Very organized. Very Knowledgeable. Good teacher. Makes class fun. A Lot of reading, but interesting... He's very helpful... highly recommended... good guy!
good guy- too much reading- tries to help students, but gives a lot of work
smart guy
Nice man but horrible professor. And his tests are impopssible. Lecture is so boring that you have to keep toothpicks in your eye lids to stay awake. Should have dropped this class a long time ago
BORING! hard material, he seems more into the idea of completing the entire text then to if we understand the topics, not reccommended, his tests are impossible.

I'm sorry but you people are crazy. This guy is an awesome professor.
We are not wrong HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR HERE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE JOB. SHOULD ONLY BE A FILL-IN.
horrible
i enjoyed this class very much
Just a quick note- half the class dropped after the midterm- that is how hard it was- dont take him
WORST PROFESSOR AND THE HARDEST...SHOULD BE FIRED..TOTALLY A WASTE OF MY TIME..HARD TESTS..NO CONSIDERATION FOR HIS STUDENTS AND THIER OPINIONS
He gives out the notesd but his tests are immpossible...he needs to stop worrying about the chapter and worry about people understanding the information...
Very hard, needs to understand this is not the only class we are taking, very unclear and very unhelpful
decent professor. boring. repetitive.
ITS AN ALRIGHT PROFESSOR.... JUST BE PREPARED TO READ AND TO TAKE 100 QUESTIONS MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST...
I think Professor Heinze is a great professor. He is more than willing to help you if you ask, always returns e-mails and phone calls, his tests in this class are more than fair, no surprises...he gave us plenty of help and two extended deadlines for our

He is a great person & a great professor. He is very smart and interesting and very fair.if u didn't like his class it's probably b/c u r lazy.there should be more professors like him.
I took him as a first year professor and his tests were impossible. I worked very hard in the class and still didnt get an A, many students had to drop because of failing grades at midterm time....i dont strongly reccommend
Not so easy, but very fair.
He is one of the best proff. ever. He is very helpful and is always there to explain something. If you think that he is hard then maybe you should reconsider going to college. He was a wonderful prof. and really takes an interest in his students.
learning cog, and teaching as well as multicultural psych. he's such a cool professor. he makes a huge effort to know everyone. tests are a little hard but if you study you'll do fine. take him!
Excellent professor. Cares about your learning. Little bit of work, but worth it.
Heinze is easily one of Ramapo's best professors! He always keeps class interesting & his lectures are informative& fun! He's incredibly helpful & understanding, everyone should take him.U have to be incredibly lazy to do bad in his class.I can't rave enough
Everyone should take him.If ur looking to do no work & get an A take Rappaport, but if u want intellectual stimulation take him.Very fair,u get what u give. He's always wiiling to help students out, understands student stress& will even move deadlines 2 help
he is a very good teacher and an iteresting person. he is pretty connected with what students are going thru. he gives a lot of work but u will want to go to class and u wont realize how much work uve done till the end. should take him at least once.
He is really interesting to have as a professor. He really knows what he is talking about, and he helps you whenever you need it. I recommend him to anyone who has to take a psych class!
i had him for both learning, cognition, and teaching as well as multicultural psych. his class is very stimulating and he makes it a lot of fun. he's also really easy-going. one complaint-hard grader. but i reccomend him.
Ramapo colleges best professor!
He is a great teacher and super hot!!!! He is not an easy A but well worth the effort
He's cool. Had him for multicultural psych and I liked it. You HAVE to do the readings if you wanna do well on his paper. Gave us midterm/final questions in advice but they were all essays. Very passionate. I recommend him.
As nice a guy as you'll find at Ramapo. Very flexible attendence policy (attendance is optional) but you need to go to class if you want to do well. Gives out helpful notes and can be hilarious though he (self admittedly) tries a bit too hard to be funny sometimes-but usually he's just funny. Great!
Easy grader. Take him if you want to learn some imprtant stuff and need a good grade.
The nicest professor I have had at Ramapo. Tries to lighten up the class by telling jokes about his kids. One group project and one 10 page paper due. The rest of the assignments are reading! I would def. take him again!
Beware: class topic is very boring. Not his fault, he tries to make it somewhat better. Gives out powerpoints for everything. 10 page paper and group project - in which he gives each group an A. If I didn't have to take this class I wouldn't have... rather boring, but he is pretty funny.
I really liked the class. I learned a lot. 2 papers, 2 books to read, 1 group presentation. Work load wasn't bad. Interesting videos. He is always willing to help, if needed. His interest in the subject really shows. Great pfof. Highly recommended.
Prof. Heinze is by far the best teacher that Ramapo has to offer. He makes class fun & educational! I had him for 3 classes, and if I could, I would take him for 3 more. Also, he's really helpful & understanding so if you have trouble with the material, he'll try to make sure you do well. Take him
Such a nice guy, always helpful, cares about his students, doesn't get mad if you don't agree with his views. Helps as much as he can. Makes class interesting.Always respondes to e-mails right away.Cares about what students think. Definitly take him if you can.
Every rater here is clearly a female because he clearly favors them. It is HIS fault for picking a very technical old book to teach a basic multicultural psychology class. He is a nice guy but lacks the knowledge to teach the subject. His lectures DON'T help at all for his midterm and final essays.
He's a really nice guy and tries to help the best he can. His lectures don't really correspond with the tests he gives. He gives 2 essays which aren't too bad.
I'm male - and not gay - Great class! Chicks dig him.
awesome guy, so cute and funny, and really tries to help the students. curves grades, and is understanding. absolutely loved him even if the subject was boring on the whole. so cute!!
This class could not have been more boring. Good prof--tried to make it better. Means well, tries to tell jokes to lighten up the mood. Generally easy.
Just a word of advice. If you are taking this class for an elective and you are not a psych major/minor do not take the class. He is really nice, trys his best to keep class interested, and he is helpful. But the tests are hard - especially if you have nothing to do with psych.
Can be boring at times. May want to pick someone else.
Loved him and the class. 2 papers, 2 tests. I've taken him for two classes (this one and Psychopathy). Both of his classes were good. He is more than willing to help if you have any trouble. Good class. As long as you put effort into the class, you'll do well. Study for the 2 tests well!!
advanced topics: psychopathy, and ethical and legal issues in psychology. he can discuss things with ease. really just an amazing teacher. seems like just a friend working with you.
One of the best at ramapo. class is interesting and work isnt too bad. 4 test, no papers or presentaions
i have had him for a few classes now, and he's a great professor. he's a tough grader though, so beware. nice guy and there for office hours or e-mails if you need any help. your grade in this class is based on 4 tests. DOES NOT grade on participation, which sucks if you speak up a lot. but good if you're too shy, tired, lazy, etc to talk
loved the class. i thought it was very interesting. he graded fairly, and the class was fairly easy. it did take actually doing the reading and studying for the exams to get decent grades. 2 of the exams were takehome and were graded harsher than the other 2, but they still seemed fair.
Great professor and great guy all around. Very approachable, available outside of class for questions, and gives ample opportunities to show what you're made of.
great professor lots of movies and only two papers and a group project. works with you and makes it feel like a chat session more then a really long boring lecture made it worth the two and a half hours every wednesday
Good class...good teacher. Knows what he's talking about and presents it well. Gives notes on a power point, and gives packets of the notes. One big paper and three tests. Tests are multiple choice and short answer...no tricky questions. Loves what he teaches. Funny and loves to talk about his kids too. Overall great class and I'd recommend it!
awesome preofessor. makes the class really interesting. no attendance policy but makes you want to come. such a nice guy and he really knows what hes talking about. always there to help you. a really fair grader and tests only on what he teaches. Def take him!
great great great. and pretty easy if u study a little bit.
Hands down, best professor on the planet! His system of grading cant be any more fair and even though he doesn't take attendance you wont wanna miss class. Make's the shyest person want to participate. I recommend him most for L,C&T because he has superb teaching techniques that many future teachers should use as well. Heinz is the man!
He is very stuck on himself and very unhelpful to students. He talks down to the females in the class and is always preoccupied with himself.
Such a great professor. Really WANTS you to do well. Lets you know straightforward whats on the test. Prints out all the powerpoints... not much reading. One of the best classes I've taken yet
had him for LCT, good teacher but the class was so boring..tests were ok and there was 1 paper i believe. Then i took psychopathy with heinze...what a mistake! this class is pointless. watch movies all the time and talk about aimless stuff which makes him sound like there is a point to his stories. 2 papers and a presentation. one paper is impossib
Had to take this class to fill a psy category but loved it! It was mostly in depth discussions which were very enlightening and much better than boring lectures. I learned loads about different cultures and would def recommend taking him if you can- he is very fair, patient and runs a great class. Got an A & walked away with a new mindset
Psychopathy!!! Warning! Warning! Do not take this class! Paper impossible! He will offer help but don't "Mask" personality. Stay away from this class at all cost!!
Dr. Heinze is willing to help students if you ask him. The movies are enjoyable and there is more than enough time to work on the 2 papers and the easy presentation. He proofread my research paper and worked with me until I got an A. very good prof, definitely reccomend
This was not an easy class, you have to work hard to do well- but Professor Heinze is wonderful and is always willing to help his students in whatever ways he can. There were three papers which were difficult, and one in-class exam which was fairly easy. Do the readings & attend class, they will significantly help your grade.
STAY AWAY!!!
psychopathology is hard dont take hiim for this
Great guy, funny teaching style, he talks a lot about things that don't really have to do with the subject. You need to read for his classes, a lot!
He is soo nice and so helpful. and he answers every email right away. Most of his tests are take home. His class is so much fun. I actually even looked forward to going to it. Hes one of the greatest teachers. He makes class interesting
amazing teacher. hes so much fun and he is so nice. i am actually going to miss him next semester
I love Prof. Heinze! He is so goofy but really knows his stuff. He always questions you so you find the answers to your questions yourself. Attendence is optional but you'll want to go. Pretty easy to get a B but hard to get an A.
Actually he was really easy for psychopathy..its my easiest class.... he always made it interesting and we watched many movies about psychopaths. He has a really fun personality.. There are no tests, just 2 papers and an oral report (can use power point)
I've taken him for a couple classes. i'd take him for every single class if i could. His class is soo much fun. I never mind going. and the time flies by.
multicultural psych. this man is kinda all over the place. his schedule is very flexible. if you can discuss, take this guy. his pprs aren't hard and he real nice guy.
He's an outstanding guy and professor. I didn't always agree with him but he fields dissent like someone who truly knows their subject. He won't give you anything but it makes success under him worth that much more.
I took him for psychopathy and it turned out to be fairly easy. It was nice that attendance wasn't mandatory and we watched videos pretty much the whole semester and did write ups on them. Other than that 2 papers and 1 presentation so take if your looking for an easy class
took him for psychopathy. all we did is watch movies and write reaction papers. grades included one general paper on psychopathy, one power point presentation on a famous psychopath, and one paper comparing the two textbooks. easy class, easy A if you do the work
Multicultural psych. Class is really interesting if you do the readings, and pay attention. He says attendance isn't mandatory but he takes it anyway (not sure why). Not too many assignments besides the readings and he is a pretty reasonable grader. Definitely recommend his class!
had him for multicultural psyc, this has been the best and most useful class i've taken at ramapo so far, i loved going to class! to do well make sure you follow the directions for the papers, go to class and take notes, and read about what he talks about in class in the textbook. i would def take him again if i could, highly recommended!!!!!!!
Hard grader, 2 essays, 1 presentation, 20 page research paper 2 week of school. Many movie character analysis... 3 books, long and challenging class, It is interesting, but it is very challenging
I would recommend but not for people who tend to have life difficulties. He was not very understanding for me when I had some family and medical issues. He is a nice guy, hard grader. Good professor, but only if you are on his good side.
somewhat east but poor coverage of material too abstract and obsessed with Carl Jung
TOok psychopathy, he is very interesting, class is interesting, but he is a very hard grader on papers. There was 3 papers, one 20 min presentation, and 5 reflections on movies.
Amazing class. Learned so much about myself and others through readings/videos. Do yourself a favor and take this professor, he might be a hard grader but what you take away from the class is more than what a grade is worth. If you do poorly in this class you need to really reevaluate what you're doing... he goes over his tests before the exam.
Worse teacher. I don't like his comments and he's very unethical. Worse experience ever. Wrote 12 page papers and failed.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss too many classes you'll miss out on the movies which we HAVE to turn in reflections on! First paper is the hardest so definitely try to hand in a rough draft early to get his feedback. Other papers are very easy as well as the presentation. Read the books!! It'll make the papers easier to write
One of the hardest classes I have taken here. The tests were not easy to study for at all. Take someone else for this class.
He's sort of like your friend's goofy dad. Jokes a lot but always tries to be polite and not offend anyone. LOTS of movies. Learned a lot from this class. Very interesting topics but he tends to repeat himself on his opinions. Papers are long and he's a tough grader, definitely get his feedback before it's due.
Peter Heinze is THE MAN. He is extremely enthusiastic about Psychology and really cares about learning and student progress. Participation is not mandatory and he recognizes that not everybody needs to raise their hand to learn. Some lectures are boring but he realizes this and gives you short answer questions before the test. Glad I took his class
Heinz keeps you engaged, he's funny, if you don't understand what is going on he will completely help you. couple of tests in the semester, very manageable, I recommend reading the textbook, helps you pass easily.
In spite of the course work he is a great teacher and his lectures usually stay interesting. The material itself is interesting so that helps. A lot of movies in class but very beneficial to learning. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go to class you will miss important test information. The book is basically required in order to pass
Great professor, lectures are long, but not too bad. He goes over some main points from the readings so read! MC & short answers on exam can be tricky. 3 exams and a final. one 7-10 page paper. Will give points if you have a good argument on a question you got wrong on a test. Overall, good teacher for psych. TOP class was interesting. Funny too!
Love Heinze. He's so funny and sweet. We had two 7-10 pg papers and two exams which he is fair about. One of my favorite classes. If you read you'll be fine. I recommend taking him if you're a psych major
To be fair to him, very enthusiastic about material. Also attendance is not mandatory. However it would be nice if he were a little more understanding of how family and personal issues can hinder academic performance. He does care about the students academic performance though. Also READ or you won't pass.
I wasn't a fan of Heinze. He's incredibly biased about Theories of Personality, and it makes it hard to care about the class. You have to say what he wants to hear and how he wants to hear it on test. The textbook is really boring and has way too much information, so it took forever to get through the chapters. He's nice, but iffy as a teacher.
If you read (or even just skim so you know the important terms), it will make a world of difference. He's clear about what he wants, caring, and honestly pretty funny. He wants you to do well, but you have to meet him halfway. Super understanding and a really nice guy. I would definitely recommend him.
This professor doesn't care or listen to his students. Doesn't give extra time for OSS & college doesn't reprimand him for this.
Theories of Personality was your typical 300-level psych course; challenging, but manageable. Dr. Heinze is very passionate about his work as a clinical psychologist-- I particularly liked how he incorporated his work into the classroom. His exams are hard: 4 difficult short essay questions and about 30-40 multiple choice. Read the book.
His class was really challenging but i thought it was great. He's a great professor and knows what hes talking about. The exams are tough its info you need to know straight from the book so you have to really READ in depth. Hes goofy and tries to make class fun by adding in a joke here and there, oh and hes also pretty handsomeWould reccomend
I took him for theories of personality. That class was really interesting and I learned alot. I highly recommend it. I dont understand why there are bad reviews about him. Yes, he can be challenging, but he wants you to learn. He really is a great professor. Also, he throws alot of information at you and goes fast, so use a laptop to take notes.
Heinze is a great professor. He does a good job of explaining the concepts and his lectures were enjoyable, even though he often makes you watch videos. However, only two papers and two exams decide your grade and he is a very tough grader. It is difficult to get an A in this class but I learned a lot.
Heinze is great, he's engaging and is super knowledgeable. My issue is really the content of this course, he often says something like "it's not freshman material" and it really isn't. Kind of hard to wrap your head around. You have to do 5 questions on maybe a 40 page reading each week and you'll have 10 from the first page alone.
Prof. Heinze is an amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and their understanding of the course material. The material can be confusing but he is so good at explaining it, and will repeat himself often.
He is an amazing professor who clearly cares about his students. The only "downfall" is he has some unconventional views on psychology. Other then that, he is really good at listening to his students and is super fair with grading and stuff like that.
Had for FYS. Has weekly readings out of a book that is hard to understand. He knows it's confusing so during his lectures he answers the most frequently asked questions. Class feels very long but is not too bad but not great. Not too hard of a grader.
Professor Heinze is an amazing professor and I find myself actually looking forward to his online lectures. He has a great sense of humor, is straight forward in terms of what you need to study and know for exams, and does not assign a lot of homework whatsoever. He's made online schooling a bit more enjoyable for me. Would definitely recommend!
I enjoyed Prof Heinze a lot that I actually started looking forward to his classes. I took him for Multipsych and there are readings but it's not extremely difficult. He goes over chapters in class and reviews any materials that are going to be on exams. Overall, I really liked him and I'd take him again.
Great professor, do the work and you'll pass. there's weekly homework assignments for a book that is difficult to understand, but he goes through the reading during lectures and makes it easier to understand. I wasn't interested in the topic of the course when I registered, but I enjoyed it, because Professor made it enjoyable and easy to understan
Took him for Ethics in Psych, he is a funny guy and a nice professor. He doesn't grade that harsh but he doesn't give specific feedback either which it makes it difficult to know how to write a better paper. I hadn't taken a psych course prior so that took away from my understanding of topics. Answers all questions and lectures are interesting.
Professor Heinze was really nice and funny, and he doesn't require you to speak at all except for one presentation, which he said he didn't want to assign but it was mandatory. The reading material was pretty difficult, but he spent the whole class going over it for us. The only assignments were essays. Overall, he's a really solid professor.
He is a funny guy and I enjoyed his class and he's a great outside of class. I found his exams extremely difficult and when we would ask about the essay questions his response would be its in the textbook. He didn't really give you opportunities to raise your grade it was just based on 4 exams and a paper all worth 20%. Great funny guy though.
Really cool guy. He was funny and lectures were very engaging! However, the tests were incredibly tough, and based almost entirely off of material not covered in lecture. I enjoyed my time in the class, however I feel that if it was handled better I could have got a lot more out of it.
Really good at making you understand a lot of things the course covers. The book he covers is very confusing at first but once you get the hang of the weekly assignments you'll understand more about it. Thought it was going to be a tough class but it actually made me interested. Speaks a lot about symbolic things and grades tough on essays
A really nice guy, super passionate about the subjects he teaches. I found his class interesting, but very slow paced... we would go over practically the same thing each week. There was a lot of reading + notes that needed to be submitted on the reading- luckily he graded for completion. A little tough when it comes to essays, gives little feedback
He is really passionate about the topic but that can hurt him sometimes because he repeats the same things each week. He has reviews before each test but they are mostly him lecturing about the most recent chapter and there is not much actual review. Sometimes can be condescending in my opinion by telling people to "just study" or "review better"
Personally, he's not that bad a guy, but the way he taught the class was infuriating. Most classes were dedicated to debates, which is expected from Ethics in Psych. But the way he judged these debates was solely on regurgitation of points made for each side in the books. If it's not in the book, too bad. Exams were also graded on this criteria.
Bad. This professor is awful. In the time I have been in his class he has taught me nothing Ive learned more from the book than the professor. He talk so much and gets mad when you're on your phone. So much reading from the books but never goes over and explains it. The book is very complicated btw. Just don't take his class trust me don't take.
Heinze comes off as pretentious. Says participation is voluntary, but revolves the class around discussions. Also inserts his own opinion into debates which just seems unprofessional. The class is essentially taught with the assumption that everyone is a psych major. Avoid him if you can, especially if you are not a psych major!
Heinze is a nice and interesting guy, but it's very obvious he comes to class every day with no idea what he's going to talk about. He talks in circles about whatever he feels like, and it's hard to take the theoretical concepts he discusses seriously because of this. He also never grades anything in Canvas until the end of the semester.
The lectures were very insightful and covered the topic of collective unconsciousness and its psychological influence on us. The class was easy with only a few papers, and the grading was fair.
I had Heinze last year and let me tell you- he's the worst professor I've ever had. He gives 3 exams and only tells us to "read the textbook." No context whatsoever on what to study. There is nothing besides a paper to "balance" our grades, and he's a very rough grader on everything. He's a nice guy, but a bad professor. Avoid him if you can.
He claims participation is not necessary, yet will passive aggressively call you out for using a computer, as well as not post the grades on Canvas until the very end of the Sem. I admit it is my fault for using a PC, but I am not buying a notebook for a class that goes under a gen ed and lacks a lesson structure for lectures. Extremely sensitive.
The lectures cover interesting topics, but the pacing can be slow at times. The readings are dense, but the professor explains them well. Unstuck study and regular study sessions helped me grasp the material. Overall, a manageable class.
Heinze was one of the worst professors I have ever had. He clearly comes to class everyday not knowing at all what he is going to talk about. Lectures are based off of student's personal questions/lives which is extremely uncomfortable for everyone to sit through. Each class he talks in complete circles and never gets his point across.
He's a nice guy and I did enjoy some lectures; however, other lectures felt inappropriate. During one class he went on a random rant about homosexual pornography which had nothing to do with the topic that was being covered. He talks about whatever comes to mind with no clear direction of the class. He also claims everyone plagiarizes so watch out.
The FYS seminar by Prof. Heinze covers heavy topics like the unconscious mind from a Jungian perspective. For those without prior knowledge or interest, it can be confusing and less enjoyable. The professor assigns many papers, but if you're academically disciplined, it shouldn't be a problem.
Class was fairly simple with 4 exams and 1 paper. I took him again despite a bad experience in FYS, because it fit my schedule but he changed my view of him as he seems to enjoy some courses more than others, which is reflected in his more enthusiastic and less harsh teaching. he's a great guy and a good professor when you're in the right class.
