He is a good teacher. With the NY accent and he has a real passion for teaching. Overall a great teacher. If you read and listen you should do well..
Good teacher, very helpful. Lectures are long.
Very helpful. Seemed to be quite the philospher himself. Lectures seem long, but usually go by fast if you participate. Requires a five minute presentation (in your seat) about the reading. Volunteer for some of the earlier reading beacause they get h
bad teacher, grades the test very hard, wants the answer his way. if you are good in english and can remember to write whole paragraph the way he wants then you would do ok, i think. i droped his class
He is a great guy. He is very smart and answers all questions in detail. I have never asked him a question that he didn't know. The work load is very fair, though I found having to go to the Art Institute a nuisance due to my busy schedule. All in all, this class was very interesting, No regrets.
real good guy i think the person that made the first comment is probably a stoner blamin his stupidity on the teacher. this guy is real nice and explains everything real well and grades the test easy..
I think he's a tad obsessive compulsive...
Eventhough the subject itself is kinda boring, he's a good teacher, helps a lot, just make sure you don't miss anything he says in class, take good notes, and concentrate that for your exams, and papers, exams are not that bad, straight forward, you'll make an A if you listen, and do the readings, lectures kinda boring, but take notes, nice teacher.
Class goes by really slow because the material is kind of boring but he is always very clear and helpful. A nice guy and he teaches well.
Lacking flexibility regarding meeting students after/before class, but offers make-ups in lieu of life.
He loves to teach and it shows. Always enthusiastic. Class does drag a little sometimes but he has very fair expectations. Papers are challenging but he grades fairly. Quizzes are not difficult at all if you come to class and listen to what he says. Overall very nice teacher and an easy grade just as long as you do the work.
Good, easy class. Just come, listen, and read. Not a big deal. Even if you space out in class, you will do fine on his quizzes bc he goes over the material multiple times. Essays are long, but manageable....good, easy grader. Easy A.
His Intro class is an easy A. Just pay attention to what he says and take some notes. Lectures are long, but he makes it interesting. He assigns 3 papers, and thats the only time when you'll need to read the text yourself. This class will probably make you interested in philosophy too.
frm NY so he speaks fast- keep up. Very clear & his stories (esp. the philosophic ones) r very interesting & enjoyable 2 hear. very fair. da way class is structured it feels as though u are takin a real college class, which is nice b/c u know wat 2 expect frm day 1: he tells u. he gives study guides b4 da quizzes:helps cause most ?s are on da quiz.
He is a good teacher and likes philosophy. I wrote 3 5-page papers in this class. He is always willing to answer questions and explain anything students don't understand.
Easy class if u come and take good notes. Show that u care and he'll pract. give u an "A" or at least a "B." Very nice and polite man.
One of the best teachers in Oakton. He makes his classes fun and interesting. You can tell that he loves his job and that's what makes him excellent teacher.
The best teacher in OCC, he knows his stuff very well. Crystal clear on his lectures. I absolutely loved his class.
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Mr.Hudis is an incredibly intelligent, engaging, and clear thinking person-- his grasp of the material will often astonish you. More importantly though he has a genuine love for the subject of philosophy, and that is something that can't be faked. I only wish I had a teacher like him sooner in my life.
GREAT TEACHER, if you have to take humanities or philosophy, take this teacher, he knows and understands a vast amount of knowledge. I had a great time in his class.
Awesome teacher. Study the worksheets.
Probably the best philosophy professor thatyou can find. The key to getting a solid A is to not miss a single lecture and take extremely detailed notes withing the lectures. If you have on questions on the study guides do not hesitate to email him. He will be more than happy to help. Use the tests to help guide you on 5 page papers.
Great teacher. Loved his class. He's not the easiest teacher in the world but he absolutely knows his stuff and passes knowledge on very well. I highly recommend taking a class with him, even if you might not be interested in the subject.
Such an amazing teacher! Before I took this class I had no interest in the subject at all and now I am sooooo interested! Has a very unique way of teaching but it always kept me focused! I did not want to miss one class and I usually hate school!
Pretty good teacher, talks really fast so its sometimes hard to take notes. Gives exact questions that will be on the tests before hand.
great professor!
Great teacher, IF you need to take humanities take him, it was the best, Only two tests and 3 esseys, just rewrite a summery on what was discused in class to fluff up the esseys, i got B pluses on all my esseys.Take notes and show up to class, ask questions in class.Always there to help, loves what he is teaching.I would take him again if i could.
great professor. i love his class! you learn so much from him and he is so intelligent and well rounded. if u need to BUY BOOKS for his class for cheap email me [email protected]
Very good teacher. 4 semi easy quizes. Provides study guides for the quizes. 3 5 page papers that arent too difficult.
What a great, talented, intellectual teacher! Passionate about what he teaches and presents tough topics in a very approachable, easy to understand form. Very engaging and fun, appreciates hard work and participation. In a short winterim course I learned so much!!!
Great teacher, he knows his stuff. And explains a lot of history in American, Africa and so on. You can get an A or B. He is not a hard grader at all. Test are pretty easy he gives you a review and most of the questions on exams are on the test. You will have 3 papers-which are easy. N 1 final paper which you can pick ur topic.Take him he is great
This is the best teacher ever!!!! and the smartest!!!
Wonderful Teacher! His Tests are very fair and hands out study guides, very helpful!
Extremely good teacher. Funny. Very passionate about the subjects he teaches. He gave me a new found appreciation for art and culture. His classes are very interesting. Tests are very easy if you read the assigned readings (2-3 pages every class). Three very simple papers (5 page min.) and no presentations or speeches. Take his courses!
I took him in the spring 2010. He is a helpful and good teacher. However, his class is hard. You really have to do stuff. There are 4 (5 pages) papers including final. There is a final project ( it is worth of lots of point) and he ask you to go to the Chicago art institute and you have to go because he asks you to attech the ticket in the project. On top of that there are 4 tests. He gives you the review sheet and he asks 75 to 80 % questions from the review. And s
Good teacher. You have to do stuff in his class as the student below described. He is very fair to all students and his class is fun :) Take him!
Took his class for about 2 weeks and decided to drop. His class was very boring as well as his topics within the subject. Mostly all he did was talk the whole time :/
I never read any of the material and still passed with an easy A. Just make sure you do the study guide that he passes out and understand the concepts that he discusses in class. He really tries to explain everything and takes his time to make sure you understand it. Overall a really enjoyable class.
Mr. Hudis is the man. I am getting an A in his class- the tests are short answer based so you dont have to memorize a ton for multiple choice tests. Papers are easy. Definitely take this class!
Hudis is the man! Very clear and precise in his explanations of the material and as to what he is looking for. I had a total of two 5 page papers this semester in which I received an A on. He provides a study guide with all of the answers on the test so it is hard not to get an A even though they are short answer problems. Take Hudis!
A lot is learned through class discussion.
AWESOME TEACHER. IM TAKING ANOTHER ONE HIS CLASSES NEXT SEMESTER. HE IS COOL
This professor is AMAZING!! He is very helpful and his exams are not hard at all. As long as you go to lecture and take notes then you are all set. He gives you a study guie two weeks early so you have more than enough time to prepare. The study guide pretty much is the exam. Grade is composed of attendance, 2 papers, 3 tests:)
You NEED to attend class, the 2 tests are based on lect. & interpretations of primary sources. Highly knowledgeable, has his doctorate, is published, and also teaches at Loyola Univ. Grade is based on 2 tests, 2 5-6 pg papers, attendance, and final. Final = in-class essay, but he gives you the topics beforehand. He's amazing & you'll learn a lot.
GREAT teacher! he is very knowledgeable and fair. Just make sure to attend class, and take notes ( his tests are his lectures )
Great teacher if you have any questions or don't understand something he will go out of his way to help you. If you come to class all the time and do all the readings then the class will be very easy, 2 papers 3 test ( written). Class is great because its an open discussion where everyone can get an idea of what the topic is about and etc.
Dr. Hudis is the man. He is the best professor ever. I took him for Humanities and Philosophy. I didn't have him for a summer course, but I needed help and he was there, helping me with my other course. He is a dedicated teacher, and he loves helping his students. He is the greatest, but you got to go to class
I took Western Culture and the Arts with him and he was a great teacher! Topics are explained well and he is a very fair grader. Most questions on the test are from the study guide but look over maps and dates. Attendance is mandatory, but classes are interesting and worth going to! If you want an easy A, take him!
Great professor. Responds quickly to emails. Very knowledgeable and knows the subject very well. Take notes during lectures so you can explain yourself well in the 2 5-page papers and study the notes for tests and you'll get an A. Also you must go to every class.
if you're looking for a blow off class, this isn't your guy. However, If you're a slacker (like me) and looking for a teacher to inspire you to go to class and that actually knows what hes talking about take this class. It's not as hard as it seems, he grades you based on how well you understand the subject, rather than your writing level.
Best professor I have ever had! A brilliant and interesting person. He really, really knows his stuff. The class is not easy, but not overly hard. Take this class!
I am taking his HUM 120 class right now, man he is intelligent af but his intelligence makes his class too damn hard, 4 TESTS, 3 5 PAGE HARD MF papers kills u if your are taking other classes too. TO much of work, its useless, if u arent going to be a philosopher, i had typed my papers staying up overnight which were EXHAUSTING. I'M BEING HONEST
Great teacher, always enjoys your questions or arguments and is very knowledgable on what he is teaching
GREAT teacher. Very fair but you NEED to keep up with the reading and there is A LOT, which most readings are hard. 2 5page pprs that are not easy but he grades fairly! The study guides are about 32 ?s but tests have only about 12 with 4-5 LONG essay questions-if you read should be easy. NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS! WORK FOR YOUR GRADE but a great teacher
Sharp guy but can get a bit preachy and less informative which led me to tune him out a lot of the time.
The class is ok. Kinda slow and he prefers that people think like him. So agree with all he says and you are fine. Would not take again.
His class focus is on immigration. Lots of reading! Knowledgeable instructor. Fair grader. Total of 4 exams, but he does provide a study guide, 2 5 page papers, and 4 worksheets. Class attendance is a must. Lecture and discussion based, 1 power point, and a few movies. Overall the class is not bad and I would recommend the teacher.
The class is pretty boring, and like the other reviewer said Hudis preaches a lot. He is not open to what students think - it is his way or the highway. Class seems more like a high school level class. Would recommend taking a different section and prof.
Has his preference in students. He is strict with grammar. Reading is mandatory. Ive heard from prior students that you don't have to, yes you do. when he finds out the class hasn't read he puts it in the test. Essays are 5-6 pages. Ask him for help and ask how he wants it. Exams have short answers and long responses that must be known.
Great instructor! Absolutely fair and very helpful.
Did not like this class. Tons more work that other reviews said. Avoid at all cost.
GOOD TEACHER. HOWEVER, HE REQUIRES YOU TO FREQUENTLY ATTEND CLASS AND PARTICIPATE TO RECIEVE AN A. I TOOK HUDIS FOR 2 CLASSES. ONE I RECIEVED AN A IN- THE OTHER A B. IN HIS 200 AND UP CLASSES HE'S MUCH MORE THOROUGH WITH YOUR IN DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF PHL. CONCEPTS AND REQUIRES YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE PHILSOPHERS CONCEPTS TO A PERFECT T.
Lectures are pretty boring, you must attend class if you want to do well
Phenomenal teacher. Definitely recommend to anyone!
Hudis is always willing to help students. However, his lectures are very long! Make sure you take a lot of notes in class! Textbook is not necessary to understanding the material, it's better explained during lectures. On the plus side, he offers unlimited extra credit, which you will probably need. Exams are short answers and papers are tough.
Not many homework assignments. You have to read a lot and discuss it in class. Tests are pretty easy if you actually understand what goes on in class, If not you're screwed. Just take very good notes and you should be fine for the tests and essays. Easy A for those who take good notes and pay attention
Hudis is a great man!! He's funny, but be prepared to get the full hour and fifteen. he lectures the whole time. take good notes! the study guides are the test. you better love reading. It's easy to pass, you have to put in the effort.
Absolutely loved taking Dr. Hudis class. Takes time to turn his humanities courses into an enjoyable semester. Always there for help, takes student's perspectives into consideration when discussing topics in class. Reading is important, somewhere between 5 worksheets, 3 papers, and 3 tests. No cumulative final. Love his New York accent!
Honestly the best professor I have ever had in college. I enjoyed his style of teaching so much I ended up taking a second class with him. There is a lot of reading and writing involved in this class but it is more than manageable. This man is extremely passionate about what he teaches and is more than knowledgeable in the subject. TAKE HIM.
One of the best courses I have taken. He forces you to think. As long as you do all of your assigned reading ( and its ALOT) you would be fine. 2 papers and 4 test. He explains everything and gives study guides. The questions from the test usually come from the study guides with one or two random questions to make sure you did your reading.
Hardest class I ever took. His tests are impossible and aren't even based on the assignments. Highest grade in the class was a B, and most students got C's.
He is one of the best teachers ever. He makes you want to think and he is not boring at all. He has such a passion for what he teaches. I would retake his class again.
This guy was unbelievably difficult. Four exams and three papers, and his standards for grading were ridiculous. And he didn't even answer emails. Half the class got C's. Don't bother taking him unless you want a low grade.
Dr. Hudis is an amazing professor. He is funny and makes class worth going to. Take notes and read the assigned texts. Ask questions because the material can be confusing. Tests are short answer but are not too difficult. Would reccommend anyone to take his class. One of my favorite professors by far!
Professor Hudis is a great, helpful professor. I took Philosophy 106 Ethics class; he 4 writing exams, and 3 paper assignments, 5 short reading assignments, and 1 Final writing exam. Some students say his exams are hard, but if you take notes every lecture and remember most materials he covered in class, you will get an easy A!
I went to every class and spoke frequently, and he gave me a C in participation... I got a B but I'm still angry about that
great professor. take good notes or better yet record his lectures. spend at least a couple days to write two 7 page papers and do the assignments. you'll get an A plus he may change the way you see the world.
He's a great professor and I would definitely take him again! I had a 3hr ethics class with him and it was all group discussion. Time goes by fast if you participate and he makes it easy to participate and voice your opinion. Really funny guy who's very passionate about philosophy. Do the study guide and skim over the readings and you'll pass.
There is literally a BILLION extra credit opportunities that it's impossible not to get an A! It's unlimited! I actually really enjoyed his lectures because he was so good at grabbing people's attention! Exams are all written BUT the questions are STRAIGHT OUT OF THE STUDY GUIDE! There's essays but they are easy if you pay attention & take notes!
Very good professor , really passionate about teaching. Get ready to read a lot . He has 5 worksheets based on reading from the readers book. Give study guides before tests. Test questions are mostly straight from the study guide. Three 5-6 page papers . Gives two options for the essays. Make sure you participate in class .
One of the best professors I have ever had, better than all of my professors in undergrad at a Big Ten university. He is brilliant and truly loves teaching. Take his courses if you want to actually learn something and better yourself.
peter hudis is the best philiosophy professor at oakton---as a matter of fac he is one of the very best teachers i have ever had. His contemporary phillosophy class comes in second place.
He's a great professor would definitely take his class again he's understanding and cares to explain the material to his students.
I have taken his class about 5 times because he makes you think outside the box and motivates you as a student to be successful. Professor Hudis is a very unique, understanding, and optimistic professor that will make a big difference in your education. He tells stories, and helps you with whatever you are struggling with. I recommend him big time!
Lots of reading and papers but the knowledge you gain is great. Hudis is funny, smart, and entertaining. I took his class at 8:00am and I was wide awake because of how awesome he is. There are 4 or 3 papers and 3 tests which are the exact same as the study guild. Great prof.
Dr. Hudis is a very knowledgeable professor and his classes are quite entertaining. He is very understanding and willing to lend a hand when you need it. I have taken two of his courses, and it is very apparent that he really enjoys teaching. Most of what you learn in his classes are things that you will be able to carry with you for life!
Very good teacher, He's a guy who's willing to work with you and give you an extension on a paper if needed.
Professor Hudis's class is 100% manageable if you show up to class. I did not read any of the assigned materials, but by listening to his lectures and taking notes of specific passages, I got an A. He is very knowledgeable and willing to help if you need help.
Professor Hudis is willing to help you out if you put in an effort. Easy class but you have to listen to his lectures and take notes.
A dedicated professor who loves what he does. His study guides are the exact same thing as the tests. If you read and listen to the lectures you will definitely get an A. I took his 8 am class and it was such a great way to start the day. I learned more in his class than I did in my whole life. He really makes you look at the world differently.
He's the reason why I am choosing to minor in Philosophy when I transfer. His lectures are very interesting as well as the readings in his class. Every assigned reading is very short and interesting. This class really opens your eyes and definitely recommend. Attendance is mandatory, but trust me, you wouldn't even want to miss any classes!
I took 3 classes with Dr. Hudis and should've have taken more! He really cares about the material he gives, is an amazing lecturer and loves it when you ask him questions. He requires you to really work for your grade but is fair. His exams aren't hard if you really study, expect quizzes on a regular basis. Definitely would recommend.
Prof. Hudis is THE BEST (!!!) professor in my entire higher education life. I've taken two classes with him and would have taken more if I didn't transfer out. He made me fall in love with heavy philosophy texts and philosophical concepts; provides thorough feedback on papers and guidance on approaching texts; encourages discussion and questions.
Most arrogant and cocky professor I've ever had. Grades based on his opinion, not constructive feedback- very offensive and demeaning, such as "dead wrong, did you even read the text?", etc. I would never take him again, calls students out in class. States there is no "right answer" but then proceeds to tell you you're wrong- that kind of person.
Taken three of his courses over the years, and he has been my all time favorite professor! He really instills a joy for knowledge and makes you question things you've never thought of. I honestly think his class molded me into who I am today. If you like casual discussion based courses, this is a great one to take. If you do the work you'll pass!
Mixes divisive, irrelevant, and controversial personal opinions into lectures and argues with those who disagree. Condescending and will insult your work. Once asked for my opinion on a worksheet and docked me points because he disagreed. Final exam was on something covered in class 2 days before the final was due. Concurrent difficult assignments.
Prof. Hudis is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've had. He is really passionate about humanities, social justice, & philosophy. Anytime I needed help he offered insightful advice. You have to read & work for your grade, & at times it was very hard, but it was so rewarding in the end. Really pay attention to his critiques & use it!
I took his 8am class, which might be why it was extremely hard for me. The texts we read are very complex and the majority of class is Hudis analyzing and explaining it through his own eyes, and it leaves little time for discussion. He is a very cool guy though and is always willing to help. He gives very good feedback and encouragement also.
Meet Professor Hudis outside of class and he WILL help you understand the material. I definitely wish I did that earlier but I am glad I did eventually. Intro to Philosophy was not easy but boy am I glad to have him as my professor. I highly recommend to take him, but beware, his grading is quite hard!
The course readings are dense, but take the time to engage with it and Peter is a very rewarding professor to take. Spend the time to break down and understand the readings, and the class will be a lot easier and more rewarding too. I learned a lot from this class, and it was a great experience. Looking forward to more classes with Peter.
Took the class in Spring '21. I disagreed with a lot of the prof's social views but I thought the class was still informative and quite easy if you do the readings. He gave good feedback and answered questions. Ex cred was typically watching a lecture or movie that tended be left leaning (my opinion) so I did without it.
Gave good feedback on assignments and was prepared for lectures. Always showed up to class on time, and responded to my emails right away. Was very accessible to meet outside of class. Allowed students to show what they have learned by DIscussion Topic posts and Worksheets, not just tests.
Clear+detailed lectures; Youll understand fully, ask questions if needed. Only source allowed is the text. Answers any question, even simple definitions. Discussion-focused; few assignments except reading the interesting texts. Amazing feedback, was well prepared for the essays that were just like the assignments. Easy 2% boost from extra credit.
I took his PHL-106 class and hated it. Gave many boring lectures and also talked about politics way too much for my liking. Very tough grader. If you dont say it exactly how he would dont even bother, especially if it isnt something he agrees with. I would stay away if you want to keep ur GPA up. Also packed on LOADS of work at end of semester.
Amazing professor! Really knows what he is talking about and explains the readings in class in a way you can understand. Is there to help when you are having a hard time understanding the material. He really made me take genuine interest in philosophy.
No outside sources. Clear+detailed lectures; You'll understand fully. Encourages all questions. Nothing is unexpected. Mostly lecture/some discussion. Assignments felt valuable. Longer readings than HUM127. Helpful, detailed feedback helps prepare for the essays + 2 short answer tests. Wants you to understand, not just repeat phrases. 2% xtra crd
Peter Hudis is an amazing teacher who came straight out of the Bronx in NY. He is a very fair grader with clear criteria lined out in the syllabus and for each assignment. A very understanding person, Prof. Hudis allows for turning in of late work, opportunities for extra credit and so much more. As long as you communicate he is very understanding.
Amazing professor, as long as you do his study guides, you'll be fine. Barley any homework.
Such a nice and funny professor. He actually considers and respects all opinions. Many reading assignments, but mainly short stories from books. Mandatory attendance, where lectures crucial to test material is covered over the weeks. Overall, a great class, as long as you read and do the homework. The tests are written response, 10-20 Questions.
This is my second time taking World Religions, my first time was with a professor that seemed to hate his job. But Professor Hudis on the other hand is an amazing professor with a lot of knowledge on all religions. He lectures through out most of the class but also encourages questions and participation from students. 10/10 class experience overall
One of the best professors I've had for Philosophy; Gives great lectures and responses, allows you to turn in assignments a little later but you do have to inform him beforehand, 1 midterm and 1 final exams, in them everything is covered from the readings we do from the book, nothing from the outside sources. Taking him again next semester easy.
Best professor I've had at Oakton! The topic for this course was immigration in the U.S., which was the most interesting course I've taken. There are a lot of worthy readings and it helps when we discuss them during class. Use the study guides, keep up with the readings, and you will do good! He is a very knowledgeable and passionate professor.
Started out the semester okay, then I started reading the material which was very poorly explained in lectures and I felt like I was reading a different language. Kind of rude in the way he commented on our work, and encourages people to talk but calls people out for talking to each other for two seconds while he is lecturing.
This professor has a LOT of attitude. I've made mistakes with assignments and he has no patience towards his students. He leaves a harsh reply instead. He doesn't offer help and takes a long time replying to emails. Overall, not a good professor. I would rather have not taken this course at all.
at first I wasn't sure about taking this class, but I'm really glad I did. The professor is excellent he provides valuable feedback on assignments, highlighting areas that need improvement. If you meet with him in person, he's even more helpful, offering more detailed and constructive feedback. I recommend really studying for the test he gives out
One of the most helpful professors i've had at Oakton. actually cares for students to pass the class and gives chances to bring grade up. he overall wants everyone to do good in his class and helps students!
Prof. Hudis can be demanding, but engaging with the dense course material pays off. Attend office hours and use resources like unstuck study to excel. The discussions are rewarding if you put in the work.
I really enjoyed this class. We had two papers and two exams. If you are not interested in philosophy at all, it might be a hard class to pass. My favorite professor so far.
Prof. Hudis is by far the best teacher I have ever had. I had never been inspired to go out and learn about a school-related subject until I took his Modern and Contemporary Philosophy course. Each class was extremely informative and equally engaging, prompting you to introspect and seek knowledge elsewhere. Enjoyable course. Tons of reading though
He gives out little homework, gives very informative and useful lectures, and there is ZERO work during class besides engaging in class discussions. The only downsides are that you can't do any research outside of the textbook for study guides or assignments and the textbook itself is $100+, but this class in my opinion is worth taking.
Professor Hudis is a tough grader, but is very understanding, kind, and will work with you. I highly recommend him!
He's a cool dude. Don't be intimidated by him. Very respectful.
One of my favorite professors. Easy A if you actually try and be present during class/lectures.
He is very nice. His tests are exactly like the study guides.
Such a good professor! If you don't understand the readings he will go over it in class and you will get a better understanding by the end of it. Study guides are exactly like the exams and cares about your opinions about the readings. I recommend taking his classes!
