he puts me to sleep... but he is a good teacher if you can stay awake. He is also very helpful if you miss class because you are sick.
SUPER EASY TEACHER. As long as you read the novel and pay attention to his discussions in class you'll do fine. Quizzes and most of exam is from webct online notes, which he discusses in class.
He is a very fun teacher and a good lecturer. But I always used to sleep in his class because it was early in the morning and my low interest level. But he is an enthusiastic prof always encouraging class discussion. But make sure to listen to his lectures carefully and take good notes.
Great teacher. He is enthusiastic, interesting and a very good lecturer. I found the material very interesting, but if you don't it might be pretty boring. He encourages class discussion and really makes you think. Again, great teacher, I would strongly suggest him. PS listen in class, take decent notes, and read the book-if done, you will do great
His lectures are easy to pay attention to; at one point we discussed whether androids have free will. He gives essay-style quizzes to help one develop one's ideas, and explains in detail how to study for the tests. He is forgiving about missed classes and let one girl take the final early.
Great lecturer. He has a gift of teaching and drawing the class into discussions and participating. Read the assigned material, pay attention in class, and you will earn a good grade.
Excellent teacher, I made an A-. I might have done better had I actually read the books, but it's possible to pass this class by reading gradesaver, semi-listening in class, and reading the notes he posts on webct.
Easiest class of my semester. Professor posts notes on WebCT that have a lot of the quiz/exam answers on it. I slept through almost every class (the lectures can get quite boring), but I read the material, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Movies such as Jurassic Park and Blade Runner were fun too. Overall, I liked the class, and it was a simple A.
Ingrao is a great prof. He has a good sense of humor and is always willing to help. Attendance is mandatory and is 25% of the grade. However, the class is definitely an easy 'A'. I would recommend an Ingrao lit class to anyone, even non lit majors such as myself.
Easy class if you keep up with the reading. Also, the books were surprisingly interesting.
easy grader. interesting lectures. everything he says he puts on webct. we watched dark knight and blade runner. very thorough about dystopias. one of the easiest classes i've even taken.
I thought Dr. Ingrao at least knew what he was talking about all the time and stuck with the syllabus. You always know what to expect, extensive notes online, and he's pretty sexy if you like the bearded collegiate look.
Hard to believe that someone so dull and out-of-touch can be entrusted to teach Humanities, but he does [try to]. The man has no idea how to write on a board, never allows any opinions other than his to gain traction, puts EVERYONE to sleep during his self-contained summaries of the books we're supposed to read, but don't have to. Just read notes.
ingrao does not care about what his students have to say about the books. he assigns reading and tries to spur discussion, but if you say something that doesn't mesh well with his ideas and beliefs about the books he will shut them out. he only tests on his notes, most people don't read or come to class...but that's also b/c he is so so so boringgg
you only have to take this class because it's required, and it seems like he really takes that into account when he tries to teach. he just recites what he puts on elearning and gets off track so much with his bad jokes that only he laughs at. he amends every sentence with 'mmkay' just like the principal from South Park...try to get a diff teacher!
gahhh, so aggravating coming to this class. he'll put you to sleep within 15 minutes of every class. i stopped going to class altogether b/c he only reads what he puts on elearning. kind of/complete waste of $400 to take the class. you can tell he hasn't deviated from his lesson plan in years
My friend takes the class with a different teacher and it's really like night and day. He and his classmates LOVE their teacher. They rave about him all the time, but everyone in my class--me included, just sleeps and complains. The topic of the class is very inclusive and he makes it hard to get anything out of it.
Ingrao was a pretty good teacher. He had a slur which annoyed me, but I got over that. All notes go online, so study those. The books were pretty interesting and we even watched some movies too. One paper was written over a movie you watched. The only thing I didn't like was the TA grades everything. I felt like the teacher should grade the essays
Awsome professor. I don't know why everyone this semister rate him badly, the previous rate him as A+. Still, awsome teacher if you need a easy A+ in this class. Seriously, I spent 30minutes on Elearning note, read summary of book, and got a 100. -_- You can get around 120 if you did all the test questions correctly.
Great professor, though it helps immensely if you're even remotely interested in the topics of study. He is clear about what he expects, mild-mannered (unless disrespected), and intelligent.
Good professor. Pretty easy class. I didn't read most of the material, but attended class and got A's on everything. The movies are good that you get to watch. This class is probably the best option for this credit.
I was not looking forward to this class, but Progessor Ingrao suprised me. His lectures were interesting and you can tell he is really linstening when you talk. All of the material was relevant. The tests were easy (mostly from online notes) and he even gave us the final essay prompt before the final. The only hard part is the group project.
Super easy class, you'd be considered a failure at life if you managed to fail. Came into the class with no interest, but a lot of the books read and movies watched were actually interesting and kinda sticks with you. only con would be that the class makes you sleepy as heck though.
The only good thing about this class is the movies that we watched. I tried to stay awake for his lectures but with his monotonous voice, it's pretty dang hard unless I had 8 hours of sleep the night before. The class itself is ridiculously easy as long as you memorize the notes he puts up online and regurgitate it out on tests.
Easy class as long as you read the books and review over the notes online. Lectures are pointless and fairly boring because it's all on the notes mentioned above, but attendance is mandatory (For bonus pts). Tests are 50% notes and 50% book questions and is fill in the blank.
very easy professor he is interesting when he says random jokes but class could be boring at times. we watched blade runner and the dark knight. this class was really easy!
A cool class! He's a bit monotone but his lectures were decent. I mostly doodled... His exams are extremely easy and straight off his outlines posted online. They're quite a lot of material so you have to put in a bit of effort but nothing overloading. We watch movies too :) EASY A+
He is a really nice teacher and you can tell that he really cares about what he teaches. Pretty easy tests if you study the notes. He posts notes on eLearning, so all you need to do is study for those on the test and read the books. Not a horrible class, but you might catch yourself falling asleep at times. We got to watch movies, which was awesome
The class is pretty enjoyable and a grade boost. Tests are fair and Ingrao is really approachable and helpful. You don't necessarily have to read the books as long as you pay attention in lecture and take/read notes. Class is interesting and thought-provoking. One of my favorites at this university thus far.
EASY CLASS, i didnt read or even pay attention in class, just looked over the eLearning notes the night before and made atleast 100 on all the tests!! the class is pretty boring but if u miss less than 3 classes you get 10 pts added to ur lowest grade.. easy A+
Dr. Ingrao is pretty awesome. He really cares about his students and tries to keep the class engaged, although he can be pretty monotone at times. Make sure you study the notes he puts on elearning...guaranteed A if you do that!
He was a great teacher and the books that assigned to us were interesting. However, the attendance was mandatory and had assigned seats.
Odd teacher. Lol you'll see what I mean. But an easy A for me. He does take attendance and you have to pick a seat and stick with it..but its not bad at all. Make sure you read elearning notes and if you read the books, you'll have no problem getting over a 100 on all the tests. The paper was probably the hardest, high testgrades make up for it tho
He looks like an amish guy. Regardless, he's a good lecturer but his voice is monotone. If you take good notes of his lectures, you'll do well on the tests (I didn't read a single book and got an A).
If you study his notes on eLearning, you'll do amazing. He offers about 20 points of extra credit on each test. Also good if you listen to lectures, which can be a little dull but he mentions only things that will be on the test. Got to watch films in class (The Dark Knight was one), and got A+s on all the tests.
He is a fun teacher! A bit mono toned but even so you can tell he enjoys teaching. You have to read a few book but they are all tiny paperbacks so its do-able but even if you do not you can still get a A as long as you take notes. Oh and you will have to write essays as homework. Also short answer test. Hope this helps.
Great teacher. He is a bit mono tone, but has a good sense of humor (especially considering some of the reading in this course) and maintains an interesting group conversation with the class. Knows his stuff. Tests were easy if you studied, presentations were easy, one research paper that required A LOT of work, tough grader.
Super funny guy, Books are not required because all the notes are online, and all the tests are based on the notes.
Awesome professor. Easiest class. I love how he speaks - he enunciates every word. I enjoyed studying his material!
What can I say about this guy?! He is awesome! Easiest professor around. If you want an EASY A then take this class. BUT I have to warn you NOT to take this class at 8:30 in the morning. Guaranteed that you will fall asleep at least once during the semester! Awesome Professor!!
Great professor, and extremely attentive and helpful. Just turn in assignments on time, and read the novels.
Class is easy.
Very easy class - professor is funny at times and you will watch a lot of movies during class.
His class was completely boring and he barely gives time for participation. His class is very easy if you can get over his boring lectures. He is an easy grader and gives almost a word for word review for the midterm for an easy A. His final is a paper where he gives you his thoughts after a rough draft. Easy A.
Prof Ingrao is not difficult but you have to pay attention at all times and take good notes. His exams are based on his lectures and they are the key to passing his class plus reading the novels. Enjoyed his class with the group assignments and videos he demonstrated in class.
Professor Ingrao is funny and kind. The class is easy if you do the reading, which is usually pretty interesting. He loves class participation, and discussions are always very rewarding. He will hand you answers on a silver platter if you pay attention and he will work with you every step leading up to the final. I highly recommend this class!
Ingrao was a very easy professor. We were required to read a couple of books, but I didn't read any of them and still made over 100% on all the exams. Just pay attention and take notes during class, or just look at the notes he posts on his website.
he gives a lot of details on the books we have to read in class. he does a great job at allowing the class to interact. there really is no right or wrong, so long as you have a strong stance on your pov. the notes on blackboard are extremely helpful
If you go to the lectures and pay attention you most likely will pass the class. Reading the books gives you a better chance to get an A in the class. He keeps most of the lectures thought provoking and interesting. Take him for HUMA because I have heard other professors are not as great as he is.
One of the best professors I've had. He's really helpful, and keeps class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, but it gives a small boost to your grade if you do. Study his notes, skim the notes, and come to class and you will get a A+ for sure.
Dr. Ingrao is the best! He is very kind and intelligent and his lectures are interesting. There was never a time where the class did not discuss something interesting. Highly recommend taking his class you will not regret it.
Ingrao is a good lecturer. You'll learn a lot about literature and monsters in his class, which is a lot more interesting than the Intro to Humanities courses offered by other professors. Study his online notes to do well on tests. He only has four grades: two exams, one short paper, and a final project. This class should be a breeze.
Best Humanities Professor! He kept the class interesting. There are 4 required books and I did not read a single one, but I still made an A. As long as you pay attention in class and read his online notes, the class is an easy A. 2 quizzes, 2 tests, a short essay, and a group project.
He's my favorite professor of all time! He's a great lecturer and extremely interesting to listen to. We watched various clips and movies and applied the to the books, which opened my mind. He is responsible with my new obsession with zombies and dystopias.
Dr. Ingrao was an excellent professor. I took his Southern Lit class and enjoyed it so much I wanted to do an independent study with him. He is a brilliant professor who is extremely knowledgable in his field. I recommend that everyone should take any class he offers. You will be glad you did.
He is very thorough and his tests have built in 20 extra credit points. The quizzes are not even for a grade, they only determine whether if you are on the borderline of two grades such as A and A- whether he rounds up to A or down A-. The test questions are extremely basic and just by reading spark notes one can still easily achieve an A.
Like the other comments, you can get an A without reading the books. Ingrao is very monotone so you will feel sleepy at times, but he is a GREAT lecturer and has a lot of knowledge to offer. Exams are directly based on the learning module notes he puts on eLearning so memorize those. The only things that require effort are course essay and project
He's the best! As you read from the comments below, the grading in his class is very straight forward. I really enjoyed his class; it definitely made you think outside the box. Professor Ingrao also made lectures very engaging and interesting. I highly recommend him!!
All you learn about is robots, golems, monsters, etc. Pretty interesting material but can get boring at times. He grades very easy. Grades are based on 2 tests, essay, and a project. Also there are pop quizzes over material that you were supposed to read, but read sparknotes and you're good.
made a mistake by buying the books. Class is easy, but he still expects you to try.
speaks clearly. elearning modules are quite helpful if you want to skip class.
Ingrao is very interesting and the class is pretty easy. Just show up and study learning modules.
Easily one of my favorite professors ever. Great sense of humor, and clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. Didn't think I would enjoy the class, but ended up looking forward to it every day.
Best professor ever. You find yourself looking forward to contributing to the dialogue he keeps open throughout class. You can really tell that he genuinely loves his subject matter, and you find yourself kinda loving it too! I've yet to sit in on a class where the professor so positively engages his students the way Dr. I does.
Dr. Ingrao is an amazing professor! Not only is the material interesting (I love comics), but he as a person is extremely intelligent, funny, and really passionate about the class and his students. Also very cute, haha. Easy and very fun class.
Lectures over material well and usually picks a unique theme for the class. Has good class discussion but be prepared to participate or there will be awkward silences. If you read the material and put in some work, you will do well and probably enjoy the class.
If you pay attention to what he's saying, I think you might learn the secret to life or something. He picks some fun readings and does multimedia instruction (we had films + art + lit). If you're interested in zombies, he will change the way you see monsters: ask him. Srsly. If you don't pass his class, you're not trying or aren't read for college.
He's a very passionate and knowledgeable instructor! Does different themes every semester; he did superheroes when I took the class. His lectures are fun and interesting. He hands out several pop quizzes throughout the semester and they rely on outside reading. There's some essays and the tests are MC and short essay questions. Fun and easy class.
Great class and great professor! Super interesting despite all the reading. Read lots of classics like Beowulf, Dracula, and Frankenstein. This professor made me enjoy stories I hated back in High School!
I took humanities as a required course and expected it to be a blow-off class. In a sense it was, but Ingrao made the class interesting. By the end of the semester it was the only class that I looked forward to. It is easy to get an A.
Dr. Ingrao assigns a lot of reading, but you don't really have to keep up with them to do well. If you go to class and pay attention you will be set. There are 2 exams, a short essay, and a group project. He often tries to get a group discussion going among the class. He really does care about his students and wants them to succeed.
Took the Superheroes course. Your grade is solely tests and the group project, and all the quizzes can help or harm your grade. Tests were super easy, I never cracked open any textbook or did any of the readings, he teaches everything from the textbook in class. It was a fun course! The group project was very clear cut too.
Group project takes the most amount of time in this class! Never did readings because he goes over the important information in class and that is what I found most beneficial for use of time. Really nice professor and cares so much for his students. 2 tests, a short essay, and group project are your only grades so take them seriously.
He is entirely dependent on his TA for the course. His TA David is biased towards some of the students and ends up giving them more points for half the work done. All the work is graded by the TA and it is very unfair for a TA to have so much power in a class. Dr Peter and his TA were very unhelpful and insensitive throughout the semester.
Wasn't sure about Humanities, but Dr. Ingrao is great!! I learned a lot of interesting things about classic literature. The class was monster themed which was really cool!! We read: Beowulf, Frankenstein, Dracula, and I Am Legend
Ingrao was great! TA David was not helpful, but neither him or Ingrao grade very hard. The exams in this class were the easiest I've taken so far in college. I looked forward to each class because Dr. Ingrao had some really intriguing lectures. I didn't really need to read much from the books. Class work was pretty straightforward.
Not lenient, but not difficult. If you do the readings and study your notes, you'll be fine. Please read the criteria, because they are very strict about every detail. If you do what you are told then you should be fine. Pop quizzes beware. There are some boring days and some interesting days. One group project. David(TA) was helpful in my opinion.
You really don't need to do the recommended readings. Know the required readings before you go into class so you have an idea of what he's talking about. Pop quizzes are a thing. TA Kelso was really helpful and super nice. All the material for the exam is gone over in class so just look at the learning modules and whatever notes you've taken.
Dr. Ingrao is a good lecturer for humanities and has been known as one of the easier ones. His class was interesting, but did require a lot of work. A lot of time was spent reading novels. Pop quizzes can be expected and reading the learning modules is also expected. Tests are slightly difficult.
Ingrao is seriously the best professor of the humanities at UTD. I'm about to take my third class with him.
Lots of extra credit opportunities and bonus points on the test, just pay attention to what he says in class especially when he explains the powerpoint slides (images), beginning the reading may seem extensive but honestly his learning mods REALLY help. End of the year SUPER chill, no need to participate, 3 page essay unlike other class with 13
Dr. Ingrao is a solid choice for a literature professor. His lectures are interesting - even in a 4-hr twice a week summer session - and the texts chosen for this course (Contemporary American Lit) kept me involved and motivated to see it through. Pop quizzes - 6, Midterm, Group project, and final project. Not too much to ask, IMO. Enjoyed it!
Just sit at the back of the class and do your own thing, study hard on the day before the test, maintain a test average of 85, do the extra credit, and you'll still get an A. He gives a lot of extra credit.
I love Prof Ingrao! His lectures are interesting to listen to. I'm not really one for talking in class so I didn't and that's completely fine too. There's plenty of extra credit opportunities. You can spark notes the books assigned and read the learning modules for the quizzes and exams. Lots of movies shown in class, so its fun and also an Easy A
A good professor for a subject I know nothing about nor do I have any interest in. I showed up to class and took advantage of extremely generous extra credit. I didn't read any assigned reading and made an A. Pay attention to the lectures and you will ace every quiz and the essay will be easy, because you will understand the concepts of the course.
This was the most incredible class I've had the privilege of taking at UTD. The content was fascinating and Dr. Ingrao is fantastic! I was not familiar with all of the topics presented in class as it dealt some with zombies and vampires in relation to literature of the American South, but it has made me want to pursue further study of the genre.
This professor is phenomenal! The content is interesting and relevant to the overall theme of the course. There are six in-class quizzes, an in-class discussion presentation, a midterm paper, and a research paper. Work hard and put effort into the assignments. Learning from Dr. Ingrao is an honor, you will not be disappointed.
One of my favorite professors at UTD. Dr. Ingrao is very knowledgable and you can learn a lot from him. The topic for my section was monsters so we read things like Frankenstein, Dracula, and I am Legend. It was a super fun class and I would definitely take him again.
He's the best proff I've had. 11/10 honestly. He's actually interesting and cares about what he teaches which makes it fun. He's pretty easy going. DON'T skip seriously. It was truly a fun class and more proffs should be like him. It's hard to make him not like you. Literally go to class and maybe raise your hand once in a while.
My class was about superhero movies, so it was pretty fun
I loved this class! I am not a big reader but the subject and books chosen were fun and really interesting. Lectures were very informative and prof. Ingrao is and engaging speaker. Random quizzes every once in a while but there was plenty of extra credit if you bombed those. It was a good start to the day and a fun escape from all my math classes.
Only take this class if you are interested in superhero movies otherwise you will be bored and attendance is mandatory.
Easy class if you showed up and did what you were supposed to. Quizzes and tests were a breeze if you paid attention. He liked you more if you participated, even if it was just your opinion. Easy A and lots of extra credit
best class i have ever taken. you can learn so much from him and he loves it when people participate in class and share their thoughts. you analyze superhero films and articles associated with those movies and how these movies relate to us in real life. wish i could take the course again.
This semester, our humanities class was about superhero films. As a person who never seen any of the films before, I was skeptical at first, but this class quickly became one of my favorite classes I ever took. Professor Ingrao is great at lecturing and the class incorporates readings from articles with superhero films. The TA was very friendly too
completely changed the entire curriculum. has a second lecture where long readings and essays are assigned every week. tests are now two parts: half multiple choice, half free response. assigned seats in class like youre still in middle school.
This class changed from what I had heard before. Tests can be tricky and the essay part is graded too strictly. Some TA'a are way too strict compared to others which is unfair in my opinion. Conversation section assignments included 300-600 word write ups for the first several weeks. Recommend reading recent reviews ab him cuz his class is harder
do not read the old reviews before january 2019!!! he changed the class for the spring semester and it's so much worse than the old class. there is a second lecture where you'll have to read the required readings that can be difficult to understand and write 300-500 word short essays over them every week. the tests are now part mc and part essay.
the curriculum has changed so much, it's actually one of the classes I stress about even though I'm taking harder classes. we have lectures twice a week and then conversations once a week, which we have to write essays for. some TA's are easy graders and some are tough. the tests aren't terrible as long as you study. you get to watch movies though!
If you get Ms .Escalante as your TA, get ready for your GPA to tank. She doesn't know what she's talking about when you ask her a question and she grades the essays so harshly :/ Dr. Ingrao is fine and his lectures can be interesting. Overall, I don't recommend
I took this class last semester and it was fine.... not too much work and extra credit carried everyone (not that the class was too hard anyway). Now however, my friends in the class say there is a lot of work and writing. Also... watch out for the TAs! He also talks during the movies which can get a little annoying ha ha
Assigned seating for 200+ students lol. If you want 50 bonus points, attend the classes & conversation sections. Tests aren't difficult, but doing the weekly homework papers is really annoying. He also sends his TAs all throughout the class to pick out the people who are on their phones/sleeping/etc. You watch a lot of movies tho.
You're able to miss up to four classes and still get extra credit, which really helps. His exams are completely based on lectures & readings he assigns in class, but he is really interesting and funny. My class was over superheroes and we watched a couple of films in class and discussed them. He's a great professor I would take again.
Ingrao teaches this class with superheros. You can miss up to 4 days of class and 2 days of conversations to get extra credit points. His class is based on points and you watch movies in class. You can also get away with not reading the textbook. There is 1 big paper at the end, that they grade harshly on, but you can still get an A+ overall.
It changed a lot from the past semesters where they make you do a lot more reading and writing like what everyone said. But you can still make an A without going to conversations and without doing the readings because I didn't. Just go to large class and look over the learning modules.
you get extra credit just for going to class. makes his lectures based on a theme - ours was marvel movies. doesn't even feel like an actual class. we watched marvel movies and discussed gender equality etc. few quizzes and 3 exams which are really easy if you go to class and pay attention. you do have to read a little for the quizzes though.
They changed up the curriculum a lot, but the course is still easy (just a lot more work). There are 3 exams, 5 short writing prompts, and a major essay that they grade pretty harshly on. Depending on your TA, the course could be an easy A or an absolute headache, which is unfair imo. 50 points of extra credit available and tests are pretty easy.
The semester I took this class, it was unnecessarily hard, but that may have been due to my TA. The TA grades all your short writings and essays, so having a tough TA, like me, will make this class difficult. A portion of your grade is attendance and there are things from lecture that aren't posted online, so you have to show up for class.
Dr. Ingrao made Humanities an enjoyable class. The topics he chooses offer an outlet for reflection on one's "humanity." From a discussion I had with him, he has over 5 different ways of teaching the class. One way, which he did with us, was monsters. It was after this class that I had to seriously consider a minor.
By far one of the best classes I've taken at UTD so far. The course material is interesting and it is presented in a way that makes students eager to learn and makes it easy to do really well. Attendance is mandatory, but if you get 3 or less skips you automatically get 20 extra bonus points. Pay attention and do the readings and you'll do good
Professor Ingrao tries incredibly hard to create an active learning environment, but HUMA requires a ridiculous amount of reading that is nearly all uninteresting material. Heavy potential for bonus points, so getting an A is incredibly easy, but be ready to have to "read" a book a week and write an essay every other week. Wouldn't reccommend.
Ingrao's class heavily depends on your TA. Most of them are very nice and easy graders. Be sure to read the books (or at least LitChart them) and you'll do fine on the tests. Tests are composed of 20-25 MC Questions (4 Points Each) + 2 Bonus MC Questions (5 Points Each) and a Free Response Essay (12 Points). Do all the assignments on time.
Take this class if you want a GPA booster. It is VERY easy to get an A+. Lots of reading but using spark notes or lit charts should do the trick. Also lots of extra credit.
This class is an easy A if you just show up and complete the assignments on time. I read the first book but quickly realized that this was completely unnecessary and used sparknotes/cliffnotes for the rest of the semester. The most "difficult" part was the writing assignments only because it was slightly time consuming.
Dr Ingrao is a great lecturer and explains the concept of humanities very well in his way. This was a very interesting class that had a philosophical underlying to it. Easy A if you do all the assignments and pay attention.
Dr. Ingrao may come across as a bit of a dry lecturer, but if you actually pay attention, you will learn so much. He is very nice and always willing to answer questions. He even helped me come up with my paper topic! You will not regret taking his course! He is just so passionate about his subject!
Excellent professor who is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. He was my favorite professor throughout undergrad. He does different themes every year, and we happened to do superheroes. Reading is heavy but extra credit is given for attendance. Grading depends on how good the TA is and tests/assignments are lecture heavy.
Dr. Ingrao is a gifted professor. He is very articulate in his analyses of works - in their inspiration, characters, authors, themes, and influence onto art, film, politics, and related literature. His lectures are in depth. He and the TAs were always available and really helpful. This class is a lot of work though. Tests/discussion boards/essays.
Dr. Ingrao is an amazing professor! Although there is a lot of reading, I just used LitCharts and was able to pass tests with A's. A lot of writing assignments but if you get them done on time, this class will be an easy A and gpa booster!
Wonderful! Made his lectures fun and interesting. The books and topics he chooses are very engaging, I loved his class!
Very fun and passionate about what he teaches! An excellent and easy class, as long as you put in the work to read the material covered in the course. The format was learning about literary ideas through the medium of superhero narratives, which I think was very fun and easy to get engaged in what was being taught. Would totally recommend!
Professor Ingrao really cares about what he's teaching and wants his students to learn. There's one group project at the end and a paper, but it's all very doable. There are assigned readings due most classes and in-class essays but if you do your hw , you should be fine. Definitely take this class: great prof and interesting lectures.
Kind and caring professor & he's clearly passionate about the material and engages students in discussion. However, make sure you READ THE SYLLABUS; he switches his material every semester. For me, he taught comic books. Tests and essays are easy. If you're doing comics, it helps if you have prior knowledge. You also get to watch a lot of films
Dr. Ingrao is an amazing professor! He is very clear on his instructions and the grading material for the class. Attendance and participation is important so as long as you show up and pay attention you will be fine. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities but be ready to read and write. Love him!!
Made me so miserable. Based the entire semester off of comic books, we were getting tested on our abilities to remember film dates instead of elements of writing. Awful.
Took him for honors. The readings are not difficult to analyze or read. Short Writing prompts are published before they are due in class. The 20 minute time constraint will take getting used to, an outline helps. Projects and Essays are very easy. He is very forgiving with grading, just contribute something new or interesting to the conversation.
This class is awesome because he picks a different theme each semester. If you get behind in the reading it is difficult though, which I did during midterms. If you can keep up with the reading then this is an awesome course. Exams aren't hard as long as you go over the notes he provides. Good class discussions too.
This class is NOT easy. There's a ton of readings. there's a quiz on the readings about every 3 weeks but you have time to do them and its a short essay. The exams are closed book and you need to know the readings and material very well in order to do well. However, there's extra credit opportunities. The lectures were wonderful and engaging.
Overall good professor. If you are not interested in superheroes I would not recommend this professor. But if you pay attention and put in effort you should do well.
Dr.Ingrao was a good prof. Assignments were clear and detailed in the syllabus. He was responsive to emails as well. Given his age, he's not full of energy, but by reading the books/just reading a summary of them, his lectures are easy to understand. My biggest advice: don't procrastinate and work ahead on writing and the semester essay.
He's great. I was in his HN.1 section. The essays are time-intensive and you need a good knowledge of the lectures and books he has assigned to write a 10/10. He is very passionate about literature and you can see that in the way he speaks. The lectures are sort of stream-of-consciousness; it is almost like having a conversation with the professor.
This course is reading intensive with 5 books and additional readings assigned throughout the semester. You will have to write 1 essay and 5 mini-essays (1 for each book). Dr. Ingrao is clearly passionate about literature, and I enjoyed listening to him talk about the novels. Exams are easy if you are prepared. Make sure you look at the syllabus.
I LOVED Dr. Ingrao's class which was on dystopia and utopia as well as superhero movies. It is kind of reading heavy since you read 4 books but learning modules he provides sum up the books enough to do good on the tests. The quizzes take some getting used to but are easy at the end. Plenty of extra credit and I would take him again in a heartbeat!
amazing professor for literature. there is a LOT of essays and reading so make sure you have your due dates in check and can keep up. exams are usually pretty easy for the most part and he likes marvel and includes it in the course which is cool. many extra credit opportunities which is super helpful
I have never taken a literature class before but thought Dr. Ingrao's class would be a fun elective. It was! There was a lot of reading but he made the following discussions interesting. The essay was hard but the other projects/quizzes were very easy. His sense of humor sneaks up on you, but he is very funny despite a somewhat serious exterior.
Dr. Ingrao is a great professor. He put a lot of effort into making his course material engaging, educational, and manageable. His TA is a harsh grader though which I personally didn't mind, but she's very vague with her feedback so I was often confused about what I did wrong and couldn't take it into account for future assignments.
Took this professor for an online summer course and it was very reading heavy, as any upper-level lit class. As a professor, he is very caring and flexible with his students. Reliable and understanding. Definitely would take him again.
I had a class with him in 2018 for humanities and what I experienced was inhumanities. Very rude and disrespectful not only towards many students including myself but our amazing TA (I think her name was Elham or Elam) to who I owe my grade as she was so professional and caring to email students like me who had absents or problems to extend help
Very heavy in reading but a fairly easy course. He was also very into Marvel and superheros so he made the course interesting.
You're not allowed to multitask in class (can't use electronics other than for notes). Technically, attendance is not mandatory but you will get extra credit if you show up. Basically, show up = easy A
This professor is excellent if you want a class that can teach you valuable skills and give you a unique ability to make important insights about the modern world. Mr. Ingrao can teach you all of this while at the same time letting you watch superhero movies and keeping the class engaging which is excellent.
Dr. Ingrao was a great professor, and I got to watch superhero movies for his class. He was engaging in my opinion, and his class was interesting to analyze superheroes in a literary setting. The only thing was that I did not like the TA for this class, but that happens. Show up to lecture because it helps a lot for exams and extra credit.
I have had Dr. Ingrao for two semesters at UTD, and he is an amazing teacher! Get ready to read "William Faulkner!" His assignments and syllabus were clear to understand. He loves to engage the class in discussions and gives excellent constructive feedback. I would recommend him to anyone and retake his class.
This is my second course I have done with Dr. Ingrao and I am glad I had the chance to take a class with him again. He is a wonderful professor that cares about his students. He always gives excellent feedback. The course is not too heavy on homework, but it's not necessarily easy either. Just put in the work and you will succeed.
He's generally a nice guy and easy to reach out to. He's flexible with mistakes and deadlines if you contact him beforehand and explain yourself. Additionally, he has fun assignments in class from time to time such as movies. For 1301, there really isn't too much of a workload and he grades kindly. He does, however, take attendance religiously.
Really good Professor, lectures were very entertaining, and got to watch films in class. Not a lot of work, but grading is very tough on the short responses. Exams are really easy and MC, offers lots of extra credit. Only thing I wish that was better was how the TA graded. She is very nice but grades very tough. Attendance is taken very seriously.
This was a fun, informative, and relevant class. Dr. Ingrao made himself available during office hours and even loaned me a book. The tests were fair, with EC given during the test and an assignment. Simply do the reading and participate in class.
Just a flying colors professor that has such great care when it comes to discussion of literary materials. Nothing more to say, will be taking him for summer.
Amazing professor
Was an easy class. The reading and writing assignments were easy and exams were open notes. He even offered extra credit for talking to TA.
Professor Ingrao's LIT1301 class is engaging and informative. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable. Utilize Unstuck study and the free textbook to excel. Overall, a great class for anyone looking to explore literary analysis in a fun, interactive setting.
Professor Ingrao is wonderful. He gives interesting and relevant readings, no homework besides 4 papers and the books he asks you to read. Class is a big discussion of the books, and attendance is recommended because the tests are based off of class discussion, plus he gives extra credit for 2 absences or less. Extra credit project available.
overall a good class, he talks from beginning to end, and slowly. In my opinion he grades pretty difficutly and the freedback I recieved on my papers was very wordy and kind of unclear, also he takes a long time to grade, about a week and a half to recieve a grade for a paper. His exams are easy, and there are only 3 and no final.
Professor Ingrao is awesome! Nice old guy. Class consists of him talking over the readings. Participation doesn't really matter. 5 short response essays which imo are graded pretty easily. 3 exams which are pretty easy as long as you look at the class notes. We watched 2 films as well. Offers 20 point extra credit if you simply go to class.
Dr. Ingrao is a good professor in my opinion. His lectures cover mostly discussions of the readings/films we read/watch. His class is out of 400 points and has 5 short responses (~400 words/ 20 points each), 3 tests (25 MCQ/ 100 point each), attendance extra credit (20 points if less than 3 absences), and an extra credit (30 points).
there are no textbooks, but there are quizzes based on books you have to read, however, you don't have to buy them. He doesn't grade the assignments, the TA does and she was super tough on grades. Other than that, the three exams were on the books and the two movies we watched. there is also one essay that required academic sources
awesome class
Dr. Ingrao was one of the best professors I had at utd. Genuinely so kind and amazing. His lectures were always interesting to listen to. His feedback on the material we were learning was always so good and thought provoking. He gives extra credit and also does exam reviews the class before. Take him as a professor you will not regret it!
One of the easist professors that you can take I would take him again!
Professor Ingrao really cares about his students and his lectures are very entertaining. His TA's grade a bit harshly but there are extra credit oppurtunities and his tests are veryy easy. Extra 20 marks for not missing more than 2 classes , very easy to get an A.
Professor is passionate and kind. His analyses are really interesting! Lectures are longggg. HAVE to go to class and take notes to do good on exams. You'll have to buy some books. TA's grade harsh on the short responses. Attendance is mandatory if you want the extra credit points.
Wonderful professor! His lectures are very insightful and are basically like conversations with the class about the books. He gives notes online which are super helpful for exams. The exam is all mcq with 2 extra credit questions (10 points). There were only 4 short responses so not a whole lot of HW besides reading. EC for coming to class too!
Would recommend 100% Dr Ingrao, his lectures are based on discussions and allows students to express their opinions, helps go over the review for the test, and helps clarify any doubts on the material. There's reading involved but usually the lectures help summarize it. Sometimes you get to watch movies in the class, enjoyed it a lot!!
Overall a chill, funny professor. His classes consist mostly of him going over readings and watching movies. Assignments are group based but are fairly easy with proper communication with peers. Attendance is mandatory if you want extra credit.
This class is really difficult to fail. The exams are very easy - the answers are basically given to you on review days. There are group responses before every exam, but theyre fairly easy and the TA was very helpful witht he feedbacks. The Prof is passionate about LIT and also has humor. Attendance is mandatory, but its an easy A+ so no excuses.
It was pretty easy to get an A. The class had 3 non-cumulative exams and 5 discussion group assignments. You have to read, but imo the readings weren't bad, you could also probably skim the pages and be fine, as the professor goes over it during the lecture. There were also some movies we watched, and a lot of extra credit points for attendance.
Free online readings! Very chill prof. If you take lecture notes, you'll probably still get an A without reading anything since he covers most of the exam content. 50 pts of extra credit from attendance (that's insane) + ec questions on each exam too. Be warned, some readings (Geek Love) are disturbing, but that's also what makes it interesting.
Fantastic professor! Genuinely cares about the students and is super passionate about what he teaches. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Overall, I had a great and memorable class experience with him.
There are 3 exams each that have 25 questions with two extra credit questions (5 points each). You also get extra credit for attendance. 5 group discussions (20 points each) The TA grades the group assignment and I would say it a bit harsh with unclear feedback. Overall the lectures were great and all class material was available online for free.
Dr. Ingrao's lectures are awesome! If you need the Humanities credit it's a no brainer
Really knows what he's talking about. The course is usually structured around a central theme. The downside is that nobody really participates in class. Reading is critical to being able to do the group discussions, but his lectures help with understanding the plot. Attendance extra credit helps a lot (Went from C+ to A+ from it)
Professor Ingrao is a great instructor, and although his lectures did make me sleepy, they were enjoyable to attend. However, the group work was a pain sometimes due to unequal contributions from some members, but the assignments are easy and mostly graded by the TA. This semesters' novels were not my favorite, but the course itself is great!
