Dr.Jones is one of the few Jr.Colege Instructors that will really prepare you for upper level. His tests are all essay, yet he gives you a thourgh review, it's up to you to learn the material. He is tops in my book, he makes you work for the grade.
Dr. Jones is honestly the closest thing you will find to a University professor at TJC. He is brilliant. Somehow, he makes history fun, while at the same time completely expecting the best from his students. Take his class before you try and transfer.
He is tough, but good.
Fun and interesting during class. Tests are all essay so STUDY!! Write down as much as you can during lecture. Smoke may be coming off your paper but class will be fun!
He is a very liberal Democrat who freely throws his views and opinions in with the lecture. His tests are very subjective and he is very picky about dates. You have to study ALOT to do well in this class.
He's the coolest. He's definately as far left in the Democratic realm that can possibly be reached. Yet, I'm a strong Republican and still thoroughly enjoy his class.
Dr. Jones is the absolutly best teacher I have ever had in college. He is a tough professor and yes he is picky about dates, but he is willing to help in anyway he can. If I could I would still take his classes today, but I am no longer at TJC. I definitely reccomend him to everyone.
i love this guy. one of the only classes i have ever looked forward to taking. don't get me wrong he's tough. i wish he was at a university so i could some more courses through him.
Jones, makes the class fun to sit in. Some days he'll come to class and say "I don't want to teach, what do you want to talk about?" However, be prepared to study for his exams! To pass you have to know the dates and what the person/thing did.
Jones is an excellent teacher unwilling to let students scrape by without understanding. His essay tests force you to take class seriously and are not too difficult once prepared. You'll love the class whether you enjoy history or not.
Very interesting individual, has a good sense of humor and makes the subject interesting as well. Very descriptive and highly recommended if you're a note taker! He's really good at seperating thoughts for the note takers.

Jones was my first college professor my freshmen year. He was tough, but fun and entertaining.
Dr. Jones is easy to listen to. He explains everything throughly you just have to study for the "Learning Experiences" seriously. The test is essays and identify and he wants every detail. Good teacher if you study!!
This teacher is great and funny as hell. One day he slipped and fell on the floor and did not get up he just said, "I do not see how to gracefully recover from this, so I will just stay down here." He gave the rest of the lecture from the floor. He is fun and a great story teller. I felt like I was in preschool just this time I had hand cramps
Interesting fellow. He tests you stricklty off of his lecture, and his tests are essays and identify events and people. He will let you goof off, if your class is fun. He loves to destroy your heros by telling you they were****s, or ****s or something, which might be true, but he doesn't tell you the whole story. Take it with a grain of salt.
Loved his class. One of the best teachers I have ever had and probly cares about his students. He is extremely fun and interesting and if you do what he says you'll do great in the class. Recomend him strongly for any student!
He was the best teacher i ever had. I wish all my teachers taught like him. He makes it to where when you leave his class you actually know something. I recommend you take him..only if you take good notes and show up everyday and if you can't make it every day make sure you show up for the review.
Good teacher, very interesting and very funny. His classes are all lecture, and his tests are all essay so be sure to study!!
Very good teacher, makes you laugh everyday, very very interesting. He actually acts like a real person and doesn't put up a prude teacher image. I have all the notes in a notebook, email me me if you are interested. Email: [email protected]
I loved attending his class. He is very intelligent and cares for his students.
I took him for both 1301 and 1302, and he is my favorite teacher ever, very funny and will wake you up if its your best class and is a class to look foward, its all lecture and he knows how to teach and truly cares for his students,he gives you a review well ahead, but you must study, i highly recomend him for any Hist. class
I took him for 1302 he def knows what hes talking about, i enjoyed his lectures and never missed a class, he will def keep u awake he has to be one of the best that i have taken so far, be sure to study for the test and know dates the test are all esay
He is a very good lecturer. Word around campus is that he is horrible, but I absolutely love this man!!!
AWESOME TEACHER! He makes the class fun and internesting. He will joke around with you while hes teaching. You dont need the book. and you get an A for coming to class. He gives you a review for his ''learning experiences'' and it tells you whats on the test. come to class and listen and youll pass!
LOVED HIS CLASS!!! He makes his lectures as interesting as possible and you can really get something out of the class. Tests are easy but you have to study!!!
Dr. Jones is awesome!!! I love history, and I learned so much from him. He makes it interesting, and keeps you entertained. You need to show up for class, but if you study for his "learning experiences", you'll do well.
Dr. Jones is a wonderful teacher but I'm just not good in history and he gives his lectures very fast. If you aregood in History you will love his class.
I was recommended to take Dr. Jones' class. This man cracks me up! He is definitely harder than most profs but if you come to class and can take notes, the tests are relatively simple! Warning, the tests are all essay so if you hate writing this is definitely not the prof for you.
This class is perfect if you blow off everything else in your life to study things that will be useless once the semester is over.
Dr. Jones is awesome. His class is really hard but if you really want to learn something take his class! Ill be taking him again next semester!
I don't understand why anyone would want to take him. He knows more than anyone ive ever met about history, but his class is very hard to make an A in. I make A's in most of my classes and barely made a C in this class. Although he is funny, and is a nice guy, if you care about having a good gpa, i recommend not to take him.
I LOVED this class. I was worried about taking Dr. Jones at first because I had heard he was hard. He is hard, but if you study the review he gives it's easy to make at least a B on the "learning experience". You might not get an A in the class, but it's well worth it because he's an excellent teacher. He made getting to an 8:25 class very easy.
Took both 1301 and 1302 back in 02. His tests were hard as it was all essay and memorizing! He is funny and I enjoyed him as a history teacher.
hahahahahahahahaha the man cusses in one lecture than anyone i know he is so freaking awesome. one day he tapped danced. and we have a guy in our class with a flesh colored beard and he always makes fun of him its amazing. he knows all the crazy facts like ann bolen had 3 breast and 11 fingers....... he is amazing just take notes
Take this professor. His lecture is inedibly interesting and while his tests are essays as long as yu go and take notes is a breez. Plus u get your study guide plenty i advance. i highly recomend this class, its so fun!
Hehe, I was the one with the flesh-colored beard....This guy's pretty good though. Truly, he's awesome. Pete's the man.
Yeah this class is way too hard for a history class. His lectures are boring and I didn't think that he was funny at all. I guess that you could think that he is funny if you like a really dry and cruel sense of humor, and if you think it's funny that he makes fun of people then yeah he is a riot. His tests are essay and they are hard!
Awesome teacher! Not an easy class by any stretch of the imagination, but worth the effort! He lectures from his head with no noted or books, tests or "learning experiences" are all essay because "you can't bs through an essay like a scantron, you must know it" I am one of the "chosen few" to get an A in his class.. Most important step.. SHOW UP
Awesome teacher that actually teaches you something. Not for the faint at heart, though. His class is fairly difficult but extremely interesting. He was my absolute favorite teacher since my high school English teacher!
This guy is a character to say the least. Smokes a pipe out on his truck in between classes. Tests require a lot of studying though, and they are in an essay format. He is a really intelligent person and you will learn a lot of quirky things about history from him. Overall good professor.
I love this professor! So much that I also took 1302. Don't take if you cannot make it on time or if you don't like lectures.
Jones was awesome! My advice is too write down as much as you can of everything he says. His test is 100% consistent with his lectures, so if you study everything you write, then you will do good, i guarantee AT LEAST a B. He was also very funny and entertaining.
Dr.Jones is by far one of the most intelligent people I've had the pleasure of meeting. His class is thought provoking, entertaining, and full of pertinent information. Take notes and lots of them and you'll do just fine. I had him for both 1301 and 1302 and was disappointed to find he didn't teach any other classes I needed.
Jones is one of the hardest professors at TJC, but I learned more from him than anyone else! I even took him for 1302, and was disappointed that I couldn't take him for anything else. He really makes history applicable. He is hard though. You must show up on time (early) and be ready to take tons of notes and spend hours studying them!
Great professor. Must show up on time, take good notes, and study! He can have a cruel humor, but if you overlook that, he's willing to help you with anything (after class). Don't buy the book though! All information is in lectures, you won't use the book.
I had him for both HIST1&2, and he easily is my favorite professor so far. His humor can be dry, and his sarcasm is through the roof but he knows History like he was there when it happened. I didn't need to look at a book at all, he gave review sessions, and lots of double chances. If you're not afraid of a little hard work, he's the man to go to.
MUST TAKE EXCELLENT NOTES! I record his lectures& there is no way you can remember everything he says you have to be careful he will be talking& then he changes his voice mid sentence to surprise his students(dont sit in front) his tests are THE HARDEST TEST IVE EVER TAKEN. everything is written no multiple choice. long essays required. :(
Dr Jones is a fantastic teacher. He's funny, interesting, and a genius. His lectures are just that: lectures. He talks for most of the class without using notes. It can be hard to keep up but as long as you show up and take notes and study you'll do fine. Essay test format: easier than it sounds. Don't buy the text book, he doesn't use it.
He was the best teacher I've ever had. He always made the class laugh, and he always kept things really interesting. There was only one assignment, and you got to decide what you wanted to write on. The tests were super easy if you studied. All essay, but you just had to know a few basics. LOVED Jones.
Only grades were tests and attendance. Slept everyday, used google on my Iphone for every test. Very easy class. Made an A
Everytime you done attend class he takes 5 points off of your daily grade. ALL essay test. Very hard. Gives you 12 essay topics to cover and 75 short answer essay topics to cover on the study guide. I just left NYU last semester and I took history there and Dr. Jones is by far the hardest teacher I have had. He is very knowledgeable though
Before Dr. Jones' class I was convinced I couldn't learn History effectively. He wants you to succeed and does a FANTASTIC job of presenting materials. He always tells you exactly what will be on the tests and takes the time to answer any and all questions. He's cream of the crop at TJC. Taking anyone else's History class is cheating yourself!
This guy keeps his lectures lively and interesting, keeping even large classes involved. His essay and short answer tests mean you actully have to learn the material, which isn't as easy as multiple guess. It means you get alot more out of the class. Highly recommended!
Dr. Jones has been my favorite teacher at TJC. You only take 4 tests and they consist of only 1 essay and 5 identifications per test. If you care about the class, show up, and take notes then you won't have a problem passing. He cares sbout his students, but tries to hide it under his dry humor. His lectures are very brilliant, yet entertaining
It took me a while to get used to his class, which is one of the hardest I will probably ever take. But for the first time, I care about history. He made it come alive, as if his "I'm 650 years old" jokes hold some validity. Tests are essay and short answer and very hard, but take notes, go to EVERY class, and STUUUUDY! He's a genius. Recommended.
Mr. Jones is a very hard professor but if you actually want to learn something about history, then he's the one to take. It's not a class to fool around in. If you want to get ready for higher learning, this is it. Watching him prance around the class and make jokes can be hilarious. If you don't have a sense of humor he can be overwhelming.
Great teacher if you want professionalism and to learn the subject. Not a easy grade giver!
A good, quality professor overall. I like him personally also. The grading is very hard, and he doesn't even use the book I paid $120 for. I gave an answer on the test that was straight out of the book, almost word for word, but he marked it half wrong. Why buy the book if the material in it is wrong? But other than the tests I like him very much.
He's extremely hard, his standards are unrealistic. He expects you to know so much in a short amount of time. Good luck if you choose him as a professor.
Western civ. He makes it interesting, however, if u don't like to write your screwed. I love to write and enjoyed the class.
Dr. Jones is a BRILLIANT man. He knows his field and he is passionate about teaching it. His lectures are fun and interesting to attend and he is great at what he does. His test are hard but if you take good notes and study they're not the bad - it's not a class you can slack in but having Dr. Jones as a teacher is absolutely worth the extra work..
Dr. Jones was a very hard teacher but his class was wonderful. He challenged me which was exactly what I needed. If you want a GOOD history class take his! Awesome. But if you want an easy A, don't take him. However even though it was hard, it was not boring! Which to me a non boring class that's hard is better than boring and easy.
Started off a little nervous but he is a great guy and a great teacher he really makes you learn the material makes every class fun and interesting I really wish I could take his class again. Coming from a student that usually doesn't get along with teachers he is a little hard headed but a great sense of humor and really fun to make jokes with.
Awesome professor! You must attend every class because if you don't you will lose 5 points and miss a lot of info for the test. Essay based tests but if you start studying when he gives you the study guide you will pass. He is funny and makes class interesting. Can't wait to take him for HIST 1302!
You will learn a lot. There is no way if you go to class and take solid notes that you won't understand history. If history is your thing, it's worth taking the class.
Hilarious and laid back. Just go to class and you will do awesome.
This professor is extremely hard. His lectures can be entertaining, but the information given is too much in the time allotted. If you like history, you will enjoy his class. However, if you are trying to learn history, I would not recommend taking him.
When it came time to take the tests, we had to fully understand 10 topics to be able to write a 2 page essay over one of them and understand 98 different topics and be able to write about them as well in only one hour. I had to drop his class because the amount of material was overwhelming. Don't recommend for those with really busy schedules.
This teacher enjoys making fun of some of his students to make others laugh. His tests are WAY too hard for a junior college class. Good luck to anyone who takes him.
I attended his History 1301 class in the fall and his 1302 class in the spring. Both I highly recommend! The tests are a short essay and usually definitions. There is a lot to learn and he makes it clear that "you earn your grade, I do not give out grades". So spare some time for studying and you will do fine. Oh, and showing up on time helps too.
I Have had the pleasure of having Dr. Jones for HIST 1301, 1302 and 2312. Like the others have said he grades on attendance and the four tests you take. I do not agree with the student who said Dr. Jones makes fun of students to make others laugh. He does this to make what could be a boring class one of the most interesting that you can take.
Great professor, very clear on his lectures and what he requires from you. Never has he made fun of any students, and does a great job of keeping you interested in his class. Tests are not hard and by test date he makes sure you are well prepared for it. I would recommend him to any student. Pleasure to have him as a professor.
Dr. Jones is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had. Not only are his lectures entertaining, but they are also informative. While he is a highly cynical individual, he is very respectful toward students. The key to doing well in his class is attending every class and taking extremely detailed notes. I HIGHLY recommend this professor.
Great teacher has a passion for teaching history, really enjoyed the class.
MY FAV PROFESSOR AT TJC!!! He's hard, but you'll learn more than ever. He prepares you for other classes and if you pass his class you'll pass any other class. I took him for 1301 & 1302 and I wish I could take more classes with him.
At first he comes across hard, but he is just trying to weed out the people who don't really want to be there. After the first test (which he will drop the grade if it's low) he becomes much easier. Very informative and has a passion for teaching that not many have.
Dr. Jones likes you to think he is tough but really he has every students wellbeing in mind. He is not just teaching History, he is teaching life skills. 1) how to participate, 2) how to take notes, 3) How to write essays (in test form). If you want boring and easy don't take Dr. Jones. He will make you work for it, and you will LOVE History!
He was a really good professor. His lectures were sometimes boring, but he also reels you in by being somewhat obnoxious. His tests are strictly essays and short answer, so you will need a bluegreen book. He does grade for participation (attendance), so I suggest you go to class. It will help your grade. I didn't use the book. just studied notes.
Dr. Jones is a wonderful professor who is truly dedicated in teaching history. His lectures are interesting and colorful. Even if you don't enjoy history, you'll enjoy his lectures and discussions. Take very detailing notes, and you'll be set to pass his class. His lectures can be both subjective and objective. He will make you work for your GRADE!
Do not miss his class or you will fail. He only gives 4-5 tests through the whole semester and absolutely no homework. Loved his lectures and he is hilarious. Made me love history and almost changed my major. Take notes and study the guide and you will pass.
This professor is the best teacher I've had. I hate history, and I loved this class. His lectures are great. Beware of his tests though. When you are taking notes focus on the subjects from the review he gives you. Spend a good few days studying for tests.
He is really funny and entertaining making the lectures not so bad! The tests are extremely difficult because you have to memorize so many terms like 60+. On his tests out of the 60+ he chooses 8 and then you chose 5 to answer and essay. You have no clue what he will choose. He does not even choose the most important info. Make a Quizlet!
This professor is great! No homework except to study for tests. Tests are all writing. Don't let that scare you. You only have to write a few paragraphs over 1 of 2 prompts and one paragraph for each 5 of the 8 identification questions. His lectures are great! It's like he's telling a story. He has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor. Fun class
Mr. Jones was one of the rudest, most sarcastic professors I have ever had. He starts every class by discussing a controversial topic and then pushes his views on the students, which tend to be very liberal. His lectures are boring, and the tests are pure essay questions. No multiple choice. Although he does give you about 12 options for essays
Love love loved his class. He is so much fun to listen to, he tells you what you need to know, he gives you reviews before the test and is helpful if you ask questions. His test are all ONLY ESSAY AND SHORT ANSWER, they are the hardest thing I have done, but I managed. He is a tough tough grader, he has high expectations and nothing less.
Worst professor I have ever had at TJC. You are only tested over an essay question and key terms he selects out of the chapter. You then have to have all the information he wants to see in order to pass. Does not lecture very well, just rolled around in a rolling chair all semester and YELLS.
Professor Jones is one of those rare teachers that ultimately KNOWS what he is talking about(He has a doctorate in History for goodness sake!). His lectures are wonderful , I love to hear him talk although, there's a lot of things you should take notes on. Remember that if you decide not to read the textbook. Prepare to take his class serious!
This class in short summary: An old British professor who's expectations are quite too high, yells randomly to make you pee in your pants, gives you only four chances to make a grade, tests are ridiculous, conservatives are ignorant apparently, Hillary Clinton is Queen of his Hearts, and good luck Chuck.
Peter Jones is absolutely brilliant. He gives very thorough explanations and provides observations about the US. He allows you to truly learn and think. However, it's like taking an actual university class. The tests are your only grades and you MUST completely memorize 12 pages of notes to make an A. I respect him and would love to have him again.
Dr. Jones will provide all essential information for tests and assignments during his lectures which are FAST & DELIBERATE. Show up on TIME, take DETAILED NOTES, and be able to answer essay questions this class should be no problem. DON'T be afraid to ENGAGE in Discussion right or wrong it'll score points. He is TOUGH but FAIR.
Very knowledgeable and entertaining lecturer. Attendance is graded. Tests consists of short answer (who, what, where, when, etc) and essay only. Test review is just a list of terms. Not for the faint of heart if looking for an easy history credit, but good teacher.
Really entertaining and engaging. Gives reviews for next "learning experience" the next day after a test. If you don't really care about history I suggest taking his class. You'll find yourself enjoying the class. Lose points if late(after name called for attendance) or no show
Jones is a great teacher just show up to class and make sure to take good notes&you will pass. All his grades are based on test and you showing up to class(participation grade) His lectures are good and interesting. His test aren't hard he gives you the review for it 4 weeks in advance & its exactly like test. Test consist of 1 essay, & 5 key terms
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! Took him for history 1&2. His class is challenging, however he actually makes History interesting! Love him! He's hilarious and so very intelligent. I would take his class over and over again. Take him! You won't regret it.
Mr. Jones' lectures made me understand American history, and he teaches it well.
The best teacher known to man. His cocky eyebrows are known to be deadly in a good way. He is one sassy boy and does not take any attitude.
The grade is solely based on your 4 test grades and attendance. The tests are all writing & he only lectures so its important you pay attention & go along with the review for each test, take good notes, & attend class. I enjoyed his lectures and felt like I truly learned history because I needed to pay attention constantly & I only missed one class
I took Dr. Jones for History 1. He gives four tests and gives out a review sheet at the beginning of every quarter. Between his lectures and review, if you fail his class, its your fault. The essay only tests can feel intimidating but but he gives you the tools to get the job done. I would and have recommended him to others.
cool dude
I really do like this teacher a lot. Hes very funny, very likable, and this is just a great class to take. Its sad to know hes retiring because anyone would be lucky to take his class. History can be a very boring class, but he made it so enjoyable.
sweet class
Great professor, really enjoyed the class, and learned a lot. He will be missed at TJC ,as he i
