Awesome! Best prof I've ever had. Web notes are very very good
Excellent Prof; kind, approachable, very enthusiastic about his area of study.
Good course, bad lecture hour (fall2002)
Excellent Prof, enthusiastic and interesting
so ****in easy
He will kill you on the final.... and I really mean it!
This dude is nuts... I went into the final with an A, came out with a C+. Killer marker on the final, don't know what to expect becuase it's the first time you'll see how his marking is
yeah! i agree. he kicked my ass on last terms' final also b+ down to c
Great guy, infact the best, untill the day you get your grades in the mail. I was sure I aced every Q on the final, got 58%!?!?
his enthusiasm for his area of study rubs off on his students. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of his midterms however, cuz the final is gonna bite you in the rear

Excellent/intelligent prof. Very skipable, the whole course is on the website. My only gripe is his exams; he seems to purposely try to give bad marks by having misleading/trick questions. It seems so easy and you leave thinking you got 100% til he tells you all the small technicalities that made the answers wrong. Tip:Always pick none of the above
this guy looks just like dr.house from the tv show house. very approachable, witty, and enthusiastic. adds in funny little comments and likes to engage the class in discusion so watch out for those keeners that will talk the class and not shut up because he lets them go on and on and on.... overall great guy and great prof.
such a good prof... class is skippable, make sure you read the midterm/final questions extremely carefully, they're tricky. don't let the keeners scare you out of the course the content isn't that difficult
he wrote the text that we used in class and he just posted each chapter on webct. he had powerpoint slides in class and they were all straight from the text and he never really elaborated much on the slides. he posted each slide on webct so going to class wasnt really necessary.
Don't need to go to class because notes are directly from the text and the tests questions are pulled straight from the text. Make sure to study details, not just general concepts. All tests are MC questions that can be tricky so read them over several times. Know the text well and you can get a very high mark on tests.
This teacher was so much fun! I love the way he goes on random rants. He's half cold hearted economist and half hippie. I loved his class.
Having him in ECON 103 is like a nightmare. I spent almost all of my time studying for this. Then, it doesn't really matter because he will not give you enough time to finish. The other prof in another lecture give their students extension after the 50 mins lecture. Whereas we only get less than 45 mins with his junk talk in the beginning of test.
A complete slacker who put up notes until the last min. Recommend you not to have him because the only things he does not slack are the midterms. 80% of the whole class were unable to finish their exams because of his strict timing.
One of my favorite profs at UVic. He's very clear, his exams (at least for Econ 111) are dead easy. He likes his subject, and you can tell, and he's always happy to go off on tangent about something interesting. Really enjoyable, fun class, great gpa booster.
Very easy class... just study the class notes and you will do fine.
Wow!! Amazing prof and interesting course. VERY helpful, enjoyed his lectures and witty sense of humor. About time economics recognizes the environment! Course material is non technical and easy to understand. Prof is very clear and uses various tools in his teaching. A high grade can be achieved as long as you go over his slides online.. :)
Awesome teacher. Covers the course material extremely well in the lectures. He knows how to keep the class interested by throwing in some crazy Australian words now and then. He is passionate about what he teaches and is extremely open to questions during the lecture, without shutting you down. Overall excellent clarity and funny teacher.
what would you get if you crossed steve irwin with a econ prof... peter kennedy! this guy is great. class was easy, not mandatory. just read the slides and do the practice questions religiously and an A is yours! great humour and adds a lot of flavour when he goes on his tangents to a somewhat boring topic
Good prof, very easy exams just go through the notes and go through ALL review questions and your set. Attendance isnt necessary, you can teach yourself, but his lectures are interesting.
Kennedy is a beauty. This course was created by him, as was the text, so you know he is passionate. A very interesting and fun GPA booster.
Great teacher, had a good sense of humour and put on interesting spin on even the dullest topics. Make sure to do the practice questions, most likely half of them will be on the exam.
Great Professor. Manages to make the most dull topics somewhat humorous. Even better I haven't seen him be asked a question he couldn't answer yet. He writes his own course materials which are some of the best I've read in university. Its easy to do well in his class with even a minor amount of studying since his course materials are so helpful.
Amazing Prof! Loved the class and Kennedy made it so interesting I didn't want to skip
This prof is a model for how to move away from expensive textbooks-the course material is just online practice questions and power points. He is a definite GPA booster but in a good way-you actually learn the material. Lectures are engaging and WORTH attending. Not many profs are easy, interesting and rigorous. Do the practice Q's and your set.
so easy! review his past tests and you'll do fine. he doesn't change the questions or answers
easy class , finds a way to make the class interesting. great accent. This class should be an A and if it isnt, you are not smart.
Smartest Prof I've ever had. His in class materials are easy to read, but brilliant at the same time. Good looking guy too.
He is an incredibly intelligent dude. Ballin accent, knows his material cold, and can't be stumped by questions in class. To ace his tests you just have read his slides and have a brain. He's also a pretty sexy guy.
This class is not only interesting, but it's also a great GPA booster! Kennedy is an amazing teacher and I will definitly be taking another course with him. The only text is his own, found online, and you only have to write one of them midterms. I would definitly recommend this course!
Best professor i've had in my 4 years at Uvic. Very bright guy. Highly recommend taking a class of his if given the opportunity.
Easily one of the best profs at UVIC. Did very well in both this class and another that he taught - ECON113. Highly recommended, very smart and charismatic. Go Kennedy - I liked hearing about the stuff going on in his life. When the class gets dull, he will go off on a tangent, which is refreshing. GREAT PROF KICK!@#
Best economics prof there is. Class is incredibly easy and useful. Low level of work required in order to understand the concepts.
sooooooooo easy!
Really great professor who really wants his students to exceed in his course.
It should be a UVic requirement to take a class by Peter Kennedy. He is the most rational person I have ever met, with an absolute gift for expressing concepts in a lecture. Take ANY class you can with this man!
Awesome prof. His lectures are very clear and interesting, but mostly follow the notes. The spontaneous lectures on current events are the best. Exams were easy. If you have an interest in economics, you must take a class with Kennedy.
Dr. Kennedy is an incredibly smart guy. I kind of wish the class was a little harder (so I would feel like I learned more/better prepared for grad school).
Kinda boring, but he knows what he's talkin about.
Phenomenal prof. Am not an econ major, but he somehow made the most mundane topics interesting, and without a doubt the most rational prof I have ever delt with. Good humour and explains everything perfectly. Maybe don't reccomend the course so much, but defs the prof. What more profs should aim for.
An amazing professor! I would definitely recommend his classes to anyone interested in some new knowledge and an occasional laugh. I didn't have very much interest in economics prior to taking his econ 111 class but I left the final feeling like I had learned a different take on the role of economics in our society.
Funny, nice, and reasonable. Do the review questions & old exams and you're golden. Attendance isn't necessary, but if you do go, you get a bit of environmentalism and a bit of economics; it's a good mix. He seems to be a pretty rational decision maker. Makes a great elective or 5th course for a semester. I would definitely recommend him as a prof.
This little guy is awesome. He provides a fair workload and tests are easy to ace if you review past exams (memorize the answers, they're practically identical). Peter is knowledgeable and witty. Attendance not mandatory, but his cute little jokes made the class interesting. Great class!
One of my favourite economics teachers at UVic! Very clear and friendly.
Peter Kennedy, the man the legend
LOVE HIM! seriously best teacher at uvic, and cute accent too. finished the final in 18 minutes
Great prof, easy to understand, makes the class a breeze. You wouldn't think econ would be interesting. Take econ111 or 113 with him if you need an easy elective. Do past exams/review questions and you're golden, SERIOUSLY. finished the final of 70 questions in less than 20 minutes. Midterms same idea. Class not mandatory but it was interesting!
Don't believe the other posters. Kennedy is an amazing prof who will help you understand the material, and teach you to think, but you STILL HAVE TO WORK FOR YOUR GRADES in his classes. If your lazy and expect high marks DONT come to UVic. Great Class if you work at it though, highly recommend this prof
Profs like this are why I chose UVic...Ammmazinggg. Take his class, you will learn a lot!
Best Prof ever! Class wasn't mandatory but I went anyways just to listen to him. He is so interesting and really knows his stuff and keeps up with current events. I wish all classes were this interesting!
Very funny, intelligent, and knowledgeable professor. My favorite prof this term despite having talked to him only once. His lectures style is consistent the whole year (overhead slides, no textbook) but is genuinely interesting and relatable to current events. Would highly recommend.
Great prof, probably the best I've had at UVic. One of the most rational men you'll ever meet who knows the material he's teaching very well. Lectures are not mandatory but it's worth coming just to hear the man speak. This course is set up for you to succeed, two very straight forward MC midterms and a simple final. Take this class (and 113)!
Peter is a smart gay, very good at teaching, although the midterm is not hard, final needs to pay more time on it, you will get an A average
Great Prof. Lectures are not mandatory, but are interesting and will help for final. Midterms are fairly straight forward, and an A is very manageable. However, the final is a bit tougher. Studying old midterms will no longer make you get an A.
Peter Kennedy can not be adequately described in 350 characters. He is a genius among his colleagues. A dashing figure in black. His knowledge is unparalled. He drives a god damn motorcycle. I have never been so enamoured, so awe-struck, so inspired by such a brilliant mind. He is Peter Kennedy: the man, the legend.
Class is very easy and not mandatory although he does mention things that help with midterms/exams from time to time. Midterms/exams are all BS... he intentionally asks very misleading questions. Very frustrating to get 90-100% on alll the practice exams and then get >70% on the midterms...
Easy enough class, horrible mid-terms, with some (A-D) multiple choice questions that less than 15% of the class got right. Even if you know all the material, exams will trick you with a quarter of the questions resulting in a "none of the above answer". Great guy, dressed black on black on black everyday. Interesting material.
Econ111 HAD the reputation of being easy. But, he posts old tests online and they are dramatically easier than this year and last year's tests. The midterms this year were filled with trick questions and a few obscure ones based on lectures. He is not even testing if you know the material. He had to scale the 2nd midterm because of the low avg.
peter is awesome, i rally enjoyed his class, i have decided to be an econ major because of his class, he is quite monotone but if you find the material interesting its easy to get a good mark in the class.
This class wasn't the easy A i thought it would be. The material is dry and it seems like it's there to confuse us. The midterms were ridiculous. The material was nothing like the practice and most questions were more a test of the english language than the material. With a final worth 50%, all i can say is good luck.
Midterms are scaled at 50% but best of 2 is taken which is nice. If you study the online text book and go over past exams like mad then you will get an A. Tougher course than expected though. Material is dry, over-repeated, and I have never yawned so much in a class.
Peter was an excellent professor. His spoken English was flawless. There was never a moment where I did not understand a concept after he explained it, and I never heard him make a verbal error. This class is not an easy A, but if you really take the time to study and discuss the ideas with him during office hours, you will get an A (I did).
Ive only had him for 3 weeks so far and by far best prof ever had! highly recomended
Amazing prof and very interesting course. Easy A if you attend classes regularly.
After attending my first lecture I had to stop and question the origins of the magnificent creation known as PK. A God among men. Often thought of as the Da Vinci, or Galileo of our time this man, nay, Beauty, makes Stephen Hawking look like a 5 year old school girl. The hero Uvic needs, not the one it deserves. Peter Kennedy: The man, the legend.
If you can imagine Dr. House combined with Sherlock Holmes dressed like a bad guy in a western, you then have somebody who is very much but not QUITE like Peter Kennedy. The rarest of professors who likes students not to do what everyone else is doing, to question PC lingo, and actually think
Unfortunately words cannot articulate the intellectual prowess of this man. His caliber of intelligence capsizes all others. This course is not easy but an A is very manageable. Steps to success: 1. Do the practice tests & questions. 2. Then do them again. 3. Then do them again after you've done them. 4. Return to step #1 and repeat. :)Best teacher
One of my favorite! He made ECON interesting. He has his own arguments regarding various matters and he explains them well. Class is fun and active. Love him!
Peter Kennedy is amazing. Enjoyed every minute or every class. The material is strait forward and is interesting so it is easy to get motivated to learn. Do the practice exams online and review them several times and you should be set for an A. He modifies the practice exam questions for the real exam. One of the smartest people and best profs.
Peter is just the best. Hilarious and insightful. I will definitely keep an eye out for his courses int he future.
Peter is incredibly knowledgeable about environmental economics. Every class I am left dumbfounded by the plethora of concepts he throws our way. Midterms are surprisingly easy. Side note - Peter can be a bit of a snob, once he blatantly insulted all art majors in lecture. However, it was not without reason. Entertaining class to say the least...
There is absolutely no homework and your entire grade is based off your best score of two multiple choice and the multiple choice final exam. The exams aren't difficult and everything is posted on line so missing lectures isn't a big deal. That being said I found Kennedy to be uninterested in what could have been an interesting course.
Peter Kennedy is the man. Easily one of the best profs in the econ department. Extremely brilliant. Has a great EQ and does a good job teaching. He definitely makes economics exciting again. He always has great tangents and real world examples of the material he is covering. With enough effort an A- should be attainable for almost anyone.
Hell of a prof. Super nice guy, and cares about students. A+ for him.
Don't take this class unless you want to be stressed about it from day 1. Our midterm had a failing average, and we were constantly doing maple projects. Definitely the hardest class I have ever taken at Uvic, and he is a very tough grader. I've never had a prof less generous with marks.
Peter is an interesting guy, and makes the most out of his dry course material in lectures. The wording of questions on his tests, which make up your entire grade, are very misleading and annoying. The final felt like an english comprehension exam rather than about economics. But if you do well on a midterm and the final, you're golden.
He know his things so good. I didnt took 381 with him, but 481. Heavily loaded conceptual content. Take time to digest. Definitely kind and respectful. And he like complaining about business students "socialing out side door", lol.
This guy is great. He knows a lot and is very articulate. His lectures are awe-inspiring. He demands mastery. Tests are multiple choice, and if you don't read the question thoroughly, it could trip you up.
Peter is a great professor! I enjoyed his lectures a lot and I always looked forward to showing up to class. He has a great sense of humour which helps make some of the concepts less daunting. I would definitely recommend taking a class with Peter, he knows his stuff!
Nothing but respect for this old man. Good lecture notes, easy exams and good personality, take econ 381 with him, you won't regret !!!
Best Econ professor at UVIC. Kennedy really cares about the students which I have found is rare in the Econ department. Do the practice exams and you will get a good mark in the class. No textbook either.
Peter was awesome. His lectures were not the typical, powerpoint-based classes. The tests were multiple choice and exactly the same questions as the practice tests with the numbers changed. There was a final group project that was quite difficult, but as long as you can read a graph, you'll be fine.
Peter is definitely one of the best profs that I have had at UVic. His lectures are awesome and he's quite knowledgeable about everything! Make sure you read the materials and do the practice questions; exams are fairly easy as long as you prepared and pay attention to the wording (sometimes it can be tricky!)
He explains concept clearly, and you can tell that he cares about teaching. Exams and finals were multiple choices. Best prof at uvic.
A witty guy who genuinely loves teaching and cares for his students. Utilize his office hours get the most out of him. And if you are taking a course online with him, do switch on your camera! He loves to look to look at a human face while giving lecture.
Just study regularly and ask questions in his office hours. He cares about the students and wants to teach them clearly. So make use of his office hours.
Laziest and most absent prof I have ever had...
He's not bad, didn't teach much of the math during class though. His midterms and final are basically the same as the practice ones so definitely do those.
He is a genuine educator, one of the very best. He is great in office hours. He will challenge you, but he is fair.
lectures are super dull, basically reading through the PowerPoint slides, he told us exams are similar to the practice problems. however, I am telling you that they are not identical at all, I am not sure whether he is teaching economics or a memory practice class, testing heavily on that useless vocabulary.
