VERY EASY TEST...EVERYTHING IS IN THE REVIEW!!!
good but boring, test are a little tricky but easy
Dr. Li ROCKS!!! I wised I had him for POLS II (he didn't teach it this semester). Not an easy "A", but his reviews are great, & he works with you if you are having troubles. He takes roll, so SHOW UP!
He is a pretty good teacher, but I didn't study and got a C. I guess that isn't bad saying I didn't study the entire semester. Plus, if the class gets together and disputes a question on the test, he will happily change it.
He's a very good teacher, he tries to make his lessons easy to understand. I enjoyed the class.
He gives good reviews, but tests are very tricky. His wording is purposly very difficult to understand. His test always caused a lot of disputes in the class. What should have been an easy A turned out to be a B.
I had the honor of taking this professor his first semester teaching at UHD, and he is one of the better professors on campus. He will give credit on test questions if the whole class disputes the answer. Find him when you take the POLS classes.
Li is such a great teacher! Very fair and wants you to understand things - not just memorize. Very interesting and teaches you about China - where he is from. Funny, easy to approach, great teacher!
Tricy tests!!! But an EXCELLENT proffesors.
Very good teacher, semi-difficult tests.
One key thing is, being a foreigner, he understands when people can't understand him, whereas many others get aggravated. Of course, I'm happy to call him an American. Excellent teacher.
Dr. Li is one of the best teachers at the University. He has a great sense of humor, well dressed and very knowledgeable about the subject which he teaches. Everything he brought to class was helpful and geared toward the student. Asking him a question is always interesting and informative.
He is an excellent teacher in his field and I recommend him for any student who wants to understand government and politics. He is also very good in discussing legal matters and may be he should try being an attorney. Willing to help and make you understand and enjoy the subject. Kudos Dr.Li
I rarely went to class because he rarely took attendence. My secret to my two A's was that I memorized the test reviews the day of the test. He is a good teacher, but most of it is pretty boring.
He gives you all the information in a power point presentation but he is really fast. He doesnt give notes through web ct or email so its really a waist of time to ask. He makes sure every one knows he wants you in class. He has on his syllabus attendence not optional. The test is on the information he gives in class and some times isnt in the book
If you don't like teachers with accents don't take him!!!He's very difficult to understand. He gives too many notes on powerpoint and the tests are tricky. He could cut some slack on you sometimes. But normally you really have to study on your own to get a good grade.40 questions on the tests including the final.
Dr. Li is a bright, interesting prof. with excellently relevent stories and anecdotes. His tests can be a bit tricky, but at the end of the semester, he'll give you the benefit of the doubt if you've attended regularly and genuinely tried. I walked away quite informed on international relations and would recommend the class to everyone.
I really enjoyed Dr. Li. He is a great instructor. I you will be lucky if you fine an open spot in his class.
I didn't like his class at all. With his accent it was hard to understand and he would just throughly pass by powerpoint....if you know a lil of the government background then I think you'll be fine but if not I think you'll be doing alot of reading.
If you do not read the book at least take good notes and study them. Do not wait to the day he gives the courtesy review sheet to cram. When taking the exam, you have to truly understand the question and read all the selections because he likes to throw some curve balls. Overall, great instructor his accent is not that bad.
Dont know why someone said that you will be lucky to find a spot in his class. Only three peaple in the class i was in. He uses power point the whole time and crams a large amount of information. Very boring and hard to stay awake.
Excellent professor. He does not have the horribly liberal/socialist bias of some of his colleagues. He has lived under Communist rule and knows its horrors. I didn't have trouble with his accent. You must read, and have or get an understanding of the subject. No skating through. Multiple choice tests. Hates essays. My kind of professor.
Not so sure about this HOT rating, but I liked Dr. Li's class. Especially for a Summer class. The reading is easy and multiple choice tests are great. I don't know about the whole, lucky to get a spot comment, there's only about 20 people in my class. But Dr. Li's class is great for an easy "A".
I am not a big fan of Political Science so I took the second American Gov't class over the summer. Dr. Li was a very good professor. He always gave 10 pt curves on the tests. Seemed to always be in a good mood and excited about what he was teaching. I would recommend him. Stick to the reviews and the tests are fairly easy.
I was bored with his powerpoint presentation. I did not learn a thing in his class. The only good thing is that the tests are only part of the grade and it includes only multiple choices.
I hated his class. His lectures are very boring. He uses powerpoint presentations as his lectures and he goes way too fast. His review sheets are deceptive because the test probably asks 5 things out of the 40-50 that are on the review. Avoid him at all costs.
VERY fair. Gives extra points! Tests are easy if u study notes & review sheet. He will even have a review day & go over possible test questions which end up on the test! How much easier can it get? Anyone complaining is just dumb or prejudiced 'cause no other teacher will make it this easy for u. Made an A in Govt I & II w/him. I'd take him again.
Hard to comprehend his lectures at times. He often tries to be funny at times. Tests are tricky, but if u study your notes u will be fine. A great teacher.
He's really interesting. He talks about PRChina all the time, as he's from there. It gives a different perspective to Poli Sci.
his final was so hard, all the questions were not in the review sheet...if u don't wanna fail this class, don't take him.....
excellent prof. fair. you just need to show some effort.
He's okay. Made a b in his class, but for some reason I wouldnt take him again. I dk why - but i might suggest another prof. just because most college people are stubborn. Howeve, you do have to take some notes that sometimes might not relate to the reviews. Yeah- i dk. You do most of the work on your own.
very easy A. quizzes were a bit out there but does you no harm if you make A's on the tests. Don't be late! People who are late are annoying and shows such disrespect. Take notes! exactly what will be on the test.
VEry lazy
Best techer I've ever had. Very helpful, gives extra credit, and the notes are exactly what's on the tests/quizzes, so you've gotta be pretty dumb to not get an A or a B.
IN THE CLASS OF POL I THE PROFESSOR SIMPLY PUTS POWERPOINT SLIDES BUT THEN ON THE DAY OF THE TEST THE MAJORITY OF THE TEST QUESTIONS ARE NOT EVEN RELATED WHAT HE TALK ABOUT. EVEN THOUGH YOU WANT TO TAKE THE CLASS READ THE BOOK VERY DETAIL BECAUSE THE TEST MAKES IT CONFUSING. MY RECOMMENDATION TO OTHERS TAKE SOMEBODY ELSE.
The lectures did not make sense. The exams were poorly worded and only covered about 25% of the information from the lectures. Pleasant individual but I wouldn't recommend him as a professor.
Avoid him if you can...
This Prof uses powerpoint only. There are three tests, and whatever extra credit he decides to give. I found that just reading the book and showing up to class was not enough. He expects you to research some on your own. Multiple choice tests can be difficult to understand what answer is the correct answer. Take at your own risk.
Very good. If you come to class everyday and study the notes from lecture you will pass. Very organized. Might need to read if want an A because pulls couple questions from text. All multiple choice. Makes interesting with his growing up in China to compare to. A few pop quizzes for extra credit.
yeah, the reviews were not helpful at all. I mean I know you're responsible for all the material, but c'mon, don't trick people with the reviews
Has accent, but very easy to understand. Lectures are interesting & most test questions come from the lecture material. Is happy to repeat, clarify, elaborate and explain anything, just ask. Read the book for further understanding. If you miss a class, you'll miss a lot of info. Knowledgeable and well-versed in course material. Take his class.
Dr. Li is a great professor. He's funny in a 'Jackie Chan' kinda way. I enjoyed being in his class, allowed students to talk and participate. Quizzes, 2 tests, & participation. He's helpful too! I recommend him!
He's a fascinating and hilarious person and his stories about China make the class even more interesting. Highly suggested- GREAT MAN GREAT CLASS.
3 tests and 5 quizzes. Tests weighing 75% of your grade and the quizzes 25%. All tests and quizzes are multiple choice which is a plus BUT Prof Li uses extremely tricky questions on his tests. Meaning he will give you 4 answer choices and 2 of those can be the correct answer and you have to guess which one he wants. Even if you read the book you ma
Goodness, this professor is a nut! The tests are insane, BUT he makes the lectures somewhat entertaining. His laugh is hilarious! As well as all of his analogies about Asian/Oriental 'nouns'- He's not for the faint of heart, make sure you study, he's tricky.
His class was not good. I got a D. Hid test were insane and the review was nothing like the test. He gave pop quizzes so you were required to come if you wanted to pass. He also has a thick accent which makes him hard to understand sometimes.
Nice guy and inconsistent teaching. This is more of a Chinese Govt class.Tests are unclear because there could be several correct answers.Powerpoints do not really help because the tests do not reflect lectures or reviews.
I thoroughly enjoy his class. His lectures were engaging and interesting as he incorporates modern politics. Like most class, you have to work hard for your grade. Overall, great class.
Easy to work with
He is a interesting professor. Take him if you want to learn.
He's an amazing professor. I made an A+ in the class but I put in a lot of my effort. It takes some hard work and dedication but it's well worth it. People saying he sucks are lazy to be honest because to me he was very fair.
Pretty easy. Only 3 tests though. Gave test outline so you know what to study. Death by Powerpoint but it's not so bad
His lectures are clear. He presents the material that will be on the test, but like any class, you must read the book to get an A. He may come across as if he will not work with you, but if you communicate with him, he is amazingly helpful. Very gracious with a big humanitarian heart. I would take him again.
No textbook needed. Lectures are good, because information is clear, he tells you the important things that will be on the test, tests are based off of the lecture and are really easy IF you pay attention in class. No homework assignments, and an easy going professor who cares a lot about making the test questions fair for students.
He has charm, but his tests are so confusing and grades come from only those 3 tests. I was so afraid of failing towards the end. He offered ONE chance for extra credit, so take it. You have to be prepared to do some textbook reading if you want to pass. He notices when the class isn't doing well & makes sure to help by giving hints about the test.
I do not recommend this instructor at all! He talks about China non stop, his exams are not clear even if you take notes, read, his power points are not good. You have pop quizzes and 4 exams. If you failed the second you failed the course overall.
Honestly great teacher. Students don't seem to do much, and appreciate his class even though it''s really easy. Just listen carefully what he says, and you'll be good! Had a good grade without ever taking a note. Don't skip class or consider having already failed.
Dr. Li has a nice sense of humor and always include real life examples in his lectures to help students understand. The powerpoints are nicely detailed and are similar to the text book. He has a strong love for China and has 5 pop quizzes that he goes over, and there is review sheets before each exams. Easy class, just study
This professor is one of the worst I have ever taken. He is a nice guy but his teaching is trash. He gives an okay outline for the test but it doesn't really help much. With only three exams in the class that count for a grade you better make straight A's on them or else its going to be a struggle to pass. Also he is very slow at replying to emails
There are only 3 test grades, so if you do bad you'll fail. The class is super easy though, and as long as you get the power points and go to class it's an easy A. He has an accent, but it isn't too bothersome. He does give test reviews but they aren't very detailed so if you don't go to class you won't understand what it's about.
You need to read the book. The power points are not all that helpful!! Counts attendance. Only 3 tests, and none are dropped! Like 7 pop quizzes (and they're random). His reviews are not helpful at all yo be honest. And the tests get harder and longer each time. Final looked like a reading test.
He's nice. Accessible outside class! Do the extra credit! 3 tests , each .33% The study guides dont really match the test.
He is a nice guy i don't think he means any harm but his test and lecture don't make sense he goes off and talks about something else. Often times says to look over things yourself. 3 test only so if you fail one you probably will only get a B or less in class. Studies guides have nothing to do with test
Dr. Li is a great professor. He uses Facebook for posting interesting news. He also posts good reviews that will be over the test. The textbook is required, even though you don't use I think as often, the review for exams does have some stuff not covered in his lectures. Don't listen to negative, or moderate comments. They are exaggerated.
Prof Li is nice but I wouldn't take him again. There were only 2 tests and the final which counted for 33% each , a paper, and random quizzes - if you miss one quiz you don't receive the extra credit at the end of the semester. His reviews aren't very useful and he takes down most of the power points towards the end of the semester so save them
Learned a lot from the class and I would take him again. There are weekly quizzes over assigned readings from the textbook and articles (he gives you the portions of the book online) and you don't get to do make up work so you need to go to class. In addition to the quizzes there are two tests and 1 oral argument/presentation.
I enjoyed this class, Professor Li gives a lot of great lectures that are relate able, get ready to pay attention on class for the exams, no homework but the exams are a little heavy so study. He is fun to take. Text book is required but not expensive at all.
He talks too much but it makes the class interesting. If you're doing online, turn on your camera!!!!!!!!!
No homework, quiz every class, and every thing he said wont in the quiz, but as lone as you take notes for the textbook, you are in a good shape. Only a few tests, so every test are pretty important to grades.
He gets off topic often but other than that he gives no assignments, just read the textbook and make sure to download the syllabus and the PowerPoint's because he deletes them after 10 days. He gives quizzes almost in every class. He's passionate over politics but can get off topic and sometimes doesn't teach relevant things.
Positives: Really nice and sweet to students, provided some extra credit opportunities, and no homework, classwork, or projects. Negatives: Can get off topic during lecture, quiz almost every class, one grade in the gradebook (1 test) plus the final. You will need to use textbook to learn.
Want an A? Look elsewhere
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I took him thinking the class would be based on the information that he presented and however it was NOT. His quizzes are HIS OWN OPINION.
Had a terrible time with this professor. He writes the tests himself, and many of the questions make no sense whatsoever. Do not take.
SERIOUSLY, BEWARE, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!He is the worst teacher I have encountered by far. (In my life) His test are chapter books, and full of synonyms. He gives no homework, probably because he does not want to grade it. You will be teaching yourself. He feeds you to the wolves. I dont see how he is still teaching, he is a waste of money and time!
No homework which is the only benefit, but tends to go off topic, strict with participation, some of the things he discusses in the lecture class don't show up on the quizzes. Your grades depend on quizzes which are unannounced and 2 exams, one of them being the final.
I read good reviews before registering the class and honestly the questions on quizzes are based from his opinions also he went off topic every class. The only good thing was no homework.
He was probably one of the hardest classes I had this year. Its hard when a profesor only gives you quizzes and tests to make your grade. Theres no extra credit given to help your grade or any small assignments. Hes kind of rude about everything. You have to attend every class and his zoom classes once logged out it takes forever to get back in.
Do not take him, seriously regret it. He gives nothing but tests and quizzes . My class asked for extra credit and he basically made it seem like it wasnt needed. This is one class I wished homework was given to help your grade. His tests and quizzes are nothing about what he talks about. Everything is based on his opinion. I hated this class.
Dr Li was very Mindful that we were in a mini session. He gave us reading material and only assigned 5 papers ( 1 due every Sunday maximum 800 words) -Each paper was worth 20% each. I found him considerate. I was sick with Covid-19 and his plans helped me to survive. I would definitely take him again.
Honestly, as long as you pay attention, participate and put in effort in the class, you will easily pass this course. Professor Li is an excellent educator and I would take him again. There were few quizzes and tests. The group projects were surprisingly fun. Very open minded and considerate as well! Take his course!!
Most of the resources will be on Canva and may come from the recommended textbook. Make sure to read carefully and take detailed notes for his pop quizzes. There's no extra credit, so the difficulty can vary—practice and review the materials he provides. Use available resources since meeting him in zoom will be rare. Good luck with the course.
Honestly super easy class everything is online so you have to pay attention to due dates. For the exams he most likely tells you monday's when hes going to open it and the time but super easy. He also re opens the quizzesz if you tell him.
Professor Li was decent until mid-semester. He had four mandatory Zoom calls at 8 pm. His assignments were simple, except he suddenly became very critical of written assignments. He even gave zero credit for them. He doesn't clarify his requirements for assignments and then retaliates with students.
This course started easy, but became difficult after two months. The exams and quizzes were sometimes poorly worded, confusing students and leading to failures. Some questions are subjective, but students are marked wrong for expressing their opinions, which doesn't make sense. I would not retake this course.
We had 4 Zoom meetings that were recorded and showing up was a grade. Professor is disorganized, it bums me out the way his quizzes are set up and the questions are not clear on the quizzes, grading can make or break your grade. Drops a ton of information from weeks ago and then quizzes a month later. 2 exams 40%, 4 zooms 40%, and five quizzes 20%.
