he lectures everyday which can get boring, but you only have a midterm, a final and a report.
He lectures FOREVER!! His class is sooo boring especially if you're not even interested in religion but his tests are so easy. He tells you exactly what's on the test and even gives you the essay question beforehand.
he tells the craziest stories that keeps you interested. he's super nice and you learn to like him b/c he's kick back and doesnt give you a hard time. gives you straight out what you need to prepare for before any tests.
this is an easy class, and he tries to make it intersting. Some of the lectures are fun, others are a snoozzyyyyy! he gives some of the answers, but you still have to fo to some of his lectures.
This class was a piece of cake... I took this class 2 years ago... and this professor will by far be the easiest professor you will ever have! This class is also very interesting... it gives you different aspects of religion. This satify your GE requirements to take this class!
hes a nice professor and is interesting. its also an easy class. u couldn't fail if you wanted to. just take notes and go to the review before the tests. u'll be fine.
his lectures can get boring, but the class is pretty easy. there's only two exams and one paper.
he's a very sweet man who always tell the student crazy stories from the past. The class is very chill because you only have to take notes, and tests are easy too.
This teacher is really laid back and pretty funny at times. He is one of the nicest and most helpful teachers you will have. The class content can get dull sometimes but it is extremely easy.
Really great teacher. It's an easy class. All you have to do is show up at least half of the time, sit there and take some notes. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests the day before. Great class; really laid back
His class is kind of boring but very easy. He's a great guy and an easy grader. I didn't need any of the books though.
easy class
Easy teacher, and nice too. He basically tell you essay question for the midterm, and for the final, it's the same question (just a little bit in depth i guess) The essays for Midterm and Final are pretty much the same to me. It doesn't need to be well written essay, it could be an outline and some explanations. Books are not that useful
His lectures make you want to scream! He doesn't teach, you watch a lot of videos, he doesn't talk about things that pertain to the material and he goes off on long tangents all the time! This is the classic case of the lazy professor that has tenure. He will be there forever and he sucks. Yes he's easy, but you won't learn a thing! Don't take him.
Took his class using RateMyProfessor as my guide. Although it has served me well in the past, taking his class pretty much made me forget all the good experiences I've had using the site. He's super boring. I cant imagine recommending him to anyone ever!!! He does go off the subject and after hours of talking, U realize he really said nothing.
I love religion, but I didn't enjoy his lectures on it. He broke it down to less than what it was. I guess if you know anything about religion (itself, not specific religions) you will feel like you've taken the class before. However, if you don't this is an easy and semi-interesting way at looking at the world. The books were useless, tests easy.
lectures are full of tangents that do not pretain to the class. easy essasys and tests. good freshman level class.

not a bad class at all. he will give u midterms answers day b4 test. easy class
hes a cool teacher, he make sthe lectures fun and interesting. he goes off on tangents. he is soo helpful just ask if u need help. he is always willing to repeat something and yes he does give you all the answers b4 the midterm! as well as how to answer the essay...hes awsome!
rarely went to class... still managed to get an A. really easy teacher! :)
He Is easy. Just pay attention, and there will be no problem. I didnt read any of the books and still passed midterm with an A.
He's hilarious! Goes off on a lot of tangents, but as long as you come to class and take the notes you'll be fine. Didn't have to read the books... Gives the answers to the test prior. Only 3 grades, midterm, 7 pg. paper, and the final
He really likes to talk, about his life and whatever else comes to his head. Very easy class, you don't even have to go and get an 'a.' Kinda reminds me of a fun uncle i wish i had!
Dont have to buy the booklet at the bookstore bc class did not use it. midterm, 10 pg paper, and final. 10 pg paper (its not that bad). good teacher. explains everything, and best of all he gives the questions for tests... you learn from him.
you never really have to go to class. and the tests are super easy as long as you took notes.
Super easy. Do not buy the textbooks (even if you think you'll read them, like I did, you won't, it is not necessary). He reviews before the midterm, the paper is simple, and the final is just a repeat of the midterm's essay question. For more info on his class visit his website: csulb.edu/~plowentr
great teacher, easy class, 2 midterms and research paper.
Great teacher! One of my favorites!
He is such a great teacher. You dont have to read the books. You have 1 (midterm - MC, TF, Short Answer, 1 essay), 1 (10 pg. paper), and 1 final (two essays). He really prepares you for the both exams. He tells you the exact questions to the final 3 weeks before you take it. He is a very easy but fair teacher. I really recommend his class!!!!
DON'T BUY THE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great teacher. Very interesting.
He is one of my all time favorite teachers! He makes everything so interesting and he is extremely easy to approach! Love him, and the class!
Prof. Lowentrout is awessomeee!! I probably attended class only once a week but I made up for it through good writing for my Final and Fieldstudy and extra credit essay..take advantage of those, even though they're 8-10 pages, it's worth it and he doesn't mention it because you have to take the initiative! Got an A in the class and don't buy books!
Lowentrout is a wonderful man, simple but interesting class. You will learn, and enjoy his presence.
I absolutely love this professor! You truly learn soooooo much from his lectures. He is very helpful and nice =) I think his main goal is he wants you to learn so he's not too hard on you. I have learned a lot from his class. Highly recommend him!!
the subject is dry, but he does his best to get you a passing grade. one midterm, one final (two essay questions but they are easy topics), and a 8 page paper. easy grader and nice man. i suggest taking him
Very easy and fairly interesting class. Prof Lowentrout is a very nice man. his lectures are very clear. he just gives u a nice scope of the major world religions. Fairly easy tests, and one field project. You should be able to pull off an A no problem
the class is very easy! as long as you go and take notes you will have absolutely no problem. but dont bother to buy the books! although i bought them and started reading, it turned out to be pointless because he only tests you on his lecture material. he is oddly funny and paul, his assistant, is awesome! go to paul's review sessions!
this class was kinda boring, but prof.lowentrout is a very nice man who knows what he's talking about. just attend class and take notes and you'll be fine! i didn't even use the books at all. there is one midterm (1 essay/ mult choice) , a fieldwork paper (10 pages), and a final (2 essay questions that he gives you beforehand). easy class!
Kind of a character. Highly intelligent, yet funny and spastic. Rly no need to buy the books he says to!! There r only 3 multiple ch about them on test worth 100pnts. Mostly essay. The final consists of 2 essays. Easy A!!!
Super nice older man. Very easy grader, the final is MC and he asks you to read a novel, but then gives you the info from it for the mt. I wish that he let his TA teach the class, he was extremely hot and much more interesting. Lowentrout was more interested in teaching martial arts than religion. If you go to class and take notes you'll do great
He is a quirky, smart, nice old man! You can tell he is very passionate about what he is teaching. He does funny martial arts movements in class. He tells you what is on the test basically. It is an easy A if you study. Taking notes in class is a must. He does post up helpful course material on his website. One midterm. One final. One 8-10 pg essay
His voice is a little soft but he's funny, smart, and interesting. He'll do some martial arts, tell you about his past, throw some jokes. There's only one midterm, one 8-10 page essay, and one final. Simple as long as you show up to class and take notes.
1 midterm 1 final and 1 field study. thats all your grade is based on. recommend it to lazy students just make a friend and get notes from them n your good. i didnt read the course materials but found it pretty easy. he basically covers the book(thats all the lecture is about). he talks too much somtimes and wonders off the topic mostly
Prof. Lowentrout is an alright teacher. You could tell he is passionate about religious studies, but sometimes he would drift on tangent subjects - like his ninja skills. 1 midterm, 1 field paper, and 1 final. It was pretty easy, just take notes when you go to class.
I found this class very boring, maybe because I wasn't every interested in the subject. He goes off topic A lot. Notes are necessary. Barely asks for work to get graded, just 1 Midterm, 8-10 pg paper, and the final. Easy class, just really boring.
Boring class, but you NEVER have to go so it's okay. Just make sure you go to his review session before the midterm and you will know all the answers to the test. Sweet man, really lovable, and helpful if you need it.
very easy class!!!!! lectures can be boring, but you dont even have to go.. i barely ever went to class and still passed!!! just make sure to go on days he reviews for the midterm and final.. very easy grader.. one 9 pg field study paper, but he grades everything very easily... you should have no problem passing this class
He is so sweet! One of the sweetest professors i've had. The class is not difficult. A lot of writing but there's just one midterm, one final and a 8-10 page paper. no need for the books!! i recommend this class !!
Dont buy any of the books - he goes over everything in lecture. GO TO CLASS. His notes will save your life. 1 midterm, 8-10 page field study, and 1 final. Extremely helpful. RECOMMEND!
Super easy class! You hardly have to go, only to know when exams are. He posts all the notes that you'd need online anyway, and the day before an exam, goes over what will be on it. Super sweet, funny guy. Highly recommended for an easy A.
This class was easy! 1 midterm, 1 field study paper, 1 final. Go to class to take notes, he also posts some notes online as well. He lets you know what will be on the test so thats nice. easy A!
easy. don't have to go. sweet guy. don't need the book. just feel bad that no one ever goes to class
Sweet professor. 1 field paper, 1 midterm, and 1 final. You don't really need to buy the books and class isn't mandatory but he would pass around a sign in sheet for 'extra credit' after he noticed that appx 1/3 of the class would show up for lecture. Simple/ easy class. My only complaint is that he lectures a bit low sometimes. Take this class! (:
Easy class. Attendance not mandatory or all together necessary except that he doesn't use beachboard so you would otherwise have no idea when tests are or when papers are due unless you go to class. Classes are draining&tedious and there's no powerpoint but he does post everything you need to know on his website, study that and you'll get a sure A
Very easy class, no need to study. He's very nice and cares for his student but his lectures are boring. Just do the work and you'll be fine, guaranteed A.
Easy class. Attendance not mandatory, unless to find out when the midterm, 8-10pg field paper, and final are due. He gives extra credit for attendance when we notices that barely anyone showed up.
Very kind and very interesting. He is definitely passionate about what he teaches and fills the lectures with interesting stories. Attendance is not at all mandatory, but I would recommend it because this class is very intriguing. Lowentrout is very helpful and straightforward, and has a warm personality.
Did not like this class. Don't even bother buying the textbooks most material you need to pass his exams can be found on his course website. Should you choose to take this class I'm warning you now it will be boring. If you think this class is learning about the basics of different religions you are in for a big disappointment. I don't recommend.
He is a great professor! You don't have to show up to class, but can be beneficial if you do! he gave extra credit too! At the beginning of the semester, I really dreaded the class but it got interesting! so don't give up on it!
Dr. Lowentrout is a really nice professor, but lectures can be long and boring. However, you do learn a lot. Also class is an easy A. You dont even need to go to class that often. You just need to go for the exams. I only went for important stuff. Don't buy the books, you don't need. I would take his class again to boost my GPA.
He is very kind, he is understanding, his lectures can be long and sometimes off topic but you'll learn.
Hes really kind, passionate about subject, & wants everyone to pass but it is boring and its hard to pay attention. Theres a midterm, a 10 pg paper, and a final; he goes over everything on the test so its not too bad. Class isnt mandatory but he'll give out EC sometimes when there isnt alot of people and you might be lost if you dont go.
Peter is super nice and really cares about his students. The class is really easy midterm, final, and 8page paper due at the end. Before any exam he goes over everything! Also he gives out extra credit for attendance when the class is empty:) Don't buy the textbook!
Took this class as GPA booster. He is a JOKE! Half the class doesn't come to class bc his lectures are boring as hell. You will be tempted to go on your phone texting others, etc. Doesn't use Beachboard or powerpoint, so the only way to take notes is listening what he says out of his mouth. 1 mid-term, 1 field study (8-9 pages long), and 1 final.
Class is a breeze if you like philosophy. If you just think relating religion and science is cool, take good notes and get some of the textbooks (make the exams a cakewalk). He puts up some notes online too so don't sweat it too much. He doesn't expect you to be Aristotle, but he does want you to be able to write 7-12 pages.
You don't have to go to class except for the day before the exams. So know the schedule of the exams. He gives out what's going to be on the exams. Everything you need to know. Ridiculously easy class. Easier than a lot of high school classes. 1 paper, long but very easy
2 Essays (7-9 pages), One in class essay. Easy A! His lectures are long at times but he has a grandpa vibe to him. He gave 4 attendance checks, but he tells you when they're coming. If you are okay sitting through lectures about religion and society for an easy A, take this class. He is a great guy and very willing to help you out.
I would highly recommend taking one of his classes. The material covered was very interesting. He takes attendance. Very nice professor, and approachable.
Take this class if you want an easy A. 1 midterm which he goes over the answers class before, 8 page field study paper really easy to write, and a final. DO NOT GET THE BOOKS.
Take this class for easy A. Class is so boring but just go and take notes. Most people never show up so he often passes around a role sheet for extra credit I think bc attendance is not mandatory. Prof is nice & cares about his subject. 1 midterm that he goes over answers for. His website has everything on it from lecture. 1 long field study.
i was very disappointed with this class. i didnt learn what i had expected t learn and it felt like a huge waste of time. the only reason i didnt drop it was because it was an easy A. his lectures are long and pointless. please do not buy the books
This class is a joke! Students would literally be snoring in class. He lectures in a mumbly tone that you can neither hear or understand him. Doesn't assign due dates and very unorganized. Most students use his class to do homework for other classes. 3 (7-10 page papers). Very kind man, but if you want to learn, avoid!!
Such a nice professor. You don't have to show up to class, just make sure you show up to the review days before the exams because he gives out all the answers. 3 graded assignments - Midterm, field report (8-9 pgs due at end of semester), and final.
Great guy! Lectures heavy but he makes it easy for the class by going over the midterm/final. He's very knowledgable about the subject. I always recommend him to my friends, not because it's an "easy" class but because the professor makes it easy to learn. He understands that college students have emergencies & truly cares when we cant make it.
Professor Lowentrout was awesome!!!
He is one of the nicest professors at CSULB, but the material is not interesting and he does not speak loudly during lectures causing some people to fall asleep in class. He also does not use bb, he posts all the class material on his own website. Don't get the books !
This old man is great! Lectures r boring & some people don't show up to class cuz it's easy to pass but he is such a nice and caring dude. He really cares and understands that students get overwhelmed. He never gives out hw, never took quizzes, and never had to read. He gives u the answers to the midterm at the review. Plus he randomly does karate!
A very easy professor. Gives answers to midterm and final. You have to do a 8-9 page paper due on last day of instruction. If you're looking for an easy A, take this guy!
There are 3 things in your grade: midterm, field study paper, final. I don't know how much each are weighed. He tells you what the questions are for the midterm and final so go to class. Prepare for field study paper ASAP, it might take you by surprise. You need to allow time to conduct an interview with the religious leader there. Easy A
The nicest teacher I've ever had. Class is a 7 pg. take-home midterm, 10 pg. research paper, and in-class open note final essay. Lots of writing but he feeds you the answer in the lecture notes (also notes online!). No mandatory attendance. Don't buy the books. He is very flexible with students but don't overdo it! Easy A for sure. Great Professor.
I took R/ST 100. All you need to do to pass and get an easy A on this subject is to read his notes (posted online on his website) and submit a field research project(8-10 pages). There is just one mid- term and a final exam through out the term. He is a easy grader.
If you are interested in religion this is a good class. Lectures are kind of boring since he has a monotone low voice, but the content is pretty interesting. Grades are two papers, one midterm, and participation. He knows it's a level 200 class and respects that this is not a top priority for most students. Super easy and interesting.
Good professor. You can tell he really cares about his students, and understands that they have lives and other classes to worry about. Grade is determined by midterm, final, and 8page paper, which are very easy to do well on just show up to the review session before the test.
Such a nice professor. His voice is a little monotonous, yes, but he is extremely knowledgable and you do learn a lot as long as you pay attention. The books are not necessarily required, but I found they were all very interesting reads. Graded off three assignments, and he spends an entire class going over the midterm and final. Very easy A and e
Professor Lowentrout is the sweetest professor! He is the most understanding professor I've ever come in contact with. I was ill for a long time and got injured during the semester allowing me to only come to class a handful of times and he treated me with such grace and care! His class is really interesting and is based on 3 easy essays. TAKE HIM!
Very boring voice, quiet, and some students will take advantage of this and speak to each other the entire class. That being said, SUPER laid back class, he gets the struggle of being a student and is seemingly lenient. Dad joke kind of guy, well polished and seems like a well-meaning man. Take this guy if you need a filler class.
Professor Lowentrout is an awesome lecturer. He is very kind to all students and is very passionate about religion studies. His lectures might be a little heavy however he does provide many films in his lectures. 100% recomend him. The nicest guy on campus.
Course grade is determined by midterm and two essays. Prepares you for midterm and does not grade essays harshly.
Professor Lowentrout is such a good professor. He's super nice, caring, and is flexible with due dates. The class was graded on 3 assignments: a midterm, research paper, and final
Professor Lowentrout has been such an understanding professor during these difficult times-- pandemic, online classes, etc. Even though he has due dates for essays, he's very lenient and will allow you to turn them in a few days later. Easy A class :) But you still definitely need to do some reading and of course pay attention to class as well!
The class is based off of three essays: midterm, research paper, and final. He also provides grace periods for each paper. Lectures are recorded and posted. He also has a website with brief notes from the lecture.
This professor is a very polite old man. you are only graded by three papers one is a prospectus two is a midterm and the third one is a final all these papers are super easy. Attendance is not required but he strongly encourages you to go there is no exams no quizzes and no homework. he does not respond to emails. Easy elective class.
Hes a great professor, no hw only three papers and the final was an extension of one of the papers. Easy class to pass
Such a sweet and caring professor. His lectures can get pretty confusing since he jumps around and tells stories. He does post his most important notes on his website, which is very helpful for the papers. Attendance is not mandatory, but its nice to see him happy when participation is high. Grading is somewhat unclear, but he is an easy grader.
He runs the class so that you can do it all asynchronously. He records the lectures so you can watch them whenever. There are 3 papers; a midterm, final, and research paper. He is really nice and helpful when you have a question and the due dates are very flexible. There are 4 books but you really only need the "Elwood" text and one other.
Lowentrout is honestly a caring professor that understands that students have other classes so he doesn't make his class difficult. Graded on 3 papers that are easy to do. One research paper(get started on it early so you aren't worried about it at the end), one midterm 5 pages, and a final +3 pages added to the midterm. Caring, and respected.
Super nice and understanding guy! Only three assignments: midterm, research paper, final and the due dates are very flexible. He's an easy grader, it's impossible to fail as long as you submit something. Bonus: he puts smiley faces at the end of his feedback.
He was great and he really understands the stresses of a college student.
The best professor ever! You dont have to attend lectures and his papers are so easy. He is caring and he gives curves. TAKE HIM.
Your grade is only based on three papers, but he is a kind grader and gives extensions for papers. He is very understanding. I recommend starting papers early though because doing all of them at the end of the semester can be overwhelming. His lectures may seem long but they are very interesting!
Easy class, posted all his resources online so even if you skip class you can still read and learn. The class consists of 3 essays (one of each is just a continuation of your first essay.) Very caring and will extend due dates if you ask although the assignments are perfectly doable with the time he gives you without being stressful. 10/10 class.
Super chilled class. Love him he's super cool. No assignments just essays for his class. He grades easy as well so dont be scared. - 1 page research paper - Midterm 5 page essay about the topics covered in class - Research paper 10 pages about the person you chose that ties with religion - Final essay 9 page of the other topics you covered in class
Professor Lowentrout is such an amazing and caring teacher. I took his class for a GE requirement and I'm glad I did because he is so understanding and will give you extended deadlines if needed. His class is graded only on four papers which are super easy. If you need to satisfy a GE requirement, TAKE HIS CLASS
A lovely professor and person. He truly cares about his students and encourages them to reach out. The papers are a bit difficult, but he is generous with his grading. As long as you take notes from the lectures and try, you'll do fine. He also leaves smiley faces in his feedback! An interesting class overall. Take this class to get that GE!
Such as sweetheart professor. Truly will never forget him, he taught us so much yet was super accessible and kept things short and simple. Take him if you need an easy GE!
