Marston is awesome. You will either like him or love him. He gives a pop quiz pretty much at the beginning of every class on the reading the night before, but he will make sure you understand the reading before he moves on. I recommend everyone to take his class before you graduate. You will get a different outlook on life!

He is the best teacher I have ever had and he changed my life and how I view the world. If you get in his class, come to class and it's pretty easy....if you don't, you WILL fail.

Prof. Marston is awesome!!! Great guy. His class requires you to do a lot of independent thinking, but since his exams are open book so long as you grasped the concept you'll do great. He really likes it if you tape record his lectures...he looks down on note taking...he thinks it makes you loose focus so that you don't understand what the lecture is about. He is very willing to help and is always available. I have heard he has a bad side, but I never saw it. I recommend him to everyone!!!!

Dr. Marston kicks so much ass I can't even contemplate it. He's definitely an "in-your-face" kinda guy, but thats what makes his class so engaging. I was worried about taking the class but after the first week, I was hooked. This Rhetorical Theory class is not an easy one. HOWEVER, Dr. Marston is one of the most caring instructors that you will ever encounter. Without a doubt one of the BEST professors I have had in college. I actually looked forward to going to class! The material is kinda difficult but he is very willing to help you--all you have to do is go talk to him.

Hard class to understand, but a great teacher. uses a lot of stories to back up his topic to help you understand. talks in the middle of the classroom so if you dont want to be picked on, sit in the front or back!

If you're reading the recent ratings and you're still wondering about Marston, then just understand this....when you walk in his class, open your mind and be ready to learn. You will start off the semester knowing very little about the world, and you'll leave knowing a whole bunch more. Hard to understand at first but you'll get used to it!

Marston is definitely an amazing teacher in that he really cares about the subject and his students. Come to class prepared even if you don't understand anything you've read. He'll explain everything clearly! Tests include a one page response to a question. I did the homework, paid attention, studied, participated in class, and got an A-!

Get ready to walk in the room and be confused everyday. Loves to help his students and is great at it. Really wants you to learn something, even if it is not the course material. Lectures are highly confusing, but it's a theory class and he respects others opinions. He does not grade on right or wrong. He grades on if you answered the question.

I have been to multiple colleges due to Athletics. I have seen every prof. in the book. Prof. Marston is by far THE best prof. out there. He literally is a life changing professor. The material seems difficult at first but by the end you understand everything by the way he explains it. This is my first time rating a professor and it is because i think that Dr. Marston should be a prereq. to take any class at CSUN. Not only did I learn about the subject but i learned about life. I was not interested in a speech class, but I have to say Marston made it really easy. I took his class over the winter and only had to make 3 speeches. Everything is lecture based so take good notes and pay attention. Got A's on all my speeches.

He is my favorite professor. Best professor at CSUN. If you want to learn about life he is the guy. He is amazing!!! Rhetorical Theory of Communications might sound boring but Marston turns it into a great topic to learn about. About 10 two page thought essays (easy), two one page respond to prompt style midterms and a final(easy), short pop quizzes after almost every reading. Don't skip class and don't be late, you'll miss out on info and quizzes.

He's a really good professor and he wants all his students to succeed. He's hilarious and a very good professor in general. He does however grade tough on the speeches but they are all only 2-3 minutes long, which is nothing compared to other professors who make you do a 6-9 minute speeches. His exams are tough as well. Would take again.

Marston is one of the few professors you will see get labeled as an extremely tough grader and yet have students wanting to take his class. He will change your life. Trust the comments on here. I had him for the experimental course "Communication & Death" offered only in the Fall and I have never learned so much. I would take him again!

If you don't want to actually learn anything do not take this class. That being said, Marston is the most standup professor I have had so far. I learned so much in 16 weeks, not just about the material but about life. At first he seems terrifying but then you come to realize how much he cares about each individual. He is so smart it comes off as arrogance, but it will take you time to understand his entire life is dedicated to TEACHING anyone he comes into contact w. You'll learn so much in 448, it's a must-take course if you're a Coms major. Socratic method teaching style, reading quizzes, 7-8 2pg thought essays, midterm, final n final presentation.

Be prepared to work hard. With that aside, Professor Marston is everything you would want in a professor. He might intimidate you at first, but he genuinely has your best interest as a student and human being in mind. On the last day of class, you'll walk out a better student, of this I have no doubt.

ive never been more proud of a grade than the ones i received from marston. i took 3 of his classes. he was seriously one of the hardest professors i have taken, but the one ive learned the most from. i came to class daily not knowing what to expect, and left knowing that i learned more than what was in our readings. do yourself a favor: take him!

If you want to be considered a college student, you'll take this class. This class is a game changer for anyone looking to become a better human. You can trust him, he is so knowledgable, wise and kind hearted. He is a jokster too, which makes class amusing. BUT, this class is college, prepare to do work, and learn a lot.

This class will only be taught again Fall2017, and then it won't. If you are thinking of taking this class in that semester, it will change your perspective on life for the better. He's incredibly knowledgable, but coupled with his depth for humanity, this class changes you. This class is one more stride for me on the road to being more human.

I'm currently taking COMS 151 with him and he is by far the best professor I've ever had at CSUN. He answers every question throughly and give clear instructions on the material. The class itself isn't two bad. Two exams and four speeches. Come to class and take good notes, and you will end up having a great time.

Proffessor Marston was one my favorite proffessors at CSUN so far. His criteria and lectures are very clear he is also humorous and transparent in a nice way. BEST TEACHER EVER!!! he is so hilarious. his humor probably isn't for everyone, but don't take him too seriously, he's seriously a riot. he's super knowledgable and logical too; he'll teach you a lot. he's really understanding, so long as you're honest and open with him about your troubles, he will help you through.

Dr. Marston opens dialogue that the academic system unfortunately rejects. We need more Professors like him at CSUN during this pathological PC postmodern nightmare. In my opinion, the best professor in the Communication Studies Department. This is the second time I have taken him, and he soars expectations. His lectures are very engaging, an excellent speaker, and the content is not too hard. I wish many other professors could follow his example. He clearly presented the skills necessary to learn valuable life lessons. Provided useful feedback on my writing. Engaged the class in productive discussions. Provided an appropriate balance between instruction and practice. Developed my ability to read and think critically. Plus he has some really funny stories, the man is a Jack of all trades.

By far the most amazing Prof. you will take. You have reading assigned almost every class but its usually 2 pages. Gives a quiz almost every other week but they are extremely easy. A paper due almost every weeks, but only two pages. Just show up to class and don't be a mouth breathing slack job and you're GOOD!

The best prof. I had during my 2 semesters taking classes in the com. studies dpt. Extremely talented lecturer. A level of integrity that inspires. Ideologically balanced course materials - he teaches everything from the classics (Aristotle) up to the postmodernists (Foucault) and gives them the same weight in his lectures & grading rubric.

Dr. Marston is great. He pushes you to learn and is willing to work with you wherever you're at in the class. He puts himself out there for his students. What he doesn't do is spoon-feed you. If you're looking to breeze through his class, you're in for a surprise.

The funniest Professors to date. The only Professor I felt generally cares about my well being and education. Also one of the Professors I learned the most from. BUY all the reading materials. You'll need it for pop quizzes, midterms and final. the 2 midterms and 1 final is open book and notes. TAKE GOOD NOTES. A lot of reading. ASK QUESTIONS

One of the best professors you'll ever take. He helps you learn not just the course material but how to think. He is inspirational and challenges your views so that you can consider everything rather than just your point of view. Doesn't frown upon anyones opinion. High recommended.

Do NOT skip the readings for his class, you will NOT pass the reading quizzes if you do. Great professor. He's funny, caring, and will learn your name. His class wasn't an easy A, but it's not hard either. Reading quizzes, two midterms, and one final. You CANNOT use the readings for the quizzes, ONLY for the midterms and final. High recommend! :)

Dr. Marston is by far one of the best professors I have taken. His class is challenging but he's always willing to help you out whether it's during class, email, or at his office hours. Marston is the best professor in the Comms Dept. Show up to class on time, do his readings, and engage in class and you will do just fine. He doesn't ask for much, just that you put in the same amount of effort he does. The readings can be a little difficult but if you have any questions, email him or go to his office. Peter Marston is truly amazing. He is there to help you succeed with workshops where he analyzes your work for errors so you can make revisions. I do not like public speaking but he made the class really fun. Midterm and final are based on the lecture so take good notes. Lastly, I advise you take the course over winter.

315 & 404- One of the most amazing people I have ever met. He teaches you so much, within the class material and outside of it. I wish he taught every single class in the communications department. If all you are looking for is an easy A, skip him. If you truly care about your learning quality and experience, take him. Absolutely amazing.

This was by far the best experience I have ever had with a professor. He is someone that genuinely cares about his students inside and outside of the classroom. I have taken Professor Marston twice now and It was the best decision ive ever made! Such an amazing teacher with extended knowledge on the concepts he teaches- always so accommodating to students and is more than happy to help you whenever you need it. Great teacher who actually cares about his students. A little bit time consuming but his class was fun and engaging throughout the semester. Tests are based on the question sets he gives every week, so study and ask questions for the two tests that he gives out and you should be fine. Pretty hard to get lower than a C unless you don't turn in thing

Martson's classes are always challenging but are so worth it in the end. He does everything he can to help you be successful- in real life and as a student. He's incredibly understanding, caring, and will work with you to ensure that you get as much as you can out of his courses. I can't recommend him and Theories of Interpretation (404) enough.

His lectures are wonderful he keeps it interesting with stories and his humor. He is also the most caring teacher. He truly loves teaching and shows it.

Dr. Marston has got to be one of the most passionate professors that has taught me. The way to succeed in his class is by really trying and by caring about being there. The workload might seem a lot at first but as long as you try your hardest you'll be ok. You will learn so much in his class and will want to have a class with him again.

Rhetorical Theory can be a confusing subject, but he explains it so well and makes it very understandable. Not only does he teach the material, but he teaches you a lot of life lessons. If you put in the effort and do your work you'll do good in this class. His lectures are direct and easy to understand. He loves throwing in humor. He is a caring teacher. This class consisted of several essays and pop quizzes. The midterm and final is an in person essay. Not to bad the work is mangeable just make sure to do the readings. The professor is very knowledge, but makes crazyy comments at times.

Really smart dude, super fun lectures. Took his intro to hermeneutics class and had to work hard for an A. Material is super dense but he does a good job of breaking it down in class. Not a lot of "busy work" in his class which I liked, plus he really knows a lot about the subject matter. I definitely recommend this guy, be ready to work though!

One of the best professors I've had! Confusing and philosophical subject but he makes it fun. You'll be challenged academically and also learn life lessons. Very caring professor who truly wants you to succeed and goes out of his way to make his students understand. Keep up with the readings, ask questions, and take good notes and you will be fine.
