Professor Martinez makes history very interesting and his exams come right out of his lectures.
He seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Polished, well-educated, and seemed to really enjoy teaching. Lots of reading, but he gives you study guides so the rest is up to you. It is hard, but study what he gives you and you'll pass. He offered some extra-credit too, TAKE IT!
Prof Martinez is a wonderful teacher. He is helpful, nice, and the class is not that hard. I'm taking the class on Saturday mornings and I don't dread it. He gives extra credit and the quizzes are open note, so pay attention in class and take notes. There are several quizzes, a midterm, a final, and a paper. I would recommend his class.
Prof Martinez was very courteous an helpful, he puts the lecture together so we can remember, tying the past to aspect of today's life. Not to mentioned he brought donuts to the class (I'm not giving him a good review because of the donuts lol) he reviewed with us before the test which was very helpful. Overall great professor!
Professor Martinez is wonderful at explaining the material and keeps the students involved. His lectures are open for discussion and student input. I would recommend Professor Martinez to anyone interested in taking history.
He gives you plenty of extra credit and extra points. Your final is based on your quizzes. His quizzes are open notes. Take good notes. He makes the class hard to fail. Good Teach
If you take his 3 hour class make sure you bring a recorder his entire class is lectured base. Has a power point which is just used for keywords. 5 quizzes, open notes. One Midterm and Final exam which he gives you a paper review for. One essay. His class was not hard he is easy to understand and follow along. Just don't miss class!! Recommended!
Be willing to record/ write every day. The best history professor I've had. He is super helpful!
One of the easiest classes I have taken at TCC.
Mr. Martinez is a very well educated man, well polished, and very organized. He is quick to grade and easy to understand in his lectures. I like how he presents the topic of a story. I think he is more than generous with his exam reviews. The lectures where very detailed and the power points provided a clear base for note-taking.
He is very down to earth kinda guy and his lectures arent a bore fest. I would suggest taking notes carefully , he will let you use them on quiz's. Even with that being said . My classes avg grade is around 74 soo.... its not a breeze
If you show up and take detailed notes you will pass with a high grade, Quizzes are based on notes taken in previous class or day of. The book is not necessary. I'm taking him for Hist-1302 My class average is 75, but I think its because if you miss a lecture you will not do good because its based on notes from the lecture and not PowerPoint
His quiz's and exams are based from his lectures and not from the text book. He sets you up for success so you don't fail this class. Quick to grade. extra credit is offered. I would recommend recording the lectures to clear up any misunderstanding when studying for a quiz or exam. Print power-points and use them for note taking. Will take again.
I took Dr. Martinez in the Summer of 2016. If you go to class and take notes you'll pass. His 8 week class was so much easier than a regular 16 week (I have some friends in his 16.) I got A's on all of my test and I got to skip the final! He loves what he does and it shows in his teachings. The only thing is he clears his throat 120 times a class.
one of the best history instructors at TCC. Be ready to study hard if you want an A. but overall he's really good and very sweet too.
There's nothing wrong with his lectures I just can't seem to pass his test and I don't like the fact that on some of his test he has us answer a essay question and it has to be 2 pages long I prefer turning an essay in for extra credit
Awesome
He's an awesome Professor. He explains things fairly well.
He is a great professor! The way Dr. Martinez goes over the material associated with class made History interesting to me .
This professor is hands down one of the best! I took him this summer, very clear and detailed lectures. Has a tendency to go a little too fast for me and regardless of the thousands of times I asked him to repeat stuff he would not mind doing so. You will not regret taking this class!!
The class is very well organized. I found the content relevant and motivating, but not overwhelming. I would definitely recommend Professor Martinez for US History. He is a great teacher and you can tell he loves his job!
Very boring class, He kinda drags on.
Im struggling. His tests are fairly easy since he lets us use our notes on our exams. His classes are lectures from start to finish. Hard online inquisitives, many of them too. He's sweet, and makes the class seem easy, but it is a hard grader.
This class was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. All you need to do is show up and take notes. Tests are easy if you review over the notes well. Also, he's very generous in grading, and even let the class skip their final exam if their grade was at a certain level. His lectures, however, contain a lot of info, so I'd recommend recording.
I took him for weekend class and the lectures were super long. I would maybe suggest taking him in the regular semester. He is very passionate about his job. I'm not sure if I would take him again. His test are straight forward just make sure you study. He does have quizzes.
You can tell Professor Martinez really enjoys teaching. He covers a lot of material in class and his tests and quizzes come right out of class notes so be sure to be prepared to take good notes. He is very organized and he provides an outline for his lectures before class so I also recommend using those outlines.
He makes fun to follow as long as you pay attention. I took his weekend class this past semester. I recommend using the outlines he gives, record lectures!!! Recording made it easier for me to go back through the study guides he provides for what will be on the quizzes. I was even exempt from the final exam because I ace his class.
I took Prof. Martinez for the spring and he was great at helping us understand the events we were discussing in class. He seemed very passionate about the subject and always answered any questions we had. Would definitely recommend!
Professor Martinez is a good professor! Very caring and knows what he's talking about as he teaches. YOU MUST TAKE NOTES. I took his summer course and it's important to attend every lecture. It's not hard but you just need to make sure you're paying attention to everything he says and jotting down as many notes as possible.
The weekend class was very long, at first, I struggled with the exams having a lot of stuff being covered, he gave you page numbers on terms for the exam which were helpful. I feel bad because of not liking him at first, but at the end he gave me extra credit to attend a TCU presentation and I got the A I needed. He actually saved me.
Loved Mr. Martinez! Interesting lectures & he doesn't give any homework. There is an easy quiz every few chapters & a few tests. He gives you a study guide for all of them. Show up, do the extra credit, fill out the study guides, record lectures or take good notes & you'll get an A. The book is absolutely not needed. Very laid back & kind.
Professor Martinez is one of the best professors I have had so far. His lectures are amazing to listen to, and he makes them interesting. He gives out a couple of quizzes during the semester, but if take good notes you should be fine. He's a very passionate person about history, so if you're looking for a good history class he's the guy to take!
Great Teacher. Gives clear information and is entertaining. He doesn't require use of the book, but important to pay attention to his lectures! I struggled to keep up with him at first, but decided to start recording his lectures- really helped! gave lots of extra credit. I did well enough in class that I was exempt for final. take him!!!
Dr. Martinez is one of the best professors I've had. He's very laid back, easy to talk to, organized, and really cares. He's a very patient and kind man and he was always well-prepared for class. You can tell he really enjoys history and teaching.
This guy is amazing, take his class you will not regret it. He is very nice and his lectures are very interesting.
This is a pretty good course if you like lectures. I took his class at North Lake Fall 2018. You need to buy a textbook for this class but I did not use it as much as I was thinking I had to. If you take good notes and participate in his lectures you'll be fine.
Professor Martinez maintains a positive learning environment for his class. He is very nice and very effective at teaching history. He is also very patient and is always willing to help.
I took him for 5 week summer term. He is a very good professor. Everyone says you don't need the book, but I believe you do. He goes really fast in his lectures that are not detailed at all, and the book saved me! Attend every class because he did extra credit every week! That helped alot. Overall, really knowledgable about history. He made it fun!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He is kind, funny, positive, enthusiastic, easy to listen to, fair, and timely. I definitely would take him again if I could.
I took professor Martinez for history part 2 during the summer and I found it hard to follow his lectures and get adequate notes for exams. The exams all have essays with an unclear minimum to them.
Good prof, hes funny sometimes his class can get diffcult but as long as you do the chapter quizzes and show effort youll be fine.
I took him for a Summer semester 1301 and 1302. He's a great teacher! He expects you to read and be prepared but he's really fair and a caring teacher. I would absolutely recommend that you take him for History. Just be ready to read.
Dr. Martinez is an awesome professor! Respectable and caring, he KNOWS his stuff. Keeps on syllabus schedule. Everything you need is in his lectures so be prepared to take notes. One book review essay and presentation. Exams do have an essay question but he gives you everything you need for a good grade. Possible extra credit in school events.
Hands down one of the best teachers at TCC. I took him for 1301 and 1302. His class is slightly challenging but as long as you pay attention and take notes you'll do great. His lectures are engaging & entertaining and he tells side history fun facts to spice it up, he is VERY knowledgeable. There is plenty of extra credit opportunity, and he rocks!
He's a good teacher, good credentials. Lectures are long, but he keeps them very understandable. Dr Martinez has lots to say about US History and presents everything in a very clear manner
Hes my fav prof this year. Lots of extra credit, great lectures and easy to follow, he made American history interesting. Dates were nbd! He wanted us to know events and how things related and influenced one another. Also, the online chapter quizzes were so helpful, I got an A because I did them consistently. Reading the chapters helped, too!
Good professor. Very knowledgeable and gives multiple extra credit opportunities.
History is usually a tough subject for me but Professor Martinez is literally the best HIST professor I've had. He really knows his information and you can see how passionate his is about the subject. 10/10 would recommend him to anyone taking a HIST class. He also gives out a lot of extra credit options to better your grade!
He is a nice and kind teacher. His lectures are good but he is a little too fast so you need to take notes very quickly. Do your chapter quizzes on time because exams are made word to word from chapter quizzes. remember that! take notes and learn them that's it. no book needed.. hope this will help.
I took Martinez for both HIST 1301 and 1302. I enjoyed both semesters. He teaches history and not his own opinion. The exams are based off the chapter quizzes he gives, so if you keep up with those then you shouldn't have a problem with getting a good grade on the tests. He also gives several extra credit opportunities. Great choice for history!
His lectures were very interesting, but you have to be a good note taker! Don't blow a single assignment, everything is super important. The text is optional, so just attend class! He learns everyone's names somehow. He was a tough grader, but through it all still took #1 as my favorite class. I'd take again, I just wish I got a better grade.
Professor Martinez is a phenomenal instructor. He will work with you if you work with him communication is key! He definitely wants you to succeed and will give you the tools, but you will have to do some work. His lectures are informative, provide everything for the quizzes and exams, and almost always fun.
I have an A. How? because quizzes are online and Tests have multiple-choice questions. Only 2-3 essay questions. cant copy paste essays. So listen to the lecture, you will learn some and do well in class. That's it. NO assignments or project work.
Dr. Martinez is a great teacher. The lectures were PACKED with information which was occasionally hard to keep up with. Anytime I had a question he answered within 24 hrs. The quizzes are easy as long as you do the reading. Tests are just an extension of quizzes and he grades essay questions pretty nicely. You can tell he cares about his students.
I took Dr. Martinez for History 1302 online, he's very passionate and cares about his students. However, get ready to read the textbook! Overall, he's very lenient when grading the essay questions and grading in general. Would recommend!
He required us to at least watch the lectures by 6 am the next day. He gave us breaks in between the 2 hours of class and he made sure we understood what he was telling us. He clearly explains lessons and the tests aren't bad as long as you pay attention. You should be able to finish test essays easy. The more specific, the better. Had him summer 1
By far my FAV history teacher. Around 4-5 quizzes before an exam ( the 2 exams are strongly based off the multiple choice quizzes) + two primary source assignments. He is interesting to listen to & always engaging yet not overwhelming like other history classes can be. Took him for both HIST 1301 & 02! As long as you do the work , you'll enjoy it!
Professor Martinez is AMAZING. If you stay on top of his lectures and take notes, I can promise you will do well! He offers extra credit which really helps as well. Professor Martinez is caring, nice, and very thoughtful. He has a lovely way of teaching and does not give his students too much work. The best history teacher I have every had! 10/10
Martinez is a kind and helpful professor who truly wants you to pass. He's always available for information if you need it. Writing heavy class. My only gripe is that his blackboard and lectures are a bit unorganized, but you get used to it as the class goes on.
Everything was on quizlet , he goes over the chapters in a lecture video Thats really long but informational (you dont have to watch them) and theres an 10 question quiz on each chapter and you get 8 minutes to complete it but everything is on quizlet even the finals, (nothing proctored) good teacher though you can tell hes passionate
Run, run as fast as you can. The reviews are lies !!! 16 quizzes, 16 DB, 2 mid term exams, 2 primary resource assignments (700-1000) and a final. The quizzes are 8 min, 10 multiple choice. The exams are 38 questions, multiple choice with 2 essay questions (150 word min) The text book is provided online. Gives study guides, but doesn't use them !!
Hes a very sweet professor that helps you out a lot, but his assignments are very tedious. he gives out about 16 quizzes a semester that are all 8 minutes long pretty easy. He is a really tough grader and counts points off on essay for any little mistake you make. Which isnt fair his point system doesnt make any bit of sense.
Dr. Martinez's extensive knowledge and understanding of the course material and subject matter in general is by far the greatest asset when taking one of his courses. His lectures are beyond informative and very interactive. I highly recommend.
He provides a lot of good supplements to learning. There is a required textbook. His summer courses are very fast-paced, so prepare to read a lot. He is very kind though.
He is extremly knowledgable in this subject, offers more than one point of view, BUT you DEFINITELY have to watch the lecture videos AND read the provided material in order to pass his test. other than that, 10/10
He's a nice Professor but his lectures put me to sleep and the tests make me want to cry. Study guides can be confused with a shopping list.
I loved this class. He is very relaxed and easy going but still teaches very well. The class is easy to pass if you pay attention and do the work. I really enjoyed his perspective on the subject. He asks good questions and makes you think. I dont particularly like history, but this class made it so much less intimidating.
You can definitely tell Professor Martinez loves what he does. Hes passionate about history and he gives great, detailed lectures. If you maintain good attendance and take notes, you should do well in his class.
Professor Martinez is such a kind teacher and caring. His class is not very hard, just a lot of reading sometimes. I definitely would recommend him!
I didn't receive an A because I was overloaded by my other classes, but had I tried slightly more than minimal effort, it wouldve been an easy A. He makes it near impossible to fail his class unless you just dont turn anything in. He's not a harsh grader on papers either if you're weak in that area.
I'm a little disappointed that I didn't receive an A for this class but I would HIGHLY recommend Prof. Martinez. He responds quickly to emails and grades very fairly on assignments like the Discussion Boards & 2 Primary Source Essays. The class is very simple, you turn in your work you get a passing grade. I have no complaints about Prof. Martinez!
Every class is a lecture, but he's passionate so they aren't completely boring. Quizzes and essays are really simple but exams are impossible without extra credit, which he does provide opportunities to get. If you get a high enough grade, you don't have to take the final and he's pretty lenient about it. Not bad, just be ready to study for exams
This professor is not for everyone, I've always been terrible at history so this was the toughest class I had this semester. Everything is graded fairly, there's extra credit, and the professor is nice. The problem is that there's a lot of information so you have to study really hard. Needs more group activities. RECORD THE LECTURES SOMEHOW.
Tests and quizzes were easy, because he provided study guides that were exactly like them. Lectures are definitely mandatory because that's were you get the most of the notes that are going to be on test/quizzes. I personally enjoyed his lectures because he's not just talking just to talk. They were useful for tests and informal.
Overall the class was ok. He knows the material he is teaching and you can tell he loves it. His lectures are long and fast so be prepared to record his lectures because there's no way you can write that fast! Quizzes were all online...easy! His test were the worst, especially the essay portion of the exam! Questions were worded very heavily. STUDY
I loved this professor. I took him for 1301 and 1302. There were 4 tests I think? And 2 papers and chapter quizzes. He grades fairly. In my opinion, if he sees you put in the effort, he gives credit.I wish he taught more classes so I could take him again. Extra credit available for going to presentations at school and in the community. 5/5
Prof. Martinez is amazing! His class is difficult but if you take detailed notes, you will be fine. He posts study guides a week before the exam. Always willing to help and work with you. 2 essays, 2-4 quizzes per unit, 4 exams with essay portion. If you are looking for a professor that really loves what he teaches, take Prof. Martinez!
I had Dr. Peter for United States History II, it was a summer class so the workload was a bit tough, however he was not intense with his essay requirements. Professor definitely knows History, he will correct you if you get any information wrong on your assignments. He grades very fairly and can tell if you've put in time into the homework.
Dr. Martinez is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable about history, especially Mexican-American history. He goes into great detail with his lectures. I really enjoyed having him because of his teaching. I honestly think that he should be at a major university.
I took Martinez for history 1301. He is a great person super kind. But he teaches a difficult class. His classes are lecture heavy and detailed notes are a must. Tests are very different from material. Reviews are not helpful, most of our class struggled. Must put in at least 1-2 hours studying. Not good fit if you have a busy life out of school :)
He assigned a paper, journal entry, and a quiz each week, which required lots of reading. I felt that the workload was more about completing tasks than learning. The rubrics for assignments were unclear. Unfortunately, due to late grading, I repeated the same mistake in assignments before receiving feedback, resulting in point deductions.
Dr. Martinez is truly a gifted educator. I took him for US history 2 (1302) and would recommend him to any students starting out in higher education. Most of his class is lecture based and he heavily uses the Socratic Method in his teaching. You will have to take notes and study for his exams but he offered a lot of extra credit. Amazing teacher!
Take him for if you can. TAKE notes!
He is a great professor! but have take a lot of notes, and the reviews did not match the test.
All of his classes are lectures, but he keeps his lectures entertaining. You can tell that he's passionate about what he's teaching from his lectures. He moves very quickly through his lectures, so I would recommend recording his lectures. Also make sure to take good notes for the exams!
Prof. Martinez was amazing. You do have to take really good notes to do well on exams, but he makes lectures really fun and easy to understand. Only 3 exams, 3 quizzes per unite, and 1 essay. If you study you should be fine. Would 100% recommend.
I took Prof. Martinez for both 1301 and 1302. He's an amazing professor who makes his lectures fun and engaging, he also asks questions that gets you to think. He offers around 10 points extra credit for each exam, and as long as you study for the exams you should do great! If you have an A in the class, you will be exempt from the final exam.
Professor Martinez is amazing! I took the minimester 2 week course, which explains the heavy workload. However, the assignments were not too difficult.
I took him for the 5 week session and it was fairly easy. He wants his students to succeed. He gives many opportunities for extra credit. If you pay attention during lecture you should do really good on the tests because he tells you what will be on the test and he offers reviews. If you receive an A before the final you won't have to take it.
Great professor, spends just enough time off topic to keep you engaged/have a laugh, but always keeps the class on track time-wise. The only work required is 8 chapter quizzes with 2 attempts, a 500-750 word essay involving the 14th amendment, and 3 tests that include a 2-4 page essay on a 886-E Scantron.
Professor Martinez was amazing. There is barely any homework in that class, so almost your whole grade comes from exams and the big assignment at the end of the semester. He communicates very well and responds to emails very quickly. You can use extra credit points on exams, which was helpful and useful. His lectures are excellent
The quailty of the information is there, the delivery is not. A lot of his prompts are nebulous in nature and its hard to narrow down thoughts when the teacher isn't giving you solid direction. This is a community college and having to do a 1200 word research paper on "whatever you want within a historical context" had me scratching my head.
I enjoyed Dr. Martinez's class. I took his Mexican American History 1 class online and enjoyed it. His class is mainly just discussion posts or one page papers you do each week. The most difficult thing was a 5 page paper at the end of the semester but even that wasent too bad because you have plenty of time to do it. I would take him again.
Professor Martinez uses humor and real-life scenarios to teach history really well. He puts a lot of care and attention into each lesson. You can tell he wants everyone to succeed, but he doesn't make it too easy. He sets expectations and then he works to get you there, but you have to maintain good attendance and pay attention.
He's a great professer! I had him 1301 and had to take him again for 1302! When it comes to outside of class activities, he always thinks of his students. You do have really pay attention and take a lot of notes but he really care about his students.
Dr. Matinez is one of the greatest instructors I had in my life. His class is mostly lecture based and is easy to pass. I really recommend taking his class if you have the chance to.
Professor Martinez was amazing; he kept the class engaging even while using Google Slides. His upbeat attitude throughout the course was inspiring, and I would absolutely recommend him. I would definitely take his class again.
Lectures take up pretty much the whole class. They bounce around timeline wise which can cause notes to get confusing. Regarding the test study guides many things are skipped during the lecture. SI Teaching was available in this class which helped. Make sure you take good notes. Tests are long. He does give curves and extra credit for SI sessions.
I usually am not the best at learning and retaining information for history classes, but I loved being in this professor's class. The way he taught the material and provided extra fun facts and examples made it an engaging and positively interesting experience.
History buff? Take the class. It is lecture heavy and the answers are NOT given through the powerpoints. It is a topic, i.e. "Christopher Columbus" and he will spend X amount of time talking about it. 3 Exams w/ an Essay, 1 Essay assignment, 9 Quizzes (easy, can use google). Good OVR grade = Last exam exempted Fun class but challenging. Don't skip
Dr. Martinez is amazing. Lectures are very informative. Professor is incredibly knowledgeable and great at teaching.
