Matsos was an excellent teacher. He was entertaining, and the class was fun to go to.

Matsos is an excellent teacher; he gives examples to almost all his lectures. If you read the chapters at home you almost don't need to come to class, unless you have a need to hear a better example...however, he does take attendence. I thought it was a very beneficial class...I have a B

Very good professor. He is humorous in his teachings and great to look at. It is not an easy "A" but with a little studying I got an "A".
Either you love him or hate him. I could not stand him and this is the only class I ever dropped out of all my 60 units. He did make the class interesting, but his personality rubbed me the wrong way. If you're a hard core psyc major, go for it, if not are are just curious, take someone else.
If you want an easy A DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! In order to get a good grade you must read the BOOK.And expect to write an essay on every test. Pay attention to all his lectures and read....u should do good if you follow all of the above.

Generally easy class. Read the book and the tests are no problem. If you want an easy A take up a ceramics class, if you wanna learn something take this one. I have yet to see an essay on every test, more like one essay the whole semester. I recommend this class and this professor.
I took Matsos for both Psy-1 and Psy-9 and I loved going to this class! He made it fun and applicable to your own life. It is not the easiest class, I've heard of other psych. teachers that are way easier, but if you take it with him and put in the work... you will learn sooo much! I recommend him over all others, esp. if you're a psych. major

He is not easy. He expects you to know the information. and he does not cut slack on anyone.
He is probably one of the best teachers at RCC. I took both his psychology classes 1 and 9. He breaks away from the boring lecture class, to a more interactive way of teaching. Everyone in that class will participate one way or another. He makes it fun and interesting, definitely worth your while...plus he's hott.

What an wacko!! On the tests there are 2 or 3 possible choices out of 4 as a right answer because he does not write them clearly. I hated this class, I feel as if I learned zilch, will probably retake it with a different professor just so I learn something.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. This guy so far has been my favorite teacher. His class was very interesting, and fun. I started out behind, but easily passed the class with a B. As long as you do a little studing, and prepare for essays on teh test, you'll do fine. He is very helpfu, and is the reason I am a psychology major.
I took his online class and enjoyed it very much. He grades hard though and you must complete EVERY assignement to pass. I recieved a B, although I thought I deserved an A. His essays are hard to do, so be aware!
This guy is a jerk! He is not helpful at all! I took his online course and he never responds to your emails or posts on the discussion board. He doesn't make quizzes clear at all and doesn't give you enough time to answer all the questions. I would NOT recommend taking this class with this professor if you can take it with someone else!

Very informative and amusing teacher. His tests are hard, but all material covered in them is gone over in class. As long as you pay attention and do some studying, his class is not too hard to pass.
please,do mankind a favor and boycott this guy's online class.his tests are impossible, it's like,the max grade u can get is 85(average), no matter how much u study.have to read ALOT.takes ALONG time to answer emails. when a website is down, he just says its working 4 him.he has MANY other flaws. it would take 2634936 characters to name them here.
Matsos has to be the absolute WORSE Professor at RCC. I have taken 23 online courses and he should not teach these courses. He is rude, unresponsive, neglecting to his students and is unclear of his expectations of the course. In addition to placing this rating here, I have submitted a letter to RCC from 12 students requesting he resign.
I don't know why people are giving him such a hard time. I thought he did an excellent job teaching. It was not an easy "A" but not an impossible one either. He is a nice guy and helpful. Take him if you want to learn, take someone else if you want a free ride.
Psy 9 online over the summer. Class wasn't too hard, but many assignments were unclear. He was difficult to get a hold of and, often didn't open quizzes on time(hugely inconvenient). Never met him in person. I didn't appreciate his "I'm better than everyone else" attitude. I am sad that I had such a awful time learning a subject I really love.

Very demanding class if taken during summer. You would have to read everyday and take a quiz pretty much every day. If you do all the readings, you should fare well in his class. The couple of times I emailed him, he replied within the same day. He made it clear, if you ask him something that's been answered already, he won't reply. Online clas
He's a good teacher. I had him my first semester and he was easy. His tests our straight from the book and so are his lectures. If you know how to read you can pass. He also gives you a study guide that is very helpful and exactly whats on the test.
he is indeed very funny sometimes, but it seem that he likes to talk about sex alot. buttload of work and stuff to memorize, if you're looking for an easy A, you're in the wrong place.

very good teacher, fair, and very understanding. i took the online class and my husband took the on campus class and the online class is by far easier. there is a quiz every week but no mid term or final. just read the book and you are good.
The class is easy if you read CAREFULLY and take notes. I took the 8 week-online class and it was a lot to handle as far as having a quiz or assignment just about every other day, plus the reading involved. Overall, it wasn't that bad. I'd take the semester-long class if I could do it all over again, b/c I didn't really let anything sink in.
Love him! Dont miss class, bring your book to class and read it, speak up in class, review your tests, and I guarantee an A!! He is really cute after you talk to him, if I wasnt married I would totally date him! Great sense of humor as well!!
This professor is the worst, I wouldn't take another class with him if it were required to graduate. He creates work that isn't worth points but will doc you for not completing the work. He doesn't respond to email. He doesn't want to be asked any questions (he'll doc you points if you as a question that he's already addressed). DONT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!
If you are serious about your education and have good study habits, then I recommend him. He is fair, and gives you work, so if you get a good grade which is not hard to recieve, you know that you have earned it.
He is fair and grades appropriately. You just have to pay attention to your reading material. He was very nice & kept in contact with me, especially towards the end (online class). Now that I read he is cute, I wish I took it on campus! Younger students want it easy, thats were all the negative comments are coming from.
Mr.Matsos is a wonderful professor his teaching skills are great. He makes class very interesting, and he has a great sence of humor! If you really want to learn the material you should take his class! besides he's really funny! and cute may i mention!

Easy class. Matsos is funny. He knows what he's teaching. There is nothing on the tests that isn't in the book. He provides study guides and sometimes notes. He's a great teacher.
Worthless. He literally teaches right out of the book, so coming to class is pointless if you read the book...except he takes role and missing too much can really hurt your grade. He doesn't engage the class and is incredibly ****y and rubbed me the wrong way. I called once and wrote 3 emails and he never responded once. Trying the online class now
I took his class online. I work full time-over 50 hours a week, and was taking two other classes besides this one and still managed a B in the class. He tests right out of the book. The projects and discussion posts are interesting. Overall an enjoyable and interesting class.
If there are any other professors for this class, take them. The tests are quizzes are fair and are straight out of the book but his grading on written assignments is horrific. People who can barely write somehow score higher on papers than students who have great writing skills. All in all, take a different instructor.
HIS TESTS ARE RIDICULOUSLY SUBJECTIVE, and that's all you get graded on so good luck on taking his class. He's so.. BLEH.

I just finished taking Psy 9 and it was extremely difficult. Mr. Matsos is a tough teacher. He does seem to be a jerk from the start but I think it's because so many students have cheated in past classes. Overall a very difficult class but a very infomative class. I have learned quite a bit. Be prepared to work hard.

Many quizzes online, internet project, essay project, a lot of research, a lot of work, very confusing questions that do not match with the material from the book. Confusing, and not helpful at all. It's pretty easy to give someone a horrible rating when you don't work hard and get graded accordingly. I just finished Psychology 9 and yes, it was hard, but I have learned more from this class than any other class I have taken so far. If you work hard and persevere then you will succeed. But if you just want an easy A, don't take this class.
Interesting class in the begining. Until it was time to take our first test. It was all based on vocab. memerization and different theories. Hes grading is based on 3 test, there is no homemork. So if your not a good test taker as i. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! HE IS EXTREMLY HARD!

Fantastic prof. Explains material well,loves his work, wants the students to do well,& helps where he can. Funny as all get out. Studying is a must. Does teach outside of the book,but anything on the tests are in the book. Sometimes he provides printed notes rather than you taking them, but make sure to flesh them out with your own words. Take him!
His test is really difficult. My GPA is 3.8. Guess what? The first test I took in his class is "F". It surprised me a lot. I seldom get a "B". However, his lecture is very interesting. I can't decide whether to drop or not.

This teacher made this class so hard, the material was extremely boring, he makes you look at all these different internet sites and even quizzes you on that. If you have a choice do not take this class.

Class is very computer based as there are internet quizzes and and internet assign. But overall he is very clear on what he wants. As long as you stick to your reading and go by the dates indicated you will do fine. The first paper is a little hard so make sure you spend time on it!!
I took his online Psy 9 course. It is not easy. I battled through it and got an 'A' but it is A LOT of work. His first essay assignment is tough! The second one is a lot better. There are lots of quizzes. I emailed him a lot with questions and he always responded back, although I can't say his responses were that helpful.
Gives study guide and often basic notes for each section. Fairly clear lectures based heavily on the book; occasionally makes slightly inappropriate jokes, but nothing an average sense of humor can't handle. Not altogether easy, but if you can do the work and use the resources he gives, you'll be fine.
The online course isn't too hard but has a lot of quizzes and you only get 15 min per quiz. Lots of reading! He also requires an internet research essay and 1 other essay. He is extremely unhelpful. He does not respond to emails at all. Comes across as a bit arrogant. Don't take him if you want to keep your GPA up.
I took his online class for winter session and I truely regret my choice. The actual material in the class is interesting, however, he assigns way to many quizes and busy work that all seem to be way too hard. He is not helpful at all and his grading is wacky. This teacher is impossible to please and doesn't seem to care about his students.

His lectures are interesting, and he has a great sense of humor, but he is really hot, which can be distracting. I highly recommend him. I'd take a class soley because he is the teacher.

This instructor is great!! He is a bit quirky, but it makes the class highly enjoyable! Points are earned through testing, and there were no written assignments except the extra credit, which was optional. If you attend the class and read the book, you will be successful. It is that simple.
I took Psy9 on campus and I learned so much from this class than any other classes. JUST DO EVERYTHING HE SAYS! Read the book, don't skip class, pay attention (no texting, sleeping, etc), study for the test, and you are guaranteed to pass with at least a B. If you want an easy class, pick a different prof. If you actually want to learn, pick Matsos
OMG!I took this teacher during the summer and he was so strict we had 6 weeks to complete the course and 33 exams to do plus 2 projects. He grades very strict, the class is int. but this is not an easy class. M. Matsos takes teaching very serious and there is no liniency here. Very tough, so glad its over, if I could go back I wouldn't take him.
I loved both of his classes. Peter is hilarious combining psychology with stand up comedy. He is very entertaining but still the ultimate professional. Peter does not put up with disrespect from anybody, yet he is so sweet - you can tell he cares. Plus he is super hot, that face, those eyes, his mind. I?d have his babies in a heartbeat!
I find this professor very difficult to understand. He gives lots of instructions, with very few details which is why he is difficult to understand. He needs a class in English and grammar as well.

He is extremely HARD. you have to dedicate 100% of your time to his class if you want to get a decent grade. You have to be their 100% of the time or he gets very annoyed with you. He argues to get his point across, and has a very difficult teaching style. STAY AWAY if you want a high gpa.
He is a good professor, goes over everything in class. He tries to make the class fun, dose a pretty good job at it. He sometimes prints the notes for you. The only thing is he is one of the professors who you need to go everyday for other than that he is a good professor.

I took P. Matsos for Psychology 9 (online) and earned a B grade. AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!! The instructor is rude, condescending, argumentative, and strict. Furthermore, P. Matsos is only an associate professor (grad student). For your own benefit, try to take a professor who possesses a working experience in the field of psychology.
He is by far the WORST instructor in the world and I have had some bad ones!! He tops them!! He is just horrible at conducting an online class!! You will not learn anything, he is rude, argumentative!! He leaves you hanging and will deduct points if you ask a question that he has on a FAQ page!! There are plenty of other choices!!
This teacher was very hard with his tests and material. He gives irrelevent questions on the tests and for some multiple choice questions there is no correct answer. Lots of questions were hypothetical. There was a test nearly everyday as if the he expected you to make the class your whole life. Do not take this teacher if you value your GPA!

He always adds a small lecture before tests because he doesnt manage class time. so the new info learned right before the test is in te test and half the time thats what messes it all up. I took his online class this past spring. More than half of the people dropped the class. His quizzes are pretty hard and you really have to read the book as well as takes notes on his internet assignments. Through a lot of hard work, I did earn a B.
Took him on-line and he makes his class very difficult to pass. He requires you to do an experiment that can't be made up or researched? Figure that one out, obvious that you won't pass that paper.
Never disagree with this professor as your grade will suffer. I earned a B fair and square yet he gave me a C. When I emailed him about the error, he refused to change it. I wish I had not been so intimidated by him at the time or I would have reported the problem to the dean to get my deserved grade.
I have his class online and even though I never asked for his help or contacted him in anyway I am having a little trouble with the class. However using google on the quizzes help more than reading the book!

He does not assigned homework. quizes are worth 60 points and there's an essay question. final is worth 100 points. His teachers are boring you have to read the text. if you don't do your essay question it will cost you a letter grade.
If you want a challenge, this is the professor. His lectures were'nt boring but he moves pretty fast. READ THE BOOK AND OUTLINE. And study the essay questions or you will fail. I enjoyed the class just because i like the challenge, dont take him if your look for an easy A.
I took his online class and it was very hard. The final was taken at school (no notes no book) and it was tortures! If you need an A I would not recommend this class.
This class is a CHALLENGE. It's a MUST for attendance, test questions are based on his lecture during class, if you miss out, you won't get the answers. Reading is very very very important. While the materials are either you know or you dont, it also comes from txt book itself. There are essays for the test (he gave 3-6 prompts so you can prepare).
Took his developmental psychology class online.I found his online instructions unclear, his quiz and test questions vague and his comments to the class' posts to be arrogant, rude and biased. He eliminated all of the joy I receive from learning. Not impressed at all. I would never take another class with him.

I dont recommend anyone taking his online class. Its extremely difficult. Theres also lack of clarity. I felt very confused most of the time and I was stressed a lot. Im not sure how he is in class though so he might be different as an in class professor but I dont know. All i know is, dont take his online class
Loved the course & the way he taught it! I wouldn't recommend him if you are just looking for an easy A, but if your willing to really learn at a college level he's great. Get the book but take serious notes- tests are based off lectures. I would definitely take him again
Online course is NOT for slackers! This is an intense and swift course. He is clear in what he requires you to do and if you do it you WILL do well. You have to use your text book and do online research. There is a lot of work involved but its an accelerated class. I do not recommend if you do NOT have at least 20 HOURS a week to dedicate!
uhhm i have mixed feelings, cuz hes a really nice guy but his class is really hard. he doesn't cover all of the material and then he just gives 2 points on the test to compensate. it doesnt do justice!! but hes not the worst u can get.
Also, mixed feelings. He is disorganized doesn't ever finish the chapters fully but does get extra points on the test for it. Read the chapters at least twice and always attend class. Didn't like him at first but eventually did. I would suggest him if you are not a slacker

I think he's a good teacher. Everything on his test is clearly in the text or in his lecture. Just read and study and you should pass. He's really big and student responsibility and hates it if you are reading the text in his class.
His online class is VERY hard, I studied my butt off nearly every day and had a solid B... But that was before the final; his entire grade rests on the Final (the guide he posts is misleading) and the Intervention Project (which is unnecessary) and his expectations are unrealistic. Don't take him, honest. Ruined my GPA.
I've taken Matsos twice and loved him. In reality all he asks is you read the book and pay attention in class. His lectures are engaging and fast paced and he doesn't require any homework as from reading. If you want to learn, you WILL LEARN. Nothing good comes easy, so if you are looking for an easy grade, keep moving.
As stated earlier online class is too hard. Time limits on tests too restrictive. Not much help if there are problems. IP project needs more of an explanation than the instructions given online especially considering the weight it gives to your grade

Don't take the online class, he doesn't give clear instructions and he tells you the consequences of not doing something in messages instead of announcements. It really messed my grade up. You really need the book, you won't pass without it. His discussions are frustrating, as he tried to prove himself right on each comment left by a student.
Matsos's class was very informational. He gave no hw and all of the tests were from the notes so attending class is MANDATORY!Tests consisted of multiple choice and short answer. He gives a list of 5 options that he may use for the essay portion but only picks 2. The class is not hard if you are willing to study the loads of info he gives you.
I tried to take this class online, and I wish I had researched his rating before registering for his class. His online class is VERY hard. his class requires A LOT of reading and figuring out what notes to take. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but his online class is very challenging.
I don't recommend taking this online course if you have a heavy work load. It is a ton of reading and the amount of time he gives you on the tests isn't enough time at all. Also, the final is HARD. It was mostly footnotes, not main points learned. Studied every night for a week for the final and still got a D. Very stressful course for me.
I had an A in this class based on my textbook quizzes and internet assignments. These are NOT easy and require A LOT of time. After the first discussion post which I thought I did well on, my grade dropped to a LOW B. I find it slightly strange that my grade was based so heavily on the discussion when the textbook knowledge is what should matter.
He holds you to a higher expectations than most professors will at a JC, but if you're serious about going far in school it gives you a taste of whats to come. He isn't very approachable, but if you have a legitimate question and go to office hours he will be happy to clarify. If you're sensitive he is not for you.
His class is very fun and interesting. There is no homework other than reading the chapters. If you go to school everyday and read the chapters,then you should be fine.
Beware, I find him very difficult for many reasons. His tests are too long, and he does not give enough time to finish. Being a Psychology teacher, you would think he would understand how stressed people become under pressure. NOPE, not Mr. Matsos because he then wants you to practically write an essay on 1 subject out of a possible of 3 topics.

I had this professor for an online class for developmental psych, and I found him to be rather rude in the communication we DID have. He's unnecessarily difficult when it comes to grading. This class and this professor was ridiculous, and I would not recommend taking him if you can avoid it.
The book is mandatory, there is little time for the quizzes, and the focus is on statisticssidenotes not general content. Mastos was unclear with grading criteria, bad at communication, and biased in discussions. The final is 45% of your grade. Expect about 20 hrs of workweek. I had already aced child development and barely passed this class.
I thought Matsos was a great instructor. He tells you from the beginning that your grade is earned in the class by work outside of class. I got a C on my first test, started reading & got an A on my last test. The book is essential. There's 4 main tests, 1 he takes off & a final. He's funny & is passionate about psychology. I would take him again.
Teaches at you more so than he teaches to you. Death by lecture, rarely allows questions. Illegible hand writing. If I could express my opinion of him in curse words on this website I would. You NEED to read to pass the class, so if you have a job... good luck. (He tells you this).
Peter is the best psych teacher ive had so far...I'm taking a psych class this semester and i always find myself saying "I miss Peter :(" he made the class super interesting and actually cares if you learn the material. I LOVE PETER3
Beware of this class, he will rip your GPA to shreds with a smile. Lots of reading, lots of run arounds, gives a hard time with discussion, final exam was extra hard and study guide not useful, and if you no time what's so ever on the test. I would consider taking this class on campus they say it's better but, I also heard different as well. So meh

Easily the best professor I've had when taking Psychology. He's real, doesn't try any gimmicks to try and be liked, and he knows what he's talking about. He covers material in class that is essential for the exams, however, you DO need to read a chapter a week, which honestly isn't that much work. He's a great and nice guy, and I'd take him again
Quizzes for each chapter 14 questions in 14 minutes. Even if you read you will get some wrong because they are meant to be confusing and have multiple possible answers. Sets expectations, but you are actually supposed to read minds because meeting the expectations for discussions is not good enough, he actually wants more than he asked for.
He grades tough. I was enjoying the material until I had to focus more on pleasing him than learning. Remember to never cross him. I offered opposing opinion at the beginning of the course. When i adjusted to his male driven ideologies of Gender Identification, my grade miraculously went up. Just do what he says. He doesn't hand out A's. Hot!
the class is online and the test didnt mach the book chapters. do not take unless youve taken the class in person before and really know the material adn his test dont have study guides and the dead lines are good to work with but you must read between the lines !
I took his online psychology class and had a hard time trying to pass. He gives you 14 questions with only 14 minutes on the quiz that is only worth 7 points a quiz. He is extremely hard and does not give any teaching to student interaction. Take this class if you enjoy independent study cause that is basically what is class is.
First online Class ever taken. Very hard with this instructor. No lectures. you have to study on your own. The quizzes are not reviewed so you will never know what you got wrong and why. do not recommend to take this class online or with this instructor.
I love Peter, his lectures really stick to you because of how interesting he always makes them. Definitely have to work for a good grade but he really makes you want to do good.
He will mark you down if you don't have word for word what he wants instead of actually retaining the material. His online class was unnessarily difficult. When emailing him, he is not at all helpful with answering questions. Take a different psych professor.
Unless you want to waste your time and retake this class do NOT take his online class!!! He is very unclear of his expectations for discussions. He takes weeks to grade and I haven't came across one person that received a perfect score on his quizzes. I held a 4.0 until I took his online class that I now have to retake, worst experience ever!
This online course was absolute garbage. No teaching. You buy the book and that's it. Ask him a question? 10 days to get back to you, well after you're quiz. He assigns these ambiguous, nonsensical online scavenger hunts for homework with NO clear goal or intent, so passing those quizzes is essentially impossible. His grading criteria is nonsense.
By far the hardest class . this class was more stressful than my english and math COMBINED. the quizzes are so hard unless you commit the book to memory and you only have a minute per question so forget trying to use a book. I am never... ever.. taking this professor ever again. I don't even feel like I learned anything .
This was the worst experience I have ever had with a teacher. His online class was bizarre and you had to read articles on the internet and watch videos and unless you remembered them word by word you will not pass. He gives you one minute per question on all quizzes, and you get the feeling he wants you to fail. Would NEVER recommend this teacher.
The professor's guidelines are hard to get clear and his grading doesn't offer enough constructive feedback that will help you do any better on the following assignments. You also cannot ask him questions if it is in the syllabus, because it will knock you down ten points. Like, are you kidding me? I was afraid to ask for clarification constantly.
I wish I had looked this professor up before hand because almost everyone in our class was struggling to pass and he is not helpful when you ask him question, in fact, he belittles you and your worries most of the time. There are other professors for this course, take one of those classes or wait another semester. Don't take this class.
I took his online developmental psychology class and it was awful. The course material in the book was very interesting, but he tested you on irrelevant material and not the main concepts constantly. Comprehensive final worth almost 1/2 your grade. Would not advise anyone to take this class from him.
This was one of my first teachers, and he was one of my favorites. If you pay attention to his lectures and read, his tests should not be difficult. I feel like this was an easy A class, but other people seem to think otherwise. I loved him though! His lectures were interesting and I learned a lot! Definitely give him a chance.
I took his online class. He's very.. vague to say the least. I swear he just sits back all summer and let the computer do the work. Don't bother asking him questions unless you're willing to lose 20 pts on your final grade DO NOT take his online class. If you still decide to then welcome to hell my friend.
I honestly loved this class. There was an exam a month and then a comprehensive final but he drops your lowest exam. The lectures are interesting and he always told funny stories along the way. If you pay attention in lectures and review the vocabulary in the study guides he gives, youll be fine. I never got less than an A just by studying vocab
Most challenging professor I've had at community college. Quizzes 1-3x/week; and don't think you can wing them because they're very detail orientated. Class was interesting overall. I wish the final study guide was less vague, and a lot of quiz questions seem to be less about core material and more about tricking you.
The RN I work with even had this same teacher for the same subject but I didnt realize until After I failed. Ive always heard online classes were more work but this dude takes the cake. So unreasonable when you ask for help & if youre taking the class online be prepared to have a mandatory browser download that will fail about half the time!
Everyone seems to be scared of Peter but he's actually a great prof. If you complete the study guides for each exam using terms in the back of the textbook, take advantage of sending him your essays prior to each exam, and take a 10 min glance over your notes, A's are definitely achievable. Very unique perspective on social psych.
Very grateful I passed however hardest class I've taken so far. A lot of the critical things I've read about him were accurate. I received a D on most of the quizzes ( there were SO many) and I studied each time. The questions asked were completely irrelevant to important knowledge and were on random detail of the articles.
He is a tough grader and the exams have nothing to do with the study guides he gives and also the questions on the test are irrelevant to what we go over in lecture. Completely ridiculous the way he grades, no homework, he did give some extra credit options. Rude and a bit disrespectful to people's situations.
This was a very good class and I would take it again. The only thing is that your entire grade for the class is based on the tests there is no required homework except reading the chapters. Make sure to study for all of the tests because while it is helpful to know the terms on the study guide it is better to review notes and read the book.
His quizzes are nose scrunching, perplexing and utterly detail oriented. It's based on silly detail to test if you read, but why he cant formal it to bigger concepts me has no clue. Finals are coming, what ends up happening is you have to relearn the concepts. My fault though, but peter, stop recycling your quizzes, & focus on bigger quiz concepts
I took this professor for a hybrid class and I respected that he was straightforward and consistent with the 1-2 quizzes each week, and 4 essays to which he drops the lowest grade of each. In sum, he spent much of the in class lecture being sarcastic and joking about stoners... regardless, the class was interesting and he knew his stuff.

The good thing is that the only homework you have to do are quizzes/tests (MAKE SURE YOU DO THEM!!), but you must use a lockdown browser which is a browser for cheating, etc. The final was extremely difficult for me. It was cumulative and there was A LOT of material to be covered. The book is mandatory and expensive (won't pass without it).
Sigh, I understand why this class needed to be tougher, but all of the quizzes & tests were mostly based on tricking you instead of TEACHING you the core concepts?! I'm so glad I at least passed with a C (barely). I had a B+ all semester until the final, which is cumulative. Dont take this class if you have a lot going on - he's not understanding.
he is very straight forward in the beginning and makes sure we know what standards we need to meet. yes there is a lot of work but i learned a lot taking this class. he does postpone deadlines so he is understanding and easy to work with. the final was hard but if you kept up with the work it would be a little easier.
I was terrified to take this class after reading reviews but was so happy I did. Its intimidating at first but once you get a feel for the test it becomes easier to study for. The book is necessary & I recommend annotating it so that its easier to study for the cumulative final at the end. Hes very funny and approachable and Id take him again.
I really enjoyed taking his class. He gives good lectures and is a all around decent guy. He looks for specific things when grading the essay quizzes but they are not hard since he offers to review a rough draft before the quiz. I took his Hybrid class and it was an easy class, to be honest, but I did not take it seriously in the beginning that's why I got a B. There were 3-4 in class essays (15 min), quizzes were online, and final test was on campus. He's always late and I found his lecture time useless because he just says what is on the book and goes off topic a lot.

There was no clear time frame for when the final would be until a week before. I skipped my work party to broadly study each topic in the entire book (as suggested), took the test on his original due date, and I received a very poor grade due to missing the small details. He then changed the due date after I had already missed the opportunities...
This class is no joke. Read the textbook word for word and take very good notes to use them for the quizzes. The professor isn't very organized and responds fairly late to emails. The final study guide basically says "know everything" and is pointless. I'm taking my final tomorrow and I've never felt so unprepared for a final in my life.
Worst class ever. The entire course is reading the book and then taking a quiz. You need to know every detail from your reading, not just main ideas. Tests are given on a program that times you and makes sure you don't open any other internet program while taking the test. Only take him if you are good with no direction from a teacher.
I only got an A because I worked my butt off for it. This class is insanely text heavy and the quizzes are timed (1 min per question). The discussion was pretty easy so just do your best to defend your point. And the final is 150 questions and is a large chunk of your grade so you might want to study a little bit every day so you don't fail. GL!!
He says in his syllabus that if you ask a question that he feels that he has already reviewed you get points taken off of your grade, so there is no getting clarification on things. I cannot believe that he gets paid to literally do nothing. Worst teacher I have ever had. All reading from the textbook and taking quizes. Final worth half your grade
The class is fairly easy as long as you work for it and take the quizzes seriously- actually read each chapter carefully. The lowest quiz and essay scores are dropped, and the discussion is pretty easy, just don't procrastinate. Overall he's a good teacher, always late and has fun conversations.
The quizzes (7points each) given almost daily werent about the main topics and became frustrating. So read every word carefully or you wont do good on them. He gives one discussion worth 50 points and the final is 150 points. So the class is basically a pass or fail. He also gave no PowerPoints or any direction so you just have to read the book!
BEST class I took so far. Yeah, you actually have to read the book but its college. Despite slow email responses, he gave specific details to what you want. I love this guy! He is not P.C. about things whatsoever unlike other professors here. No b.s., just straight up SCIENTIFIC facts. I GOT AN A! I recommend this to everyone despite their major.
Those who didn't like this class/professor just didn't want to put in work or were not interested in learning how much of our development is due to Bio (rather than only social stuff) He explained how studying only sociology is lacking. Here he explains Bio has A LOT to do with us. Psych9 has both bio+socio. Stop and learn some factual stuff 4 once
Prof. Matsos has a passion for psychology He's a funny person and lectures make sense with what we are learning. He will talk for a long time and get distracted, even after the time the class has ended. So, if your next class starts later on in the day it's fine, but if you need to catch the bus or leave for another class, I don't recommend him.
You will either love or hate Prof Matsos but it all depends on YOUR effort in the class. He cares about his students but DOES NOT hand you an A, he makes you work for it. Tests are comprehensive multiple choice and one essay Q. Lectures are informative, clear, and he's extremely knowledgeable. An A is doable, but this class isn't for lazy students!
I know a lot of the reviews do not favor Professor Matsos but I just finished the fall semester with him and really enjoyed the class. Yes, there are lots of quizzes and sometimes even twice a week. As long as you read every week and study, you will pass. Don't take this class if you're lazy and aren't willing to put in the time and effort.
The class work wasn't that hard, you just have to study, but I found Prof. Matsos to be a frustrating professor. He was often condescending and pulled extremely unenjoyable pranks on us to get the point he was teaching across. His lectures were often hard to follow as well. But if those things don't bother you, then he's an average teacher at best.
Cool guy , however gives you no breaks . Lots of homework and quizzes . Study , read and do the work or you wont be passing .
Professor talks a lot about off topic stuff , gives weekly book quizzes and internet assignment quizzes which are ridiculous and have nothing to do with the lecture . You get 1 minute per question . Theres no easy way out to pass the class . Read the book and make sure you understand it or you wont do well

Despite what the reviews say, professor Matsos is truly an amazing professor! His class isnt easy, but college isnt meant to be easy! His class is pretty straight forward, read the chapters and take the exams. He really helped me improve on my study techniques, and I felt to accomplished after I passed his class! Also, hes hilarious!
Literally just lectures and tests. You obviously have to read the material yourself which isnt the bad part. He doesnt give any additional work or practices and just expects you to know everything. If you cant learn just by reading then I do not recommend!!
Professor Matsos's lectures are interesting! However, I do not recommend taking his online class during COVID! If he does not finish a lecture or is out for a day he just tells students they have to attend on a day classes are not scheduled, and is almost always up to 20 minutes late. Caring and goes through the material, but unprofessional.
Took his psych class for fall 2020 and MAN do i regret it!! So condescending and rude! Tells everyone he cares about us during COVID and will reopen a quiz for an affected student, but his attitude and aggressive tone stays consistent. Lectures arent mandatory to join but its 1 practice quiz and 1 quiz every week. Will NOT be taking his classes.

Mr matsos is a great professor! If you miss class you need to make sure you watch the live lectures and make sure to read the book!! When taking his chapter test online make sure you take thorough notes from the lecture, he covers only a small portion in class. Hes really detailed about what he wants for you to pass, just pay attention!
I took this class online. I've taken 4 different psychology classes and this one was the most difficult and the least interactive. The teacher pretty much says "here's the textbook, goodluck". THERE ARE 0 lectures, no zoom sessions, no slideshows. JUST TEXTBOOK. The quality of this class is honestly terrible. Final is proxy monitored***

The only assignments in the grade book were these online quizzes that you can use quizlet on and the final . you can't cheat on the final since he makes you download a lockdown web browser but it was still pretty easy. I didn't learn a single thing about psychology in this class but I still got an A. If you like to cheat, take this class.
Not the best professor. Final is monitored and quizzes are timed, you get a minute per question, I feel like that adds stress. You rely on the textbook alot, lectures are past recordings.
This professor is the laziest instructor I've had. His teaching method is read the book and take a quiz(that you cant review). All the quizzes are plagiarized and his lectures are awful. Most lectures consist of useless rambling. His lecture notes are unorganized and unhelpful. Just use quizlet for his quizzes and final. Its all copied from there.
Professor Matsos is a great Psychology proffesor. Some people may say he is a tough grader but that's mostly because many students don't want to take time to read the book and understand the material. If you don't like to read then probably you will not like his class. Overall, he is a good proffesor and it is better to take his in-person classes.
You won't learn from this course, the assignments that were given were quizzes and were given 100 links to websites as well as videos that were 20 minutes long. The "quizzes" that we had to take were our assign.m and they were 14 questions given 14 mins, expecting us to know every single information through the 100 different links given.
If you take his online course, make sure you watch every one of his lectures, even though he goes off topic most of the time. Internet assignments are pretty difficult, but you could get a decent grade if you print out the info of every link he provides and write down every single word of a video clip he shares. lecture quizzes are easy! ;) iykyk

If you don't like to read then you will not like his class. However, the format of the class is structured in way that you will definitvely learn what social psychology is all about and his lectures are amazing. Not everyone will like him but I found him a very good proffesor because he has a passion for this field that is very noticeable.
All the negative reviews are true. Very misogynistic. One of his recorded lectures perpetuates the stereotype that Asians eat dogs. Chastised the class for not knowing what the Korean War was & sent a long email rant about how "America was never great? Tell that to South Korea." Final exam is worth 35% of your grade. Avoid at all costs!
He talked about very strange things in the recorded lectures and would not elaborate on topics. He was an extremely tough grader, especially for the gender discussion in class. He was not considerate in the slightest and would take a while to respond to emails. You will be stressed and left in the dark with this class.
Matsos is astonishingly unprofessional. How on earth did he get tenure? Shame on RCC for this blunder. Among the most bitter, abusive and acidic individuals I have encountered. AVOID if you are a minority and/or female. Luckily (i guess) I'm neither. Never felt so much secondhand embarrassment. Behaves like he's immune to disciplinary action.
I decided to drop this class because it can affect my GPA, he has like 2 quizzes every week and only 7 items but it 0.5 point only, so you only need 2 mistakes to get an A, or else you will fail. His quizzes aren't even in the lectures or book. I don't recommend him
Unfortunately, all I can do is echo the warnings of some of these other comments. I tried to file a formal complaint against him. If you are a woman or a person of color or LGBTQ, please do not expose yourself to this man. It says a lot about RCC that he is allowed to teach here. Somebody has to get him away from these young impressionable people.
Hmm wouldn't recommend. This class is only graded based on section exams, weekly quizzes online and in person, and the final. I'm fighting for my life. The lectures are only an hour and half but it feels like forever. The in class lectures are all over the place too. Be prepared for lots of reading too in the textbook.
Most unrealistic course load i've ever embarked upon. I am enrolled in the 6 week course, I understand it's expedited. However, Matsos has us reading one chapter per day and testing twice a day. The entire class grade is based solely on the test and quiz grades. No time for studying in between, because we are constantly reading the next chapter.
I took his online course for fall of 2023. This was an interesting experience. It was my first online class and I can most definitely say I would have rather taken this class in person. The class does make you question things, and I would have preferred being in person to ask questions when I had them, instead of having to wait for an email.
Attendance was important, quizzes were heavily based on his lectures/the book. If you are a student who doesn't read the book or stay on top of homework, this can be a challenging course. For more sensitive people, his comments may offend easily but overall, he isn't as bad as everyone says, just need to stay on top of work and be open-minded.

The grading is excessively harsh and appears biased, making it difficult to achieve high marks regardless of effort. The workload is unrealistic for the course level, leading to undue stress. Be prepared for a challenging experience with little leniency or support.

Dont take online, ghosted us from the beginning until after spring break. He only has quizzes, no discussions or worksheets. Just basically read the chapter and take the quiz that is found on quizlet. Not a great class overall. Tough grader when we got to our 1 discussion and the final exam you need the respondous lockdown browser. Not recommended.
I took one class from Matsos a couple years ago and sat in another before dropping in disgust last semester. My take: Matsos has figured out that he can game college rating sites like this one in order to discourage as many people as possible from taking his hostile classes, cutting his 'teaching' load while pulling a fat tenured salary from RCCD.

Took class 2x, sexist towards women.We were assigned a discussion arguing if men or women had it harder. First time around I chose women and he argued with me on my assignment as to why I was wrong. Second time I chose men, all us girls picked men and received the same low grade while all the guys passed the assignment. Don't recommend this class.
I took PSY 8 and am taking PSY 9 with this professor. It's not an easy A, the exams are comprehensive meaning you have to understand the material as well as memorize. This professor is not hateful towards any group, he says things that might be controversial but it's never disrespectful unless you're not open to other opinions. Love his clases.
Took him spring 2023 & what people say about him being controversial is true. At times I wish he would just stop talking from how bad it would be and the boy vs girl writing assignment was biased on his part imo. Putting that aside I think he is a good professor. Easy online hw quizzes , answers directly from textbook, & 4 writing tests in class.

DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Prof uses outdated and often derogatory references. Although a highly knowledgeable individual, he is unprofessional in lecture. All video lectures are recorded from 2020 + contain all of the student background audio. There is a discussion post at the end of the course where you will be graded on how well you agree with him.
I might just be "too woke/sensitive", but I would strongly advise against taking this course. Professor uses fatphobic, sexist, and misogynistic language (and more) both in lectures and assignments. Does not accommodate absent students, despite reason for absence (in my case, excused school trip w/letter from faculty advisors).

alot of concerning issues when it comes to the professors teachings. He had us respond to a discussion post asking which gender has it harder for a big grade. I saw the most vile responses from students, especially a man basically saying if woman don't want to get harassed by men then...y'know the rest. didn't like the timed tests also.
He is the worst professor I've had. He does NOT want his students to succeed. Must read the entire textbook as his lectures are extra. His quizzes have 10-14 questions for every book chapter but aren't worth many points so no grade boost there. He uses lockdown browser with video. He grades discussion on bias and instructions had over 6,000 words.
He would be like 15 minutes late for exams and then talk for another 15 minutes. He keeps phones in a phone cubby in the front. He was very full of himself and liked talking about himself. His hand writing was not the best and his notes were writen on the board. But he did round grades and gave many extra credit assignments.
He was my professor for the fall term of 2024 and to be honest the class itself is great but not so much the professor. I genuinely liked the course, but he would always leave for ten to fifteen minutes when the lecture would start, his writing is absolutely terrible which caused me to misread many things, and he would waste time before tests.

The lectures he gives aren't informative to the point where it doesn't even relate to all his quizzes and tests. He doesn't give out assignments for us to learn and only gives us quizzes and tests. I was excited to take his course but learned nothing
I wouldn't take this class if I were you, the quizzes are timed and sometimes ask really obscure or irrelavent questions to the topic. The discussion assignment grading is extremely biased, if you decide to take it, agree with his points instead. You'll get a crappy grade if you don't agree with him.
Professor is not really good one taking online even if I took him in winter semester and my actual grade went from an B all the way down to an F over a Dumb discussion post be warn that you have to keep researching for days. He also uses lock down browser. Video lecture are from 2020. Final is 100 Questions. I'd say report for unprofessional teach.

I'm disappointed at some of these comments. Peter Matsos is not racist, sexist, or rude. He's a kind professor that tries to reach students, but some people can't handle being exposed to differing beliefs. I missed several classes & an exam day & I still got an A. Just do the work, get out of this coddled mindset, & stop playing the victim.
I took this professor for an online course, however it was super underwhelming. There were no assignments for the class, just a quiz every week. There was one discussion post all semester, however instruction was unclear and confusing. He docked me for only doing the minimum required three posts, which I found confusing. Also it's a recorded final.

Peter is a tough grader. His lectures were entertaining but not professional, he sometimes doesn't fully cover the information in the text books. It's best if you do all the chapter readings instead of listening to him in class. It was difficult to understand his writing at times and he's very biased.
Consists weekly exams and quizzes in short amount of periods. There is a discussion post at the end of the unit, I didn't agree with his point, and he sent me a whole paragraph on why men have it harder. As a man I feel bad for the women who take this class because he completely dismisses everything women go through. Wouldn't recommend this class.
He is a child driven by both prejudice and bias. His test of both easy and forgettable; you will learn nothing but to hate this man. I have taken this class previously and gained value, but not this time. There is nothing to gain. He has assignments set to align with his bias, and if you disagree even in the slightest he takes it out on your grade.
He was so amazing. As long as you pay attention and take notes during lectures, it's an easy class; he's biased, but it didn't affect me in any way. He's very professional but isn't strict, and as long as you put aside an hour or two to study for SE's, your good to go
Do not recommend at all! Extremely prejudiced towards women and heavily misogynistic. Unable to teach professionally or use source material other than personally written essays for quizzes. Argues with and dismisses students easily. He seems alright at first, but other reviews were right about growing to hate him incredibly. Also dismisses racism.
Get ready to read alot every week, he has quizzes every week plus an internet assignment. Make sure you take handwritten notes. You do not need to watch the online lectures just read the textbook im being honest idk how i passed with a B as a psych major.
Very inappropriate professor, took his class a few semesters ago online. His videos were pre recorded but he would always make inappropriate comments and turn the lecture to an inappropriate way, asked a student if vibrating underwear sounds like something she'd be into in one lecture.
