he is super excited to be teaching micro. lectures are easy to follow, he writes down everything on the overhead and gives lots of examples. tests are fair and relatively easy. still young and a bit of a new teacher though.
He's a pretty good teacher. He's smart and he knows what he's talking about but unfortunately his class is really boring.
Fresh out of grad school, Prof. McHenry still thinks econ is the coolest thing ever, and it shows. While the topic itself is not all too interesting, he makes it so through application and examples. The tests are admittedly difficult, but he reviews with you the class before. He's very accessible during office hours.
He is an entertaining professor in class, slightly humorous and very dorky. His test are off the wall and answer choices don't always make sense. This class is much harder than the other econ 101 classes, don't take it unless its the only option
good guy, tries to make it not as dry as econ tends to be. same time not that clear and his exam questions are either wordy at best to cryptic at worst, mainly cryptic. having solid knowledge on the subject can be irrelevant on the exams which are more like SAT brain teasers testing youre reasoning. nice guy, makes class more conusing than needed

McHenry is new and extremely enthusiastic about economics. He uses many real world examples to help explain economic principles and he is generally effective. While very knowledgeable, he sometimes has difficulty describing things when students don't get them the first time, and appears uncomfortable when asked questions. Overall, good teacher
Maybe it's the course material, but I can't stand this class. His tests are so confusing, I've spent 5 minutes just reading a question trying to figure out what it's asking. His teaching style is fine, it's cute to see how excited he is about econ, but if you want a good grade, don't take McHenry's class.
It's obvious that he loves economics. He's a new teacher and occasionally that shows, but he's very enthusiastic and extremely helpful. His tests are not always easy, but he's very accessible and will continue to explain things until you understand. I do not particularly enjoy economics and will not go beyond 102, but I do like McHenry.
He's new, and it shows a lot of the time, but he tries really hard to get everyone on the same page. He is one of the most accessible professors with office hours and review sessions. His test, however, ARE BRUTAL. You never know where he is coming from and the practice exams are NOTHING like the actual exam unless you count format.
Not a bad professor, if you are confused, send him emails on questions or go to his student time and he will help you. Weekly homework assignments are easy but get annoying, and the tests are hard at first, but once you get used to his style you will get a good grade. Overall nice guy, and not a bad professor for his first year.
Nice guy, but as a lecturer he is quiet and uninteresting. He was useless outside of class for help and seemed to be annoyed by people asking questions in class. He is passionate about Econ for sure, but is a real hard grader and assigns homework that does not prepare you for the tests whatsoever.
While a lot of people are right that it shows he is a new professor, I think that he is very clear in class and that he does a good job preparing for the test.I had to use the textbook a little to get past a few homework problems, but that's to be expected. I found his tests were pretty straight forward as long as you made sure to know the concepts
If you must take Econ, do not take it with McHenry.
Mchenry is passionate about economics. He is open to questions during class, and is very helpful. The homework is not time consuming and the tests are straight forward. Attendance is not mandatory, I missed several classes and got an A. I would absolutely recommend taking his class.
Average lecturer, sometimes class can be interesting. Tests are hard, but questions are not impossible, just take getting used to. Suggest this class for people who like/are interested in econ.
McHenry was terribly boring. Many people had trouble staying awake. Stay AWAY- this is your warning. His tests are hard too. Some girls thought he was cute though.
His class is mostly interesting and very clear. And the practice tests are extrememly helpful.
Clear, entertaining, enthusiastic, interesting professor. Would recommend Labor Market Economics with him to anyone. One of those classes that you don't have to go to to do well in, but that you want to go to anyway.
I'll be honest, I'm terrible at econ. But McHenry didn't really clarify much in class, and it was difficult to understand material if you didn't read the book.
New prof is enthusiastic and helpful if need be, but he clearly cannot write tests well, yet. They take adjusting to but once you understand him, the tests are not difficult at all besides those 2 questions that you spend 30 min re-reading. Online homework assignments do not correlate well to course and are a mandatory waste of time each week.
I love Professor McHenry! If you go to class and read the book, you will be fine. Those who gave a bad rating probably didn't go to class or didn't try. If you work, you will get the grade you deserve. The online work follows the book, so it is a good grade-booster. Plus, he is super sweet and cute and makes funny jokes.
He is one of the most engaging and enthusiastic professors I have had thus far. You should go to class because his lectures are easy to follow and reading the textbook is extremely helpful but not necessary. Overall, great teacher
He is a very good lecturer. You will learn a lot from him. His tests are challenging though. I got B's on all of them and got a B in the class. He curves a little if everyone does poorly which is nice. Just go to class and read the chapters and the class will be very rewarding. Do not take for a GER I would say, take if you want to learn.
Good professor, engaging lecturer. Attendance isn't mandatory, so missing a few classes is no big deal, as long as you get the Aplia assignments done.
Prof McHenry is by far one of my favorite professors I have had. Very enthusiastic and his lectures are very clear, and if they aren't, he is even more helpful in office hours. If you don't get as good of a grade on the first exam, don't worry you will get better. Pay attention in class, study, and do the practice exams and you will do well.
Prof. McHenry is a fantastic intro teacher. Very enthusiastic about the subject and helping his students do the best they can and love econ as much as he does. Tests are tricky, but his practice tests really help. Sparked my interest in econ to pursue as a major. Great experience--don't look elsewhere to fulfill a GER!
Not as interesting of a class than it sounds. There are better ways to fulfill the writing and research requirement than this class. The Class itself isn't bad, but sometimes he doesn't make things clear enough for you to do well in. Tons of reading required, so if you don't like reading/not want to study massively for exams, take something else.
He genuinely wants his students to do well. In an auditorium class, he made sure the powerpoints were clear and simple to follow and tied the concepts to the real world. His test questions were sometimes worded oddly and you have to look at the textbook to get all the concepts and definitions. Economics bores me, but I really liked this class!
Overall a good class. He puts a lot of work into class, and it shows. However, lectures can be a bit scatterbrained at times, partly because of his insistence on class participation. Grading on papers can be a little confusing. Overall I recommend this class and professor.
Great at giving lectures, advice, and notes. Definitely wants everyone to do well. He curves exam grades if the avg is below what he wants. My advice is to use the textbook. He says not to, but I think he is testing us. I used it only on the final and got my highest grade. All the graphs and definitions you need are in there! Good exam review too.
Definitely goes out of his way to help his students do well, especially when it comes to exam time. He genuinely seems like a really sweet person. On another note, don't worry about getting the latest edition of the textbook. He doesn't reference it at all so any reading you do will only be for your own clarity.
Excellent professor. Easy class if you pay attention. He hosts review sessions before each test and the final which go over everything covered. The one time I had a question on material, I went to his office and we ended up talking for an hour about his research. Great class; has made me want to be an Economics major.
Very good at presenting class materials. He genuinely wants students to take away something from his classes and is always more than willing to help. Highly recommended.
McHenry is an interesting teacher. His lectures are boring but if you go into office hours he's great at explaining. Weekly quizzes were super easy. However, the midterms were horrendous. Multiple choice was extremely hard.
Prof McHenry is a great professor. As a freshman taking econ101 I would say he was one of my best professors so far. He offered lots of extra resources and practice test questions that were taken off his old exams so you know what types of things he will ask. He posts youtube videos, his online modules are very helpful, and he posts class notes
As an engaging a professor as one could possible be in a lecture class. Class can sometimes get a little bit dull, but he makes the topics as interesting as he can. As long as you study and keep up with notes, you shouldn't have any problems with the tests.
McHenry is great! His lectures are super clear in that he conveys complex economics concepts in real world examples, often in the form of the dorm or at The Crust. He offers review sessions before tests, is flexible with office hours and posts practice tests before exams that line up. Take him!
McHenry is a well-respected professor who is clearly incredible at economics. However, the pace and level of difficulty in his lectures does not remotely compare to the difficulty of his tests. Multiple choice are incredibly hard. This class is by no means an easy A.
One of the best teachers I had this semester. Is clearly passionate about the material, and can clearly explain it. Exams (three regular and one final) were fairly challenging, but never terribly difficult. VERY helpful during open office hours. Recommends having textbook for reference, but only bases quizzes and tests on lecture material.
Very capable economist in his own right, but is clearly passionate about introducing teaching micro. Textbook unnecessary. Great lecturer - breaks down concepts at a fluid pace. Posts extensive practice tests and notes online, including helpful summary sheets - combined with office hours all you need to succeed. No need to take notes if you attend!
I found his tests to be extremely confusing. I feel like I know more econ than what my test grades show. He's a nice guy who loves what he does, but not very lenient in terms of grading or exams.
Professor McHenry was really great. He made things pretty easy to understand and he was always open to questions during office hours. I usually went to class but he puts all of his slides online. The textbook isn't necessary, but it helps to understand things better. There are easy online modules, 3 tests, and a cumulative final.
Professor McHenry was a fantastic teacher! He was always enthusiastic about the topic and made the class interesting. I wasn't interested in Economics before, but now I'm going to take more Econ classes.
Great guy! Loved his lectures; he definitely knows what he's talking about. Tests are fair, with the 1-2 occasional tricky questions. Too bad he doesn't teach 102...
The class itself was fine and I learned a lot, but the tests were just criminal. I did better on Physics 101 honors tests. I will say he is willing to help if you don't understand something, but by the time you realize that you're already taking the test.
I would highly recommend this class. Labor Market Analysis sounds like an incredibly boring topic and really, it isn't scintillating. But Prof McHenry is genuinely enthusiastic, clear, funny, and if you go in to office hours he'll help you with just about anything. It's a 400 so it's quite tough, but it's deffo worth it.
McHenry is a wonderful person and teacher. This is a large intro class, so don't expect him to hold your hand throughout the course. Online quizzes are simple. 3 midterms and final are more difficult, but DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS and you'll be bueno. I only used book to clarify points of confusion. Overall: 910. Easy A if you try at all.
McHenry gives amazing lectures, despite the size of the class. He is clear, loud, and funny in his short lectures. Makes class interesting and exciting. His Blackboard site is full of resources to help studying for his tests. Online quizzes, however, are quite easy. Genuine and smart guy who wants everyone to love econ as much as he does.
This is my favorite class this semester!! 101 is really introductory level and whoever should take it regardless of major because it's related to everyday decision making and fun too. One online module every 2-3 weeks, 3 midterms + final. Prof is happy to curve if the average is lower than 83 (which seldom happens). HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
McHenry got me interested in Econ and now i want to major/ minor it in. His lectures are incredible and really engage students. He also plays music that correlates to what we are learning in class that day. His lectures are clear, relatable and interesting. Definitely a must-take class. I look forward to taking classes in the future with him.
Enthusiastic professor. Tests are hard, but Professor McHenry tries to make the material relevant and interesting.
Lectures can get a bit boring at times. McHenry is there for you when you seek help. You can easily skip lectures and not miss out on much since slides are posted on Blackboard. Complete modules to keep your grade up. Exams are fair, just make sure you review notes and use the practice exams he posts online. Probably the best prof for microecon
McHenry is a great professor, and really gets into his lectures. Towards the end of the semester things can start to get a little boring though. He is definitely the best teacher for micro if you want to actually learn the material - very cool guy and very willing to help.
McHenry is the man! Took his class as a prerequisite for another major, but now I'm interested in majoring in economics. Professor McHenry is very engaging and provides ample practice problems before big tests. Would take another class with him!
Prof McHenry is AMAZING! Everyone should take his intro to microeconomics class. He makes it extremely interesting and has real life examples that relate to a college student's daily life.
The professor is amazing and there for you when you need him. His tests can be difficult, but nothing you cannot manage.
Do yourself a favour and sign up for his class and go for office hours. He is super patient, encouraging, is never condescending to his students and has an infectious passion for economics. He is also exceptionally clear during office hours. He genuinely wants every student who approaches him for help to succeed in his class. Nicest professor ever.
Professor McHenry is incredible! He has such a passion for economics and it comes across in his engaging lectures. Also, he is extremely clear about what he expects for the class. His practice problems on Blackboard mirror the actual problems he puts on tests. I recommend using a textbook to study for exams, even though it is optional.
Professor McHenry gives a lot of practice problems that are helpful for the tests. Quizzes are not too hard, but the final was more difficult than expected. The textbook is not necessary, but it helps to explain some of the more difficult topics. He puts the PowerPoints on Blackboard. McHenry speaks clearly and answers questions.
McHenry's a good professor. He tries to keep his lectures engaging, and succeeds. If you miss class, he's super organized with his lectures, and has a lot of office hours. If you're interested in Econ at all, McHenry is a great way to be introduced to the field.
You don't necessarily have to go to class but it helps if you do the practice problems on blackboard as he goes through the unit, so later when it comes to tests you'll already have a background in the types of questions he asks.
Very energetic lecturer, class is fairly straight-forward: lecture notes, homework, and practice problems. DO the practice tests!! He pulls many midterm problems straight from the practice
He's a quirky and enthusiastic guy (101 is his favorite class to teach), which made lectures enjoyable. The notes are all on line but I found going to class helpful. A textbook isn't required, but I used it as a guide for studying for exams. He follows it pretty closely, so I suggest using one. Exams are fair, nothing too bad, and there is lil hw.
McHenry is very enjoyable in class and keeps your attention. The quizzes are helpful while the exams were harder, but easy for someone who is good at econ. He is great in office hours, but shows little to no sympathy; if you are bad at econ, he gets frustrated with you. Bottom line, you need some affinity for econ to like him and the class.
McHenry is a captivating, loving kind of professor with great lectures. He learned most students' names, which is hard in a big lecture. His tests are very hard; his office hours help a ton. He doesn't use a textbook, so going to class helps your grade a lot. However, he does post his lecture notes online, and they're most of what he says in class.
He communicates his passion for labor economics through his lectures, which are never boring, easy to follow, and CLEAR- something you won't often get with econ profs. All assignments are fair, but he can be a demanding grader. He's one of the nicest people you will ever meet and his class covers topics that will forever enhance the way you think.
McHenry doesn't take attendance and on the first day of the semester, encourages students to skip on the occasion they feel it's "worth it"-- but after a few classes, you won't want to miss. He's engaging, funny, and great at communicating. Knew my name out of a 100 person class when I went to office hours. Best intro teacher you could ask for.
Most underrated professor at W&M, and probably the best Econ one I have had. McHenry is simple, caring, and loves what he teaches. Workload is reasonable and his expectations are crystal clear. Not always easy, but if you put in the effort, there is no reason to not do well. This class was a blast and I wish I could take more courses with him.
Did not expect this class to be as easy as it was, but I think it's due to McHenry's ability to make confusing concepts and heavy econ papers clear and concise. He was also a very generous grader on papers and exams, and you get the midterm and final exam questions in advance. You'll need to study a lot to know everything, but it's a solid class.
McHenry is really good as an economics professor. He made Econ 101 my favorite class this semester. You have to study for his exams, but he gives plenty of practice questions and materials that are similar to what's on the real one. Overall, I wouldn't say he's an easy A, but he definitely makes it easy to do well. Anyone should be able to get a B.
Lectures are engaging, your whole grade is basically based off of three exams.
Professor McHenry sparked my interest in economics to the point where I'm now considering it as a major. He's passionate, and his lectures are clear, informative, and engaging. Tests require critical thinking above memorization. There is a lot of graph interpretation, but the practice problems are incredibly helpful and true to the test style.
Incredible professor, can't say much more. Testing is fair, his lectures are fantastic, and he answers his e-mail if you have any questions.
McHenry is a great lecturer and his classes are straightforward and engaging. However, his tests were very difficult and I often felt his classes did not prepare you well for the tests.
McHenry does a great job of providing students with an abundance of resources that will help them succeed without ever needing to buy the textbook. He's super entertaining in class but also willing to help students during his office hours and holds review sessions before every exam. As long as you do the work and pay attention you can succeed.
McHenry did a great job making a pretty boring intro-level class interesting. Would highly recommend taking economics with him. Very low homework load! If you do the practice sets he puts out and check the answers, you'll do great on the tests.
McHenry is fantastic. He brings a joy to class each day and is truly passionate about his subject. It is important to go to class every day as this really helps students do well. Just make sure you study using all his study tips and you will be fine. He is a great guy and always willing to help.
My boy McHenry is a real gem. If you're bad at tests, you're not going to do well in this class. However, as a good test taker, it was relaxing to not have to study or attend class and still do well. 3 midterms, online quizzes, in class polls, and a final are your grade. Really easy B, tough A; Final exam was really hard-- what stopped me from an A
McHenry is a great freshman professor, provides a lot of resources. Your grade depends on 3 midterms and the final exam. Material is cumulative so your easiest test will be the first, and everything after that will be fairly difficult. We could drop our worst midterm for our final exam score. Most got between B- and an A-, not many As.
I took his Intro to Microeconomics class, and he made it enjoyable. Very straightforward and provides lots of examples for comprehension. Follow his advice, and you will succeed
Great professor, especially for an intro class. Focused and interesting lectures, great test-preparation material and help, and he's very easy to reach outside class. Office hours are very helpful, and he's willing to go over any concept in detail until you understand.
McHenry has great lectures but his class is deceptively hard. His tests are long and difficult. Pay attention to the graphs he always has hes graphing short answers on his tests
I didn't get into McHenry's course at first but sat in on a course and LOVED IT! He was communicative and thoughtful while I was trying to register. He clearly explained concepts with insightful examples and real-world application. McHenry gave me an entirely new perspective on econ. 10/10 would recommend
Fine teacher. Nothing special.
Though attendance isn't mandatory, it is a good idea to go so you can really be there to learn the material. It can sometimes be dry, but he tries to make it more fun and his Econ Spotify playlist is pretty neat!
Would never take him again. Practice material is not reflective of exams. Do yourself a favor and choose another teacher for micro.
He is a great lecturer and explains concepts extremely well. You still have to study for his exams but it is easy because you will understand everything pretty well just through his lectures. He is very funny and makes you want to show up to class. I would absolutely take him again.
PETER NOLAN MCHENRY THE MAN THE MYTH THE MEME. This dude is a TIME and a half. What a fun class and interesting guy. Really made the course enjoyable and engaging, and worked really hard to make a 100 person lecture class feel personal and individualized. Tests required understanding the concepts well, most difficult are short answers (all graphs)
McHenry was a great profesor. He made learning about Econ fun. You definitely have to put in some work for this class. Expect to do an online lesson for about an hour every other week or so and study for a couple days before the large exams.
Honestly such a great professor. Even with such a large lecture hall, he truly cares about each student, and it is clear he is passionate about economics. He tries his best to make the subject material relatable and easy to understand, with lots of examples. His tests are straightforward. I'm a business major and like econ, so this class was great
The tests are not like the practice ones.
McHenry is an overall good professor nice guy. He made an effort to know names and be accessible outside of class, even outside office hours. He's really good at lecturing and makes them entertaining (think John Mulaney with 2 kids and an econ degree from Yale) However, I wouldn't recommend the class for anyone who is bad at test taking.
Professor McHenry is pretty great. ECON 101 isn't easy, but McHenry tries his very best to make his lectures interesting, and it works. He's funny, awkward, dedicated, and very smart. I didn't get an A, but I blame myself for not studying enough - study for his tests and you'll do fine! Other than that, I learned a lot, and enjoyed his class.
best professor I've ever had. leaves you with a passion for economics. connects with you as an individual, even with the large class size.
McHenry's lectures are very interactive and easy to follow. His tests are much harder than what you would expect from the lectures, but if you do the study guides beforehand you should be able to get As on all of the midterms.
Prof. McHenry is a good professor, and you can tell he knows his stuff. As a freshman, this course was challenging for me because I've never taken econ before. He didn't make all aspects of the course clear at the beginning, so when I found practice problems for previous units, I was already in trouble grade-wise and unable to get out of my hole.
McHenry is an amazing professor and has a nice, young dad vibe. Powerpoints and lectures are super clear. He's helpful outside class and holds review sessions for every exam. Provides many practice questions and extra help. Three unit exams and a final - multiple choice and easy short answers. Go to class, do the practice, and it's an easy A.
I'm sure he's a good teacher, but I sucked at his class. I found office hours unproductive, but I know other students have loved his office hours. He has really engaging lectures, but his class was definitely a mistake to take as a first-semester freshman.
If you take micro you have to take it with McHenry!! Honestly an amazing person and professor, is very clear about what he expects and makes a lecture with 120 students very engaging. Didn't put too much effort in and got an A-
Pro. McHenry's a gem. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. He answers questions and is available out of class. Not much official homework, but doing practice problems on your own is recommended. Loves his subject and wants you to like and understand it, too. He also remembers students' names, which is a feat in a 120 person lecture class
Professor McHenry is great. He's truly passionate about economics and about the success of his students. 3 exams and a final, a couple of homework assignments. Not too much work but the exams are pretty difficult, sometimes unexpectedly so. It's clear he really cares and his class has changed the way I think about both economics and life
McHenry is an excellent economics professor. While attendance is not mandatory, he will randomly take polleverywhere polls for a grade. The online lessons get a bit annoying (make sure you do well on those), and the tests were a bit more difficult than I expected... All in all, McHenry is a solid choice for Econ 101
This class is all given by lectures which are very good. His explanations are top tier and his lectures are top tier. The exams are difficult, but he offers some other grades in addition to them from online lesson quizzes. He learns some peoples names who ask questions a lot and really cares even though the class size is so big.
I really enjoyed ECON 101 with Prof McHenry. His lectures were engaging and he was always willing to answer any lingering questions that I had. Take 101 with McHenry if you can!
McHenry is such a great prof!! This was my first econ class, and I found it super helpful to record lectures via voice memo and note the minute/second for certain (confusing) concepts. When I would rewrite my notes (which he recommends) it were super helpful to listen back to!! He's also super helpful during office hourse
Really good professor. Makes the subject interesting and very engaging!!
Pretty normal class here. The professor posts lecture slides online but make sure you go to class as these slides won't contain some of the crucial examples he goes through. Tests are comprised of multiple-choice questions and short answer but are quite reasonable if you do the practice questions and understand the concepts at a fundamental level.
Professor McHenry is great! Although the material may be a bit hard at times, he does a really good job at explaining it.
McHenry is one of the best lecturers I've had at W&M. Every class was super interesting and useful. He structures this class very well to keep students engaged and growing academically, but not overwhelmed. Highly recommend.
Had to drop ECON101 with McHenry. Grade consisted of 4 exams. Had to drop when school abandoned P/F. Exams much harder than the weekly quizzes! When asked for help outside of class or some sort of extra credit / project he was not willing to help. He's very nice, but not a good teacher and often runs out of time. Beware if your first econ class!
Prof McHenry is an absolute gem. He genuinely cares about his students. He explains econ in a very logical, approachable way. Always available outside of class & does everything he can to help his classes succeed. One of my favorite professors without a doubt.
His lectures were fantastic, but the quizzes and tests were more complex than the concepts he covered in class which is what made the class difficult. However, he curves quite fairly on tests so that grades don't get demolished, and the quizzes are weekly so if you do bad on one week, there's always the next :)
Professor McHenry is funny, charismatic, and really cares about his students. He might be a better professor in-person, because I was consistently underprepared for both quizzes and midterms. His lectures did not match his assignments. Overall, I did okay in the class but did not learn a whole lot.
McHenry is very sweet and loves his job and students. He explains concepts clearly, the problem is the wording of his questions. You'll understand a concept but once you get to a test, the way he phrases questions and answers makes it very confusing. Do practice problems, they should help. He's good, just make sure you understand the concepts well.
I hated this class. One thing I didn't like was at the end of class professor McHenry wouldn't stay after to answer questions he just logged off. This class was extremely hard and he didn't seem approachable or tried to explain things simpler. Much of my work was on my own I had to teach it to myself.
Prof. McHenry is great-really cares about the subject and is super enthusiastic. That being said, exams were much harder than the lecture material; practice problems only helped a little bit and questions were often just worded in a difficult way. If you like economics take his class, but wouldnt recommend taking if you dont have to.
Prof McHenry is sweet, he is generally patient during class and office hours. My primary issue with this class is that he is not great at writing test questions, as they generally are vague or more nuanced than he intended. He gets defensive if someone asks him a lot of questions and I honestly couldn't wait for this class to end.
Professor McHenry was the highlight of my mornings! I was not sure if I was going to enjoy econ and was very nervous about the content, but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. I would specifically take more classes in Economics just to have another class with him.
Mchenry was a good professor, I really enjoyed his lectures and his tests were not too difficult if you read the textbook(he says its optional but read the textbook). You do have to show up to class but it is not bad. 100% would take again.
Professor McHenry is a GREAT professor. He is super reasonable and respectful. While the material can be kind of boring sometimes, he tries his best to make it more exciting. Every week there is a take-home quiz. They aren't that difficult. His class is definitely pretty easy.
Great professor, so easy to find him for office hours although there's usually a lot of students there when you go. He teaches the concepts really well but you will need to review your notes and study to do well. The practice tests are just like the real exams.
Professor McHenry is amazing. His lectures are engaging and easy to understand, and he really cares about his students. The practice problems he gives are exactly like the tests. It's a fun and easy class to take.
I love Prof. McHenry! He explains concepts very well and his lectures are engaging and easy to follow. The practice problems he posts are very helpful in preparing for the three midterms and final exam, so definitely check those out. McHenry is a great professor and person, and sparked my interest in economics.
Professor McHenry is truly amazing. I appreciated how straightforward he was about what he wanted and what we needed to do to do well in the class. I would recommend going to every class - so long as the benefits outweigh the costs :) - and doing all of the practice problems. He's very accessible, so just keep up and you will do great!!
This class wasn't an easy A but professor mchenry was a great prof. Always available outside of class for help and gives plenty of practice problems.
McHenry is a pretty good professor and teaches the intro class well. He says that he makes his tests questions so that they are straightforward, but they do indeed try to trick you here and there. His lectures are enjoyable with an activity once in a while but nothing special. He does post review questions/sessions and his ppt slides which is nice.
This class is not hard however lectures can be a little boring. Prof McHenry does his best to make them interesting and easy to digest and he is a nice guy. Don't skip class, it will be very hard to catch up. Weekly quiz is the only homework and he does random polls that are graded in class. Tests aren't hard if you study.
Professor Mchenry is nice but if you're not understanding the material - he's not very good at helping you understand (gets mad at too many questions). His notes are just blank powerpoint & tests are very hard and it's easy to get a lot of questions wrong. Going to office hours didn't help much either - and I had to teach myself the entire class.
McHenry's lectures can get kind of boring at times but overall, they're pretty straightforward. He posts the slides so you don't have to come to class but you'll definitely understand better if you hear him talk about the topics.
Prof McHenry is very nice, but his exams were so hard. I tried to meet with him for help but at that point my grade was too far gone, I had to withdrawal. Very nice, very knowledgeable, but I have heard (& from experience) that he is the hardest econ professor at W&M. It's up to you whether you take his class or not.
He's very caring and accessible, and he is a great lecturer. The class is very interesting. You have to show up to class and take good notes though. There are weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam -- I found the quizzes and midterm do-able but had to work hard for my grade. It's definitely not an easy class but it's a good class.
Professor McHenry was amazing for Labor Market Analysis! Really interesting topics covered and he's a good lecturer. Very accessible outside of class to ask questions about tests or the paper. He gives you the possible q's to the test before hand, so there is a ton of prep but it's easier on test day. Paper wasn't bad, just leave enough time for it
He's a pretty good econ teacher and he clearly cares about the material. That being said his test questions are sometimes a little vague so I'd recommend doing all of the practice problems for the midterms and exam so you get familiar with what he's looking for cause it's not always evident just by reading some of his questions.
Mchenry is very organized and teaches the information of the course in a very detailed way, but you HAVE to really think about the information and study on your own to understand the course. He makes class entertaining, however, the exams are crazy difficult. The course can be easy if you put the work in.
Great guy and extremely knowledgable on the topics. Lots of material on BB to help you excel. Weekly quizzes aren't easy, nor are the tests, but if you study hard and use all of the material available to study you will be fine. He also has lots of office hours and is accessible. Not the easiest class but I feel like I truly understand the material.
Lectures are extremely helpful for understanding the material. However, there are times it can get boring. Make sure utilize the resources he provides for the exams especially the practice problems. Exams can sometimes be worded in a tricky way so be careful.
Professor McHenry is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Super kind, clearly cares about what he is teaching. His lectures were very engaging, even funny at times. If you're looking for an ECON 101 teacher, take his course.
Professor McHenry was super lovely and accessible outside of class, I simply was not a big fan of econ. If you need to take this class, McHenry is a solid bet. Reaching out to him helps a ton, and he can stir you in the right direction if you need him to. I will admit some of his course material did not make much sense, but that's just econ.
Econ is a hard class in general but Prof. McHenry was great! No textbook and lectures are not recorded so use all the materials on BB to help - he posts plenty of practice problems, videos, supplemental notes, annotated slides, and hosts Zoom review sessions before exams. He's very willing to help students and super understanding
McHenry is an excellent lecturer and great in office hours. He posts everything on BlackBoard, so you're not behind if you need to miss a class. I do wish he could have gone over more complicated examples during class, though. The cost of something is what you give up to get it.
Professor McHenry's 101 class had clear criteria. He posts slideshows from each class on BB but definitely try not to miss lectures as it's easier to understand the material when he explains it. He provides lots of practice problems for each exam, and his exams are usually very similar to the practice tests.
Professor McHenry was an interesting lecturer, but my first red flag should have been the lack of a textbook. He has high expectations for your background knowledge of Econ and deemphasizes its relationship with mathematics. I wish I did myself a favor and switched into another class. As a person with no background knowledge, it did NOT go well.
Professor McHenry does a really good job explaining and giving examples for topics, something that I've come to appreciate more as I am taking other econ classes. I did not believe that his exams were too hard, especially given the practice problems he provided.
McHenry is such a great professor. Be ready for tought exams throughout the semester but his lectures prepare you well but seeing him outside of class will definitely benefit you.
McHenry is very kind and his econ lectures are engaging. I am not an econ person, but he made the material interesting and make sense. However, your entire grade is based a little on quizzes and participation, and mostly on exams. The exams were difficult to me because of the tricky multiple choice. Even though it was hard though, I enjoyed it.
He was a great teacher and made some dry and boring topics interesting and easy to learn. It was a huge lecture hall so unless you go to office hours and make a point to get to know him he will not know who you are. Would recommend if you can get a spot
Professor McHenry is clearly very knowledgable but he is not the best lecturer. The only reason I was able to understand the material he was teaching was because I took AP econ in high school. His exams are difficult so prepare even more than you think and do each practice test twice.
Professor McHenry is a really good professor. Although, I don't love Econ, he made the class a little more enjoyable. Plus, his slides are very thorough and helpful. He does lots of practice problems to ensure understanding. He is always willing to meet with you if you are struggling, and shows that he really cares about his students.
The grade is decided mostly by 3 exams and a final, not hard to do decently well as he gives you practice problems similar to test questions.
ECON160 is a new course this year so I understand there being confusion on the professors part. YET, Mchenry (as amazing, funny etc as he is) was completely disorganized and unknowedgeable. He did not seem to know what he was doing or assigning, and yet had VERY high expectations and was a very difficult grader w/o providing necessary info.
McHenry was honestly my favorite professor I have had so far. Very engaging lectures, made me more confident in my choice to be an econ major. Honestly looked forward to going to class, but that may just make me a nerd. If you come in with basic understanding already (I took it in hs), this class is super easy.
His lectures could be boring, especially at 9am, but his expectations were very clear and fair for the course. He was helpful in office hours and even though I don't like the subject I could do well. I really liked him as a professor.
Professor McHenry makes labor economics really fun! The workload is really light and is mainly short concept quizzes every week, midterm, a paper, and a final. The paper was very applicable to the topics in class and he gave really good advice/guidance if you were stuck on it. You get the midterm and final questions ahead of time.
Great professor, definitely take him for principles of microeconomics! Very clear on what he expects from the class and a greater lecturer.
I have never been good at coding, but he always explained everything in class very clearly, line by line and was happy to stop whenever there were questions. Blackboard notes were also excellent. Picky grader, though. Overall would strongly recommend this class to anyone considering an Economics major, especially if you are afraid of code like me.
Very interesting and pretty easy course. Most classes are discussions based on assigned readings, which McHenry moderates fairly and thoughtfully. Grade is mostly determined by four projects throughout the semester. Some Stata use required, but not much and McHenry is always happy to help. Overall strongly recommend.
I used to love Econ until this class. McHenry will teach you the absolute basics, leaving you to figure out the practice problems that don't 100% correspond to the tests. I only got an A from prior knowledge and going to office hours, where there is a solid chance he will be annoyed at you. From his unfair tests to bad office hours, he's overrated.
McHenry is alright for micro, but make sure you read the textbook and come to class prepared if you don't have prior knowledge. Graded on 3 exams, 10 quizzes, and polls which act as attendance checks. Study for the exams - you only get 1 drop if you perform better on the final. He's accessible and not intimidating, so go to office hours.
engaging lectures that correlate directly to the exams. there are small open note quizzes every week to gage where you are with the material and also one-point polls in class that you can only access if you are in class. he also provides review problems for each exam that are very helpful since some of the questions are really similar.
Excellent professor, lectures are thorough and engaging and thoroughly prepares students for exams
Best Econ 101 professor. His lectures are engaging, and he explains things in an intuitive way that makes econ easy to understand. Exams are fair, but you have to study hard for them by going over the notes and practice. The optional textbook helps clear up some stuff, so if you read it in addition to the lectures, it helps a lot.
Probably the best professor I had in my first semester. His lectures are engaging and he explains concepts well. He also gives a ton of practice tests, lets you see your tests online, and replaces one midterm grade with the final. He gives PollEverywhere questions in class that barely affect your grade. His class is a little easier than AP Micro.
Amazing class! He explained the lectures so well and the exams were just like the practice!
This class was awesome and McHenry made it really easy and fun. He has good lectures and as long as you take notes and study for the exam you will be fine. Weekly 15 question quiz but it's super easy and you can do it whenever before due date. Only hard thing about this class is the exams. Very helpful in office hours which you should go to.
I loved this class! Professor McHenry was a clear and entertaining lecturer. I thought the tests and quizzes were fair and lacked any out the blue questions. He gives a ton of practice problems and is really good at explaining things during office hours. This was by far my favorite class this semester!!
Good lecturer and makes topics easy to understand. No outside reading or homework, but studying material outside class is expected. 3 midterm exams and one final, also has weekly graded quizzes. He provides practice problems before each exam which are very helpful and similar to exam content. Doesn't cover some topics that other ECON101 profs do.
Professor McHenry is a great guy to have as a teacher. He starts class off by playing all kinds of music that are vaguely related to the day's topic, which was fun. There were some classes where we answered one-question pop quizzes for a freebie grade. The exams were manageable as long as you attended class regularly.
For Econ 101 at W&M he's the best prof you'll find. He tries so hard to make the class fun and digestible especially for those with no Econ experience. There are weekly open note quizzes and four tests that make up the class. attendance isn't mandatory but there are poll evs. he's such a great guy and prof I would take his class again
Best ECON101 professor at w&m. You do not need any econ experience. There are weekly open note quizzes for the weekend, and 3 exams and a final that make up the class. Attendance isn't fully mandatory but there are poll evs which help your grade a bit and if he doesn't say it in class, it won't be on the exam. Also had zooms the night before exams.
My letter grade is not the best reflection of McHenry's teaching abilities, I just became a little lazy towards the end of the semester. Neverthless, attend his office hours! Even if you think you understand the content, he can help you out more than you might expect.
An absolute ball to learn with this professor. 0 complaints. Every class should be taught by him.
