takes attendance; gives exam questions in advance; interesting lectures
The International Man of Mystery/Economics
HE IS THE GREATEST PROFESSOR THAT I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.
One of the greatest teacher I have ever had. Very interesting, gives lecture for full class. No homework, don't even need the book. The tests are 100% from the questions he gives you in begining of the semester. Just study the notes HARD and easy A+!
his lectures are boring, he acts very stuck-up and makes arrogent jokes, don't understand what he's talking about, and he grades his tests very hard, have to write two essays for every test, and those are the only grades.
He is sucks, he always says something about his arrogant story. I only need to remember the note which I got from the tutor(Irwin) who is a good tutor and batter than Naylor.
Just study the questions and the class is a breeze. If your extra stupid go to Irwin the tutor. He grades the tests easy and there is a huge curve.

His lectures are very interesting. I learned a lot from him which I applied it in my real life. The exams are difficult because it requires a lot of study and to get a good grade is better to go with the tutor (Naylor). The reason why students don’t pass the class is because they don’t try hard.
Pay ATTENTION in lecture, even though it gets boring at times and look at the midterm questions while he lectures, he usually answers them in class but in his own weird way, so pay attention. Reading the book does help, but just read it and go over the packet of notes.
very tough. tests are not on lectures but on text. a lot of work. very confusaing teacher and tough to get god grade
great teacher, knows his stuff. gives you the questions that will be asked on the tests. people get offended by his bluntness, but if you're not a complete pansy, you will find it amusing. easy if you just make sure you do the questions and pay attention in class.
Hard grader, though, very unhelpful. He grades the tests extremely hard. Hard to do well and you don't learn anything from his class. I don't recommend him. Avoid him if you see this old man.
take over barr!!! i got in an A in his class, and all my friends who took Barr got Cs... Naylor may be a bit boring but his class is manageable. He gives midterm questions ahead of time.
Mixed feelings about this class.. Tests are KILLERS but there's no assignments except for 2 midterms and a final.. You get the questions ahead of time, but they're still hard as heck. If you're a great test taker you'll be fine, but if you're not, keep up with your reading and DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
Really tough but i got an A so it is possible to do it.
Naylor is an awesome teacher. He doesn't bs like most teachers. He is very straightforward and lets you know what he expects. He also gives the questions for the exams at the beginning of the semester. He's sexy for an older guy!!!!!

Very badddddd teacher and unhelpful too.

very rude and professor, who does not care about their students. also a cheap **** who will bum cigarretes the entire semester if you take his night class.
he'll tell you to take off your hat, pull up your pants, etc. does not respect opinion will just raise voice and talk over you. His stories about being a venture capitalist are cool but he repeats himself.
My favorite professor I have ever had! Naylor graduated from Stanford, he gives the questions for the essay exams ahead of time (what could be easier?), he knows his sh!t, lectures are non-stop yet informatively brilliant, I have taken BUS 101 & 102,
I'd give him an A+++ for being boring, rude, a ****, and a guy jelous of rich kids. He wants what he doesn't have and picks on the poor students. BEWARE ! your pillow might get attatched to your face! he will go on an on about his life and nothing on econ !
Can safely say that Peter Naylor is without doubt the most incompetent, arrogant and repetitive teacher I have ever experienced. Having studied abroad in one of Europe’s top Universities I can contend that this man is lacking a considerable amount of knowledge on the required area and that he is unfit to teach an international business class @ SBCC
I took Naylor and withdrew because his teaching style just wasnt doing it for me, it was to lax and scatterbrained. I then took it with Barr and earned an A. She was tougher but her lectures lined right up with the text and she made total sense. I recommend Barr over Naylor, plus Naylor is egotistical and it shows.

he is a very fair, easy going teacher who says what he thinks and means what he says. the essay qs are given before the exam, so if you actually READ THE TEXT his class is managable. waaaaaaaayyyy better than barr.
SO BORING especially for a 3 hour class. His tests are easy because you have the questions, but the quizzes are a different story. I would not reccomend him.
total ass he is a jerk not at all helpfull however he gives you the essays before the exam. If you are good at memorizing he is good not a good teacher but managable.
He is very routine in his teaching method. Favors exchange students, and tends to grade harsh.
He is a dick, his class is useless. As long as you study for the tests by answering the questions you'll be fine b/c his T.A. grades the tests.
Subject is extremely hard to follow and you can get lost in his lectures. He has a tutor that is available to meet with and she grades tests. Go to all tutor sessions(!) or your chance of getting an A drops. He drops your grade if you dont attend class so make sure to have someone sign you in if you are not going to be attending class that day.

very hard old man...anyway if you're taking his class coz you've to...be prepared for his stories...aha he's always the hero of whatever he tells...i got sick of that
I took both 101 & 102 with Mr Naylor. I really learned a lot in both of his classes. He keeps your attention, and is fairly lenient, but is definitely no pushover. Come to class on time and prepare your essays ahead of time, and you'll be fine.
i dont really know what to say about naylor. He can sometimes be VERY confusing and sometimes i am on the verge of falling asleep in class. He sometimes will make fun of you during class. His test questions are pretty hard and some of the answers arent even in the book! also, the quizzes are horrible!i studied all night & still got a D on them
if it wasnt for the fact that all the other econ teachers suck i wouldnt be taking naylor.he also is pretty bad though.VERY difficult class.makes me memorize 16 essays for the final. Also,if you want to be critisized, made to feel stupid, and made fun of..take his class.he does all of the above.it makes me not want to attend class.
this guy is a ****ing d-bag. He knows nothing about how to teach. Dont take the other ones either. Sbcc needs to work on the econ professors it picks up
Rude,Arrogant,Boring,Critical,Makes fun of students.Tests r VERY difficult but he gives u the questions beforehand.u have 2 know 5 essays each midterm&have 14 memorized by the final.If u don't go2tutoring your screwed!
What a freak. It's difficult to learn anything because he goes on and on about himself, he's arrogant, rude and demeans students. You're so busy thinking, "What a p*ick" that you can't focus on what you're supposed to be learning. Thoroughly unlikeable person and a terrible teacher.
NAYLOR for president. waht i think it comes down to, is hes to smart to teach. People hate him and talk trash because he probably shouldnt be a teacher. He should be president or in some political position. VERY smart guy, assumes students are just as smart as him and in truth we arent. If he ran for president i would definately vote for him.
NAYLOR FOR PRESIDENT
mr. Naylor is chill. his assignments and homework are reasonable and tests are laid out in front of you before you take them, there is no supprises. he explains things well, i will be taking more of his classes.
The lectures are great, very clear and interesting. The tests are difficult, all essays!
I thought Peter Naylor was really disrespectful. He thinks he's the center of the universe and everybody should behave like him! WRONG. His class is not too bad, I just wish he could have talked less about himself and the great person he is.
Hes a cool guy. Hes a straight up east coast guy, and he handles business like one. If you complain about him, you should switch your major, because he reflects the business world like it is. A able if you study.
Rude, arrogant, disrespectful. I came out of lectures mystified as to what he was teaching, but he does give questions before exam so it is possible to get a decent grade. The sole fact that I was fuming at his insults kept me awake thru a 3 hour lecture.
1) Makes up fake friends, and lies to our faces. 2) Goes off on tangents not relating to the material. 3) Rude 4) Incoherant syllabus 5) Can't learn anything from his mindless babble. 6) Vain, pessimistic and terrible. 7) Cannot tell, from syllabus, when a test or quiz is. 8) No class-work. There is no learning to be had...EVER. Horrible teacher.
Hes an amazing individual with much knowledge to relay to students. Naylor has a dry sense of humor which can be mistaken for a condescending bitter man. He means well and has a lot to offer. Quite the well rounded individual as well as a dick beater..So take advantage of it!!!!

Naylor is a good guy

If Naylor is going to go off on irrelevant tangents I wish he would get SOME facts correct. He wasted time talking about the murder of Anastasia in 1918.She was 17 not 3 her little brother
Naylor is a cool guy. His exams are was hard, if your down to write essays (he has you study 4 or 5 and he will choose 2) then you will do fine. He is interesting and funny. Class was hard though.
Best teacher i've ever had. you get the exam questions in the start of the semester, so youre just really stupid if you fail. If you don't like his style, change your major to ethical studies or something!
If you want an easy ride, this teacher is not for you. But if you want to learn about business or economics then Professor Naylor is your man! Classes are full to the point of bursting with info and he hits you with it fast. He's funny and interesting and will keep your awake through the whole semester. Smart guy!
Mr. Naylor is amazing. It is clear what he expects and gives you all the test questions at the beginning of the semester. Like someone said, if you fail, you're stupid. He's extremely intelligent and never goes off on irrelevent topics. If you don't like his teaching style, you certainly don't belong in a business or economics field. Great class.
Mr.Naylor is a brilliant and a very intelligent man. His class can be challenging, but if you keep up with the reading, attend class, and prepare for the exams questions, you should be fine. Quiz questions can be a little bit tricky so pay attention during his lectures! Overall he is charming and makes the class very interesting!
Arrogant
He has changed since I took a class with him a year ago. He cares about students but because he is shy he is seen as arrogant. Best lecturer on campus. Watch his change continue...
Be prepared. Naylor is a super hero. He can fly and knows everybody that ever made any news. He is so smart that he knows things that aren't in any book.
Terrible learning environment. Asks a question and makes the entire class guess for 5 minutes. After he has made fun of every answer, he enlightens you with his "wisdom", which is most of the time not any different from the answer a student had already given.
It's like listening to Grandpa; not so good with the facts, but he is always the hero
Naylor would tell you that the sun is blue if that means that a) he get's a good laugh b) it makes him look smart c) he can rant about something
even he seems a good guy is a jurk, study and atend the class coz he will take your grades in stade of giving a higher grade
You'll hardly learn anything in his class. He relies almost exclusively on his tutors to teach you that stuff. I've given up asking him questions, because all I got was the obvious superficial "demand/supply" answer, which makes you look like an idiot.
Professor Naylor is a very intelligent man and can be of great use if you get on his good side. Definitely attend class and definitely do not bug him with pointless questions during office hours. Read, pay attention, and learn. He can be intimidating at times, but if you see through it, he is a very good person. Just ignore his uncalled for politic
His attitude toward students leaves room for improvement.
I really like economics, but some of the things he says are just plain wrong. Also, there is always something you get out of any class, but I have a hard time learning anything in his class. He rants about a topic and then stops right before the conclusion. Take someone else if you want to learn something.
he is very bad !
First, Naylor is a an argonant SOB... but, he is one of the most knowledgeable business professors you can find. Make sure you participate in class and go to the tudoring sessions. I would not want to learn business from anyone but him. If you're serious about business take this class, pay attention and take notes. You won't regret it!
I think people mistake Naylors stories as being arrogant. He used to work with some very interesting people in the business world, and hes one hell of a smart guy. The thing with the class is that if you arent interested he doesnt want you in there...and you have to attend class. Tests are easy if you take the time to remember all the material!
you need a lot of time to be able to read, study, write and good memory to remember the 16 essays for the final. it SEEMS EASY! but it really is not, if you want an A in his class you need luck and 2b on top of material or else lecture wont help u much. its hard to get the A, its an easy B or C, but ur not studying if u get less. 90% u 10% NAYLOR
If you want to be an economics whiz, take Naylor. Very in your face, calls your bs, lot of material, lot of preparation (felt like a 4-5 unit course) but you'll come out feeling like an economic bank of knowledge once you're done.
His grading is the worst! He will grade your "critical thinking excercises" to his own opinion, and not the facts, wich can be very detrimental to your success. he doesn't give point. it's an abc world for him. If you miss a test, you can't retake and they are super hard because he expects you to remember a ton of issues that you have to write into
arrogant, tells lots of stories, has more friends than there are people in the world, but an excellent professor. You will know your econ when you're done taking him.
He acts like he knows everything and everyone else knows nothing, he bashes on the school faculty saying how bad they are when he works for them, he teases students and is condescending to everybody who isn't for his favor, and grades what he thinks is right, not the facts. I DO NOT reccomend him to anybody who wants to keep their self esteem or go
since it is a difficult course he automatically is not going to be liked by people. its a tough course. read the textbook. show up to every class. he is extremely knowledgeable but forgets that everyone else doesnt know as much as he does. also, he has been everywhere at every time doing everything.
Naylor was awsome, I think he is the only professor at SBCC that isn't a Liberal Democrate. He tells you how economics and business really works, it sometimes isn't what the liberal hippies in the class want to hear, but its the truth. You will learn alot from this class especially if you want to be successful and live a good life.
This is not an easy class however his tests and quizzes are fair. You study and put in the time you will do well. Attendance is also worth as much as all your quizzes so it's vital that you show up. His stories seem to involve every country in the world and somehow he advised their leaders on what to do with their economy. Enjoy the peach story...
This is a hard class, but you will learn alot if you put in the time outside of class. The material is relevant and taught in a manner that holds your attention. Ironically, He looks and acts like Carter Pewderschmit from Family Guy.
Naylor is one of the most intellectual and passionate professors at sbcc. Econ 101 is not for the weak, he shows you how it works from a conceptual and practical perspective. Highly Recommended for those with an interest in Econ and wish to avoid the random theories and jargin. True economics at its best! Thanks Naylor!!
If you want to learn about Peter Naylor, his life, his friends and his achievements, please take this class. If you want to learn econ, please do not.
International Business isn't for the weak minded and thin skinned. If you can't handle this class, how can you handle the real deal? His lack political correctness did not inhibit my learning experience it expanded it cause he's so in your face that you have to squirm and take some self reflection about why.His experience is invaluable.Best Prof!
Guy flips if you leave class early, will call you out in front of all 100 people. A bit abrasive and doesn't seem to care what people think. Will belittle your lack of knowledge, but the guy knows what he is talking about. It won't be easy though.
Naylor is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is terrible. He picks on his students and will make you feel stupid in front of the whole class, often for no reason. If it weren't for attendance accounting for 15% of the final grade, I would never have gone to his class because he is so rude. I advise all people to take another teacher if possible.
Pretty hard class. Expected to know a lot of what is going on. Singles a lot of people out.
best teacher at sbcc by far. the guy knows his stuff and will make sure you know it too. he looks at the big picture and isnt afraid to criticize anyone. he doesnt beat around the bush and could care less for the status quo if it doesnt work. he really makes you think about the real world its not just theory. hes the reaason im an econ major
If you don't like Naylor then honestly you probably shouldn't be a business or econ major. And let me tell you from experience that ANYONE is better than Barr. You must go to class and pay attention, which is not difficult when he is talking, to pass.He tells it like it is and If you don't like him or his style you shouldn't be taking an econ class.
He is a very hard teacher. I have never seen a teacher give a D to almost everyone in class. He is Crazy. He picks on almost everyone of his students and will make you feel stupid in front of class every time there is a test.
Respectful and clear, very experienced in real life and very aware about his topics. Direct and tells you like it is.
Intelligent teacher that thinks too much of him and could not care less for the students. I've been asking him to simplify things, but he really doesn't. I'm a person who wants it hands down, he likes to teach by us thinking it out and then writing the answer in riddles. I've been studying economics for 3 years, been having A's until now.
Very knowledgable about this field, but went on and on about his accomplishments and the people he knows. Arrogant, not understanding at all. Didn't have very much respect for the class. He arrived and ended class late every day. Every test, almost everyone failed. The week prior to finals, only 1/2 the points were accumulated, so lots of end work.
best teacher ever.....hands down. peter gets you ready for the business world
Naylor is a great teacher who knows what he is talking about and many students should take advantage of that. He does pick on students but he does that to make sure that your understanding the material. He isn't an easy teacher but if you take the time to do the reading and take good notes during class you will pass that class
Very hard teacher. Knows his subject TOO well and doesn't explain clearly. Will call and pick on you during class. I learned nothing.
Mr. Naylor is the best professor I have ever had. I highly recommend ECON 101 and 102.
He is so nice, although the lectures are hard. If you go to his office hours, you will get a lot of help.
Peter is an interssting guy, some people will hate him some people will love him. He is a very straight forward no bs type of guy who teaches the facts and has some stories to add also. My issue with him is how into himself he is, its honestly his way or the highway. He wont hesitate to bash on people in class either. I'd say go with a diff profess
Naylor is by far the best professor I have ever had. He has experience outside of academia so he knows what hes talking about(no bs). Teaches the material in a way which makes you think. Couldn't ask for a better way to learn economics. Highly recommend
He has difficult lectures and a very aggressive manner that makes his classes difficult to sit through. He does know his subject very well but doesn't explain it well. If you take his class you basically have to repeat what his says onto the test verbatim. I do not recommend him.
Naylor is very knowledgeable of his subject and I would recommand him to anyone who wants to learn something. He does talk about his life, but it is alway relevant for the subject. About the grading, one does simply not just get an A, you need to deserve it. Which I think is good, because if you make it, you will be feeling very good about it.
Professor Naylor is a no BS, on-top-of-it, teacher. He's pretty abrasive if you're late or slack off, but if you're willing to put in the work, he's well worth the time. Study well, listen to what he tells you, and you'll do fine.
Mr. Naylor is by far the most knowledgable, most inspiring teacher I've ever had. He truly wants his students to succeed and explains the material in a way that students can relate to. He was offered a job at Stanford and has real world experience in over 60 (i think) countries as an economist. He does require that you show him effort though.
Great Professor! Naylor is awesome! He knows what's he's talking about and is clear and very knowledgable! He tells life learning stories about the subject he's talking about and refers it back to economics! I highly recommend him! He's the best teacher I've ever had! Intelligent wise and so much better than Barr
Great professor! Often times engages in rants, but they are entertaining and always relate to the topic.
Best teacher I have had so far. He is the real deal. Incredibly intelligent and passionate on the subject. He actually holds you accountable which makes you a better student.
Only take his classes if you want to succeed in life.
These classes require your full attention and effort but pay off more than any other classes you will ever take. Professor Naylor influenced me to change my major to Econ and I am at UCSB now and got an A in Econ 10A and 100B because Naylor helped me understand everything inside and out before transferring. He's simply the best teacher Ive ever had
Best class and teacher by far! Take this with PETER NAYLOR if you want to learn. Huge amount of knowledge, you get a deep insight in the stock market, evaluating a company, economics and much more. A devoted teacher that wants you to learn. If you don't want to learn or put in an effort you should waste your time somewhere else though!!
Naylor will challenge you to critcally assess everything in Macroeconomics. He is very demanding, when he tests you on the subject(essay tests). This class is not for the people seeking an easy-A, Barr isn't much easier but Naylor provides you with a clear understanding of Econ by the time you're done.
Tough grader! Very enthusiastic, and very interesting classes, if you do the work you will get the grade you desire! Best Econ teacher at SBCC
Very opinionated and stubborn. Has a bad habit of talking down to his students. Doesn't test on knowledge as much as test on his opinion. Tends to ramble. Overall, terrible.
I found this class to be interesting if you read any other book besides the ISBN 9781930789883 required for the class. Naylor does not relate the questions on his exams to any info provided in the book especially money/spending multiplier. His metaphors never end in relativity, only ends in degrading students when they express their own opinion.
Mr. Naylor is a very difficult teacher. I studied 10-15 hours a week and got a B-. Has a big ego and is very narrow-minded, but very intelligent. I actually learned a lot in this class, but have never met a tougher grader in my life. Overall great teacher who cares for his students success but at the same time can be very rude & stereotypical.
Best Economics teacher at SBCC. He's super interesting, very knowledgable and has a ton of experience in real world economics that he shares with you. He goes beyond the classroom. He is definitely a hard grader and it's not an easy class but it's not supposed to be, if you're competent and you put in the work then you will have a great experience.
He knows a lot about economics but from my experience he tends to snap at students who answer the questions wrong and then wonders why no one wants to speak up. He's also pretty narrow minded but if you read the book and pay attention you should be fine.
Worst teacher ever.
Peter Naylor is a great teacher! If you actually want to learn something his classes will be the ones you should take. I took International business and International Economics, and got A in both classes. Make sure though you do your best, be on time, do the homework and behave properly!
Possibly one of the best classes I've taken at CC. Mr. Naylor is a no-nonsense kind of guy who demands a lot out of his students. His use of personal examples helps relate real world examples to the material. The test are challenging but as long as you pay attention in class and do the reading you should be ok. Answer the packet questions early.
Knows what he's talking about (more than anyone), has experience (better than you re never gonna have or can hope), understand better than others (because went to the best school, blablabla .... ) Hard grader, BIG EGO, and think the world s always gonna be the same. Thank you for this semester -
He's probably the most educated economics teacher I'll ever meet. Show up to every class on time and pay attention. He is a tough grader so study the essay questions way in advance and you should be fine.
A GREAT course if you want to succeed in business. It requires effort but easily the course were you learn the most. Clear syllabus. Professional and structured teacher and requires the same from the students. He acknowledges students as adults instead of children as many other teachers. The grade symbolizes what you learn. HIGHLY recommended.
Naylor will grade you based on his personal feeling about you. Memorize his lectures and regurgitate the answers verbatim otherwise he will grade you poorly on your midterm and final essay questions and can deduct points as he feels. If you want to be ridiculed, stereotyped and manipulated by his political ideologies then this is the class for you.
Sir Naylor is really a good and knowledgable teacher. It is kinda easy to get A since he gave questions for midterm and final. Taking notes will help you to answer these question. Consider this class as a combination of econ and politics. Have to read the material. Please dont be a tough grader, we're just 20yo without any experience. we study hard
Sir Peter Naylor is a good professor. He really knowledgable. He always share his experience and today's economic political situation. He gave question for mid and final, but that doesnt mean easy. I hope in the future he give extra credit to student with borderline score or at least a lil bit roundof 84.5 to 85. Which is B- to B. It seems fair.
Not the best teacher. He is very knowledgable but an extreme ego maniac. He is also a very hard grader! If you are not passionate about learning economics don't expect better than a B in this class. Has absolutely no compassion for Environmental majors and often speaks badly about environmentalists. Doesn't believe in global warming...
this professor is awesome, he is one of the most intelligent person i have ever met. he is a very hard grader but if you really want to learn something take his class and you will. i am very happy i took his class it was very stressful but worth it.
I've had Prof. Naylor for Micro & Macro economics, Int'l Econ and Managerial Finance at SBCC. By far the best professor in terms of preparing you for life after SBCC. I've recently transferred and now studying Bus Admin and I could not thank him more. Learned all the important economic concepts in his courses. Go to class, listen and participate.
He is the best teacher as SBCC ! He fully prepares his students for is exams, future business courses, and life ! Attend every class and stay engaged and a A is manageable !
Yes, the tests are tough and good grades are hard to achieve, but Naylor uses experience from his own career to give great insight into the subject. You actually learn a lot!
Terrible teacher. Egoistic, judgmental, and downright unprofessional. I've never been in a class where a teacher talks and brags so much about themselves. I would suggest to not take this class; his grading is tough. Even if you get one word wrong he will mark you off. You only get graded for 3 tests, not a big window to earn a good grade.
He has great stories to share about his work experience and life but his lectures are unclear and difficult to understand. No chance to review for test so students don't get chance to discuss about questions or about the test. Unclear what to do better to higher the grades or do better on summaries.
Never have your own opinions or express your ideas in class. I was hoping that I would get a teacher that allows you to speak up in class like you would in a debate, but be careful! You should never disagree with his political views in class or on your midterm and final. The questions are made up of any 3 to 4 questions taken from the syllabus.
Very racist and likes to point out each persons nationality in front of the class. Lectures lead nowhere and he expresses too much political anger and frustration on the class. Students should not have to agree with his political views. We are here to learn about Economics!
You'll do fine if you treat this class like an online one & put in the work. You don't need to memorize all of the useless vocabulary terms from the long textbook, just look up the main ideas from the notes and read his book. If you're sensitive and don't like hearing other peoples valid opinions don't take this course with Peter.
Peter Naylor discusses irrelevant information during class and it gets confusing because he does not stay focused on the topics that we are being quizzed on. I think everyone is afraid to speak up in class because he will try and make a fool out of you. Students become sensitive when he asks them to stand up at the board and make them hold hands.
Mr. Naylor encourages students to become Environmental Studies and Earth Science majors. Thanks for a great summer!
Professor Naylor is a brilliant professor that is overqualified to teach at a city college. He demands a lot from his students and is very passionate about his work, so don't take his class if you aren't interested in the topic. NOT a good professor for sensitive people or those looking for an easy ride.
Peter Naylor is a competent professor who expects high level work out of his students. Do not take his class if you are looking for an easy A or a teacher who avoids conflict. Naylor has over 40 years of applied business experience, and after taking two classes with him I wouldn't recommend a finance or econ course taught by anyone else at SBCC.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I felt like I learned more in a semester with him then I did all of high school. He's tough, but it's worth it. He is an extremely intelligient man.
COMPLETELY RUDE and such a boring class
I really like this funny man. He treat me so nice and I like to ask question during private study session. I am scared to talk in class but I am comfortable when not in front of people.
he was a great professor
It is true, a great teacher with 40 years of experience and lots of stories to prove his expertise. I have had many great teachers and none seem to be quite like Mr. Naylor.
He teaches so many good classes at SBCC and they are all Business and Economics classes. I wish he would be teaching the classes for my major like Geography and Anthropology. There is a lot to learn from him as far as Economics goes and is similar to World Geography.
I have been inspired to take more Economics classes because I want to learn about investing in the stock market. I also want to learn how to analyze quarterly and annual reports. I am looking forward to UCSB and becoming an Analyst someday.
Economics and Environmental Studies are a lot alike. A successful country cannot sustain itself without petroleum which is found underground. I have been inspired to learn more about Economics thanks to Mr. Naylor.
He's a good and fair teacher. He tells you from day one what will be on all the exams , there's no reason not to get a good grade. He's a really experienced person, he went to Stanford, was in the military, did research on international oil markets for the Brookings Institute. He has some opinions but always allows people to disagree.
Even though some people say that Mr. Naylor is not a good Professor I believe the opposite. The negative comments are from students who didn't receive a good grade because clearly they didn't study. He is clear from the beginning. If you study you do well in class. You don't need to buy a book, he gives you one online. He is an amazing professor.
Don't take this course if you don't plan on putting in effort. If you try and actually think about the material you will do well, if you mindlessly come to lecture and don't read the book you wont. Just put in the time. Mr. Naylor wants his students to succeed and is well-versed in many subjects so lectures are interesting if you engage.
Mr. Naylor is by far the best professor i have had throughout my academic career. He is more than qualified, and truly gives you all the tools necessary to succeed. Those who are commenting negatively simply did not want to work for a good grade, they'd rather have it handed to them by a teacher who doesn't give a crap whether you learn or not.
Profesor Naylor was great! He saves all his students money by providing his own for us to download. His lectures were interesting and clear. The amount of effort you put into his class will reflect on your grade. Show up to every class!
Prof. Naylor has so much experience and knowledge from his career that he wants to share with his students. I'm an international student and I felt treated with respect and dignity. If you read the assigned chapters ( 10 pages per week), answer the associated questions ( 5), and review these questions before the tests, you'll do well!
If you have to take Macro, I am warning you DO NOT take this professor. There are 5 grades into the grade book for the entire semester, 2 tests "10 pts each", 2 (10 question) quizzes "10 pts each" and the final. He is also very rude, talks down on people, and if you're not his favorite, you won't get a good grade. Very Judgmental. I had a 3.4 gpa..
I took classes from Peter Naylor in the late 1980's and early 1990's in investing. I became inspired to learn more though I had very little money to invest at the time. It became a fun and interesting hobby. Now, as retirement approaches, I see where the things I learned from him, in both investing and in life, have helped considerably.
One of my favorite classes of all time. This guy will inspire you to the world of business, international travel, and ignite your curiosity! He may close the door on you in office hours, or deny you on Linked-In, but I respect the hell out of him,. TOUGH GRADER, its very possible you may not get what you feel you earned. If concerned about GPA.
He's a lovely guy if you study and put in the effort. The Midterm and Final is an essay test and if he doesn't like your answers then you will get marked down. Be sure to ask him what he was looking for if you get the answer wrong. Always request your Final because he does not return them to you.
The best thing to do is to keep your head down in class so that he won't call on you. Act like you don't know anything and that what he says is true. Nod your head if he makes eye contact and behave well in class. Never speak up in class or you will be judged and ridiculed.
He's like Colonel Sanders from hell. He contradicts himself constantly, making his class very hard to follow and confusing. He claims to know science and talks about it frequently but in many cases, it is glaringly obvious he doesn't have a good grasp of even the most basic scientific concepts. His class was tedious and pointless.
Definitely hard to understand his lectures. He rambles on about his life experiences and brags about his credentials. We all know what supply and demand is so can we get past that and learn about Economics minus the teachers political views.
Truly One of a Kind! Inspirational in so many ways. If there is another Economics teacher at SBCC take that class instead. Trust the students that have suffered through this guys class.
So far my feeling is that he is going to be difficult to listen to because my religious beliefs do not coincide with his beliefs. He has strong feelings towards people of different nationality and likes to ask what country each student is from which shouldn't matter.
I have to take this class for credit so that I can transfer to UCSB. I am an Environmental Studies major and am hoping to learn about natural resources and the role they play in todays Economy.
I took this class in the summer since it was only a 6-week course. I worked at an investment bank in San Francisco and learned more on the job than in this class. It seemed more like a Political Science course rather than Macroeconomics.
Do yourself a favor and never take this class. His remarks are racist, sexist, and self centered. 75% of class is him bragging about his accomplishments and how hes better than everyone else. Doesn't believe in climate change, doesn't believe that women and men are unequal. You won't actually learn anything, this is a pointless and depressingclass.
Really disappointed to see so many low ratings for professor Naylor. I do not necessarily agree with all of his views, but I at the very least appreciate his standpoint and reasoning. He's smart but conservative, which can be grating to more sheltered kids. If you can get past any conflict of opinion or personality he's a fantastic teacher. :)
In my opinion, Mr. Naylor is an inspirational teacher, who really knows what he is taking about. He has a lot of experience in the area of business, and he gives some very useable advice of how to become succesful when doing business. He has a good sense of humor, however, I can easily assume that not everybody likes his use of irony.
Naylor is a great professor who interacts with the class and has an energy that makes learning and the class enjoyable.
Doesn't make you buy a textbook but buy the notes, $10. Take good notes in class, especially about the examples he gives for each topic. His stories may seem pointless but they all tie together and make everything more understandable. Quizzes are very easy and he gives you all the exam questions from day 1. Most of the answers are handed to you.
I took his Fin 201 class in 2015, but am only now reviewing him. This guy has a massive ego and hates having his opinions challenged. His lectures are also very hard to follow because he's constantly going off on tangents. I did find many of his stories interesting, but that's the only good thing I can say about him.
Being head of his department Mr. Naylor is not reviewed by the school every year or even every three years. It is strange to see so many negative reviews from students and nothing is ever relayed to the board. Maybe it's time for the board to review him again and take a poll from students so that they can hear the truth.
Professor Naylor has a lot of experience within the subject and know what he's talking about, but has boring classes. Even though his stories are inspirational (most of the time), it's easy to loose track in his class. He expects A LOT from us so prepare for a lot of work. Hard tests. He's made it possible to download his book for free.
Naylor is a good teacher with excellent knowledge. He has tons of experience and really knows what he's teaching. Participation is worth 10% of you're grade so you can miss the occasional as long as you email him. All in all great teacher, really got me interested in Econ leaving me wanting to learn more. Do recommend if you like to learn
Naylor is a fantastic professor! He taught with more of a philosophical-social approach rather than mathematical. He is straightforward with his exams and provides fantastic examples in his lectures, making the material easy to understand. You don't need to buy a textbook for this class. Be respectful, don't get on his bad side, and you'll be fine.
Not a good instructor. Always talks down at people in class, makes degrading remarks about girls, his course is poorly organized, doesn't like questions, has an extreme "I'm better than everyone else" attitude, will pick out 1 or 2 favorites in class and tolerate anything from them, and he constantly brags. He is not a fair instructor, avoid him.
It's been over a year since I had a class with Naylor, but I still remember everything from his class crystal clear. He has left such an impact on my education, and sincerely wants you to leave the class with a head full of retained information. I have to credit a lot of my success in other classes to what I learned from Naylor. Thank you always!
I took this awful mans Econ 101 and 102 at SBCC in 1997. Let me say that in retrospect it was a huge waste of time. I ended up transferring to UCLA, got my BA in Economics. I later got into a Phd in Economics at the London School of Economics. If you want a good foundation in Economics, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He doesnt know actual Economics.
Luckily for the future generation of Economics students Mr. Naylor is not teaching any classes at SBCC! It's great to see that the department is turning around.
It is true. As of June 2018 Peter Naylor has officially retired after 30 years. Amazing how time flies. Confident and opinionated for the most part.
Professor Naylor made economics fascinating. He focused on concepts rather than formulas and brought real life experience, examples and local business people into his lectures. I even went back and visited him occasionally over the years to see how he was developing the business Dept. He was a SBCC treasure and I'll be forever grateful!
He likes giving out bad grades to those who challenge him. I petitioned to have his class removed from my transcript and took the class over with another teacher to learn what economics is all about.
