The material is hard, but the professor makes it easy to understand. Very helpful, willing to explain over and over again until you get it, and he's kinda hot! ;)
Told you exactly what to study for every test. Detailed and orderly. He taght enthusiastically and could tell he loved his work. Nice, easy to ask questions. Gives very specific notes. Don't miss class if you can help it. Lot of info but he leads you to victory. Be on time. Lateness is points off.
Great teacher gives you a handout for evey test. Easy to talk to and explains topics you don't understand till you get it.
clear and to the point. Almost always smiling, very cool, and kinda cute. seems so young to be a professor in bio, i'm impressed, way to go professor.
He is the BEST!!! I wish all professors were like him.
Great professor!!!! he gives notes, they are 5 lecture and two lab exams.follow his directions along with class notes and you'll get an 'A'. GOOD LUCK
He is very knowledgable, His teaching method is exceptional, and if you study his notes and go over the review sheets he hands out you will receive an A or better!!!! He's personable, amiable, makes the class interesting, and he genuinely wants the students input. If you take his class and fail it is definetly your fault!!!!
Great Professor! All his notes are in the exam! Make sure you reread the notes with the book as well. Explains everything twice if needed! Does the labs with the class!
Amazing teacher, i'd love to take another class if he's the one teaching it. He gives review sheets so you know exactly what to study, and his notes are great. Aside from that, class is never a bore because he has interesting tidbits. Dorky but in a cute way. Take his class, u'll love it!
A teacher's teacher. A role model for other teachers. He is very knowledgeable and enjoys sharing that knowledge with his students. He tries so hard to help those who fall behind. He reviews and gives you a list of what exactly will appear on each exam. He's a gr8 teacher and I'd enroll in other courses taught by him!
What can I say that hasnt been said already. This guy is the best teacher in the science dept. I wish I had taken him for A&P I and II. Very clear, doesnt try to trick you. He is fair and genuinely a nice guy.
I encourage everybody to take his class. He is one the best professors.
this professor is awesome. he teaches from his notes and you dont have to buy a text book. this guy is very interesting and very easy going. exams are from his notes plus he gives u a review sheet. this guy is highly recommended hes also young and cool.
Peter was fantastic. Always willing to help you out during his office hours or after class. Will try to explain everything to you as best as he can or until he believes that you have understood the material. Incredibly fair in grading and will curb the tests, if necessary. I would love to take his class again.
Tina Turner said it best....HE IS SIMPLY THE BEST....Better than all the rest!!!! He is a great guy and a teriffic teacher. He is amazing and he is very helpful to his students. He does not want you to fail....
Very good Professor, very knowledgable teacher. You have to do study and attend classes to get good grades. Study his notes and you won't fail.
He is a great, knowledgeable professor. Study directly from his notes and you'll do fine. He gives a review sheet for each test. Overall, a great teacher and hot!! =D
Good teacher- he is a fair grader and for the most part, does not try to trick you. He writes all the notes on the board, but you should study his notes and use the book as a reference. I did well, but I studied hard too. 5 exams- drops lowest grade. 4 lab quizzes, dropped lowest grade.
Wow, I really feel like I learned more in his class than through my previous educational experiences. All I wanna know now is: is he married?
For people who want to know the structure of the class & exams. PowerPoint lectures. 5 exams (drops lowest; final is not cumulative), 3 lab quizzes, 1 lab report. Format of the tests were multiple choice, fill-ins, true & false, and matching (body parts). This is not an easy A, you have to study everything and know what you're talking about.
Best prof ever!Hard class but he makes it interesting, gives blueprints 4 exams, study tips, explains clearly, gives personal attn. at office hours if u need help&offers extra research opportunities if ur so inclined.summer class so expected 2 just pass but he gave me a chance 2 do well!Pay attention 2 the post-lab lectures 4 the lab exams.A RARE GEM!
Tests were a bit hard. Tricky questions and fill-ins and the study notes were not really that great. Difficult class with difficult tests. Was an ok professor but not an easy A.
This is not any easy A by any means. He is a good professor but you must work hard to get an A. Gives power points but the text book will help you more. Does not give practice exams only outlines. There are other professors that are way easier and give practice exams. Overall good but tough.
He is defensive when you ask him questions.. He dislikes multiple choice exams so makes his exams painful. Not helpful at all. You are on your own for this class. His power point "notes" are written incorrectly, and are hard to follow. Buy the book and study on your own.
he earned his ph D and he thinks that his students are all professors who graduated or at least juniors in Harvard medical it is waste of time and info that he feeds u nobody needs.Someone said that A is a rare gem, I say that B and C are as rare as it can get.He only gives 8 points on top of your grade which makes it from 51 to 59 that's all folks
DO NOT REGISTER FOR HIM!Power point presentations are usless and u cannot print them because it's only 8 pgs per person, book highly required to understand him, then he also drows something on the board u not gonna understand at all. His tests are 42 qts most of them multiple choice, 5 true and false, 5 fill ins, BUT THERE IS CATCH, all qts tricky
I think for the summer he is a great professor. His test are straight from his notes and he gives study guides. For the summer its alot of info but anyone who takes bio 420 in the summer should expect alot of studying. He explains the material clearly and i will definitely recommend him :)

For those that think he is unfair and unhelpful, you are all lazy and should reconsider ever taking a summer course! He is a great professor and extremely knowledgeable in what he teaches. He shows great interest in his subjects, answers questions (without an attitude) and wants his students to succeed. He curves every exam! Highly recommended!!!
He is a great professor! Expect to work hard and learn a lot from him. He will help you every step of the way, but you have to do your part and study too! You can pass and do well by taking good notes and listening to his lectures. Textbook is not recommended! Awesome professor! Obviously, negative previous comments were all from 1 particular perso
I have no idea why someone rated him so badly. In nature Micro is alot of studying required with ANY professor. Prof. Nguyen is very helpful. He knows and loves what he is teaching. He explains things well and repeat patiently until everyone get it. I took micro same time I do NUR211 (think about what that mean) and I still got an A.
Took him for Microbiology last summer: a disappointing and frustrating experience. He raced through the material, reading from Powerpoint. A nice man, but as a teacher? Seemed to be phoning it in. Curved grades generously. Tests were written with a baffling logic and odd syntax. Here's 80 things to memorize for next week! Each week was like that.
The class bio420 is hard, but at least prof. Nguyen gives multiple choice questions. Exams are tricky but doable. Good explanations, slides and no money spending on the books.
Prof. Nguyen is one great man. I think he is brilliant. As smart as he is, he is equally good hearted and fair. The course is complex and requires really hard work yet he provides every opportunity for his students to excel. And to boot, he is extremely handsome and immensely likeable.
This was not an easy class but not impossible either. You definately need to study and understand the material to do well on the tests. Overall, it was an enjoyable course!
Prof. Nguyen is a great Professor, he cares about his students. What I like most about him is he is straight up and will tell you what he will test you on. I had him for A&P Lab and I had to take him for MicroBio. He doesnt stress out the students and he is very helpful
Hard class...exams were tricky and confusing...labs were easy...he doesn't even count attendance which would probably help your grade...very hard to get an A
If you really want to learn and understand A&P look elsewhere. Otherwise, spend a lot of time w/ the textbook and expect exams that are tricky & harder than the book questions (and for what purpose?) No sample tests/quizzes & "review sheets" are vague, so pointless. No clear idea of expectations. He seems knowledgeable but bored teaching.
The exams are so tricky. He prides himself in making them tricky. He's full of himself. He knows his material and thensome Microbiology wise. But come on dude, were not Micro PHDs for you to give us such tough exams. I'm an honor student with a Bachelor in Science already and had to drop him.
Professor's expectations significantly override his personal input in teaching. The lectures are well done and provide general info. His tests require the ability to play with info. There are no tools to prepare to his tests. Review questions are just the lists of topics. Online test samples do not come even close to his cunning type of questions.
Good professor. You have to study on your own a lot. A lot of memorization. Professor is willing to help whenever you ask a question, or repeat the information you didn't understand
I don't know why people complain so much about him. I think that people just don't study enough, or they are just not smart enough to answer his questions. The power points are more than enough for the class. I rarely used the textbook. I got an A and it was not impossible like some people say. I even think it was easy because he curves a lot
Just finished taking a semester with him. It was challenging, really. But it wasn't impossible. You reap what you sow, so if you study hard, you'll get that A. He is very practical when it comes to lecturing; doesn't give you more information than you need to know. Also applies Microbio to majors relevant to you (ex: nursing). Great guy. Funny too!
Great prof! Knows the subject & loves to teach. Tests are fair. You don't need the book. Just study the powerpoints he gives out. He gives review sheets too. But questions are tricky and the curve is small so you need to know your stuff. He's funny and engaging. It's great to be in a class with a prof who loves to teach. Take him and learn!
Very nice and helpful prof. Def knows the subject and if you ask him anything he answers as best as he can. Professional and patient. His exams are straight forward and if you read his notes and attend class - there is no way you wont get an A. his grading is good too - drops one exam. Got an A and i would retake him if needed. recommending!!
His slides r concise to the point, but I feel like word to word memorizing from the textbook. Thus, it is not going 2 help you 2 understand and 2 remember in a long run. His review sheet is okay, just telling u which chapters to read and some other things you must know 2 prepare for the test.
His tricky question 4 test is due to student lack of time to read his slides carefully and slowly. U must remember the picture from the textbook or bmcc lab book his quizzes He shows u the slide, and u write what this is. If u can't remember then u r screw cuz he does not go back to the previous slide. His quizzes can be much more stressful
His slides are concise, but I feel like word to word memorizing from the textbook. Not recommended for visual learner since his lecture is mostly about slides from blackboard power point presentation. This it is not going to help u to understand n to remover in a long run
He really gets giggles from putting trick questions on quizzes and exams. Exams count for 75% and lab quizzes 25%. A bit hard when he doesn't count ANY other labs done. Doesn't even check them. I guess he's better than the other bio professors, but still not that great. Two hours with him, slides and no student interaction in class. Goes fast too.
Awesome professor!Lectures are interesting. Exams are very straight forward. All you need to do is study the lecture slides. It's recommended that you have them with you during class. He does review sessions before exams and lab quizzes are mostly questions from the lab manual. And yes, he's very good looking :)
(summer 2014) Prof. Nyugen is a very helpful and teaches well (very intelligent). His questions are bit tricky if you don't pay attention. Explains well and answers to all questions. Make sure to record his lectures and STUDY. No textbook required. If you are lazy and want an easy A then don't take him. He is one of the best Professors in BMCC.
Awesome Professor. You have to study. Everything is based on his power point and his lecture. His exams are not easy but if you are not lazy you will get a good grade. You will learn a lot from this professor, not just passing an exam. Drops your lowest grade for lecture.
His class was not too easy but if you take good note and study hard you will get easy A. His exam was hard and tricky so be good prepared. I give him 5 stars, great professor.
He goes way too fast on his lectures and is a very boring professor. His test are extremely hard..
Peter Nguyen's Microbiology class is simple and clear-cut in its format: Study his lecture slides very well and take thorough notes and you will be MORE THAN FINE on his exams. Does he have tricky questions on his texts? YES. BUT, if you pay close enough attention to him when we speaks in lecture, you will catch the subtleties.
GOOD Professor,VERY easy going. He lectures well, very knowledgeable.
Professor Nguyen is an excellent professor. Very helpful and doesn't mind answering the questions asked and making sure you understand. He's very helpful. His test requires listening to his lectures and reading his slides. He ask questions that requires you to think. Will be looking forward to taking him for microbiology.
In other reviews students said his test are tough they are not. If you pay attention in class and study his power point presentations and follow his guidance you will do well. Remember this is college don't expect to be spoon fed. If you don't understand something just ask.
I was an A student before entering his class.I would definitely drop this professor If I had the opportunity again. His slides wasn't helpful because it's a copy and paste from the textbook we hardly used. He goes way to fast in his lectures and not interested if his students can't keep up.
I had Mr Nguyen for micro and let me tell you, the lectures were boring and also long. He teaches straight out of ppt presentations. plz hang on to his every word, ask q's if youre confused because the tests were tricky and you must be alert and pay attention to detail while he teaches. if you can, record the class. lab was an easy A :)
Peter is a great Professor!!! One of the best Professors at BMCC. He explains all the concepts with clarity, and gives good feedback. If you can, try to record his lectures, and read the textbook along with the slides. STUDY HARD!!!
Prof Nguyen is the best professor I've had so far at BMCC. He's extremely passionate, been doing this a long time, and every lecture is fresh and inspired. Any professor who is engaged enough to mention after 3 hours of intense lecturing "That was a good class, don't you think?" has my vote. He knows the material. The exams are tough, but fair.
The days are numbered, by the way, of students who expect to just waltz in whenever they feel like it, don't study, don't do well, then expect concessions for their lack of discipline. This is a college level course. You're lucky it's not harder than it is.
Took as summer course. His attitude when you asked a question for clarification would be responded with an eye roll or a respond like, "I just said this". very tricky worded test questions. very vague; says to not read powerpoint but talks about it during lecture. Does curve and drop lowest test. He's passionate about the subject, but not to teach.
This class was very hard. But the subject itself that is hard. Professor is clear yet tests were harder than expected. I studied 50-100 hours per test & still only got an A-. I did walk away feeling like I learned something & the subject matter is VERY interesting. Do not expect to breeze through if you 'have EXCEPTIONAL study skills
He explains things good and gives examples. However, he goes too fast. Exams are extremely tricky, multiple choice, true or false and short answer questions. He's not horrible but, he does not give u enough time, to process what you've learned for his exams. He have this look when u ask him a question he already went over, he's slightly annoyed.
Took micro with him in the summer. It was alot of reading and memorizing but to me it was great. Class was interesting. All multiple choice question. No lab reports. Just read and study hard for exams. Curves and drops lowest grade.
If I could take every science class with him I would. If you attend the class and study, there isn't a reason to not pass. The exams are difficult and questions can get tricky but there won't be anything he didn't explain during the lecture. He makes jokes to lighten up the heavy load. He seems to enjoy his job and that's important to me.
AMAZINGGG!!!! Wish I could take every science course with him. He's very clear on his information, his power-points great and simplify the textbook for you, record his lectures and listen when studying really helped me
*claps claps claps* amazing professor!! Really gears his teaching with hopes the class will do well and we did. Class loved him.
Straight fwd. No trick questions. Easy lay out. Does focus on slides but at least you know what to expect he doesnt go off on a tangent. You leave knowing there is no intelligent design
Professor Nguyen is extremely knowledgeable, he always has extra information to give. However, if you ask a question, he pretty much talks down on you and makes you feel dumb. The questions on his test are vaguely worded and are heavy on his slides. He does give slight curves and extra credit though. I'm just not digging his attitude.
Great professor drops lowest grade curves and also gives you extra credit
Prof. Nguyen is amazing. A&P is not easy, you have to study and make sure you go through his slides because his tests are straight from knowing them. Tests are fair, drops the lowest grade. He is very nice and gives extra credit. He gives extra info and loves what he does. Take him, you will enjoy learning as much as I did and you will learn a lot.
He is not a great at providing knowledge, rather he reads from slides. If you are good at reading/studying/note taking on your own without relying on lectures much - you can take his class. I found his test questions to be tricky and confusing. His grading is fair - gives extra credit opportunities. Not a great person to ask questions too!
ts really a combination of both. Yes he is a fair professor because every test that he has given is from the lectures BUT if ur already having problems with the course, twisting the words around doesnt help. Definitely didnt give students enough time to process the info. If you only take his class for the semester then you will pass
If you can, take a different Professor for micro. Lectures incredibly fast. Catches an attitude when questioned and offers rushed explanations. Not very responsive when it comes to emails and took a month to return a graded extra credit report. Exam questions are unnecessarily tricky, but he does curve and offers extra credit opportunity. Avoid him
he made unnecessary difficult test. i recommend you better take other proferssor .
I gotta say, with this professor it was a rocky start, however this turned around rather quickly. Professor Nguyen is an exceptional professor, he goes above and beyond to ensure students pass. 10/10 would recommend.
Bro stop listening to students that didn't do anything on their end... this is college YOU HAVE TO STUDY... he literally says It from the start I can help you and teach you but if you're not doing your part you will not pass! He's a great professor I would love to take him again he helps you out a lot and even gave so many extra credit work.
He is awesome! Can be a little condescending when you ask questions but once you get past that he is awesome!Super clear and very helpful!
Professor Nguyen is.. hm... Lots can describe him. Tests are very application-heavy. Not only do you need to know the topic, but you need to be able to apply it abstractly for his exam questions. I do not feel as if he prepares us well for the exams. He's a great guy, but class is tough. Though it is upper-level bio...
Dr. Nguyen's exams are straight from his lecture notes. He won't try to trick you. He expects you to study a lot because the material is dense. His quizzes are directly from his study guides and lab assignments are free points. His exams/quizzes are out of 106/105 points so there are 5-6 extra credit points. He takes forever to grade though.
Professor Nguyen is very passionate about microbiology but it was sometimes hard to follow along in his lectures. He goes fast and if someone didn't understand a concept he'd be a tad snarky like we should understand this dense material immediately. His tests weren't easy. Studied like crazy for the final and somehow pulled off an A- in the class.
Professor Nguyen is very understanding, caring and a great professor over all. He cares for his students so if you are putting in the due effort, he will see it. He wants everyone to do good therefore if you are doing what you need to be doing, you'll enjoy his class. I appreciate professors like him and I am very glad I took this course with him.
Easy grader, extra credit, almost no assignments, if you want get into nursing program and get better grades take him!
he was a pretty good teacher, gives you a review sheet of what is definitely going to b on tests. drops one exam, can be final exam too. about 5 tests and 3 quizzes. i went to lecture and dosed off or fell asleep LOL, but just studying the lectures and watching yt vids on the chapters was enough to get an A and slay the class fr frrrrr
He's a great professor and definitely wants to help you pass, but his tests focus a lot more on the application of the topics than anything else. Trying to understand how the processes discussed in lecture work is your best bet, so if you can do that it's an easy A.
Professor Nguyen is a great professor when it comes to lecturing and explaining the material to his students. His exams come straight from the powerpoint and his reviews. He provides us with extra credit and drops your lowest exam grade. This class is not easy by any means! Be ready to put in the work if you want an A!
He's a relaxed professor, although he might seem a bit strange when you ask questions. His tests can be challenging, but you don't need to buy the textbook. Just focus on his PowerPoint slides. He gives extra credit for each exam and will drop your lowest score.
This professor is unique. His lectures are boring, reads from slides, gets annoyed, when u ask him questions. Exams study guides are useless. four exams are tricky, with lots of shortvanswers; the lowest score is dropped. in labs, he doesn't demonstrate anything & gives quizzes; not responsive to e-mails. Avoid him if you're going into nursing.
Decided to take his class based on r.m.p reviews. I have no regrets. Fair grader and best professor you could get for a difficult course like microbio. Bad reviews are from students who are looking for As they dont deserve. Im not a gifted student but he gives you the blueprint of how to pass his class. Put in the work and you will definitely pass
Professor Nguyen's class is challenging but manageable if you put in the effort. His tests focus on applying concepts, so understanding the material well is key. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for me - it really helped with practice questions and study prep.
His study guides are useless and his exams make no sense as they aren't based off his slides. Took the class because of rmp reviews but it was a mistake. I suggest taking another professor
Despite the fact that I did very well in the class, I would like to make it very clear that I do not recommend taking professor Nguyen for microbiology. He isn't a bad person, but his poor communication skills combined with his extremely bizarre and specific test question style made the class unbearable.
He does get annoyed if you ask “obvious” questions. Randomly changed the amount of questions on exams towards the end semester. Everything was on the slides but you really had to study everything bc you never knew what you would see on the exams. He did explain things in a way you can understand. Exams weren't too difficult.
I took him for ap 1 bio he is the best. i study using his slides and the study guide. Lab exams were straightforward. There are bonus questions in the exam and he drops the lowest lec exam. I recommend him, you need to put in the effort if you want to succeed!
I cried more than 10 times this semester thinking I'm 100% failing. His exams are super specific and confusing. Thought I'd fail, but exam 4 was short (2 chapters), and the final can boost your grade if you grind hard (90 diseases).
I am shocked at how poorly these ratings reflect Professor Nguyen. His exams are an easy format. But if you want to get an A you will be struggling for it. If you don't study you'll probably get a C easily. Hence the good ratings. He never replies to emails and is annoyed if you ask him any questions in class or in office hours.
Awful teaching style. Reads from the slides and does no teaching. When asked whats on the exam says study everything. Boring lectures and not engaging.
While he is not the worst teach I have ever taken he is up there. He does the bare minimum. He is a chill dude. I saw plenty of students that have missed deadlines or quizzes get a pass and lets them resubmit. If you have it together in college he will not make your life easier. You'll have to self study and memorize the textbook to get an A.
His lectures are long he explains a lot. HW saved me; they're lab-based. His exams are based on lecture (fair), and lab quizzes are hard. Pay attention during labs!! Labs were fun, no lab reports. He will answer questions. I could have done better if I studied more. He drops one exam, btw. No curve.
4 exams besides final, final is not cumulative (just based on the last three chapters). If you get an A before final, you dont have to take it. A little boring class but he is a great person, besides that you have to study a lot by yourself since everything goes to the exam. Exams are fair but you do HAVE to study. He gives extra credit in exams
