Extremely friendly and good-hearted, will work with you to make sure you learn the material. Normally teaches just freshman chem labs--great for those too!
Good guy!Explains labs very well before the experiment.
not a fair grader
Always helpful. Wants the students to understand the chem labs.
His door is always open and he is willing to listen and help with any of the chemistry problems you have. don't hesitate to go to him for help! he can help you understand it all better
Not very helpful. Referred me to the TA who does not know what he is doing. They always say they are too busy to help.
wow. this guy is considered my professor and ive never met him. strange
Look, this is Chem Lab for Pre Med/Vet/Pharm?etc students. You are NOT going to skate by on BS work. Dr P will help whenever you need it, you just have to ask. Don't ask FOR the answer- ask HOW you can undestand so that YOU can figure out the answer. As for him being your Prof. The way College lab works is a Prof is over the TA's who lead labs.
Padolik stayed over 2 hours helping me because my lab chemicals were contaminated. If thats not dedication then I don't know what is. Every single time Ive had a question he was there.
He wasn't around during lab, but if you have a question you can simply walk into his office without an appointment and he explains everything clearly. Helped me ALOT during the year. TA's are useless during lab, but very helpful during office hours.
I LOVE Dr. Padolick! He is the most awesome teacher ever. I hate labs but he explains things really well and is always willing to answer any questions.
The chemistry labs are difficult but he is very appraochable and always had an open door he really is very understanding and eager to help. Would highly recommend him
He explains the labs pretty well in the pre lab so make sure your not late, because he basically tells you what is going to happen in an experiment before you do it. Alot of the TA's are foreign which doesnt help when you dont know what your doing and they cant speak or explain well. make sure you get extra help if you easily get confused.
I would have liked it if the prof. was more involved in actual lab. After 2 hrs. of confusion in lab and the useless T.A.s I never had time to go to his office, espically if you did the experiment wrong. I eventually started asking classmates with help, and that kind of helped.
I've never even seen him before thats how uninvolved he is. His useless TA's do nothing yet are supposed to run the entire lab. Don't expect to know whats ever going on since the class is so confusing.
Freshman chem labs are extremely difficult. I have never seen Padolik in my life because he's NEVER THERE. His TA's do everything but don't know how to explain it & don't speak English (worthless). No instruction and complete chaos every lab. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO!!!
Chem labs are the hardest and most worthless classes I've ever taken. Complete lack of instruction & chaos every lab. Website used SUCKS. You'll be furious, confused, and stressed. Padolik is never there & TA's are pointless. This makes me NOT want to be a science major. DO NOT TAKE!!
i thought that the class was pretty easy. he always went through the experiment first and then we split off into smaller groups. the GOB lab was pretty easy and made the lectures a lot more understandable. the ta's were terrible and did not speak much english, but he always answered emails quickly.
I didn't think chem lab was that bad. And contrary to what other people on here say, he's actually more involved than the "prof" for freshman biology lab. Failing all else, he's reliable when you need him. The website is a nightmare, but I don't think that's all his fault. Chem TA's at UC are pretty much all-around bad. It's not his problem. Take.
I think he is an average prof. I think he has really tried to improve his attendance this year because he has been to every class and explained in detail what to do before each lab. I do not like his quizzes however and I personally didn't think the website was terrible. Just make sure you DEFINITELY know the answers before entering them online!
Lab work is relatively easy. TA's are nice but NONE OF THEM SPEAK ENGLISH. I can't understand any of them. Online submission of chem labs are extremely hard, if you're answer is not completely right, you get 0 points. It's 10/10 or 0/10.. If you can avoid chem lab, I would highly advise that.
The website's not great, but as a proessor he's helpful and always has an open door.
I have him for Chemistry Lab and he seems to be alright. I haven't had the change to talk to him one on one but he is always sending out helpful e-mails. The lab is basically pass/fail. If you are there, you do the lab and fill out the chem21 work. If you know what you are doing in lab, the chem21 work is a piece of cake.
Lab professor whose teacher assistants don't speak English very well. They also don't really understand the labs that we are supposed to be doing. The Lab website is also terrible to use because it won't let you fix your answers. I do not recommend.
Definitely read the labs before doing them, it'll save you time later. Dr. Padolik was very flexible for making up a lab on a different day. TA's grade very easily and the labs are very systematic and organized using the MeasureNet system to collect data. Safety is also very important in the lab, so try not to get yelled at by the other professors!
great teacher really funny and nice, easy to understand, dont be afraid to ask questions. didn't use the book at all but used the owl assignments every week so i would recommend just getting that and save yourself 30 bucks. easy grader and easy quizzes if you do the homework. would recommend.
I really like him. He doesn't take part in lab, but his office is right across the hall and very easy to stop in with questions before or after lab! Always points in the right direction to get full credit on Chem21labs. The TAs on the other hand aren't very helpful, don't speak English, and are always late on grading. Go straight to his office!
Padolik has never actually come into class, instead all questions go to the TAs. As long as you read the labs thoroughly and carefully follow the directions, the class shouldn't be very difficult. All assignments and reports are online and normally graded late by the TA's. Overall, I'd recommend Padolik for anyone taking lab.
I liked him as a teacher. He moves fast but noting impossible. The guy is super smart and knows chemistry like the back of his hand. Best part of the class is he doesn't use clickers and usually one homework assignment per chapter. Only bad thing i could say about the class is he only teaches lectures during the evening.
Genuinely cares about his students and will go the extra mile to make sure they understand the information. He's a pretty cool guy, would recommend!
For chemistry CLASSES Dr. Padolik is ABSOLUTELY the instructor you want to have. Lectures are boring but are not mandatory (go anyway). Tons of extra credit. Quizzes are easy. Exams are reasonable (READ THE BOOK BEFORE EXAMS). Very helpful when you need it. Don't choose a different instructor just to make your schedule more convenient.
Had for GOB chem lab. Took time to explain the procedure before lab started and gave notes for the lab. One of the TAs were not helpful and when they did not show on the drawer checkout, he took over until the other TA could finish up.
Petey P. was the best college professor I've had thus far. His lecture notes are clear and concise and he is always there to help out his students. Honestly, I went to the lectures, but if I hadn't, reading Dr. Paddog's lecture notes would have easily taught me the material outside of class. He also looks like Walter White and plays in a band.
Dr. Padolik literally saved my grade. Had him for chemistry lab for Chem1 and Chem2. During the end of semester project, my group partners used wrong data because they didn't feel like doing work and messed up the whole project (worth 30%). Dr. P let me come in and redo their part, thus saving my grade. HOORAH DR. P.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE DR. PADOLIK. He makes chemistry enjoyable and is always super willing to help you outside of class. I was sick a lot in the semester I had him and he really worked with me to get back on track. The day of the final he knew I was stressed and kept giving me encouraging thumbs up throughout the exam. Such a cool teacher
Great Professor. Gives clear explanations. Very helpful both in class and during office hours. I hope he teaches Organic Chemistry as well and that would save the entire department's reputation.
He is a really good professor. The learnsmarts are extra credit. He is always willing to help in class and in lab.
Dr. Padolik is not only a great professor (Take him for Gen Chem Lecture!), he is one of my favorite people at UC. I go to his office quite often with random, nerdy questions and he is always happy to answer them. He also encouraged me when I was in crisis and doubting my abilities. Thinking of switching from Engineering to Chemistry b/c of him.
He's pretty funny during classes. The exam is pretty tough as they are mainly short answer questions.
One word: Awesome. He is one of my favorite professors. He gets to know every student by name. I was one of the lucky few who got him for both Chem I and II lecture. He's genuine and hilarious. Highly highly highly recommend.
I had Dr. Padolik for chem1041 & lab. He was friendly, made lecture interesting, & gave plenty of study resources. He was (and still is) very approachable outside of class and was happy to answer any questions or help with lab reports even outside of office hours. If you take chem1041 or lab, I would highly recommend taking his class.
Chem I Lab has an outrageous amount of work inside and outside of lab for only being one credit hour. My only experiences with Padolik have been bad - he asked me to make an appointment with him, was nearly 20 minutes late to it, didn't even remember scheduling and appt for that time, and was rude and unhelpful (he is the same when he visits lab)
I had Padolik for Gen Chem and Chem Lab. He's a very good professor and knows his stuff. His lectures are interesting and he's hilarious as well. Highly recommended.
Dr. Padolik is a G. Easily the best Gen Chem professor at the university. I had him for the night lecture (6:00-7:20) and I thought it was gonna suck. Honestly, I'm so glad I had him because he explains things very well and he's hilarious. Also, he does some cool demos as a break midway into class. You will go quick, but you will know your stuff.
Let's be honest, chem lab sucks. There's no way around it. As an engineer or most other science majors, you are required to take Gen Chem 1 with lab. Just do it and get it over with. The lab report website is atrocious and crashes sometimes deleting all your work if you didn't hit submit. I don't attribute any of it to Padolik though. He's awesome
This subject is tough enough without a professor like this. Although he's very open and loves to meet new students, visiting him during office hours is not alwas as helpful as it should be. During lecture his voice is so monotone its difficult to pay atention and retain things from class and he moves through the material quite fast.
Padolik was an awesome professor! I didnt spend a whole lot of time with him mainly because our lab was split into two different rooms, and my section was with the TAs. Every class you meet in the same room and he does demos, super nice guy. Very understanding and he responds fast. If you have any questions hes the guy, would recommend 10/10.
This professor seems great in the beginning but watch out for his grading scale. It will screw you over. He seems easy because he doesn't make you memorize certain things that the other chemistry professors do but you have to know that for the final. He also will say things are worth so many points and then take them away. Also he does not round up
Chem lab is awful in and of itself. The website is awful. Get to know your TA, they will be your best friend when you need help. Padolik showed up maybe once or twice to lab and any email we got from him was extremely sassy. I had lab at 7:30pm which was very inconvenient and we got screwed over on fall break when we still had lab Wed night.
Chem lab sucks and there is no way around it. That being said this lab is taught by TA's and the experience of the class rests in the balance of how nice your TA is. I've only seen Padolik once during the semester, although his emails are really funny actually.
First off, Dr. Padolik is one of the funniest professors I've ever had. He's very easy going and gets problems solved ASAP. I had Conghui as my Chem 1041L TA and she was one of THE best TAs I've had as well. She gave great instruction and I felt as though she really knew the material. She was so sweet and helpful. I really recommend her!
Very fast paced if you decide to take it during the summer. TA's do help a lot if you have questions.
His lectures are really good, he's very knowledgeable and does demonstrations most classes to make it less boring. He also doesn't take attendance and posts the powerpoints online so you don't have to show up to class.
Chem Lab is a pain to deal with no matter the major. It involves lots of confusion, chaos, and worse sometimes the TAs dont know what theyre doing. The TAs and mainly your own effort really affect how well you do in Lab. Padolik himself is a great guy, hes funny and his office is very often open for questions, which is on the lab floor.
He is a nice man; if you accidentally miss an assignment, if you go to see him he will help you out. That being said, his T.A's grade everything, and they are ridiculously tough graders. He talks for a long time before you can actually start the lab.
Way too much stuff to do on chem21 outside of class, at least 5 hours per lab and it's the kind of work that you have to do it all in one sitting. He's also kind of a d!ck in emails.
He's a super chill professor who's always willing to help out students and answer questions.
Dr. Padolik is a class act, he structures his class in a way to help people achieve good grades in a challenging course. He offers extra credit and offers to replace the lowest test score with the heavily curved final exam score if found to be better. He actively works out the problems and is the PRINCE OF PARTIAL CREDIT! Well worth the night class
We were given learnsmart as mandatory homework which was useless but he made them extra credit now. That was my only real complaint, but otherwise a good, involved teacher. Demonstrations were always fun and even though lecture at night put me to sleep sometimes, he enjoyed what he was doing and put you in a place to succeed. Doesn't answer emails.
I loved taking Chem 1 with Prof. Padolik. He gives very good lectures and is easily accessible outside of class. I definitely recommend taking chemistry with him.
Although he is a very caring and hilarious man, it is very difficult to pay attention during his lectures. He just reads off a powerpoint and does little to engage with the students. This class will be extremely for you though if you're good at chemistry. A lot of people don't show up to class because attendance isn't mandatory.
If you want a Lab Professor who will help you, be clear and concise, and be willing to spend time making sure you and your class know whats going on. Padolik is not your guy. He came in to our classroom once all semester. He leaves everything to the TAs. So it all depends on how nice of a grader yours is. Padolik does nothing for you.
Most of Dr. P's TAs are foreign, not a prblm, but thick accents can be hard to understand and information is not clearly communicated. Chem 21 is fine if you work ahead, TAs r very helpful if you ask them questions. Cut the TAs some slack, there needs to be more communication between them and Dr. P Stressful because lack of organization. Easy A doe
Overall, a good instructor. If you attend his classes and put your work up into action, you'd be good throughout the semester. It can get boring at times, but he does experiments in class too. Cool and hilarious. Easily accessible and respected. Attending lectures won't mean you have nothing to do at your home. Few extra-credit opportunities too.
Dr. Padolik stepped foot into our lab maybe twice over the entire semester and handed off all of the work onto the TAs, which some of them are great but others not so much. Chem21 is quite a bit of work and the grading rubric is tough.
You never see the professor, he seems nice just you never see him.
Dr. Padolik doesn't show up in labs very often, most of the instruction is delegated to the TAs but he's still happy to help. He responds to emails quickly, is willing to help you through the work, and knows his stuff.
I was not able to learn much in his class since it was online due to 'rona. I used CourseHero to cheat my way through the lab reports since his post-lab powerpoints were unclear. It sure is an easy A, but if you're hoping to learn something about chemistry, you'll find this class to be disappointing. He takes forever to upload and grade assignments
I had Dr. Padolik for lab and lecture and he is such a sweetheart! He is super fun in class and will work with you after class. The class is not to difficult if you keep up with the material and go to lectures. Labs are usually very self explanatory and run smoothly.
Dr. Padolik was very accessible by email and willing to answer the questions of students when needed. I didn't have him for lecture, but found having him for both Gen Chem labs was a good experience.
Chem Lab is extremely unclear and you never even see Pete. They should not put his name as the instructor if he is never there. An instructor is expected to be there and answer questions. Peter doesn't do either. He makes the class miserable.
You never see the professor in lab. He seems nice and willing to answer any questions. The PowerPoints and labs are sometimes confusing. Another thing is the online lab report, Chem21 is unfair with grading. Be careful when uploading a number. If youre a decimal point off or having a rounding error it will take off points. Grading is slow
Padolik, himself was nice and funny. But his TA's teach the actual lab and most of them were rude and did not like to help. All of the labs were chaotic and rushed. I think I accidentally posted this twice.
Responds to emails to help on the online labs quickly. He's a very slow grader and chem21 is less than flattering cause it marks every data entry wrong. However, his videos for the pre-labs and procedures are as good as they can be. He's not a bad choice at all if there are no other good chemistry lab professors.
I've only ever seen him once, so your lab experience truly depends on your TAs (mine was nice and helpful). He has prelab powerpoints and procedure videos but they do not teach very well and I was still left confused. Chem21 is a pain and the procedures are written in a very convoluted way. pretty much figure it out on your own with little help
Taken as hybrid section during covid: Dr. Padolik makes great videos for the lab preparation and his course materials are excellent, however, I never saw him once and the course is pretty much run by the TAs. My TA was helpful and answered emails quickly, however this can differ between TAs. Chem21labs is easy to use but unforgiving, TAs will help.
Prof Padolik Never showed up to class. The one time he did he was rude and condescending. The TA's are very helpful and really the only instruction you receive in the class comes from them. Padolik also didn't put a single grade in until the very last minute before grades were due. Its a pretty easy class, but you have to learn on your own.
He walked into class & asked how we were doing, TAs told him we were struggling, nodded his head & walked out, never saw him again. The TAs were awesome and extremely helpful but he was not approachable with any issues. The class is semi easy to pass, show up do the lab, fill out the confusing reports & you pass. videos dont match questions though
Most of the grading is done by the TA's and the class is mainly run by the TA's as well.
I had this professor during corona. It was a hybrid class. The labs were chaotic to say the least and its down to luck if your TA is good or not. The only time I saw Padolik was when I had to pay the $25 for the bad website we have to use to turn everything in. All I can say is give yourself A LOT of time to finish labs and do pre work.
Dr. Padolik is a pretty chill guy, but Ive taken 2 of his labs and Ive talked to him for maybe a total of 3 minutes. All of the instruction is done by the TAs for the class, who can vary heavily on quality. A lot of the lab reports are confusing and nothing gets graded for weeks so it is impossible to know what you need to improve on in the lab.
This was a terrible class to have during covid-19. This proffesor was usually unhelpful and let his TAs slip behind in grading. The labs were set up very poorly with no real communication.
I took this class as half online and half in person. Chem21 is how reports are completed, and it can be very confusing and unforgiving. Dr. Padolik never showed up to lab, and the only reason I saw him in person was because I had to talk to him about something. If you email him about something, he's very helpful. The class is run by the TAs, though
I've only ever seen Padolik when the door to his office happened to be open. Other than that, the entire class is run by the TAs, and they aren't the most helpful. Chem lab is easily the worst college class I've ever taken. The communication is horrible and the grading is harsh. In one word, it's a mess.
The grading and labs are purely done by TA's, so how you do is really down to how good your TA is. The times I did email the professor, he responded quickly, and the pre-lab videos helped a done.
Good lab prep videos! Barely showed up in class, mainly taught by TA's. Grade will be dependent on how your TA will grade the labs. Labs are long and sort of confusing if you don't the videos before hand. Chem21 website was confusing.
it's not the professor. the course itself is very demanding in lab reports and preparations prior to labs.
The labs are led by TA's who don't know what they are doing. They grade extremely specifically and don't know how to answer questions. Dr. Padolik is never there unless a TA can't show up though he will answer questions through email. If you get a good TA you will be fine but if you don't good luck.
He never comes at all, just taught by the TAs and you cant even understand them tbh. the lab reports are very strict with grading. dont take him
This is the most chaotic class Ive ever had the misfortune of taking. I never even met the professor as the class is entirely run by the TAs. Most of the TAs dont know whats going on at any given time, and got help you if you try to understand any explanation they do give. Also, nothing is ever graded in a reasonable amount of time!
Dr. Padolik is one of the most helpful professors I have had. I have him for my General Chemistry 2 lab. I missed so many labs due to mental health problems and he has been beyond kind and understanding about me making them up. Some of the TA's grade tougher than others, but overall Padolik is the ideal lab prof.
Good professor. The course content is inherently dry but he explains things clearly. A lot of the class was review of high school chemistry, overall pretty easy.
Yes he's never there in lab, but the professors don't do much in lab's anyways (it was pretty much a similar story for Ochem and instrumental analysis labs). Grading criteria is pretty strict, which was also the same for the rest of the lab classes I've taken.
It's freshman chem lab, you won't ever see your lab professor, your grade is up to your TA so do what you need to for them to like you and pass. Read the labs before you walk into class otherwise you'll be clueless, partner with someone you trust or you'll have double the work. DO NOT miss lab, your grade will drop significantly, retake if needed.
Its a lab of course TAs run it, I dont know why everyone is shocked hes not there. I thought he was helpful otherwise, he makes modules explaining the lab and includes a procedure video (watch it before every class). After lab you write a report on chem21labs and each section is outlined so its really simple. I got an A both semesters.
Padolik's pre-lab and procedure videos are really well done and if you watch them, you should have no trouble completing the experiments in class. He isn't present during the labs, but he's always available during office hours. He's extremely helpful if you have any questions or concerns. Don't be afraid to reach out to him.
When I think of a 1 credit hour class, I initially thought that it would be fun and easy. The class was chaotic, confusing, and frankly useless relating to CHEM1040. There was only a couple of TAs for around 70 students, which made it hard to get enough help. The instructions can be vague which leaves experiments and data left to interpretation.
You will literally never see him in your life unless you have a makeup lab. My roommate and I frequently laughed at his Canvas announcements though and think he is the funniest man alive. I am obsessed. He will answer your emails, so don't be afraid. Only met twice after having him two semesters lol
Take the time to go to Dr. P office. He's is willing to help students with lab report questions. The reports take a few hours, but Dr. P is happy to double check your work or help you with a question your stuck on. The labs themselves are said to be 3 hours but rarely go over 2 hours. The TAs grade your reports and can be knit picky.
- Dr. Padolik has clear expectations and answers emails promptly. - The TAs help you perform each experiment. - Using Chem21 for lab reports is not enjoyable because you lose points for very small errors.
He is very disrespectful, when you ask him a question he acts like you are very stupid and always has an attitude, 0/10 wouldn't recommend
The lab is run by TAs, but Dr. Padolik is willing to help if you go to his office. He will sit down with you and help you with a problem even if you just show up. The TAs for his labs are helpful too.
hes very nice but his class is hard. he doesnt teach the information well. he curves/changes the weight of the tests to try to help grades, but his tests are HARD. theyre usually only 20-25 questions so if you only miss a couple then you already get a bad grade. theres not many smaller assignments to help boost your grade. VERY test heavy.
we never even met him in lab, i dont know who he is and the TAs are really bad. they didnt grade a single assignment the whole semester and i had an F until the last second when they finally decided to grade everything- so i didnt know my grade in order to improve it the whole semester.
This professor seems like he feels obligated to respond to your emails, no matter the context. He barely even showed up in the lab in the full semester of my General Chemistry lab, and all communication I have had with him seemed forced. His responses included just copying and pasting the directions from Canvas. But he's like the only option so...
I didn't see Peter all semester. You have TA's running your lab. My TAs at least were very slow graders and very slow to answer emails. Dr. Padolik is quick to answer emails though. The labs themselves are boring for the most part but had fun working in the group I got. Pick your group well.
He was as absent throughout the semester as my final grade is now. The entire class is run solely by TAs and he never made an appearance. The TAs are extremely slow and lazy graders, our last lab was 2 weeks ago and over half my labs are still not graded. You have no clue of you're grade and if you are fearful of failing, there's nothing you can do
The lab was run by TA's and graded by TA's, so it is difficult to give Padolik a rating. I met him and he seems pretty nice, but your TA is much more important than your professor in this class.
Class is entirely run by TAs, some of which are not knowledgeable enough to fix equipment issues or answer procedural questions. Grading is very slow and differs from each TA. I do not even know what Dr. Padolik looks like because he was not seen in any lab periods. I will say he gives decent material on Canvas.
I only saw Professor Padolik three times during the entire semester. Overall, his pre-lab material was miserable and I lost focus around five seconds after he started talking. The answers for the pre-lab quizzes were also extremely hard to decipher. For a introductory chemistry course, this was one of the worst experiences I've had as a student.
You rarely see the professor so how you do in this class is dependent on your TA. The lab equipment is old and rarely works which causes so much frustration. The TA's never grade things on time so you don't know your final grade until the very end of the semester. The lab procedures can be difficult to follow so watch the procedure videos posted.
Few things have frustrated me as much as this class has. The Chem21 website looks like it was made in the 90's and is slow and extremely strict on dumbest of things. The class is entirely an by TA's, I don't even know what he looks like. This class is straight up a waste of time, none of it has applied to my Chem course at all. You won't enjoy this
I have seen him one of two times, and the classes are run by TA's ONLY who more than half of the time have no clue what is going on. The TA's have very thick accents and it is hard to understand them. Peter Padolik needs new TA's or simply needs to be present in the lab for assistance. He also grades NOTHING till the end of he semester.
The chem 21 website is awful and I want to cry when I use it. It literally makes you want to jump into acid. It will take off points for simple math mistakes regardless because it's a computer with no feelings. The TA's except for a few, never know what is happening. In office hours, half the TA's need help from he other TA's. Please take care.
Professor Padolik answers most of the questions through email because he doesn't attend classes. Even though it took some time for him to respond, his responses were helpful and direct.
This man literally never showed up to class. The lab is ran by TAs, and they do not know what they are doing most of the time. A lot of the lab equipment was old and broken. He literally does not do anything. I don't understand what he gets paid to do. The TAs are sometimes very picky with grading, and his class was just an unorganized catastrophe.
I have never spoken to Dr. Padolik, but his TA's made his class much more difficult than it needed to be. I didn't know my grade until the last day of the semester since the TA's didn't grade my labs until then. Grading is pretty tough, so put effort into the lab reports and you'll be fine!
The reviews I put here are directly towards the TA's as I don't know how to express this enough. Overall, the professor was generally useful in the help and guides he would post on Canvas although I've never seen him before. As for the TA's, they seem to not have any clue of what's going on and or how to help my group whatsoever.
Very work heavy class. Prof. never is in class and TAs do all the work. Lab reports are long and tedious, often with unclear instructions and very strict grading. My TA was great, but not infallible and sometimes mistakes would lead to needing to redo the whole lab. VERY HARD CLASS.
The chem labs in general were not very interesting to me. It's all taught by TAs who don't know what they're doing, however. One lab report a week but it takes such a long time to do. If you do email Peter though he will respond in a very timely manner and he is very understanding when it comes to group members not doing anything.
The professor leaves and the class is taught by the TAs. The instructions/lab reports are not straightforward and very confusing.
All of the labs are taught by TAs so your millage will very, but the instruction given directly from Dr. Padolik is very confusing and outdated. It is clear that the instructions were written by someone who is very well versed in chemistry, and it leaves out basic information that non-chem people won't get.
Dr. Padolik was fine himself, but his class was terrible. The TAs are waaaay overworked and underpaid, they really had no idea what they were doing or how to explain the concepts, and it took months to get assignments graded. This lab was a miserable experience and a ridiculous amount of work for a one credit hr class.
Chem lab has been the worst experience of my college career thus far. Padolik left the lab within 5 minutes and left everything to the TAs who barely knew anything and clearly didn't want to talk to us. Confusing instruction that almost needs to be deciphered to be understood. I emailed Padolik one time and he had a very assertively rude tone.
I rarely saw Dr. Padolik but the few times I did, he was very helpful and nice. His procedure videos were helpful as were his pre-labs. The only downside was that the labs were ran by TAs and your grade was dependent on those TAs. However if there were ever an issue, you could reach out to the prof and he'll resolve it! Very responsive to emails.
Dr.Padolik's chill however he's barely ever in class. The TA is a hit or miss. Some of them know what's going on while others have no clue. Not tryna be harsh but even though TAs are students too, I think they should know more than us. It's such a big struggle when my TA did not know what's he doing in class, and gave us the wrong instructions
if you're taking this professor for lab be prepared to teach yourself. He is never in the lab teaching and you'll be lucky if you even meet him. he just sends his TAs to help through the experiments and they barely know what you're talking about, if you ask a question they will say “i don't know”, and they take weeks to grade lab reports.
Unbelievably hard labs for a first year general chemistry. You will never meet the professor, class is run by TAs who don't know what there doing. Lab reports are very difficult and take time. Lab guides may as well be written in braille, good luck following directions. Too much work for a one credit hour class. Avoid if possible!
The TAs don't know how to do anything to save their lives. They're extremely nit picky when grading even though they're also students. They also take forever to grade reports. Chem21 is probably older than I am. It's like trying to write on a typewriter. Try to find a smart kid to do your lab with to make the class somewhat tolerable
Dr. Padolik does not show up to any of the labs besides to pop in and remind everyone to put their goggles on. He is very helpful when it comes to emailing about having to take a different time for a Lab. His grades are based solely on submitting your work on the website he made that he makes you pay for.
Dr. Padolik never shows up to his own labs, relying on his 3 TAs (who are barely told what's going on themselves) to oversee the 100+ students working with poorly communicated instructions that they are required to basically teach themselves. Avoid if possible. I witnessed him eating a salad in his office while everyone including the TAs struggled.
Padolik is never in class and the TA's are lost usually. Make sure you read over the manual before you get to class and print it off.
I saw him once and it was because one of the TA's was absent. The TA's do not know what they are doing. The lab reports are difficult and graded harshly. Lastly, he is just rude.
I went through a full semester of General Chemistry Lab, or CHEM 1040L, and never once met Dr. Padolik. The lab classes were run by TA's. Will this isn't in itself an issue, there is always the chance that you will get a bad TA.
He never shows up to class and doesn't prepare his TAs with the needed material. You never know what is going on or how it truly relates to the lecture. At the beginning of the year I emailed him because the TA ruined part of my lab and made my group start over, and he has yet to respond. Don't expect to understand anything in his class.
I only saw Padolik once and that was when he came in lab to tell someone to put on their goggles. The labs are ran completely by TA's. My TA knew what he was doing but the other two seemed clueless at what the lab even was. I had issues with members in a group project and Padolik was not very helpful.
Didn't ever actually show up except to yell at students or fill in for absent TAs. Class is fully run by TAs and if you ask him a question you will receive a snarky response. Unfortunately, there isn't any other professor for freshman chem labs so you will be stuck with him.
Don't ever expect to see the man, he will never come. Also, the TA's are simply awful at their jobs. I did not receive a single grade until the week before grades closed. It's unacceptable.
EASYYYY, just make sure you read the lab, watch the prelab, and do the lab report early. Also always do GRAVIMETRIC first in the fertilizer lab, makes your life much easier for those 2 weeks.
Padolik always had an attitude, never went to lab and when emailed he never answered questions. Worse proffesor ive ever had.
Initially, pretty tough for a gen chem lab but it is easier if you have the right TA to help answer your questions. Like others have mentioned, start on the lab report early and print out the materials beforehand. The post-lab slides are also really useful.
Grading and classwork is left up to TAs, would give you the wrong answer or have no idea what was going on in lab. The lab depends on your TA, some grade way too harsh and take off points for the most insignificant things. They also take forever to grade, you'll have no idea how you are doing on lab reports until you're halfway done with the class
Dr.P is an awesome guy cool professor. I had a few moments where I wasn't able to come into class and he was very nice and accommodating. Your grades, however, are based on 1) if you read the lab procedure very well and 2) What TA is grading that week. Both of those things are out of Dr. P's control, so ranking him on that is unfair. He is cool!!!
Mediocre quality course, but Padolik himself did a decent job at demonstrating the material in pre-lab videos. The TA's grade inconsistently and your performance in the course is really unknown until the very end because of how slowly the grading takes.
This class would be no different if there was no professor. He doesn't do anything.
