God is here to help you! I recommend no more Geography classes for you
Course offers info you never needed to know -- But wonderful guy!!!!!
Those who rated him highly are geog majors. Loves to hear his own voice.
Clear good lectures, very hard tests but a good curve
Nice guy, good lectures, very difficult tests.
Extremely hard tests. I think he wants his students to fail.
*oh god* had to drop to pass fail and still might fail!
Great teaching style. Precise and clear with course material. Recommend it.
FYI: Geography is hardest dpt on campus for a reason,to keep all u slackers out
tests r hard
I'm not a GEOG major&I think the class is very easy! Exams=easy, all from notes
Great professor. Knowledgable, Clear and Helpful. Love his class
Hard as anything. If you cling onto every word he says, you may get a C.
HARD HARD exams....map quizzes will what keep me from NOT failing.his accent ahh
Great professor, makes geography fun and understandable to non majors
Ok, the problem is the tests, (which there are 3 of) they are designed to trick.
Great professor, easy class, if you pay attention and take notes, you're fine.l
I learned a lot...go to class, take good notes, uses some old exam questions
Nice guy, class can be boring. Too much info to know which makes tests hard
took 3 classes and got A's take good notes and go to class!
love his classes, and i'm not a geog major.college is supposed to be a challenge
Extremely intelligent, very interesting lectures. You learn a lot!
very intelligent. learned more from him than any other professor. copious notes!
Classes are totally deadly, test format is extremely hard, can not bs!
Knows his stuff. Nice guy. Take plenty of notes and read. Exams are tough.
great teacher; take good notes and participate & you'll do fine!!!
very intellegent. all you have is a presentation on 1 world city of choice (whole class pd.though)and a final 15pg paper on your chosen city. its an OKay class!
Possibly the most intelligent prof. at the university. Awesome class, really changes your outlook. Amazing man, take any class just to get close.
7 years taking classes with him and still getting As....and you can too if you work hard!
smart man, pick your favorite world city and spend a semester studying it. not hard to earn a B if you do your research. But gotta present for a class pd, but he makes it comfortable to do. kinda fun!
Very interesting, There are 3 correct answers for evey test question, good luck picking between 3 right answers!
Very knowledgable, but kind of a crappy disposition. Tough tests, go to class or you're finished. Tests questions are all from lecture that are sometimes so buried in the point he's making you don't remember he said it.
getting a b+ in the course, never attending a single lecture. dont bother going to lecture, its not worth your time. go to discussion and read the book
are you kidding me? I'm a B student who failed his two test. VERY difficult MC tests. Map Quiz every week which are a waste of time. CLASS IS TERRIBLE.
Brilliant man. Informative and interesting lectures, but tests are tough. Come to class, do the readings and you will do well. Course is challenging, but worth it.
I went to every lecture but 2 and got Cs on the tests. I didn't do much of the reading, so that may have helped, but his lectures are fuuullll of information. Get ready to take tons of notes, or have a photographic memory. Nice guy one on one.
Covered more material in less time than any class I've had, and did it effectively. Easy if you come in with a background, otherwise could be tough. Good prof, good class.
BEWARE HIS EXAMS. Map Quizzes easy!! Go to class, or alter days with someone you trust. You NEED good notes, skim book, study in groups, remember the map quiz attributes. Rees is a very pleasant man, he just gives hard ass tests!!
Doesn't realize that the only people taking the course are there because they have to be, and makes the exams far too difficult for an intro level course. try following the handouts that he gives you on the website, it may help.
Hard but fair teacher. Go to class and take notes, throws out alot of knowledge. Reading is important, especially the chapter HE wrote. Exams are tough. Good guy if you get to know him.
exams are very difficult. study and read the book.
one of the best classes i took at UD. great teacher as well.
Sorry for all of those who think a 100 level course is supposed to be a cake walk...they try WAY too hard to balance their party schedule while thinking they can whisp their way thru a 100 level course...REALITY CHECK eh??? College does take e
Very difficult class for a 100level course. Most Exam questions are not related to anything he talks about in lecture or in text. Map quizzes arent too bad but everything else just blos.
Quit ****ing about hard 100 levels! Coming to class sober would help. This guy is one of the best professors I have had.
Honestly one of the best teachers I've had here. Knows and loves his stuff...you will learn a lot and do well if the topic interests you.
Great Advisor, good person to know and deal with. I heart him!
great professor; knows a great deal and knows how to relate that knowledge to his students; if you like the subject you will definately enjoy his classes; do not take him for an easy A however
Went to london for winter session 2003 and took a GEOG course with him. Excellent prof. arranged for the group to attend plays, Everyday saw a different site, had one or two weekends travled outside of london, Use study ?'s on website, HIGHLY recomend studying abroad, go to class, study=good grade.
Great class, definitely a polisci/econ. based class though, if you're not an ir major or econ. major, might have some problems understanding certain concepts. Hard tests, but not impossible and very fair grader.
Not a bad class. Not terribly hard either. Exams are tricky and if you pay attention to what he says in class, youre good to go. Map Quizzes are easy. Exams were curved. Can be an interesting lecturer although it can be a chore to go to class sometimes. Not a bad choice if you have to take geog120
I really enjoyed this class and this professor. He really knows his stuff and is very organized. You have to pay attention in class to do well on exams. Take good notes and you are good to go. Class outlines on website are also very helpful. Map quizzes are easy, just study.
This was the hardest 100 level class I have taken here. His tests are impossible and the T.A's are no help at all! He is very smart but you have to think like him in order to pass the tests!!

Rees is cool, this class wasn't hard, i went once a week and got an A, just look at maps and you can pass it with ease
I wish I could tell you what I learned in this class, but I can't... For a 100 Level class, the work was ridiculous
This class was definitely the most challenging 100 level course I've taken at UD, but I learned A TON! I took the section for juniors and seniors only, so if you're taking the freshman/soph section, disregard this. The book was really interesting-make sure you read, go to class, take good notes, and study the maps! Very intelligent professor!
This class was not hard for me, but I love history and geography. If you don't like these subjects then this class will not be easy. I took the jr./sr. class, I found the exams and quizzes to be manageable with good prep. Rees is a good guy, I thought the class was excellent.
Don't take this class unless you have to! I'm PoliSci and hated it. The quizzes and tests are ridiculous. The book doesn't really help, it's all random details from lecture. But the lectures are really boring, and it's very difficult to stay focused. There is a curve though.
Professor Rees is extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches. However, only take this class if you have to! It is very difficult for a 100 level class. The tests were very hard. I don't know where he got his questions half the time. The quizzes are not bad. Use the first test and quiz as a way to learn how he grades. Awesome curve!
Knows a lot about Latin America. Wrote a section of a textbook about Latin America. I took this class and studied abroad to London with him. Great professor. He is from London. Speaks with a British Accent.
Rees is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about. The class is not easy, and the book is not very helpful either. In fact, I never read any of the chapters, just attend class and pay attention. The tests are fair if you attended the lectures. At the end of the semester, he does curve everyone's grade.
The lectures could get boring and the text was useless. Rees uses a point system that brings your average down very quickly.
Prof Rees knows his stuff. I swear he knows everything. This class transcends geography and cover history, religion, culture, and political science from all around the globe. I learned more in his class then all my others combined this semester. It is hard for a 100 level, attendance is a must to succeed on tough tests. Study bc it is well worth it
Do not take Designing the City (honors colloquium) if you do not have an interest in urban design. The class description makes the class sound interesting, but you sit in the dark while Rees talks over a PPT and you have no idea what parts of his lecture are important. Very easy to get distracted in this class, but he's a nice guy.
Holy moly this class was hard! Not what you would expect from a 100 level! Attendance is not mandatory but you should go as often as possible. He puts the powerpoints online but they are basically useless without notes to accompany them. Tests are extremely hard. What an awful experience...
A knowledge of geography would be helpful coming into this class, but the information presented in the powerpoints is straightforward. If you take notes and study the slides, you should be fine on the five quizzes and tests. May be tougher on those who think France is a continent. If you can't understand how to use an atlas, that's your problem
Definitely a hard teacher. All the tests are strewn about with random facts. It's not concepts. He is incredibly boring, which makes it harder. Not a fan.
He really knows his subject, so you will learn a lot. Group projects are a major factor of your grade, so go to class because you'll be doing group work a majority of the time. His notes/powerpoints will wear your hand out, but they're necessary to do well on the exams. Do your research for the papers (part of group grade, but individual papers).
Really enjoys what he teaches, but not the most enjoyable man. Will tell you to leave class if you fall asleep. Very boring unless you want to know climate and muslim population of the world (thats half the class). Attend all classes! Tests can be pretty difficult and a good portion of the exam WILL NOT come from book. TAKE LOTS OF NOTES!!!
Class is very boring and he does not make it easy at all. Gives 5 mini tests which are hard and the questions come from random things, can use your atlas but it is of little help. Exams are very hard even if you study for hours, however coming to class is not mandatory and he posts power points online.
A much harder class then expected due to the fact that all his lectures are oral and his exams are based off his lectures. So definitely attend class! Also, do NOT under any circumstances fall asleep or use your cell phone unless you want to be embarrassed in front of the whole class and kicked out.
How does this guy has a smiley face next to his name? VERY HARD! You have to literally pay such close attention to his every word in class. I have no idea where half the information we were tested on came from. The textbook is worthless. Generally I am a good student (3.5 gpa) and I got a D+ in this class. Only plus is he's sort of a nice guy.
This class literally made me want to punch myself in the face. Be prepared to know more than just the borders, climate and terrain of regions. Prof. Rees loves rivers so make sure you know everything about them for the mini-tests and exams.
Rees for some reason thinks that anyone sleeping or using their phone in class is a major distraction. But from experience in this class- nothing is more distracting than Rees stopping class, yelling across the room for the person next to the student sleeping to wake them up, then kicking them out of class. Maybe that's just my opinion though.
Very hard. Never had a problem here so far at UD except for this class.Be prepared for mini-tests, they count in the end. As for his tests, very unfair. Random questions that were never discussed and it is VERY detailed. Content is, yes, somewhat interesting but way too much for one test.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I went to every class and took notes and still failed almost every mini-test and got a 25/50 on one of the exams. The questions on the exams were COMPLETELY unfair and were purposefully worded so that unless you had the atlas memorized there was no way to know the answer. By far the hardest class I've taken.
this class is hard but if you go to every class and take notes you can do okay. legit write down everything he says and then go over the notes to study. i didnt open the book once bc i went to class but buy the atlas, youll need it for mini tests. his tests are tough so take really good notes even though hes extremely boring
By far the worst teacher at Delaware. Stay away from this class at all costs. The TA is useless and the Professors exams are extremely detailed and complex that studying for hours will not help you remember every detail he asks. Take a different teacher for this class. Don't put yourself through this.
As long as you attend every class and take really good notes, you will be absolutely fine. Tests and exams are sometimes tricky, but fair. All material is covered in the lectures, but make sure you pay attention all the time. Textbook hardly used. Overall, I liked the class and learned a lot!
I don't understand people's complaints about this class or the Professor. This was by far the most enjoyable class of my semester. The class is very interesting, and Dr. Rees knows what he's talking about. Tests are not hard at all: 50 multiple choice questions. Just take good notes and look over them before the tests. No need to read the textbook
This class is hard for a 100 level, but not impossible. You should attend all of the classes & take notes on everything he says & on all of the maps. Do well on the mini-tests because those can help or hurt you in the end. Second test is very hard, but study the maps & where things are located & you will do fine.
By far the hardest clas I have taken here. So much material is on the exams that it is impossible to remember all of it. He is a good and passionate professor but his class is extremely difficult. If you have to take this class make sure to go to every lecture and take good notes. The tests are only based on the lectures.
Attendance is absolutely necessary. You won't pass if you don't. Tests are full of very specific facts, so write down everything he says. Hard for a 100 level class. But you will learn a ton from lectures regardless of how well you perform on tests.
He's actually kind of funny. Dry sense of humor. You need to take notes because his power points are all maps. Just write down the main points from each slide. Memorize those for the tests. Not a hard class. Just spitting facts back out. Got Bs to B+s on everything and after the generous curve at the end you wind up with an A
I went abroad (to Barbados) with Peter. Definitely knows his stuff. He's pretty funny. He had several review sessions which were very helpful. He was also really fun to be abroad with! Just take really good notes, if you don't you will not be successful
Words cannot describe how much I love Professor Rees. He's hilarious when you're least expecting, and he basically roasts people after group projects in the least-mean way possible. Clearly knows what he's talking about. Lectures can be a tad boring, but not terribly so. Effort on projects and papers is well-rewarded.
The professor is nice and enthusiastic, but this course is really hard. A lot of details are in it. Tests will cover almost all details he mentioned in his lectures. You have FOCUS every minute in his class. As a breath elective class, that is too tired.
Very good prof. but very very VERY HARD exams and quiz. Got C+ in this class. You need to not only remember the lecture but also understand the map. Try your best. It's not the hardest but almost one of them.
Prof. Rees is one knowledgeable man. Can't really find something he doesn't know of. I learned a ton from his course. Mini tests are not easy. Exams are somewhat hard. But he'll curve at the end of the semester. Got a C+ for the midterm and ended up with a B+. If he didn't curve, I would only get a B-. Make sure you take perfect notes!!
his accent is thick and you can't always understand him. 5 mini tests that are near impossible. the first test isn't bad but the second is a slap to the face. final exam is in the absolute last time period. lectures are boring and mandatory
no need for textbook, but the atlas is needed. Rees has a thick accent, hard to understand at times. Quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE and the tests are borderline ridiculous. He doesn't write anything on the slide so you have to pay close attention. He's a good guy but his class is way hard for a 100 level course. NOT a GPA booster..
Take good notes in lectures, put in effort for the group projects, participate a bit in class, and this course will be a breeze. I genuinely learned so much from Professor Rees, his content is interesting and truly invaluable in my major and in the grand scheme of modern day issues. Would definitely recommend him, hes a gem.
very nice guy! just can't teach well. tells us to interpret the images on the powerpoint. literally had to type lectures word-for-word in order to get a good grade on the quizzes. he's sympathetic towards ur grade if you show up to class everyday and seem interested. this class was boring. if you care about your GPA, find a different professor.
