Great Teacher! Loves what he teaches. Fun writing assignments and group projects. You'll love this writing class!
Great teacher!!! Makes the class interesting and knows his stuff. His assignments are fun to do, and his tests are so easy. Highly recommended!!
This class was fun and he applied everyday advertising to help us understand the concepts. He gave the class lots of opportunity to make up anything we might have missed and was very flexable if you were in a bind. He does know his stuff! Great teacher!
Evanow is my fave professor. I changed my major because of him! You have 4 tests (which he gives you study guides for), a couple easy writing assignments, and LOTS of makeup questions. He loves to help students & really gets the class involved in the lectures. If you get a chance to take him, DO IT!
awesome class, Evanow is great and so is the learning experience.
Great teacher. Genuinely interested in helping students. He was somewhat vague on the requirements for assignments. Great study guides, fun projects and useful feedback.
He very good at what he does. He know what he talking about because he is still in the ad business. Very knowledgeable and very easy going. I would recommed taking him
Prof.Evanow was one of the most awesome teachers i have had. His class was easy but still educational. I learned so much in that class and looked forward to going every tuesday and thursday!!!

Is not very clear on project guidelines. Instead of one project that you cover everything on, its three projects with little differences.
He is a great professor and is extremely helpful.
He is by far one of the most helpful advertising professors at fullerton. His mentor-like teaching method has helped me through many rough spots. LISTEN, ASK ?S, AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS KNOWLEDGE.
I like him. The class itself is really vague though. I felt like we were learning the same BS all the time, to the point where it was confusing. Maybe it's because I'm not an advertising major. Lectures are usually dull, but he's still a good teacher.
had him for comm 350 and 351. AWSOME TEACHER. very helpfull and approuchable. very funny.
At first I was intimidated - he seems to play favorites and is tough on grades. However, his criticism is CONSTRUCTIVE. His only flaw is that he does not clearly specify what he expects. Pay attention when he gives instructions to assignments, and be SURE to take down numbers of classmates. He is more flexible and understand than he seems.
Pete was a great teacher. I would take him in an instant again for my future classes. I took him for spring2007 and just loved his class. You need to be there every day and on time! I learned so much and had fun doing it. He is helpful and very flexible. You can turn assignments in through email by 2pm even if your class was at 8:30am.
Good teacher. a lot of assignments but not too bad. he tends to change the requirements on papers but you'll get use to it. he just wants to see that you know how to write. no exams just the final. you learn a lot due to his personal experiences. I recommend taking him.
Did not like this class at all. He's very vague and never ever specifies what he wants on assignments, then gives a bad grade because you did the assignment wrong when he wasn't clear about what he wanted to begin with! Lectures are very boring and pointless. Assignments are easy tho, after you and the rest of the class asks a thousand questions
He would make a good mentor but he is not a good professor. There are weekly assignments and he grades hard- he's a SUBJECTIVE grader. Some of the assignments have nothing to do with the course. His lectures are really hard to follow too.
I agree he would be a good mentor. He talks mostly about the real world as opposed to teaching us how to write. He cancels class a lot because he has his own business. He's rich, so he knows what he's talking about when he lectures you about business. Overall, easier than other professors but you won't become a better business writer. Got an A
he teaches buad 301 as if it were a COMM class.. which is fine i guess. he's pretty easy and would be a good mentor. i like how he uses real life examples to illustrate his ideas to the class. extra credit for attending friday workshops is cool. sometimes a bit tricky in explaining assignments. final was cake.
I am an international student so business writing isn't just my thing. But he totally helped me to pass this class. if you are doing not that good then go see him at his office hours. exetremely helpful. there was 1 big project about making movie series which i enjoyed the most, even though it was required to be over 9 pages.
I cannot stress how great of a professor Evanow is, he would also be a wonderful mentor. I am considering taking his 301 class next semester. He teaches you not only business writing, but provides you with insights on the real world. Hes a straight forward kind of guy that tells you exactly what it is Overall I really enjoyed his course. Take him!
Does not provide FORMAL guidelines for projects. Hard to score well on assignments bc he is never clear on what he wants. He's nice and funny. Sometimes interesting. You have to bother him A LOT if you want an "A." Midterm was easy. Make sure you use the book a lot to write your assignments. Not bad of a professor, but is annoying bc he is unclear.
Most amazing BUAD teacher hands down! You can get an A if you work for it, gives you extra credit opportunities and chances to revise. Always willing to help students improve writing. He was my favorite teacher and I love how he used real life examples in class. 1 quiz, hw assignments, in class assignments, 1 group project. take him!
Best professor I have taken at CSUF. Took him for Buad 201 and 301. He used real life and current examples that made it very interesting. He has a great sense of humor. He gives you 1 midterm, 1 final and a group project. You also have MANY assignments during the course but they help boost your grade! Oh yea, his daughter is HOT!
I wouldn't say this class was easy but at least he doesn't give a quiz every week like some other professors. Don't bother doing the extra credit unless you are failing. He only gives extra credit points to people that are failing and need the points to pass.
I didn't think he was an easy grader, but I'm a good writer, so I guess he expected more from me. I thought I deserved an A, but I guess I didn't "bug him enough." Midterm was mc/writing combo; final was all writing. Had a writing assignment in almost every class, 1 quiz, 1 group project (paper/oral presentation), and 1 big individual project, +HW.
Professor Evanow was a cool teacher in terms of knowledge, however, he was really scattered in being prepared and grading. I received an A in this class, but only because I didn't let up on certain grades I received that were WAY different from someone who had something similar. He favors you more if you get involved, so ask ask ask
Awesome teacher!!! Lots of writing, but he cared about his students and would stay after class to help. He gives great advices and you will learn a lot of this class. Even though writing was not my strongest subject, but this class became my favorite. Would definitely recommend!
I don' get it. I should have gotten an A, but ended up with a B. He's a cool guy, but there's something seriously wrong with his grading method.
This is one of those teachers who you sometimes hate and sometimes love. He's a tough grader, but very smart. He comes off mean sometimes but he's trying to be realistic about the world. His assignments were relevant. Liked him more and more through the semester. Plus he's kind of hot in a silver fox kind of way.
Great prof with great real life experience to share. He is an improv kinda guy, makes up the assignments in class which is cool. He cares about his students and goes with the vibe of the class. If he feels like we're all tired, he'll wait to give us work lol The projects may seem intense but once u get started, its a breeze. Overall great guy/prof!
Probably my favorite professor at CSUF. I'm a JOURN major but he made me love ADV. He's not the easiest professor, but his assignments make sense and he's very helpful. If you are a bad writer, he will probably give you bad grades, simple as that. Very strict on grammar and writing structure. Awesome guy!
I would agree with the comment about his grading. His grading is unfair, and seems like he randomly assigns grades at the end of the semester.I compared my final course grade with another student who writes the way he/she talks (which is not good writing),and he/she somehow got a B (same grade as me). He/she also put no effort in the group project!!!
Good no-nonsense professor. But he is often unclear on assignments-bad for a COMM professor. Also, he grades low. For example, I attended every class and still got only 16 out of 20 for attendance. What's up with that?
Take this class with this professor! If you check most reviews, other professors aren't too good. Professor Evanow easily created a class with uninteresting material and made the class enjoyable. Be aware, his class is awesome, but do not take it lightly. he grades you on EVERYTHING to the wire. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Great follow the hand outs and u are good
Took him for BUAD 201.FAVORITE Prof. He is incredibly interesting with his real world experience. I was applying for an internship and I sent him my Resume so he could look it over and he did (this is after the class was over). HIGHLY recommend to take this prof. He is also very understanding to international students and their abilities.
Prof. Evanow is a nice guy. Very helpful - he appreciates students who actually care about their education. BUAD 301 is a very tough class in general - but he is hilarious and tries to make it painless. Prepare to work your butt off for an A, but it's doable if you try hard enough. Highly recommend Prof. Evanow.
He is definitely my favorite teacher. He is always enthusiastic, which made the class enjoyable. There is a lot of work in this class, but he helps you every step of the way.He works with you on your writing and creativity.
I took this professor at Saddleback. Awesome teacher. My favorite by far. Helpful and works with you. Very funny too!
This class requires a lot of work and effort, and some assignment details are not clear until the last minute, but this was by far the best professor I have ever had. He is in the advertising industry and knows the ins and outs of the business and is extremely knowledgeable. Everything he taught will help me in my future career and every assignment was preparing you for a career in advertising. Best professor! Take him. You will not regret it!
An excellent professor. knows his material well. I took him twice and he is extremely passionate about writing. gives extra credit too. easy B though.
excellent teacher! Highly recommended!!! I learned a lot from his class.
This is the second time I am taking Professor Evanow. What an amazing professor. He is very enthusiastic and makes class a lot of fun. I would just recommend you to learn how to read Dr.'s writing because it's very hard to understand his handwriting. Except for that, he is extremely helpful and very sweet, but he does give you tons of assignment.
By far my favorite business class I have taken. He is very helpful and makes class interesting and fun. He has worked in the industry and gives the best tips on how to be successful. If you have the chance to take his class, you should. Don't need the book and only have 2 papers, 1 midterm, and a final.
One of the best teachers I have had thus far. He is so knowledgeable on the subject and he makes the class fun and easy to understand. There's a midterm and a cumulative final, a good amount of in class writing assignments, one group project and a individual paper but don't let this scare you...they're not hard! I would DEFINITELY recommend him
what a charismatic professor !! i took him twice and learned so much. His use of textbook was minimal and he teaches more from experience.. took him in summer and loved his class. a great person and a wonderful gifted professor.
He's super nice and is always willing to work with you. Might seem unorganized at times but he lets you make up assignments and has a lot of knowledge in the business. Drops assignments along the way and offers a lot of extra credit. I learned a lot from professor Evanow and I'm grateful that I took his classes.
Professor Evanow seems to genuinely care about his students, and makes every effort to help them be successful in the course. However, I would have liked to see the expectations of his assignments defined more clearly. He is a particularly stringent grader, but he does offer one "mulligan" per semester, and occasional extra credit as needed.
A great teacher who brings real life experience to the classroom. Great public speaker & his lectures are very engaging. Great course load that isn't over the top, but still requires learning. Having a good group for the team project is essential. I would highly recommend.
He takes a totally different approach to teaching, making it really hands on and cuts out all the fluff. He isn't crystal clear on his expectations, making him seem like a hard grader. GO TO CLASS! He is very helpful and quick to respond to e-mails. I hope to get him as a teacher next semester.
He doesn't give clear directions on assignments then gives harsh criticism. I tried very hard in this course, did all of my assignments, and tried to clarify exactly what he wanted on the assignments yet he would grade them poorly. The whole class would get confused on what was expected but he could never clarify his expectations.
Prof Evanow is my favorite prof in the Comm Dept. His class was so fun! He truly cares about you and wants to make sure you have the tools 2 succeed, like online resume portfolio, etc. His lectures are very intriguing, he gives great examples and you can tell he's been in the industry and really knows his stuff. Not too bad on the eyes either ;)
Evanow is my hands down favorite professor, I HAVE to have him for all my Comm. classes. He's passionate about his students and truly wants them to be successful in the class and their career. His classes do have a lot of assignments, but some are simple. He can be a hard grader but is because he care. He does give ec and other opportunities
Most confusing and unclear professor I've had. Often changes deadlines, doesn't post things on time when he says he will, isn't clear with directions AT ALL. You have to e-mail him for clarity, he responds quickly and with detail though. The class isn't hard - he is a tough grader on the press releases but not on the DQ's. Just remember to do them.
It must be said: he SUCKS with his own schedule. I spent 80% of the time confused and wondering what the heck was going on. He changes things, forgets things, and you never really get good notice of it. So, if you're not on top of HIM about whats going on, it's not going to go very well for you. DQ's, press releases, assignments & group project.
THIS TEACHER GAVE NO CLEAR DIRECTIONS. Was constantly confused about requirements for projects and when they were due. However the worst was that he doesn't reply to emails to help out students. Easy class but be prepared for constant confusion and not know where you stand in the class.
Takes a while to email back. Sometimes he does not at all. Posts assignments the week of so you have to check the portal every day to see if there is something due. He was so behind in putting assignments up he skipped some. He is a good teacher just unorganized. He doesn't stick to his calendar. Do the assignments how he says and you WILL get an A
Choose your group wisely. Very fun and entertaining class. Grades fairly easy if you do what he asks. Projects are fun to do. Really want students to pass. Tests are online: open book, notes. First, they seemed easy and "common sense" but I got BC's on my tests so don't underestimate them!
Very nice professor he just enjoys teaching and it shows take the class for advertising you will learn interesting points and he just is all around very helpfull with giving advice on the marketing and advertising agencies which is my future career so for me great class!
When you take your Capstone then make sure you take Evanow's 474! He is the best. You work for a CSUF agency called PRactical ADvantage Communications and work for a real client in a student run agency. There are no tests or quizzes but there is still a good amount of work, however all of it is for a client which gives you real life experience.
Writing stuff due weekly. Instructions are vague, the textbook helps slightly. He is very late on grading and doesn't post stuff up weekly even though he says he will. Honestly I relied on google a lot on how to do the specific writings. Not a hard class at all. I'm not a bad writer but if u are not a good writer, I suggest to take 362 in class
This class was extremely easy. There's weekly assignments he puts up and he usually gives you over a week to complete. There's one midterm and a final. The book isn't needed. If you put a little effort into your work, you'll pass. Easy A!!
Took the capstone class so you're pretty much on your own and he takes more of an advisory role. He does lecture but it may or may not be relevant to your semester project. You're in groups so you better hope you get in a good group from the beginning.
Professor Evanow does not make it easy; you have to work hard for your grade. Everything is presented in a straightforward manner, and you often have to take what is given to you and just run with it. (Real world experience!) His feedback is the most valuable part of this course. He will tell you exactly what you need to improve on.
Really funny, interesting Professor. The only drawback is he takes a while to post grades. Fun class though.
2 online quizzes, 1 FRQ midterm, 1 group project, final group assignment. This is a project based class - prepare to get creative. This was my absolute favorite class and really solidified my choice in this major. Prof Evanow is deeply passionate in his field and really knows what hes talking about. My favorite professor EVER
Prof Evanow is a great guy that genuinely wants you to succeed. I have taken a couple COMM courses with him for these reasons. This capstone course is very relaxed and is fun to see what is going on with other groups too. Definitely great hands on experience and looks great on your resume.
If you have the chance to take Evanow, do it. He is great at teaching not only basic class information but he is fantastic at giving lectures on real life lessons as well. This was the agency capstone so the class was structured very differently. However through the semester we edited resumes and cover letters and learned how to negotiate salaries.
Currently taking his class. He is very UNCLEAR about his assignments. You think you've done it right until you get your grade back and see that he was looking for way more which was not explained. Makes finding assignments hard to find since he doesn't put them in the right place. Doesn't know how to properly format assignments which I find funny.
He is such a character, knows what he is teaching, and keeps class super interesting. Be sure to do well on the group project, since working in groups is what COMM majors want to do. Would take a class from him again!
Really enjoyed his class! He cares and wants you to succeed. He has a laid back personality, but can be a tough grader. As long as you work hard, you'll do well. He prepares you for real life.
He's incredibly knowledgeable about the Ad industry. He grades hard, so beware and be concise. Choose wisely for the group project. He gives you completed study guides with nearly all of the answers on the tests, so I didn't find the book necessary. The tests are online as well. He's funny and is open to challenging if you don't like his grading.
Overall, he is a nice professor. He gives comments on your assignments if you finish earlier. However, even though he says it looks excellent, there is a possibility that you receive a C for the assignment. Also, his instructions are mostly unclear, so if you have questions, you should ask him. He is helpful and kindly answers your questions!
You think you know what you're doing and then you get your grade and see there are tons of things wrong that he didn't explain thoroughly/or were explicitly req. 2-3 group projects, pick your partner wisely. Could be more attentive to concepts, seems like everything is rushed. Don't buy book. Not the hardest class but u must work for a decent grade
do your work, go to class and you will pass
I love this professor! He knows what he's talking about! Lots of experience in the industry and is passionate about the topic. Always accessible for students. More Lecture heavy than book. Some small individual creative assignments and one big group project + exam.
Professor Evanow was a great teacher and was obviously educated in advertising. The projects he gave us were fun and required creativity, but he graded really strictly. However, he would usually give us a second chance to redo most assignments. He was a funny guy and I'd probably take him again.
Very unclear. He replies to emails late and in a condescending tone. there is much better professors out there who are willing to help you.
This class and professor is horribly organized. I have never taken such a scattered course. I am doing well in the course but I feel as if I have learned minimal material. There is no powerpoints, no lectures, and no assigned readings. I am not sure how he is allowed to teach a course by simply telling us to "google search" how to do an assignment.
Professor evanow is a great professor, you can tell hes very knowledgable in the things he teach. Just know hes kind of a condescending jerk, and he will make you feel like everything you do is wrong. He also grades hard on group projects, so choose you partners wisely.
Professor Evanow is highly knowledgeable, and I learned more in his COMM. 351 class about advertising, marketing, and branding than all the other courses in my academic career combined. There are many assignments, but most are quite easy. The most work you'll do in his class is for the mid-term (online and open notes; don't buy the book,!)
I am taking his class online right now and I'm so confused!! The Titanium page is a mess and his prompt directions are unclear. I emailed him to clarify things but he didn't really answer my questions and I'm still not sure what he's looking for. Assignments are seemingly more graded on your photoshop skills than anything else.
I took his online class and it was all over the place. He teaches by posting sites and articles from different online sources. You don't know what he really wants from you. Most of his assignments require Photoshop. Also he's a tough grader. Over all you can survive by just doing the assignments on time every week but he's not the best out there.
Wasnt great with online transition bc of covid, but still one of the best profs I had in person. Lectures are interesting and you learn a lot. Assignments are fun/creative-easier if you have a photoshop app. Titanium/syllabus can be confusing at times. Grades tough, but gives good feedback(will also let you redo assignments).Testseasy/online
Prof. Evanow has the best feedback for anything having to do with writing. His email responses are almost instant, and he is very charismatic and friendly in his lectures. Although my semester had to go through the COVID quarantine, Prof. Evanow still did a great job with his informative powerpoints and emails.
I took his COMM350 class online and it wasn't too awful. You have to go to class to get participation points, but you don't need a textbook. He is a tough grader on assignments but you can always email him for feedback. You have 4 in class assignments, 2 quizzes, 1 midterm (written), 1 final (group project), and you have another group project.
Evanow is super rude and vague. His commentary is very critical and biased. All of his instructions are extremely vague and when you ask for help hes still not helpful. You can get a decent grade in this class but its hard given that nobody knows whats going on. It doesnt help that hes not tech savvy either.
Isnt specific about what he wants on projects and sadly we pay the price for it in our grade. When you ask for help, you are still left with questions due to his short responses. Passed this class, but wish the teacher did more.
I had taken this professor from Communications 351 and honestly he was hands down a really good professor to take! He is always on top of his emails so if you get confused in any assignments he is there to help you out! We were graded based on an couple of assignments but we only had one quiz (super easy)! I definitely recommend you to take him!
Professor Evanow is a great teacher. If youre not sure about something you can always ask him & get a timely response. He does make you work for your grade, but thats how it should be (shouldnt just be handing out As for little to no effort in class anyway). Due to the pandemic, he has adjusted his teachings to online as well. Would take again
Professor is very passionate about what he is teaching and it shows. He's a tough grader but it makes sense being in a communications class. Grade mainly consist of 3 tests, and a group project at the end of the semester. Very easy going and I'd definitely take one of his classes again. There is a textbook to buy but you can pass without it.
Professor gives amazing feedback on projects. You can take almost all of your assignments into the real world if you plan on pursuing advertising in the future. Makes a real connection to students he sees put in the work and assists you with your grade based on that effort. TAKE HIM!!! Super cool and down to earth dude.
He's a somewhat tough grader but gives valuable feedback and has a clear passion for the subject matter. His lectures are engaging and each project is something you could use for your portfolio if you're going into Advertising.
i really enjoyed his class, we had small projects due every week or so and then one big group project at the end of the semester. he was really nice but i will say he wasn't very clear on his grading rubric. i wasn't always sure what exactly he wanted from each assignment.
Professor Evanow is my favorite professor, he really cares about his students. I thought this class would be super hard, but it wasn't. For me it was just more time consuming, but I had a lot of fun doing the projects. And I looked forward to his class every week. Definitely recommend him.
Terrible, terrible, terrible! He will do everything he can to make you feel, he will not help you with anything. Please please take a different professor.
Does not have good feedback (very subjective) and doesn't give clear directions for what he's looking for. Marks off for “bad format” when he can't even format his assignments/class in a way that you can understand it. I'd consider myself a good student but couldn't for the life of me get anything better than a B+ on his assignments. Don't take.
No grading criteria whatsoever. Terrible prof, poor feedback, harsh grader. Weekly projects have confusing instructions with little to no detail. How can a communications professor communicate so poorly???
Don't take. Horrible professor. Take Prof Coal instead and deal with the in person class. The stress is not worth having an online class.
Class consists of one weekly assignment that is honestly not difficult. However, his directions tend to be very vague and tricky so definitely email him about the directions for assignments.
Weekly projects with little to no instruction. When you email him, he seems annoyed. Allows one redo on the project at the end of the semester, but don't count on it significantly raising your grade. Wouldn'
I do not know what are these previous comments talks about? Literally, the best professor in the college of communications. As an international student who lives in U.S., Professor Evanow has been the biggest inspiration to me. He always points out lifelong valuable lessons from his over 25+ of professional career. Every class is a blessing.
Nice guy, easy assignments especially is you have canva. I did the weekly assignment (1) in 10-20 min same day of and got full credit. Lectures are kinda long and repetitive but super easy to follow. Overall easy class!
The best professor in the COMM dept, I take him every chance I can from 1st-4th year. Super easy going guy, clear on what he wants (just follow the rubric),usually low effort class but u learn alot because he has us do projects/assignments every week. If you ever doubt ur work, email him, he is responsive and nice about it. Just try and you'll pass.
Lectures are very short over Zoom--at most 45 minutes, but usually 30. Assignments are usually done in Word or Photoshop/Canva. No exams or quizzes. You basically get to build a copywriting portfolio. Ask for clarification if you need it. Use your best grammar skills, and you should be good in this class!
