DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU'RE NOT A TALENTED ARTIST. Yes that's right, this man will flunk you if you are not a good drawer, regardless of major, or the fact that the class is mandatory. He seems to think we all chose this class. Not helpful at all, doesnt teach(even says that he's not a teacher), and is extremeley vague and whispy grader.

I disagree with the above two comments. I came into the class without any previous drawing instruction and with hard work still managed to get an A. The key to his class is hard work. He is always brutally honest, which might offend some but he really just always expects 150% effort each class. Was my fav. teacher last trimester.

I liked him a lot. He does tend to have his favorites though. If you get on his good side, you can do no wrong. But if you don't there's always something wrong with what you do. He's just an overall good art teacher. Organized, critical and thorough.

It is true that he tends to have favorites and I am lucky enough to be on his good side. I really enjoyed his class. He does challenge the way you think to try things out of your comfort zone which is how I learned alot in his class. He seems to be a love it or hate it teacher. Some people love him and others despise him. It's hard to tell.

I really like professor Schroth. He takes time with each person to tell them what they need to improve on. He does expect a lot of effort and work in his class so don't take it for an easy A. I really learned a lot about drawing technique and there are no books. It's all learning from experience, which I enjoyed.

Total ****. Labels people w/out knowing them. Will tell you something looks good, then give you a bad grade for it. Doesn't teach at all, only criticizes everyone when he can't draw for crap himself. (or paint for that matter) Doesn't teach how to site until Mid-Term, will grade you against others in the class who already can draw. don't bother.

Peter Schroth is a professor I'd recommend to anyone taking color theory. He's very passionate and will give a lot of time to work in class, and his projects aren't overwhelming, giving you a lot of time for each of them. However, with such time comes the fact that he does not expect mediocre works and wants to see growth in your projects.

I have never met such a condescending professor in my time as a student. "So you're choosing to be difficult today?" or "so you want to be good now?" are statements he's said in class. He will treat you like a five year old and will no show respect for other opinions/methods. Steer clear of him and pick any other option for your foundation courses.
