SIMPLY AMAZING! the best class i have ever had. he always makes sure u KNOW what's going on. never thought econ could be this good. i defiantly recommend him!
Easy going guy, wants to have class discussions but usually just ends up lecturing. Lets you out of class early and often. Exams: a few essay questions, tells you the questions beforehand and expects you to practice at home. Great style of teaching. Those who don't pay attention or don't come to class will miss the answers to the test questions...
Really smart guy. Explains things very clearly and articulately. Class is pretty much the only thing that matters for tests. Unconventional, yet truly effective teaching methods. May be the best teacher I've ever had.
He's a great teacher and a nice guy. His class is discussion based and he explains everything as much as needed. I've had him twice and he gives similar tests with review before. Micro had one group project but the presentations made our class go by faster. I switched out of a harder and worse class and I'm glad I did. He helps you learn!
Really funny, interesting guy. Class is very discussion based, and the work load is not overbearing. His grading method is a little unconventional, but not hard to get used to and his tests are pretty straight-forward. I had a lot of obnoxious people in my class this semester and he managed to treat all of them with respect and never lost his cool.
Awesome guy! Class is very discussion based and he spells out everything that will be on the test. 2 tests, 1 presentation, and 2 reaction papers. Final was optional. If you can take this guy's class, I would definitely recommend it because you will have a very light work load, but at the same time will learn a lot.
This is not a hard class. Simon is an amazing guy. Eager to teach and gives his students very much attention. I learned quite a lot. Fabulous Class.
Simon's class was truly a pleasure. He's an awesome teacher, knows his stuff, and he makes it really interesting. I would recommend him to everyone and anyone. The only problem was the tests, they were pretty easy, just he didn't tell you what he was looking for on each question, so even if you knew everything, you could leave something out....
a great teacher. tries to keep it fun and makes you interact with the class. If you're not interacting, there's something wrong. attendance is not mandatory, but he'll boost your grade if you attend every class. As long as you take good notes, and make sure you get everything he wants (a difficult task), you'll get a 12 (A+) on every class.
Professor Simon is the man. He makes classes really interesting and actually applies economics to real life so you understand what's going on in the news. No other economics teacher has ever done that for me. Some tests are pretty tough, but if you pay attention it's actually mad interesting.
Excellent professor!! Probably one of the best in the economics department. If you have a chance, take him!
A bit unusual but creative. Some of his beliefs are bit a out there, but he's open to other viewpoints. Overall a decent class.
Great professor, no homework, just make sure you attend class and take notes, 'cuz the tests will be based off those.
mad nice guy...he comes unprepared every single time to class which is hilarious...he gives out test questions before the test so all you gotta do is memorize it and you will get above a B for sure.
Really interesting guy, keeps you captivated in class. Not too bad to look at either.
Amazing , smart and creative man . One of the best in Econ department
Very funny. Having his class in the 100 minute block is difficult because he can really only teach for an hour before running out of material, so it drags on a lot. No final and instead gives three tests through the semester which he helps prepare you for well.
Professor Simon is very fair and an interesting lecturer. He is funny and likes to hear from his class. His tests were always very fair and I knew what to expect. He never gives homework and the reading is optional.
Great professor! I took him for Macroeconomic theory, he made every class interesting and looks forward to the class interacting with him. Brings life into his lectures by discussing other little things like football, current affairs of USA. His general attitude is he loves to teach. His exams are easy, I got an A in his class. 4 exams - 25% each.
Many friend's recommended simon. Was wayy too hard.Don't suggest this.
Great teacher for macroeconomics. Very good at relating the material to events in the U.S. or everyday occurrences. Gets class involved and tells good jokes throughout. There are only three tests, but they are very fair as long as you do the readings/pay attention in class.
Professor Simon is awesome. he is great at relating subject matter to his students. i have his 8 am class and i never dread going to class because he makes it so interesting. if you have the chance, take his class, its worth it.
He is an amazing guy. Smart , nice and the class is never boring. If you have any chance to take with him . DO IT WITH NO DOUBT.
He's fun. Class is never boring, and he uses a lot of real-life examples. Textbook was not used at all. Take him if you can, amazing guy.
He's a very nice, good, helpful professor. I would say the only problem with him is that, in my opinion, he is too easy. Yes, too easy is the only problem. You will learn a lot in his class and be engaged with his teaching, but he won't challenge you or make you worry enough to put in that extra time commitment to study for his class.
He is knowledgeable, has good humor and is easy to understand, but he also tends to shove his extremely liberal ideologies down people's throat so badly that people with conservative mindsets will lose their cool more than once. Besides, he is hard to approach and in his office hours he is rude, unfriendly and wants you to leave him alone.
This is a very entertaining teacher. Very funny and very chill which makes you be in a good mood and follow his class with deep attention. Moreover, he explains very well everything, always opened to questions.
Go to class because, although most of them are useless, some of them might be CRUCIAL. His test questions seriously come out of nowhere from things he never talked during class. He is very disorganized and not approachable. It is true that he is funny, but not a good teacher at all. Not too interested in students either.easier than other macro tho
He is a nice guy who is enthusiastic about the subject but a strict grader and the class is difficult
urban econ is kinda easy. 70 percent is based on H.W (which you get full score for writing anything), and a 2-3 page paper. the rest is a midterm and a final. gives u the test questions ahead and never keeps class for the full 100 minutes. funny guy.
Simon is a really nice guy, but he CAN NOT TEACH! His lectures normally go off base as he begins to talk about prostitutes or the national debt, which he spends endless amounts of time on yet doesn't include it on his tests. Normally contradicts himself and has a really difficult time conveying his points to the class. Plus tests are very hard
Simon is a very chill guy. The class is entertaining and low stress, and I actually learned more about economics in this class than in any others I have taken before. Come to class if you want to learn, but if skipping is your thing, Simon really doesn't care. I was never bored, and got an A. Best econ teach, no question about it.
Says everything that will be on the test. Best idea: go to class and sit close. He follows the textbook, but its an unnecessary purchase if you go to class. Overall he is a really funny and engaging professor. Highly recommend him!
Simon's lectures are clear and to the point. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the exams. Grab a seat towards the front, take good notes during lecture, and listen closely- you won't even need to crack open the textbook. Definitely would recommend!
He's super funny, smart, and keeps the class engaged with his witty sense of humor and great lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you attend class and take thorough notes, you'll get a B at least! Want an A? Read the textbook. It'll further deepen your understanding of the stuff he covers in class. Overall, I highly recommend him for Econ.!
Excellent teacher. very engaging, and funny while actually teaching. he drills points that you need to know during his lectures, so if you go to class you will do well on the tests. being an economics class, it was somewhat difficult, but he does a very good job of explaining everything and even gives extra credit for doing online homeworks
Professor Simon was awesome. He had a really laid back teaching style and always made the class interesting. I highly recommend him to everyone!
Professor just goes on tangents the entire class and teaches you nothing. The mandatory sessions with the TAs are the only way to learn. Exams are rough and the TAs grade way too hard.
Very good at what he does. Textbook thoroughly unused. Go to class: you'll learn everything you need and the class can be fun. HW easy, tests doable if you go to class. He can tend to baby his more needy students, so if you're bad at school you're in luck, if you're good at school you might feel he sometimes wastes time. I recommend this professor.
go to class!!!! honestly you will learn about the course applied in a real world context. very interesting discussions and very cool teaching style. goes on tangents but you learn in a way you never have before. if you care about more than just getting the grade you will enjoy simon's class. not a hard class at all.
Great professor. very interesting lectures. Would recommend him for any economics course.
Awesome.
Great teacher
He really cares about the stuff he explains. There for you during office hours. An amazing man overall, shame Im done w macro already :
One of my favorite professors at Northeastern. He is really funny and approachable. He loves economics and makes the class really interesting. I would definitely love to have him again as a professor.
Tests are multiple choice which means the material can be easy but not hard to do well. The teacher is alright but also to a fan of a huge lecture.
The tests can be a bit confusing at first, he's not always clear about what will be on the test, but his lectures are actually really enjoyable, he loves what he does and it shows. Really great teacher overall.
Peter Simon has a passion for economics, a passion for students, and a passion for teaching. He sprinkles humor (its good, too!) throughout the lectures that makes you WANT to go to class, even if it's just for his jokes. He is great at what he does. Highly recommend.
Your whole grade will be based off 5 multiple choice tests (20% each). Doesn't give any homework, but you should definitely read the chapters because the tests are heavily based on the reading. Easy class to do well in so long as you do the basic reading and show up to his lectures (he is hilarious and entertaining).
Professor Simon is passionate and clearly knows what he's talking about. Tests are hard, so you need to study a lot. He is nice, and lectures are fun. No extra credit. Grade based on multiple choice tests
I liked the professor, but I found that some of the lectures a bit pointless. He was always interesting, but a lot of the content we went through in the lectures never were on the tests. I didn't read the text book and this was my major flaw. READ THE TEXT BOOK. His questions are worded in a weird way which I didn't like, but you get used to it.
5 tests in the semester including the final, each worth 20% of the grade and none are cumulative. Sounds so much easier than it is. Professor Simon is a great guy but the tests are worded so poorly and he never gives any feedback. Ever. Once I took my test I never saw it again, only the grade on blackboard. Very Frustrating.
Professor Simon gives fantastic lectures, but the lectures will not help you pass the tests (the entire grade is based on 5 tests). In order to pass the tests, READ THE BOOK and make sure you can adequately answer every question at the end of each chapter. A student could conceivably earn an A in this class without attending a single lecture.
He is a good professor but he just speaks too quickly and gives confusing analogies that by the time you start writing notes on what he says you give up really fast. Its a big lecture but he still gives you the liberty and time to ask whatever questions you might have. My best advice is to go to as many recitations as possible and read before class
Great lectures. The entire grade is based on just 5 tests, but the lectures alone are not enough to get a good grade on the tests you also have to read the textbook.
Amazing lectures! He is so concise, and explains Econ in simple terms. I thought that I wouldn't like Econ, but he made me pick up a double major in Econ. It's an easy class if you pay attention and go to recitations. He's awesome, Econ is awesome. It's a ten.
HE IS GOOD!
Great professor, inspirational lecturer, interesting person. The tests are absolute hell. You know how you have multiple choice with several answers being nearly identical, but only one is right? Every test is that. Blame the class, not the teach.
Simon's lectures are good but not helpful for the tests. You're good if you read the book and buy the Connect and do the practice multiple choice quizzes. You really have to look for it but it helps a lot for the exams. Recitation helps too. Big lecture hall. No homework or participation, your grade is made up of 5 tests. Non-cumulative final.
There are only 5 tests in the whole course and they are not cumulative. They are difficult because there are only about 30 mc questions on each test, so you have to really know the material to get an A. His lectures were not very helpful I found myself mostly relying on the textbook to study, and would go to recitation before tests.
Simon is the GEM of Econ at NEU. Take him. You'll learn and laugh.
The study guides he posts online are messy and unusable. The way he talks and teaches in lecture is incredibly difficult to follow unless you have attention skills of an incredible caliber. He sets his students up to fail on his ridiculous multiple choice tests.
Peter Simon was always engaging and tried to make economics as interesting as possible, even for non-econ majors. Go to class and sit up front to get the best experience. PARTICIPATE. It doesn't technically count for the grade, but if he knows you he totally helps you out when you need it.
Professor Ruff's class was what made me go for a minor in economics. There are only five non-cumulutive 40 question multiple choice exams each worth 20% of your grade. Read and understand the book chapters and if you can go to the weekly non required recitations and you will do good on tests. The practice tests on blackboard are also helpful.
Prof. Simon is simply stated awesome! He makes fun engaging and fun. Definitely recommend him! If you attend and participate in class you will receive a good grade for sure!
Simon is a awesome! He's layed back but a great teacher. The cons are his notes on blackboard, dont follow them to study use them as a guide for the book. 5 exams and that's it, the practice exams are 1/4 of the difficulty of the real exams so don't think their easy. Overall great class and I learned a lot, you have to READ! dont think you don't.
Had him for Microeconomics last semester, ended with an A-. The whole course is 5 20% tests which are 40 questions long. READ your textbook before the test and understand the concepts, answer the practice tests and you will do fine! His lectures aren't that important. However he is such a great teacher and I loved his class 10/10 would recommend!
Wasn't really feeling his lectures, but that might've been because it was an early class. Don't have to attend class as long as you read/outline the textbook chapters - whole grade is based on 5 multiple choice exams
I took his class for Principles of Macroeconomics. Fairly easy class: all you have to do is show up and do well on the 5 exams to get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory and there is no homework. Professor Simon is also an interesting lecturer if you do decide to attend.
Pretty easy A if you just read the textbook. Simon is an interesting lecturer and made the class fairly enjoyable.
He's alright. It's possible to get an A in the class but you have to have a great memory. Go to class; some of the examples he gives in class will be on the test. There are only 5 exams including the final which is not cumulative so study hard. Use the practice examples they give in recitation to study and the online quizzes from the textbook.
Peter Simon is possibly one of the best humans alive. I took his macro class in the spring, then went on a dialogue with him for summer 1. He is so sweet, caring, hilarious, and always around to help if you need it. Total midwestern hippie. Best prof at NEU.
Professor Simon is the best! Take all the classes with him that you can!
As someone who struggles in lecture classes, this class was perfect. "Dad" was an awesome lecturer, who made going to the lectures worth it. He would usually end his lectures early. The grade is based on 5 non cumulative 32 question multiple choice tests. Go to class and take notes, and read the chapter reviews on blackboard and you'll do great.
Econ 1115 is not a very easy class, nor is it a very difficult class, as a student who never studied Econ before. Go to lectures, some examples will on the tests; go to recitations, recitations can help you systematically review; read professors notes; then it is very possible to get an A.
I thought I wouldn't like econ but Prof Simon made me love it! He makes sure concepts are clear and understands the material very well. His examples are useful and connect to the real world. The 4 tests are tough but fair, and are definitely better than being graded on only a midterm & final. If you have to take econ, take it with Prof Simon!
Absolutely love Simon. One of the few gems in the Econ department. Only people I have ever met who dislike him or struggle are people who skip class. His exams are multiple choice only and straight forward. He dedicates an entire lecture period the day before exams to reviewing and answering questions. Wish he taught upper level courses more often
This guy would teach us ideas in class, the ideas would be reinforced in tutorials, and then the tests would be on how the ideas would effect each other which we never went over. He would also send a practice test out that was nothing like the actual exams.
Very good lecturer, no homework, just 5 exams (which you must pass).
In class he's an awesome lecturer. He makes jokes about politics. BUT he's not as great of a prof as these ppl think. Most of these kids are 1st yrs who don't know any better. I'm a 3rd year so I've kind of had the spectrum. He's a great speaker, BUT AN ASS OF A PERSON. Emails aren't helpful, & isn't understanding. Overall, wouldn't rec him.
Very interesting lectures
Peter Simon is entertaining and easy to understand. Grading is based on 5 tests as well as homework on Tophat (online textbook). Attending classes helps a lot with the tests.
As long as you pay attention in class and read the material, you'll do well. Professor gives good, interesting lectures.
The online textbook is sufficient enough to pass the class, but to get an A lectures are necessary. Lectures are not mandatory though, and skipping a class once in a while doesn't do much. Online textbook/homework, and recitations were very helpful to learn the material. Tests were fairly easy. Overall fairly easy to do well in the class.
Great guy, frustrating class. Lectures have no visual component aside from some hand drawn charts. Don't take if you are a visual/tactile learner like me. He also just switched to a self-authored online textbook and it isn't sufficient; all of his test and hw Qs are based on the old book and can't be answered without outside research
Solid teacher, but can be a bit condescending so FYI if you're sensitive.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Im a 3rd year and Professor Simon is the best teacher Ive had in my life. More than knowledgeable in the subject matter and cares about students and our learning experience. Effortless A as long as you study.
Professor Simon is very knowledgable and economics and his lectures are interesting. The class will be more difficult if you don't attend the lectures.
Test heavy class, but not too difficult if you study. Not the best teaching style, but the online textbook is very useful.
82% of your grade based on 5 multiple choice exams (25 questions/each). Get 3 wrong? B+ ;) Get 8 wrong? Congratulations! You fail the exams. The multiple choice's questions were very badly worded (even the TAs were confused). No curve at all even though the class average is very low. His lectures were boring. Materials are easy but grading is hard.
A great professor! He knows the material and is able to communicate well. The best way to get an A without studying much is to attend and pay attention to every lecture!
I am a junior here and I really can't stretch enough how good of a professor Peter Simon is. He has sparked thoughts and interests in economics that will last my entire life. If you get the chance to take him, do so, he will make you rethink your view of society and your role in it. He has a tremendous impact on me.
He is a great guy but the class is super test heavy. It is hard to expect what is going to be on the test. He goes on a lot of tangents during lectures which makes It hard to really pick up on what is important. The homework often times has nothing to do with the textbook readings or what is discussed in class. The tests are tricky and all mc.
Professor Simon is one of my favorite professors I've encountered at this school. Really engaged and has a great sense of humor. Makes himself accessible outside of class and explains things well. If you say something stupid you're gonna get made fun of a little but, but it's all in good fun and he'll probably follow up with a genuine answer.
Hard to predict how youll do on tests. Good class if you can put in the work (2-3 horus per week unless there's an exam).
Best economics professor at Northeastern. He's very smart and gives really interesting lectures from memory instead of reading off a slide.
Professor Simon is a great at giving lectures. Not only that but he really knows what he's talking about. With that said, the class is very test heavy and are all multiple choice which can be tricky at times.
Professor Simon is amazing! he makes his classes to be applicable to the real world, involves lots of discussions, critical thinking, application of economic models, and analysis. I totally recommend his classes.
Important catch with his class: It is entirely graded on 5 tests made up of 33 multiple choice questions each. He may personally be a good guy and decent prof, but you can do the math and see what you need for an A. I got an A, my smarter friend got a C- cause I was better at memorizing. If you aren't too grade focused, he's the choice for you.
Great lecture, no attendance, almost no Hw. Downside is that almost 90% of the grades are from the tests and you have five tests throughout the semester. Around 30 questions of MC and if you miss avg of 4 questions, you already have B+ or A-. But I got A- for not attending half of the class and no hw so im happy. STUDY FOR EXAMS AND UR GOOD
His lectures are actually interesting and he does a good job answering questions and explaining material. The class moves at a moderate pace and it's easy to do well if you read the textbook and show up to class.
Avoid this professor at all costs. The class is based entirely on the lackluster textbook (that he wrote). The lectures are incredibly boring, stale, and are not in any way engaging. The homework is easy and worth 40% of your grade but the Exams are full of stupid "gotcha" questions that have nothing to do with the course material.
I had Professor Simon for an 8am Macroeconomics class lecture. The workload is not bad just read the chapter before the lecture. All the homework is due before the next test date on the chapters. This allows you to complete work self paced which is nice. Overall the lecture is a bit boring especially at 8:00am but otherwise it is not difficult.
Do not take macroeconomics with this professor. Nothing he says in class or what is in the textbook will be on the test. On our final, he said there were a few questions that only 4 out of 100 people in the class got right but he thought they were fair so he kept them in. He ranted about politics and his college life in class.
The only class I enjoyed going to at 9am. Super knowledgeable and engaging. Lectured without being monotonous and didn't use ppt slides. Class is pretty easy even if you never show up--all the information is in the textbook. Still recommend listening to him lecture; he uses great examples and teaches in a way where you will remember everything.
Professor Simon was one of the best professors I have ever had. He teaches really well and is really funny. His homework is very straightforward and his exams were only multiple-choice questions online. He is amazing!!
Professor Simon is a walking textbook. He wrote the textbook that we use in class, and although he is very educated, his class becomes difficult due to it only being graded by 3 tests. The lectures can easily get dry but he tries to crack jokes and make it interesting. If you are someone who is a bad test taker, dont take this class
I loved this class! I recommend doing the textbook readings before the class you are scheduled to discuss that material. This way, you will have a basic understanding of the material before class and you can use the class time to ask questions and really understand everything on a deeper level. Go through the homework questions before the tests!!
although everything that's covered in lecture can be self studied by reading the textbook, i highly recommend showing up to prof simon's class. i had econ at 8 am and could've easily skipped, but the way that he explains the material makes it so easily digestable. did me a solid and rounded up my 92.5 up to a 93 which i appreciate too lmao
This man is the most talented lecturer ever! You will remember what he said months after the course is over because he explains thing so clearly and so well. If I was an econ major I would take every possible class I could with him. The best Professor Ive had so far
His lectures are conversational and he tells you exactly what you have to memorize and understand for exams. Your final grade is based on 3 online exams which have multiple-choice questions only and homework modules that are due before the exam day (but you can complete all of the homework FOR THE MONTH within an hour or less). Answers emails quick
Peter is a good professor. Lectures are not mandatory at all. You can easily get an A with simply reading the online textbook and memorizing the practice questions. Tests are all online and open note. Interesting teacher and easy class.
Structure: three tests. homework: easy multiple choice. test was on online platform and the textbook was also on that platform. read all the chapters and do the problems and you'll ace the test. His lectures were a bit useless but he did like to bring up current events if you're interested in that stuff. I barely went to classes for this prof.
The best lecturer I've ever taken. Course is somewhat challenging but his lectures help. Does not take attendance. Tests are online and open book.
Great professor, very engaging, don't have to go to class to get a good grade, just read the textbook. Tests are open note and not too difficult.
He is an awesome guy. Only lectures and he does not follow a powerpoint so it can be hard to follow. Homework assignments are easy and there was only one per month, which could be completed in around an hour. Tests are online no lockdown browser and definitely manageable. No attendance ever taken, some people never went to class and still did well.
Professor Simon is the best prof I've had so far, his lectures are very easy to understand and also very interesting! I loved going to his class even though it was in the morning. 3 tests worth 60% of your grade, easy homework worth 40% of your grade.
Good professor. The class is 40% HW and 60% exams: 3 exams. If you do well on all your homework then you are to get a good grade. Tests were not hard and were often questions found in the homeworks. He is a chill professor, doesnt follow a powerpoint so readin the textbook is helpful. Buy coursework and exams on tophat.
This is a super easy class, and Professor Simon is not a bad guy. However, the TopHat assignment is very long and the lectures are often just repeating what you could read. Also, if you are even thinking about reaching out to Professor Simon do not bother, he wont answer.
He was the absolute best, he could not possibly be nicer. His lectures are great and super interesting, but you can pass easily just by reading the textbook. The format of his class is super organized, everything you need is clearly placed in tophat. I could not recommend him more highly.
very strong opinions about education and how people should learn. For example, he would tell us we couldn't take notes and should instead be just listening. As someone with ADHD, I really need to be taking notes to help me pay attention but I often felt like I shouldn't be doing that. HW/Tests are open book/online and pretty consistent with texbook
I'm really glad I took Econometrics with Prof Simon. He keeps students engaged and always emphasizes that we can reach out to him with questions. I learned a lot about the material, but more importantly how to apply my knowledge to the real world.
discussion-based class, no exams. Only a few essays and everyone can get an A. What he basically does during the lectures is talk about his experience and show his opinions (biased) about a lot of things including comments on other Econ faculties and courses. Almost no class materials were needed. I gain new perspectives on knowing this world.
Professor Simon's lectures are super easy to follow and he inserts humor wherever he can. You don't have to attend class to be able to do well but if you follow along with the lectures you are sure to do well. Even though it's a big class don't be afraid to ask questions (he'll always go back). Class is graded on three exams all *not monitored* OL
Super easy prof, big lecture no attendance taken and you don't need to go, whole class is online through tophat, nothing is actually graded by him its just multiple choice homework questions and three non monitored all multiple choice tests, no final. If you put in about 20% effort you can still get an A. If u do go to class he is a great lecturer
3 exams all online. Homework and textbook online. Biased and awful lectures. Do not need to participate or go to class.
Peter Simon is incredibly entertaining and a great lecturer. That being said, attendance doesn't matter but you still have to go to class to actually do well on the online tests. Those were difficult, but overall, he is a good professor and you'll want to actually come and sit in on his class.
Lectures are boring but participation is not required, the tests are hard unless you actually review & study, homework is easy. I would take his class again.
Overall, he is a nice and funny professor who goes over all of the material well and seems to have great knowledge of the content he teaches. The course structure is very laid out and our semester is split into 3 tests, each covering 5 chapters. The tests are taken online and his class allows for flexibility.
Great teacher. Best econ class I've ever taken. Clear expectations for assessments, and very fair grader. If you go to half the classes and read the textbook once, it's an easy A.
grade is 50% exams and 50% homework. exams are online so you should be able to get a good grade in the class. lectures are interesting and he is very funny. does not take attendance. if you want a chill class, this is the professor for you. he is very great and i would recommend him to everyone. he makes the info easy to digest and reviews a lot.
Lectures are engaging, but do steer off-topic frequently. Class is all multiple choice, an incredibly easy A.
Does not teach at all!!! Basically an online class.
You do not need to show up to class to do well. Grade consist of questions in readings, several homework assignments (MC 20 questions), and 3 Test (not cumulative) all of these are formatted the same.
Tests are online, attendance is not mandatory. Grade is made up of 50% hw and 50% tests so it is easy! 100% recommend taking this class!!!
Literally so light take him for macro 100%. All online assignments unmonitored
Best Macro teacher you can get at Northeastern. 3 online non proctored tests worth 50 percent of your grade, and homework is the other 50 percent of your grade. No final. Attendance doesn't matter, I showed up to the first class and never came back and just read the textbook on my own time and easily got an A.
Simon is a very funny guy and a really good teacher if you go to lectures. Lecture is optional, and tests are online at home. It is worth going to class because he has a lot of knowledge if you actually listen to him. Homework is very similar to the test. Overall, great teacher and class.
100% recommend if you need to take Principles of Macroeonomics. Homeworks and tests are online and easy to do as long as you read. Class is optional, but lectures are fantastic and you can clearly tell he is passionate about the topic. Best professor you can take for an intro economics course at Northeastern in my opinion.
Ugh Peter Simon is a SWEETIE! Macro is an easy course, but he makes the lectures pretty amusing especially if you sit in the first row. Grades consist of tests and HW. Exams were online via TopHat and so was the HW. You had until the exam dates to submit all of the assigned HW for the according chapters. No attendance. Overall, very funny & nice.
He is my favorite lecture. He is funny and clear. He doesn't curve tests because he thinks bad tests are the result of the teacher being bad, so he has review days which are super helpful. Textbook is on Tophat which is expensive and can't be pirated. If you sit in the first three rows expect to get called on. Go to class, its fun.
Good guy, will like you if you sit in the front. Don't expect him to remember your name, he's focused on the material more than anything else. If you go to class you will do well.
Professor Simon is a good teacher and very funny + passionate. Class attendance isn't mandatory and if you find an upperclassman who has taken him you can find his quizzes and homework since they're all recycled. If you can't reading the textbook and listening in class will set you up either way.
Really funny lectures, homeworks are super flexible and online, but it isn't super easy to get a good grade. You'll need to pay attention (something I wish I did more in retrospect) in lecture, but when you do he does a good job making sure you understand the material. Tests are weighted heavily, no attendance mandatory, fun course.
All grades through Tophat. I got an A and attended like 3 lectures. If you do go to lectures he is very funny and often goes off on tangents so I hear. AMAZINGLY easy class, you can get as much or as little out of it as you want.
Such an easy class. I barely went to lectures and all 3 exams and hw were online.
Peter Simon is a chiller. If you go to his class, congrats, you get to see how chill he is. If you don't go to class, you still get an A. It's a free A.
Basically online class. Test and homework are all online but you will learn nothing. I would not recommend because you are basically guaranteed a B+ and the lectures often don't relate to ECON. Although, the prof is very nice I just wouldn't recommend the class.
To sign up for this class is not to sign up for a college course on macroeconomics. In fact, economics will not be taught be this course. Instead, you will be forced to pay $150 for a digital textbook which is only available from one source. There are only three assignments: They're all on the website you pay for. Don't waste your time.
This entire class is based on an online textbook. You do homework assignments the day before the test and then take the test the next day, you do this 3 times and that determines your grade. The exams are weirdly hard for such an easy class but overall the professor is a nice guy.
All the homework assignments and exams are online. The only way you will do well in this class is if you actually read every chapter you are being tested on. He is a really caring and passionate teacher and I could've done a lot better if I put in the effort though.
Highly recommend. Prof is very passionate and its worth going to the lectures even though they aren't mandatory. He care about his students and all the homework and tests are online. the tests are kind hard however so I def recommend reading the textbook thoroughly.
Amazing professor test questions are very difficult but definitely go to class if you want to pass.
grade is 40% HW and 60% exams. the textbook was written by himself so it's harder to use resources other then it for exams and homework. Class is fully online, probably went to the lecture once all semester.
He is very knowledgeable, but his lectures are unorganized and hard to follow. It's just him yapping for an hour and a half. The grade is based on homework and tests and the tests have some confusing questions, I studied a lot and still didn't do great on them. Most people stopped showing up to class but it would help to go.
so easy. all exams are take home, not monitored.
This class is honestly very easy but the Tests are impossible to do as he would take smallest thing from the textbook and make it a question. Test were hard to get a 90 on even though it was online.
Easy class. Dope professor
goat. attendance isn't mandatory but is def recommended to get above a 90 on the exams. exams are online and non-proctored. he knows the material and cares a lot. lectures are fun if you care.
The goat himself. One of the best profs I've had at Northeastern.
Easy yet challenging course. Attendance is a must to ace the tricky exams. Lectures are engaging, and the prof is helpful. Use the textbook and unstuck study for solid prep.
He is really nice and his lectures are funny, but so so so boring. His tests are online but impossible, and make up 50% of your grade so if you don't do well you're cooked. Personally wasn't for me because I wasn't super interested in econ and therefore didn't go to lecture.
your grade is based on homework and 3 tests. Just study hard on the tests and you can do well in this class. he is a good lecturer and tries to make the class interesting.
Prof Simon is the GOAT. This class is super interesting, it's pretty much all discussion and you're graded on attendance and a few papers. The papers are all fairly easy to write, there isn't much to do outside of class time. It's a very interesting elective.
Everything is online. I stopped showing up after the second week. We are only graded on homework (50%) and tests (50%). The tests are not so easy, but if you attend lectures you would probably do great. The test are taken online through connect, and we have 1 hour and it is unmonitored. It felt like an online class. No extra credit is given.
Professor is very funny, lectures are okay and not mandatory. Homework and Exams are online weighted equally (50/50%). Homework is easy and digestible however exams are surprisingly difficult for being online multiple choice. Its difficult to get a solid grade in this class because of weighting.
A KING. Lectures aren't mandatory (I only went to class 3 times) & everything is online and NOT PROCTORED. Practice q's in chapters are graded on completion, HW graded on accuracy. The only 3 tests were online too and we had a time frame to take them. Even when I did attend lecture, he was super funny and chill. Best prof of my semester!
Super nice, super funny, really encourages conversations during class and is willing to hear pretty much any opinions on most Econ related topics. Only had 4 essays and got 100% on each, almost the entire class got As. Smart, funny, interesting, kind, all around 10/10 professor.
Theres a reason his classes (no matter what it is) are always full. As someone who have taken his classes, I can say that he is an amazing teacher with understanding (lenient) grading. He is VERY accommodating and understanding, most students can agree with that too. Either way if you have a chance to take him you should. Sometimes he speaks fast.
Best professor I've ever had. His lectures are amazing and he actually EXPLAINS. His jokes are hit or miss but he's a goat. I'm glad I took this course with him. His grading is only on homeworks and exams. Homework is through top hat so yes you'll have to pay.
If you are a visual learner, the lectures can be pretty difficult to follow along because he does not have slides or anything documented during class. Despite this, he explains the concepts in simple ways and it is not hard to get a good grade in this class if you read/do the homework. The tests are take home and homework is 50% of the grade.
SUPER EASY CLASS! He is so funny and understanding. Attendance is not mandatory. He often cancels lectures. You can learn everything from the textbook. All exams and final is online through Top Hat.
Class is very easy. All homework and exams are online. We get at least two weeks on every homework assignment. Never showed up to class and still got a good grade.
This guy is the goat. Long live Peter Simon
Barely anyone attended his lectures as attendance was not required, but he was super engaging and passionate about the material. I would recommend attending because even though tests are online they are actually pretty difficult and make up 50% of the grade. Professor Simon is great overall his class was pretty easy.
Loved his lectures- would suggest everyone goes even though they are optional! Test questions are super fair as well.
Literally everything is online (hw and exams) which makes it convenient. Attendance is mandatory bc we had a HUGE class. I didn't really go to class but still did well, so take a class w prof Simon if you want an easy A but still learn stuff. He is the best!!!
In-class lectures are the exact same material as the textbook. I found Simon to be funny and very clear. Tests were online take home. Online homework was pretty easy too. I know with classes like these (large class, attendance not mandatory), many kids skip, but I personally really enjoyed going to his lectures.
Great guy with interesting/funny lectures.Optional attendance because it's a 200 person class.Tests are completely online outside of class with no lockdown browser, but they still are challenging because it can be specific to what you learned in class + the textbook we use. There is HW graded on completion and HW graded on your score.Take his class
I don't think his lectures were very helpful, and he kept expecting participation in a class with 200 people and no participation grade, so he kept getting mad nobody was answering his questions. I just used the textbook to study instead of going to class. I don't think I learned much but at least I got an A. Tests are online which is nice.
Very nice and caring professor. Homework is worth 50% of grade and the 3 tests are the other 50%. Attendance not mandatory and the tests are take-home so you can basically do the class without ever stepping foot into a lecture, however, the lectures are very helpful and prepare you well for the tests, and Professor Simon is a very enthusiastic dude
Great professor, he is extremely good at explaining concepts and relating it to the real world. The homework and tests were also really easy.
Just a chill guy, tests are online at home
Prof Simon is super chill all his work was online, just some readings and HW. Never came to class lol. Would recommend.
