Very intelligent but tends to ramble and really likes black and gold clothes.
Knows a lot and is well travelled. Good professor that tries to have fun, very easy to talk to!
the best teacher
Sooo boring. Every class was a battle trying to stay awake. Nice guy, but not a very good public speaker.
he is a great prof, shows losts of slides of his world travels and is very knowledgable
Boring professor, but he's known to put questions in his exams from his lectures. His exams are REALLY easy!!
Could not understand 1 word of the course because of his accent, gave the most BORING lectures I have ever sat thru. Only read off of notes, nothing else. Eventually stopped going, as did everyone else. Tests were SO hard, NEVER AGAIN.
Great Professor
umm.. graet guy !! very nice n all..but ya its hard to understand anything he says!!.. but u have the notes..so its all good...the elctures can get boring..but the tests are sooo easy!!
nice guy, but very hard to understand. Don't buy the text book just study the class notes.
Very easy course - I hardly went to class. He's easy-going and pleasant, up for a chat, and helpful especially when it comes to papers.
very funny, his stories are off the wall. not suppose to be funny, just are. very animated and refreshing. you have to hear the story of when he was in europe with one of his classes and lost his fanny pack that had the whole classes money. too great
Slezak is da man. That's all I gotta say.
Class is great, doesn't dance around political correctness, just sit back and watch the show. I'd take another class with him.
He is a funny guy, he knows the subject matter down pat and communitcates it very well. He has a bit of an accent, but its not to hard to understand, and if you go to class the tests aren't to hard. I love the lack of political correctedness, Slezak is awesome!
with practise exams, this is by far the easiest course i have taken. hilarious guy..slezek is the man!!
By far the easiest class I ever took in university. Exams are verbatim from the notes. 2/3 of the class finished the final exam in 30 min. Pretty funny guy, but there is no need to attend lectures. Likes to rub his belly.
He is a nice gey. He may help students to do any thing as long as it is legal. He is a funny gey. Sometimes he sounds like a young man, which keeps little "distance" between him and students. The tests are kind of easy.
HILARIOUS! Very enthusiastic lecturing style, easy-to-understand typed notes, not-too-difficult exams. Highly recommended.
Very nice guy...says that the majority of the content for his exams comes from his notes, but that's not really true...definitly read the textbook. Going to class can get boring, but he likes to test on what he says, not just what's in the notes, so it's worth it to go.
basically a good prof. Study for your exams, and you wont have any unpleasant suprises
Great prof, I love the way he gives marks for imrpovement. Even if you do bad on the first test, you can still get an A, which happened to me. Thanks!!
His accent is awful, makes it very hard to understand what he's talking about and his lectures are awful as well. His class is so boring and the tests are tricky, design to mislead students. Plus, he makes really bad jokes, awful, i couldn't stand taking his class.
He's a really great guy to get to know. I really enjoyed his USSR class. Just remember to watch the clock when taking his written (not his m/c) tests because you can easily run out of time if your not careful.

Great prof, very enthusiastic. Tends to ramble when those question kids ask something not totally on topic. My advice is to not print off the notes and to write them off the overhead so you focus more. Test was easy and short.
Very friendly and funny. Covered the content really well. Knows what he's talking about. Occasionally got off-topic, which was fun. The exams are straight off notes. The labs are really easy!
Excellent professor. He knows his information and is very enthusiastic when he teaches. I highly recommend him to others. I enjoyed his class, and I didn't mind attending class even though it was not necessarily mandatory since he just went over the notes, which are posted on Blackboard.
Very cool guy. Always talking about hockey and cars and beer. Has some cool stories about the Czech Republic during the communist era. Some people find him hard to understand because of his accent, but I didn't have a problem. Very enthusiastic and a genuinely nice guy. Easy class also.
Just fantastic!
He elaborates very well about the course material. Plus, his travel experiences really help his teachings.
GREAT prof, fun lectures, explains so that the info really sticks, goes off - topic into his fun stories, wikked to talk to, totally fair, easy exams, best class ever, AND I learned alot
This was the 1st time he's taught 203. First midterm was questions from guest lecturers which were way too specific. Class average:65% 2nd midterm is slightly better but still difficult considering this is an intro class. He accused his class of being partyanimals who should stop drinking and start studying.oh & he talks in run on sentences all tim
Very enjoyable Prof. His classes are fun and he shares wonderful stories. His tests were easy and we had to write a long paper, which he marked fairly. Would recommend him to anyone!
His 205 class was my favorite this semester, I could just go, sit down, not take notes and learn about geography. The first final was hard especially because of the guest lecturers. otherwise it got easy and I thought he was pretty funny. Every once in a while he talks about beer and I can tell he loves beer more than anyone.
Impossible to understand. Find his sample exams to get 100% on the final
It was his first time teaching this course. I took this course as my option and it ended up being my worst mark in the semester, and not by lack of effort. His exams are HORRIBLY difficult and WAY to specific for an entry level course. Do yourself a favor and do not take this course with Slezak as a prof, its NOT worth it.
It was so hard to understand him and there was no point of listening to him. He goes on forever about stuff you don't need to know for the tests. He's nice to go talk to though but I wish I never took the class, I never learned anything I didn't know from before. "well there you are" -slevak
OK first off, this course was easy. There were hardly any textbook readings and the slides would tell you everything you needed to know. As long as you study for the exams, you will do great. Prof. Slezak was a really nice guy and was quite knowledgable. Sometimes his accent was hard to understand but he was very helpful when approached one-to-one.
he's pretty awesome
Hilarious! Sometimes polically incorrect which I find entertaining. His accent may be difficult to understand at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. The class and his exams are pretty easy and is a definate GPA booster!
I found the prof and his notes to be confusing and redundant. There is a lot of expectation to know vast amounts of information about all nations and their histories which are not reviewed within the lectures. The exams require a lot of studying and require that you know a globe inside and out. By far too complex for an introductory course.
The tests were very specific for an introductory class, and he was not very helpful when asked for additional help
The class material was very interesting...but Slezak made it difficult to enjoy. He would go off on random tangents and didn't specify what was important and what was not for exams. Test were wayyyy to specific for an intro class. Most questions were right from what he said, so make sure you can commit to attend every class.
comes up with politically incorrect statements throughout the semester!! Somewhat difficult to understand, he tends to wander off into mumble land part way through a statement. Exams are tough. First of three the lecture series was given by a guest lecture every time,.. did not know where it was coming from. next two were detail intensive.
Exams are way too hard for an entry level course, including specifics from the photos in the ppts. Grade is based on two midterms and a final, so if you do poorly on one, you are in trouble. Hard to understand at times and the classes are not very interesting. I wish I had dropped the class and do not recommend anyone to take it with him.
The class was interesting, but I didn't learn much. Nothing you couldn't have found out from reading the news occasionally. I found him very difficult to understand because he sometimes mumbles. Good guy though, and when you can understand him, he's usually got a good sense of humour.
Absolutely horrendous. A class that is supposed to be straightforward turned out to be my lowest grade ever. Exams are hideously specific. Forget about being tested on knowledge, it's all about cramming every single percentage number from the maps. Class average was disastrous as well. Avoid him at all costs.
i thought Slezak was a good teacher, its funny how the people that give him a bad rep on here are the ones who did crappy in his class. You dont see all the kids that got B's and A's (there was alot of A's), anyways mumbles a little, very enthusiastic, pay attention and everythign is fine.
Half what he thought wasn't even on the final or exams. Textbook readings we're 100% useless for the midterm (the only thing i studied, i got shafted..) However, you can skip very easily since all his notes are up on blackboard.
His tests are way too hard for intro geograhpy. Class avg is only 66...
great teacher but if you dont attend class you have low grades
Is a decent teacher who is funny but being in class is just dreadful. Cant understand most of the stuff he says but he definately knows his stuff
Rude and ignorant when it came to asking him for help. Tests are extremely hard for a junior level course and VERY DETAILED. I dropped the first time around and only passing the 2nd time because his tests are pretty much the same. Lectures are on blackboard, no need to attend class.
Even though the textbook is interesting and seems important his tests do not reflect these readings at all. Just read the notes, class is incredibly boring. The only way i got through this class is counting how many times he says "so there you go/so there you are" his record is 26.
Well, you know, Slezak likes to ramble on about things that are often unrelated to the material which, by the way, are all on the black-board, you know? He usually seems more interested in telling you about the diarrhea he got in some country than the topic at hand, but you know... ehhh... well there you go. Any questions?
Class presentations were an enormous waste of time. Expectations for the paper were not clear at all, and were beyond the scope of a typical 300-level class.
Horrible !!! the prof has only average and very superficial understanding of his field, the PP slides look as if made by a Grade 6 student, and are full of mistakes and outdated information...the multiple choice exams are absurd...so much unnecessary detail...not fair in my opinion for an introductory class...
very detailed course for a 200level course. avoid if u can otherwise prepare to attend every lecture and take many notes.
Great Prof, easy A if you attend all lectures. No need for text as he takes almost everything from class notes. He has travelled extensively and is therefore very interesting and knowledgable of material. Bit of a character, bit highly Recommended
Easy Prof. Teaches straight from blackboard, no need to go to class. Presentations were nice to have - less material i didnt need to know. mumble muble..wll there you have it...there you go!
Peter is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and for the most part the multiple choice exams are fair. You can get 80%+ in this class without attending any lectures, but if you are looking for an A make sure to pay close attention to lists of countries and items in the lectures and read the textbook. Excellent prof for a 200-level course
Dr. Slezak has travelled extensively, and therefore has a great grasp on what he teaches. The class was also very interesting. My issue was that on his exams, he asks questions about some material that is either extraneous or not mentioned altogether in the class, and when you meet with him to go over the exams, he is not at all helpful.
He mumbles a lot and his accent is difficult to understand. There really is no point in going to lectures, just memorize the notes and you'll pass his exams.
Very good professor. Has extensive knowledge. Goes out of his way to help students. Provides lots of useful comments and insight during office hours. Don't buy the text book and stick to notes and memorize the names, locations, etc. of all the important countries. Exams are from lecture to lecture. In short, a wonderful professor.
I have taken 2 classes with Slezak and I'm glad I did. I took Geog of Europe and his marking for projects was very easy. He basically tests on overheads. In class he sort of babbles but is very sweet and likeable. Goes out of his way to help students reach a good grade. Highly recommended.
Best prof you can find in u of c. Easy A's and the midterm and final are super easy.
Awesome guy, and a great prof. If you want to do well, don' get the textbook, just make sure you write down what he says, and know every point in his notes.
Really hard to understand, he doesn't like using a microphone, which is hard in a class of 300+ students. Tests are really random, make sure you know every single point in his power point slides
Peter Slezak is a compulsive liar. You go to his office and he promises you something then acts like you are making things up when you confront him about it. He is suffering from memory loss, so taking this class is very risky.
He is absolutely the best geography professor in University. His lectures are so interesting and he is a fair marker when it comes to my paper. Also, he's extremely approachable and helpful. The only complain i have is that he should mention that the books is completely unnecessary..
Hard to understand at first, then you get used to it. Make sure to write down extensive notes in his lectures since he does not assign readings. He tests on details. Get old midterm exams - those REALLY help. He doesn't use the textbook but I used it for the 2nd final (almost failed 1st). It helped to understand his notes. Use the darn textbook.
he is extremely hard to understand. his tests appear to be on information that he has somewhere in his head, but failed to share with the class. his notes didnt help at all. basically google the countries and memorize all the random tidbits you can. good luck!
Do not take this class.I went in expecting for it to be a GPA booster, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. If you don't heed this warning, whatever you do don't buy the textbook. It's completely useless and a giant waste of money.Be prepared to go to class every day and take extensive notes on what he says, because that's what he tests on.
I hated this class, he said "study the slides, you will do fine" LIES. I was hoping to get 90 plus, and by the end I was praying that I wouldn't get a D. Textbook enhances your knowledge if you don't know anything. Unfortunately, everything he says during class is on the test. If you fall asleep quickly, do not take this class
Peter is amazing and people saying he is not is ridiculous. Attend his classes take notes, study his slides for exams and you will do fine. He does not try to trick people and wants students to do well. No textbook is needed in his classes and he tells you that the first day. Go to his classes and you will get a good mark.
Tests were fair, and had a few questions that were not in his notes. Buy the textbook if you want an A(which he says in the first class). Lectures were very boring, but Peter is a nice guy, who genuinely wants to help his students. I would recommend him, he's a decent prof.
I had him as a co-professor for a geography option. I thought he taught the material well.
:( I thought the class would be a GPA booster, sadly I was mistaken. His use of power point is unhelpful, tests are seemingly random, reliance on maps with little to no information. The course is okay, prof isnt...
When people say they didn't like this class because it "wasn't a GPA booster, I laugh. This is university folks. The start of this course was boring and not well taught (physical geog by 3 guest lecturers) but the human geography part by Slezak was awesome. He cares and is approachable.
One of the best profs in the university.
This class simply rocked.
Peter is a great lecturer. He does have a slight accent but it is not hard to understand him. He's very funny and also a really nice guy. My only complaint is that his tests were basically just his notes. Some may like this but I found it frustrating because going to class was pretty much pointless.
I loveee this prof! he might seem intimidating at first, but he's really nice. If you're worried about your grade, go talk to him and he does his besttt to help you out. I would definitly recomendd him. Don't bother with the textbook.. just know his ppt slides and you're solid, i didn't go to class too much and got an A in both 397 and 213.
A bit hard to follow, but seems like the test will be easy, and he is hilarious. Throws in jokes that make the classes enjoyable.
Awesome prof! Take him if you got social science options left
His section of Geog 205 is the easiest. His entire test is right off his lecture slides, which he doesn't add anything to in lecture. He does have an accent, but I had no difficulty upstanding him at all.
Nice guy but very hard to understand, mumbles 75% of a sentence.Exam was brutal because I couldn't understand the places he was stating in class. I'm sure if you could understand him, it'd be easier.
Love Slezak, such a nice guy and super funny. He genuinely cares about how you do in his class and although his powerpoints are out of date (and simply wrong in some cases) his tests are super easy and lecture is entirely optional. Also, you don't have to buy the text book because he doesn't take any questions from it. Take the class!
Peter was great, helpful, approachable, and a pretty funny guy. Did not use the textbook, exams were based on his lectures. You have to go to all the classes and take notes to do well. I had a great experience in his class. He does speak with an accent but it is not as bad as others have said, just pay attention and you will be fine.
USSR I got a B+, Not an easy A. I think his intentions are good and he is a nice guy, but he goes through tons of power point slides per class. His midterm and final (MC + Essay) had random questions about facts like "the first two cities connected by airlines were.." I would avoid if possible, too much trivia for marks. Paper was graded fairly
Best prof ever!!! His MC tests tend to focus on details and the written on general info so it's not an easy A class, but if you study and take notes in lecture you can get an A no problem
Peter is a nice guy, he appears to be extremely willing to help students whom ask for it. Its not enough to attend lectures, but to also take detailed notes. You will get very lost on midterms/the final otherwise. I studied exclusively from the textbook/slides and walked out with a B-. Not a sleeper class!
Great prof, very friendly and helpful. Always answers any questions that are asked. Need to pay attention in class to do well on exams. Exam bank from the Palliser (Geography) Club was helpful for exams.
Peter is awesome! He is probably my favourite prof I have had. His lectures are interesting and his stories are pretty funny. You have to attend all the classes and you have to take good notes on what he is saying to do well, but if you do that you should do well in his class.
Mr. Slezak is helpful and knowledgeable. However, this course is not that easy as some people are saying it to be. You still have to study quite a bit to get an A. Plus, few of the example test banks and tophatmonocle questions are recycled into the test. Students who may have gotten his old exams from other people prob. got a good grade. Lucky!
Mr. Slezak is a fantastic professor, he is a kind man and that kindess is reflected in his style of teaching. No matter what kind of question you may have he is more than interested in helping you and is by far one of the most friendly individuals I have met. However, this is a class in which you cannot slack off, tests are fair to those who study.
THE TESTS ARE REALLY HARD! study study study to do well! But all in all he is a good professor. But he definitely leaves it up to you to do well.
Peter is a phenomenal professor and is a joy to listen to in class. He does a great job of explaining his material but make sure to take notes in lecture along with his posted notes. He is quite humorous and makes the class laugh frequently. He is very honest with his students and wants everyone to succeed. Just make sure to study!!!
Peter is an awesome professor. He is very knowledgeable about his material and his delivery is very clear and straight forward. He is very funny and I enjoyed attending all of his lectures, as opposed to Drs Blue and Yackel. Highly recommended as a professor.
Awesome professor. Any time a student would ask a question, he would take as long as needed to asnwer until the student was satisfied. Called himself bell-shaped when talking about a population model or something, I laughed so hard.
Professor Slezak is very knowledgable when it comes to geography, however, his class is extremely difficult if you do not have much previous knowledge. He wants you to succeed, but his tests are inconsistent with the material covered and will throw curveballs at you. If this is not a required course I strongly advise avoiding this class with him.
good prof and very helpful
Great class! It's great because you get to learn a little bit about most of the regions in the world. Dr. Slezak is very approachable and will answer any of your questions if you go to his office hours. Exams are fair. Go to class and go over the notes, you will get an A- no problem. You don't even need the textbook for 213
Great Prof! READ SLIDES, MEMORIZE THEM, do the practice midterms and finals and you will get an A, I got an A- without going to class and without getting a text book. Peter is very approachable.
Just the best
Peter is one of the greatest profs in the building. He is nice and always open to answering questions. The course is straightfoward and easy. If you are taking this course, please ask some questions for the poor guy.
This is NOT an easy A. Slezak does not use the textbook at all so don't bother spending the money. His tests are challenging and require you to read "between the lines" when interpreting information. Memorize EVERYTHING in his slides as tests look to see who really knows random irrelevant information.
He's a deserving Doctoral that wants all his students to understand the material and not just get good grades, and is very approachable and loves to teach students. To do well in the course make sure to have a good mind of memorization to memorize key events, history and such from his notes, thats how you'll understand this course. He's the best
Geography of Canada. This is a cake class. All you have to do is memorize the slides. Do a presentation instead of a paper and you are golden. You don't even have to attend every single class. Would recommend to anyone.
Just study the slides and you will be fine because all the exam questions will be based on them. He is pretty straightforward and very passionate about his subject. I really liked him.
His one of the best profs at UofC ever! Very good, approachable, knowledgeable prof. Interesting and easy class, don't listen to them whose says it is difficult course, just attend, listen, and read slides (which contains many pics) and that is it you can get an at least B+ easily.
Peter is an awesome teacher and he's really nice and approachable too. I wasn't really interested in Geography before I took the course, now I am. His tests are a good level of difficult, and he also made some sample questions available, which is REALLY useful. Anyway, ill definitely take one of his classes again as long as he is teaching ~
Slezak is a wonderful prof. if you attend class, read the slides and ask him questions, you are guaranteed an A!
He's a great prof and gets to the point when he lectures. He's also so funny and creates a light atmosphere in class. His tests are not difficult at all if you study pretty much everything he touched on in lecture
Not an easy class. Yes, you need to memorize the slides, but he also mentions things in class that seem like unimportant off-hand comments, but are in the exams, and you need to actually think about and compare the info in the slides. Don't buy the textbook, he doesn't use it or assign readings, all exam content is from slides/lectures.
Peter is quite simply the best.
Easiest exams ever. Coming to class doesn't really help you get an A, but neither does solely relying on the notes. Listen to his lectures, understand them, memorize his notes word for word and you can be like me: finishing in less than an hour - writing a test and knowing every single answer without even having to think. Good luck!
Peter is an amazing prof and I would highly recommend him. I've taken Geog 213 and 397.02 (former USSR) with him. His lectures are great, he adds personal pictures that make it interesting. His test can be challenging if you don't know the material very well. He is very approachable if you have any problems, he does his best to help you out.
Really easy and interesting class. I really enjoyed his lectures on the material. The tests are fair, just listen in his lectures and study the powerpoints and you should do well. Definitely recommend this guy!
Slezak is the best teacher I have ever had. As long as you go to class you are guaranteed a good grade. He is very passionate about what he teaches and makes it very interesting with personal stories. I would highly recommend taking this class
Terrible class. No way to do well unless you know ALL of the material before taking the class. 85% of material on tests is never taught in class although prof assures there are 'no surprises.' Class is described as something for someone with little prior knowledge- absolute joke. Would rate less than 1.
Horrible class! Avoid at all costs. Doesn't use the textbook. Most of the material in the tests hasn't been taught.
He is hilarious and uses his personal experience from his travels to add to lectures. His accent is hard to get used to, but other than that he is great. if you attend lectures and just continually take notes (even if you think it might not be relevant) and study hard before the tests they are relatively easy! Very interesting course material too!
I love Slezak but he dropped the ball in 213 this year. He often would test on material that was never taught (I attended every lecture). His tests were extremely difficult, despite the class being 200-level. To anyone in 213, don't be discouraged from taking more classes with him, the 300-level courses are much more fair.
Slezak is a super chill prof. He's like the most adorable older person. He's really helpful and super nice.
not an easy class have to attend the lectures in order to pass...don't rely on the old exams (review them but this year he changed most of the questions) :(
I took GEOG 213 with him and it was very easy since I just used previous exams. In 205, there are no previous exams to access which makes his part of the class a little trickier. Just try to memorize his slides and you should do fine.
Midterms and final contained material that was not covered in class or in the textbook. He was convinced that his tests were easy although the class averages were not great. Extremely hard to follow in lectures (tone of voice, speed, lots of projector problems) and not helpful outside of lectures. Tended to just repeat himself instead of clarify.
Took 3 courses with Dr. Slezak. He isn't that bad of a prof, but his lectures sometimes can be dry; especially if geography isn't in your interests. Key to success in his courses are: 1) attend all lectures and take good notes 2) memorize his slides, important points of figures/maps 3) obtain practice/old exams - but DO NOT solely rely on these!
For a 200 level course the tests were extremely difficult and most of the things on them were never taught. Went to every class, took good notes, and had the previous exams and i still did not do well. Seriously avoid this class, lowest grade i've gotten in 2 and half years of university.
Nice man, very interesting, but HIS TESTS ARE UNREASONABLY HARD AND QUESTIONS ARE WAYYYYY TOO SPECIFIC. I really liked this subject going in and had a really hard time getting anything over a 75. Grading scale isn't in the class's favour either. I wouldn't take it again.
Slezak is a blessing for this course. Easiest prof among the three instructors.Didn't like him at first because he mumbles a lot. Turns out he is the nicest one. Would recommend.
Tests are way to specific, nothing in the textbook is used
Interest and experience was high going into this class, but absolutely horrible prof - went to every class, took very specific notes, read the textbook… Didn't help because nothing on the exam was covered in class.
he talks all class and expects you to memorize extremely specific information, his tests were almost never off the notes he gives, unless you record every single word he says you will not do well
He used to be a great proff, but the department gave him trouble for giving out too many A's. Now he makes phenomenally hard exams to bring down his averages. He said our 58% midterm was good, so if tha's okay, then take it, otherwise, take something else, there are no easy A's here.
I have not finished the class so the grade is not applicable, but I have done fairly well in the course so far. His exams have been horribly written, even the content which he has covered is not presented in an organized fashion the questions seem to be written in a format that is designed to trick you, not test your knowledge of the material
He was probably a good prof many years ago, but I felt that he has given up on putting effort into his class. He tests straight from the lecture slides he posted online, which has outdated information on most of them. Not the most professional and very boring, but easy enough if you memorize the slides.
Avoid this class. Absolute worst lector, and not a teacher. This should be the easiest class, but he goes off on tangents and the exams are horrible! He recycles old exams, which should be a good thing, but he changes the lectures every year, so the material doesn't match up to the exam. I paid a sad farewell to my 3.8 gpa.
Very Tough Class. Hard to know where test material comes from.
This class is honestly a bit of a crapshoot. Tests DO NOT match up with class material as a result of changes over the years which makes it extremely frustrating to study for. Textbook is useless but so are lectures so reading the slides is your best best. Extremely frustrating and an awful class in an otherwise stand-out department
This course is about the U.S. Really easy on the presentation/essay project, and helpful when you approach him. U.S. history and such is rich with a lot of interesting info. To those who complain of him for any course, this course is new with no past exams or such, so have the decency to study his notes like normal students and you will be awarded.
Worst prof I have had yet, test questions come out of nowhere you need to write down every little thing he says because he assumes you know everything he does. Tests based on what he thinks is "common knowledge" all questions are like 4 questions in one and he gets defensive when you confront him about anything. Avoid at all costs.
Sit in the front row and be prepared to listen really well because this man mumbles like you wouldn't believe. His accent makes it more difficult. His tests are hard as they are more random than focused on lecture material. But he's approachable outside of class to answer questions.
Best Prof in the department by a landslide.
Dr. Sleezy completely contradicts Dr. Yackel's preaching that geography is not "a category of trivia pursuit". Be prepared to be tested on the most ambiguous materiel and not be told that this will be the case. I can't believe ppl on here rip on Yackel and like this clown. Also I'm not saying this cause I'm not doing well, he's just a bad prof.
Peter Griffin was a good prof overall. Tests are super tough but I found his lectures on demographics very interesting! Liked him better than the other GEOG profs.
Unclear instructions, tested on material that seems unrelated. I'm about a B+ 4rth year student and I got a 66% on his portion of the course. I studied a good amount but the things that he tested on where more trivia questions than concept material which was very different from the other professors and not what I am used to.
Tells you that only 10% of the test is on the textbook, but ended up putting 95% in there.
Peter Slezak, the name that you don't want to see on your timetable. Not a bad guy necessarily but he talks like he has a whole bag of marbles in his mouth. His lectures are incredibly boring and his tests are like 50% textbook which he doesn't go over. Avoid if you can. if you take 205 you will have him sadly.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had! I could not understand a word he said! He would gallop through lectures never pausing to look up if someone had a question and would jump from topic to topic not making clear what was course material or personal anecdotes... Memorize seemingly inconsequential details in the text book!
This is by far the toughest course taken this semester, for an intro geography course, the tests are quite difficult. Your only hope is to write down everything he says and memorize all the slides, even then some of the questions from the midterm are very random and specific. Even though the course material is interesting, the test ruin it.
Dr. Slezak is a very enthusiastic professor! However, his exams were extremely difficult. You really have to come to class and write everything he says. He never discussed content from textbooks in lectures, but you need to study them. His section was very interesting but the he tests you on really specific things. NOT REALLY A GPA BOOSTER
I had to withdraw from this course. It's not easy at all!
literally do not ever take this class. he has the strongest accent and he doesnt make any sense
Peter Slezak is an all round good professor. He is willing to help you out alot and with a little engagement you will succeed in his class. He is also extremely knowledgeable about world affairs and geography, and just picking his brain on the subject matter is rewarding. His voice is a little unclear but you get used to it pretty early.
Peter Slezak is a pretty good professor in my opinion, Read the texbook, his first midterm will throw a lot of people off, so I suggest you go to his pre-exam sessions, he explains a lot. You just need to read, because there is a lot of content , and you don't want to get the facts mixed up.
Dr Slezak is a very passionate, enthusiastic instructor. I quite enjoyed his class, and he explained the content very well. His accent took maybe a lecture to get use to, but after everything was fairly clear. His PDF notes are very explanatory, and will be tested on rigourously.
This guy has so much knowledge about the world. I enjoyed listening about his travels and it has inspired me to plan trips of my own. His exams are very straightforward and he is a fair grader as well. Great prof.
Please DO NOT take this class. More than half of the people dropped this course before finals. His lectures are unclear and boring. He can be at times though. Exams are very unpredictable. I had to drop this course and suffered a lot for it with my student loans. He destroyed my interest for Geography. :(
Cool guy, knows his stuff. Mumbles quite a bit and has a pretty distinct accent. Interesting course, tests are fairly straight forward. Took this class thinking it was going to be an 'easy a'... Not quite.
His tests are actually ridiculous, he said in class a chart was not going to be on the test but it was. If you study a lot and read the textbook and constantly look at maps, you may get by. Lectures are mandatory! Try not to speak out in the class.
I could listen to him for hours. He is so interesting and engaging, even at 8am. Very knowledgeable about what he teaches.
If you show up to class and write everything that he says (all the side notes) you should have no problem. His notes are helpful but his lectures are more useful. He is very specific on exams asks the tiniest detail. For practice go to oneclass site. Also he bumps your grade if you come to class everyday.
Take this class as an easy option if you have the right resources. At times, it can be hard to make out what Peter is saying. He is very passionate about geography but the lectures themselves can be boring. Only thing that matters are the tests.
