best professor I've ever had
No Comments
explains very clear. Exams are hard but he bumps average up.. has the tendency to make math errors in this problems/answer sheets
Very challenging exams, but a good guy. I want to meet his son
Insane exams for 150A. All got adjusted 10-20%. Worth joining another class if you need a high average.
He has his own way of teaching, so it's hard to learn from the textbook - must go to class!! He means well, and he is VERY friendly, but it's close to impossible to do well on his exams, even if you feel like you know everything (exams have like 9 answers for M/C). He does offer good study sessions, and aside from his exams, he is a good prof...
Best prof! Very friendly and answers questions thoroughly. He cares greatly about his students and respects ALL questions. If you attend all classes and do the homework questions, you can easily score a grade of 95+! You don't have to read the textbook, but you need to know how to solve the assigned questions from the book for the exams.
Great prof. He's extremely approachable and friendly. His lectures were great, and if you take good notes in class you won't even have to touch the textbook all semester (except to do homework questions which appear on the quizzes).
Streufert is a great prof and an even better person. He really cares about his students' progress and truly wants the best for all of his students. He should be recognized for his teaching excellence.
Here is the only advice you need: understand the lecture examples and do the practice problems. Do those and unless you are a retarded monkey, u will easily get 70. He might throw you a curveball on tests (which ends up being only 2% of the overall test mark) but generally, he doesn't surprise you. u know he's a cool guy because he plays monopoly
Coolest guy and he is great at explaining things. Very approachable and always willing to help.
Great guy--Very relaxed and layed back as he lectures. His explanations are clear, analytical, intuitive, and precise. Do not skip over his problem sets and book problems as they will most likely appear on his predictable exams. I hardly thought it was an honours class, but then again I'm registered in the Science and not 'Social Science' dept.
Really, he is the BEST prof I've ever met. He's extremely friendly, he always like to help. LOVE THIS PROF
Absolutely my favourite professor at Western. He is very clear and has a genuine interest in helping students. Highly recommended
This prof gave me the worst experience in Econ I have ever had. The lectures he provides should be put into clinical research because it can make people with insomnia fall asleep. His class average was 45% for the second midterm and adjusted it to 55% because first midterm was "too high" (81%?). Had a bad time with him and definitely avoid.
He genuinely cares about his students and always makes sure that everybody understands something before moving on in the lecture. But he seriously needs to get more organized. Two of the exams started over 20 minutes late. The exams were either easy or incredibly difficult, and you had no way of knowing what difficulty to expect.
exams were unfair and he's quite boring.
Really hard prof. Tries to be engaging and is apretty nice guy, but if you need an average DO NOT go with this guy.
he is the best prof!
He is a really nice prof with super-hard exams, the only reason I chose him is that he is the only choice. He is pretty patient and easy-going but it is quite hard to stay awake in his class. Good luck to you guys if you choose him.
No point going to his lectures because all he does is read off the slides. I found the exam questions unfair compared to the practice ones he gives. DO NOT TAKE unless you want to be putting in A LOT of work outside of class as he doesn't explain things well. If you've taken econ in high school, you should be okay with him, but otherwise, avoid it.
Hard exams
No homework practice, just some general conclusion per chapter, did not utilize the textbook and some part of the exam just impossible to answer nor to understand. When reviewing there arent much material to work on since he didnt teach by textbook.
There's no point in going to lectures because he just reads off the slides. I taught myself entirely from the textbook and the course online resource and did very well. His exam questions are incredibly similar to the online resource practice questions, so if you do those you can definitely get a good grade!
He is a good person. Very patient and helpful if you go to his office hour. But the exams are hard.
Dr. Streufert is very smart man, but struggles explaining concepts simply and understandably. Overall a very nice guy, takes questions in class and genuinely interested in student success (sadly doesn't really translate). Exams are difficult, and not at all like homework questions. If you're in 2260, be sure to get past exams from other students...
His lectures are easy to understand but exams are hard. But he curves up the marks.
HARD EXAM
I never met a prof like Peter who can use a test like his nuclear weapon even he taught absolutely nothing in this hell-like course. to those who want to choose Peter, R.I.P
Lectures are kind of slow and he basically just says what's in the textbook. Also curves the grades down by like 10% :( His class is fine if you took economics in high school but it might be more difficult if you didn't.
I believe professor Streufert had a difficult time adjusting to the new learning environment with COVID. His personally made textbook is poorly written and does not explain the topics clearly. His exams are poorly formatted and seem to test more on mathematics than actual economics concepts. Would not recommend his class.
Peter Streufert is unable to properly adjust to the online learning format. Instead of making slideshows or video lectures, he is writing his own, incoherent version of the textbook and not using the one that we had to buy. Has turned economics into a calculus course and when asked if he could post videos or slides, said "online teaching is hard".
The fact that his lectures provide far less information than the textbook is irrelevant due to almost all test questions are already online meaning all those who cheat and barely work do very well. This produces an inflated average and the prof to dock everyone's grade by the amount the average is above 70. cheaters win w streuferd
Struefert's lectures are boring, confusing, and unhelpful. He wrote his own textbook to be used alongside the real textbook (confusing way to learn). Going into the final, I have no idea what I learned in this course as most of it was just mathematical calculations with no economic theory tied to it. by far the lowest mark ive gotten in uni
The lack of effort this year due to online learning is apparent. His lectures give less information than the textbook does, and is difficult to contact consistently. Seems like he might be better in person, but he clearly has not adapted well to the online format, but he expects us to adapt with no issues.
Don't take course w Peter. He creates his own textbook and uses it to teach most of course content, and then switches to the regular textbook 3/4 into the semester. This transition is beyond difficult since the whole course you follow his specific way of answering questions, and then the textbook bends you over since you don't know how to approach.
This prof created his own textbook to go hand in hand with the actual textbook, making this course incredibly difficult to navigate. His textbook is difficult to comprehend as it simply throws complex mathematical formulas at you. I haven't learned a thing about economics in this course and I'm a straight-A student who rarely complains about profs.
Streufert has managed to make every single teacher I have had since kindergarten appear deserving of a noble prize. He cannot teach and frankly doesn't try to, so get excited for calc 2.0. The only time he tried explaining something over the semester was when he curved us down 11% on 2 midterms. Destroyed my mental health this year!
Streufert has just turned economics into a poorly explained calculus course. He has neglected teaching actual economic concepts and makes his exams unnecessarily difficult in comparison to the other economic professors. He also completely changed the way he taught the course for the last 3 lessons, making it difficult to study for the final
literally, just don't take his class. Econ is a fine subject but 1. I taught myself everything 2. he curves tests and exams down I wish someone wrote that here bc then I wouldn't have taken his class and got stuck with a mark 5-10% lower than the mark I actually earned. he's a nice man but i have swear words to describe how i feel about this man
Professor Streufert is a nice guy, but, he does not teach in a traditional style. He wrote his own textbook, which us a class used for 75% of the semester. He made a switch to a different textbook but attempted to use his methods from his textbook and had us apply them to the new textbook. This was very hard as he did not give clear instructions.
One of the most confusing classes I have taken during COVID. I feel sorry for anyone who has to read the tedious mess he calls a textbook that was created to go alongside the actual course text. Just pages upon pages of unhelpful paragraphs and math formulas. I honestly don't think I have learned anything useful and I would avoid his online classes
This man is absolutely derailed. What kind of professor goes out of their way to craft an entire textbook that makes no sense? Did he want to supplement the course content? No, because that would be a sane thing to do. This man created an entire textbook to SUBSTITUTE THE COURSE. Yes, the entire course was delivered through his word-vomit PDFs.
Takes days to respond to emails. Hasn't adapted to online learning environment very well. He wrote his own textbook that is supposed to easily help us transition to the main textbook, but it only made things more confusing Be prepared for a math-heavy economics class.
his class is a disaster which fully shows that he didn't prepare for teaching an online class. he used his own textbook to teach before the last 3 weeks. his textbook is incomplete so he just threw 75% Eco main textbook in the last 3 weeks. no videos, ridiculous curve down and tech issues in every test but he requires you to prepare fully.
Man gave me depression. PLEASE take anyone but him
his exam was unlike anything he taught us all semester and was ridiculously difficult. he used his own textbook to teach 3/4 of the semester but none of that material was on the final exam. extremely unhelpful in emails and he seems exasperated when asked to clarify basic concerns and questions. makes me reconsider my major.
Final exam average was 63%, take that for what it's worth.
Don't take this class unless you want a grade below what you earned. He curves all his tests down so the average is at a 70. The final exam had questions he never taught in class and was unreasonably difficult. He does not know how to conduct an online class or write tests for online use.
Received over 90% on every midterm but this prof curved marks down so hard that I ended up with less than 80% as a final grade. Impossible to do well with this guy.
nice guy, but did not adjust to the online format well. Curves the class down by an insane amount, and had difficult questions on the final that were never seen before. Self taught myself the course. Mark ended up 5-10% lower than what it was supposed to be.
I do not recommend taking Professor Streufert's class online. I watched the first week's lectures and could not continue as they were too boring and intolerable. I did this entire course from the textbook. While the content of Econ1021 was not particularly hard, he marked his tests on a curve, lowering everyone's marks. Do not recommend!
He isn't very organized and nothing really is on time. He posts lectures 3 days later than he said he should be posting and sometimes even longer. This makes it a time crunch especially when you have a lab tutorial the next morning. Tests were easy and make sure you do all Mylab practice to get a good mark.
Do not take this class online. He wrote the absolute worst and most confusing textbook of all time. Almost as if he wrote it with the intent of making your life hell. He uses a combo of 2 textbooks that conflict entirely. The SE textbook is just made up material that you can't find help for anywhere online. Coming from a dedicated student.
He will adjust to lower the score of the exam.
Self taught course, impossible to do well in this class. Try your best to get a different prof
He expects you to magically know all the concepts, especially last semester when his class was online, there was not enough teaching and more expectations. The examples discussed in class were baby food compared to what showed up on the exam. He says the honours course is supposed to challenge you, but he doesn't put in the effort to explain prprly
Professor Streufert is a kind and caring professor. He posts the resources on due time and very quick to respond to emails. It was a pleasant experience to be in his class. He is by far the best Econ professor.
Good guy
He did not use textbook at all and expected us to know the stuff through lectures.
Everything is taught out of a textbook he wrote which is easily the worst textbook I have ever read as it does not explain topics.. There are very few practice questions given which makes studying extremely difficult. Try your best to change professors.
The label of the course is economics but in reality, it's a do-it-yourself calculus course. He made his own textbook as if he had the intent of making you miserable and hoping that all his students fail.
You can tell he is very smart and knowledgeable about economics and the subject he is teaching, but may be the worst teacher I have ever experienced. Makes the class a million times harder than it should be. When I teach myself I start to get it, but his lectures are basically speaking another language. Class average on an ECON MIDTERM was a 54!!
PLEASE AVOID TAKING STREUFERT. His lectures will put you to sleep. He makes simple topics seem complex. Oh, and he DIDN'T SEND A SINGLE EMAIL TO THE CLASS ALL YEAR. He's clearly too smart for the course. He has a Ph.D from Stanford, writes complex papers on game theory... but teaches first years econ 101. It's like Einstein teaching 5 year olds.
AVOID DIY calc class, lectures are terrible, sounds like he's speaking gibberish. Doesn't explain anything, boring lectures. All material based of a textbook he wrote, worst textbook ever as it doesn't explain how to do anything. Clearly too smart to be teaching this course.
As others have said, this is essentially a Do-it-yourself calculus course. The professor wrote his own textbook that overcomplicates even the simplest topics, and is formatted extremely poorly. You will absolutely fail this course if you don't read his custom textbook cover-to-cover, which is unfortunate because he's actually a very nice person.
He is the most caring professor teaching principles courses in economics.
Here it is plain and simple: Lectures are boring af, he reads off the slides Tests are super hard and many drop the course He will drop your GPA I could write forever about how much I hate this guy but yeah do not take him
Nice and smart guy, but horrible prof. Worst one I've ever had. He is not helpful at all. Super vague. Wont tell you anything about what is going to be on the exam or the format. Refuses to give helpful examples in class. Exams are all short answer. Avoid him at all costs. I wish I knew how horrendous of a teacher he was before I took his class.
If you can switch to the same econ class with a different professor, I 100% recommend you do. Our first midterm average was almost 20% lower than all the other econ 1021 classes.
Get out while you can. Nice guy, very smart but doesn't translate to teaching. Lectures consist of talking about equations rather than doing them. Exams have low averages (40's, 50's). I feel like I didn't learn anything in this class, just tried to survive.
Definitely the most difficult professor I've had at Western. I would consider myself a fairly smart student who did decently well in econ first year (~80%), but his tests I could barely pass. I strongly suggest switching out of his course - he writes his own tests and they are extremely difficult.
Overall the class is terrible. If you have the chance to take 1021 with any other prof please save yourself and do it. I know a lot of people who dropped his course because he can't teach and everyone is failing in the class.
He is very respected professor, but he does not know how to make Economics question papers. He uses his own 'sandbox' textbook filled with useless math questions and confusing you more about economics. Never take his class.
He gave no information of what our exams would be like. When a student would ask what would be on it and what the layout would be like, he said and I quote "I want to keep the exams mysterious". So we all went into the midterms having no clue what they would be like. They weren't multiple choice they were weird fill in the blanks. AWFUL LECTURES
Streufert is definitely the worst prof I've had. His lectures are very boring. He speaks in a soft, monotone manner, and had very few slides. He will often have a very complicated graph on the board, and talk about the same image for half the lecture (not an exaggeration). It is practically impossible not to doze off. The exams are horrible too.
Get out of his class if you can. Terrible at explaining and super boring to listen to. His exams are virtually impossible and consistently have a 20% average lower than the other profs. Terrible econ experience for me.
The worst professor I have ever had. Created his own textbook to use for the course which explains economic concepts in the most confusing and complex way possible. Refused to give any information about the exams, and stated that "he hasn't taught a course like this before, so he is unable to give us any hints". He has taught multiple ECON classes.
The man can not teach the first 75% of the course it is taught out of his own textbook which is easily the most poorly formatted and written textbook I have ever read. His lectures are also very confusing, provide no clarity, and he gives no practice problems to prepare you for the exam.
Most generous economics professor of principles. Adjusted grades up after all exams. Kind and cordial. Very good lectures.
He speaks in a very montone voice making it hard to pay attention to his lectures. Furthermore, he does a bad job at preparing the students for his exams since all you really have is the lecture notes. All you need to know is that the average in his class was significantly lower then other profs. If you take econ1026 find another prof.
Really nice guy and all the lectures were posted online. He makes the exams pretty hard but curves the course average up to a 70 which helped everyone out lots (Class average was in the 50s before the final). Overall pretty good, the curve was goated.
The Cours seems relatively straight forward as well as the homework, but the exams are just next level. The homework and textbook readings do not prepare you at all for the exam.
I have never taken economics before and he made it so difficult to understand. The first midterm class average was 45%. I ended up dropping the course because his lectures were unbearable and SO unclear. Take any other prof if you can. Save yourself.
Hard exam!!
he is actually the worst professor you can have. He literally prays on your downfall and this class will be the only reason your gpa will be compromised. for your own sake, please dont take this class. Avoid it all cost.
hated this class with a passion
Not economic is math class at all
This professor is the only one at university that I will look extra hard to avoid. His lectures put you to sleep, they are so boring. Forget about getting practice on your own because all of the practice in his own made textbook only provides final answers and there is never a real solution to how to solve problems. Please drop this prof
has nothing on his slide deck
