Easy class. Can use notes during test. Book is very good. Gets off topic a lot during leacture. but very funny and cool
His test ?'s are poorly phrased causing a lot of us to mess up on the exams (which he admits). He is a very cool guy and funny. Allows you to use notes during exams, so take good ones! However, there is no curve and no extra credit. So study hard!
test wording canbe confusing, but drops 7 questions every test & super easy & lets you use notes on tests & final! how cool is that?
gets good ratings for his inept teaching methods that leave you none the wiser after wasting a semesters worth of your life and 1000 dollars. then covers his ass by taking questions off the exam.
tests are poorly phrased and misleading (which he admits but does nothing about), however he is an awesome person! open notes is great, do all the hw, every point COUNTS!!!!
Funny professor.
Class is fairly easy. Make sure you read the book. His exams are challenging and lecture is a waste of time. READ the book and you'll do well.
goes off in tangents. funny guy though. take good notes for the test and you're set (i.e. not just vocab). good curve. B's are shift down but C remains to get more B's than C's.
Class is fun but the tests are SO CONFUSING. U just have to be a good guesser! Why does he keep the ambiguious language? If every class complains, doesn't he realize he has a problem making tests? ! I took excellent notes and still got a B!! He needs to take a test-making class!
The tests ARE very confusing and you need to have lecture notes as well as book notes, his tests are about 50/50. Very good lectures though, funny and good examples. I didn't do well on the tests but felt like I learned more here than classes I got A's in.
He is a funny professor, relates class to his life and past experience. Tests are difficult, because they are always open notes. Overall pretty simple class
Interested in Management, don't take Thompson, tests are confusing and hard and you will lose your interest in the class.
do homework and get notes from others who already took class or are in it. i never went to class except for tests and to turn in HW and got a B

Thompson was a stroke- but a funny guy, that made his bs logic seem believable- Take notes in class, outline chapters, and turn in homework- its not that bad at all, but tests are application , that is key to this class.
a very hard teacher and all he talkes about is his wife and his daughter. Took him a semester ago and he sucked. All the class average was pretty low and he does not curve the finals. All he sais is "I got an A on the exam" and the TA never had a clue of what was going on in the class. She never cared about anybody..very disappointed.
Hard teacher.. Tests don't make sense at all.
His tests don't make sence, and he refuses to curve the exams. Its extremly ambigious. I would highly recommend that you take another professor.
Thompson is a very interesting man. Tests are open notes, and very easy. Although the final was cumulative and much harder. Just make sure to do all the homework because it's easy points and take notes in class.
Tests maybe open notes, but the questions are made to confuse you. Hw is easy n shorts. The final will screw u over since iss worth the most!!! Dont take this jackass..he from philly!
His wording of questions makes the exams very confusing, so brace yourself! Try attending to every lecture not just to turn in the homeworks, but also to take notes of off-textbook remarks that he makes. Some of them actually show up in the exam!
He is a very interesting professor, I loved his stories and they made the class fun. Overall the material covered is very easy but the tests are very confusing, but if you are one of those people that have common sense you'll do good. Extra credit is available and it could really help you. Hw is very EASY.
Prof. Thompson is an excellent storyteller. This made lecture fun to attend. However, when it came time for tests, he really shoots from the hips. His questions will ALWAYS be worded so that it can be any of the 5 possible multiple choice answers. This makes the class tough to get an A but easy to slide by with a B. Also, it's worthless to argue q'
Boring lectured do not make any sense. Heavy use of the textbook, the EXTREMELY DETAILED notes are required for the midterms and final. The tests, though are very hard. The homework assignments are easy, and can really boost up your grade, lowered a lot by the midterm results.
He is the worst professor ever! He constantly jokes around in class (waste of time).
Prof. Thompson is a great story teller that pertains to the classroom material (unlike some professors). If you have trouble with any material, he is always there in his office to help you. He really cares for his students.
He is a very funny guy. Class is entertaining. Hw is easy and make sure you do the extra credit. You really have to show up to class everyday because his tests are based on lecture. Tests are very tricky.
He's a good teacher, a great CUBS fan (lol) loved his stories, exams are kind of tricky but they're open notes! wish I could take another class with him
Most of the questions that were on his test came directly from what he said in lecture. I recorded his lectures and typed them up later for the tests (You're allowed to use your notes for all 4 of his tests). I noticed answers came directly from the lecture notes. Supplement some backup notes from the book and you'll get an A like me.
Good teacher everything he said made sense. Tests are really easy... they are open notes. Take advantage of the extra credit!!! Overall, I really think he has been the best teacher I have had at UIC.
great guy. i had him in a small class, and so it was great to have the interaction. He really makes you work for the grade, but he helps you every step of the way.
Mr. Thompson was a good teacher. He hints generously at what will be on the open note exams. Going to class definitely helps boost the grade. The only problem I had is that he would sometimes go off on a tangent and wouldn't really relate it back to our topic.
LOVE HIM! Very wise man! I wish I could take him for all my management classes! He gives great life lessons through his teaching style. Take him! He's one of the best teachers I've had at uic.
Bring lecture, questions in the midterm or exam confusing like hell ! tricky and nonsense. Not helpful class at all ! anyway, he is funny sometimes.
Pretty good teacher. He is entertaining and definitely loves the cubs. because tests are open note, i would suggest outlining the book and definitely attending lecture because some of what he says is straight on the test. tests are tricky so get as much info as you can. homework is simple.
You need to go to class because tests are based on what he says which sometimes is different from the book. tests are open notes and his tests can be tricky. lectures are boring and drag. Easy B, plenty of extra credit.
You get the feeling that he enjoys watching people struggle on the exams. His exams are by far the worst I've ever taken during my college years. This is a heartless dimwit and his questions are unforgiving.
Great guy. His lectures are very good, he knows how to get your attention so his class is definitely not dull. You definitely have to attend evey lecture and read the book. Homework is easy but his exams are insane, hardest exams I have ever taken at UIC.
This guy is hilarious. Test's are not that bad if u actually take notes(which you use on the test anyway. my suggestion is find someone who took it last sem and buy their notes. ..write that down lol
Bring your book to class!! He reads right from the text and only discusses the information you need to know. I found it best to just follow along and highlight. He also says a few things that are not in the text book so try to take notes as well.
His exams are EXTREMELY HARD! Even though its open notes, he makes them impossible. Lectures are somewhat helpful, but he expects us to understand the whole book! avoidd him
Peter Thompson could be used as an example in a thesis that suggest that there is a direct correlation between blindly following catholicism and stupidity. This is about the only use I can think of for this man. Buy a highlighter, buy the text, goto class, highlight what he says, easy B. Do this from the first day, easy A. Tests aren't bad.
His exams are very difficult and he says one thing but then changes his mind. Says he will be teaching out of the book but then says he doesn't agree with the book.. Overall class was demanding and the homework was pointless.
Very easy class - Buy the textbook, attend class and take notes on lecture. Do all the homework (they're super easy) and extra credit. I always just cram the exams and still able to get A on that class, as long as you type the notes and attend the lecture, you will either get A or B..
Great Teacher. Go to the class and listen. Take notes and you will get an easy A
His tests are brutal. He's a funny professor but when it comes to grades, he's a hardheaded guy. The learning experience is very rewarding.
REALLY ambiguous exams, I hated him for that. You must go to class because he will change stuff in textbook and def put it on the exam. Take detailed lecture notes. He knows his stuff. Somewhat entertaining lecture. Even though he is tough, I got the impression he cares about the students.
You basically need to learn to think like him. Yes, exams are really ambiguous and he changes the book around to reflect HIS opinion but if you go to class, stay awake, and write down every time he says WRITE IT DOWN (minus his movie suggestions), you'll do great.
This class is easy, the tests are not that hard, you'll get some wrong but it is mostly common sense. Thompson is an ok guy, but he does over simplify things, he LOVES building straw-men to support his arguments, wait until he talks about unions and Globalization. Other than that, if you get to know him hes okay, if you don't hes abrasive at best
Not an easy class however if you study very very hard and go to lecture and take notes and do ALL he tells (except movie names) you to do you can do well. Homework grading on the other hand by the TA not so great.
Great Professor; knows what he is talking about and provides life experiences to back it up unlike other professors. Loved his humor.
Classes were not bad. He mixes definitions with examples from life, that is very helpful. The tests are BAD, he should change the way he writes them.
Whatever he covers in class will be on the exam. You better adapt to his mentality when his exams come. Open note exams (use every table in the book), but they're detailed and very tricky. I got an A. There's lots of extra credit. Do not wait until the last minute to do an ethics lecture and don't miss hw. Tough course, but funny guy. Great prof
Bring the book to class and take notes during the lecture. His teaching is straight out of the book, and he will tell you what to highlight. Do the extra credit and you'll get an A.
His class is total B.S, get an "A" my foot. You can read the book, take great notes (with all the figures) and take the test and end up with a "C." His tests are phrased so that each of the answers are right. Not to mention he's an incompetent professor who wastes time talking about his family or hockey. "Write this down" Thompson you can't teach.
I hated this class, he wastes time in class with stupid stories, very sarcastic, and his tests are awful. They are phrased in a way where All of the above and none of the above are an answer. I got a D average on his 3 tests, but got a C on the final. He made the final easier (You just needed like 45 of 50 to get a 100%). I ended up with B
The class is very poorly organized. On each midterm the class average was below 61%. NO CURVES EITHER. Unless you were/are in the mulitary do NOT take his class- He has a crush on mulitary guys, LOL
One of the easiest classes ever. His exams are all open-note and based on his lecture and book, so read and take at least halfway-decent notes and you'll get an A. Homework are all "gimme" points, which will boost your grade, and he gives about 65 points extra credit (in a 1000 point course).
Useless Professor for this class. If you really want to learn about Management take someone else, odds are you will have a better time with this subject. He is a poor teacher and probably only got a job at UIC due to the budget cuts. When the economy picks back up he will surely work for some below average community college.
Cool professor. You can tell by his stories he is a veteran of the business world and uses personal storys to tie in with the book which are actually pretty funny. Tests are kinnda hard but only because there open note and spending too much time searching for an answer can kill you, but extra credit kicks in too at the end so easy A/B with effort
I took his class as an honors section and I enjoyed the class discussions. He has a lot of knowledge to offer to the honors students. The memos are hard to get a good grade on, but as the semester progresses the grades tend to improve and he allows redo's. There are no exams, so the class is solely based on homework and memos.
Class is pretty straightforward, go to class and take down the notes he says, tests are open notebook. Homework assignments are due at the end of class so you have to show up to turn them in, or have someone else turn it in for you. Take good notes and you'll get a good grade
Open note tests, so take very detailed notes from the book (and some stuff he says in class, except movie names lol) and you should be fine. Some test questions can be too ambiguous. Lectures are pretty good, he tells stories relating to the material in the book. Easy class, with good notes you should get an A.
He is a funny prof but his test are insane You can read the chapters but he tends to twist things and put them in his own logic if you want an A DO NOT miss hw and do them in his order with extra credit and mercy points an A is possible but its an easy B
His test are very ambiguous and frustrating because you can justify you're answer but it winds up being wrong. Short answer would be the best solution. For my class he used an out of print book and didn't post the isbn until the fri before class started. He made homework due the first thurs so a lot of people were scrambling to find a book. Bookstore didn't have the book until the 2nd week of school. I got an A in his class but he is a terrible teacher.
His lectures are ok, except sick of those MMS rants (Military, Movie and Sports). He needs to pick some more contemporary examples, what is going on in business today. EXAMS are another story. They are horrible, and he blames it on the students that we are lazy and etc. But his questions are ambiguous and stupid, so impossible to get it right.
He is confused, oldfashioned, and not up to date with today's business world. Constantly contradicts himself. Tests are so vague that you don't know what he is looking for you can understand the material perfectly, study for hours and still get a C.
Very frustrating! He does the opposite of what he teaches. He is not motivating at all, tests are ambigious and written in a way that will confuse you. You can understand and know the material, but still do horrible on the test. He doesn't even give the tests back or tell you a class average score. So pretty basically, avoid if you can!
Awesome professor!!! Easily one of my most favorite at UIC. He is funny, tells awesome stories, and is very intelligent! Although his tests are nearly impossible, I'll give you a couple hints to get a good grade. Do all his Extra Credit, Read every chapter, note take on MS word each example/definition from book, and attend every lecture! A or B!
Awful, awful class. He stood in front of the class and read aloud from the book, adding in his own side commentary. His exam questions are so incredibly ambiguous that it is a wonder anyone did well in the class. I have no idea how I got an A, but I did. Read read read the book and memorize, do all the homework because he gives ec for completion
Go to his lecture, take book notes. He talks about himself all the time.
If you go to class and take notes on practically whatever he mentions you will do decent in the class. Open note tests but EVERY question is a,b,b and a, all the above. He's a cool guy. Really liked him as a professor, tells a lot of stories and keeps you interested (at least I was).
Easily can tell the Professor knows the field and his "war stories", as I like to call them, relate the book concepts to real life situations. Although a great professor, maybe one of the best CBA has to offer, his tests are ridiculously ambiguous as previously mentioned. He words the tests in a way where every answer can be true. Take good notes.
He's a very nice guy. The test (open notes) are tricky but just take your time and read the material. Plenty of extra credit available.
Thompson is okay. His lectures are entertaining but his tests are very tricky. Many responses were either "A and B" or "all of the above" on all of his tests. His curve at the end was 20 points out of 1000...which isn't much at all. Textbook is necessary for homework and be sure to write down everything he says in class (besides his stories).
Here is how I got an A/B: Attended every lecture, wrote everything that came out of his mouth and I mean everything, did the homework, attended the ethics lecture for e.c., copied all the definitions and exhibits from the textbook in my notes. Finally the 20 mercy points pushed me over from a B to an A. Put some effort and you can get an A or a B.
Open note tests right all definitions from book. Tests reflect if you're a good test taker a,b,c, a&b, or b&c. Plenty extra credit avaiable. Lecture is pointless though his stories can be entertaining. an 8th grader who knows how to take tests, good notes, and do homework and extra credit on time should have no problem getting an a.COMMON SENSE
Hated this class. Exams were really bad.. i dont even want to talk about it.. Makes his students buy new books every year yet he complains about how bad they are. You could buy the older versions even the international and just get the hw problems from a friend. This class made me kick my dog out pure anger, i had to buy him a Whoper afterwards :(
As an Engineer, this class is easy. I rarely study and I manage to do OK. The exams are curve and extra points are given. If English is not your strongest( like me) go to the writing center. He also offers extra credits. Write down everything he said in addition to your own notes from the book.
I LOVE Thompson. Many people complain about how hard/tricky his tests are, but if you actually attend class they are not that bad. I love how he lectures by giving personal stories to support the topic. Great guy, take his class!!
Surprisingly, I actually really enjoyed this class although I had heard negative things prior to taking it. Thompson is an extremely charismatic speaker, offers tons of extra credit, lets you redo your homework and the tests are all open notes! I'm considering switching my major to management after taking this course with Thompson!
Test were challenging
If you can take this course at a community college, do it. He's very set in his ways and his tests are based on his personal opinions and not on actual material. Tough class, easy on homework, but very tough tests.
His test are really hard! They are open notes but you can have nothing to do with the book. I HATE HIS TESTS.
Professor Thompson is amazing. Just follow his guidelines and you will pass this class with a good grade. His tests are a little hard. Take notes, study the book and use your logic and common sense when you take the test.
Really great professor. The best I took so far at UIC. His material is fair, expect to read the book and attend his lectures. His tests are tricky but if you put in work into the class, it should be fairly easy.
Worst time at UIC. His lectures are interesting, but has nothing to do on the text books and his questions can be answered various ways. If possible carry a recorder. He LITERALLY goes on his test from what he says. BUT AVOID him if possible
You need to take super good notes. and i mean word for word that comes out of his mouth. Some of the stories will pop up in the exams. The first exam is usually bad because that where you learn his style but the second one gets a lot better. Def things he say in class is more powerful than reading the book. Homework is due in the 2nd lecture.
Here's how to make an A: read the textbook (really), show up, take perfect notes, and use common sense on the tests. You're going to fail the first test, but there is extra credit via homework. The concepts are extremely useful and interesting. Very knowledgeable teacher (which is a nice change compared to most). Don't be disrespectful in class.
Tests are not about knowledge of the material or the ability to apply concepts learned to situations. His test are about guessing the way he thinks, he said that not me! He contradicts himself. Sometimes he applies logic to his answers and other times he wants you to disregard that same logic. He says he cares, if he did, he'd change.
His tests are totally confusing! Not about the book, but about the way he thinks.
Very nice professor. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. Take good notes. Im making an A in his class.
Great professor with in-the-field experience and stories. He is very thorough on his explanations. Yes, he is a bit hard (did you forget this was college?), but that's nothing some good notes, listening, and reviewing can't help. He also provides many extra-credit opportunities, which is also a plus.
the tests are really unfair in my opinion, when we had in class discussion over the answers he basically waived us off on his opinion is the correct way and basically failing this class is better than failing the future... how can students get to the future if he fails us on his opinion based class?
Interesting class and professor I highly reccomend him. People who are complaining are most likely expecting an A to be dropped in front of them. The class requires work, a lot of note taking and common sense. You will most likely struggle with the first test but will do better. He also throws out ec at the end
I truly feel sorry for anyone that takes this class. Avoid if possible. The university has some ignorant professors. P.T. is definitely on top of that list!
Great Professor, really makes the class interesting. Important to go to every class and take good notes. Tests are very hard, but are open notes. If you go and take good notes you'll be fine.
Horrible. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. To pass this course, you must record his every word and transcribe them into readable notes. He argues with the book that he has been using for a few semesters. You must outline the book because some material will be on the exam, but majority of the exam is based on his horrible, irrelevant stories.
He was a Pretty good professor. His first exam pretty much everyone failed and he warned us we would if we didn't prepare for it. Skim the book, listen to him, and do extra credit you can get an A.
The lectures are great. Listening to him talk is fun and he is always telling jokes. Use a laptop to write notes & a voice recorder helps to catch anything you miss. The exams are HARD. Some people get it, most don't. No matter how many notes you have, they won't help. Nothing is from the notes. The only way is to think like him.
TAKE NOTES! This is very important to doing well in his class. He tells a lot of stories to help relate the material into real life. His tests can be challenging for students who "overthink" the questions. Do the homework, take notes, and don't over think the exams and you'll be fine. Great professor! Wish he taught other MGMT courses @ UIC.
1100 total points. 100 of which are extra credit. make sure to do all the homeworks to get the extra credit. exams are based on his own opinion so this class is really about learning how he thinks. Pretty easy A
Horrible professor, test are based on lecturers which is just him talking no visuals whatsoever. Test are all based on his opinions and views and are really hard. He did't even curve an 89.9% to an A which is ridiculous. Avoid unless you want to hear what is favorite movies are....
He tells stories most of the time instead of explaining the content and you have to listen to his every word to get a good grade. His test are tricky. I would not take him.
It's not a bad class honestly. You have to try and put an effort in this class. The homework isn't difficult at all. The exams are a bit tough. Just make sure you take a lot of notes and you really don't have to study very hard, since you can use notes on all exams. Try and you'll pass.
Mr. Thompson is easily one of the coolest and funniest professors I have ever had. He cares about his students on a deeper level than simply classroom performance. He took the time out of his day to sit and talk with me about my personal life. It was a pleasure to have him as a professor and I will truly miss him and his
Got d's on te exams but still managed to pass with a B in the class. Just make sure you do the homework correctly to recieve ec.. Offers ALOt of extra credit plus he does merciful pts and it's better than a curve. He's a nice cool funny guy.. And class was entertaining We heard student voices more than his own, because he allowed discussions.
I was scared to take this class! I got a C+ on the big test & I was even more terrified. But if you record him during lectures & take notes & read ahead before he lectures, you can get an A. DO ALL the extra credit opportunities, major points!! HW are very short & easy, tests are TRICKY! but you'll get the hang of it! Good luck!
Professor Thompson is a helpful professor. Do everything he says, write down everything he says, do not miss any homework, extra credit is very beneficial in this course. He is a funny professor but he is not easy.
Everything is based on his opinions. There are a few tests and all based on his lectures. Most of the answers are all the above. It's very confusing. He makes all the answers seem right. Do the hw and extra credits, you'll get an A even if you don't do well on the tests.
Professor Thompson is super funny. His stories were entertaining and made the class interesting. The tests are hard and opinion-based. Can't really miss class because they're based on the stories he tells during his lectures. Offers a lot of extra credit, which helps boosts your grade up if you do poorly on the exams.
The exams are basically his opinions. I wrote notes from every lecture and notes from the textbook and still did poorly on the exams. The hw is easy. If you ask for help, he'll kind of help but it's mostly him telling you that you're not prepared for college (which I think is rude to tell someone. Can't judge someone based off his class alone)
Not only is he extremely rude but his tests are nearly impossible. You are better off not even studying and only guessing, everyone I know who studied did worst then those who just guessed.
This is honestly the easiest class I have ever taken. The tests are alarmingly easy. Just get in the mindset that he has and you will know the answers. I never had to use the textbook or study for an exam.
His exams are very tough but you get to bring your notes. Do not miss any lectures and make sure to write down everything he says. His exams are not based strictly out of the text book but on his real life illustrations of the material. Do all of the homework there is extra credit involved.
The worst professor you will ever have.
Gives clear expectations & guidelines for homework, so pay attention because he won't give a free pass. There is enough to extra credit to fail an exam & still get an A. Listen in lecture, because the exams are on what he says. You can have notes dusing exams, always do the exhibits in the chapter. I think he was a good professor.
He gives a lot of extra credit, so even if you get C's on your exams, there is still opportunity to get an A in the class. I never got and A on an exam and I'm getting an A in the class right now. He's very strict with deadlines and gives no leniency, so make sure you turn everything in on time. He allows you to use your notes on the exams.
Great teacher who understands the subject. Don't skip class as the lectures are everything on the exams. Plenty of extra credit which makes up for exam toughness.
Make sure you take AMAZING times 10 notes. Or remember all his lectures or record them. Tests are INSANE hard. But he also offers up to 30% extra credit meaning even if you get a 50% in the class you'll end up with a B. Amazing teacher still. Even though slightly hard headed and opinionated.
This is more of a law school/ethic based class than a management class. Thompson teaches you how to think and present a case like a lawyer, breaking apart a case step by step. Interesting but probably not everyone's cup of tea. He can be hot headed and opinionated as well. Don't expect to get any management advice out of this class.
He is the worst teacher you will ever take. He honestly doesn't care about anything, his lectures are not teaching you anything, you can pretty much stay home and read the book since he goes over the book anyways. And then he will criticize the book? Worst business teacher ever.
He's a typical old self righteous teacher. He thinks he's gods gift to the earth and is super demeaning and arrogant. I'm going to pass his class but not with any help on his part. He should probably just call it quits and retire. He thinks he is so smart and witty and in reality he's just rude and outdated
He's not as bad as everyone says. They must be failing. If you go to every class, takes notes, and take the highlighted points in the book and fill your notes with his class lectures and the book definitions theres almost no way you can do bad on his tests. Yes, the questions are confusing but if you know the material and know how he thinks ur good
The worst professor at UIC! Gives out way to many assignments as if you only have his class to worry about. He hands out mindless extra credit that can be very difficult to understand. Went to his office one day to see if he could explain the extra credit to me, he didn't even know how to do it! Told me he just uses the answer key.
Professor Thompson goes out of his way to be unnecessarily snarky to students and is incredibly rude. While his exams are difficult and he intentionally makes them tricky, he does give a lot of extra credit. Do not take his class if you are prone to skipping or cannot handle people that are rude! He lacks compassion for his students.
His test are so hard and almost sarcastic but he lets you use notes. His lectures are mostly based on stories and the exhibits in the book. I didn't go to class, but I got other people's lecture notes and took heavy notes on the book. If you have good notes and do all the extra credit, you can get an A.
Most test questions based on what he says in class, so it is pretty crucial to attend. Quite sarcastic, but a pretty funny guy. Homework was very easy, and he offers so much extra credit that it is almost impossible to do badly in the class. Do all extra credit!!!
He is a hard professor. Notes essential. Alot of extra credit. Beware, he has a stunning mustashe. All his stories matter. Nice guy to talk too. Make sure you take good notes. You can use it for test.
Good professor. Brutally honest and can come off as an extremely rude person but as a professor, he has valuable information and insight to things. As long as you use common sense and get the hang of his thought process you will do fine. Go to class and take notes! do all extra credit!
When you first meet him, he comes off as very rude, but you will soon learn that he is a very intelligent man. His stories in class are very interesting and THEY WILL BE ON THE EXAMS SO WRITE THEM DOWN. Write down EVERY SINGLE THING he says. Almost everything he says in lecture is on the exams. DO the extra credit!!!!
Great professor with a lot of information to offer. Sure he can be "rude" but it's mostly just quick jabs at people for being late. Tests are somewhat difficult but if you go to lecture and take notes (and use a little common sense) you'll be fine. The HW is a joke as long as you know basic English, and he offers an insane amount of extra credit.
Prof comes off very rude in the beginning, but he is an okay guy! He explain material, until you understand it. There is so much extra credit, that it would be impossible for you to fail this class. Do ALL of the extra credit.
The trick to his Tests is to ask yourself what he would want you to choose. Be sure to right down ALL of the things he says. Some of his stories are questions on the exam. He gives a TON of extra credit you could average a 70 % or less on tests and still get an A in the class doing ALL of the extra credit and the homework. There is no one best way.
Very rude professor. Tries to be funny by pretending to not know what Facebook is called. Thinks he is the end all and be all of his trade. Get ready to sacrifice more time than it's worth to stand in a line that stretches all the way across University Hall to go over why you got a 0 on your homework. Avoid him.
He is an overall funny and genuine guy. He is very fair and wants you to succeed and pass the class. Do all the extra credit he offers because there's a lot. His tests are based off of what he says in class so make sure to attend class and take notes. You can use notes on his exams. The homework is easy. What you learn in the class is applicable
hes a funny guy and I dont think his class is that bad. His tests, however are hard and irrelevant to class material.
His tests: I failed each one of them. Can use your notes, but he is not seeking for a memorization of a material, he wants you to understand and implement the material. Homework: You can work in teams to do hw. (excellent). EC: you can work in the team to do EC, by completing all EC I got A in a class. 1) takes notes 2)do hw 3)do EC 4) get an A!
Don't worry if you don't do well on the exams, most ppl don't. Do the homework and stay objective to avoid getting a 0 and having to redo it again. If you don't miss any homework, you will earn 50 EC points. Additional 100 EC points is given doing the problems from the book Elements of Reasoning, find a partner to divide the work to make it easy.
This class is difficult for no reason. The tests are not comprehensive of the lecture and I usually rely on educated guesses. He has stated that if in doubt, write what he would say, not the book. You can pass this class with an A if you do all the extra credit, but you're going to hate it.
I think he's pretty funny. You have to do pretty much all the extra credit assignments to get an A, but yeah you will hate it because it's hard. Definitely answer his tests based on what he would say, some of the questions are pretty bogus. Try not to get zero's on hw because his office hour lines wrap around the floor, so get there early.
One of the best professors in the sense that he treats you like you would be treated at a job, so he doesn't leave room for error. Simply easy if you go to class and write down almost everything he says.
Spawn of the devil. Will say any cheap joke for a couple laughs-- including calling women derogatory things. That being said, tests are easy, homework is even easier, do the extra credit and you'll get an A.
Awesome teacher and funny person! I didnt have the book for almost half the class because it is expensive so i waited to buy off another student but it was well worth it. Tests are lecture based and book based so take good notes! Especially his stories during lecture! Overall everything else is common sense. Would take again in a heart beat.
All you need to do is average a 70 on all of his exams. With the extra credit, you will get an A. Just go to class his lectures are pretty funny to listen to. He's rude at times but so is everyone his age. Go to class so you can understand the way he thinks. It is a strategy essential for passing the tests. Hw is easy.
By far the most useless class I've taken at UIC. Only information that matters during his lectures are his opinion. All he wants to do is be seen as the funny prof and will put down a ton of people and groups to get a laugh. Tries to act like his class is super hard but, you will pass because they are open note exams and all of the pointless EC.
You need to do all the extra credit if you want to pass. Save your GPA and take it elsewhere.
Okay. He is the second worst professor I had at UIC. The only thing that matters in his class is his opinion. You gotta write down every word he says, even the puns and jokes. His tests are ridiculous and all opinion based, hard to know which answer is true. Goes like this: A. correct B. seems correct C. Sound good D. A and C E. all of the above
Tests are easy if you take a lot of notes, especially from lectures. Based off stories he tells so you have to attend. An absurd amount of extra credit so even if you do badly on the tests you can still get a good grade in the class. Homework is easy and you have a chance to re-do the assignments.
Didnt get a bad grade but I only learned about his opinions. Tests are ridiculous. You will only pass if you start thinking like him. IF YOU CAN TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR PLEASE DO. You will thank me. Also, you will not pass if you miss class. You have to write down EVERYTHING he says and replying on others notes will NOT help.
Enjoyed how his lectures were geared towards more real life applications rather than just memorizing facts from a book. Open note exams and almost two letter grades worth of extra credit available! Ppl kept complaining about the test difficulty but if you learn multiple choice test taking strategies you can easily logic your way through them
I'm not sure why anyone would complain about taking this class or this instructor. Everything that was taught regardless if it was Professor Thompson's opinion or from the book was material I found valuable. TAKE NOTES AND WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS! Whoever complains about this class is just lazy and mad about getting the bad grade they earned
He is one of the best teachers at UIC. He tells you what to expect on the test. Disregard anything he does not go over in class. Before the final people were worried about their grade, but there is a TON of extra credit that gets added to the end. I calculated my grade and I would have gotten an A even without the final.
You dont need the textbook unless you want to do the extra credit, which is highly encouraged you will pass the class. Tons of extra credit Exams are tricky, logic thinking is in implied. Miss class you miss a lot of materials that will be on exam. Prof is not boring. take notes. Exams are a large part of your grade. So study !
He's the worst teacher ever at UIC. I've taken two classes with him mgmt 340 and 465( compensation) and he is a terrible grader. he rarely answers emails, in mgmt 465 he would assign homework and not even give you the proper materials to complete. he have students( not me) zeros on papers because he forgot to update the syllabus. 100% avoid him
The worst professor at UIC. Avoid at all costs. Tons of extra credit is offered so you'll pass but the exams are all based on his opinion. You have to type every word he says in lecture, including his personal stories, because they will be on the test. Very rude, sexist, and preaches trickle down economics. I left most lectures feeling angry.
Overall he's a good professor. The 3 exams are horribly vague which you are required a lot of critical thinking skills, however, if you suck at it there are many extra credits to cover those up. Homework are very easy.
Not as terrible. People bashing him just want things handed to them. He makes things clear in syllabus since beginning of semester. Tests are hard but they require common sense. I got Cs & Ds in exams but still got A for the class. THERE ARE TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT. DO THEM. DONT BE LAZY. 3 exams. 1 cumulative final. Attend lectures & take notes.
He is not the greatest professor but he isn't bad either. Gives A LOT of extra credit which can earn you an A even though your test average was a C. It is an easy A if you put the effort and do all the extra credit. His test are based on his opinion but they are open note. WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAYS IN CLASS. EVERYTHING. Follow the syllabus.
Strongly opinionated professor. There is a lot of extra credit to make up for the difficulty of his exams, so most people pass. You need to buy the book in order to complete homework assignments. A lot of story telling which is not interesting and at times irrelevant.
Great lectures. Makes you look forward to the next class
If no one has said it before, Professor Thompson is an amazing professor. He has loads of experience in the business world and very knowledgeable in the area of business. He is not liked for only giving his opinion, but in all honesty his opinion is correct and makes total sense. Just pay attention to his lectures and you may learn a lot as I did.
He is an idiot. he teaches from his textbook which is nothing but his opinions. His exams have THE DUMBEST questions I have ever seen in my life. Good part is you never have to go to class and can still pass.
He has clearly not worked in the real world for a very long time. This is basically the weirdest English class you will ever take. Most of his classes he will talk about random stories from his life so no point in showing up everyday. Also, his syllabus is one of the most confusing and contradictive piece of writting i've ever seen.
By far the WORST class I've taken at UIC. Too bad it's required by the college of business. If you don't have to take this class, DO NOT TAKE IT. The class is full of busy work and useless extra credit work. He spends the lecture talking about himself, so there's no point in showing up at all. Would NOT recommend taking him.
Inconsistent and unpredictable, with delusion of righteousness Personally, I could not go to class because of how boring and full of opinion based narrative they were. Quizzes are most of the grade and they're basically a test on what's in Prof. Thompsons mind Messes up multiple times but never gives second chances Would not take again
Do your best to score as high as possible in the quizzes. Make sure to get as many extra credits as possible. I failed a few of the quizzes but ended up with an A grade, thanks to the extra credit. His classes aren't too much fun. CAUTION: This is a "pay-for-Grade" subject. You have to pay a lot for extra credit, eg packback, cengage.
He doesn't require attendance but tests are heavily based on them. I averaged a 65% on overall tests but there is a ton of extra credit. Do the work and you can get an A.
This class is easy but the professor made it excruciatingly hard. The weekly tests don't make rational sense. Even if you prepare for them by reading the chapters you always end up getting bad scores. Also, he makes the tests based on his own personal notes and not the book we had to purchase. He sucks at giving feedback, hardly answers emails.
Worse professor I've ever had. He wastes time during lectures just talking about himself. He often messes up due dates and assignments on blackboard making it hard for students. Weekly tests don't make sense at all. I started getting better scores when I answered the opposite of what I believe was the right answer. His syllabus is confusing
If you dare to choose him, I bet you come back crying and give him 0 points.
Every week, he assigns 1 chapter from his book to read and you get the weekend to do the timed quiz. Entire grade is based on weekly quizzes. Quizzes aren't too bad but answer choices can be confusing but he offers lots of easy extra credit opportunities. Just do the quizzes and extra credit assignments and you'll get an A.
All the test answers are on Quizlet. If not, look in the book and you will find them. Extra credit is also offered. He is stingy on deadlines though so don't forget to do them or you get no credit. EASY A if taken online!
I honestly have no clue what all the bad ratings are about. He does tend to give his opinion on things, but only for the sake of conversation and to offer his own perspective on things. Class isn't mandatory and assignments/tests are always easy/manageable. Would 100% take this class again.
He didn't follow the due dates on the syllabus and once he figured out how to assign the homework for the class we were a month in and had so much to do, but luckily he made it just extra credit. I started not showing up to his lectures because I could easily do what needed to be done at home. His class was confusing at first but it wasn't terribl
MGMT 541. Easiest A ever. Class was online and asynchronous due to Covid but he was always logged in on zoom and available for questions during class hours. No exams, grade was based on weekly papers, you just had to figure out what his expectations are for the papers, after that the class was a breeze.
