I didn't miss a single lecture! He writes lots of notes on the board (v. helpful) and is really funny. Very helpful when I went to visit him during office hours.

Wonderful @ teaching. Didn't make you buy the newest text (even gave pg #'s for older text) wonderful humour, a real joy to go to the class. Real helpful, but not a "bird" course. Learnt a lot and enjoyed doing it. 100% Recommend!!!

What a great professor! He was really involved in the work and explained stuff in an interesting way. I loved his class, he really knew what he was talking about and made it fun. PS the AUSSIE accent rules!

His notes on the whiteboard tend to get a little confusing but if you pay attention AS he writes it you should be ok. Good at getting the info across and keeps it light with humour every now and then.

This is definatly the prof to take this class with!! The Aussie accent and the references to drinking at the Den make class so fun! Honestly though, it's worth it, he explains everything really well, and makes it fun, plus the slideshows and movies etc. are great! Take this class with him!!

toohey is a great prof, however his notes are very disorganized and unexplanatory. his lectures are good though and you should be basing your notes off of what he says rather than what he does

His "notes" make absolutely no sense but it doesn't matter because the quizzes are on the readings. Listen (and take notes if you want to) and you will learn what you need to. Class was enjoyable and Dr. Toohey is laid back and funny.. I would definitely recommend this class with him.

Not a bad class - I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone, although the notes on the white board are pretty bad. (Also he needs to improve his tie selection.)

He's very witty. This class depends more on T.A than Prof. Notes are semi bad, take your own for the quizzes. 3 essays and quizzes, good course

Toohey he is highly intelligent and his classes are quite engaging. As for his notes on the blackboard, welcome to University ladies and gentlemen, neat blackboard writing is seen only in high school. I am glad to have been taught by him.

I think one phrase can sum up this man, "Kicks-Ass!" One of the most hilarious and intelligent profs your likely to find. He is truly a quality prof and one of the few that actually give you bang for your buck!

Toohey is my hero! He is one of the funniest guys around. I would go to his class even if I weren't in it. Stories are interesting, and the text may even be worth keeping. Work load is not bad, and can be adjusted based on your interest in the class. GREAT prof.

He is truly amazing. So funny and engaging. Also very helpful if you go to talk to him in his office. On your final paper definately get it down at least a week before and he'll tell you how to change it exactly.

I was very intimidated to take the 400level class, considering I had no experience or interest whatsoever in GRST. I basically took it because of his ratings here. Let me say this: BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE. We only had to write 2 papers for his class. He genuinely cares about his students. He is Australian & has an AMAZING sense of humor.

Best prof at the university hands down. His charm and wit goes a long way in helping you enjoy Roman literature. I recommend!

Extremely fair, understanding and helpful. Even when the material gets dry, Toohey presents it with such verve that class is thoroughly enjoyable. As long as you communicate, he makes an effort to communicate back. One of the best profs I have had throughout my university experience.

Peter is friendly, welcoming and genuinely cares about his students and job (tells students to send in essay as many times as they'd like for edits because it's his job!! Fantastic sense of humor and embrace for technology (e-mails are replied within 10-20 minutes). I didn't buy any readings, just attended lectures and got an A. Awesome Aussie :-)

Dr.Toohey is fantastic! He is so charismatic and you can tell he loves to teach. It was by far one of the best classes I've taken at U of C. He is always there to help out especially with essays. I highly recommend you take any class with Dr.Toohey!

Peter Toohey is easily one of the best profs at the university! He's so understanding and he never fails to help any of the students. Attendance is mandatory because he doesn't use blackboard. Best decision I've ever made!

Take this class. Now. I LOVED Dr. Toohey, by far my favourite prof ever. I had no clue what this class was when I signed up, not prior GRST knowledge, and got an A+. His quizzes are so easy, and he goes through your essay with you prior to handing it in! He's also absolutely hilarious. If I could take his class again, I would!!!

Best prof ever. He is really engaging and takes what could be a terrible dull class and made it the best part of my day. He is really lenient with due dates and understands that many people take his class as an option and aren't used to writing papers. If you show up to class its an easy pass and if you do the readings as well you should get an A.

I honestly enjoyed attending lecture. A class that I otherwise would have had little interest in became my favorite of the year, and it was all due to Toohey's amazing instruction. Extremely fair quizzes and I also found him hilarious. Highly recommend!

I was really nervous about taking a 400 level class (had never done a GRST course before) but it was definitely the best decision I made this semester. Professor Toohey is hands down the best GRST prof in all of UofC. His classes are amazingly easy, it would be impossible to get below a B I'm sure (I've only gotten A's and A+) The papers are easier than they look, he is a very fair marker and makes sure you know everything you need to know. Do the readings but I just skim through them.

Dr. Toohey is incredible. He is the only prof I have ever had that genuinely cares about his students. He is an extremely fair marker, gives extensions if necessary, and will always make time to see you if you have questions or want him to look over your paper. He makes the course interesting, and I will plan my schedules around his classes!

probably the best prof Ive had, he is super understanding and willing to give extensions if you ask. He is funny and genuinely cares about people. His quizzes are extremely easy as long as you read the sources and know basic facts about them. no final exam, just one 1000 word essay and one 2000 word. id take a class with him again

Toohey is a great prof and the papers at first can seem daunting but if you email him and go to his office hours and ask him for help, you will do amazing. He gives out extensions and is funny lecturer. can find all the books online, so dont buy them all!

Professor Toohey is one of the best professors I have had at U of C. Kind and caring, he will help you as much as you want on any of your papers. He is a fair grader and relatively easy if you know how to write a basic paper. His lectures are interesting and worth going to since he is hilarious. Would definitely recommend!

dont let the essays scare you! you can go to his office hours and he will tell you how to write it and how to get the best possible grade. responds to e-mails quickly too! you also get to re-do the first essay if you scored poorly. textbooks are necessary only when writing essays. most of the stuff for the quiz comes from his notes and handouts! :)

I'm so glad I took this class. I love Peter. His class although a bit boring I still enjoyed, his sense of humour is quite funny, he tries to keep us engaged and he's so nice. Tbh I have a prof crush on him Only con is that he can be disorganized at times since he just writes all over the blackboard and has no powerpoints. Still though, easy class

Read over the powerpoint slides for the quizzes and you'll get at least an 80%! No final or midterm, just a short essay. Although his lectures are sometimes all over the place (and can be a bit boring at times), he is really passionate about what he teaches. Take this class with Professor Toohey if you ever get the chance to! You won't regret it!

Peter Toohey was an unreal prof. Class was a lot of fun, we was super funny and relatable. Test are so easy and he's always around to help out. Super nice guy!!!! Definitely recommend taking his class

Amazing Prof! I would take him again if I could. Class isnt necessary, but he sometimes says things youll wanna know for the test. Tests however, are super easy and could probably be aced by doing a few readings if class is missed. A real nice dude. Class is graded by a few tests and a super easy final essay can be done within an hour.

Such as easy class since your entire grade is comprised of 5-6 quizzes and a 350 word essay. The other grst 209 profs had midterms and assignments. Peter is hilarious but very quiet so you need to sit up close. He earned brownie points for figuring out how to use powerpoint. Don't buy the book though.

Dr. Toohey is a passionate and great teacher, an excellent proff to start my university career with. After GRST 209 I will for sure take another course with him. This is an easy class where there are only quizzes and a really small final paper (like 300 words long). His lectures are quite interestimg, and the textbook used was interesting as well.

Dr. Toohey is a real Australian gem. He delivers material with enthusiasm and his tests are word for word what he says in class, so you don't need to pay for the massive textbook. The final "essay" is 300 words and I think you have to be illiterate to fail it. Super easy class, super cool prof.

This class is an easy A and in addition, you get 50 minutes with a funny Australian prof who loves to teach. Quiz answers are all mentioned in class. There is no point in buying the textbook, it's way to detailed when quiz answers are surface level and explained in class. Save yourself the money. Toohey will brighten your day and boost your GPA

Awesome prof, his tests are easy, the course is not too difficult, but it is interesting and it helps having somebody as engaging and hilarious like Toohey as a prof. Hands down one of the best profs in the entire university.

Good profs at the U of C are few and far between. Thankfully, Toohey was one of the best professors I've had. He is caring and funny, and makes showing up to 9am lectures bearable. He is passionate about the ancient world. Class is fairly easy if you know how to write essays. Highly recommend you take this class with him, you won't regret it.

Amazing professor - one of the most supportive I've had. Content is interesting but his lectures make it even better. Quizzes are decent - as long as you know the plot of the stories it's usually enough to do well. For the essays, he's more than willing to read over your drafts in office hours. I don't rate profs often but he deserves it.

He is genuinely one of the best profs at U of C. He actually makes you want to attend lectures and the materials were interesting. Two papers and for each one you could send yours in and he would give you feedback within a couple hours. The tests were easy too. If you want a funny Australian prof who makes you pay attention and learn pick Toohey!

Lectures were hilarious and taught with enthusiasm. Very understanding and willing to let you make up tests if you have a good reason. Readings could be a bit confusing or long but he always explained them further in class. Worth going to at 8AM on a Monday.

Toohey was interesting. Tests were usually a tossup, with 35 questions being the easiest things marks ever and then 5 questions being utter randomness. Usually averaged out to about an A. Otherwise I never used the textbook and material was intriguing enough.

Loved going to his lectures, he makes everything easy to understand and fun to learn. Definitely would take again.

He is amazing! I had him for an 8 am and he made it not so bad. Listen and take notes in class and DO ALL THE READINGS. The tests aren't too bad. Sometimes he tests you on random little things. Just do the readings and listen in class and you'll be fine

hilarious af -- i had him for an 8am class and he actually made it worth it to wake up that early. no final exam, no papers, just 6 or so quizzes that are easy as long as you go to class and listen. don't buy the textbook, just show up and take notes. the GOAT

Toohey was probably the best professor I have ever had. He has such a captivating way of presenting himself and has excellent lectures because of it. If you miss a class you're better off getting notes from a friend because the ones on D2L are very bare bones. The quizzes are easy, even if you don't actually read anything yourself. He's excellent!

He is incredibly kind and has a great sense of humour. His lectures can be very dry through and there is a LOT of repetition. His tests are easy, but always have some weird questions with no clear answer unless you paid attention to absolutely everything he said in class. He is a very lovely man overall and I enjoyed him as a prof.

Peter Toohey made the 8am class not a dread to go to. Genuinely my favourite prof I've had to date. Would highly recommend you take any course he teaches

Peter Toohey is the sweetest professor Ive had in 4 years. Hes understanding and his 8am lectures are tough but hes got a great voice to listen to. Textbook is not needed, just take notes on what he says and the slides and you will be fine. I cannot recommend this class enough. If youre thinking about it, definitely take the class. 10/10

He's a very approachable and charismatic person. He knows a lot about the field he is teaching and understands that it can be boring sometimes but figures out ways to somehow make it interesting through his storytelling. His exams are very easy if you listen to his lectures, and he is very caring and accessible if ever you have a question/ problem.

Literally just go to every class and write down what he says. His tests were very fair and he is actually really funny I found myself laughing at his jokes. He really tries his best to make it engaging and is aware that the material can be dry. Honestly I recommend this class to everyone Peter is awesome

Dr. Toohey really cares about his students and is super accommodating if you can't quite make a deadline. The lectures can get a lil bit repetitive but he makes up for it with his sense of humor. He also posts his lecture notes on D2L so if you miss a class you'll be fine. :)

This class was great, 100% recommend for al the Percy Jackson lovers out there. The prof was great, but get ready to attend every single lecture, write detailed notes, and put a decent amount of time studying for his quizzes.

Toohey was by far my favourite prof that semester. His lectures might have been at 8 am but believe me, you don't even notice half the time because Peter is so funny, time flies in his class. Pay attention in class, pretty much everything said in the lecture will make an appearance on the test, more so than textbook content.

Dr. Toohey is an absolute delight, he is very responsive and gives great feedback. He makes lots of jokes and listening to his lectures is actually fun! If you're a good writer you'll pass with flying colours!

Dr Toohey is the best professor I ever had in university. His lectures are so so good; he's an extremely great orator. I never had to read any of the texts, because he mentioned everything that would be on the exam. My only issue is if you don't go to lecture, ya better get to reading - his slides are miserable.

Favourite prof I've ever had in uni! His lectures are really entertaining and he's very passionate about the material. He cares a lot about his students and will respond to emails very fast. Professor Toohey is an amazing professor! He cares a lot about making sure his students are keeping up with the content and understanding everything, and he was so helpful with all of the difficulties of remote learning. His lectures are funny, even when prerecorded, and is overall a great professor. Definitely recommend this course with him.

I love Professor Toohey! He is very kind and super funny. Though his class had a lot of papers they were well spaced out and marked fairly. I would not say that his class was an easy A, but the A is very achievable.

Toohey is a great prof, which truly cares about his student. I was so happy to take class with him! 400 level course's essays were graded little tougher; but for 355, he graded them very kindly. Also, I asked him for extra time due to personal situation for last essay, he understood my circumstances and be generous. Thanks!

Extremely caring and understanding professor. Essay topics are at times vague but as long as you have a basic understanding of how to elaborate and do your own research it is easy to understand. I found him to be a very fair marker, he just wants to see students engage with the material.

Dr. Toohey's assignment guidelines are not the clearest, but I found going to office hours was helpful. I found the class to be super easy because 3/5 assignments were compare and contrast between a movie and a text. I found his adaptation to online learning about as good as any other professor as he doesn't extend his lectures and posts on time.

I really enjoyed Dr. Toohey's lectures. Marks were based on 5 assignments: 3 reports, 2 essays. The reports were short (300 words) and he provided most, if not all, the information you needed in the lecture for your essays. Assignments definitely took some work; not something you can hash out well in a day, but certainly do-able!

Professor Toohey is wonderful and his lectures really made my day, especially during a stressful semester. The course contains 5 assignments that aren't too bad, the instructions are a little bit vague, but if you email him he replies pretty quickly and provides more info. He will also read your reports and provides feedback before handing it in.

Dr. Toohey has earned his place among my favourite professors. His lectures are filled with intelligent humour and can be very entertaining if youre engaged! His assignments are well organized and he cares about what you think. Hes also very flexible and understanding.

Professor Toohey has been absolutely amazing for this past semester. He truly understands the struggles of learning an (ancient) language online, and he's been super accommodating and caring throughout this transition to in person. Class itself is difficult but he's great about extensions and truly supports his students.

Great guy and I enjoyed his lectures. The class is not hard, but his assignments can be confusing because of his feedback and be contradictory compared to other students. The summary of what to do for assignments seems simple until you get feedback and he himself contradicts his words. Over all great guy, just do assignments with care!

Dr. Toohey is a very caring professor who wants to see his students succeed. There are five assignments that aren't too difficult, but the TA's mark pretty hard. He is always willing to go over your assignments before you submit them and answers emails very quickly. Overall, great prof and would highly recommend!

This man is an angel. Great class for people who can write decently bc there are 5 writing assignments (2 essays, 3 350 word assignments) that are marked fair and decently easy. I found Dr Toohey's lectures to be very interesting and his sense of humour is hilarious. His class is composed of three reports and two essays. He marks very fairly but I found the essay topics to be very narrow making them difficult to write. Despite that, I would definitely recommend taking a class with him!

209 was pretty chill; the entire course was graded based on three essays. the lectures were pretty boring. it was just Toohey standing up there talking quietly; nothing special or engaging. however, the TAs are very inconsistent with their feedback and that was really annoying. aside from that the class was really easy and def a GPA booster.

Dr. Toohey was hilarious during lectures, explained everything so well, and was a super easy marker! He even gave us a map quiz about the Mediterranean for extra credit! Make sure to attend lectures, and try to read the novels ahead of time! Overall, super easy class and interesting!

Dr. Toohey is awesome. Despite the 8am MWF schedule, I went to every class because he's hilarious and makes Greek mythology interesting. Fair warning: essays and reports are graded somewhat subjectively, with emphasis on specific ideas over writing quality. An A- is easily attainable for most, but earning an A takes a lot of effort.
