Very, very good prof. Lots of reading and exams are a little tough...but the interesting discussions make it totally worth it!
i love pft...i've had him for four classes and he is definately my favorite prof at ou. once you figure out what he expects in his writing assignments you'll be all set. way cool guy :)
hes great! always ansers your questions and makes sure you understand. i've taken 2 of his classes, I plan on taking another.

Very good professor. Good class discussions, very clear and helpful. Glad to take him for my first PolySci class.
horrible class, no direction, no facts, professor is unclear and very very difficult. assigns obscene amounts of reading.
I would recommend this professor to anyone. He does much more than just lecture. He uses hands-on approaches that make it much easier to learn and understand the topics being discussed.
HE is a verry nice guy. His tests are all essays but he gives a study guid on what is going to be on the tests and there are no surprises. He is my favorite political Science teacher:)
GREAT teacher!!!!
Best teacher I've ever had at OU. RUN and sign up for one of his classes, it'll be different from any class you've ever had in college.
How could anyone give this guy a bad review? Must be stupid people who don't like to do much thinking or don't like to learn. He's the Coolest prof on campus by far! I wish he taught every PS class at OU, I'd switch majors!!!!
Trumbore is awsome. hes my favorite teacher at OU. Always nice, always intrested in what your thinking, very cool.
Awesome professor. Best in the department. Why don't they take away all the good classes Lees gets to teach and give them to Trumbore?
Good class, not too hard, not too easy, one of the better profs in the department.
Trumbore is the man, plain and simple.
Uses power point and gives the notes to the students.
I don't know about this guy being the man. He is o.k.. He likes you to do a lot of writing. If you are not into writing a lot don't take his class. Oh yea, he is another O.U. liberal, damn are there any republicans in this school?
OU's best professor by far. If you aren't absolutley in love with the man by the end of the semester, there is something wrong with you.
This professor is awsome, highly recommended
This guy knows his stuff! He's really nice and helpful. The simulation he designes is so much fun. You get to take part in a real "crisis".
I luv this teacher. This is my 3rd class with him. You have to write like 4 papers, and u have a mid-term and a final. If you study you'll be fine. He gives you study guides for the tests, but he talks all the way untill the last second of class. But I recommed him anyway.
Very good prof. Would definitely recommend him. Powerpoint notes are online so you can print them off and take notes on them. Gives you a break halfway through, and wants to know student opinion. Fun simulation at the end. Read the two books from the beginning-you'll need it for the exams.
Trumbore's the greatest, if you have the opportunity to take a class with him don't pass it up, he is the best prof I've ever had, and it will be the best class you take
Sweet class, awesome teacher. Take anything he does.
It was somewhat hard if you do not ahve a good background on foreign policy. However, he is a good prof and is helpful to students. I just didn't like how the 2 exams decide if you passed the class or not.
Trumbore teaches at his own knowledge level. If you don't know much about foreign policies or affairs you will be lost. You can still get a B if you try hard, but the class will be very tedious for you. He's a cool guy, and he knows a lot, but he's not the best TEACHer.
Excellent teacher, great class. You'll learn a lot! You would have to be REALLY stupid to not at least get a B. Everything is from the book or from PowerPoint notes, which he GIVES you. The tests come almost completely from the study guides. It could only be easier to do well if he gave you the answers as well.
Of course Trumbore is foxy. If you're bad enough at grasping foreign policy to think this class is hard, you shouldn't be taking classes on foreign policy. Take any class he gives.
Teach well
The class was interesting and he was able to give insight on current events that applied to the class everry week. He was a bit pretentious, and slow to grade assignments, but a fair grader and tried to make the class interesting by not doing all lecture, you get to play card games and other interesting things to help you understand the subject.
He doesn't teach the class, he expects you to know the material and then just talks about it. Your grade is based on three tests and two assignments, and he refuses to reason with you on your grade. As a person, yeah he might be nice, but as a professor, I would never take another class with him, nor would I recommend him to anyone.
I must agree,Professor Trumbore seems nice on the surface, but he has problems with keeping the class up-to-date with the syllabus. And, he isn't very clear about what's expected on his vague-and-confusing test questions - they're tricky! The written papers aren't any better - one isn't even graded! I don't recommend him - even tho I got an A!!!
Very engaging and charismatic, however, not particularly accessible if you need help on anything.
Got a 3.4 in the class but had to work ass off to get it. Never did better than 85% on exams (were only 3) and it was considered good. The exams aren't curved, but you can make up for it with the papers (none too difficult). Was lost because we talked about things I knew nothing about. Don't take class for good grade but to learn about the subject
Very interesting class, good professor who keeps you interested.Tough grader. Way too much reading!Do not take this class if you are working full time and going to school full time. Also do not take this class if you do not want to get up in front of everyone and give presentation over readings.Overall good class which challenges your criticalthink.
Great teacher. Lectures were boring but he really knew what he was talking about.
The class was kind of hard, and the lectures were long and somewhat boring. The tests were really difficult and weren't curved.
The worst Professor ever!!!!
Relatively cocky and can be somewhat rude. He loves political science and goes ON and ON and ON. Exams are relatively difficult... I never got higher than a 75%. His presentations only really brush the surface of what he will ask on exams. His questions really make you think for the answer. My worst complaint is his cockiness.
Fuzzy minded. He's a bright guy who for some reason sports tremendous gaps in relatively basic knowledge: he didn't know the population of the United States, and guessed 30 million when pressed on the issue (there's 300 million for the record.) He's fine for 100 level classes, but you should generally avoid him for 300s and 400s. SOB gave me a 3.3
Probably the best prof I had at OU, and poli sci isn't even my major. Very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Made complex issues clearer, great use of tech. I had him for Issues in World Politics and Human Rights. The essays and really hard but if you read the material and come to class you'll have a much better chance of doing well.
If you don't know much about foreign policy/politics do not take this class. Take at least 3 PS classes before this one. It was a LOT of reading but I learned alot. He was a little cocky but the class had some great discussipns. I was able to see how greatly peoples political views differ in our class (republican vs democrat & liberal v conservativ
makes you think and learn but then again that is what we are in college for great for issues in world politics, nations simulation is really sweet i would recommend to anyone who has a slight interest in world politics because he will make you more intersted
I loved this class. Trumbore's a great professor, and he's always willing to help out during office hours. Be sure to study the book before the tests - they're tricky.
Class is mandatory so make sure you go. He tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible and he does a great job teaching the class. No tests just a few essays, two or three that are short, and one long final. He is willing to help outside of class and you get a great grade as long as you're willing to participate and pay attention.
Lectures were fun, interesting, and informative. Exams were based on powerpoint slides that he made available on Moodle. I had no prior political science background but I enjoyed this class very much.
awesome teacher. tests were off power points, which he posted on moodle, so you didn't HAVE to go to class if you didn't care about losing attendance points. i went anyway because his lectures were really interesting. loooved the nations simulation game. it was my favorite part of class.
Tests are not based off of lecture material. The worst political science professor at Oakland University. Expect to fail!!!
Do not take this class if you are not a Political Science wizz! I only passed this class because i got a tutor, he wasn't helpful at all. His tests are not based on the powerpoints themselves, I memorized each one and still managed to fail the test with flying colors. Do not take if you are not an poli sci expert!
HE IS VERY ONE SIDED, BUT HE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THE ONE SIDE HE IS TALKING ABOUT. THE CLASS IS INTERESTING AND BORING IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE DAY.HE IS A NICE GUY BUT HIS TEST ARE A BIT CHALLENGING I RECCOMEND STUDY GROUPS :)
Smart, enthusiastic, actually seems to enjoy his subject matter and going to work every day
Fun class driven by discussions not lectures. Used many films to supplement the readings. The guy can change your world.
Knows what he's talking about and is a wealth of info. Is very open and has interesting discussions in class. However there is a TON of reading, almost grad level. would not suggest if you dont have the time. other than that he's a great professor.
This professor was def the most difficult Ive had at OU. We discussed one topic for six weeks in, and weve yet to answer his question. A lot of work, expected the class to be more current events in the world, rather than boring readings that are unnecessary.
Reading is well above Grad Level. Lectures till the last minute. Leaves all questions posed open ended. Def would not take another class with him.
This was not the class I expected. There's a lot of heady readings; it's more political philosophy than anything, and lectures run all the way to the end. Make sure you show up for class.
Silly small little man that wears bow ties and can kinda be mean sometimes.
This guy is so egotistical and can't get over himself that he forgets the true meaning behind teaching. Don't take me wrong, the class discussions were interesting but he wears the fact that he is a Phd on his sleeve. Don't even get me started on grading, be forewarned! Requires an overly excessive amount of reading!
This class is was difficult for me. I had no prior background knowledge about world politics. He lectures everyday and it was hard for me to stay awake because they were boring. The tests were hard for me but the papers weren't all that bad. I'd say the Nations simulation was the only fun/entertaining thing about this class.
Interesting professor. Very funny and tries to engage everyone, but has very plain and boring lectures. He uses slides that he makes available on Moodle, but he just talks for the whole hour. If you are interested in Political Science, he is your guy to learn from, but if you're just looking for simple credit from a gen ed you may want to stay away
This class depends on your goal. If you are simply interested in learning, take it. If a high grade is your concern, be forewarned. Prof. Trumbore is philosophically opposed to giving 4.0's. Politically, he's somewhere to the left of Pol Pot and you would do well to tamp down your politics. While I'll likely get a 3.3 (not happy), I learned a ton.
International Negotiation class in winter 2012. Great professor, lots of reading. You will learn from this guy. It is possible to get a good grade, but you will work for it. No place for slackers in Trumbore's classes. He has high standards and clearly intends to maintain them. I am proud to have done well in his course.
One of the best professors at OU. It is true that his classes are not blow offs and you actually have to read something. Every lecture is engaging and he is a wealth of knowledge. Even if you don't do any reading, you will learn so much just from the lectures. Absolutely recommend this class/professor if you have prior interest in the subject.
One of the best professors I have ever had, and his overwhelming knowledge on all things political science is extremely inspiring. His classes are pretty writing intensive and he expects a lot out of his students, so don't expect a blow-off. If you feel like learning and gaining new perspectives on the world, take Trumbore.
Be prepared to read, read, read. Course material is intense, but interesting. No tests, but six short essays and one long paper. A brilliant man, with an encyclopedic knowledge of political science, who wants his students to succeed. Be prepared for his illegible handwriting, however. I'd take his course(s) again.
We didn't use a textbook- but he is amazing and super friendly!
I took Profeesor Trumbore for Moel UN. He was an excellent professor and was very clear and precise on what was needed in order to do well in the class. This class requires that you attend a UN conference where you compete. With Prof. Trumbore's guidance we received 1st place at this years conference. Take this professor if you can
One of my favorite professor's so far. I took several classes with him. His 300 level classes are better than 114.
Great teacher, talk to him and bring up topics in class for discussion if you don't understand - lots of reading. Loved this class. He has a ton of knowledge on both film and political science. He made the topics interesting and understandable.
He uses a lot of powerpoint slides and is always ready to answer your questions. Pretty easy going guy who usually falls behind in terms of the syllabus. The tests are usually straight forward and pretty easy as long as you follow the lectures and read the book.
Wish I could type more here, but-- I went into this class not having a great theoretical understanding of politics and not being very interested in it either-- I decided I would try it and I ended up loving . I'm glad we tackled harder material despite having little background, he did a great job making the material approachable and fun. +Bowties!
Professor Trumbore is very good at elaborating on the materials in his lectures and he is readily available for assistance. Make sure that you come to every class! His tests are primarily based upon lecture notes with some usage of the book. I did not utilize the textbook the way I should have and I got a B+ where I should have gotten an A-.
Professor Trumbore was grea. He lectures to slides which he puts online at the beginning of the semester, which was helpful. He gives you enough time on the papers and he let's you have a couple of extra credit opportunities by going to events/lectures around campus. Not the most fascinating subject but he knows his stuff. I'd take him again!
Trumbore knows what he's talking about when it comes to terrorism. I just wish the class was structured better. No offense to the other students but I don't care what they think and that's pretty much every class, open discussion. Get ready to read is an understatement. It's a tough class but worth it.
The material was interesting and though the lectures were long, Trumbore is good at engaging you. Only a midterm, final, and 2 or 3 essays. Even though I'm not a PS major, I learned a lot in the class and enjoyed the discussions.
The worse teacher ever, he is not an academic teacher. if you are a foreign student, don't take this class with this teacher because he doen't like foreign students. You will not know what does he want, and whatever you write, you will get (C ).
Peter is very educated & knows a lot about politics. He is also always willing to learn, nice & very humble. I would recommend this class to anyone! Remember to at least read all the vocab from the text, sometimes he throws in a few questions from the book that definitely wasn't on the slides. Multiple extra credit opportunities.
Lectures were fantastic! I really enjoyed this class and solidified my interest in politics. Prof T is very well-read and passionate and it shows in his class. I never felt too stressed about the workload. If you take notes and do minimal reading, you'll definitely pass. A great professor but an even better guy and that's saying a lot!
I'd call him whimsical. Got me interested in Poli Sci, he also apparently teaches a class on terrorism. Explains material well.
This class I took for my IR minor and I was expecting to breeze through it. It was not difficult but I ended up getting more involved than I thought! SOOOOO much fun. We do a nations simulation that really helps boost participation grade and bring the class together. Lecture heavy but not boring. Assignments were short and interesting. Great Prof!!
If you can't make it to class make sure you email beforehand and he won't count it against you. Moves SUPER fast, recommend taking notes via laptop. Takes FOREVER to give papers/tests back. Doesn't post grades on Moodle. 3 Exams, all multiple choice. If you think you're good at multiple choice, you're wrong. VERY HARD tests.
Interesting lectures, and Nations game was so much fun! Tests very difficult, but you should do okay if you study hard!
By far one of the best professors I have had at OU. This class is more of a discussion based class where you discuss subtopics within the broad topic for that week. He really gives a lot of academic freedom when it comes to your papers for this class. Definitely increases your interest in the subject. Make sure you go to class.
AWFUL. This class has a larger work load than my 3 other courses combined. Expect to read 200+ pages a week, on top of discussions due about the readings, along with extra projects and papers each week.
Trumbore is by far, my favorite prof at OU. He structures his classes based on readings assigned the week before. Each class is a lecture/class discussion. Thank God, there are no exams--you're just graded on papers. Every week I looked forward to the engaging and thought-provoking discussions. Do yourself a favor. Take him.
In all honesty, he really isn't a bad professor by any means. He is really nice and will help you out. However, this class specifically is very challenging and isn't meant for everyone. His writing assignments require at least 5 pages and are due within a week. Expect lots of reading as well.
By far the best professor I've had at OU, Professor Trumbore is truly passionate about what he teaches and i would take his class again if i could. Loved learning in it but get ready to read many readings and write!
Do yourself a favor and don't take this guy. He said at the beginning of the semester that attendance isn't mandatory then complains the rest of the semester as to why people stop showing up. His lectures never related to the lesson and usually rambles. There's five assignments essays which are the main part of the final grade.
Prof Trumbore was a great professor. He is always available to help students and is passionate about the material. There are 2 film essays and three take-home papers, no exams. The class was pretty interesting considering you learn about a lot of current international affairs. It is by far not an easy class but if you put in the effort it's great!
