He's a great and funny professsor, you would learn alot from him.
Sooooo funny and informative!
He's soo funny, and really explains difficult concepts very well. Great teacher! :)
Such a nice guy. Take him, you won't be sorry!!
he's a really great professor. he makes learning fun.
corny but good teacher
Profesor Tuckel is the most experienced and informative professors of Sociology at Hunter College. His easy to learn methods and step by step instructions encourages anyone interested in pursuing a career in Sociology. I highly recommend him as a professor. Not to mention, he has a sense of humor.
A very experienced professor, Tuckel will make sure that all of his sudents understand the cirriculum. His corky humor makes him adorable, while bringing life to the dull subject of Graduate Statistics. I look forward to next semester.More Hunter professors should be like him
Excellent Professor! I was not looking forward to taking stats because I didnt anticipate doing well, However Professor Tuckel makes the class seem logical and alot pretty simple. He is the best professor I ever had, and there should be more like him. He is caring, smart and funny. Take tuckel!!!!
I cant wait to take him for Research methods! This man makes learning Stats easy and enjoyable!! Take this class!
He has made both stat and research methods easy but both classes require work. The mid-term for stat was open book but the test wasn't easy. The mid-term for r.m. was mostly based on the lectures and his notes. Don't miss his lectures, they really do help you understand the material.
I had both stat classes w/ Tuckel & he is fantastic. Makes statistics logical (can you belive that?) & explains applications in social research settings. + has real dry sense of humor (seems to go above students' heads). Till I read these ratings, didn't know he taught Res Meth - I might take that course again!
Took him twice b/c he was just an amazing prof.lectures are clear, fair grader! He'll give students a chance totake the midterm over if they fall below theclass avg. StatsMidterm=open book,he hates having his students memorize formulas and in R.M.he will give u all that u need to know for the exam.Don't miss class,THINK!TAKE TUCKLE!U won't regret it
He is very clear and lively, however he is extremely disrespectful and arrogant. You can't question or challenge him or he gets angry and defensive. He talks down to students, and treats us like children. He says politics don't have a place in his class. If you are an independent thinker who wants to be taken seriously, you might hate him.
to the person underneath-are you sure you're talking about tuckel?cos i didnt see any of those characteristics at all. this professor was great, he made the subject matter interesting and has a great sense of humor(sarcastic mostly) tests were kinda tricky but besides that i loved going to class, he always made it interesting
Don't let the good write-ups fool you, this guy is a kook. He treats students like kids, spending more time telling people to look at him than teaching. His tests are INSANE. He gives no advice on what to study for, and each test covers over a hundred pages of material in about 10 questions--and studying definitions doesn't help. BEWARE!!!
Funny professor that is fair and is very objective in his grading. Midterm and final, know the terms in the book and you'll do great.
The course is boring. Tuckle is... strange. And not really in a good way. You have to raise your hand to say anything. Even a slightly humorous side comment. And if you aren't looking at him while he's talking, watch out. I would have fallen asleep a lot in class if he didn't fluxuate his voice in such strange ways all the time.
he is a great professor. funny and quirky with a great personality. if u know the terms in the textbook you will do just fine
This professor doesn't give back your work to you so therefore you don't know how well or how poorly you're doing in the class. He's also a little standoffish.
He Tries to make class interesting. Even though he doesn't take attendance, he'll know if u don't show up to his class. His reviews are not helpful. Read the text on your own and take notes from the text if you want to do well on his exams. Don't EVER go late to his class. If you do poorly on his exams, he'll give u a chance to improve your grade.
The only thing I don't like about him is that he doesn't return any work back so you don't know where you stand throughout the whole class. However I think he is entertaining and tryies to make the class as interesting as possible. I recommend taking him.
okay i do agree with some of these comments, that he was a little weird, he was so hung up if someone wasnt paying attention to him, but we pay for the course. I remember he made us put our name on the back of the test, so he wouldnt be biased which was a little weird. If your a professional then you would grade tests without favoritism.
hes scary.. i tried to be nice to him and he made me feel like an idiot.. he talks to us like we are stupid 4 year olds just because we go to Hunter-- sorry its not Harvard or Yale.. His voice is so loud and obnoxious. I thought he was okay until he was rude to me. the tests are unfair and although i studied for hours, i did poorly.
class is pretty easy but this guy treats his students like they are in pre school. he is disrespectful and his midterm seemed as if he wanted us to fail. when someone walks in late he stops talking until they sit down which is annoying. if you can deal with a rude and disrespectful prof. than this class is for you.
He is very strict and he likes students to come to class on time. He also wants students to pay attention to him. He gives two research assignments and a midterm and final. He doesn't give back your work so it's hard to know if you're doing well. The only way you can talk to him is during his office hours and he doesn't respond to e-mails.
All I have to say is do not show up late to his class. You will be the center of attention. He literally stops whatever he was doing and waits for you to sit down. The class is boring, too. All these useless assignments.
Nice Professor, very respectful & fair. His test are very difficult. The class is interesting & hes funny. He stops everything when someone walks in late. He doesnt hand back any of ur work & there is just a midterm, final & 2 research projects which are fun, so you wont rly know where u stand until u get ur grade.
I am taking his class now.I think he is veru interesting and helpful.I took his test last week and it was very fair.i studied hard for his exam, but i got a good grade on the midter. If you study and read the text you will do fine. dont ever go late to class.he is very serious about attendance and paying attention. over all I think he is wounderful
really fair professor. makes what would be a really boring class interesting. annoying when it comes to paying attention but otherwise he is really good. read the textbook and dont miss his reviews.
I loved this class and Prof. T is really funny. Worked hard (at least I thought so!) and got a crummy grade B, so kinda confused!!
Organized, FAIR, makes good examples (and plenty of jokes), and practical of real life things. Basic guidelines: 1) Make sure you are never late (even 1 minute) 2) You do exactly what the professor tells you to do and try to do it by 100% 3) STARE at him at all times (he needs your attention). It's going to be harsh, if you are a struggling student
Prof. Tuckel can definitely make it on Comedy Central as a 2nd job. He's really funny, he knows how to teach, very insightful, he exemplifies what a college professor should be like overall. It's true what all these comments say as far as walking into class late. on the projects, follow EVERY instruction he gives u CAREFULLY! Highly recommended!!
Research methods with Tuckel is fun. He's really funny. In order to pass his midterm and final you really MUST read the textbook. Go to his reviews and when he says that a certain lecture is important, it really is.
Follow the directions, study and you'll do fine. He is a funny professor and has lots of teaching experience.
He is a serious professor. serious abt the data and ur hw. But he is funny . If u want to learn sth in doing research , dont hesitate to take him
Funny guy, yeah, but he drones on and on about stuff that is hardly on midterm or final. Midterm and Final are 100% on textbook readings, which he doesn't cover in class. His policy is read them all on your own at home. If this is your style, then cool. I think it's tough and a lazy approach by professor. And he yell talks. super annoying.
Professor Tuckel is a good instructor and a decent man. He takes the subject matter very seriously and really believes in the integrity of honest work and punctuality. He gives a reasonable amount of course work and is a fair grader. He does cracks jokes from time to time, but always with a straight face which is really funny. I suggest his class.
I really enjoyed his class! He is super funny, but it's true....all eyes on him or he will stop the class until you do so! I learned a lot and liked the projects. If you read the texts and studied class notes, you will do fine. I got an A by doing just that and participating too! TAKE TUCKEL!
Prof Tuckel is VERY funny. He keeps the class interesting. You def cant be late or use your phone in class because he makes a big deal about it. He doesnt teach from the textbook, so students are on their own in learning the material. Tests are tricky and hard, and you never find out what you got wrong. This prof def keeps its old school.
Great professor, keeps class interesting although he is old school with his in class rules the class was still great. I strongly recommend him
Professor Tuckel reminds me of that funny uncle at the dinner table. The one who's jokes aren't all that funny but you just can't help but to laugh with him. However, he certainly likes all eyes on him, so pay attention. The amount of work is not too much and if you read what he says from the book n notes you would do just fine. I RECOMMEND!!!!
Prof Tuckel is very experienced. He knows his subj. Disappointed a little cuz he made us read Ghost Map and rally didn't use it in the end. Exams are a bit tricky so watch out. He can be a little on the edge about lateness, so always get there on time or the whole class is forced to stop and stare at you while you take a seat.
Tuckel knows his stuff, and uses a lot of his own personal research as a part of the class. He does have some rules and as long as you listen to them you have anything to worry about. He makes the class interesting, by making you do some field work for the class. Easy class, just read the book and study for the test, and you will do great.
his exam is hard, but he is really a funny, nice guy.
Definitely can be a bit quirky, which isn't a bad thing. The email policy is the only truly frustrating quirk in terms of student support. A really good guy who truly wants students to succeed and will do what he can to ensure that. Makes corny but funny jokes. Expects students to use their brains--what an idea! Good guy and prof just quirky! :)
I like him. He keeps class fun and interesting. I am always laughing in his class. Tests are tricky. I rushed through mine and did badly. Def take ur time! But everything is straight from book and lect. As a psych major lots of thinks matched up while learning. however sometimes it was hard to break away from psych perspective for me.
Seems to know a lot and have a lot of experience. he yell talks and tells corny jokes. he hates absences and lateness. he is very condescending and seems to have a poor view of the intellectual capacity of Hunter students. has favorites.
He can be condescending and begins his lectures with statements that demean the students due to generational differences. Not helpful in answering questions nor had very inviting open office hours. Every answer given is always incorrect even though he states the same answer but with different wording. Also bought a book that was not used in class.
Tuckel is very knowledgable. I was afraid of this class, but he explains things well & I'm expecting an A. I found him approachable after a while - he seems intimating in the beginning. If you act like a college student & don't seek short-cuts, he won't have a problem with you.
definitely old school. exams are tricky and count for a lot--he doesn't look at most homework. condescending approach to students.
Took him for research methods. He called me his best student and still only gave me an A-. His tests are tough and lectures are thorough but he's still unclear about what he wants from you. High expectations. He has his pros and cons and I learned in the class but I really wouldn't take him again. Not worth it for the amount of ass-breaking I did.
Took Tuckel for Research Methods and his tests are ridiculous! He picks out the smallest details and doesn't include questions on the major issues he's lectured on. He favors male students and seems to be really "old school" concerning expectations of gender roles. Wouldn't take him again if it was avoidable. Pick a different prof if you can.
I loved having Professor Tuckel! He's very straight-forward as a person, so he may come off strict in the beginning, but he's super cool and very funny. I definitely learned a lot from him and he made the class much more interesting. There's a midterm, observational research assignment, survey assignment and a final. He fully explains everything
Awesome!
Professor. Tuckel is a very warm and friendly individual. He was great at lecturing the course and I enjoyed what I learned out of it. I thought he was extremely fair with the grading system and offered any possible way to increase our grades to do better in the course. He was great and I would love to take another course with him! He's awesome!
He is a very nice and funny professor. He will work with you as long as he sees that you are serious. There are several assignments that you must do. But, his exams are tough. You must study your lecture notes as well as your textbook info. In class, take really good notes, and include the excercises you do in class. He will use this on the exams.
I took methods with him. I thought it was incredibly boring. He had us do his research for him (he gets the credit, we don't). Also he doesn't believe in laptops or ipads (it is the 21st century, sir)
He's old school. if you expect to get a great grade without reading the book. forget about it. Know all the key terms and know what goes into constructing surveys and you'll be okay
very good prof! he understand people who do not test we'll , he helps out his students gives assignments so that the grade you receive isn't only based on the tests, the tests are very difficult and based on the textbook
he's definitely a tough grader. he's really nice/funny which makes the boring material a bit more interesting, but he only grades you on a few things and he's pretty harsh with them. also you have to read the textbook bc he barely goes over whatever's in them but the final and midterm are completely based on it.
Prof. Tuckel is very old school, he does not allow the use of electronics in his class unless you ask permission. He is a tough grader, he said it himself. There are 2 exam(midterm and final), a survey and a data collection assignment. The exams are solely based from the textbook and his lectures (tough exams). He is kind off corny but a nice guy.
He's an okay prof! Test are graded heavily, the tests are very difficult and based on the textbook.
Tuckel is great, he clarified materials and assignments but his test reviews do not exactly match the test. Because the test is mostly based on the textbook(which he barely mentions) many students found themselves with low grades. He can also be a little boring. He does however have a great passion for research and really makes you use your brain.
Old school dude. No phones or laptops allowed unless you get permission. Attendance matters he roll calls every class. Tests are sometimes tricky, he says the textbook is required but I didn't buy it, I jut paid attention on review sessions and I got an 80 on the midterm 82 on final. Requires one research project and survey
You'l learn a lot and he makes each class fun. Good natured and a joy going to his class
Prof. Tuckel is adorable, so old and wise. He's really learned how to teach over the years, but he makes you work for your grades. GO TO CLASS. Tests are lecture heavy, so take good notes. You don't really need the text book but make sure you really understand the vocab words he gives you the class before the exams. Read the Ghost Map. It comes up.
I enjoyed the class, it wasn't hard I had two big projects a simple assignment the midterm and final. never had homework. there is a lot of reading however, so definitely purchase the textbook. He is a hard grader, and the type to give you definitions on what to study and have something completely different in the exam.
He's okay, some of the comments he makes in class are a little odd and he tends to overuse the same jokes too many times... The class relies on a midterm, a final, a research project and a survey. He takes attendance daily.
Professor Tuckel grades you on the following: a HW assignment (10%), observation study (20%), make your own survey (25%), midterm (20%), and final exam (25%). Attendance is mandatory. You get marked for lateness, too. The midterm and final are 80% based on the textbook and 20% based on his lectures. He is a pretty hard grader. Would not take again.
Professor Tuckel has his quirks. He can seem dry and mean but hell warm up to you once he sees youre making an effort to understand the material. Personally, I hate that he harps on about millennial (as if we got to choose when we were born) and electronics (the times and moving and its best to move with them). Write EVERYTHING DOWN, even charts
Tough grader, does not allow the use of cellphones in his class. Not accessible outside of class. Rambles on when telling person stories.
Prof Tuckel's class felt time consuming. He does not use power points. He lectures and test strictly based on his lectures. He does not like people being late and absent. Participation is a must. He gives a project (felt pointless) and a survey project. Lectures are extremely boring.
Really funny man, research methods is a hard topic to keep everyone interested in but he really tries adamantly.
Overall a good professor. Gives a few things throughout the course of the semester and the tests arent too bad if youve read the text book. Pretty funny & definitely falls on the more traditional side of things i.e. doesnt believe in being PC.
Tuckel is a nice professor. Unsure why the ratings are so low, but he is driven and genuinely seems interested and motivated to teach his students. Classes are lecture-based, but he's an expert and even though time does pass slowly at times, that's to be expected of all classes. Tuckel makes a few jokes, and he does repeat them, but they're funny.
Such a great professor, just show up to class and pay attention to lecture materialit will def show up on the test. Do the textbook readings, you can honestly just read the chapter summaries at the end of each chapter and youll be fine. Just sparknotes the ghost map reading, this class requires effort but not anything too strenuous
Great professor , he not heavy on work or exams , he give clear explanations and is very understanding.
I really enjoyed the class. The only thing I didnt like about the class is the reading and most of the times lecture are a little bored. Overall, you learned a lot about research methods.
He is a great professor he requires you pay attention which you should. The test are based on lectures and reading.
theres just 3 assignments (a short paper, a partner project, and final project) and 3 quizzes throughout the semester. hes pretty easy if you just do the assignments and go to class youll be fine. hes funny and makes the class interesting and fun
Professor Tuckel is a great Professor if you simply follow the rules. Show up to class and turn off your phones. Majority of the grading comes from 3 quizzes and 2 projects. Fairly easy/medium difficulty and he gives clear directions. But you must show up to class most material on the quizzes comes from lecture
Professor Tuckels class was not extremely difficult. We had about 3 quizzes, mostly based on lecture & textbook material. One class research project & a short library assignment. He doesnt use slides during the lecture so its extremely important to be in class to hear it & take notes. Super nice!
This is a professor who knows his stuff and is able to impart his knowledge very well. He is very strict on class rules (lateness and phone usage) but that didn't affect how well he teaches. Funny, and understanding. Always tries to accommodate students.
Professor tuckel is one of the best professor I had throughout my semester, he is very caring and funny. At first he seems like a mean professor but to get to know him he is a gem please take him and the exams are not hard
He is a good professor. The tests are based on the readings and everything we talk about in class. It reviews aren't that great. He only gives you key terms and says study everything. Not that helpful. Gives good examples in class. Would prefer if he discussed in more detail the textbook and narrowed down the material. If you can teach yourself go
Test reviews were ambiguous. Read the chapters he assigns and dont miss class.
This professor is a no no. He grades soo harshly. Take him if you want to fail and literally mess up your GPA. He doesnt do a good job on reviews and his assignments are not clear at all especially the survey. This class was a mess.
Professor Tuckel is amazing and deserves so much credit for his teaching. He is hilarious and teaches in a refreshing, engaging way. You need to participate in his class (which is sometimes stressful) but it makes the class fly by and also makes content so memorable! You will need to attend class and read the textbook for exams.
Professor Tuckel has a true appreciation for the subject matter he is teaching and uses great examples to help personalize his lectures. 3 tests, 1 research project, 1 paper. Very nice and understanding man, tests are hard though and you need to really know the material in order to do well. Will be taking his classes again if i get the chance!!
He's hilarious and he would drop some of his jokes randomly to make us laugh and he makes the class more enjoyable. I take this class twice a week in the morning so I would come in so tired but come out more energetic because of his humor and he would talk to you if you have any concerns related to this class.
My favorite lecture this semester! Professor Tuckel's witty & entertaining! He wants you to engage in class, so participate & he appreciates it. Read the chapters-learn how to apply them > memorizing. Overall, hes very knowledgable in his work. You won't regret this class! Exams: MC, can be tricky HW: readings, occasional paper Research paper
Do not take him unless you want to lower your GPA
He does make jokes in class but when it comes to grading, he is the worst. He has a few assignments so if you do not do well on even one, you will not get a good grade
Worst Professor EVER
Professor Tuckel is a gem! He is a very knowledgeable, clever, caring, and engaged professor. Worried about taking this course online? Don't. His Research Methods class is actually perfect to take during the pandemic as Tuckel is actively guiding students to better understanding how social research methodologies are paramount in saving lives.
Professor Tuckel is a really great professor! Despite the pandemic and the difficulties of remote learning, he relates his class to current events and teaches you key concepts about research methods in sociology. Stay on top of the readings and focus on his assignments and he will grade you fairly. Make sure you chime in during his lectures too!
Professor Tuckel is an amazing educator. The class lectures are interesting and very engaging. He is very understanding and cares for his students and wants the best for them. The textbook readings are a must as well as class notes. If you have an issue of any sort just speak with him, its for the best. I highly recommend taking is class.
He's ok. If you don't pay attention in class it can get boring. Gives a lot of examples and relates the pandemic to his class. Make sure to take notes of everything he says, because it will be on the test. Participation really matters. You will not get a good grade if you stay quiet. He stretches the vowels in his words, could get annoying overtime
He's very understanding, and tries his best to be funny and gain the students attention throughout his lectures. If you pay attention, take notes, and do the readings you'll be fine. He makes time outside of class for students as well. He's very caring and understanding, one of the best teachers I've had in a while.
he's not a bad professor, we really didn't have a lot of homework. there were i think 4 exams, all were easy. as long as you skim the textbook and you participate, you'll be fine
