Hot, hot, hot!!!
Dr. Ungar is the best lecturer I've ever seen in my life. Relaxed atmophere, and a really, really interesting class.
He makes fun of other people to make himself feel better. Either that, or all the other professors and students in the anthropology department really ARE incompetent!

Pretty smarmy -- I wouldn't want to be one of his graduate students. He makes fun of them a lot.
he is really enjoyable to listen to. his tests are hard, but he is a helpful teacher. it is true that he does make fun of his collegues. it is kinda funny.
Dr.Ungar is one of the best prof. at the UofA. He's extremely intelligent and hilarious. His classes are always interesting, but his multiple choice tests are the Devil. You can get a pretty easy B, you'll really have to work for the A.
his tests are hard. his lectures are prety boring too. He claims that every lecture will be the most exciting but it is not.
Ridiculously easy class. He's a very knowledgeable professor and witty, but he can't help the stupid people in the class that force him to go so slowly. If you are an honors student: don't bother going to class, the A is the easiest you'll ever get!
For Bio. Anth. he was entertaining and very knowledgeable. Tests are a little tricky and have to work for the A, but overall a great professor! Yes, he says the lecture will be the most exciting thus far- Why does he do that?? A humerous man!
Dr. Ungar is a fun and funny professor. He jokes about others, but also himself. He just has a good sense of humor and is more honest than most people that you find in an academic setting.
He is a great teacher, and a lot of fun.
He made the class fun. If the lecture was over a boring subject he gave us warning, and still managed to make it interesting and make us laugh.
The steamiest, hottest professor I've ever had the pleasure of taking. I have a hard time keeping my desires under control while in his presence.

This guy has great stories about his experiences while doing research. If you're lucky you'll get to hear his imitations of different howler monkey species. I recommend this class even to those who disagree with macro evolution. I still enjoyed it.
A real hottie!
very interesting course...just have to keep up with all of the material.
I don't like the class because of the topics. However I love Mr. Ungar. He is so smart about the topic and he has a great passion for all of it. And you can see that he loves science when he teaches.
He kept the class sooooo interesting. I loved coming to class even thought it wasn't my favorite subject by any means. He was nice and patient, an awesome professor.
Great teacher, very helpful, passionate about the subject. Excellent influence in my college life. Highly recommend his course, even if you don't agree with the subject.
The tests were hard if you didn't study. He is so understanding and he will help you out if you're having trouble in the class. Take his class if you can. He is the epitome of what a good college professor should be. He basically only lectures though so TAKE NOTES! There are only three test!
This cat knows exactly what he is talking about. His teaching methods really works and he makes class interesting by talking about his personal adventures studying the world of Anthropology.
Dr. Ungar is the best professor I've ever had at this university. He really knows and loves what he teaches and that makes the biggest difference in the world. His tests were hard, but at the end of the class you realize how much you've learned. He's really fun, too. Take a class from him if possible. It's worth it.
dr. ungar is such an intelligent man. this class does require a lot of studying, but it's totally worth it because you learn so much from such a well-versed man. he really is one of the tops in his field and you'll realize how lucky you are to have the chance to learn from him.
He is really cool, very helpful, and just an awesome teacher all around. You can't get any better than that!
He is really cool, very helpful, and just an awesome teacher all around. You can't get any better than that!
This class and professor are great!
I think Unger is freakin awesome. No other professor will sit there and take up an entire class period going over literally 1 topic until every single person in the room understands it and make you laugh at the same time. He's the shizzy!!
I loved this class. Ungar is an awesome teacher and is very intelligent.
Lectures are boring and pointless if you've ever paid attention in your high school biology class. Great teacher though, I wouldn't hesitate to take another class from him. Very good teacher if you know nothing about the subject! He will do everything he can to make sure you understand the topics. Tests are a little difficult though, so study!
Dr. Ungar's knowledge of his subject is extensive. He builds upon the text and notes with personal examples that are extraordinary. Plus, his attitude is relaxed, positive, and funny;every lecture is fun. Class isn't hard 85% is an A and you can drop an exam. Ungar is an expert and probably one of the best professors on the subject in the nation.
every class is "the most exciting ever" interesting mostly b/c he knows his stuff and has real adventures to talk about
I love this class so much that I can't skip it. Every class is super enjoyable. It is easy to get an A if you study even a little before the class. Highly recomended!
He's really enthusiastic about what he does and gets the class interested too. He is very evolutionistic but I guess that's to be expected in an evolution class... But he doesn't force his beliefs on you- just know it for the test. He'll answer any questions you have in class. The second test is detailed so know your monkeys!
Confused lecturer, almost like he can't be bothered.Reads from prepared script.Test is unlike lecture points in that he picks very minor points to test on. Frequently makes mistakes during lecture that he will correct, but often dismissively. If your interested in this science, pick a different prof.
Dont take this class if you dont agree with evolution even a little bit. Even if it required dont. Do you really want to learn how many cc's an ape has that is supposedly your ancestor? I didnt think so
Dr. Ungar is extremely well versed in his subject, no argument there. Lectures are pretty scattered, and mostly based on the text. Not a bad class even if it's not your subject, but not a great one either.
Great teacher! One of the few classes you can go to and laugh! As long as you show up and go to the lectures and labs, you'll get an easy A. It's a lot of terms, but if you know greek and latin, no problem. And for the people complaining about how he teaches evolution, it's an anthropology class; they warn they go over evolution before you take it.
This class if very difficult. I am an A student who is struggling to get a C. He knows his stuff, but almost seems too educated to teach an intro level course. Tests are ridiculous!
Dr. Ungar is a very educated man; he knows his stuff. The class is pretty easy, I made a 92 on each test and was able to skip the final. He explains difficult material clearly and answers questions even when they are incredibly simple and he has just explained them. I <3 Dr. Ungar.
Tough class, good teacher. If you're going to take this lecture with Ungar, you better go to every lecture and take notes. No friend sharing will help this time.
i dont think he is a teacher, i think he is a man with a anthropology degree who cant do anything else. he jumps around in lectures, doesnt use the book, and with a class of 300 students it is hard to ask questions, study guides are VERY unorganized and confusing
Hilarious guy. A lot of memorization though. Ungar knows his stuff and how to periodically keep people from falling asleep. If you don't believe in evolution and the SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE can't change your mind, you'll hate this class, because creationists and science don't mix. If you study, you'll make an A. He drops the lowest grade and an 85 = A.
Great Professor, very clear explanations. He is also great to listen to, because every lecture is the greatest, most life changing lecture of your life. You may think I am joking, but alas, I am not. Highly reccomended.
An entertaining professor: cracks jokes and works to keep the class awake, but this class wasn't for me. The lectures were often drudgingly boring, there wasn't a great deal of out of class help, and some of the TAs aren't even specialized in the areas he focuses on. The tests focus on small points instead of the broad aspects he covers in lecture.
Dr. Ungar is supa cool! He is very entertaining in class and he keeps you awake. His powerpoints are very good and his lectures are awesome. I loved this class. His grading system for this class works to the students benefits. The book isn't helpful don't buy it just take notes. Take Trey Batey for this class' drill.
I'm amazed that people find his classes difficult. There are four tests and he drops the lowest grade, and they're all multiple choice (for biological anthropology, anyway). The entire class is weighted by 5%, so you only get 85% overall to get an A. If you take notes and study them, it should be no problem. Ungar is very talented.
He is quite possibly the most enthuiastic intstructor I've seen. His tests are very easy, and he drops the lowest one. 85% is the lowest needed for an A. The only drawback to the class is it's a huge lecture class so it's very impersonal and the required lab isn't always taught by someone who knows bio. anth. Though the lab is very easy. No papers!
This class is the worst EVER!!!! So hard, I made a D and I have never had a D in my whole life! On anything!!
I enjoyed his class and am glad I took it, he's a great teacher and knows his subject. He does live a bit in his own world but most teachers in the area tend to do that. I recommend to anyone to take his class. He gives 4 tests, one which he drops, and they are all essays/short answer, unlike his Intro to Biol Anth which are scantron.
Ungar is awesome! He is exceedingly brilliant and still down to earth, focused on helping students to learn everything they can about his subject. Very dedicated and hilarious. We are lucky to have him at the UA. Learn from him if you have the chance!
Omg, omg...I got to be on the beach with him...take his classes! It's worth it to stare at him.
I think I'm in love. He is absolutely the greatest, mosts gorgeous man to ever teach at the UofA in all of history. It was very difficult to actually listen and not just stare dreamily at him during class.
Great professor, lots of fun!
Dr. Ungar is the most gorgeous man I know. It is hard to focus on anything but his rugged appeal when he starts talking about primate behavior!
I have heard an unconfirmed (but extremely plausible) rumor that Johnny Depp acquired an anthro PhD, put on a safari hat, and came to teach at the UofA in the form of Peter Ungar. My only basis for doubt is how much better looking Dr. Ungar is than Johnny Depp...but still, it may be true. Take classes from this man if you can resist the attraction!
50 % of college freshmen have suicidal tendencies. Taking this course; anth 1013 is a prime example why!
I don't know how anyone could think this guy is hot- unless maybe you sit in the back row and have very bad eyes. I couldn't stand him. I found him to be very antagonistic and condescending. He made very interesting subject matter unbearable. He might know what he is talking about, but can't teach it.
This guy is terrible. His study guides are a joke and he is overall unwilling to change anything. Pompous and arrogant. I would not take him again. Skipped class just to avoid listening to his same introductory speech everyday. "Welcome students of the University....This will be the most exciting and fulfilling lecture this far." Not even.
Ungar is completely incapable of helping students learn the material. He is way to busy throwing fits about students leaving class early, or coming late. Somehow, that must be an affront to his ego, because that is the only thing he cares about. I suggest you avoid taking classes with him if at all possible, because he just doesn't care.
arrogant and egotistical- lives in his own world and has the maturity of a 5 year old
Dr. Ungar is a great teacher. He doesn't like it when students leave during class because it bothers other students who are trying to learn, and he always puts those students first. He will give you any help you need during his office hours and is very personable and funny. The people who do not like his class are the people who do not attend, read
Terrible, Absolutely terrible. I will be receiving a D because of one test question. if I would've gotten ONE more test question right, I'd have a C. But would he bump it up, even if I always attended lecture, NO!
If youre looking for an "ology" to fulfill Univ. core this is not your easy A. If you have an interest in primates and learning technical terms for our "ancestors" then again, this is not your class. Dr. Ungar has a passion for his discipline but cops out and says he has no influence on grading. No extra credit. Tests determine grade. Lab is easy.
"The people who do not like his class are the people who do not attend." WRONG. I attended every lecture, hated the class and got a bad grade. The material was somewhat interesting, but Ungar butchered it. He's immature, annoying and a bad teacher.
immature and egotistical. i would hate to be one of his graduate students
Ungar was an okay teacher. He was a little boring sometimes, but overall seemed like he knew his stuff. When he leaves for research though, be prepared... a ta will teach his lecture, and it will be terrible. I worked really hard in this class, but couldn't manage to raise my b to an a, even with the final. take trey batey for lab. he's cool.
Dr. Ungar is a very intelligent professor and confident in his knowledge of Anthropology. I emailed him many times with questions and received quick responses every time. Go to class EVERY TIME. 5 questions from each lecture are on the tests. The final was very easy. Most of the questions were from previous tests. Awesome class!!
I found him VERY flexible. He helped me get an A in lab when I should have had a B. He helped bring my grade in his class from a B to an A because he saw me EVERY class period sitting on the third row front and center. He is funny, smart, and an amazing researcher. I felt honored to be in his class, though I was just taking it for a core.
Hard to understand the lectures. Hard test questions-essay style. Be prepared to know everything he lectures about in class. Doesn't take roll, but knows if you are there. Very enthusiastic about Biological Anthro.
My favorite professor!
Oh ungar, he is very confident in his self. correcting the book at times. Although he is a very intelligent person, who has been on the front lines researching on his own.
Ungar seems to be a good teacher, but I think you have to be really interested in the material to learn much from this class. I did not like the class because it was not at all interesting for me. Don't take this class if you don't believe in evolution, it's what the whole class is about!!!
You don't need the Textbook for Biological Anthropoloy.
Good professor. You have to go to class to understand the material because some of it isn't in the book.
Classes seemed to go one forever. Rarely went for that reason and didnt like subject. Gives a review sheet that helps some, but is vague at times..never went to class and got a B so somewhat easy
Peter is confident because he knows what he's talking about. He's preeminent in his field, and comprehensibly condenses complex information. I loved the class, because it fueled the interest in anthropology he ignited in me in 1013. Yes, you need to go to every class, and yes, you need to take good notes. But this is college, people.
EXTREMELY HARD CLASS! Do not take this if it is your lab science credit! It will drop your GPA unless you are maybe a science major.
Attendance is not mandatory, but it makes a huge difference if you go. NO NEED for the book. Helpful study tip: Print off the study guides asap & take them with you to each class. It helps w/ taking notes. That way you have the notes you need, and not a bunch of of extra material to confuse you when it comes to studying.
You will rely on your lab teacher. He' s really confusing. I think its because he's so smart and he just assumes we know more than we do.
This class was impossible. Much too hard for an introductory class. The tests were very hard and I couldn't tell one answer from another- very confusing.
This class was really really interesting. Ungar is a great teacher, I learned A LOT from him, I never thought that I would really like this stuff and this class really changed my mind. The class is divided into 3 sections biology, primates and human evolution. STUDY hard, tests are hard but easy if you study & GO TO CLASS, not required but helps!!
Love him. He really knows what he's talking about and has good stories to go with the material. if you go to class and study, it's fun and not too hard.
Awesome Prof. The Best!
Good professor. Knows a lot about primates and communicated that information and interest very well. Take detailed notes in class and you should do well. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Ungar is a wonderful professor. He is passionate about his work and tells great stories. Although attendance is not mandatory, I would highly suggest going to every class. Dr. Ungar will let you know what's needed for the exam and provide the most up to date information. Exams are in essay form but can be answered with pictures graphs or tables
Ungar is an extremely knowledgable and somewhat charismatic teacher. He has high expectations but is more than willing to help those who seek out help. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but it is if you want to make a decent grade. His tests are demanding and there's a lot of detailed information to learn, but for majors it's a good class.
Dr. Ungar is a pretty amazing professor. Teaches with a passion accompanied by a lot of really cool (relevant) life stories. Best way to learn the complicated matters of evolution. Gave 3 tests which were short answer and very straight forward. If you did well, you could exempt the final.
Really detailed class on the research Dr. Ungar specifically does. Didn't realize I could ever learn that much about teeth. Easy to get the A if you went to class, discussed, and gave semi-decent presentations. Only two tests, which he graded leniently.
I did not receive the grade I wanted in this course, but professor Ungar is an amazing lecturer. I really enjoyed sitting in on his classes, and I actually wanted to show up to his lectures every morning! You will definitely learn things that are useful in the scope of anthropology if you have him as a professor!
