Any class taken with Dr.Vadasz is greatly simplified. He clearly explains all material and will help you understand. Attendance isn't required but is highly recommend. He will add life lessons or tangent lectures into his classes that enhance your understanding of engineering. Homework is heavy and complex but is made easier with notes and the book
Vadsz is a great teacher, discusses material very clearly with full background to the discussed content. Very lecture based, very informative but can also be very long as they center around deriving equations so you know where the formulas come from. Very understanding and fun to learn from, it helps he's passionate about the curriculum.
Given that he only teaches upper-level courses, class isn't easy. Exam reviews are essential because it's made very clear what you're expected to regurgitate. This man is a hero and made me really want to pass.
Great professor, cares about his students, is a very fair grader and gives out a review the class before a test that makes you extremely prepared for the test.
He is the best. He explains everything clearly and the content given in class is extremely useful for exams. I enjoyed the subject and really appreciated the fact that participation was recompensated. He made easy one of the most difficult subjects in my opinion. I would definetely have this professor again if I could.
Professor is very knowledgeable about fluid mechanics. Paying attention to the lectures will get you most of the way, but some information will go over your head and require individual study. Exams are reflective of skills developed through in-class examples. Professor offers help during exams and allows re-takes for students who perform poorly.
Dr. Vadasz is one of the best mechanical engineering professors at NAU in my opinion. He always is prepared for class. He does not read of slides. He always takes the time to teach us. He will help you when you are struggling. Material can be confusing in class but he will take the time to explain them and his lectures are entertaining.
Very good professor. The kind of professor that makes you want to retake the class.
Tests are focused heavily on lecture materials and taking as many notes as possible is vital to this course. He is a good professor though and looks out for struggling students
This is my second course taken with Dr. Vadasz. It has been a great experience just like the first. Dr. Vadasz makes sure every student understands the material and will explain it in a way you understand if you take the time to ask questions via email or office hours. 456 was a fun course, I recommend taking any elective possible with Dr. Vadasz.
He is a fantastic professor, a little hard to follow at times but wants to see you succeed in his class.
Great professor! Wished he taught all the engineering courses at NAU. Attendance is important for this class since the only lecture notes are handwritten on the whiteboard. There's homework due every class and reading the textbook is essential. Vadasz also values his students' success and will provide help/tips during exams.
Dr. Vadasz is an amazing professor. Only three tests, including a non-cumulative final, and about 16 homeworks. He cares about the students and wants to make sure you succeed so has very good test review sessions.
Dr. Vadasz is great at answering questions and working with students. The material is difficult so make use of the office hours or any help you can get. Make sure to ask plenty of questions if you're lost. The exams are very straightforward.
Professor Vadasz is definitely one of the best at this school, he clearly wants his students to pass as he provides everything you need to be successful, you just have to put in the work. There are only 2 tests and a final, but if you follow along in class, do the homework, examples, and practices that he provides, you will do well on the tests
Material is difficult but Dr. Vadasz does a great job making it relatively easy to understand. If you're ever lost, ask questions or go to his office hours. Exams are pretty straightforward so long as you pay attention to the lecture and do the work.
Professor Vadasz is a great professor and he truely cares about his students.
Amazing person and most importantly, an intelligent Professor.
He pushes you to do your best and is always open to help. Great professor.
This professor is one of the best I have ever had. The only homework that is assigned is to help you learn and there is absolutely no busy work. He is very passionate about what he teaches and will make you enjoy learning. He makes sure to teach everything that will be on the test and if you pay attention the class is an easy A.
Dr. Vadasz is one of the best instructors I have had for any course I have taken. The way he structures homework is a bit odd, but is very effective. The projects he has in most of his courses are always great and are a definite highlight of the semester. I've had 3 classes with him already, and I will sign up for any more he offers.
His lectures and his own researches are very inspirational. It encourages students to particpate in his class and learn more.
The professor's teaching style was very good, and the running notes provided for every class were very useful. The group projects, class assignments, and the discussions on important topics during exams were all beneficial. Additionally, the professor was very friendly with students and offered flexible office hours
Most of the grade on this course was based on two assignments, but for the project he would help the groups every step of the way by giving constant feedback on progress. As long as you put in the effort he does everything he can to prevent anyone from failing his class.
Best professor, I really enjoyed his course
homeworks are easy but makes the lectures easy to remember.
Dr. Vadasz is one of the best professors in the engineering department at NAU. He makes difficult topics come very easy and he makes sure you are always prepared for exams.
Dr. Vadasz is a very engaging lecturer. I enjoyed his class very much as he has a lot of real world experience and incorporates that into the lecture. The homework correlates well to the exam and I think his exams are very fair if you put time towards them.
Pay attention in lectures they will give you all the information needed He is always willing to help or answer any questions. Peter Vadasz is extremely knowledge able In his field and awesome to learn from. I would absolutely take him again!
Peter Vadasz is a very experienced professor. He is very knowledgable about fluids and can articulate the concept well. If you have the opportunity to take a class with Peter Vadasz, do not pass it up.
He respects his students and their time. He does lectures old school by writing everything on white boards and he prepares you very well for his tests and he wants everyone to get an A.
Very good professor, make my transcript rotate
very good
Professor Vadasz is an overall good professor. Sometimes, the lectures tended to go too much into derivations. This makes it hard to stay focused or pay attention. Read the textbook and you will be good.
Lectures a lot, is flexible and listens to students
Vadasz is a great professor who can make a course seem simple while still applying the key points within the subject. He does not assign much homework and is leanient when grading as well as with deadlines. Overall one of the best.
Easy grader lots of opportunities to pass however lecture notes are a bit hard to read /follow at times
Exam reviews are helpful.
He is good at making sure we are prepared for our exams. His lectures can be hard to follow, but the are very helpful. He does give a lot of homework though.
He is a good professor, just want to have a more clear criteria for exams.
He helped make a seemingly difficult subject easy and made a great project and final. The one mid term was helpful and applicable to what was learned and with it being take home I feel like a lot was learned. Despite failures within the group project experiment Vadasz was caring and allowed for us to simply address it within the report.
Vadasz is one of the better professors for the ME courses, everyone should have him at least once! He is super helpful when you have questions and really cares that his students are interested in the topics. If you are ever confused about something you just have to ask him and he makes sure you get it before you leave. 10/10 would recommend.
The professor gives good lectures and is a very knowledgeable person. He knows a lot of information and knows that information well. He can spot mistakes in students work almost instantly despite the large amount of content and gives feedback in a respectable, nonintimidating manner. Only critic is that no grade known until the end.
Awesome professor
Awesome professor unique and extraordinary teaching style
Suppppppper great professor.
The professor adeptly conveys complex concepts with clarity, engaging teaching style fosters comprehensive understanding among students effectively. The Professor is really fun & helpful to work with projects and coursework.
He is the official creator of the Vadasz number. A legendary person with bountiful knowledge. While grades may not be known until the end of the semester, you will learn a variety of topics from him!
The best professor I've ever had!
professor vadasz is a very good proffesor, he made this course interesting and has a very good teching style, i engoyed completing the progect as part of this course and he was very helpful when using his office hours.
Pr Vadasz is an amazing teacher, even if the course is really heavy and there is a lot of material to go through he manages to make it look pretty "easy" and gives a lot of advice on how to treat all kind of problems. I do think that there is a lot of homework for every class but at the same time it is also helpful to do it.
Pr Vadasz is an amazing teacher, even if the course is really heavy and there is a lot of material to go through he manages to make it look "easy" and gives a lot of advice on how to treat all kind of problems. I do think that there is a lot of homework for every class but at the same time it is also really helpful to do it.
More "oldschool" style of teaching, works great if your paying attention and taking notes.
Amazing Professor and is very fair with grading! Gives amazing reviews before the exam!
High weighted tests but tests are simple and he offers test corrections.
Great professor, definitely show up to the test reviews they help a lot for the exams.
Be ready to pay attention during class does all of his work on the whiteboard and likes to do a lot of a examples.
Professor Vadasz was a really good teacher. Even though some lectures were hard due to the dense material, he managed to find time at the end of class to always do something more fun like talking about real-life applications that he used to do in his career. He cares about the students and always asks and makes sure that everyone is on the same page
He will give you every opportunity to succeed. He is old school and has you turn in physical homework 1-2 times per week and will not post his lectures.
One of the only professors at NAU to lecture on the board instead of clicking through slides. This makes the pacing perfect in class, but there is a ton of information that is thrown at you. All in all, great professor.
He's a great professor and cares about student success. He's one of the few engineering professors that does lectures on the board instead of lecture slides.
Really good professor, cares about the students and prepares them for exams very well. Lectures can be hard due to the dense material to be covered but he finds time at the end to talk about something more fun, like world applications in his career examples.
Lectures on the board instead of clicking through slides, making the pacing perfect in class. Though there is a ton of information that is given in class, but the exams are pretty easy. All in all a great professor
Lectures are very helpful and one can do very well in his class if they listen and do what he says. Everything is straight forward and review for exams are a must if you want an A in his class. Would take his class again.
Homework is spaced out nicely so you don't get overloaded and the review sessions for exams are awesome. I would take another class with Mr. Vadasz.
Peter Vadasz is an excellent teacher, He cares a lot about how his students learn and how well they do in the class overall. His lecture style is the best I've had at NAU so far. He doesn't just read off of a lecture slide he actually does every problem and writes everything which really shows that he cares about the learning environment.
Lectures are very informational. Extra credit mostly relies on in-class participation. Tests are based off of equation set-up more than finding the correct answer.
Professor Vadasz is a very knowledgeable professor, he often answers questions by asking a question which makes the answer to your original question seem obvious. It is clear he is passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are often times quite boring and lengthy. The test review days are extremely helpful in knowing what to study for the exams.
Dr. Vadasz is a great professor for learning Thermodynamics I. This professor has very clear and easy to follow lectures. Equation sheet is allowed on exams and some homework grades are dropped at the end of the semester. Very clear syllabus and schedule that can be counted on for the semester with a few exceptions.
Vadasz leads the class through the content at a reasonable pace. His class is open to student input, and he provides real world examples to illustrate the use of the techniques taught. His lectures are entertaining with anecdotes, and he respects his students, giving opportunities for extra credit, and providing points for attempted work.
He is one of the best professors I've had so far. The homework is based on what we discussed in class and the textbook readings. There is homework very often but it is all really short. The test are also fair and comparable to homework and in class examples. Would highly recommend taking his class.
The homework is manageable, there are lots of little assignments but they are pretty easy to stay on top of. His lectures don't assume you know anything, which is great for refreshing any basics you forgot from physics or chem. He also does a lot of examples in-class, which are great if you're struggling with understanding how to approach things.
Dr. Vadasz is likely the best professor I have learned under during my time at NAU. He balances complex principles with light-hearted humor and relevant anecdotes on why the content is important and how it can be applied to the real world. Each lecture is engaging and informative, with Dr. Vadasz ensuring you understand the concepts being taught.
Dr. Vadasz takes on some of the most difficult classes in engineering and breaks them down into easy to understand lectures, with lots of in-class examples. He is also a professor that will take the time to write everything out by hand when most other professors just go through slideshows. A great professor overall that I will always recommend.
Use example problems he goes over in class to study for tests
Peter Vadasz seems very knowledgeable on the subject he teaches, and thoroughly explains the material during each lecture. He allows test corrections to help improve your test grades if you show you are willing to learn.
His lectures cater to all levels of understanding, making them perfect for revisiting the fundamentals. The assignments align closely with our class lecture and readings from the textbook. He's easily one of my favorite professors. He applies real-world applications from his own career to the class, making the sessions enjoyable.
Thermo has a reputation for being a tough and unappealing course, but Dr. Vadasz made it far more interesting than I would have expected! Go to class, do the example problems, and make sure to solve symbolically first; and you'll be good to go. Good class participation can even earn you up to an additional 10% towards your grade!
Prof. Vadasz has quickly become my favorite professor. He genuinely wants all of his student to succeed and has so much rich experience in the workforce that his teaching is refreshing. There is a good amount of homework each week but if you plan ahead it is extremely manageable and the exams reflect the homework.
Amazing professor!
Doctor Vadasz is a great professor. In order to do well in this class, you must take notes and pay attention in order to do well. He does not post lectures and lecture notes online.
Professor Vaduzs is an extremely dedicated professor. You learn everything you need to know in the class in his lectures, but there is minimal online lecture notes so pay attention in class and you will get an A. Homework is light. Exams are very similar to review sessions.
Professor Vadasz understands that the material is difficult for some students, and adapted his teaching methods to reflect this. He is extremely funny and knows how to keep the whole class engaged during all of his lectures. If it were between him and another Professor, I would 100% choose Professor Vadasz.
Vadasz is an amazing professor. He works with his students and wants everyone to pass. He is very willing to answer questions. He likes to have every assignment turned in on paper. Tests are 90% of your grade so make sure that you go to review sessions because he does help prepare you for the exam and is transparent with the contents of the exams.
All engineers has heard the horror stories of Thermodynamics, but with Dr. Peter Vadasz its a breeze. The course set up is very test heavy however his exams are very simply and he is more than willing to help you during a test. During test prep week he works a lot of book example problems and fills you in on what you should expect on the test.
Vasasz tries his best to ensure his students understand the material and takes time to thoroughly explain topics of discussion. His lectures are very important to understanding the material, especially for exams.
Great professor, has a bit of an accent. Easy to understand though. Fantastic participation system.
Most engineers hear horror stories, not with Peter! He makes thermodynamics very easy to understand, tests are very easy to take and very fair and reasonable.
He is easily the best thermodynamics teacher on campus. There is a lot of homework but the homework reflects the exams perfectly. There is a lot of in class examples that are great practice and reference for the exams. He is very humorous and sometimes goes on tangents but he lets you know when he will.
Despite the difficult material of the class, the professor made it simple to understand. I won't lie the class was hard and definitely requires that you put in extra work outside of class but Vadasz is a very understanding professor who always welcomes questions and feedback. Go to the review sessions in class before the test and you should be fine
Dr. Vadasz is a great lecturer with a more old-school style, everything handwritten on the board and not posted to canvas, along with a physical copy homework to turn in. He offers great test reviews and always offers help where students need it. I would highly recommend him for any class you can find that he teaches.
Professor Vadasz is a great professor who gives you every opportunity to succeed. He is an old school kind of guy who requires physical homework submission and does not post his lectures on canvas. However, he is always happy to help in class, after class, and during office hours.
Thermodynamics is historically a difficult course, but Professor Vadasz takes the time and energy to make sure all students understand the material. Homework reflects the Exams, which also just test your understanding of the material instead of throwing curveballs. Overall one of the best professors NAU has to offer!
I feel extremely lucky I got Professor Vadasz! He doesn't just show you a bunch of math, he helps you actually understand the content. He shows you how the content applies to real life. He also tells jokes. Overall, he is just a fun and interesting person.
Peter is a great guy as well as a great professor. He is very helpful if you are struggling on a certain topic. He believes in you to get the A so all you need is to believe in yourself.
He designed the course to help students get the A. If you just follow along with him during the course, you should be able to get an A. The tests are generally what he talks about in class, but you need to show your work or you can lose points very easily.
overall I really enjoyed this course. there were 3 exams that make up %30 percent of grade each but they are easy to get an A if you follow class. he does homework due almost every class that is a fair work load however it is not always exactly in sync with the lectures. gives good lectures and is easy to follow.
Vadasz is by far one of the best college professors I've had so far at NAU. The way he teaches the course is very easy for most students to grasp as long as you pay attention in class and do the homework's. Most of your grade is tests so don't forget to study but as long as you have a general idea of how to work the problems you will do fine.
Dr. Vadasz made it clear from the beginning that he wants his students to be successful, and this was displayed in many ways: telling us to interrupt him during lectures whenever things got confusing, stressing office hours, offering test remedial options, etc. Please let him know whenever his handwriting is illegible. That was my only issue!
Professor Vadasz has long been a teacher and his experience shows. His lectures are very long as he writes out every problem from start to finish, no power points here. Homework is assigned once at the beginning of the semester so pacing oneself is mandatory. Take notes diligently as exams follow them to the letter.
Peter was an excellent professor. He is leniant, clear, fair and caring of his students. He infuses a bit of himself into the lectures by sharing stories from his past and his interpretation of current events, which I appreciated. He also gives career advice occasionnally. Note that his exams are always easier than the homework assignments!
Prof. Vadasz does a great job making a challenging course accessible. Attend class, do the homework, and you'll likely get an A. Unstuckstudy AI was also a lifesaver for study prep - highly recommend it alongside the textbook.
Vadasz is a great professor that is very personable and passionate about his field of study. If you pay attention in class and do all required assignments you will get an A.
Dr. Vadasz gives his students every opportunity to get the grade they desire and pass the class. He doesnt make it too easy but he is a forgiving and understanding professor, I highly recommend taking him if you get the opportunity
Although attendance is not required, I would recommend attending lectures especially the lectures before the exams. He does post notes in canvas however they are easier to understand if you attend the lecture.
Professor Vadasz is a great professor and he knows his stuff. You are going to want to take notes in his lectures in order to do well in exams. He does like to throw curveballs in exams but he is very clear on what will be on the exam. So as long as you prepare well you will easily get A's on exams and that is about 90% of the grade.
If nothing else he will give you the grade that you deserve.
He did a great job teaching the class. not a hard teacher but common to have homework a good bit. my favorite thing was review day for tests because they helped a lot for what to expect on the tests.
He is old fashioned in a good way. He likes writing on the white board. Does examples, references the textbook. He sees value in helping a student succeed wants every them to. He will help when you forget equations. He teaches you how to use and apply concepts in a useful and ynderstandable way. He teaches you how to learn and apply principles.
Dr. Vadasz is an excellent professor. His lectures are always engaging and I could tell he cared about us understanding the material.
Professor Vadasz has a unique teaching style and attending the lectures isn't mandatory but everything is done in class so you will miss a lot of information if you do not attend.
Pay attention to the lectures, and you will do good.
Dr. Vadasz is a great professor! He cares about his students and wants you to achieve the grade you want to get in the class. He discusses extremely interesting topics on his own research that are absolutely amazing. He is very good at keeping students engaged about what he is lecturing on.
Dr. Vadasz is one of the rare instructors that cares about you as a student unconditionally. He doesn't enjoy giving final grades below an A. You MUST attend 100% of his lectures to keep up in his course as he is very old school in his approach.
Professor Vadasz is the best teacher NAU has to offer. He makes the class fun and you are guaranteed to learn. He makes hard concepts easy to understand and does not expect too much from students. As long as you show up for lectures, you will get a good grade in the class.
This teacher is great. You can tell he wants to give every student an A. He believes in every student and pushes them toward greatness.
Dr. Peter Vadasz is the best professor at NAU by far. This is the third course I've taken with him and he's been amazing every time. He really cares about all students and really wants everyone to get an A and it reflects in his teaching, this doesn't mean his classes are easy though. If you work hard and do your best you will at least pass.
Dr. Vadasz is an absolute genius, I wonder why he's in flagstaff teaching. His classes are extremely lecture heavy, if you don't show up you miss what happened, and there's really no way to get that information. His classes have the exams weighted heavily. Vadasz makes the course was fun and easy, but with difficult information to understand.
Dr. Vadasz is an amazing teacher, he takes the time to make sure all students understand the topics and explains everything in a very easy to follow way. Even when the topics are harder he is able to explain the topics in a way that I can understand unlike any other teacher at NAU.
If you show up and actually pay attention you will learn Thermo and enjoy it. I had him for Thermo I and II and he made it fun and easy to learn the concepts. If you take any class with him you will succeed.
This professor is very understanding and requires minimal work outside of class. Homework was rewriting notes. There was on exam and a group project. Very lecture heavy
Homework due almost every lecture. Notes are a must if you want to be successful on the exams. Take lots of notes every lecture but is great at adjusting pace to fit needs as able.
I have had Dr. Vadasz for four classes and I love his teaching methods. He is very smart and is happy to share his knowledge with his students. Although he teaches higher level classes, he makes it easy to understand for everyone and will help you if you need it.
Professor works your schedule as long as you let him know him know ahead of time. When he is writing on the white board make sure to take notes because there is no book to reference. your notes will be your only reference.
Calcuilate equations on board instead of just showing the slides is really impresive.
Peter Vadasz is a very caring professor and wants all his students to pass. If you show up to the lecture and do the homework you will be fine. The exams get progressively harder so don't think that since exam 1 went really well you can slack on the next.
Thermodynamics is a notoriously difficult topic, but Dr. Vadasz makes it less intimidating! Pros: Industry-accurate examples and easy-to-digest lectures; opportunities to boost your grade Cons: Tests (2 during semester, 1 final) are worth 90% of your grade—BUT the problems mirror in-class and homework very closely, and a formula sheet IS allowed
Peter Vadasz is a very respectful and caring professor. The tests do get harder, as does the material; however, if you attend lectures and do the homework you will do well in the class. Professor Vadasz wants every student to excel in his courses.
Take notes one what is written on the whiteboard, a book is not used to so your notes are your only reference. If something comes up that you have to take care of he is willing to work with you as long as you inform him. Participation is very important in this class he wants see you engage.
Peter Vadasz is one of the best professors you could get in college. He has so much knowledge and cares about his students. The only thing require of you is that you show up to lectures and pay attention. If you do this the homework's and exams should be similar.
Peter is fairly tough but very fair. He is very honest about what is going to be on tests, which happen to make up 90% of the grade. He doesn't use online material, so you never actually know your grade unless you go to office hours.
Dr. Vadasz is a good professor, he makes it clear of what the exams are on and is very helpful when you ask him questions. His modules in Canvas also is a clear outline of what the material is, I found it to be very helpful.
Vadasz is a great professor and is very fair in grading. As long as you pay attention you will get a decent grade.
Take notes during lectures, the exams are problems taken from in-class problems. If there is a test review go to it and study everything he talks about.
Homework can be difficult at times, but professor is always open to helping.
Dr. Vadasz is an amazing professor, everyone in the ME program would agree. This class is graded based on one take home test, one major group project/report, and "homeworks" which are mostly just typing up the lecture notes from the previous class. This is not a co-convened course, but he still separates out the undergrads for tests and projects.
The professor makes it easier to understand key ideas by using real-life examples. Watching and listening to the class presentations is very helpful, especially as some concepts are complex. The combination of theory and practical examples provides a better understanding of the material, and I personally find the subject interesting.
Professor Vadasz is a very intelligent professor. He knows the concepts for every course that he teaches. He wants to see his students succeed and will do what he can do to help you succeed. He is intelligent and understands the concepts of teaching. Great teacher take him every time you can! 10/10!
Professor Vadasz knows the concepts for every course that he teaches and knows how to simplify the complex concepts. He truly wants to see his students succeed. He writes a lot on the white board. He is a lenient and understanding grader. With the project the guidelines were vague. Only criticism I have. I take him every chance I can.
Very good at keeping you engaged but often spends the whole class writing/deriving equations.
This professor was very good at making the material accessible and understandable.
Dr. Vadasz is an amazing professor who focuses very heavily on giving students as many examples as possible in his exams. His exams are very similar (sometimes the exact same) as the examples he does in class. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework a grade upwards of 95% is easily doable.
The 3 tests are worth 90% of your grade but if you pay attention in class and do homework a 100% on all 3 is fairly easy.
Dr. Vadasz is a good instructor and is very supportive. He is very accessible through email and during office hours. In my option the course material itself was somewhat difficult and hard to keep up with. Note taking is highly encouraged as it is considered homework for the next class period.
This professor is very straight-forward and will help you outside of class. All assignments and tests will be on paper.
Vadasz is a nice professor to have. His work flow is somewhat unorthodox but to me his lectures are always fun and engaging if nothing else.
Very hard class, yet very passable when you take it with Vadasz. Lectures can be boring but problem solving is very important. Midterm material is very clear, but the Final can be hard.
Class is lecture heavy, however problem solving is important
I've had him for two classes, while attendance isn't mandatory, it's the only way you'll be able to get the notes. His teaching style is more focused on making sure we learn the material, and the exams reflect that. He actively tries to help us succeed any way he can, you just need to go to him and ask for help. He's a great lecturer but fast paced
Thermo 2 was lot harder than Thermo 1. The grading and tests were not comparable to Thermo 1.
Good professor!
Teaching style is great as long as students attend lectures and show interest.
Dr. Vadasz is a very intelligent and savvy professor, his teaching style is focused on making sure his students understand what he is teaching. He truly cares about his students' success in his course and he is always willing to help his students, you just have to ask.
This professor inspired me to elect a horse as the next ASNAU president. In-between the derivation-heavy lectures he gives fun anecdotes about his life experiences and invites discussion with his students not only in fluid/quantum mechanics but in life as well. Thank you for the amazing lectures Dr Vadasz, may you live to 120!
Great Professor to have! Goes over midterm and final material to help the studying process.
Prof. Vadasz is one of, if not, my favorite Professors at NAU for the engineering department. His courses are well structured and provide really digestible material related to the course. He also a very understanding person. If you show effort, he will meet you half way. If you talk to him, he will work with you. I highly recommend Prof. Vadasz!
Honestly one of the best teachers I have had in my college career. He heavily focuses on conceptual understanding for his students. Is always open for questions and discussion regarding course content. He is concise with his lectures and emphasizes problem solving so that students fully understand the concept and are not blindsided by the exams.
Best when it comes to justifying grades on exams, reviews are typically the test
The lectures in class are so clear and helpful. Professor Vadasz explains the subject matters clearly and effectively. I enjoyed taking both of his Thermodynamic classes.
Doesn't post grades all year, doesn't post class lectures, notes are purely on the whiteboard
Dr. Vadasz always comes to class ready to teach. He inspires his class to learn and makes participation feel important. Everyone who has taken his class knows what a "green card" is and wants to earn one.
Physical homework turn-in, and there is quite a bit of it but it is easily manageable. Only frustration is that sometimes the homework is ahead of the lectures, so be prepared to actually read the book. The exams are the same as the reviews sometimes with the same values. Doesn't post lectures or notes, but is very thorough if you show up to class.
The homework didn't really correspond well with what was learned in class. If it is, you learn it after the homework is due. First exam was super easy, which gets your hopes up for the second, which is not as easy. The lectures are very helpful to understand the material though, and are actually enjoyable, and can go by really fast.
Tough exams if you are not prepared and they are 90% of your grades weight. Study all notes before exam and redo in class examples you'll be good.
No lectures are posted online, so attendance is important.
Good teacher but not tech savvy. Tests are big part of grade but they are short. Homework is done on paper due right before class. Extra credit can be earned through many means.
Great professor! Very understanding of his students. Learn most in class during lecture.
Says exactly what is expected of you. Can earn credit back for test corrections.
Attendance is important, lectures aren't posted. Tests are short and worth the majority of your grade. Professor is fair
everything good
Going to class will make or break grade.
Professor Vadaz was an overall good professor. His tests were very similar to the hw and problems he works out in class. I found it a bit hard to follow as I don't learn as much with his teaching style.
The class is very lecture based, mostly conceptual stuff with very few example problems. If you want to understand what is going on u need to read the textbook and listen to the lectures. The lectures are very boring but helpful for the homework. Exam 1 is very easy, Exam 2 is not horribly hard but it is not as easy as the first one.
Dr. Vadasz's lectures were very detailed and helpful with learning thermodynamics content. He is interactive with student questions and provides helpful answers. Dr. Vadasz is also understanding of students' needs and does what he can for students to do well in the course.
Dr. Vadasz cares about his students and wants them to get the same level of education that he got. He truly wants students to learn and strives to make class enjoyable. He doesn't make tests hard on purpose but rather prepares you for them. 10/10 would recommend.
I think that Dr. Vadasz is a really interesting and knowledgeable professor. He can be difficult at times, and grades fairly harsh (depending on how you feel), but so long as you do the homework, pay attention to what you are writing, and CITE YOUR STEAM TABLES, this is a good class to take.
The teaching style is all done on a whiteboard in lectures. Some but not all content from the scheduled lecture slides are covered. But it is helpful to have on hand, it just becomes difficult to distinct which part of the lecture he is covering. But overall, great instructor and promotes a safe learning experience.
One issue is he does not use canvas to post assignments or grades. Most announcements are in class only which can be annoying especially if you forget what was said in class. Overall an ok lecturer but in office hours he was typically not very helpful.
Dr.Vadasz genuinely cares about his students. He makes class interesting with his sidenotes. The course material can get confusing at times since lectures consist of copying the board while Dr.Vadasz writes on and talks at the board. However, you are given everything that you need for exams and as you practice the concepts begin to make more sense.
Very Funny and Charismatic professor. Sometimes his lectures can be hard to follow, and he is a fairly strict grader on tests. But he makes his lectures interesting. He does some extra credit. If you do your best to follow along with the lectures and keep up with the HW, it isn't too hard to get a good grade in the class
Pretty funny and charismatic, tries to keep his lectures interesting. Is a tough grader ont tests but offers test corrections and other extra credit sources.
His class is an easy class but understanding his material is a little tough. He does problems to himself in front of the class and sometimes it can be hard to hear him or see his work. If you do ask questions then he can explain it relatively clearly. His homework is hard but his exams are pretty easy due to the reviews he does before the exams.
I think that Vadasz is a pretty good professor. The material itself is not very hard, but the homework is pretty intensive and the exams are graded fairly weird. I would recommend, but pay attention to the pre-exam reviews and do the homework. If you do that, the class is great.
His lectures are really good but 90% of your grade is split between the two midterms and the final, while homework only has 10%. This makes the exams very intimidating as they can drastically affect your grade regardless of if you've been doing well on the homework.
Peter Vadasz is a great professor, he covers material extensively in class and makes it interesting. Sometimes it's hard to understand what he's saying because of his accent but after a while you get used to it. Class is very test heavy as in 90% of the grades were based on tests. But the tests are relatively easy and short.
Professor is very easy if you follow his methods of calculations, organization, and notation. But, he will grade you very harshly on exams if you do not have correct notation or unclear notation / organization. Also, come to class!! His lectures are insanely helpful for the exam, and if you do not go, then your exam grade will suffer!
Professor goes on tangents about unrelated topics at times. Test heavy grade scale.
This is a great class if you like reading and can handle the homework load. The lectures were easy to follow, and the exams were very similar to the examples we solved in class. The only downside is the amount of homework, which can be quite heavy at times.
This professor was good, provided good in class examples to prepare for exams.
Professor Vadasz is a great instructor and does written lectures on the whiteboard. His notes are easy to keep up with but takes a week to get used to because of his unique syntax for variables. Vadasz is able to convey the material clearly. If you take his class, sit in the middle of the classroom because notes will occupy three whiteboards.
Although the professor is passionate about his teaching and is a nice guy, sometimes he goes on irrelevant tangents and can be difficult to follow in his lectures. He covers the necessary content and organizes the schedule and grading system in a fair, decent way. Homework can be long or difficult but they prepare you for easier-questioned tests.
Vadasz is a good teacher. He will take the time to answer questions if you have them. Pay attention during the practice problems he does in class and stay on top of homework.
Doesn't use canvas, write everything he puts on the board
A great professor although sometimes it feels as if he is above teaching such and introductory class. He really wants students to succeed and makes sure that those who try have the opportunity to do better.
write all the notes, doesn't use canvas
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is necessary since he will show solutions to problems not found in textbooks. Vadasz is a very engaging professor who really cares about teaching his students and making sure they understand the material. At his office hours, he will help you with any of your classes, not just the ones he is currently teaching.
The class is very engaging, and can go by fast if you're paying attention, which Professor Vadasz makes easy. The subject was very easy to understand. Professor Vadasz is a very forgiving professor, so if you missed an assignment, or didn't do well on an exam, you just need to talk to him and he'll work with you.
Wants you to get an A in the class.
He has a good way of teaching material if you can keep up with the lectures. Some of the lectures are fast-paced and others are slow.
Dr. Vadasz wants every student to learn his material and succeed in his class. The subject is difficult but he does a great job at conceptualizing and respecting each question that is asked in class. He also appreciates and values constructive criticism from his students which I feel is important.
Teaching style is pencil paper no online deliverables, very fair class if you pay attention to lectures and stay involved with the class.
Dr. Vadasz is a light in the dark cave which is NAU engineering, he is what makes my day every time I have his class. I am so thoroughly knowledgeable in the world of Thermodynamics and I am going to change my major to make sure he teaches all of my classes. I love u.
Dr. Vadasz is a great professor who truly wants each and every one of his students to succeed, so long as they put in the appropriate amount of effort. This course involved quite a bit of homework, which required reading the textbook but it definitely added to what he was already going over in his lectures.
This class was a mixed bag, My biggest pet peeve is being in the last week of classes and my grade hasn't been updated from an N/A yet. We are given back our homework and exams so we can calculate it ourselves but it just seems counterintuitive and lazy that we can't just check up on our grades quickly. The professor is nice and class is informativ
copy lectures from board, doesn't post them on canvas
Good at what he teaches, sometimes hard to understand. Exams are straight forward and stuff we have seen and typically no surprises.
Make sure to copy notes from board, he doesn't post on canvas
The professor is knowledgeable, insists on writing by hand, and is very kind but principled.
Class had 3 exams 30% each with unclear grading criteria so you have to be careful.
Good class, lectures were okay. Only problem I had was keeping up with the lectures (pretty fast writer), and when my instructor would write on the opposite side of the room.
Vadasz's lessons can occasionally be slow, though this is largely due to the subject matter. There is a lot of homework but its pretty easy and he mostly grades on effort for them. He prepares you well for tests, often telling you the exact problem that will be on the test.
Lectures were okay, had a hard time keeping up with lecture (flew through lectures). Only other problem I had was my instructor would write on the white board on the opposite side of the room making it difficult to take notes. Exam were pretty easy.
he's ok, I don't know what else to really say.
He is a good professor with a humorous and engaging teaching style.
Professor Vadasz is super knowledgeable about the subject. He explains concepts clearly and uses examples to make lectures engaging. His exams are tough, but as long as you do the homework you will be fine. He also very approachable during office hours and wants students to succeed.
No ectures are posted so take notes while in class
He is very willing to help students.
He is a great professor. The lectures are heavy and he only uses the whiteboard when solving problems.
He's a good teacher. If you actively participate in class, you can earn a lot of extra points. As long as you pay attention, passing shouldn't be a problem.
Does not enter grades in canvas.
90% of grade is exams. Partial credit can be interesting at times. Lectures and material seldom involve numbers, purely variables/symbols. As long as you study/practice for exams, it is not hard to do well in this course. Vadasz is pretty helpful. You can always ask questions and he is always available at office hours.
Vadasz is a nice person and very smart. I wish he would talk more about the book and the conceptual parts of this class before starting on examples right away. This would help with no having so many questions and/or being so lost that you don't know what to ask. The first half of the class was super slow and basic and then it picked up very quickly
Showing up to class and taking notes will go a long way. The course is not too difficult as long as you maintain attendance and attend the review lessons.
Professor Vadasz is very smart and kind. He only writes on the board, so take notes because he doesn't post anything on Canvas. The first exam, he said what problem it would be, but on the second one, he didn't, causing many people to fail. He lets you come by his office for the second exam to do corrections, and will give you many points back.
Vadasz is the type of engineering prof you want. His class is clearly structured and the lecture actually helps your understanding. Heavy on homework, but it is never unnecessary.
I absolutely loved having him as a Professor. He was funny and caring above all else. While there is quite a bit of homework (21 homework assignments total) with varying difficulty and the 3 exams are super important, as long you do the work you will pass this class. I considered this my "Fun" class of the semester by how much I enjoyed it overall.
The professor is a good teacher but as a student you need to read the book to pass. Very exam heavy so three days will decide your grade. He conveys material as well as one can for this subject. Study very hard for exams, go to class, take notes, read the book, and study it. Then and only then will you do well in this class. Mr. V is also charming.

The class was good but as I have taken this class and another with him taking notes is important. He does a lot of practice problems in class which, sometimes the problems for exams will be directly from what was done in class. He does not often post grades online which can be frustrating. Incredibly helpful and wants to see everyone succeed.
He is a very chill professor, he tries to make sure that you actually understood the material, and are able to figure out how to solve it, the hardest part may be the second half of the semester in which for some reason the lectures became boring, and the homework more tedious. But overall he is a decent instructor capable of teaching.
I enjoyed the class and that he tries to make you understand, he does a significant amount of problem solving, problems that usually are related to the exams problems, he is very specific with the exam grading he may reduce points for insignificant things, but the content overall is very basic and easy to understand.
Not too bad, all work is manageable and given to you at the start of the semester. My main issue is that he does not utilize canvas at all, so missing class means you won't get notes and it is hard to find out your grade. Allows you to improve your grade through extra credit and corrections.
Vadasz is cool as a person but the way the class is operated is not the best for my own learning. You can walk away with a good grade in the class if you show up and take notes, but will learn practically nothing. I know how to use the formulas and methods but that is all. If you do bad on one exam your grade in the class is toast.
33 F's on test 2 is all I have to say, Goodluck
The course is very test heavy but Vadasz explains the content and his expectations very clearly. Reading the textbook is necessary as the homework content is sometimes ahead of the lecture content. I'd suggest not sitting in the front few rows in his class as he will write towards the far edges of the board which makes it difficult to take notes.
Grade weights are usually 90% exams, 10% homework. Has very in-depth lectures which are good for notes but will not post grades or lectures on Canvas, so attendance is crucial. Respects his students.
Pay attention to the lecture and the exams are conceptually the same. Good professor, bit of a language barrier but he lectures well.
For Vadasz's fluid mechanics class, you get what you give. Attending lectures is very important to succeeding on exams.
In Vadasz's fluid mechanics, you get what you give. Attending lectures is extremely important to succeeding on exams.
This professor is very hard but fair. He makes you do a bunch of homework which is helpful for studying. He normally makes one of the tests easier if you pay attention dilegently in his study sessions. However, the second test is much more difficult, you must know and actually study the material to succeed.
The professor gave good feedback and was very willing to help during office hours. Lectures are necessary as there is no online notes provided.
If you pay attention in class and do the homeworks, you will do well on the tests, he grades very generously if you understand the concept.
You have to show up for class. He doesn't post anything online. You have to show up and get the notes that will be on the test. He is very passable and easy to understand his work, and why you r working toward a solution to a given problem
Great professor, participation is key, tests can be hard if you are not prepared.
Professor Vadasz is extremely respectful and easy to learn from. He takes feedback very seriously so if you have an issue during any lecture he is likely to accommodate to help you learn. Sometimes lectures feel long but he cracks jokes to keep class entertaining and makes the class something you shouldn't have to worry about.
His tests are well within the topics discussed in class and homework assignments. No surprises when the exam arrives.
Vadasz's class can be an easy A, as long as you follow his instructions TO A TEE. If you have odd notation, missing given info, bad units, he will doc you almost half the points on an exam just for that. So listen in class, and do the homework, and you'll be set.
Use the homework's to study for the Exams. This class is not hard and he makes it very easy to understand the material. He can be strict with grading at times though so make sure you show all of your work.
Prof. Vadasz is a great teacher that lays the expectations for his class out very clearly. As long as you study before the exams and attend all the lectures you should do great in his class.
Good teacher, gives great reviews and teaches coursework very well.
He is a good professor overall, home works are a little bit stressful, when they take a reasonable amount of time to solve, the hardest may be the exam, but not for the content, but of how they are graded, you need to add every unit, order and value properly.
A great professor who wants students to succeed.
He's super sweet if you talk to him outside of class and he really wants all of his students to do well, but he also wants you to learn the material. ME 291 is a lot of homework but he is overall one of the best professors at NAU. If you take him make sure to show up for the review sessions they are a lot like the exams.
Hes awesome
Really good professor who cares about his students.
Make sure you sit somewhere good where you can see all three boards. He goes over certain questions in class, which sometimes appear on the exam, so it's good to make sure you write down everything he covers. There are lots of long homework assignments. One thing I like about this professor is that he speaks clearly and loudly.
Peter Vadasz is a great professor. He is respectful, actively assists the students when they struggle, and answers questions in a respectful and time sensitive manner. He wants students to pass, and provides many opportunities to achieve success. His lectures can get a bit confusing at times however, so dont hesitate to ask questions.
While grade is determined heavily by a test and project, professor is very open and willing to help, he is always available to answer questions and help you work through roadblocks.
The professor does a great job of pacing with the speed of the class. He answers questions timely and provides feedback on all work. There is a homework every class but is not too difficult. There is also a group project in the class and he provides feedback every presentation. He is also helpful when you get stuck. Highly recommend his class.
Straight forward teaching and grading policy.
Mr. Vadasz is a pretty good teacher, he doesn't really use technology, but he does go in depth with the lessons and equations needed for homework and reviews for the exams. He's pretty fair when it comes to grading and will give good feedback after class and at his office hours. If you pay attention to the reviews for the exams, you'll do well.
Dr. Vadasz is a more traditional professor in terms of his method of instruction, relying on whiteboards for lectures. While this does make attendance much more important, it also provides excellent opportunities for visual learners, and he explains complex topics in a manner that's easier to digest. Pay attention in class, and you'll be just fine.
Lectures are often pure theory with equations. Problems are not often worked out in class. Exams are simple enough.
Dr. Vadasz is very knowledgeable in any thing you ask and is very willing to explain a topic to you. He is a very understanding professor. He loves what he does and makes his classes enjoyable to attend. If you geta chance to take one of his classes take it but be sur to ask questions because participation matters.
Vadasz is one of the best professors he is super smart and funny. He doesn't really put any grades into class until near the end of the semester. If you put in work and actually show interest in the class, he will be willing to work with you and more lenient. His lectures aren't mandatory, but you should go because he provides a lot in the class.
Dr. Vadasz is very intellectual with the subjects he teaches and you can tell he knows what he is talking about. Attendance isn't mandatory but his teaching style is very lecture heavy so it's a good idea to attend class. Dr. Vadasz is always willing to help students even if you are falling behind in class material. Use him as a resource!
He doesn't lecture with the slides but posts them if you miss anything.
good teaching, clear homework expectations
He lectured without the slides but had them posted.
Very knowledgeable and helpful
he was good. Very specific at time so be careful.
Great prof
The professor demonstrates strong professional abilities in teaching. Their lessons are well-structured and clearly organized, which makes complex topics much easier to understand. The teaching style is supportive, and encourages students to think critically.
Pay attention to lectures and pdf files. Reference book content after lectures.
Pay attention to the in class problems he does, study those for exams and you'll do well. Homework isn't a huge part of your grade but stay on top of it because it's due almost every class.
I've taken Vedasz twice. The truth is that he is passionate about what he teaches and provides the necessary info/problems needed to pass the class. He wants students to succeed and will weigh your best test higher to help your grade if needed alongside extra credit for evaluating him. His board writing can be disorganized sometimes but readable.
This guy is the best, focuses heavy on analysis examples in class, does not leave you clueless for exams. He is the goat.
Dr. Vadasz is passionate and cares about students doing well in the class. He gives detailed examples that get a little convoluted, but if you pay attention and ask questions, you will do well. Reviews before the exams are very important to pay attention to as well.
The material for this class could be difficult for some, but overall understanding the material is pretty straightforward, especially when it comes to the exams. I would say it is in-between easy and average difficulty but the professor makes the course interesting although it can be slow sometimes.
Dr. Vadasz is one of the best professors I have had at NAU. His lectures are detailed and full of real engineering insight. He explains complex mathematical derivations clearly and always connects theory to physical meaning. The course is challenging but very rewarding if you stay engaged — highly recommend taking him!
Great Professor, pay attention to the lectures for the Homework and Reviews for the Exams. If you write down the equations and examples from both lecture and reviews you'll do good.
A great Professor who really wants each student to succeed.
Pay attention to lectures. Review all lectures slides on Canvas.
Shares the topics to focus upon before exams
Pay attention to lectures and reviews for exams. Other than that, Lectures are alright for the most part, decently easy class to pass though.
Extremely test heavy, but in-class reviews and other resources help a lot.
Grading was primarily based on a take-home exam and a group project, but plenty of time was given to complete both at a reasonable pace.
I enjoyed and highly recommend Vadasz's class. His exams are often only one question. In my experience he graded fairly giving points for parts even if the final answer is wrong. He solves problems in class which often helped with the homework's and exams. Vadasz's lectures are old-school. He also does not put any grades in canvas.
chill dude
Vedasz is passionate about what he teaches and cares about his students succeeding. He provides nearly all the info/solving-skills needed during his lectures and assigns about 2 homeworks a week that might help though sometimes they take long. His board-writing can be disorganized sometimes, but otherwise readable. Just be sure to take notes.
ME530 was yet another great class with Professor Vadasz. In order to do well in the class, make sure you pay close attention to his presentations, and make sure you always ask questions when you need help. Professor Vadasz always does a great job of providing helpful feedback whenever you need it.
In 530, your grade is based on homeworks (which are typed up notes from the lecture before), a take-home midterm, and a final group project/report. He is very helpful in his feedback when you ask him and has lots of good non-class related stories. My favorite engineering prof here.
Solid Teacher Gives opportunities to get the grade you want or need in the class and is good at what he teaches.
Had good lectures, a little fast sometimes but not too bad. Homeworks were pretty difficult, but that helped with exams.
Vadasz is really a great professor; he is super helpful with everything, though his lectures can be fairly slow. His exams are super heavily weighted, but he is very clear with material that will be covered and doing prep before the test. If you have the chance, take him!
Be prepared to follow along for the entire 75 minutes of the class period because he will not take breaks and will spend the entire time on the whiteboard. He likes to take feedback, but is slow to make adjustments to the course. There is a lot of homework for this class, but the turnaround for grading is decently quick.
Vadasz is a great professor! His lectures are a little slow, but he is always ready to answer questions. He is very clear on what is covered on exams. A lot of homework, but it is pertinent to the exams and lectures. Vadasz is super chill, take him if you have the chance!
Lectures are long and disorganized. Doesn't upload any grades to canvas. Canvas slides were old and messy (from Covid). Very hard to follow along. I had an A in thermo 1 but his lectures were hard to follow.
