Awesome Teacher! Fun and even fun to listen to!
Very good professor! Lectures are made interesting with his various pictures, sound clips, and movies throughout his powerpoint presentations. He always uses examples that are easy to relate to. The Lake Michigan cruise is fun too! I recommend his class!
Fun class, puts outlines on BB so print them off before class and take notes on them and studying is alot easier. very nice and funny...makes his lectures fun, will explain things multiple times if you need him to, puts alot of effort in and passionate
Awesome guy. His exams kind of tripped me up, and I didn't do as well as I would've liked, but my fault entirely. He's a fun professor...if you have to take this course, choose him!
Excellent. Very fun teacher; passionate&excited about his subject. Pwr Pt. outlines posted on BB-print these he goes fast;you'll never write it all down! Most quizes given online-piece of cake. Exams can be tricky, but read notes and you're fine. He gives a helpful studyguide & reviews before exam.
His exams are extremely hard. Knowing the study guides are your best shot at passing them. He's very nice and helpful and is there for his students. Some extra credit opportunities are available but during the day time, so class conflicts arise. Recomend him, just be careful of those tests!
Awesome teacher. Explains everything in terms that are easy to understand. All quizes on BB. Notes are on BB before class. Print them off and take notes on them. He gives a full review sheet and outline of exams. Ask questions and study your notes and you'll do fine. Definately recomend this prof..
Great guy. One of the best profs I've had. The material is a lot of fun to learn and he has a good style of teaching. Be sure to study for the exams though.
Take him! It's almost like you're not in class, you're just all talking about stuff together. All the quizzes and notes are on BB, so if you miss a day or 2 or 3, no worries. (Doesn't take attendance.) Study hard for the exams, but he's awesome!
Very knowlegeable. Reasonable expectations. makes class interesting. Fair grader. Provides you with lots of info you will really appreciate.
awesome prof i got at A in his class he is the best and he brings a new perspective to the great lakes reigon
Awesome professor. He's a funny guy and is really nice. Tests are hard but he takes questions right off a study guide he hands out, so know that and you'll get an A. Field trips and extra credits are fun and easy points. Make sure to remember the BlackBoard quizzes and get the notes before class.
Excelent professor! He is very enthusiastic about geology, and the class is fun. the exams basically consist of the study guides, which he gives you. most questions come right from them. remember to take BB quizzes, do the study guides, take notes. I would highly suggest this professor!!
Awesome professor. He was super helpful, fun, and easy to talk to and made the class interesting. The one thing I didn't like that much was his overhead notes. Quizzes and test were fairly easy, and totally reasonable.
Good Guy, Nice and all... I just wasn't intrested in the class but he is a good teacher.
WAMPLER IS A NICE GUY! HE IS VERY FUNNY, SWEET, CARING, UNDERSTANDING...I COULD GO ON 4EVER! HIS TESTS ARE EASY: HE GIVES U STUDY GUIDES, SO U CAN'T FAIL. HE HAVES LECTURE NOTES AVAILABLE, DOESN'T TAKE ATTENDANCE...TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Best GEO Prof Grand Vally has to offer, hands down. He gives you REALLY helpful study guides for the exams. I hate any form of science, but his class I didn't mind a bit goin to. Really awesome guy, if you have him stick w/ him & if u don't, u need to switch into his class!
Prof. Wampler is such a sweet guy who truly cares about the success of each of his students. His tests are very easy if you review the study guides. He is very passionate about geology and doesn't force you to learn from a textbook. I highly recommend him, and you won't regret taking his class!
Wampler is awesome...He doesn't make the class super easy, but you learn a lot and it is really fun, especially in the summer! He is really fun and easy going...The powerpoint presentations are hilarious. He gives you notes online and a study guide, so as long as you study you will do fine.
Hes a very nice professor and he makes the class more interesting then it is, but make sure you go to lectures cause he has pop quizes and thats what killed me since i never went to lecture. Overall i would definetly take him again!
This guy is crazy about geology...it's quite entertaining. Took it in the summer, and almost every week we had a fieldtrip. If you don't want to climb sleeping bear dunes and do a bunch of other crazy stuff, take him during the year. Tests were difficult, but people usually get B's. Very little writing and homework, online quizzes are easy.
I'm not much for science, but Professor Wampler made this a very bearable class. Very intelligent, pretty interesting lecturer, obviously loves science and you can't help but at least like it a little bit too by the end. Highly recommended.
He is such a cool guy. Geo was seriously fun and interesting. The class was pretty simple, and the test reviews had all the questions on it that were going to be on the test. Very easy and fun!
Very nice, and great about office hours. It's a lot to memorize for just a 100 level, but his lectures are good and entertaining.
He's a very fun guy and he keeps your interest. You learn about a lot of interesting things in this class. There's quite a bit of memorization invovled but other than that I would highly recommend him as a teacher and I'd recommend this class.
P-Dub is a really cool teacher. You can tell that he loves geology and finds it to be fascinating. He teaches well but a lot of the material for exams is hard to find.
p dub was AWSOME! he put all of his powerpoints online so you really never had to go to class.. he gives you a review sheet for each exam and all you have to do is look up the answers online! hes such a nice guy too.. you never have hw and dont ever have to read the book! I feel like this class with any other prof would suck!
Don't even worry about buying the two books. Waste of money. Very few questions on tests from the readings. All lectures are from powerpoint. Very approachable guy. Loves what he does. Cares about geology. Easy to understand lectures. Test material is hard sometimes. There are questions on the tests that he never went over.
Very easy class and a great one to take as a science gen-ed. P-Dub is highly recommended. Take him!
He was a very likable guy and he even tried to be creative a little. I'm not a science guy and I recomend him for those who r like me. 4 tests, not too much busy, but weekly online quizzes (easy). To do well on the comprehensive Final Exam u gotta save your review sheets and previous tests
Oh the wampster, hes a good time. he cares about what hes teaching and tries to get you interested as well. offers extra credit and gives review sheets for tests, which are exactly whats on the tests. take this for gen-ed, its great:)
P-dub is awesome. good sense of humor and informing.
Best science teacher I ever had :)
He was soo cool and I actually hated missing his class because he made it interesting
He's a pretty fun guy, the tests are pretty difficult but he gives out a review sheet that covers them really well. Just know everything on the review sheet and tests should go pretty smoothly
Ridiculous ammount of work for a 100 level class. His study guides are awful, he takes them right off the tests (which you'd think would be good) but his questions are like "Greenland's icebergs" and that's all you get on the study guide, because that would be a multiple choice question. Nice enough guy though.
Welcome to an entry level class taught as a graduate course. BEWARE!!!! Do NOT take this course, EVER. Take a BIO or CHM lab instead. He is extremely hard and boring. Everyone in his mind should be a Geologist. How about...NO!!!!
Actually had this class fall semester. The field trip on the Angus research boat was a lot of fun, but be sure to pick the earliest date you can do so you have a better chance for good weather. The texts about the Great Lakes were interesting. You will need to spend time studying for the tests - make sure you know all about each topic.
P-Dub is cool he just needs to chill out with the amount of work he assigns. I got a B in the class and that is only because I did a ton of extra credit. His PP slides are useless, labs are easy but long, and oh yes the study guides are as easy as solving the Davinci Code. Just take another science class.
This was the best class I've ever taken at GV. It was interesting to me and I hate science. Exams were easy if you did the study guides and actually studied them. Everything is taken directly off of them. Final exam is open book. Don't be afraid to ask questions because he can usually clarify anything.
Yeah... they don't come much cooler/more hip than P-Dub. This class really skyrocketed my interest in Geology. Lectures are relaxed, you don't need to take notes, labs are long but easy, and exams are easy if you do the sometimes infuriating review sheets. The class suffers from the "last two weeks" chapter cram where he gives uneccessary exams.
P-Dub is the man. I wasn't looking forward to taking this class, but it was well worth my time. I never thought geology could be so interesting. Hardly any homework, except finishing up extensive labs. Tests were difficult, but he provides a very lengthy study guide. If you study enough, you are guaranteed to do well. Take this class!
Nice guy cool fun class but doesnt repsond to your emails never seems to be in his office crams a million assignments into the last two weeks(3 tests including your final and a volcano project) sounds easy but it isnt
Very cool teacher. He really explained things so that you could understand them. Very interesting. As long as you read what your supposed to and pay attention it wont be that hard.
He was a really nice guy. I do not like geology though. If you are not a fan of the outdoors I would not reccomend his class.Study Guides are ridiculously long but if you answer all the questions you should do good on the test. I suggest finding a couple of study budies. He was very passionate and knew what he was talking about and willing to help.
Intense class for being 111, but it's very interesting and he inspires you to want to learn more.
great job helpful
I have ZERO interest in geology/science yet Wampler was able to make this class not only bearable, but interesting. Tests are no joke - but gives extensive study guides w/ most questions. Blackboard quiz almost every week. Posts all powerpoints on Blackboard which really helps. A more "in depth" gen. ed. but so much better than some GEO 100 class.
One of the best professors ive had. I hate science, but somehow I enjoyed his class! take him if u can
Nothing is ever enough for him, and his grading reflects it. Expect more work than 3 other classes combined. One week, we had a 15 minute presentation, accompanying slideshow and individual write-up(with tons of sources for both), an 150pg book, a question set on the reading, and a 2pg paper to write about a field-trip from the week before. Avoid.
It seems too easy. You have a 10pt quiz every weekend on blackboard which you have an hour to take, you get to do 2 field trips which are actually really cool, and his tests he gives you a list of questions and then picks a certain amt...too easy but he also makes the class really interesting and fun..I loved this class and you get clickers!
Professor Wampler is a great man. He tries to help you to the best of his ability. He also encourages you go to and talk to him not just about geology, but about anything in general.Does a great job explaining things which makes work/tests easy!
Prof Wampler was one of the best I've had so far. Hes very passionate about what he teaches and wants you to feel the same, a good thing. Offers lots of ec, amazing field trips, enjoyable lectures. A well rounded professor who gives the geo department a good name. Take his class!
P dub expects everybody to love geology, as if this werent a general education course. I hate geology, and p dub's style was not helpful. Thats all folks.
P-Dub is the man! He loves Geology and gives tons of stuff to do like labs and blackboard quizzes. His review packet can be daunting but is an easy way to get a good grade on all tests! Plus, you get to go on field trips with P-Dub!!!
This class is far too overwhelming for the low level that it is. Students are often left in the dark with questions that are likely not answered. I would not recommend this professor.
Dr. Wampler was a great professor for 111. You will definitely learn a lot from having this instructor. Although there is a decent amount of work, it is worth it in the end. If you keep up with the reading and study hard for each exam you will do fine. I would definitely take Dr. Wampler again.
Wampler expects students to be interested in Geology, whereas most are not. He also is very general and expects students to be able to find answers for themselves. I did not enjoy P-dubs class.
PDub is a really nice guy...however, he can't keep to his set schedule. We had to cram a lot of work into the end of the semester. We got to go on field trips and get clickers, which is nice, but his teaching style isn't always the greatest. If you do the reading, you'll be fine, I just didn't.
Lectures are drawn out and he does not stick to his schedule. In the final 3 weeks of class, we had 3 finals and a presentation. You don't have to show up but your attendance grade will suffer. Decent Gen Ed to take, do well in the lab and lecture will be a breeze. Great, funny guy, just expects us to love rocks too much.
By too much work, they are referring to the fact that they had to go to 2 out of class trips, GASP, AND do a group project. Oh and the ONLINE QUIZZES!!!! They took so long...FAIL. Winning formula: 30 points of EC=A
He expects way too much, this class consumed my life. He can be rude sometimes, for example if you ask a question that may have already been covered, he will make you feel stupid for not knowing it and tell you to find it on your own. The lectures are mostly irrelevant and useless, but he keeps track of attendance with clickers. Don't recommend him
This was the worst class I've ever taken. He expects way too much from students who are only taking the course to fulfill a gen ed requirement. He's rude, and gives an unnecessary workload.
If you enjoy taking three finals, one of them being an incomprehensible lab exam, writing a six page paper, giving a presentation, and five million useless quizzes crammed into the last couple days of class, I would highly recommend this course. If not, RUN FAR AWAY.
Going into this class, the syllabus read "introduction". He graded us like we had three classes before. His grading was rotten for the amount of work put forth. I will not take him as another professor, and I do not recommended him.
He is rude, and plays favorites. He has quizzes all the time that you only know about if you check Blackboard often, and he give out tons of work at the end of the year. For example, 2 quizzes, a test, and exam, and a final project all due in the last week.
Loved this class! It's definitely not a blow-off though. There's not much homework - just weekly quizzes on Blackboard (you can use your book). Labs are interesting and you usually get them done during the class time. It's really important that you do the study guides, even though they're extremely long - they definitely pay off!
Starts every class with what's going on the rest of the week. BB Quizzes... open book. Always available to help and really wants students to understand material. He makes geology interesting and you will learn a lot from him. Great sense of humor and couldn't see a better prof for this class.
I liked the guy. I occasionally wanted to kick the professor in the shins. He used a book that was waaaay over most of the class' head, but he explained the content fairly well in lecture. He often gave open ended questions, but wanted specific answers. He grades hard, but fair. Overall, I appreciated the class and the prof!
This isn't a hard class unless you're a slacker or procrastinator. Peter is very helpful out of class but is not very lenient on time in class for answering questions. He was brutal on grilling some of the class's capstone projects - that honestly take you all semester to complete. He's a great prof but a TOUGH one to please.
Phenomenal human being. I experienced monumental growth as an intellectual in his class.
Overall nice guy but his teaching is a bit off. He is hard to follow at times and the study guides for his tests are 3x longer than the actual ones. It felt like a 300-level class rather than a 100-level.
Good prof. very professional, and seems to love what he does.
Great guy, great professor! Really makes sure you know your stuff. Study hard and it will pay off! This guy loves to teach, loves his students, and loves Geology.
P dubb is a nice good and overall good professor. There was a little more work than you would expect for a gen-ed but wasn't too much to handle. BB quizzes each week, 10 pts and open notes. TAKES EVERY QUIZ/EXAM QUESTION FROM ONLINE! JUST GOOGLE THE QUESTION! He is easy to approach and helpful especially if you show interest in his class.
He is not clear and can be very condescending. Not available for help outside of class. I don't see how anyone could get an A in his class, let alone pass without extreme effort. Lectures are awful as well.
I like him! He's really nice and keeps you interested. He cares about you and that you get a good grade
Do not like this professor. He makes you to go on 9 hours worth of field trips for a 3 credit class. He got a sub for our class rather then canceling it. The whole class is based on exams and blackboard quizzes but the answers to the study guide and the blackboard quizzes are sometimes not gone over and hard to find.
I am currently a Prof but when I had Dr. Wamper during my time as a student, I felt discouraged that there would be no hope to ever succeed. I spent hours towering over the book while my grades for other classes were suffering. I did well on the exams but that was only due to my resources. I have never felt so stressed as I did taking this course.
PDub is a nice person but a horrible teacher. He doesn't know how to teach, so unclear and I would never take a class with him again. If you have to take a geology class avoid him at all cost because he isn't worth it. His class is ridiculous for a general education class. He expects you to know so much and be so interested in it. Don't take him!!
Really enjoyed P-Dubs class, as long as you do the work you'll do great. Exam questions are right off the study guide, he has a lot of office hours plus he offers extra credit.
Straigh up worst professor I've ever had. He is one outrageous dude.
He doesn't care about his students at all. Stay far away! Do not take a class with him, he's a horrible professor and not a very nice person. Not helpful at all. AVOID
Dr. Wampler lays out clear expectations and grades fairly. You're expected to read the chapters, take quizzes, and study for exams. He has a lively personality and is passionate about his topic. I recommend him.
Cool guy but he's all over the place. Assigns a lot of work but with a good amount of time to complete it although you will always have some type of homework. Tough grader and didn't really give me good feedback or suggestions on how to fix something.
If you are taking him for Oceans, I feel bad for you. I thought it would be a fun class but he makes it incredibly difficult. Do not expect anything better than a C on his tests. I would not recommend him.
professor sampler is a great guy who's super sweet. he really does try his hardest to make the class enjoyable but it was not what i expected. i thought i would really like this class, but it was insanely boring. Tests are also very difficult but he gives a lot of extra credit and t's obvious he does really care about his students.
All quiz information/exam info is on Quizlet and he allows you to use the internet, so that's awesome. He gives pop quizzes about the reading and does assignments almost every class to track your attendance. Super nice guy and an easy grader if you show up and put in the work. A lot of stuff is straight from the textbook.
Professor Wampler is passionate about his subject and is a good guy. He just has a difficult time explaining things well. His tests are tough and material heavy, and his class can occasionally be dull. But his field trip is fun and he does know a lot about his topic and cares about his students.
Professor Wampler is clearly very passionate about this topic, but his teaching method is extremely ineffective. He knows a lot about the topic, but is very unorganized and is unable to explain the material very well. Also tests are not based on material taught in class. However he does bring in snacks and hot chocolate to almost every class.
Professor Wampler starts the semester making you think it won't be that bad. Then he begins to lecture non stop, and "flipped Fridays" are a joke. He also added group projects at the very end of the semester, gave no direction about it. Not to mention he got mad when it was pointed out he did not include it on the syllabus. Also no questions.
Going into this class I was very excited as the professor seemed very energetic and ready to teach the class, little did I know this perspective would go downhill FAST. This class meets 6 hrs a week & is only worth 4 credits. This class is absolutely unorganized meaning the syllabus is from 3 yrs ago & tests are not of the material taught in class.
Class seemed fine at the beginning. Professor is a little goofy but you can tell he's an expert in his field. He's a nice guy and brings in candy/snacks for us. BUT he is so unorganized, expects way too much from non-science majors, and makes his exams super hard. His lectures didn't make much sense and he jumped around a ton. Frustrating class.
He's a very knowledgeable professor who is passionate about his field of work; but, he forgets that the courses' students are not science majors. He tends to focus heavily on the details rather than the broad overview, which impedes students' ability to understand a topic. The course meets 3 times/week for 6 hours; that time is not well spent.
Peter's expectations for assignments were very unclear, leading to marked down assignments due to the lack of criteria explained. Grading and feedback are not prompt. He is very knowledgeable about his work, but his execution and teaching methods are subpar.
I did not like this class. It was a requirement for honors college so I took it. Professor Wampler was ok I guess. He wanted group participation a lot and it just wasn't happening. His lectures are just him talking to the online void. He just asked questions that no one answered. Offered EC. A lot of reading. He's a very slow grader. Frustrating.
I love Peter and he is so knowledgeable! Live Learn Lead is super easy and all you have to do is go to events and talk about them. Peter cares about his students!!
Best professor I have had at GV. I took him twice and both of his classes were my favorite! TAKE HIM!
Professor Wampler is an angel among men. He truly cares about student feedback and always plans very engaging class periods. I recommend him to everyone. It warms my heart to see how much effort he puts into his lectures and he is VERY passionate about hydrology!! <3 He also gives candy to whomever goes to his office hours.
Wampler's class was the worst class I have taken at GVSU. His honors class is nothing like the description. It's not only incredibly boring but science-heavy when it shouldn't be. His assignments are never exciting and oftentimes make little sense. I feel like I'm in a middle school science class. I'd actually rather be in middle school.
THE WORST TEACHER AT GRAND VALLEY. I dread everything about his class. Most of all, it's so boring and his assignments are the absolute worst. They are time-consuming, make little sense, and are heavily reading-based. He should NOT be allowed to teach honors. Avoid at all costs.
Peter is the MAN. I have had him for three semesters in a row and am going to miss him. I might take a geology class just to have him as a prof again. I'm a business major. This man cares about his students, loves what he teaches, and wants the best for everybody. He will make you think and has a heart behind it. Might bring snacks to class.
Wampler is the best and absolutely sweetest (especially for HNR 201). He always facilitated great conversations, fostered a community, and had fun and engaging actives. Very passionate and makes the class fun and have a purpose even if that just having a enjoyable care free hour with a walk or cornhole.
I had Professor Wampler for 3 semesters worth of classes, and he has been the highlight of my college experience in the classroom. Down to earth, invested in his student's success, and passionate about what he teaches. He really values participation and engagement in class but with his energy you will want to be an active participant.
I loved this course. First time HNR201 was like this and he was amazing at it! go to 6 events, 5 short papers and one final paper is the only work. always did really fun events (hiking, cornhole, etc) during class. such an amazing guy. always provided treats for us (cookies, drinks, popcorn). My fav course this year and fav prof I've had. :)
You could tell he definitely cared, he didn't want this class to ever be stressful. Attended a lot of fun events (rock climbing, rode the riverboat) and you just write reflections on them which are super easy. We did a lot of fun activities in class to get to know each other like cornhole tournaments and shooting off rockets. Take him!!
Loved prof wampler. Very caring of his students, brought us hot coco and coffee and homemade rice krispies almost every class. You will read the 2 books, but they are interesting and not a hard read. Weekly assignments are reading questions every Sunday which can be completed quickly and can read ahead. Tests arent bad at all if you read the books
Couldn't find a prof more unclear in his grading criteria, expectations, homework instructions, and syllabus. He assigns weekly reading quizzes for each chapter of your book and only grades 50% of the questions?, but then uses the same questions on your exams. Doesn't show feedback or right answers, you have no idea if you've learned anything. wtf
Having Wampler as a professor will make you regret being in the honors college. Everything he did was confusing: his instructions, his lectures, his group discussion questions. This class is supposed to be easy, but he made it frustrating. He is condescending when you don't understand his instructions. He grades NOTHING, not even our finals!
I loved Data Detectives with Prof. Wampler. He gave weekly reading journals/reflections as homework and class was always engaging. The class size was small + discussion heavy. I learned a lot and I think this is what the Honors experience should be like. Great prof and a great guy! Midterm is lengthy essay stuff but overall not bad.
Dr. Wampler is a very nice person, but I did not enjoy this class. Class is pretty easy, you pretty much read a book and talk about tsunamis and earthquakes, but he just didn't grade stuff until the very end of the semester. He also was not very clear on grading criteria, so you never knew if you were doing things right or not.
Professor Wampler is all around a sweet guy. If you ever get the chance to have a conversation outside of class with him, you'll know that he cares about his students and is extremely passionate in what he does. He is an expert in his field and loves to share his knowledge. His lectures can be boring and he does mumble a lot, but he is a great guy.
He was pretty boring in his lectures and mumbles a lot but he was pretty decent and you can tell he cares
He was very kind, funny, and gave good lectures that were actually interesting. In the first semester he was sick for a little so he didn't get to know our class that well, but in the second semester he really tried his best to bond with us.
Professor Wampler has a specific teaching style that may not suit everyone. The class is reading-heavy, but Unstuckstudy was a great resource for prep. While grading can be unclear, engaging with the material and attending class helps. Not the most exciting, but manageable.
Peter is amazing. One time I texted in our class GroupMe at 11 pm asking to go to Dairy Queen the next day at the end of class. He had the school vans ready to go that morning and took any of us who wanted to go. Very understanding and laid back.
Dr. Wampler is awesome. Sometimes instructions/expectations for assignments were a bit unclear, and some lectures were a bit science-heavy but overall he was great. Being in his honors sequence was very fun. Dr. Wampler is very knowledgeable, fun, funny, passionate, and inspirational. I love when he takes us on hikes and gives us snacks each class.
Wampler is a great guy and cares about his students. There's barely any homework in this class, but he is very slow when it comes to grading. Once, he took our class to DQ because we asked. Super fun and not difficult at all.
I really enjoyed having Peter as a professor! He makes learning so much fun! He is very caring for all of his students, and he is personable, which I appreciate. I would tell anyone to take him. He is chill and interesting! You can tell he loves teaching. 10/10 for me
