Only seems foreboding. Arrogant, but in a good way. Nice guy; willing to help. Not the easiest topics or essays, but a fair marker. Don't make fun of his wife and you'll be fine.

Pete is the man! I really enjoyed what he had to say throughout the course. Gave good topics for term paper, and gave me a good mark (and I'm a CS major!)

There is no structure to his babbling so good luck to you. He can be funny at times, but that doesnt make up for the overall boredom. His midterms are hard and he's not very helpful when you approach him-he's almost arrogant

Tough but fair. Lectures? Definitely worth attending. Tests? Forget it. Don't study, pray instead. Arrogance only a front, as is his rather intimidating demeanour, yet he will haunt me in my dreams...

A good guy, can be funny at times... which is more than can be said for most of his colleagues. He's a die-hard Conservative. Tests are not easy, but he can be helpful when approached!

Lacks objectivity, very narrow-minded and confrontational. If you take his class, make sure you regurgitate what he says precisely - he leaves little room for discussion. His mid-term methods are ridiculous, and in no way reflect a student's ability in the course.

The class is very interesting, however his midterm was CRAZY and unexpected...in NO way did it test your knowledge of the course material...however it did succeed in crushing your political spirit. I am a science student who will never take PSCI again thanks to this moron!

pointless class really, who's side is this guy on? Not ours. Don't take it unless you have to. I've got nothing out of it, nothing good. Midterm was impossible, confusing and unfair. as an open book it would have been too hard.

Mid-term was not difficult if you study; I managed a 90% and I'm not a genuis. Prof is straight-forward and a great lecturer. Funny, engaging, and interesting. Very helpful. This was an excellent class if you're willing to do your homework.

Well, I'm a liberal therefore I deserve a 50 or lower on EVERYTHING, I thought this course would be fun, I never want to take another political course ever. The midterm, never described FAILED, essay he corrected my direct quotes (guess he knows better than the author), and the final, time for fail

I took this course because I am genuinely interested in the material, and the lectures and readings were certainly engaging. HOWEVER, I cannot fathom how and why this man is being paid to teach young and eager minds when he clearly dislikes us, and expresses these feelings by being tempermental.

Material isn't hard, he just makes it hard. Worst midterm ever conceived, and that final was pretty close. He was fair on the essay, just stick to your idea, and structure it (Thesis, Body/Supporting evidence, Conslusion), and you'll do fine. Learn his lectures, the textbook isn't as necessary.

He should not be teaching. He cannot take criticism, and he is guilty of teaching incorrect and/or outdated information. For example, when teaching about Native rights, he was corrected in class by a statused Native who completely contradicted his entire argument. I really can't stand this man.

Most of the complainers here are the bottom-feeders of the class. Class wasn't too hard if you stayed on top of material. Prof was helpful when approached properly and mostly clear. Midterm was tough but what's up with all of these gripers? Get over yourself and stop whining!

90% overall average going into the class, I barely got a B in the class. Unless you need it, avoid the class (and the prof for that matter). I'm no 'bottom feeder', this prof is unfair and oblivious to that fact, which is a detriment to all of us students.

He is a put down artist. He uses his insecurity over his wife to put down students. Just listen to his quotes of Alan Carnes and you’ll be ok. However, good luck pulling of an A in this course.

AWESOME class lecture material. Very helpful outside of class. Miderm and Final where the hardest exams I've written in 5 years of post-secondary education. Brutal marker on course papers. I thought I was going to get a 70 in the course, but I ended up getting an 85??? Did he curve grades?

You just have to get to know the guy outside of class. Tough marker, yes, but you'll learn more in his class than many others. A bit cocky, but nice and intelligent man.

yes, woolstencroft isn't easy.but 373 is WAY better than 260. he is actually interested in the topic and is very helpful. He doesn't like stupid people, but he is a great prof. He is hillarious and he made the most boring material very interesting. He is a great prof...take his class.

Very tough exams. At least he teaches an interesting subject. Watch out, though, he's an Albertan nationalist and doesn't like Quebecers. Arrogant conservative who talks down to others on the political spectrum. The midterm will kill you!

Fun prof, approachable but makes you feel stupid sometimes. the simulation was a breeze: 1 person takes over the rest get the grades. as for the essay he gave everyone the same comment "poor writing style" whatever thats supposed to mean. participation marks: just show up and sign your name during other peoples presentations. easy marks.

Covers alot of ground in lectures. PSCI at waterloo has a bad habbit of going really slowly. His ideas aren't uber radical, but he presents a conservative view point knowledgably and inteligently. Will put you in your place if you disagree. Comes to pub nights!

great prof, makes me interested in politics, lectures pass by pretty fast, however when you do go to seek help from him, he goes off topic a lot and does not end up helping you even though u've sat there for 45 mins. Exams are HARD. fill in the blanks require you to use his SPECIFIC wording so going to class = a must. hard essay marker too.

Good Teacher. His midterm was HARD, the essay was decently marked, exam... seemed easier than expected. Despite other comments, he is NOT a rampant conservative, I feel he is very careful, and more thoughtful than someone who would carelessly align himself with any ideology. Never talked to him, but seems willing to discuss matters with students.

Had Pete for 260A & 373. He's a great guy and is approachable outside of class (it might change your opinion of him). He's an old-style conservative (Joe Clark type). Exams were not the easiest, but stay on top of your work and you will be fine. PSCI 373 is a much better clas than 260A to take with him.

I don't know what everyone here is going on about. This course is relevant (especially since it coincided with the election) and Woolstencroft really knows his stuff. He might be in-your-face, but he really cares if you take the initiative to approach him for questions. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and ended up with a pretty sweet grade.

Out of four years as a politica science major at UW this by FAR is the worse course I have taken. The material is interesting enough, but the prof makes lectures unbearable. It is very unclear what he expects out of assignments and exams are wildly unfair. Avoid this prof

You definitely must attend class. He elaborates on the text with anecdotes and personal insights. Fantastic delivery and engaging presence. He's a tough marker, but he knows what he's talking about and is unafraid to tell you you're wrong - don't take it personally. Ultimately, I learned so much from his class.

Dr. Woolstencroft is an old school Red Tory. You can tell from his anecdotes that he possesses a great deal of experience in Canadian politics. He often tells stories about his past encounters and friendships with high ranking Canadian politicians. He's also a great professor. It's not often that you get a prof who still lectures without notes.
