unintelligible, unclear, undynamic= HORRIBLE PROF
So far, unremarkable - very average.
Didn't like him much
He seems fine to me!
WARNING do not take courses w/ him
Good prof - knowledgeable

Meh. At least he's marginally conservative.
One word.... BORING!! Hard to follow, mumbles, monotone, and he hates Liberals.
He's a good professor; clear if you are listening.
Make sure you listen in class, it's easy to get lost!
Very approachable, gives long extensions if asked!
Boring lectures, sweet man. He knows a lot of important PC's...yay Joe!
I like the guy... kind of pompous, but that makes him fun
No Comments
He thinks he's the king of the castle because his wife is mayor. Unprofessional behaviour, hope you retire soon you old fart.
Too bad his arrogance gets in the way, he could actually be a good guy. But he mumbles, and he's full of himself - avoid him if you can. Good luck getting a good mark.
Arrogant, closed-minded, and a mumbler - not to mention the worst prof I've ever had in my 2 years at Waterloo. There's no structure to his class; it's all about his opinion.
good man
good orator, helpful and somewhat humourous
Only seems foreboding. Arrogant, but in a good way. Nice guy; willing to help. Not the easiest topics or essays, but a fair marker. Don't make fun of his wife and you'll be fine.
Pete is the man! I really enjoyed what he had to say throughout the course. Gave good topics for term paper, and gave me a good mark (and I'm a CS major!)

Sweet guy; one of the last true conservatives. Brilliant, but you won't realize that quickly.
apparently his lectures are more important than brain surgery... I didn't know that rambling cured brain tumours???
I liked this class... he was interesting to listen to... he was very funny with his purposely crude commentary... liked to drop subtle hints about his political connections...
There is no structure to his babbling so good luck to you. He can be funny at times, but that doesnt make up for the overall boredom. His midterms are hard and he's not very helpful when you approach him-he's almost arrogant
His lectures were okay but he was incredibly BIASED. A very ARROGANT man who is difficult to approach.
Good prof, amazing course, all Canadians should take it. Lectures not well organized, too many "fundamental" points. Tests are ridiculous.
Tough but fair. Lectures? Definitely worth attending. Tests? Forget it. Don't study, pray instead. Arrogance only a front, as is his rather intimidating demeanour, yet he will haunt me in my dreams...
This guy is OK - a bit full of himself, but knowledgable nonetheless. Hardly a "true" conservative - he's about as centrist as they come. But a good guy. Not hard if you pay attention.
all canadians should take this class. you will be amazed at the country you live in. the mid term will destroy your will to live, so cram cram cram.
A good guy, can be funny at times... which is more than can be said for most of his colleagues. He's a die-hard Conservative. Tests are not easy, but he can be helpful when approached!
Very rrogant man. Was not helpful at all and will rip you apart if he grades your esay. Other than that he is a knowledgeable prof and his class is not the hardest.

Mid-term made me question my will to live.
Lacks objectivity, very narrow-minded and confrontational. If you take his class, make sure you regurgitate what he says precisely - he leaves little room for discussion. His mid-term methods are ridiculous, and in no way reflect a student's ability in the course.

The class is very interesting, however his midterm was CRAZY and unexpected...in NO way did it test your knowledge of the course material...however it did succeed in crushing your political spirit. I am a science student who will never take PSCI again thanks to this moron!
pointless class really, who's side is this guy on? Not ours. Don't take it unless you have to. I've got nothing out of it, nothing good. Midterm was impossible, confusing and unfair. as an open book it would have been too hard.

Mid-term was not difficult if you study; I managed a 90% and I'm not a genuis. Prof is straight-forward and a great lecturer. Funny, engaging, and interesting. Very helpful. This was an excellent class if you're willing to do your homework.
Well, I'm a liberal therefore I deserve a 50 or lower on EVERYTHING, I thought this course would be fun, I never want to take another political course ever. The midterm, never described FAILED, essay he corrected my direct quotes (guess he knows better than the author), and the final, time for fail
If you know your stuff, and can hold your position, he is a great guy to discuss politics with. Just dont be an idiot and he won't have to tell you that you are wrong and an idiot.
Absolutely horrible. How can an arts prof fail 40% of his students on a midterm and not realize his own inability to write fair and accurate test questions? Good course material, very poorly tested.
I took this course because I am genuinely interested in the material, and the lectures and readings were certainly engaging. HOWEVER, I cannot fathom how and why this man is being paid to teach young and eager minds when he clearly dislikes us, and expresses these feelings by being tempermental.
Material isn't hard, he just makes it hard. Worst midterm ever conceived, and that final was pretty close. He was fair on the essay, just stick to your idea, and structure it (Thesis, Body/Supporting evidence, Conslusion), and you'll do fine. Learn his lectures, the textbook isn't as necessary.

He should not be teaching. He cannot take criticism, and he is guilty of teaching incorrect and/or outdated information. For example, when teaching about Native rights, he was corrected in class by a statused Native who completely contradicted his entire argument. I really can't stand this man.
Most of the complainers here are the bottom-feeders of the class. Class wasn't too hard if you stayed on top of material. Prof was helpful when approached properly and mostly clear. Midterm was tough but what's up with all of these gripers? Get over yourself and stop whining!
90% overall average going into the class, I barely got a B in the class. Unless you need it, avoid the class (and the prof for that matter). I'm no 'bottom feeder', this prof is unfair and oblivious to that fact, which is a detriment to all of us students.
A knowledgable professor who is completely incapable of writing a sane exam. Exams take a lot from lectures, so don't expect the textbook to save you.
He is a put down artist. He uses his insecurity over his wife to put down students. Just listen to his quotes of Alan Carnes and you’ll be ok. However, good luck pulling of an A in this course.
Worst prof I have ever had. Hates everyone from Southern Ontario. He is from AB.
He was a total jerk! In the middle of a class told me that I would never be good enough to get into a grad school...Well look at the letters behind my name now!
AWESOME class lecture material. Very helpful outside of class. Miderm and Final where the hardest exams I've written in 5 years of post-secondary education. Brutal marker on course papers. I thought I was going to get a 70 in the course, but I ended up getting an 85??? Did he curve grades?
More factious then Bush and you can't elect him out.
You just have to get to know the guy outside of class. Tough marker, yes, but you'll learn more in his class than many others. A bit cocky, but nice and intelligent man.
Definately not a fun class, prof is completely full of himself, strays too far with his uninteresting anecdotes, and is a boring speaker.
He's a great speaker. Unfortunately, his inability to write a fair exam keeps him from being one of the best professors at Waterloo.
yes, woolstencroft isn't easy.but 373 is WAY better than 260. he is actually interested in the topic and is very helpful. He doesn't like stupid people, but he is a great prof. He is hillarious and he made the most boring material very interesting. He is a great prof...take his class.
excellent teacher.. knows what he is talking about. very approachable and always willing to help. can be intimadating at first..but overall awesome prof!
Very tough exams. At least he teaches an interesting subject. Watch out, though, he's an Albertan nationalist and doesn't like Quebecers. Arrogant conservative who talks down to others on the political spectrum. The midterm will kill you!
Fun prof, approachable but makes you feel stupid sometimes. the simulation was a breeze: 1 person takes over the rest get the grades. as for the essay he gave everyone the same comment "poor writing style" whatever thats supposed to mean. participation marks: just show up and sign your name during other peoples presentations. easy marks.
Covers alot of ground in lectures. PSCI at waterloo has a bad habbit of going really slowly. His ideas aren't uber radical, but he presents a conservative view point knowledgably and inteligently. Will put you in your place if you disagree. Comes to pub nights!
He's a great professor.. though his exams aren't all that easy. But it's worth taking the course just to understand more about the political nature of Canada. Learned a lot even if it doesn't show in my marks.
Hardest prof I've ever had !!! Expects way too much for a course taht has no pre-req...I dunno what he's thinking ....We're not PSCI grads...we're there to learn...He's a good guy, but the course can be a lot better taught. Lectures and text...contradicting
great prof, makes me interested in politics, lectures pass by pretty fast, however when you do go to seek help from him, he goes off topic a lot and does not end up helping you even though u've sat there for 45 mins. Exams are HARD. fill in the blanks require you to use his SPECIFIC wording so going to class = a must. hard essay marker too.
Good Teacher. His midterm was HARD, the essay was decently marked, exam... seemed easier than expected. Despite other comments, he is NOT a rampant conservative, I feel he is very careful, and more thoughtful than someone who would carelessly align himself with any ideology. Never talked to him, but seems willing to discuss matters with students.
SO HARD! Way to fail the entire class
fear this class
Had Pete for 260A & 373. He's a great guy and is approachable outside of class (it might change your opinion of him). He's an old-style conservative (Joe Clark type). Exams were not the easiest, but stay on top of your work and you will be fine. PSCI 373 is a much better clas than 260A to take with him.
hard to understand what he expects from your work
Extremely rude & arrogant. Avoid him as a prof if you can.
I don't know what everyone here is going on about. This course is relevant (especially since it coincided with the election) and Woolstencroft really knows his stuff. He might be in-your-face, but he really cares if you take the initiative to approach him for questions. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and ended up with a pretty sweet grade.
Bad prof (1) lectures with overheads (2) does not post material online (3) does not open discussion boards online (4) lectures are hard to follow (5) lectures often dont coincide with the course outline (6) lectures dont coincide with assigned readings (7) mandatory readings on course reserves at DP with one book for a class size of over 100..(
Out of four years as a politica science major at UW this by FAR is the worse course I have taken. The material is interesting enough, but the prof makes lectures unbearable. It is very unclear what he expects out of assignments and exams are wildly unfair. Avoid this prof
The most arrogant professor ever. Incredibly vague on his expectations. Avoid at all costs. MUST attend all lectures, does not post anything online.
You definitely must attend class. He elaborates on the text with anecdotes and personal insights. Fantastic delivery and engaging presence. He's a tough marker, but he knows what he's talking about and is unafraid to tell you you're wrong - don't take it personally. Ultimately, I learned so much from his class.
Dr. Woolstencroft is an old school Red Tory. You can tell from his anecdotes that he possesses a great deal of experience in Canadian politics. He often tells stories about his past encounters and friendships with high ranking Canadian politicians. He's also a great professor. It's not often that you get a prof who still lectures without notes.
Yikes
If you have any shred of interest in Canadian politics, Woolstencroft is the man.
