good teacher made class enjoyable and also very easy to follow
He's a great teacher and teaches it crystal clear! Thanks
He is a good teacher, he can go pretty fast but will stop and answer all questions. Wants you to succeed. Has some funny jokes. Gives extra credit, tells you what will be on test. Would definitely recommend and take again.
Best Calculus teacher I have ever had. Math is a challenge for me, but Prof. Yi explains everything down to the last detail. H/W is x-credit, go to class and take great notes and you will do fine. Very nice and willing to help at office hours. BEST MATH TECHER.
Good teacher, keeps class interesting. Tells you what will be on test, gives extra credit. Calculus is a tough subject but he makes it bearable. I recommend him. But don't cheat on his tests because he walks around a lot during tests and he is stealthy like a ninja!
this may or may not mean anything to you . . . but after almost every phrase or sentence. . . peter will ask the question "you guys okay?"
Mr Yi is freaking great! If you ever have to a choice between him and Morales Take Yi, not because Morales freaking stinks, but because he is an awesome teacher that makes the material easily understood. Did I mention mathews-morales is a freaking toad?
dang good teacher, very clear and funny. I recommend highly.
He is a good teacher. He explained each problem very well. His test are not hard, if you are paying attention in the class. Overall, he is a good instructor. i took summer class, i got an A. It was alot of homework, so overwhelming, but teacher made eveything easy.
Very interesting teacher, you guys okay? Everything he explained was crystal clear and I rarely felt any pressure on the class or the tests. I am highly looking forward to taking more math classes from in the futures, you guys okay?
Really thorough teacher. He makes sure everyone understands the problems. Recommend him anytime. Okay people?
peter is a great teacher. he explains everything very clear. he gives extra credit, and i would totally recomend him and take another class with him.
This professor is really great (as far as instruction). His humor is a little dry, but as far as the subject matter he is very good. He allows HW as extra credit and he drops the lowest exam. He's great!
College Algebra: Yi goes fast through the material but he is fair and knows how to teach. He is clear and organized and patiently answers questions. His tests are hard but he is an easy grader and lets you use notes so if you have a brain you will pass. Just do the extra credit hw and submit online tests on time. Take him!
Peter Yi is one of Ventura Colleges most capable Math Professors. He has complete mastery of concepts advanced and elementary. Has a great way of mixing review of basic concepts into his lectures, as well as explaining how concepts come into use in more advanced classes. I'd recommend him to anyone.
Prof Yi is very fair in grading. I got an answer wrong on the final but he still gave me credit because I showed my work. He goes pretty fast but I found the homework easy if I kept up to date on the new assignments. Make sure you have a full notebook to devote to this class. Or at least 3 full sheets per class.
dude is the best math teacher in VC. He is pretty funny too. I would recommend, nice fellow.
I took his intermediate algebra class in summer 08' when I was 12, and I say I couldn't have had a better instructor than him! He REALLY knows how to teach, and he made my time fun, and the time passed by too quickly. I moved, but even now, if his class was open, it would be worth the 30 mile drive everyday. 10 thumbs up--look at his rating!!! :)
The best teacher I've ever had. If you had him, you would understand he is very helpful and even sometimes funny.
Work your class schedule around taking this fellow for math.
awsome teacher hes the best math teacher you can ask for. tAKE THE TIME TO CHECK IT OUT....
He is a very funny guy who fully explains the material...you dont even need the book just 80 bucks to get an access code on coursecompass.
Really easy dude n he teaches the subject well
Best math teacher I have ever had! Explained the material clearly and completely. Not just here's the formula, but why and how it's used. Plus, he is funny. I am so glad I took his math class.
Great math class, if you want to learn algebra take this class, I went in with no skills, left with mad skills, Best math teacher i've had!
Unless he has you do the homework and exams online I wouldnt take him again. Homeworks done in book and goes threw chapters to fast and final is everything from that semester. Hes funny and knows it is hard but he doesnt help get study groups going & seems to just be there to teach because its his "job" not because he truly wants to help us learn.
Good class, a bit tough. Overall a nice guy who makes things very clear. Teaches Multivariable better than the book.
He is good at explaining things but he is not as funny as he tries to be. overall a pretty cool professer
He is an alright teacher, he explains things averagely, he has office hours for extra assistance however the only thing is on all his exams their hard. He doesnt expect you to know just the basics, he will manipulate the problems to the extreme to make you really think. People are taking test for literally the full 2hrs. Doesnt tell whats on exams.
Dr. Yi is an Awesome teacher. Took him last year. You'll be taking the opportunity for granted if you don't take him. Easy "A". Meaning: He makes the material so clear and easy (No Book!)that it stays with you from then on. I'm now heading into Calculus wishing he was my Professor, so I know what I'm talking about.
I love Professor Yi. I took him for both of my Algebra courses. He is fast but he is also very in-tuned with his class. Meaning; he will stop and review if he senses its needed, which you do not find often with the math professors. I highly recommend him for any math. He is amazingly smart and will go over and beyond for his students to succeed.
Definately has a sence of humor, he is very helpful, way better than the Math teacher @ OC, and he deserves to be a Math teacher, he is good at what he does. 8D I hope he read this XD.
Very good teacher, goes over everything in very good detail. I'm so happy I got him for v03 next semester.
He teaches in a way that's easy to learn from.
The class is easy if you do all the homework because it's extra credit, and really helps your grade. The tests and homework are all online and it's very helpful in understanding the material. He allows a sheet of paper of notes for the midterm and final. I did all the homework did okay on my tests and got an A.
Fantastic math teacher! Each class is well thought out and he covers all the material in the homework so you don't struggle through the homework. The tests are manageable if you study and he grades on the curve. One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
One of the best math teachers ever! I was in highschool when I took his course during the summer, the only down fall was an online component. So there were a few technical difficulties. he did take roll everyday. & also for the test online he would give you 3 chances & keep the highest score. Just one midterm & final!
Yi is by far one of my favorite professors at VC. He understands what he is teaching extremely well. He is very thorough and tells random math jokes sometimes. As long as you keep up with the homework and tests you should have no trouble with this class. Best math class yet! I'd love to take more from him.
Best math teacher I've ever had. I was scared to take Algebra after a 12 year hiatus from school. But his color coded lectures, pacing, and ability to contextualize concepts before giving you the equations is beyond compare. Dry sense of humor is a nice break, too. What are you waiting for? Take him now. You guys ok?
I like how professional Peter is. From my experience, he didn't seem to favor any student over another. His teaching methods managed to make multivariable calculus seem less daunting. Rather than shoving random formulas in your face, he takes the time to thoroughly explain the equation's origin. Best math teacher I've had.
Best Math teacher I have taken. He makes everything so simple. He tells you the reason for everything, minimizing any chance of mistake. I found myself questioning things less, because I understood why I was doing the process.
Subject itself if hard. He knows how to teach very well. Just try to get passed his stuttering. I got used to it tho. Probably the best math teacher I've had thus far, I took him again for Differntial/Lin Algebra (V24). Make sure to review all examples and be mindful of what he wants on the test. Finals are kinda hard and sometimes rushed. study!!!
he expects you to know your roots and know your terms ,I took him for the summer and I studied everything and most stuff were not on the final ,he lets you use notes on the final (he wasted my time ) if I would have known I wouldn't have taken his class !so if your not good at math don't take him ! he expects to much
I had taken this class for a summer course and had no problems. Even in the short amount of time. He gives your three chances on each quiz and allows you to make your own notes for the final. If you pay attention in class, there is no chance you will fail. The people who don't do well are the ones who talk and not pay attention then blame him.
He is simply the most awesome straight forward professor I have ever taking. He's grading scheme makes it almost impossible for a D student to fail. Test are online (3attempts), HW is extra credit 1/2 of a letter grade (5%), notes are provided for the midterm, but not for the final. Be WARN the FINAL is not easy! Most of all he explains the why
Great Teacher, he takes the time to ensure EVERYONE is understanding the lesson and always more than willing to answer questions. Great class for those who need a little more time to catch on and grasp the concept. He is by far the best math teacher I've ever had, he made math easy for me as long as I put in the effort
Hybrid class. The homework is extra credit and online. 10 chapter exams- you get three tries and the highest score counts. He gives sample questions similar to the midterm and goes over them before. there are extra credit problems on the midterm. Mr. Yi is extremely helpful and wants his students to learn and succeed in his class. Take Mr. Yi!!! :)
This teacher was great. He took the time to make sure everyone understood the material. He uses MyMathLab. You get 3 tries on each chapter exam & you keep the highest score. & hw is extra credit. Plus, he lets you use notes on midterm &final! Highly recommended.
He is a great teacher. He explains everything well and answers questions and concerns right away. Had MyMathLab for quizzes and tests. His class is easy to follow as long as you pay attention. Having the book can also help if you can't attend his class. Attending his class is a must if you have no book.
Uses weird ways to explain problems. Not the best math teacher, def not recommend. Makes math boring. Spending 2 1/2 hours in his class was not great at all
Excellent professor! I do not understand these negative ratings. He is amazing at explaining and breaks it down really well. He always makes sure that we are following along. His examples seem weird but they are pretty funny. You will NOT REGRET taking him!
Best math professor at Ventura college! you will definitely not regret taking him! math is not my favorite subject but he explains the material so well! Take him you wont regret it. Lets you use notes on final and mid term :)final is worth 25% of you grade
It's not easy but he is more than willing to explain and help all of his students. He cares a lot about his students, which is why I'm also going to take his Math v04 class also. Semi-hard class; but you learn a lot.
Pretty hard material but Peter makes the class bearable. Homework is up to 5% extra towards each test. Just put in the time and effort and utilize his office hours. His Final is a beast though. Highly recommend taking Peter over any of the other professors for any high level math course you have the chance to take it with him.
Horrible, You have two hours of use less lectures! He expects you to know too much, you're suppose to teach a class, Not assume your students would know it. DO NOT RECCOMEND !
Doesn't give actual extra credit, but the way he grades, it sure feels like extra credit is built in. Awesome experience. Great online tools given for learning. Responds quickly to email questions. Caring person. Thank you, Professor Yi.
I walked in to this class thinking it was going to be a great , boy was i wrong not only that but i really disliked the teacher, Peter Yi is a very strict teacher who i honestly believe could care less if you pass or fail his class , more than half the notes he lets you use are not even on the exams plus he expects you to know too much.
If you just study and understand the textbook questions that he tells you to study for the midterm and the final, you will do well. He hands those lists out for a reason :)! This teacher is outrageously awesome if you know how to study for a class. HW and quizzes are easy and enriching. No issues in my opinion.
Honestly one of the worst teachers I have taken while attending Ventura College, does not seem to care whether or not students pass homework is only worth 5 percent extra credit thats it! just five extra points added to your grade.
Peter Yi is the greatest professor I've ever had thus far in my educational career. He teaches you everything from the ground up. Occasionally in lectures he would start explaining basic algebra in ways that made me think "wow i never would have noticed that on my own but that makes so much sense." Very great math mind. Take him!
Peter Yi is a Great Professor! My friends and I call him Master Yi because he is pretty good at math and he explains it very well. He barely use the book because its all in his head. I highly recommend taking his class if you want to learn Calculus B the right way. His homeworks are 5% extra credit for each test! That will help you, so do them!
Pretty good professor. Sure know why the school call him Master Yi.
Explained math in a way that I not only understood how to do it but why I was doing it that way. Does not take role but missing will make homework extra tough.
Professor Yi provides great analogies for math, like relating parabolas with space ships. He has his own type of humor which is quite funny and amusing. He is fair and explains things clearly, he truly wants the students to understand the concepts.
Class was pretty hard only reason I say that is because im terrible at math but Peter Yi is pretty chill teacher but don't get on his bad side. The class consisted of online tests & HW that if you finish all HW at 100% 5% will be added to your final grade. There is a midterm and final STUDY! especially for the midterm because the final is tough!
Peter Yi is a really good professor who challenges you but also teaches very well, With a combination of attending lectures and mymathlab work his class proves to be not very difficult and one can still save the semester if it is necessary like I did lol
I would highly highly highly recommend taking math with this professor! Easily my favorite teacher at VC. He is extremely clear in explaining concepts and does not move on until the entire class has a clear understanding. If you struggle with grasping mathematical concepts then you should take his class, he makes it so much easier.
The worst teacher I have ever ran into at Ventura College. Ms Bundy had me confident in math, this man erased any progress she made. The teacher makes ALL the difference at how you perceive something as emotional as math. We all have had that experience of feeling frustrated and confused with math. Do not take him if you struggle in math.
This class was the easiest math class I've ever taken, the chapter tests are online and you have 3 tries on each test, he takes the highest of the 3 tries. Not only is it easy but he truly is a wonderful teacher. He really gets in depth and makes sure that the students know the vocal before solving a problem. First A I received in math ever.
Homework done in class, literally just lessons in class, then homework online, not that hard. Skipped classes he don't really notice..
You will have 10 online tests (1 for each chapter), those combined are worth 50% of your grade. The midterm is worth 25% and the final is worth 25%. Homework is extra credit but mandatory. You do it online and it's worth 5% extra credit. Basically, ur whole grade is based on tests. He rushes through class. I had to watch a lot of math youtube vids
Prof. Peter is awesome. It's clear that he plans out his lessons far in advance to ensure that he KNOWS the subject. He is gifted at mathematics, and would love for you to enjoy it as much as he does, but you need to ASK HIM QUESTIONS WHEN YOU HAVE THEM. Sit back and zone out- you won't appreciate all the hard work he does.
Very detailed and understandable lectures, the problems I had, was he was too fast ! It would be an awesome class if he could give 10 seconds to process what was just taught. Final is worth 30 percent of grade, and 100 questions were given to review and the final only had 25 questions on test.
I'm honestly starting to think more than half of these reviews are false, peter yi is just awful/could care less about his students. More than half the class dropped and the rest that stayed most failed. If I wasn't good at math I would of failed too. Also gives study guides for the test and then test have different concepts/formulas.
I took his online college algebra course and had a fairly easy time. 50% of grade is online chapter tests, midterm is 25%, and final is 25%. All the homework counts for 5% extra credit at the end of the semester. he teachers an in class class so if you don't understand something online you can see it irl. I recieved a B and am not strong at math
Unless there are other open classes available I would avoid taking this professor, just rude and spends most of the class time talking about things not relating to math. Just awful at teaching.
I took his class for calc2, but dropped it because I thought he was difficult. this semester, I'm taking another professor and looking back, I took Yi's class for granted. yeah, his class is a challenge and tough, but it's only to prepare you for the next level. right now, I'm taking a professor who sucks at teaching and wish I stayed in Yi's class
Peter Yi is a really great professor. He knows his stuff and really want you to know it too. homework is mandatory to take the online chapter tests oh which you have three tries to take. Test heavy but if you do the homework you should be fine. He doesn't take attendance but if you don't come you wont know your stuff. Would take his class again.
Teaches too slow. Computer part of class is horrible because it doesnt always work.
very easy class. notes are very helpful all homework is online and it isn't due until the day of the chapter test. the homework can be very long but overall easy A
He was a good teacher, made sure you understood the meterial and had review days for the midterm and final. All homework and exams were online (besides the midterm/ final) and you can correct any homework question which counted as extra credit. You also have a week to do the chapter exams and 3 tries for each exam which increased my grade a lot!
Professor Yi is a very straightforward person, as long as you go to lecture and stay awake you are guaranteed a pass, do the homework and study and you will have an easy A. All the homework is extra credit, and also do not every try to cheat because it will end very badly for you.
Had him for a 6- week class in summer. Everything he teaches will be helpful for the tests. He always gives out the study guide to help the class prepare. Besides lecture, you are required to do homework to get the idea of the concept too. He is enthusiastic when students need help after class or on email.
Show up to class and do what he needs of you, and it will be smooth sailing. Just study what he tells you to study, do the homework; it goes a long way.
Peter Yi is not for everybody, especially those who aren't already fans of math. If you do love math, though, Yi is the best. He is incredibly passionate about math, and throughout all three classes I took with him I always greatly enjoyed how he explains and elucidates topics. His grading is clear, his exams are fair, and he's pretty funny too.
I read the reviews and man are they wrong, let me tell you this professor has been the worst one I have ever had. You teach yourself basically, and on top of that, you have to buy an access code to do hw. I should have waited to take Bennett, I would have gotten a better grade for sure. His lectures posted weren't even him.
Peter should be teaching at a better school! Knows his stuff and teaches in a way that sticks. He also incorporates good hw practice problems and gives a great study guide. Best math teacher ive ever had.
I can't speak to how he runs courses during "precedented" times, but during a pandemic, he's not the best. He did upload personalized lectures which were extremely helpful! But the first few chapters were publisher lectures, and they were terrible. Does not extend deadlines, & tons of mandatory H/W that weigh very little (5%) tests are 95%.
Took professor Yi for Calc 2 and Linear Algebra. He has an excellent understanding of math topics and he has an interesting lecture. Would recommend to anyone looking for a teacher.
He was very difficult and could barely explain anything to me.
Cons: Homework easily takes 20-25 hours a week, and each test takes about 2-3 hours. The final took 4.5 hours... Pros: Prof. Yi is very responsive and will help walk you through any problems you need. Most importantly, you get THREE attempts for each test, INCLUDING THE FINAL! Do the time, get the A. Bonus tip: watch his videos at 1.25x speed!
This class was amazing and really showed me how good I could really be at math with the right professor! I looked forward to every lecture. Also in office hours he shows how to do problems that will be on the test. All you have to do to succeed in his class is apply yourself.
I don't think that he is the best at teaching and explaining the material, definitely felt like my money and time went to waste from this class and I do not see it helping me at all for my future.
This class is straight-up horrible. He uses Pearson for homework and all of the homework is incredibly difficult. I'm taking both in-person/online classes and his in-person lectures are terrible. Most of the time it's just shaming students for not knowing the material and reviewing what's already in the online lectures.
Straight forward. UCLA PhD. Gives many opportunities to do so, for example 3 attempts on ch. exams, 20 percent extra credit on midterm and final (graded out of 50 but 60 points total), homework is extra credit though. I had like 110% most the semester. The final was very hard, he is a generous grader, but he doesn't give easy homework or tests.
I found this professor to be very passive aggressive and not flexible.
I had Yi for 2 calc classes. he's great, just pay attention. midterm & final 20% each. pros: -if you reach out he responds quickly and is helpful -ch exams (50%) get 3 tries -attendance (10%) weekly quizzes - he helps & you can collab -offers recorded lectures cons: -Pearson isn't the best -gets distracted sometimes but he mostly stays on track
Summer calc 1 is rough, but Yi was pretty chill. Tons of long lecture videos (watch @1.5 speed!) and a lot of homework and quizzes, but only 2 in-person exams (which are hard!). He allows 1 cheat sheet for tests, just put in the effort and you'll do well in this class. Nice guy, but strict on his policies. Awesome teacher overall, and wicked smart!
Good professor. Long lectures (listen on 1.5 or 2x speed). "quizzes" for attendance. Discussions every week on short videos. Allows 1 sheet of notes, front and back, for the final. Show up to class, do the homework, and you'll do good. I enjoyed his class and would recommend!
Professor Yi is a solid math teacher - his lectures are clear, and he gives plenty of opportunities to succeed, like multiple attempts on chapter exams. The class is challenging, but Unstuck ai and the free textbook are super helpful for study prep.
He can teach very well. The topics are explained nicely for someone who has never taken Calc 2. He is always available to help, and there's plenty of extra credit. The study guides are accurate and helpful for the exams. I highly recommend and would take a class with him again.
Online summer class for Calculus 1. Most of the teaching was done through prerecorded lectures which were long on average but of a good quality. However, he's accessible. The most important(grade-wise) parts of the course are the midterm and final exam, but if you study well beforehand, and prepare the cheat sheets, they will be easy.
He will belittle you if he deams your effort to be less than his standard. His teaching ways are very flawed. DO NO TAKE
