Introduction to Law is a fascinating course as long as you can find the excitement within it. Lectures can be dry but she often recruits legal professional special guests to speak such as Supreme Court Justices.
Amazing professor that gives her own personal examples of the law with every lecture that she teaches. Easily makes a 3-hour lecture worth every minute. Just so you understand how good her lectures are: Lectures were three hours thursday nights (till 10.30) and were always full. Enough said.
Extremely boring to sit and listen. Very frustrating. Nothing visual.
Phaedra has honestly been the best professor I have ever had. She makes lectures interesting with her humour and personal experience with the law. She also always brings in guest speakers to give the class insight into different areas of the law. Her assignments and exams are fair but don't expect to pass without going to class!
Seriously an amazing professor. If you skip lectures you will straight up fail this class, but that won't be an issue because her lectures are amazing! Such a wonderful and inspirational women. If you are interested in the law I highly suggest taking her course. It is exceptional.
Her guest speakers are amazing and she gives such fantastic insight to become a lawyer. Love her to bits.
Great prof that actually does care for her students. Lectures are typically 3 hours but they fly by especially with the regular guest speakers. I'd highly recommend this class if you're interested in law. Great course, amazing prof with the best stories. TAKE THIS COURSE.
Phaedra Klodner is an amazing prof! Lectures are long but she invites a guest speaker each lecture which are always interesting. She provides concrete and real life examples of what it's like to be a lawyer. Very fair marker for exams. Talks fast which is sometimes difficult when taking notes. Definitely the best prof I ever had.
Straight up the best prof at Laurier
Amazing prof. Relates all the concepts to real cases she's worked on, and is super approachable. Go to class, do the readings, and you'll get an A since the midterm and final are very fair. There is a clear grading criteria for the Case studies and the tutorials are very helpful!
I walk out of this class, inspired. The structure of the course exudes preparation on behalf of PK, and the guest lecturers are inspiring. I learned more in 6 weeks than others have taught me in 8 months. If your interested in the law highly recommend.
Professor Klodner was the best Professor I have had at Wilfrid Laurier, thus far. She had the best lectures, which included guest speakers, and her own experience from her law career to illustrate certain concepts, which was amazing! Fair & straight forward assignments/tests. Cares for her students, down to earth, smart and truly an inspiration.
Professor Klodner is by far my favourite professor at Laurier. What better way to teach students about the law then from someone who practices the law herself. Not only does PK apply her own experiences to her lectures, she also brings in guest lecturers every week to share their stories as well.
She was honestly one of my favourite professors at Laurier. I would 100% take this class again. However, if you do take her class she doesnt use powerpoints so be prepared to write fast because everything she says is important, so you have to go to class. Also, the midterm and exam are all short answer. But she is hilarious and has a huge heart
Phaedra is an absolute beauty of a professor. Her PO210 course is out of this world. If you're someone who's interested in law, and is willing to put in the work, in-class and out, you'll learn a ton of really interesting stuff, and get a good mark for the privilege. She's also hilarious. Show up to class! Love you Phaedra!
Phaedra is an amazing professor that makes the class so much more interesting by adding in her own stories. She's friendly and really does care about the students. If you go to class, take notes, and read the textbook you should have no problem doing well. Exams are all short answer, 1 group project, 1 small assignment and a large case brief.
LITERALLY THE MOST AMAZING WOMEN EVER. I LOVE HER MORE THAN WORDS CAN EXPLAIN. THANK YOU PHAEDRA FOR BEING THE MOST INSPIRATIONAL, CARING AND DOWN TO EARTH WOMEN TO EVER TEACH AT LAURIER.
hilrious and super nice prefessor. her lectures are interesting and not boring, decently easy marker but try and participate
She is the best teacher ever. Her class is always entertaining and hilarious. PLUS she gives out free food for answering questions. I want to be her friend
BEST. PROF. EVER. I would take this course again if I could - Phaedra was amazing and she presented all information clearly. Attendence is very important and you should pay attention as most lecture material is generally on the exam. If you attend lectures and do your readings, the exams/projects are more than fair.
Unreal lady. Phaedra is very outgoing and never fails to keep me engaged in class. Great jokes and many laughs. Not only is she a scaring and sweet person all around, she is no stranger to paying it forward. I loved how practical her approach to the study of law is as well as all of her incentives for coming to class. Definitely a woman who cares
Phaedra has easily been the most enjoyable professor to learn from. She makes a dry subject such as law very interesting and digestible. Participation is very much encouraged throughout the class, as it should, given the nature of this course. Phaedra is easily approachable and generous with her time to make sure you have a full understanding.
Phaedra is a great lawyer and very great in lectures, but gave unclear grading criteria and basically left us all alone in assignments. We were left all alone with some guidance from the TA to figure out what a case brief even was, and her stories in class (though entertaining) could've been shortened to allow for more instruction. Not a great prof
Phaedra is an absolute gem. I never go to any of my classes, but I ALWAYS go this one just because Phaedra is so entertaining. She is genuinely the best prof I have ever had and makes me want to go to all of her classes. If you have a chance to take this course, do it before she becomes a judge (there is not way she doesn't get it soon).
Phaedra is a very inspiring prof and truly cares about her students. Loved hearing from the guest speakers and her stories but I wish there were basic slides or notes. Most of them rambled on or it was hard to catch what they said sometimes. Far too many questions on the midterm about speakers.
Disregard the awful review that someone wrote below. In regard to the case brief: -It was explained in the syllabus -It was further explained in class -If anything was unclear we could email, call, or ask her -The rubric was on MLS -The TA sent many emails about it (and an example) -The TA held office hours -The TA looked over them if you asked
One of the greatest professors I have ever had! You need to take her class. She is insightful, inspiring and she can teach you much more than what is just in the textbook. Her stories are funny and usually pretty relevant and even if they aren't they make Thursday nights that much more fun. She is the greatest.
Easily one of the best profs at Laurier. You really have to appreciate it when your prof takes the time to mark every single exam 10-20 pages long in a class of 125. I am in business, so I am more accustomed to lazy profs that have scantrons mark the entire exam. She genuinely cares about her students, and her lectures are unreal!
This is the first rating I've given a prof, but Phaedra deserves it. She is by far the best professor I've ever had so far at Laurier. She is incredibly engaging and accessible, and really cares about her students. She makes learning the many dry aspects of the law engaging and fun, and you want to show up to class. Wish she taught more classes.
An amazing prof. Be prepared to come to class and have long yet very interesting lectures. I love how she applies everything to her job as a lawyer and helps the class understand. Her stories add so much depth to class discussions. Although not an easy class, you will leave knowing a lot more about the law.
Phaedra is super passionate about law and wants all students to succeed. Lectures are always interesting and she brings in great guest speakers - that being said, you gotta go to class. Sometimes grading criteria could be a little unclear, but clarification was provided by her or the TA when asked. Be prepared for one group project and partner work
Klodner is one of the best prof's I've ever had. She's a full-time lawyer, and it shows by how much she applies her knowledge to the course. She approaches being a professor in a VERY approachable way and really cares for her students. There are a lot of paper's to write in this course, and you ABSOLUTELY have to go to class to pass the tests.
One of the most passionate professors I have ever had, & most challenging. The PO210 midterm was the hardest midterm I ever wrote- all memory & detail based from class and not textbook based. You must attend all lectures. Great class to take if you want to go to law school, but other than that very challenging. Must bring laptop, no lecture slides
Is there any presentations for this class?
The best professor I have had in my 3 years at Laurier and possibly in all of my education. I have never been instructed by such a knowledge and passionate professor who truly cares about her students. Her lectures are very entertaining and she even includes guest speakers to make things fresh. I recommend everyone to enroll in her class.
Phaedra is easily the best prof at WLU. Cares SOOO much about her students and does an incredible job teaching. It's absolutely mind boggling how many people say this course is hard. Phaedra is a very generous marker. Don't listen to these Poli Sci kids, they should try taking a BBA course for a change...
The best professor I have had in my 3 years at Laurier and possibly in all of my education. I have never been instructed by such a knowledgable and passionate professor who truly cares about her students. Her lectures are very entertaining and she even includes guest speakers to make things fresh. I recommend everyone to enroll in her class.
She is a great person and prof who is nice and funny. She is just wayyy too quiet... too bad. Sit near the front!!!
Easily my favourite professor and class. 3 hours pass quickly with lots of class participation and engaging lectures. Take good notes on everything - including cases and scenarios discussed in class, as well as guest lectures. No slides. Professor Klodner brought snacks to most classes, and clearly cares so much about the law and her students.
Great prof, really really wants her students to just learn and have a good time. SO DAMN FUNNY. Such a sweetheart. One downside is that she doesn't upload any grades onto MyLS and will take weeks and weeks to mark exams.
One of the best prof's I have ever had. She treats us like we are her own children. As long as you show up for class and engage with the guest speakers you will pass
Klodner is an absolute gem of a professor, definitely my favourite from first year. Her midterm was a bit difficult, but all of her other assessments were incredibly easy and straightforward, and she explains everything with such clarity.
Great prof. Knows how to engage and very knowledgeable.
PK has been the absolute best professor I've had in my three years at Laurier. She is clearly passionate about her work and has guests. She loves her students like they're her own children and will put in the extra effort to make sure you understand and are doing well. Be warned, you'll cry at the end of the term because you will not want to leave.
I loved this class, she doesn't teach like she expects you to know everything. Phaedra was so nice, understanding, she cares about her students & the course breakdown wasn't unreasonable. My advice tho would be take VERY detailed notes, it'll come in handy and study in advance. Overall, her teaching was great but I wish she used presentations!
Professor PK is hands down my favourite professor at WLU. Her lectures were so fun and interesting to intend since she is extremely light-hearted and uses her own real-life professional experiences to enhance course content. She truly cares for the success of her students and even offers help outside of office hours. She is truly a gem of a prof!
Prof PK is an amazing prof. It is a 3-hour lecture and a hard course but prof PK is always there to help you if you need it. She tries to make the lectures as enjoyable as possible and is so funny. Would take this course again just for fun if I could.
YOU MUST ATTEND LECTURE OR YOU WILL FAIL. Besides that, its a very easy course and very fun course. People may shit talk her for being a bad professor, but they're just complaining with little work to show for it. Her tests are fair. Many of the questions were straight recall and a few of the essay questions were given ahead of time.
By far one of the best profs at Laurier. Students this semester were pretty ungrateful and assumed that they did not have to attend lectures and could have just read the textbook and did well. But, that is certainly not true. She invites some amazing guest speakers to come chat. She does not mark hard, if you do the work, you'll be set.
She states everything you need to know during the first week so you can prepare for her course. Attendance is not mandatory, meaning you are not getting 'attendance marks' however, you need to show up to lecture and take notes to do well for exams/midterms (duh). She is humble, fair and kind. You will learn LOADS from her guest speakers.
This class feels being thrown into the deep end to learn how to swim. Prof PK brings a lot of positive energy to the lecture but frequently goes off topic; this combined with the lack of slides makes her class impossible to follow. She falls behind often yet expects us to know the information she did not cover for the midterm. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!
Professor PK was the best. She said from the first class, you will do well as long as you show up and engage in lectures. She is upfront and honest, and so caring. She does everything in her power to help you succeed, so long as you put in the effort. She is super fun, funny, and like a mom. Take her class! You won't regret it
Amazing prof. She wants you to succeed, follow her advice and you will do great in the course. Her lectures are engaging and hilarious :)
Honestly took the class because of the good reviews, but she was an awful prof this semester. Rude, condescending, and provides poor feedback on assignments. She is frequently off topic during lectures. In a lecture 3 hours long, you maybe get an hour of testable content. would not recommend
If you do what she says you will do well. She does tend to get sidetracked during lectures, but it all comes back to her teaching a part of the law and injecting her personal experience into it. She doesn't use lecture slides, so just listen, take good notes, and read the textbook. Anyone rating her badly on here just doesn't know how to study.
Prof PK is genuine towards her students and is committed to their success. She takes the time to write comments on your work and lets you know where you have succeeded on an assignment. Prof PK ends lectures with guest speakers she thinks will interest her students, further establishing how she always has her student's best interest in mind.
Everyone reading this: DON'T LISTEN TO ANY BAD REVIEWS! Prof PK is the goat. She is so caring, kind, and genuinely cares about seeing her students succeed. She is like a caring mom. Any bad reviews you read are from students who didn't attend class, put in zero effort, and got upset when they got bad marks. You would be so lucky to have Prof PK.
By far one of the best profs I have had at Laurier, PK brings so much fun and energy to class, her insight is full of wisdom and years of legal experience. I was blessed having her as my prof this semester. The class was hard but very rewarding for good work, her class pushed me to be better and expand on my legal knowledge.Totally would recommend!
Fall '21, not sure why sm bad reviews. PK nurtured my love for law and now I'm pursuing law after BBA. PKs amazing and wants the best for students. You can text her whenever and she replies ASAP. I got 100 on the exams (w/ no law background) bc I listened prepared the way she said to. If you truly listen to her, you'll get by this course no problem
PK's off topicness gets somewhere eventually. Draws a lot from experience rather than text so listen! Loves questions, so ask! Not very tech-savvy, be patient. Idk accusations of her deleting reviews, I think she deserves all the praises for her wholesomeness and fun lectures. As a prev student, I would probs flag stupid reviews, idk if PK would.
I'm writing this the night before the final. We had over a month to prepare, it's open book, and the lectures (from which all exam material comes from) ARE RECORDED. Yet, there are still students begging for lecture notes and offering money for them. Don't say prof PK is "unfair" because you didn't study. It's university. Grow up.
Most engaging and passionate prof I've had so far. Very lecture heavy, and I personally found the midterm very tough, but if you attend lectures and take thorough notes, you'll do good. You can tell PK genuinely enjoys teaching, and she gives out giftcards each week to encourage participation. She has 25+ years of legal experience and wild stories.
Honestly the reviews here are over exaggerated by far. All profs have their ups and downs throughout the semester but PK is extremely student oriented and truly wants the best. The whole midterm situation was solely based on the fact that if you didn't attend class to take good noted which she state multiple times that you would struggle with.
Honestly the best prof i have ever had so far. Prof PK is passionate, talented, and genuinely caring. I love how interactive her lectures were and how inspirational she has been to me. She motivated me in so many different ways from her passion in law. The bad reviews are not true at all just lazy ppl Prof is the opposite of all that.
Professor Klodner was an amazing professor; I took her class debating whether law was right for me or not, and she fostered my interest in politics and law, teaching this introductory course in a great way. The midterm and final exams are difficult, but if you attend lectures, you will be okay. One of my favorite professors and classes at Laurier.
Just an absolutely incredible, women, lawyer and Professor! You would be extremely lucky to have her as your professor. Have kept in touch with her a little bit since I took her course and she is extremely kind and understanding. Ask her questions, stay engaged and attend every class. Thanks Prof PK!
PK is one of the best profs I have ever had. She quite literally tells you what is on the midterm and exam by emphasizing it and telling you to star it. She is like a mom who wants the best for her students. She is compassionate and understanding of students' situations, etc. She made me want to pursue my legal career and is just amazing.
Prof PK is the best prof I've had at Laurier. Her lectures are interesting and she doesn't bore you with content. She includes a lot of examples relating to the content. Her tests are hard and heavily based on the content from class. If you don't go to class its nearly impossible to get good mark. I recommend everyone take her class if interested!
as long as you study and read the textbook you will be fine. straight forward class.
Prof PK has become my favourite professor at Laurier! You do have to attend her class because you are tested on lecture content, but besides that it's super possible to do well in the class. She is so down to earth and cares so much about the class so she always brings gifts and goodies for us to encourage participation.
10/10 prof
I did well in this class and for the most part enjoyed having PK as a professor; she really solidified my desire to pursue law and her lectures were interesting and thought-provoking. However, I found that at times she could be a bit rude and condescending, singling out students unnecessarily at times. At other times though, she was the sweetest.
I know a lot of people had positive experiences but not me. I found her rude, condescending towards students, and unclear on instructions for assignments. She would send out emails to the entire class to shame students. If you had problems, she would blame your work ethic even for students who are A+ everywhere else.
She's one of the kindest, most caring profs, going above and beyond to help her students succeed. Her warmth creates a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and supported. Her stories make lessons engaging and relatable. She truly wants the best for her students, it shows in all she does She's an incredible prof who only deserves appreciation
Prof PK is simply the kindest professor I have ever had. She has been incredibly understanding and shows genuine care for her students. I wouldn't write a review unless I truly felt this way, but she is amazing. I recommend going to class and listening because she gives you the key to success in her lectures.
passive, says midterm will be on lecture content but had random questions we didn't learn, boring class, talks way too fast to take notes and then doesn't post the notes, would not take again 100% do not recommend
PK has made this class so interesting even though it is at 7pm on a Wednesday night. It is a hard course, but PK is very energetic and makes it fun. I recommend going to lectures as they are interesting, but also very helpful. If you have the chance to I recommend you take this course. Overall, PK is a great prof and this course is amazing.
Need to go to class to be ready for midterm and final! Prof PK made 3 hour lectures bearable with fun games, although I would say the lectures are extremely content heavy and require lots of studying to do good. Gave light assignments including a group one to help boost marks.
This professor is very last minute, she does things at the last possible minute like notifying if she will be in class that day. She also changed the mid-term date not even a week away from the new date she set. Be aware of careless scheduling and heavy lectures, as well as talking too fast to take notes and having a really soft voice.
Assignments are VERY easy, but the midterm was a bit hard. Her lectures have no slides and she doesn't post notes. She talks very fast and has a quiet voice so you will have to sit at the front. But, if you ask her to repeat something she will. She is nice, but not my fav prof. I learned a lot, but I felt I couldn't show that in my exams.
Prof PK is one of the best profs I have ever had. She made 3 hour lectures fun and easier to get through. Going to class is very important, she gives hints on exam questions and is very helpful if you go to her for help. She is the most caring prof and makes things easier to understand when teaching. Loved her class so much.
She is Awesome
Prof PK is one of the best and most caring profs I've had so far at Laurier. Even though this class had a 3 hour lecture, they were always engaging and she usually ended them earlier. She has no slides or posted content so attendance is mandatory, but as long as you attend the lectures and test review sessions it's pretty easy to do well.
Taking PO210 with Professor PK has been one of my favourite classes at Laurier. Her engaging lectures and guest speakers connect course material to real-world legal practice. Although exams are lecture-based and no slides are posted, her teaching style keeps students attentive and interesting.
Prof PK is one of the best profs I've had at Laurier so far! You can tell how much the cares about her students, if you show up to every class you will probably do very well in the course! She gives real life experiences to help explain lecture topics and is very helpful with helping prep for the midterm and final. I definitely recommend this class
