Prof. Lim has some of the most entertaining lectures I've been to. Be prepared for only 4 tests that will make up your entire grade for the course, but so long as you take good notes during lecture, thoroughly review your notes, and understand some of the key points, you should walk out with at least a B.
She is a fun and engaging professor. She keeps things interesting through her anecdotes and jokes. The class is heavily data driven, and the entire course is graded off of 4 multiple choice exams. If you are good at interpreting data from charts and graphs, or you can take good notes and pay attention, you should do fine.
Dr. Lim's class only has 4 tests which are sem-diffucult. Her lectures are sometimes hard to follow because she sometimes goes off on a tangent. The book was the only reason that I was able to do semi-well on the tests.
There are only four test grades a semester so be sure to study. It is a lecture only class, so be prepared to take notes. That being said, Professor Lim keeps class interesting by cracking jokes and relating the topics to student's lives. Go to lecture, take good notes and read the textbook and you should be fine.
She is an awesome prof that likes to share interesting stories in her class. I feel like she is deeply concerned with the general parochial freshmen population and tells stories to let them be more open minded. Lectures cover some nitty gritty stuff that might be on the exams. Go to classes and its an easy A.
Dr. Lim is incredible! Her tests are extremely correlated with the textbook, so READ. Also, make notecards! While this isn't a hard class, you still need to apply yourself and work hard. Dr. Lim is hilarious and cares about her students. Her accent isn't a problem, so no worries about that. She only gives 4 exams-- no homework or quizzes, so read!
Dr. Lim is hilariously relatable. She is so down to earth and makes it clear with her chill classroom environment. She makes a boring subject interesting with her humor, her wisdom, and her use of sources. She attacks all political beliefs and sticks to the facts. Warning: Not a class for the easily offended.
Dr. Lim is very funny and I thought the class was easy.
I never went to class much because she spent half the time talking about everything except state government. Fortunately her exams are easy enough that if you have common sense and review a couple quizlets/lecture slides before the exam you'll get at least a B. There's also 2 points extra credit on your final average if you take this survey.
This class ended up being much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Lim is very funny and makes the lectures interesting. I definitely recommend taking notes over the lectures as well as reading the textbook. The tests weren't too difficult, and I only ended up making a B because I didn't study much for the last exam and didn't do so well.
Her exams are also based on the lectures, which are not mandatory, but the lectures are extremely helpful and help a ton.
I honestly believe this was the best class of my first semester here at A&M. A very good teacher for this class, teaches material well and makes getting an A in her class very easy. If you attend lectures and pay attention, you can A every test with only an hour or two of studying. Do not take her if you are easily offended, she has crude humor.
Dr. Lim is the best POLS prof here. She is so funny and insightful. She knows so much about the gov here but can relate it to the gov in her home country which makes it interesting. She gives straight facts but not everyone can handle the truth. There is nothing but 4 exams but not much extra credit so keep that in mind if not showing up to class.
offered a point of extra credit, bumps up a .5, get ready to read because the class is straight from the textbook. Only a portion of the test is from lecture. I never went to class and just read over shared notes online and did fine.
This class can be an easy A if you don't skip class and you read the textbook. Usually the professor's lectures are pretty entertaining!
Prof Lim is an upbeat instructor that does her best to make the content fun. Exams are a combination of lecture and reading from the text so be ready for that. If you go to class and pay attention in lecture you will do fine in the class.
She's a hilarious but be warned she has no filter. If you get easily offended don't take her and if you do please don't complain because it makes the class boring for everyone else. In short she makes a very boring subject insanely funny.
I love Dr. Lim. Her lectures are hilarious and help the information to stick in your head. Your only grades are from tests, no homework or quizzes or anything, so make sure you read. Her tests are reasonable and everything is on the slides or in the book, but the material is memorization heavy- especially for graphs.
Dr. Lim is a sweet and funny lady. Unfortunately, nothing from lectures is even on the exam. Everything is from the book, an opinionated mess of statistics. She only gives 4 exams (50 questions), doesn't curve. Don't even go to class, read the book for an A, or take it two weeks at a community college :(
It is a pretty easy to follow along class, but the grading criteria sucks as there is nothing but four tests to dictate your grade. It is not a bad choice to take for a POLS credit, but if you can take a better prof, try and do so.
Not great powerpoints and she usually doesn't even go off of them. She doesn't believe in homework so tests make up your entire grade. Very liberal and definitely tries to push it on you but don't start an argument with her on it or she'll make you look dumb. Overall a pretty good prof if you can learn on your own and do well on tests.
This class is made up of only four exams that each require knowing a lot of facts and figures. I'm bordering on whether or not I would actually take this class again. She is a very entertaining lecturer though if that helps you make your decision.
Lim's class started out very easy, but then became incredibly hard. Only having 4 tests made the grades so important, and her tests weren't a breeze. I did not enjoy her teaching style and felt I would've gained more just not attending lecture because she had a lot of off topic rants.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Her tests are impossible and they get progressively harder. Each test is 25% of your grade. Take an easier teacher. I had a 4.0 and I got a C in this class.
AVOID her at all costs. Her tests went from easy to ridiculous, every thing was A?, A & B?, A & B & C? type questions on the exams. You can read the chapters, do the quizlets, 4.0 and go, and even sing the book to yourself, and you still won't be prepared. Offers no curves, only one extra credit opportunity, only graded by 4 exams.
These reviews are so dramatic. It's a political science class; it's going to require you to memorize a bunch of facts. It's what I expected. If you go to lectures and read the book, though, you can start to make actually make sense of the facts (which she wants you to do) so you don't have to just memorize them. Plus, she's very entertaining!
Lim is definitely a character. Some people find her controversial, and if you get easily offended you might not want to take her, but we had a lot of great class discussions. She posts her slides online, but you'll do better if you go to class. Tests are 80% from the lecture and 20% from the book, so make to skim through it. Solid POLS professor.
Dr. Lim's class is not an easy A. You have to read the whole entire textbook (that is full of typos) and her lectures are hard to figure out what is important because she goes off on tangents. She always seemed annoyed and talked bad about people who email her. She gets in trouble for speaking her mind. Don't take if you get offended easily.
Professor Lim's lectures were hard to follow and she goes off on crazy tangents ALL THE TIME. I read the book, went to class and tutoring but still struggled on exams. She's funny, but also likes to talk about controversial topics and if you disagree with her then you're basically wrong. She has little patience for opposing opinions.
Her class was funny to me, her lectures werent boring imo. Though, you mainly only need the textbook to make an A in the class. Tests were based off readings mainly. I recommend buying the book off from someone for cheap from the year/semester before because little changes.
If you like a very straight forward professor, Lim is for you. She told us to leave her class if you get offended easily or dont like how the class is only 4 tests. It is important to read the book and look over powerpoints. Lectures were interesting but not required to make a good grade. She knows POLS 207 is very boring so she makes class funny.
She is funny, tests are easy if you listen in class. Very clearly liberal however and teaches her course that way.
Only 23% of the class made an A, and she sure was bragging about easy her exams were on her post updates. In addition, she didnt even curve a 79.3 to an 80. Some might find this class easy, some might not, it all depends. I for one did not. Im not a good test taker, she only grades 4 exams, and shes biased. Overall, Stay away and find s/else.
She is super funny and makes her lectures fun! The exams are all easy, as long as you study her powerpoints and read the textbook, you're guaranteed an A. She speaks her mind, so if you get offended easily, take someone else. Then again, this is the real world and you should be able to appreciate differing opinions.
Lim has an interesting sense of humor but I honestly really enjoyed this class. She made lectures interesting and entertaining. Grades are based off of 4 tests. I found that reading the textbook helped a lot as well as attending class, but a lot of people got by by only doing one or the other. Its not a hard class but you do have to put effort
This class was an easy A. As long as you read the textbook and go to a few lectures, you will be fine. She is very opinionated and can be annoying, but the class was so easy I didn't mind. There are four tests, each worth 25% of your grade.
Dr Lim has a great sense of humor and makes a boring topic sound somewhat interesting. Attendance is not mandatory and grade is solely based on 4 exams. The exams are difficult but doable if you either show up to class or read the textbook. I managed to get an A without even purchasing the book, simply by showing up to class. No homework!!!
Lim is one of my favorite professors i've ever had at A&M, she is articulated, very non partisan on political issues, and her lectures are amazing. This class is a majority from the book but i went to class anyway because she made lecture so interesting. She's got a hilarious sense of humor which helps you remember things. Definitely read the book.
Alright. Lim is ok. Shes funny but aside from that her material is not about texas at all. Her class will feel like a waste of time but that could just be the course. She herself has a very distinct political view and will show you data that makes no sense and you have no clue where it came from. You have to memorize details for the exam. just no.
As long as you go over the lectures and know the graphs she posts, you don't even have to go to class very often. Read the book and you'll do even better. She's super funny and her lecture are definitely not boring, so that's a plus. Kinda weird about groupme though.
Phaik Lim is pretty funny, you don't have a final and you're only grades are four tests. People who do poor in this class are probably part the 60% of my class that never showed up to lectures. She sometimes quotes test questions so if you take good notes and bother to study a bit before your test you'll do fine.
Hard to understand her. She is hilarious but if you dont read the textbook and go to class you wont pass.
Honestly I never go to lectures. Read the textbook and take some notes and youll get an A
Lim is alright. Material isn't very interesting, but the lectures are alright. Be careful, Lim goes off on random tangents of stuff you don't need. I got a 95 by attending the lecture, taking solid notes, and making flashcards to study all the information. didn't read the textbook. She is very opinionated but does give an interesting perspective.
Professor Lim literally told us to drop her class on the 1st day (should've taken her advice). Her lectures were mainly vaguely related examples and cramming whole chapters into one day. There are only 4 tests so if you get a bad grade on one, there is almost no way to raise your average. If you want an A you MUST read the book and go to class.
Over all, this class was not terrible. The grades came from four tests each worth 25% of the overall grade. I read the assigned chapters for most of the tests, though if you attend class you will get a solid foundation for the tests. Professor Lim keeps it interesting with jokes, though if you are easily offended this prof is not for you.
She keeps lectures as interesting as she can, grade is made up of 4 tests only, read the textbook!! I got an A by reading a few nights before the tests and looking over my notes I took from lecture. Defiantly attend class as she gives tips on what to study for tests. There is no homework or assignments.
She's not a bad professor and her lectures are really funny for a subject as boring as POLS. Her exams aren't the easiest and you really need to study for the later exams to make sure you do well. No homework or final, and there are 4 exams each worth 25% of your grade, so if you do bad on one you're screwed.
Lim is an entertaining lecturer, does not take attendance, and can be offensive at times. The only grades are 4 exams. I got an A on the first 3 exams, but a C on the 4th exam. She will not curve and offers no extra credit. Go to lectures and read the chapters at least once. If you aren't a good test taker, avoid Lim. Her exams questions are tricky
She is a hilarious professor, but she is a terrible professor. This class is unbelievably hard for no reason and she is horrible about letting students know what is on the test. The only way to understand how bad the class is, is for you to take the class. Don't do it though, save yourself the massive head ache.
Dr. Lim is a funny professor, but her tests are pretty intense for a 200 level class. If you're not a good test taker, I would avoid her class. I got an A by attending a few classes and heavily relying on the textbook.
Lim was hilarious; the material was boring but she found ways to make it more interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but it really helps to go to class, especially if you aren't trying to read too much into the textbook. Wish I could take her for my next government class!
Pretty easy A if you just pay attention in class and read the textbook. I always study 3-4 days before the exams and do fine on them. The professor is hilarious as well, and I have fun listening to her lectures.
She's the funniest professor I have had. She is extremely opinionated (left side of the political spectrum), and has trouble withholding her political values in class. You really have to do well on the exams because you're only graded on 4 tests, no extra credit and no grade drops. 1/2 lecture 1/2 textbook oriented tests.
Dr. Lim is hands down the funniest professor I've ever had! Her constant jokes keep lectures entertaining. The grading for this class only consists of 4 test grades (non-cumulative), so look elsewhere if you rely on homework assignments to boost your grades. Tests are fairly easy if you come to class, read the the textbook, and review quizlets!
She's really funny. Take her for the experience if you're good at pols. The only reason I brought her down on rating was because she doesnt ever say anything abt the exams--barely mentions it. I just think shes so into the material she forgets were trying to get the grade. Hard A, easy pass.
Dr. Lim is probably the hardest POLS prof here simply because if you miss class, then you will miss valuable information and this class is based only on 4 exam grades so you cant really mess up. Despite the course difficulty she is by far one of the funniest and enjoyable prof here at TAMU. Take her if you want an amazing person to listen to!!!
Professor Lim was the Best! She is a very blunt and unique person. She really enjoys teaching and will say things in class to help you understand the material. Her tests were both from the book and her lectures. Pols can be boring but she definitely made it interesting.
This is a lecture heavy class. There are really no notes besides the one you take in class. Quizlet is very helpful. About 80% of the stuff is lectures/notes/quizlets. The rest is textbook.
I personally didn't care for the class but it really wasn't terrible. Lim tries and makes the lectures as interesting as possible and is always making jokes. The only grades are four tests. If you read the chapters from the book and study the quizlets online, you should do well!
Just show up to class and read the book the day before the test and you should be able to make an A. Lectures do get boring but the material is pretty straight forward.
No homework, only 4 tests that are all multiple choice, lectures can be boring most of the times but she makes the best of it cracking a joke here and there. As long as you read the book and pay attention in class you'll do fine. Her slides are all graphs/charts from the book.
Professor Lim is iconic at TAMU. Her lectures are hilarious and it helps you learn the material. Her tests are sort of difficult but if you read the textbook and take good notes during her lectures it should be an easy A.
Dr. Lim is the best! Shes really funny and makes class easy to understand. She is very liberal and open about it, so if youre not comfortable with that dont take her. The tests arent bad at all except for a few hard questions. Youll need to go to class and read the book to get an A.
Switched test format due to COVID so kinda got robbed of an A :( BUT, solid professor nonetheless. 207 is a dry class so Dr. Lim makes sure to crack jokes that help you get through the class. Can sometimes go on tangents but would still recommend. Only grades are 4 tests so make sure to pay attention.
No class was made harder because of Covid-19. No one was "robbed" of an A. She did switch the test format but she gave 10 bonus points on each exam if you did the extra credit and dropped the lowest exam grade. Extremely easy A if you read and show up to class. People just expect pols 207 to be a blow-off class because most profs treat it that way.
Dr. Lim gives good lectures with lots of useful information; showing up to class and carefully reading the book should be enough for most people to do well. The class is extremely test heavy which can be good or bad depending on how well you take tests, but the tests aren't unreasonably difficult. I learned a lot from this class and would take agai
Horrible. She sucks. So much.
Prof Lim genuinely has been working so hard to make our asynchronous lectures work. The semester started off a little rough bc of technical issues, but she made sure everyone was caught up. This class is test heavy, but in general the exams aren't too hard. Good choice for a pols class.
Dr. Lims class was one of the easiest classes I have taken here at A&M. Notes were pretty short and quizzes and tests are open book, it does help to read the book but if you don't look at it at all you should be able to still reach an A or a high B. Overall the class was super easy.
This professor had a really rough semester transitioning into online work but she remade her whole class organization twice for us. She gave us all ample time and made everything open note. I couldnt have asked for a more straight-forward class. The negative comments are people who dont understand asynchronous courses.
Absolutely incompetent. She could barely organize her own class enough to start teaching. She made countless errors on our quizzes and would only respond to emails with mass emails yelling at us because she couldn't own up to her own failures. She even tried to do this course without giving lectures and just posting notes. Laziest prof by far.
Dr. Lim was literally bullied all semester. She changed her class lay out 2 or 3 times to accommodate us. If you watch the lectures, you're golden. All the exams and quizzes are open note. I didn't even read the book but is used it/scanned through for the quizzes. This was her first time with async so the upload process was a little rough at first.
We had a rough start with online, but she took constructive criticism well and by the third quiz, everything was golden. Easy quizzes and exams if you watch lectures and skim the book. My fav prof this semester. Go to zoom reviews if you get the chance -- she's hilarious and so sweet. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. Don't listen to the bad reviews, she great!
I have depression and 1 time I had an episode which made me turn an paper late so I emailed asking if there was anyway Icould make it up. Shesaid no and gave me a 0. During evals a student rated her saying she was terrible n she ranted in an email saying that she has depression and this year has been so hard for her. Well me 2prof but thx for the 0
All the negative reviews are students just mad she didnt bump their grade. Her class was the most simple and easiest class ive taken ever. If you didnt get an A then its your fault for being lazy & doing nothing. One quiz a week that are OPEN NOTE (easy 100) & three exams no final. Shes truly an amazing teacher.
i understand that this is her first year teaching online and using canvas. it has been hard for everyone. instead of being like, okay this was not my year she sends a mass email to the class basically victim blaming herself because she saw a bad review on here. it was extremely inappropriate. i am sure she is great in person but online is not it.
Professor Lim is the sweetest professor I have ever had at A&M. She is so understanding and tests/quizzes are very easy. I did not get a single grade below a 90. Drops lowest quiz grade. Ignore the negative ratings, those are students who didn't pay attention to due dates and emails. Professor Lim is great, TAKE HER!
NICEST TEACHER I have ever had. The hate comments are the students who didnt do what was asked of them and or believed this class was gonna be a breeze. You have to put work in to get the grade you want. Dr Lim has been through a lot this semester, but did the best and is the sweetest and caring teacher at Texas A&M. TAKE HER ignore the negativity!
This was a weird semester...I think the professor let people get to her and as a result may have freaked out a bit. She is very nice and overall the class itself was good. I watched the lectures and took notes and got an A. Didn't even read the book. Just a weird year with lots of complaints and professor Lim didn't really know how to handle it.
We had about a week or two at the start of the semester where the proff was struggling with first time using canvas, but after that has been one of the easiest to reach ive ever had. If you put in the time to read the textbook and take notes in class its such an easy class, and the proff literally gets back to any questions within hours every time.
Dr. Lim was an incredibly accommodating professor, especially in an online learning environment. She gave us all of the resources we needed to succeed in her class -- if you put even a little work in, you will get an A. (Open note for everything.) I really wish I could've experienced her course in person, if you can take her, please do!
Do not listen to the negative reviews. She gave all the resources needed to get at least a B in the class easily. Her quizzes were straight from her lectures and her tests were straight from the textbook. It is also important to mentions that every test/quiz in this class was open-note. It's unfair to blame a professor for your own shortcomings.
Pretty easy class, and good professor. Quizzes and test are open note so its not hard at all.
This class took up probably an hour of my time a week. Lim posted powerpoints with a voiceover and as long as you listened and took notes, getting an A was easy. Anyone who complains about this prof is just looking for something to be upset about, this class was an easy A and she gave us plenty of resources to succeed.
To get a good grade all you had to do was listen to her lecture videos. I made As on all of the quizzes. This class was very easy, the people complaining did not put in any effort. Students were horrible to her. I really appreciate Dr. Lim and all sje did for this class this semester.
Everyone hated on her all semester, and yes there were times she was not the most organized and may have blamed it on us. It was a tough circumstance though, and she did not give up. Class was not hard as long as you just do your work. Lim is a great teacher who just got put in a bad situation this semester.
Shes great. She gives everything she can for the benefit and betterment of her students. Youll love her if youre a lazy student, youll love her if youre a hard working student. She goes out of her way to teach and get the lesson through. Idve loved to have taken her class in person.
She had a rough time teaching online but that was because students complained about anything they could. The class is easy. She gives a powerpoint lecture, you listen and take notes (30mins max) and then you take an easy quiz (open note) with an exam (open note) every 3-4 chapters. Easiest A ever. It's the same thing every week with minimal effort.
Take her! I wish I could have taken her 207 class in-person, but it wasn't offered for me. Also, please be nice to her, she gets lots of students that complain to her left and right, so please just email her for emergencies or to let her know she's doing a great job. If she seems "rude", it's because too many people complain to her for no reason.
She had technical difficulties at the beginning of the semester with transition to canvas but made sure to update us about changes to the course schedule. She was understanding about problems the students faced and offered help. The class is easy just make sure to read the book and the powerpoints she provides.
This class was very manageable if you make sure to stay on top of the lectures and take good notes. The only grades are quizzes (one per week) & 3 exams. I got over a 93 on all exams, so they arent bad. Everything is multiple choice. Many students tried to take advantage of her, which is why they complain about this class. Was asynchronous.
I felt very bad for her at the beginning of the semester as she had technical difficulties and annoying students that asked for extensions on everything. 1 quiz every week, 3 exams, no final. The structure of this class wavered slightly at the beginning, but once things had a solid posting day it was smooth sailing. Easy content if you listen.
My biggest problem is she let the students basically make all the decisions for her. She would say that she could/couldn't make decisions because of students "complaining". She would then send out mass emails to complain about those very students. She is a college professor and it's ridiculous she let students effect her and her class so much.
Very easy class with very little expectation. Lectures are short and workload is minimal. There were the typical freshman who were constantly complaining to her, which was irrelevant since we had one assignment a week. However, she is extremely unprofessional in composing herself when criticized, one bad comment and a mass email coming your way
Professor Lim had a rough start, but once she started pushing out the quizzes it starts going back to an orderly schedule. We had many students complain to her and take advantage of her lenience, hence the amount of emails she had to send out. If you did the bare minimum it is very hard not to get at least a B. Not to mention it was asynchronous.
Class was easy and the teacher was fun. Not much more to ask for.
Dr Lim clearly promises at the beginning of class that she does not want her class to be difficult; and she does a great job in keeping the promise. All activities are open note and lectures are interesting. She gives clear instructions on when quizzes and tests will be open and offers many opportunities to take them online outside of class.
Incredibly easy class. Honestly if you half some common sense you probably don't even need to show up to class or read the textbook. Quizzes and tests were open note to her power points. Just look at them and you'll be fine. If you do attend class though her lectures are really funny.
Prof Lim outlined everything in her syllabus! As long as you take notes and read the textbook before quizzes you will do well. No homework also is a plus! I found notes during lectures super helpful for quizzes and exams but not going won't necessarily kill your grade. Hands down best prof for pols 207 .
Overall a pretty easy class. Lectures can be pretty boring but she's got a good sense of humor.
Posts all lectures, so attendance is not mandatory. Lectures make up a majority of the content of quizzes and exams, so as long as you listen you should be fine. Tends to ramble but is a solid choice for POLS 207, which is required.
Dr. Lim is the professor you want to take for POLS 207. The work in her class is minimal compared to the other teachers, only requiring a quiz over every chapter which ends up being about once a week. All her graded work is open note and open book, and her lectures are straight from the book, so this becomes very easy. She is also pretty funny.
I ended with a 98 because I actually paid attention and took notes on lectures. Took notes from textbook for first test, but didn't after that. All her tests and quizzes were open notes, lecture slides, (and internet too, even though she doesn't say it). Pretty left leaning, but not bad; I was just there for the easy A! 1 hr/week out of class
Take notes and you'll do well in the class. She gives open-note tests and quizzes. Since she posts the notes, you don't need to show up for lectures to do well, but she can be funny during her lectures if you decide to show up.
She is probably the best professor to take for POLS 207. Minimal homework, quizzes and exams are all open note, taken at home. Some of the exam questions are not from the lectures. You do not even need to show up to class, all the classes are recorded.
She's kinda funny, lots of dirty jokes. I never went to class and still made an A, even without watching the recordings. It's a little harder if you don't watch them and just use the slides, but still pretty easy. If you watch the recordings you're golden.
This class is very interesting and can be completed with an A. You need to either attend class or listen to lectures, the textbook is somewhat helpful. Not much extra credit. Just show up and put in the work
Class was informative and not too hard. Professor is funny and explains concepts very well. I recommend this professor for POLS-207.
Dr. Lim is a solid choice for this course. Lectures aren't mandatory, but the majority of content on exams/tests come from the lectures, so if you don't attend, you probably won't past. You're only graded via tests and quizzes, but if you were awake during class and can read your notes (open-note exams), they're fairly easy to get an A on.
Dr Lim is a solid choice if you plan on actually learning the material. She only does exams and quizzes, so understanding the concepts is the only way to receive an A. I really enjoyed her lectures, she added jokes and was a funny person overall. Be ready to take really accurate notes though, most questions on exams are word-for-word from lecture.
Probably the easiest class I have taken at A&M yet. Super straightforward: only grades are quizzes and tests. While I did not attend class, I still found the exams very easy because most of the content is in the textbook, you just have to find it which can get difficult under time contraints. Overall, really nice professor and a very easy class.
I loved Dr. Lim's class and would recommend it to anyone! The class is well-structured, and quizzes and tests are open note and closely aligned with the lectures. She's super funny and entertaining, and I felt like I learned a lot from this class.
She's a very funny, engaging lecturer despite the boring topics. Literally every single thing on the quizzes was covered in class, and tests were no different. Very easy A if you simply paid attention and wrote down a few notes.
Phaik is awesome. Her class is just a bunch of powerpoints and quizzes and really easy. Just take her to get the credit out of the way
Her lectures will definitely keep you awake. Dont need to read the book to succeed
She made the class harder this semester after seeing all the easy reviews. She is unorganized and her exams are very very detailed, sometimes you'll find an answer in the textbook but you'll still get it wrong. The positives are that theres no final and she is funny. class is not mandatory and she records all lectures
I absolutely loved Dr. Lim. She is super passionate and very funny and really knows her stuff. If you're into PoliSci at all, take this class. Very easy
This professor had previously good reviews but openly conveyed that her grades from previous semesters were too high and intentionally made the class harder to have a lower average. Her tests are based on material never mentioned in class, and whether or not the online tests and quizzes will be proctored or not; is a guessing game.
Well well well, very bad grading scale. Test are just questions she makes up for fun. Barely any resources for test material. Class is hard to pay attention to. Pretends lecture is comedy stage. No extra credit or curves. Test are bad.
She has made her class harder after hearing about how "easy" her class was before. Nothing will prepare you for the exams, she includes questions that aren't even in the textbook. Her class is more of a statistics about government course. Only positive thing is that she's funny and posts the lectures online.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. She complained about the number of high A's she had the previous semester so intentionally made this semester nearly impossible. Going to lecture does not help as all she does is name off statistics and acts like she is a comedian. I took this class because I needed a POLS credit and now it is tanking my gpa.
I have 0 idea why there are any reviews complaining about the difficulty of the class; There is almost no portion of the class which I could call difficult to any degree. Tune out the noise and take her, she's very fun and understanding, and if you can read a line graph you should be fine lol
I don't get why there are negative comments about Dr. Lim. She said she made the class harder, but it has been easy for me. The quizzes and exams are open note, but proctored by Respondus Lockdown. You have to attend class or watch the lectures because majority of the exam questions come from her lectures. I haven't read the book either!
Dr. Lim was a great prof. Her lectures correlated with the tests. The class wasn't that much work outside of class. It was mainly tests with chapter quizzes. She is really funny, and she does record lectures so if you miss a day here and there you can easily make it up.
This class is probably slightly more difficult than most other intro levels, but it's not impossible if you're an average test taker. The test grades make up your entire course grade, so they can be daunting, but reading and attending lectures will go a really long way -- there aren't very many curveballs on the tests.
A state-required class should not be this difficult! You might as well be good at guessing on tests because most questions she does not go over in class and are not addressed in the textbook. I took this professor because she had good ratings...IGNORE THOSE!! All you will see is your GPA tank because of the lack of filler grades and no final exam.
Absolutely awful!! This professor cannot teach well at all!! Her tests are open note, but nearly impossible. She does not cover the majority of the content presented on the tests and they are not covered in the textbook. Studying does about nothing for you and she does not curve tests. There are also very little filler grades!!!
DO NOT TAKE HER. And don't listen to any reviews before the Spring semester of 2022. She's super petty and our whole grade is dependent on the exams literally. I've passed every exam and made a 90+ on two of them and barely have an A. Just don't take her.
shes terrible. at the beginning of class, she said she was going to make this class even harder and took it as a challenge from previous students who said she was easy. tests are worth 75%, its better to go with a prof who assigns a lot of hw because itll bump the grade higher for the test grade than just the quizzes she assigns. not worth it.
Dr. Lim clearly stated her expectations for class which consisted of weekly online quizzes, 3 OPEN BOOK online exams, and 3 side assignments that took barely any effort. Her lectures are engaging and she even posts her recordings online to review. I really enjoyed her lectures; she's hilarious and very fair. Would definitely take again.
Class was easy and low effort. All work/exams were open book & based on common sense/simple statistics. She is funny & smart, but doesn't communicate well w/ students so a many people are mad. Doesn't change that this class is a good one. TLDR: Don't listen to the petty ratings that are just mad that they didn't put in effort or agree politically.
Solid professor. Every quiz and test is open note - 2 tries on quizzes. I rarely went to class and still got an A, she posts all of her lectures online. She is very funny and interactive with the class during lectures. Some exam questions seemed to come out of nowhere, but still, it's open note, not difficult, and bad reviews are overexaggerating.
Your grade comes from 10 quizzes and 3 tests that are online and open book. So, if you are good under pressure (short time limits) and can use control F in the text book then it is great because you won't have to do hw. All the lectures are posted so I never went to class. I watched the lectures at 2x speed before the quiz/test and it was easy.
I have never been the person who likes learning about history or government, but Dr. Lim's lectures are funny and interesting. There are quizzes over each chapter and then 3 exams. The exams are not comprehensive, so there isn't really a final. There are 3 or so writing assignments that are just a paragraph. Her lectures are very informative!
Dr. Lim is an incredible professor for POLS 207! I wouldn't consider myself good at government courses but Dr. Lim made learning about State & Local Government much more enjoyable. She is passionate about the materials she lectures about and the course may be lecture heavy but the lectures are so enjoyable that you wouldn't mind that.
As you can likely tell the ratings for Dr.Lim are either 1's or 5's. She's extremely passionate and a good lecturer who will not put you to sleep like so many other professors. Many of the people who hate her will disagree with her politically or be upset at their zero effort grade. She's new to the online format but still goes above others.
Professor Lim can be strict, but only when students provoke her. Professor Lim always provided ample time for assignments, sometimes even reminding us 10+ times for due dates. Your grade is based on 3 exams (25% each) 10 quizzes (1.6% each) and 3 required core assessments (3% each). This class was fun and I do recommend her for POLS 207.
Incredibly inconsiderate to her students. Inconsistent rules on quizzes and exams. Petty comments every five minutes during lecture. Turns you against your own classmates in extremely unfair situations. Ridiculously unprofessional, manipulative, and rude. Oh and that "comedy" of hers that you hear about, it isn't funny.
Professor Lim is not a great teacher. She is really inconsiderate of her students and is a little rude. The tests are straight from lecture so it is a little hard. She uses lockdown browser with camera for every quiz/ test. She can be unfair at times, I would avoid taking her class if you can
Professor Lim was a great professor. She made all of her expectations very clear. Getting an A was easily attainable, just go to lecture or watch the recordings. Many people call her inconsiderate or rude, but she actually was very considerate of the students' opinions.
If possible take another prof her attitude alone is enough to discourage students. She covers it up saying it's humor but comes off rude and arrogant in emails. If you aren't willing to take good notes in lecture or watching recording do not take her. Tests will have questions on a comment she made once in lecture.
Dr. Lim is by far the easiest POLS professor to take. She is extremely left-leaning, but her grading is not biased whatsoever. Exams and quizzes are open note, and all the answers can be found in either the book or PowerPoint. I think I only went to lecture 3 times, and I got an A in this course. She's kind of rude if something goes wrong though.
Chapter quizzes and exams, she posts lecture recording, slides are mostly charts and graphs so watching lectures is pretty necessary
Literally NO homework but the class is made up of only 3 exams. If you mess up on one of them, you have to try really hard for the next one. The test are online (respondus lockdown), but you can take them at home and it is open note. Most of the answers for the test come from her lectures and barely any are found on quizlet or online.
I think Professor Lim was a great prof but her tests were much more difficult than what she taught in class (or maybe I'm just not good with polisci). The tests were quite specific while her lectures seemed like common sense. I took many notes in the class but I think the textbook and powerpoints helped a lot more.
Only reason she got a 2: class was ridiculously easy. Everything was open book (a short PDF) and I got an A without studying. The whole class is her VERY biased, made-up, socialist explanations for statistics, awkward attempts at matchmaking, and lots of her bashing Texas. I chose not to attend lectures instead of putting up with it.
Professor Lim was the funniest professor I have ever had. I usually hate polisci lectures bc they feel basic and boring. Professor Lim was hilarious and her lectures helped a lot. I will say I do not know how I got a B because I do not actually know what I learned in this course. Her tests were very easy and open note.
really fun, engaging lectures
Her lectures help with literally nothing. The tests are so specific that you have to know each chapter very well in order to do well on the test. Every single test and quiz you take is closed note. Don't recommend taking this class with her unless you want to read almost 100 pages out of the textbook and still do poorly on the test.
The tests and quizzes are closed note. the lectures are easy, but genuinely do not help with the tests and quizzes. This class is also only made up of 3 exams and several quizzes, so it is harder to get your grade up. This professor claims to not show her stance, but does in almost every topic and gives false information.
None of her things are open note anymore. Her test questions are so specific and lecture based. If you miss class, the powerpoints are very basic and do not help.
Her lectures are entertaining, but that's where the good stops. You have to pick out the actually important info from her rambling about her opinions on social topics and Texas in general. If you can do that, you will be decently prepared for exams and quizzes. She no longer has open note exams, but has open note quizzes.
Professor Lim is hilarious during lecture, but she is definitely strongly opinionated! She definitely enjoys bashing Texas and the US in general. But, if you don't get offended too easily it won't be a big deal at all. Quizzes are open note and super easy, but definitely study a little for the exams and you should be fine! Overall not a hard course
Only grades were 3 exams worth 75% of your grade and a quiz after every chapter but they are worth BARELY anything. Exams come from her lecture and some from the book but they are from the practice questions. If you are a good guesser and can pick out what you need from the rambling she does in lecture you should be okay.
Worst professor I've ever had. Super rude when you ask for help, bashes and hates Texas, only teaches what revolves around her opinion, can rant the entire class about how much she hates this and that, you have to pick out what you want from her lecture with all her venting and hope that's whats on the exam. Spare yourself the worst class ever.
She is hilarious and definitely made learning political science a lot more entertaining. She has textbook, but mostly elaborates off her slide points, so going to lectures are highly encouraged.
Dr. Lim is a great professor; her lectures were always entertaining and her quizzes were open-book. One thing to be aware of is that her grading is 25% quizzes and 75% exams, so if you're not a confident test taker this might not be the professor for you.
Has good lectures and doesn't have any homework. At first didn't do open note quizzes but changed it about halfway through the semester. Lectures are pretty funny and will help you remember info for the test. Test are super easy if you study just have to pay attention on the questions cause will change small things.
Dr. Lim makes POLS so easy, because so much of it is common sense. Even though most of the questions could be answered from memory, she still makes quizzes open note.
Her lecture notes provide no info so you need to come to class. However, she won't even stay on topic for 5 minutes before rambling on about something way out of left field. You really need to pay attention because it's just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. As a STEM major I was hoping this class would provide an easy A but with Lim that's not the case.
Horrible Professor. Lecture not helpful. no curve. Tests are extremely difficult and sometimes cover material not specified or taught in lectures. Only 11 quizzes and 3 tests make up final grade with tests being 75% of final grade. Harder than any math courses I've taken at TAMU because it's impossible to know what material you will be tested over.
I personally liked her as a professor though I know many didn't in large part to there being zero homework for the class. There were 11 open note quizzes with the lowest grade being dropped at the end of the semester, 3 multiple choice only tests, and no final as the only grades. Each test was worth 25 points and each quiz was worth 2.5 points.
This is not even a Texas government class, you will be learning about the governments of other states. Lim is hilarious, but u will learn nothing. Read the textbook and still saw foreign material on the exams. Teaching style includes ranting, hating on TX, and one worded slides. Sort of helpful outside of class. Save yourself choose someone else.
DO NOT TAKE!!!! Prof Lim makes it seem like you're the reason you're not doing well in the class, yet litters the test with trick questions meant to fail you. She is constantly changing how the quizzes will be administered, how many attempts you have, and when they'll be open. There are 10 quizzes and 3 exams in this class, no final.
Worst Professor ever
Dr. Lim is very funny but also strict with her teaching style. My only issue with the class were that grades were only based on quizzes and tests, but if you study for those and read the textbook they aren't difficult. Her political views are controversial for some but if you look past that, it's an easy class.
Wouldn't recommend this professor if you're not a good test taker or have a heavy course load. Professor Lim is funny and makes lectures interesting but they're very scattered which makes it hard to follow. Her lecture slides are extremely vague so if you miss a class, you will be completely lost. Grade only based on 10 quizzes and 3 exams.
Dr. Lim is a good person but the class isn't set up in the best way. The grades are just from quizzes and 3 exams. I found the exams to be difficult even though I would do really well on all the quizzes. In order to get an A for this class it requires a lot of studying and extra knowledge outside what's said in the lectures.
Dr. Lim is a great choice for POLS207. Not only is she clearly very knowlegable, but her often hilarious lecturing keeps the topics engaging. While she is very liberal, I was unbothered as a Christian student, she maintained much less bias than others note below.
Awful. NOTHING on the exams was taught in lecture, which sucks especially when 75% of your grade is 3 exams. I studied for WEEKS leading up to each one and never managed to get an A. Your effort will not reflect your grade as she purposefully makes all of her exams tricky so "students can actually learn the material." TAKE ROBYLER INSTEAD!
Lim is awful. The whole class rides on 3 tests worth 75%. However, what you study won't even be on this test. The tests are full of trick questions, answers all worded so similarly its down to semantics, and outside material. Her lectures are FULL of off topic rambling about her opinions and trying to be funny. 4 stars is a lie. Avoid if STEM.
Professor Lim is great, she is not a boring professor to listen to, which is crucial since the entirety of her tests are based on her lectures. 3 tests and 11 quizzes, all easy if you can use common sense and attend her lectures - I never had to read the textbook once and made a A with only studying the day of each test.
No homework, easy open-note quizzes, funny lectures. But don't be deceived, the only way to study for exams is to read the textbook, which is around 60 pages of material per exam. Lectures will only cover half of the exam problems, the other half will be random bits of the textbook. If you enjoy reading the material, you'll do good.
Don't take her unless you are a good test taker. Her class is 10 open note quizzes (25% of your grade) and 3 closed note exams (75% of your grade). Exams are not like her lectures or the quizzes, please look into other professors because this class should be an easy A.
There's no homework but each exam is with 25% of your grade. Quizzes are all open note and exams are easy if you read the textbook and pay attention to lectures. I recommend if you have good study habits and are a good test taker. Easy class overall.
Lim is okay as a pols prof, better than some of the others since her tests are not that hard but they do pull from random things she says in lecture so if you don't go every time you won't do that good. the quizzes are super easy and can be done anywhere, you have to be in person for exams.. she will lock you in the room... I did not enjoy that
To be completely honest: not a lot of people like her because her exams were via lockdown browser and she is liberal leaning. Politics aside, she knows what she's talking about, is funny at times, and through practice her assessments become easier. If you are a confident test taker and hate busy work, choose this class. I enjoyed the class overall.
Does not care about the students. Does not want good grades for any students. Tests were completely random, I studied the books and her lectures and still was hit with random questions. Would turn back time just to drop this class, please take anyone else!
She is a decent professor, but her exams are not rly based on what she teaches. The exams require you to know a lot of facts and are not conceptual. 3 exams are 75% of your grade and 10 quizzes are worth 25%. She rambles a lot in lectures, so you have to pay attention and figure out what is useful. Don't take this class if you are a bad test taker.
very good and entertaining teacher, but she tends to ramble in lecture. class is made up of 3 proctored online exams (75%) and 11 online open note quizzes w/ 1 dropped (25%) and no final. there is a provided textbook, and exams usually had material that wasn't explicitly covered in class/textbook. no extra credit and no makeup assignments.
I did not like this class at all. All test questions would come straight from the textbook. Class was strictly lectures where she would go off on tangents. She is very biased and clearly liberal, which made listening to lectures very hard sometimes. If you read the textbook and go over quizlets you'll do fine.
Pros: I don't care about the slander, she is the funniest prof ever. Makes my day so much more fun. You cannot sleep in her class because it is so entertaining. However, she is opinionated and has some hot takes. All of the quiz and test material is from lectures, not textbook. You have to go to lectures to do well. Barely any homework.
Very funny prof, probably the best imo for this class. I feel like she has become very paranoid about cheating, which is kinda annoying for regular students when she obsessed about it and accuses people randomly, but by the end of the semester she had chilled a bit
Professor Lim would make political jokes in class and jokes that were pretty offensive. She was funny sometimes but her lectures were really boring. Slides she provides are mainly bullet points and graphs that she lectures about so you would need to go to class. Exams were very difficult, online and in person. Quiz every week and it was difficult.
Grades were made up of only 3 online exams worth 75% and 11 online quizzes worth 25% and she drops one. Study the graphs and go to lectures as she pulls test questions from lectures. The SI leader really helped review for exams and quizzes. Her lectures are interesting, and she goes on rants. She rounded my 76 to a B :)
If you have common sense and attend all her lectures and take notes on what she says, it's an easy. She often makes fun/sexist jokes which is honestly uncomfortable. That type of humor should be allowed at a comedy club, but not an academic setting. Also her last exam was very hard, I usually got As on other exams but last one I got a C.
She was funny during lectures, but she gave zero extra credit opportunities as your grade is only based off of 3 exams. I hated this class as I've never enjoyed pols/gov classes, but not once have I ever done this bad in a class like that! I attended all classes and even read the textbook, but nothing helped. Please choose someone else I'm begging.
Sometimes she derails into political rants during lecture, still a fun time though. She provides you with the "textbook" but you do just fine without it if you attend lecture. She basically sums up the textbook during lecture. Your grade is made up of quizzes and exams, they're easy if you paid attention in class - I never studied and got As.
This was the worst class I have ever taken at TAMU. Do not, I repeat DO NOT take this class with Lim. Her lectures were all over the place and the notes you did take in class did not help. The class is made up of quizzes and 3 exams only. God Speed to anyone who has to sit in Blocker with Lim.
I loved the class! My advice is read the textbook. Every thing is in there. I would honestly do nothing but procrastinate until the night of an exam and my saving grace was reading the textbook. And quizzes are open note! It was my favorite class but of course everyone everyone learns differently, so take one day at a time. You'll do great!
EVERYTHING depends on your exam scores. The content is simple, but the notes aren't very helpful. Go to lecture & use common sense! I would recommend getting a different prof bc it might be easier to get an A with a different professor, also look at quizlets for the quizzes and try keeping your quiz average as close to perfect as possible.
Dr. Lim would go off-topic frequently. The overall grade in this course is based on 3 online, in-person exams which take up 75% of your grade. She didn't give extra credit for the exams and the only way to make As on the exams was by thoroughly reading the textbooks and graphs. Look for quizlets, they helped me prepare for my exams and quizzes
Professor Lim was the greatest professor for 207! A very caring teacher, with great/memorable lectures, and the information was taught very clearly and well. ATTEND ALL CLASSES AND GO TO OFFICE HOURS! She is a very approachable teacher who is always willing to help. Try in the class and you will have success, she knows who is there and who's not.
I had mixed feelings. She was funny and I enjoyed her class, but her tests were a bit odd. I disputed some questions with her and she basically said I was right but she was too stubborn to change the answer. I don't get the ppl saying read the book, I rarely did and learned what I needed from lecture. Good choice if confident in POLS due to no HW.
Professor Lim was a very funny prof and her class was always entertaining. However, your grade comprises of only three exams and quizzes, accounting for only a small portion of your grade. Her notes were not helpful at all, but there was no homework. Overall, I would not recommend taking her if you are trying to receive an easy A.
She's super funny and out of pocket when it comes to teaching this class, if you get easily offended don't take it. You have to go to class as her test are lectured based and she changed it from being online and at home to being in person during class. 3 tests & 11 quizzes (she drops one), its not a hard class just show up and take notes!
Her lectures were extremely boring and she got off topic very often. Questions on her test were very obscure, and could come from something she barely mentioned in class, she also included questions only mentioned in the textbook, but didn't tell us specific sections we should read to help us. Grade is entirely based off tests/quizzes.
Lim's lectures were hilarious and she taught in a very engaging manner. She is super funny, which definitely helped me remember the content. I would definitely recommend going to class, it will be hard to pass without hearing the lectures, but very doable if you show up.
Great Professor. She only gives quizzes after each chapter (no homework or exams). There's an optional final that will drop your lowest quiz grades and she's willing to help you with it if you ask. I recommend going to her lectures bc a lot of the content on the quizzes is based on what was said in class. I also suggest reading the textbook
Lim gets a bad rep, but in reality she was great for 207. She does not care about majority opinions and speaks her mind. There is a quiz after every chapter but its open printed notes. Optional final too of an infographic project. You could honestly skip almost every lecture. Loved her would recommend.
She makes the lectures very funny and interesting. This class consisted of 11 open note quizzes and an option final. It is very easy to get an A if you organize your notes correctly. Though attendance isn't required, the quizzes are heavily depending on her lectures.
Not a terrible professor but definitely not great. The class itself was not hard for me, but I had covered most of what she taught previously. My problems were her quizzes and bias. Oftentimes quizzes would cover material not taught in class or in the book (which you could print for quizzes). She was clearly liberal which was irritating in class.
Lim has little to no communication skills. She is NOT helpful at all when it comes to responding to questions and clarifying her statements. Her emails are extremely unprofessional and need to be decoding to extract any information due to horrible grammar. If you have any questions, she will be of no help to you.
Professor Lim was a horrible communicator. She never gave clear help or tips to get better, and just antagonized you. Very unprofessional online and in-person, it seemed that if you made one "bad" impression, she holds it against you. Grade is based on 11 quizzes (lecture heavy) and an optional final (inforgraph, but she is very hard to impress).
Lim is... a personality. and not in a good way. the course itself was very easy but her disposition and interactions w students was terrible.
I loved her!! Apparently, last semester she was doing actual exams that were impossible, but she changed that up, and now we were only graded on 11 open note quizzes as well as an optional final project. She's hilarious and very passionate about what she's teaching.
There were 11 quizzes which were open note, and they were easy if you go to class and take good notes. Reading the textbook also really helps. Her lectures are really funny and she always cracks a lot of jokes.
Really funny, no final just a quiz every week extra credit at the end of the year to drop some of ur lowest quiz grades lectures arent that useful so make sure to use the charts/graphs from the textbook tbh just read the textbook
Professor Lim is actually a pretty good teacher. She incorporates stories that help you remember the concepts and tries to engage the class. There are sometimes it is difficult to understand every word she says but you can understand what you need to. Not a ton of grades just quizzes so read the textbook along with listening to the lectures:)
Dr. Lim is very funny and in general does a decent job lecturing. The entire grade was composed of 11 open note quizzes and an optional final which replaced the lowest 3 quiz grades, so easy to do well. POLS 207 is a very easy, common sense based class. Only complaint is that some of the quiz questions would be poorly written or didn't make sense.
Dr. Lim is hilarious. History-type classes normally bore me but I was consistently engaged. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss class, you'll miss important information for the quizzes (also read the textbook). There are 11 quizzes--one is dropped--and my class had an optional extra credit assignment. I would definitely recommend!
She changes the way she teaches the class every semester. When I took it, the class was simply ten quizzes that were all open note and in-person. All you need to do to get an A is read the textbook and print out the notes she gives you for the quizzes as she asks about diagrams and relationships not given in the questions on the quizzes.
Awful professor overall. Gave zero classwork besides weekly quizzes that have nothing to do with her lecture slides. Lecture slides were horrible and gave zero context to the figures provided in them. Took forever to grade assignments and used outdated methods. Gave optional infographic to replace low quiz grades but provided no grading criteria.
11 quizzes make up your total grade with optional final, forces you to study weekly/bi-weekly. Great lecturer. Need to study for quizzes. If u r decently smart and only attend lectures and study the slides, expect to make 80s on the quizzes. If you read the textbook and take notes in addition, expect to make 90-100s. Did both. Either way, take Lim!
Lectures are uncomfortable at times with jokes made by this professor. The rubric for our final project was laughable at how vague it was, just a few sentences. She was passive aggressive telling us to wait for grades because so many people had done the assignment to replace quiz scores. Many students reported her to the dean as well
I really liked the way Dr. Lim structured the course. It consisted of a bunch of weekly quizzes, 11 to be exact, which make up your entire grade, with the lowest score being dropped. No homework, no exams. The textbook is fairly enjoyable to read. Dr. Lim is fairly funny in class, and this is one course that I recommend to everyone
She is so brat summer-coded. Super funny. She ate down. I would kill to have a gossip session with her. Amazing teacher.
Professor Lim's class is quiz-heavy but doable if you stay on top of the readings. The textbook is decent, and using unstuckstudy ai alongside it can really help with quiz prep. Lectures are hit-or-miss, but the grading is fair overall.
The textbook used was good yet had a lot of errors. Aside from the errors in the textbook, the class was pretty good. Very quiz-heavy and the lectures were always fun to go to. Dr. Lim is very funny. Overall, POLS207 was a good class with her.
Quizzes are a little tricky but overall class is pretty easy and no homework or tests.
A good proffesor. She's very blunt and can crack some good jokes, which I personally appreciate. Most of the grades in her class come from weekly quizzes, so it's important to stay on top of the material. Warning: If you can't be mature and get upset/disrespetcful when someone has a different political view, this is not the professor for you.
She isnt great at communication, I scheduled a makeup for wednesday a week in advance, she moved it to Tuesday the monday before during a time when i had class via canvas notification. The class itself is easy and if you have a brain you should get an A.
Dr. Lim's class is easy to take to get your POLS credit out of the way. There are weekly quizzes that makeup 100% of your grade and then 6 extra points from mandatory assignments. The quizzes are mostly based on her lecture and slides. Attendance is not mandatory, but it does help with the quizzes. Overall, it is a very easy class!
I had professor Lim for POLS 207 this semester and it went very well for me. There are no exams in this course, so we have a quiz about every other week. The quizzes are open note (printed or written), so if you take good notes and review the material before the quiz that day you will be fine.
ms.lim is lectures and textbook are left leaning. the class itself is entertaining and if you are left leaning, you'll enjoy it, but if you want to learn the subject, you'd need to learn from a politically neutral source. the quizzes require alot of reading, to pass, you need to attend class to get an A (technically). this class isn't an easy 100
She is hard to communicate with and can come off as sort of rude. Hard to understand what she wants sometimes, and rubrics are hard to follow. She is very funny, though. Gives extra credit.
grades are based on 11 quizzes. lowest quiz is dropped and there is extra credit available. the key to succeeding is ATTENDING LECTURE; for at least the first 7 quizzes you can take only lecture notes and get 90+ on quizzes. after, take txtbook notes. overall minimal workload! you will get an a if you just go to lecture.
The class was not that tough, but you do need to do weekly chapter readings(boring and with many typos) and go to her lectures in order to do well on the quizzes. There are no exams or finals, instead, the grades are comprised of 11 quizzes and three core assessments that you can choose to complete to get six extra points added.
Class is mainly graded by 11, 20-question quizzes, but the lowest quiz grade is dropped at the end of the year, along with an optional final to replace 2. The professor is very political and clearly shows it during lectures, but if you're mature enough to look past that, you'll find her lectures very enjoyable.
She doesn't give any homework, and the entire class grade is based on 11 quizzes (all open note/open book), with one drop. There is also an optional final to replace the two lowest quizzes, and 6% of bonus points. The textbook can be difficult to read, but it is free.
Overall not a very good professor. Doesn't seem to really care about her students and draws out lectures for seemingly no reason. However, the class is easy and does not take up much time in general. She is also willing to give some extra credit if you find yourself struggling in this class somehow.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She's genuinely the worst professor I have ever had, she doesn't care about her students. Her lectures are so off-topic and sometimes uncomfortable. Also she does NOT round grades, I had an 89.95 and she said that in her syllabus it says that if anyone asks for her to round grades up, she would round it down one point.
I stopped going to lectures (only showed up for weekly quizzes), but she seemed funny the first 2 weeks. Honestly, print the textbook and slides. That's all the quizzes are, it's not hard plus she has the optional final project (infographic) that replaces 2 quizzes and she drops one quiz grade. If you do bad in her class, that's your fault...
If you try in her class, you will be fine. Everyone I talk to that attends lectures did perfectly fine without studying outside of class. Dr. Lim is very funny and brings up interesting ideas in her lectures that I enjoyed, even as a STEM major. I loved her class very much and would sit in it again if I could.
She wasn't helpful. Grades are just quizzes that are open note/book and lowest is dropped. Attendance isn't mandatory. She likes to ramble but it was kind of funny. 3 easy assignments adds 2 percent each. Infographic replaces two lowest grades, so you can bring your grade up. She is unclear in her emails so asking her questions is very difficult.
TAKE LIM. This class is really easy and is an easy way to get a good grade. Lim's lectures are very boring but in the end its still easy. the course is 11 quizzes with the lowest being dropped. if you do a project at the end the next two lowest can be dropped and there is 6 pts of extra credit. quizzes are open notes and open book so super easy.
No homework, 11 chapter quizzes (lowest dropped), 3 core assignments (basically completion grade essays, +2% to the total grade per assignment). 20 questions per quiz, open paper/print notes (lockdown browser). Amazing lectures with a statistics based approach to political science. Easy A if you can do basic statistics and pay attention in lectures
Her lectures are a bit narrow-minded in my opinion. If you took us history II before, you should be able to do decent on the quizzes without going to class. Towards the end of the semester, she was very confrontational about the optional project final which discouraged me from doing it.
Dr. Lim's lectures were entertaining but she rambles a lot and is a bit narrowminded. She gets irritated by questions. Quizzes are weekly, open-note, online, and account for the entire course grade, but were mostly straight from the book. The lectures didn't cover much content on quizzes. No homework; extra credit added 6 pts to my final grade.
Cant understand her. She basically yaps for an hour and then gives you a quiz over things she didn't even talk about... You also ONLY get graded on these quizzes and they are timed. I Q-dropped
Not bad at all, lowest quiz got dropped and they were all open note. Make sure you bring all the notes for your quiz because questions specifically refer to data that you wouldn't be able to remember which is why it is open note. The CAA also boost your grade, at times you do have a quiz every week but to me that is better than tests
This class was so free. No exams, no homework (although she's allegedly adding Packback). 11 open-note quizzes (just have to print out your notes/textbook), and the lowest quiz gets dropped. Textbook is uploaded as a pdf on canvas. She lets you attend any of the three sessions as long as there isn't a quiz. She is really funny / out of pocket too
Her entire grade is 11 quizzes, the lowest of which gets dropped. There is an optional final that can replace the two lowest grades, on top of the lowest one that gets dropped. She was pretty funny at times. Make sure to read the online textbook before each quiz and you should be fine.
go to lectures if u want to do well in this class, although a lot of people don't go to lectures I think that helped me the best, and try to write down anything you find important bc the quizzes are very specific. i also found the textbooks helpful even if some ppl did well without them. the lectures kind of go all over the place but she's funny
Make sure to go to lectures and take notes. She's a very entertaining lecturer. I reccomend printing out/opening the chapter slides on an iPad before class and taking notes on there. Super useful because quizzes (the only grades in the class) are open note. Overall just a super fun lecturer with a very weird grading style.
idc what anyone says Lim was a great professor; her lectures were interesting and funny, and the only assignments we had were 11 open-note quizzes. The quizzes are pretty easy, but I recommend you def read the corresponding chapter in the textbook she gives you, bc she pulls a few questions from it of topics she doesn't fully cover in class.
People who don't like her are haters. 11 open note quizzes, a few extra credit things, no final. Just take notes in lectures, skim the textbook chap, then print it and your notes for the quiz. People who fail this course are gonna really struggle in future classes. Just put in like 15% effort and you're good.
Extremely rude and hard to understand. She rambles during class about unrelated things. Her few assignments and open-note exams try to make up for her uselessness in the classroom and her poor attitude. If you take this professor, be ready to learn the material independently.
There's only 11 open note quizzes graded in her class and make sure to write down every single detail she says in class or you'll fail. The slides and the book aren't enough for you to do well on the quizzes so make sure you actively listen and take notes in class.
Dr. Lim is funny people who don't like her are just super sensitive. Her lectures are long but funny, take notes and you will get an A easy. She now has 4 exams, ALL OPEN NOTES. If you don't get at least a high B in this class it is your own fault. She is blunt but not mean. I would take her for POLS 207 over and over again if I had to. Take her!
I love her lectures. They were so funny and entertaining. She can be a little cut-throat and straightforward but overall, a pretty good prof. Weekly quizzes and the final was an infographic. She lets you get a cheatsheet.
only 4 exams, all open note. an infographic can replace ur lowest exam grade but she approves ur topic before accepting it. she uploads slides but exams are lecture based. u can only fail the class if u don't go to class.
She posts the slides online but most of the quiz content comes from her lectures so I'd definetley recommend attending class. She lets everything that counts for a grade be open note and offers opportunity for extra credit. Additionally, her lectures are super funny and easy to understand. Had a great time in her class!
The most engaging lecturer I've had, she is very blunt and to the point. While the lectures are important for tests, the chapters are much more helpful. DON'T TAKE THIS IF YOU'RE A BAD TEST TAKER.
Dr Lim is SO funny. Her lectures are super engaging and she's an excellent speaker. Her tests are the only assignment she really has in the class. They're not too bad as long as you take good notes, but you MUST take good notes to do well. The best advice is to write notes, rewrite slides, and add her images to your notes.
Very funny. Could use your notes for the quizzes, which were pretty easy.
I don't even know what I have in the class because she does not know how to use canvas. Her exams are difficult, you will not know if the test is more textbook oriented or lecture oriented until you see the exam in front of you. Open note exams, but I could personally never figure out what she was actually testing on. Honestly... very bad.
Let's just say, she ain't it. Yes, all 4 exams are open notes. She gives you a chance to replace your lowest with an Infographic (THANK GOODNESS). Even with 30+ pages of printed notes, the majority is not even on the exam to be fair. I say this with laughter because I do think she has quirky jokes, but I did not enjoy this class one bit.
It is four test, evenly weighted and open note. She gives you the option to do to extra assignments to add up to four points on top of your grade. If you go to class, the tests are so easy it hurts and sometimes she cracks some jokes in class which makes it fun.
Switched from an 11-quiz format to a 4-exam format. If you pay attention and take notes on the packet during class, an easy A, especially if you are familiar with politics. She is liberal, so if that bothers you, you should take someone else. Her early lectures were interesting, but got boring later on.
Got an A. It was kinda difficult. I am not sure if it is because the class is actually difficult or if it is just so entirely boring that I could not pay attention. She is funny, a liberal, very opinionated. I do not really know how people are saying the exams are easy, they are open note but often very randomized. A lot of boring readings.
4 MC exams at 25 percent each, open note. imma be honest im an engr major and needed this class for credit and it was a perfect fit for me lol. her lectures are funny, and the content on the exams is pretty explicitly covered in her exams. I was pretty bad at attending/taking notes but still got by just fine using her slides.
Pay attention in class and write down statistics/relationships shown in graphs. She wants you to understand the information rather than memorize it. Super easy if you listen to what she's trying to say and on exam day use notes as a "logic checker" or to read off a numerical stuff being asked. Go to class, take notes, think through the question.
4 tests worth 100% of the grade, open note, closed internet, and 4% extra credit is available and easy to get. I never read the book, and got an A on every test. They are easy if you go to class and take good notes. Overall, she was a good and easy professor, but she is liberal and insensitive, so if that bothers you, take someone else
DONT TAKE HER!!!! She was so incredibly rude and did not care about her students at all. She would get mad if you tried to ask her a question and she would act like you were just dumb. She begged us to drop her class. The class is only 4 test grades. Tests are very tricky. I have never gotten a C before but she was so terrible that I got a C.
Professor Lim is strict, not mean. The class is straightforward but you still need to put in effort, maybe 4-5 hrs per exam. Her class is just 4 exams each worth 25%. Go to class, take good notes, and read the exam textbook chapters at least twice before each exam and you'll get an A.
If you put in effort, you'll be fine. The material is manageable but her questions can be confusing. She is a great person and attempts to be funny at times. She definitely has some strange rants and opinions on some things but she genuinely attempts to make the material relatable. The work that you have to put in is still less than other profs.
super funny and out of pocket. mostly stats based but some rants thrown in there by her. 4 exams, 4% extra credit, nothing else. open note open book exams, make sure you understand the charts/graphs and put her entire slideshow in your notes.
This professor had very clear expectations and it was easy to know what we needed to do in this class to do well. We were only graded on four tests for the whole semester but the tests were fair and not too difficult.
If you aren't a good test taker or not confident in POLS, do not take this professor. Dr. Lim's lectures are ok, but if you do poorly on one test there is like no way to bring your grade back. You can do an optional final to replace the lowest but she essentially says she won't give anyone anything above a B. Tests are lecture heavy but open notes.
Dr. Lim was an okay professor with decent lectures, but she is super blunt. Your grade is based only on 4 exams, which are open note (in person on Lockdown), but they weren't easy even with notes. (If you mess up on 1 you're pretty much screwed) "For those who made B's, it's still a good grade.Chances are the social sciences is not your forte."
Graded only by 4 tests, but they are the easiest tests in the world if you just show up to class and feverishly type away at what she's saying, even if it makes no sense. Idk how people find this class hard. Her lectures and powerpoints seem like they would not prepare you at all for the exams, but they somehow really do. Hilarious too.
Dr. Lim is hilarious and is a great lecturer. She made the course material engaging and easy to understand. There are only four exams and an optional final so the class if very test heavy, but the exams are open note and if you take notes in lectures you should be fine. Going to lectures and taking notes on her slides to print out is helpful.
Professor Lim was so good, she is very funny and makes the lectures very interesting. Grading was 4 tests only and no final but the tests were easy if you went to the lectures. Overall great professor, I lover her.
If you don't study this stuff in your free time, good luck! Phaik has a very thick singaporean accent and is the most passive aggressive person on the planet. You get a quiz a week, and you are most likely going to get a 55 on every one. Although you can use your notes, you have no time and its just a bunch of confusing graphs anyways.
Lectures are funny and engaging.
Not bad, but not easy and isn't the most understanding. My best tip is go to lecture and write EVERYTHING she says (open note tests). She'll say if she says something that will be on the test. Do the best you can on the first test bc you don't want to take the final. You can go to any section she has. She puts random textbook questions on tests fyi
3 exams, each is 30% of your final grade. Other 10% is weekly packback discussion posts. She's difficult to understand and in her lectures she often goes on random tangents. Her lectures are also very uncomfortable as she asks very personal questions to the class. She admits she is a sexist and boys are terrible, and she admits she is a socialist
So funny, packbacks are easy, print out slides for the test, and go to lecture, and she is chill.
Extremely funny, great lecturer, but is very much liberal-leaning and kinda offensive towards conservatives. The statistics and data are against it, and she isn't afraid of debating. Exams are 30% each, first two open note and last one closed. Attendance not mandatory but lectures and graphs are IMPORTANT in exams. Didn't use textbook, did ok.
She says some wild stuff, very entertaining lectures, may not be the best teacher but I definitely don't fall asleep. I just play clash whenever she goes on tangents and I got away with not reading the textbook for the first two exams.
Funny and entertaining lectures. She doesn't want to make this class easy, which is kind of annoying but as long as you show up to class, take notes, have an understanding of the graphs, and print out notes before exam, you should be fine. Exams are worth 90% of grade, but are open note and aren't too bad if you make yourself familiar with material
Professor Lim is hilarious! While attendance isn't mandatory, you will definitely want to attend lectures for her humor and insight into the material. This class is based on 3 exams, worth 90% of your grade. The tests are open book & open note. If you attend lectures, thoroughly read the book, and pay attention, then you are all set!
Dr. Lim is very caring and hilarious prof, she really shows that she cares about her students. However, her class was pretty difficult because 90% Exams, 10% Packbacks and if you aren't a good test taker and need more leeway then DON'T take her. Her exam are lecture and textbook heavy, so go to lectures, her lectures are entertaining so go anyway!
Dr. Lim knows her stuff, and she's very good at explaining things if you can listen around her heavy accent. Her lectures take wild turns sometimes and everyone gets a good laugh. As long as you go to all her lectures, read the textbook, and take lots of notes, you'll be fine, because 90% of your grade rests on 3 (usually open-note) exams.
This is a mandatory class for all majors, don't be scared from the other reviews. Recommend skipping the textbook, and instead going to lecture and writing out exactly what she says on the slides. Entertaining lectures, 90% of grade from 3 tests, 10% packback participation, no final. I enjoyed her class more than I thought I would, and learned lots
Dr. Lim was a solid professor, made a usually pretty boring UCC class quite enjoyable. 90% of your grade is based on tests, but they are open note. Other 10% weekly Packbacks. Tests are completely lecture based, she will also provide you with the textbook online. As long as you understand the graphs/tables in her slides, the class will be a breeze.
Prof Lim makes this UCC pretty enjoyable. She gives engaging lectures and clearly cares about the content. Most of the content you will probably already know if you paid attention in high school or are somewhat engaged in modern politics. The grading of the class can make it a little hard to get an A, but if you pay attention you'll be alright.
Really funny professor: I genuinely enjoyed going to her lectures. That being said, I don't recommend her if you're a bad test taker- I am and I struggled with her format of having 3 tests worth 90% of your grade. Make sure you pay attention during lecture and take notes- her exams are open note.
Exam format was vague at the beginning of the semester. Her class is test heavy, so only consider taking her if you are a good test taker. She goes on tangents during lecture and frankly most of the information said is useless.
11 discussion Q's (10%) and 3 Exams (30% each) w/ no Final. First 2 exams were open note & super easy if you went to lecture (some Q's weren't on slides, only spoken), last 1 she had to leave town & it was online w/ lockdown browser & no notes, but it's still easy if you look at your notes beforehand. Hilarious prof, would recommend & take again.
POLS207 in general is an easy class. Her tests might be slightly harder than others, but they are also open note so make sure you take good notes in class. Also, attendance is not mandatory but show up to class and pay attention and the class is very easy. She is also very funny and lovely as a person.
Dr. Lim was awesome and a joy to take for POLS 207. The first 2 tests were open note and then because she had to leave town, the last one was closed note. She doesn't post lecture recordings but as long as you show up to lecture and take good notes, you'll do just fine on the tests since they are word-for-word her lectures.
Easy class I showed up to lecture but to be honest you don't need to. As long as you do the kahoots/waygrounds the SI gives out before the exam half the exam is the same as it. 1st exam was the hardest and it got easier from there. Only thing is there is three exams with a total of 90% of your grade the other 10% is a free hundred completion grade.
Professor Lim is amazing, she is very funny and knowledgeable about what she teaches. Her first 2 exams were open note and honestly, as long as you good notes and actually showed up to class and paid attention, it is very easy to get an A. Attendance is not mandatory but her in-person lecture makes it super easy to understand the concept!
Very funny professor, lectures are pretty engaging but attendance isn't mandatory and you can definitely get away with skipping a couple and being fine. 3 exams (first two were open note) and all of them were pretty easy. I'd read the textbook and take notes, also look at past students' quizlets and the SI's study resources before exams.
90% exam weighted. Exams were difficult. I attended class and tried on the first exam and scored 80s. Gradually did less studying each time and still scored in the 80s. Lectures were funny and she cares about the subject. If you are a bad test-taker: avoid. If you want the easiest professor: avoid. If you want to learn: maybe. Has strong accent.
Super light class. It's 90% 3 exams + 10% Packbacks which are a free 100. Exams are open note. If you go to the SI session the day before and do the Waygrounds/Kahoots, you're genuinely set. No joke the last exam I counted like only 8 questions that were different from the wayground. I went to like 4 lectures total and got an A+ on every exam.
