Dr.Cunnigham is an excellent professor! You will learn a lot in his course, but be prepared to study. He expects a lot from his students and the exams are challenging.

Cares about students. Course work heavy and tests difficult but grades are adjusted to overall class performance. Lab is most work but you will learn alot. Take the time to talk to him after class. He will inspire you!
Understandable, interesting lectures, tests hard. Make sure u read question twice and think before answering. The answers is not always so obvious. Very helpful to students, makes himself availaible, approchable, not afraid to be friends with students

This is a very good instructor. You will know microbiology before it's over but, test are somewhat of a brain teaser so, study the notes ( don't just remember but understand the material.) Powerpoint, audio steaming and lecture will help.

Good Proff, funny, easy to talk to. The notes he gives are perfect u don't even need the book; I didn't buy it. The tests are tricky but not that bad at all; as long as u have at least 2 days for studying each exam u'll be fine. There are some applications questions so know the material well.
Lame class. If you care about your pre-med grade, take this with a different prof. His exams are a true reflection of his lecture personality -- namby pamby.
Excellent teacher. The tests are not a piece of cake even if you study a lot, but you learn from him, he is a great communicator, great teacher and very funny. Take him!!!
One of the better professors I've had at Wayne State. His lectures are interesting and very important...attend all!! Study hard and know all the material well enough to apply it. He is very funny you would enjoy this course.

Judging my the comments they may dissuade you from taking the class. But honestly noone teaches 2200 well. Everyone who teaches it is hard. Theres a genuine curve. I had 70 sumthing average in everything and ended with a B+. Lab is 40% points so get as much as you can. By far the hardest lab i've taken and this is my last semester.
Cunningham's the best professor at Wayne State. He's tougher than other professors that teach 2200, but prepares you 10 times over for the MCAT. Take the course seriously and you'll get a lot out of it.
He is genuinely helpful, but is a very tough prof. His lectures are very important, try to go to as many as possible. The lab was fun, I suggest going to see him in office hours for any questions.

One of the best teachers in the biology dept. at WSU. Very clear lectures and willing to answer any questions, inside and outside of class. Unbelievably brilliant man. Humourous yet not tacky like some teachers end up being. I felt motivated to go to his lectures, they were nothing but helpful.
Dr. Cunningham is the kind of prof you hate when you're taking his class but miss when the class is done. He's tough sure, but no one puts more effort in the Biology department at WSU than this guy. If you put the effort in this class, you'll be rewarded beyond a letter grade. This guy's on top of his shizzle.
He is very clear in his teaching. He is really funny too. But his tests are hard and you need to study a lot. But, he also has a huge curve which helps people. The labs are fun. Enjoy what you are studying, then you will do just fine.
He's one of the best professors. He teaches soooo well, but his exams could be very difficult. Just make sure you know your stuff! and don't rely on old exams.

I thought Dr. Cunningham was fantastic. He really knows his stuff, and can be as detailed as you want him to me. The way he designed the lab was perfect in my mind, much better than other Bio labs. Be prepared to work, but you will learn things!

Yet another wayne professor who spends more time writing tricky exam questions then he does on teaching. Thanks for the Powerpoint and book because with out those things you would fail. Lecture is pointless with this man. You will spend more time learning about his family then micro. "Self teaching course"
Exams are tricky and do not reflect material in his lectures. He has a very condescending attitude towards students during lectures. Does not help to fix problems with lab conflicts. Careful all pre-med, dental and pharm students, taking this course with him might screw up your GPA!
Lectures are full of fluff and he usually goes off on a tangent 2-3 times each lecture. Many of my friends are dropping the course. But I am going to stick it out. This will be one of the most difficult A's (if I get it) I have earned. I think people should take Micro with another teacher. Good luck!
While it is true that his lectures do not reflect his tests, if u memorize his lecture notes u r gauranteed an A on the exams..book is not important for test purposes. He tests the most irrevelant things on the exams, which is why it is crucial that u memorize everything in his notes...doesn't really like to help students much.
This professor is QUITE difficult! Even when you study, there is just so much information involved, it's hard to do well. Plus he only has 30 questions on the exam, so 4 wrong is already a B! Good luck with this guy.. only top 10% gets an A!!
This is the hardest professor. If you can take this class with another professor do it, get out of this class. His tests have nothing to do with the book or the lecture. If you do not beleive me email me and I will show you the tests. I do not know where he gets the questions, I guess only if you can read his mind you can get an A.
you will learn your stuff in cunninghams class. he's difficult but if you're efficient with your studying you will get an A. GO TO LECTURE, listen to podcasts of the lecture, memorize your slides. i've learned so much in his class. lab rocks too and will really help your grade bc it's worth 400/1000 pts.
Yea microbiology is a hard subject in general but I do not recommend this teacher because his exams are extremely difficult, its 30 questions multiple choice and sometimes the choices are a,b,c,d: all of the above,e:one or more but not all of the above. The pace for the course is also tooo fast you have to keep up if you take him, no joke!
RUN!! This professor is horrible. He BROKE HIS LEG and STILL went to class. The lecture tests are ridiculous (one test was 7 chapters-- yet it was still only 30 questions long). Lab is ok until you get to the Final Practical. Its 15 questions (you have to know everything you learned that semester) and TWO MINUTES per station. Its worth 150 points.
I hate him! His tests are ridiculous. only 30 questions usually covering 6 chapters. His questions are too tricky. the lecture before an exam, he always squeezes in 1 more chapter in the last 20 mins of class. He has done it for all 4 exams. what a piece of crap. If your not stupid you will get at aleast a B. Anyone that says otherwise is useless. College isn't supposed to be easy. Half that people that complain are pre-med students. Take it with someone else! He knows his stuff and expects you to be on his level. "My fellow Microbiologists" haha! Better suited for higher level micro classes. V.condescending and then some. Lectures are useless. Powerpoint notes are a waste an entire forest. Know EVERYTHING in the book and the PAGES and PAGES of supplemental articles. Tests are only 30 questions..so NO room for error. Wasn't expecting easy but wasn't expecting how terrible the class ended up being. Retaking it!
The only way you are going to appreciate this course is after your done and have realized the tremendous amount of valuable information you have learned. Dr. Cunningham is extremely knowledgable...enjoy what your learning and everything else will fall into place. Trust me
Man, this class so so easy. All you had to do was study all day long and not have a life. Since I'm gonna be doctor, all I did was study and not do anything in my life. I'm not even social so all I did was study and I got an A. This class was so easy if all you is study. Peace.
Anyone who gives Cunningham a bad rating are bitter that they didn't get an A. Study a lot, and you'll do well. The first test know the power point slides and the notes. Gradually his tests just became bases off the slides, but always read the supplemental readings. Lab is laborious.
Cunningham is very smart and knows his stuff like the back of his hand and expects you to know it to. His tests are only 30 questions and the 2nd test covers like 10 chapters no joke, so you do the math! Definately retaking it! If your up for a challenge and its your only class take it with him otherwise save it for another teacher.
He would spend the whole class talking about something totally irrelevant like CSI and then the day before the exam attempt to cover two chapters.. and when he couldnt, he would tell the students to learn it themselves.. The only way to do good was to read the book which at times could be hundreds of pages.. dont recommend at all!
OMg this class was horrible. It was so much for one class. He had like 7 Chapters on one exam and his curve does not help you. It helps those who just want to pass not the C to B or Bto A. One Word SUCKS
On all 4 exams, the class average was failing. 30 questions per exam is just not fair in a course like this one. Each exam covered a minumum of 6 chapters, often more. You can just tell that Cunningham tried his hardest to make the exams rediculously hard. He gives grades by percentile and only the top 10% get A's. Dont take him, bottom line.
DR. C seemed very excited to make the class fail. He was a terrible prof, but Tiffanie my laboratory instructor was pretty great.

Very hard class... it's one of those classes where you study your butt of only to get 60% on his tests--which stinks because they're only 30 questions. Make sure you're willing to put A LOT of work in this class.. dont expect an A, even if you're usually an A student : /
True, it's a very challenging class which requires lots of studying, but then again - don't expect a Microbiology class to be a blow-off class. If you study your ass off, an A is possible. What worked for me was listening to his recorded online lectures over and over - repetition does work. He is not an easy teacher, you have been warned! Study!!!
you have to study everyday if you want an A in his class and still then you might not get it because his tests are very specific and if you accidentally overlooked one tiny thing then you are out of luck. his curve he promises from the beginning of the semester is misleading. he is very intelligent though and over enthusiastic about microbiology.
He is a cool person but this is a class you have to work your ass off and only get a c for a grade. i put more work into this class then any other and i still passed barley. he likes to put trick question on the test even though you pick the right answer to the question it will not be the question he wanted you to pick.

He and Spranger (for Anatomy) are the to best professors on campus. Both will prepare you like you need to be prepared for grad school. Looking back, this was an excellent course.
Prob the worst professor ever. Hes the BIGGEST LIAR and will tell u that if u get a C+ on each exam he will probably give u a B-, but he gives u a C because of his stupid curve. Ive never hated a teacher so much in my life. anyone saying I wasnt willing to do the work is full of crap cuz i did the work and still got screwed cuz of his stupid exams
Horrible teacher. Whoever said that him and spranger are the best teachers on campus is an idiot. He's so full of himself. Studying 7 chapters for a 30 question test with the sole purpose of tricking people is ridiculous. He needs to get a life and understand that people take other classes besides his.
Incredibly HARD professor and pride himself on that. When a professor publiclly states he doesnt want to answer "stoopid" questions - you really have to question why is he is doing something he doesn't like? I loved the material and he is great lecturer, most of the time. Overall, its hard to recommend anyone put themselves though his abuse.
Im just taking him this course and he seems to get off track alot and he likes to talk about how microorganism make cheese. I dont know but i think he likes food a tad bit to much.
This is the most disheartening class I have every taken - the material is fascinating but this professor is so discouraging. Funny? Yes. Informative, NO!!! He gives little substance is his lectures and when you make an appointment to ask him for clarification, he tells his life stories but answers little. This COULD be done so well...
This professor is majoprly ridiculous. he makes you study in one way and one way only, to read the book before you come to class so that he can give you a two question quiz(part of your grade) the next day, every lecture. his tests are ridiculous and the book isnt even in order to his slides. im an A student in every scinece... but this class i cry
This guys knows his stuff, but its soo much for a intro class, do not take him if you have to take this class take it at another school because this class is not worth the energy. It basically killing yourself for a B. The information is interesting, but too much at one time. He makes you take a quiz everyday in class to make sure you read the book
Hard prof. he thinks hes funny, def. gets off track and then he expects you to sit there and listen. Grading wise hes very leanient but other than that his class is HARD!
It's a hard class. The teaching thinks he is cool and funny, but i don't think so. Although he know the stuff really well, but 7 chapter in a exam that only have 30 question is ridiculous. Class average is around 60%. harddddd
Very hard, reading is mandatory for CPS, question on the test come from covered and noncoverd material. If you want to get an A read, listen to lectures carefuly.
cunningham is really a hard teacher, his exams were fun cuz they were not straight forward exams.. he might get something that he didnt even mention in class.. but overall he's a smart professor and will help everyone to pass this class...
He needs to assign relevant readings from the text rather than his present tactic of search for it. He pulls from the reference books, too. He will go off topic often. His exams are difficult to predict since things he covers for 10s vs 10min may be equal in points. Study lots and know everything just the way he likes it.
Avoid this guy like the plague. I am an A student in every other subject, but this is a nightmare. The amount of info we are responsible for is ridiculous. It's like he thinks we have no other classes. Hey Dr. Phil, maybe if you taught with reasonable expectations, you wouldn't have to curve the grade so much! Wait until someone else teaches this!
First of he IS funny. I laughed almost every lecture, mostly with him, occasionally at him. I LOVED A&P, you had to think more. Micro is more of a memorize course. The instructor did what he could to make you think on a few problems but over all its a memorization course. It can be hard to know what he will test you on. I recommend him. Smart man.

Good instructor, keeps you interested, throws little jokes, during lectures to keep you alert. However, on avg we are covering 7-8 ch at a time with so much information to know and EXAMS, forget about it. Just study to know EVERYTHING and maybe you'll get a 72...MAYBE. If you are typically an A student this class will humble you... Seriously.
He is a pretty good teacher however, no need to go to lecture becasue he reads right off of the slides. He is funny, but sometimes his stories take away from what you are learning. His exams make you feel retarded. His teaching style does not match the style in which he makes his exams. You may be an A student, but you'll get a C in the class.
He's a very fair professor, the exams are right off his slides. Doesn't try to trick you, you just have to listen to the lectures and look over all the slides CAREFULLY you don't even need the book. It's a lot of material,but it's really not as bad as people say and you will learn a lot.
Yes the tests are hard, but they are not bad at all if you put enough effort into them...i outlined the book chapters and recopied the notes from lecture and got a's on the tests. There is a VERY big curve.

he is a great teacher. He is not that hard as some students mentioned, but u need to study a little harder because u are in a university and not high school or community college. Also, he curves a lot, so don't believe those who say that he doesn't curve.
WORST WORST TEACHER EVER! His test are very tricky. HOW can he give us a test of 30 questions on SEVEN(7)CHAPTERS?He is unreal. He gave us a test the MORNING after EASTER while other teachers waited till wednesday. His tests come from his "Micro in the News" there's a million articles to know stupid details about, instead of the useful book! BAD
This class was legendary. I enjoyed the competitiveness to get an A (top 10%) and was proud to get it. He is very hard and really requires you to know alot of details however small they are. Most questions from slides. He is a genious in his field, just read about his accomplishments. He applies a nice curve.Take if you want to succeed.
What a profePssor. Probably the smartest man in his field. The class was really hard bc he expected you to know EVERYTHING and I mean everything. His exams were really tricky since he picked little random facts that you had to know. He is a hilarious guy and cracks jokes like no other. Top 10% get an A. If ur looking for an easy A, DO NOT take him.

Work hard and study and you will do fine, he is straight forward of what he expects, sometimes there are too many chapters on the exam and not enough questions, that's the field. Somewhat hard to determine what is important and what is not. The Class is worth it.
This teacher is unreasonable beyond belief. Who only has 30 questions on an exam that covers 9 chaps? Who has a grading scale that will only allow 10% of the class to get A's? With the heavy work that gives you, I don't think he understands that his students are taking other classes as well. I would not refer this teacher to anyone at all.

I got an A in the class but someone with 3 points less than me got a B. I felt so bad for that person. Dr. Cunningham is hard but the questions are pretty much straight from his notes and are very specific. Lab was interesting but the notebook is very time consuming and studying for lecture is hard. I'd recommend Dr.C if you have the time to study!
I got an A. Hard class. Exams are poorly & unfairly designed. Study 8 chapters for a 30 question exam, only to see that they're based on REALLY trivial details (from the notes). Don't need the book. He wont tell you what's important or not, so you need to know EVERYTHING or ur screwed. If you want an A, this class and lab will take over your life.
Class was RIDICULOUSLY HARD. It didn't matter how much I studied his test would ask the most minute details. Lab section was a waste of time. I have never gotten a "c" at WSU b4 his class. Completely unfair for an introductory class. Without his curve I probobly wouldn't have passed. Highly recommend taking the class elsewhere!!
I got a C.Not going to lie i didn't study much.I had a middle B before the final but it dropped drastically because of lab it's just laborious for no reason. Cunningham was an intelligen professor. I got a B...maybe got lucky cuz of the curve. I studied 2 weeks b4 each exam, didn't go to class, but took notes by listening to his lectures online. Also, I tried really hard to do well in lab, almost failed(got like 105/150) the lab final...which left me at 350 pts total out of 400. Didn't use the book. His qs come from his slides and notes.
This class is a lot of work. Come to class with the powerpoint slides prepared to take notes. Try to read the book sections that he lectures about. The lab kind of depends on your ta, some are easier than others. Just be prepared to work and study everything he says.

I got an A in the class. It all depends how hard you are willing to work. I worked my ass off to do well in the class. Go to class, listen to lectures, going to SI seemed to help. Study only the notes and you'll be good! He knows his stuff and he expects his students to know alot.
It's amazing how student always say "I hate this prof. b/c he / she is hard". Well, if you try hard, not rely on your friends for answers and copying, and stop being a coward who always takes shortcuts, you'll do fine. This "poor me" mentality will put an end to your med / dental school aspirations. Grow up, and learn to do things on your own!
VERY HARD PROFESSOR, i went to every lecture read the book and got a D!! i dont even work...i guess his tests are very tricky so even though you studied thats just one part the story, the next depends on his questions which are really specific...take this class with kang, lab is hard no matter what...
You have to work to do well. He bell curves which makes it tough. There is A LOT of material covered in this class, usually 5-7 chapters per test. He DOES test on his slides. Just relisten to his podcasts, it really helps. He cares about his students, he personally emailed me noticing i did better on my 3rd test than 2nd and congratulated me for it
Cunningham is a very hard professor. If you do not dedicate your life to this class you will surely fail. the lab is annoying and loaded with tons of busy work. His tests are basically based off of slides but the questions are super tricky. Take with a different prof if you want a good grade. He has an unfair way of testing.
He is funny, which encourages going to lecture. I had to retake his class because I was working too much last time, but that's fine, I did well the second time around. As long as you keep doing well in lab and read the slides, you'll likely get an A or B, because a C (curved) test average with a good lab average is more or less a B. Curve is HUGE
The Lab experiments are fun, but the Research Notebook is a headache and the final is impossible. Nonetheless, because of the bell curve of the Lecture portion, 72% on exams somehow equated to an A. Study the slides and listen to the lectures at least twice and you should do fine - as long as 90% of the class does worse than you. .....yeah.
There are 4 tests, he removes the test with the lowest grade for you. The grades are curved. The top 20% get As, the next 20,Bs and so on. Not that I'm advising that you do as I did, but I did not study. Absolutely none, well, except for a couple hours a week but not nearly enough as I should have. I did do good in lab though. I passed with a B-.
Honestly, before i took this class i went on this website and what I read was quite intimidating but the truth is its all BS. Best prof i have ever had, hes way too funny has me laughing a lot ! Great teacher, interesting. YOU want to succeed in life you take this course, i promise you gets you ready for anything. Study and HUGE CURVE. awesome guy
This professor loves his subject and enjoys teaching but sadly, is not a good professor by any standard. Steer clear of this professor if you want the training you need to succeed. Publication record has fallen off in recent years. Most students graduate without publishing anything in a peer-reviewed journal. 5+ years to graduation.
