Best professor I have ever had. Makes the class and subject very interesting. Easy to do well if you show up and pay attention to his lectures/ study guides. Very willing to help any student who asks.
This guy's great! He'll explain something 3 different ways if someone still doesn't get it. If you're willing to put in the effort, he's willing to help. Even if you're shooting for a C, if you give a heads up, he's cool with that. Can rant if pushed, but all around a great guy and teacher! Doesn't force political views, makes politics fun.
Phil is an awesome teacher. If you take his class you do have to work and try to stay on his good side. He's very understanding and really likes when you show improvment (I got a C first exam, B second exam, A third, not sure about final, and than an A in the class.) I had good partiipation as well. Take his class- its entertaining and fascinating.
Tests were hard but felt prepared for them with the study guide posted for each exam..plus 25 points available on multiple choice come directly from the posted practice quizzes. Demand is high on essay questions, but once you realize that he wants to make sure you understand everyday applications of the concepts, not just the theory it's manageable
Gussin was an awesome teacher. His Lectures were good, used his website posted lecture notes, he elaborated and explained everything more in detail. NO MIDTERM/FINAL! just 4 or 5 test, lowest dropped. Has helpful site with all quiz (exact like test). Review day before test. Learned a lot if you don't pass w/ an A/B you're lazy! Take PHIL!!
Great professor! Creates an excellent learning environment that encourages student participation. Lectures were always interesting; the lecture notes were posted online ahead of time, which allowed one to spend less time jotting down notes, and more time concentrating on the lectures. Very helpful. Highly recommended!
A teacher dedicated to help you give it your all and achieve the best grade you are able to. Very clear, understanding, and a sense of humor as well. although it requires work and attendance u will def enjoy the class. He prepares u very well and u will know exactly what will be on an exam.
Very passionate and educated! Does everything he can to make sure the material is clear to everyone. Uses many examples and has review sessions before tests. As long as you attend lecture and pay close attention you'll be fine! anyone who doesnt do well can only blame themselves.
Amazing professor to say the least. He's just a wonderful person. His lectures are interesting and he makes sure everyone knows the material. If you're taking PoliSci 150 I definitely recommend him. Make sure to study the multiple choice. It'll hurt your grade on the tests if you don't.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! He actually cares and wants you to succeed in his class. He makes lectures easy to understand and he is very down to earth. It's easy if you put in the effort to study for the tests. I ended up with an A! I would highly recommend him.
best teacher ever!!! drops lowest test score. gives you all the questions on test before the test so noo surprises! makes class sooo fun and interesting!
Listen to him in class and do your work and you'll get a good grade. Tests are straight out of the book and lecture. Great class, I learned a lot about how our government works!
As long as you: attend class, pay attention ("no cycling!"), take notes & ask ?'s study your lectures You will Ace the class and have a much better understanding of American Gov't No B.S kind of guy!
One of the best instructors I have ever taken a class with. He is passionate, fair, and interesting to listen to. He REALLY knows the material. I highly recommend him.
One of the best classes I have ever taken. He wants his students to learn and really makes an effort to make sure everyone is grasping the material. He's an awesome professor.
His class is great! He makes sure everyone understands. He keeps it very interesting, and if someone doesn't understand a certain point, he will help you. As long as you show up for class, do the work, and participate in class discussions you will do great! You will also learn alot about our country and government in the process.
Poli Sci with Phil is great! I learned a lot from him. He gives you the notes and they are easy to follow. He makes students feel comfortable, so it's easy to ask questions. I didn't care much for politics until I took his class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
AMAZING!!He is AMAZING..I do not enjoy politics, found it hard to grasp.Phil is helpful and I can't thank him enough for his patience with all my questions and frustrations. If this class is easy or something you enjoy please get in this class.Extremely helpful and laid back. Respect him though as he will respect you back!!!
Phil is a great teacher. Very helpful, super clear and motivated not only to help you learn, but to learn with you. He is very engaged in what he does and i can tell he loves what his job. His stories are hilarious too!
Phil was honestly the best Poly Sci teacher you could have i didnt try very hard in his class just showed up payed attention and do the reading each night and got an A. I say if you can get him for poly sci defiantly get him you wont regret it.
Great professor. Makes Political science interesting and fun. He's down to earth, helpful, and crystal clear. Highly Recommend!
I took this over winter and breezed through it. Just make sure you answer the study guide using the exact examples in his videos. Pretty small workload. He's a very good lecturer and makes dull subjects much more engaging. Great prof.
This guy is amazing. He made political science very interesting and I looked forward to learning more and more. There is a good amount of work, but if you pay attention and listen to his advice then you will do great! I loved the class, he was awesome, and funny. Take his class. You won't regret it! You will learn a whole lot.
One of the best professors known to man. Is his class easy? If you're idle then no. As long as you participate and put effort into the study guides, then passing the class shouldn't be an issue. If you're still having trouble, don't hesitate to ask him for assistance. He cares. Oh, he's hilarious! I need more than 350 characters to talk about him.
Bio major, 4.0 GPA, work my butt off etc. Took his class and put in tons of effort. At the end of the class he screwed me on participation points even though I put the most effort in the whole class. Gave me a B, had to challenge the grade. Finally had it switched to an A. Be careful with this class.
BE CAREFUL. Seems nice and easy b/c he gives out study guides for the exams and is very engaging in class. WILL SCREW YOU ON YOUR GRADES (exam and participation) and doesnt care. I am an A/B student and he was handing me C grades which I am having to dispute. Doesnt care... and he will tell that to the class. Very deceiving. DO NOT TAKE.
Great teacher. Really cares about student success and because of this he's a no non-sense teacher. Do the work! Do the study guide! Show up to class and take plenty of notes! His class is not easy, it requires WORK. But if you WORK you pass. If you don't pass u were being lazy, plain & simple. He really is a great str8 up guy. 2 thumbs up.
Really awesome and nice guy, great teacher as well. However, some assignments can be a bit difficult, he expects a lot. I feel like he really wants you do give a good, in depth break down. Although, he does makes the test really easy for all student though, he gives you all information, he's just checking if you study by memorizing material.
If you want to learn about Political Science, take his class. He is very passionate about teaching also has a high expectation from his students. His tests are not too hard but you need give enough time to prepare. I learned so much from this class lectures and I recommend if you are a hard working student.
Great professor! Very knowledgeable and passionate about political science I loved going to class. He is extremely funny and is easy to understand. His exams required preparation but he never asks questions that he didn't go over in class. Great teacher my whole class loved going to class!
Phil was without a doubt my favorite Professor at COC. I took his class and I loved him so much I looked for other classes he taught. Don't get me wrong, he can be very hard on grading, but he is so knowledgeable and passionate that it is worth the grief.
He doesn’t apply the supposed 100 participation points to your final grade. The grading on his test is 20%multiple choice from the textbook, and 80%short answer questions. I answered these questions completely by putting all the info he gave us in lectures, and he still would just give me a C on his tests. He should only be teaching Honors POLISC.
He doesn't give A's easily but you will learn a lot from him. If you are willing to put in the hard work, you will do great. All the work that he gives will help you prepare for the test. He's a great instructor.
Phil is a great professor because he tells you exactly what you're going to be tested on. He provides lecture notes to guide you along, study guides for quizzes and exams, and lecture videos in case you need clarity. He will make sure that you understand the concepts. And honestly don't even bother with the textbook, quizlet is your friend!
He gives a lot of assignments, but he is an amazing professor and I really felt like I learned a lot! He tells you exactly what he wants from you on the tests, unfortunately you cannot BS your way through this class, you're going to have to work for it. I would totally take him again!
Phil is one of the best teachers at College of the Canyons. His no BS attitude is what makes him great. If you do not put in the work, do not expect a good grade. Participate and take notes and you'll find yourself getting into the subject matter.
Professor Gussin made the boring subject of political science very interesting for me. He is super smart and funny! His lecture videos are beyond amazing! Even though he is a tough grader, his grading criteria is clear. It was a joy having him as a teacher and I will continue to utilize the things I learned for the rest of my life.
I took his political science 150 class online during winter session. He has four major exams which you must do good on in order to pass. However, if you take notes while watching his lecture videos, do the reading, and participate you'll have no trouble at all. He really knows what he's talking about. I would strongly recommend taking this class.
Defiantly makes you work for it. Grades to his "UC" standards. So make sure you have the time to do all his HW plus study for tests. All tests are a small portion multiple choice then all essay questions. You need the book to complete HW and lectures can be a bit long bring coffee to class to keep you up and paying attention
I've not taken the classroom course, so I don't know how that feels. However, If you choose to take the condensed summer course - woe be unto the person who slacks. Recommended short-essay response length of 650+ words. MC's are easy.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Definitely not a super easy A, but he is very clear and makes it interesting and easy to understand. Really nice and down to earth, too.
As long as you do the discussions ON TIME. NOT IN THE LAST MINUTE. You'll be fine. I recommended people to take online classes not just his, in general. His lectures are REALLY helpful. Take your time writing down the notes if your taking his class online. Do not do the assignments in the last minute. I'll freak out it's a lot of videos.
Great teacher, extremely caring. Do the work, take the time to study. You will really learn and take away knowledge from him. Has lectures online as well. Really funny and gets you to be interactive in the class. Love this teacher I'd take it again.
This guy is an absolute joke. Do NOT take him. I'm warning you now. He is the most unorganized professor I've ever taken. I've been working my butt off in this class and he grades my stuff like I have no idea what I'm talking about. Then I go back to the videos and what do you know, he says the thing I wrote right there. He's super bad.
Phil is a great professor, tough grader. He will definitely make you work hard for your grade.
Smartest professor I've ever had. Seriously. He makes you work HARD for an A you won't get but with how much I learned, that's okay. I have never learned so much in one class. He is a tough grader, but he's a reasonable man and you know exactly his trading criteria from day one.
Phil is my professor for Model U.N. He's one of the most dedicated, smart, caring people I've ever met. He's the cool Jewish uncle I never had. He will push you but you will learn so much and grow as a student and as a person. Phil if you're reading this I love you 3.
He is a pretty tough grader but only because he makes it very clear what he wants to see. He expects a lot from his students but he is always there to clarify anything. Never thought I would love polysci so much, but he really changes the way you look at things.
Great dude at first he may come off as pretentious which he kinda is but actually cares about teaching his students. 4 Exams will cover exactly what's on study guide and not cumulative. 1 discussion board per lecture completed. Don't buy the book just look up the answers on quizlet. Quizzes are online.
I walked into Political Science afraid that I would not do well because I have never really liked politics all that much to begin with BUT Professor Gussin was one of the best professors I have ever had at College Of the Canyons. Lots of material but his way of teaching is so interactive and fun, that I enjoyed his humor and his class very much.
In the beginning of this class I felt that I would not succeed because of all the work you really have to put in for the good grade, but Phil makes you want to push yourself as a student. His lectures aren't boring whatsoever and he makes sure everything is understandable. Do not take this class if you are not prepared to do the work!
This is a completely doable class. If you watch his videos, and answer the reading questions (he even has boards where you can discuss answers to questions) you will get an A. If you are lazy and want to do absolutely nothing and get an A, obviously this will reflect in your grade, as with any other class. I was shocked at how easy his class was.
Phil is a great dude.
Phil is a really great guy as long as you are respectful during his lectures. There's a lot of discussion that goes on during class, He likes to randomly pick students in the middle of debates because he likes to hear everyones side, even if you're the shy one be ready to discuss and debate. Most or all quiz answers are on Quizlett. Phil is Great!
Phil is a super cool teacher that talks to you like youre his buddy. His lectures are interesting and he tries his best to actually make it fun and bearable. His tests are fairly easy especially because he gives you some of the questions prior.
Wasn't a big fan of the "participation points" requirement. I apparently didn't do any of the discussions (they didn't even show up as assignments and weren't in the grades/assignments sections) so I lost a lot of points for lack of participation. Also, I had a real hard time understanding what he wanted on tests. It wasn't clear to me.
It's political science, so unless you're interested or majoring in it, it's bound to be boring. But this guy makes it fun sometimes. I don't know about future classes, but for my class, there were 4 big tests. There are some really easy canvas discussion questions and a couple of chapter quizzes. The study guide is essential. Be prepared to study!
Phil's online class is great! He structures the class in a way that if you make the effort you can absolutely get an A! You MUST watch the lecture videos and use the study guide to do well on the exams. DO NOT fall behind on watching the videos. Answers to discussion board and exam essays need to be thorough and detailed.
Phils probably the best professor Ive ever had. I participated a lot in class and he knows how to talk politics cordially, even with those he disagrees with. Hes fun, hilarious, and makes you want to be a better student. I highly recommend taking his class.
I took his online class and it wasn't bad. I know he makes it seem really difficult but if u just watch the lectures youre pretty much golden. I did the reading quizzes the day they were due & watched all his lecture videos on 1.75 speed and filled out the study guide the day before the exam. he literally tells u what to put to get full credit
Phil is the best professor I have ever had. He lays out his expectations, and is straight-forward. He engages with the class, replies to your questions, and wants to see you succeed. If you follow his expectations, you'll pass. He does a good job informing vs. showing his own bias. Unless you like to BS your way through things, TAKE HIS CLASS!
Phil is awesome! From the very first day he is clear on his criteria, you can even email him or go to him during office hours to check answers for the study guide. The study guide is the midterm and final. Chapter quizes are on quizlet just complete their study guide before hand. Easy A if you do the work. Miss a lecture just watch his video after.
Super chill prof! If you were never really into politics, you will be after you take his class. I bought the book and never needed it. don't bother. only has 2 exams that are on canvas. I suggest doing the 4 essay questions at the end of the exam FIRST then the multiple choice bc ur timed. gives you a study guide, DO IT And use it during the exam!!
Absolutely fantastic! There is one major due date per quarter for all homework, so you are able to work at your own pace. Furthermore, all of his lectures are available online for review, and his study guides are life savers! Not to mention, his lectures add quirky entertainment to the class subject! Phil is an excellent professor!
His lecture videos are very beneficial, entertaining, and helps you learn the material easily. There are only two due dates before the midterm and final, so everything is at your own pace. Also, the study guides are very USEFUL because the exam contains the same exact questions from the study guide. Each section has a quiz and a discussion board.
This was my first online class so it was a bit confusing at first but did catch on fast. Professor Phil was is a good teacher, he clears out all the material and such but when it comes to rounding up grades he's pathetic. I was active in all discussions and exceeded expectations when it came to hw. Passed with an 88.6 and didn't decide to round up.
I LOVE him. Seriously, he's so funny and witty and the class honestly isn't that hard. I took the winter session online for just 5 weeks and it was fine. Just keep up with the work or you'll hate yourself at the end. Loved his lecture videos, it's impossible not to get a crush on him. If you don't like him you're probably boring.
Phil is honestly the best professor I have ever had. I've never met someone so knowledgeable about any given subject. He is so well-versed and inspirational; he turned a business major into a Political Science major!
Phil Gussin is one of the most dedicated professors at COC. I took his winter session online and it was very straight-forward. If you didn't follow the syllabus you're basically asking for a lower grade. His lectures were super helpful and he literally gives you a study guide before the test that uses some of the same exact questions. Love this man
Professor Gussin was a tough grader but I learned a lot. He is hilarious in his lectures while managing thorough teaching of the curriculum. If I was to retake this course over again, I would have filled out the Exam Study Guides during the course rather than waiting a few days before the exam to answer the questions. His study guides saved me!
You must have the textbook for this class. He's really funny but you need to do the work, he's a very tough grader when it comes to the exams but he was only generous this semester due to COVID-19 happening. however, you need to do the study guides and pay attention to the details because he uses that in his exams and its a lot of work so be focus!
I took Phil for Poli-Sci 150, and he quickly became my favorite professor. I 100% recommend taking his class. This man truly cares about politics, teaching, and above all his students. This doesn't mean that getting an A in his class will be easy, but if you put your end of the work in, Phil gives you all the tools you need to earn a high grade.
I LOVE Phil. He is a phenomenal teacher. He's lecture heavy. The class is time consuming, but you learn a LOT in this class. I really enjoyed this class, it was really fun and I learned a lot. If you do the work, it's easy. Do the study guides, the questions are on the test. You can use quizlet for quizzes, you don't really need the textbook. 10/10
His class was fairly easy but the exams were graded hard you need to be very detailed.
Teaches his classes in the most non-partisan way, takes care to answer any and all questions. All exams are based off the lectures and readings, but if you put in the effort during class, it's not hard to get an A. Take good notes, be there for lecture, and engage in class. One of the best COC professors, and is always so helpful and dedicated.
Easy course. Answer the test questions as he teaches, not the US constitution. Disrespectful professor. Will use derogatory language towards students in front of all their peers.
two tests midterm&final: DO THE STUDY GUIDE FOR THE TESTS THEY ARE THE FINAL. A CHAPTER LECTURE NOTES, 25 ?'S, QUIZ FROM THE 25?'S & DISCUSSION. 12-13 CHAPTERS THATS HIS CLASS. TAKE GOOD NOTES ON THE LECTURE AND YOU WILL DO GOOD. A LOT OF WORK BUT MANAGEABLE. HIS LECTURE VIDEOS ARE ENTERTAINING.
This class is more than your average course, you are joining a team. It is an amazing team though, and Phil is a spectacular leader for it. It's a lot of fun, but be prepared, take it seriously, and participate. While he is really funny and laid back, don't expect him to be a pushover. He is serious about the class and expects you to be too.
Maybe it is the pandemic, or maybe only people who are his friends are leaving reviews, but the worst class instructor I have had in my entire education. I was excited to be done with high school, but this man found acway to bring high school to college. Do yourself a favor and take anyone but this man.
I took his online class. Everything was asynchronous and he gave a clear explanation on what to expect. He is pretty strict on plagiarism but is very fair with his tests and what to expect from it. He gives you a study guide and tells you what questions would be on the tests ahead of time. As long as you put some effort, it will be an easy class
Phil is great! Very nice and relatable guy. He loves political science and especially when students participate. Be specific and detailed for discussion boards and exam questions. NO EC AT ALL! Every pt matters. Textbook preowned is super cheap and he'll let you know how old is ok. Lecture videos are exactly his lecture, watch them before if u can
Would not recommend
A real sucker. 8 week course, tough grading and grades you heavily over his really crappy lectures and expects you to memorize his ego through 144 fps videos. Get someone else if you can while you can because this man sucks.
His classes are great! What matter is that you participate! He was very particular on how he wants his test to be done. Speak up because he likes to hear what the students opinions are! you will learn a lot from him!
It is a pretty easy class because he asks you to work specifically to his expectations. The notes do take a long time but if you time manage well you can make it. His notes are answered exactly how he likes it on the test so make sure you look at that and the study guide to see how to answer.
He is great, I had a fun time in his class and I learned so much. Answers every question and makes sure the students understand his lectures. As long as you keep up with the study guide and assignments you will pass the class with no problem! His lectures are very interesting and encourages student participation. Overall, awesome professor!
Extremely tough. I received 100% on every quiz. However, didn't receive full points on discussions, despite taking word for word from his lectures. He is big on answers being from his lectures, when those lectures are two hours plus for each topic. received a 50% on my exam even though used the transcripts from his lecture videos. Never again.
I took a 5 week politic class online which was, obviously, very compacted and required a lot of time/effort. He's very educated and the work is easy if you put the time into watching the lecture videos, just listen and he'll tell you the answer. He does not play around when it comes to grading so be careful. Would not take his winter class again
This professor has changed my outlook on multiple perspectives. He reminded me how nice it is to be in a classroom again post pandemic. I highly recommend taking his class. He is a stand up guy and is very understanding. 10/10
Phil was the best professor is had so far I was dreading taking polisci and he ended up making it my favorite class. My grade was a reflection of my lack of effort, just do your work how he recommends such as doing discussions after lectures and writing notes he gives you all the answers. not a hard class but you do have to work for a good grade
Phil is such a great professor. He cultivates an unbeatable classroom environment and he is more than happy to help you in any way he can. Do your work, give your best effort, and you will be in for an easy time. There is no busy work in this class and the tests are hard but you are given more than enough resources to help you nail this class.
Honestly a really good professor. You can tell he really loves the subject and teaching it and he does a good job at helping understand the world of political science. He also is super funny and caring and I looked forward to his classes all the time. Class is fair and I do highly recommend taking his class, he's super helpful.
So boring wants you to only use his lectures yet hell talk about everything but he subject
I LOVED HIS CLASS. I had him for Fall 22. He just lectures, you take notes, and you're set. The homework was all self-paced and it was only discussion boards. The midterm and final will be IMPOSSIBLE if you don't do the study guide. DO IT!!!! It literally has test questions on it! Everyone that didn't do the study guide in my class got a C or lower
This Class should not be hard at all. But he makes it hard by telling everyone that only what he says is right. You have to literally quote what he says to get a right answer. His a nice guy and professor. But this class is not for those who have no patience for people who just want an ego boost.
Phil has by far been my favorite professor to take a class with. His classes are super fun and interesting as is he. Great professor to chat up during his office hours and I love seeing him around campus. All that being said, he is a very tough grader and his exams are very much a test of commitment to learning. DO THE STUDY GUIDE AND YOU WILL PASS
Amazing professor and a great guy overall. If you space out a lot or won't be able to listen to his lecture for the whole class don't take him because he emphasizes that the written portion of the 2 exams (40% of the whole class each) must be answered with his lecture info and he will know when you use other sources.
Extremely entertaining professor; offers a neutral and factual overview of American politics and government. Much of the success procured in his class relies on the student being attentive during lectures and taking detailed notes. Your grade is heavily based on your test performance, but Phil is always willing and ready to provide any feedback.
Phil is a very good lecturer and always kept a neutral stance on American politics. If you miss a class you can access lecture videos online to keep up with the rest of the class, which were very helpful for the exams.
I absolutely loved taking his class, and I really recommend it to anybody considering taking his class. It is a very straightforward class. He does a very great job at explaining and I enjoyed watching his lecture videos. I never thought I would enjoy learning about politics but by far this has been my favorite professor, thank you Phil!
DO NOT take this professor, he is too blunt. If you have questions, do not bother going to his office hours, he will tell you to look at his lectures again if you are confused. He does not care if you are trying your best. When writing the essays, have a group of classmates to rely on, his critiques, not helpful.
I was dreading taking this course in general but Phil is really caring and taught it in a way that I think is easy to understand. The only thing is if you procrastinate, tell him so he can hold you accountable! I made the mistake of not doing this and it almost bit me. I really enjoyed taking his class though and it changed how I view politics.
His lectures were long, but very well explained. If you watch the lecture and take notes, you'll pass this class and get a good grade on the exams.
very hard grader
He is a chill nice guy, but it was pretty overwhelming the amount of work he crammed into a month of teaching. Alot of lectures which the whole grade was mainly on. He gives good feedback on your work and gives alot of hints on what would be on the final. Best to start early and not get left behind. The grading is very exam heavy(2 exams) so focus
Phils a great professor! I only struggled in this class because i left things for the last minute, so do NOT procrastinate!!! Very lecture heavy, if you watch the videos, take notes, and do the study guide, you will be just fine when you take the exams. Very straightforward class but do NOT procrastinate or else you will struggle a lot
If you are someone that hates textbooks and learns through real life information, Phil is the right professor for you! His lectures, grading, and class setup is very organized. His class is setup so that you actually learn, therefore Chat GPT wont save you here. If you are motivated and put in the effort, you will succeed in his class.
Professor Gussin is the best! He lays out what's expected to succeed in his class from the start of the semester. If you put in poor effort, you will be graded accordingly. His lectures are entertaining, and you will learn SO MUCH!! He's extremely helpful to his students, and genuinely cares. Apart from this, he is very knowledgeable and so kind.
Professor Phil is an amazing teacher. Coming into this class I thought I'd be bored because its political science but his lectures were very engaging, sometimes even added with a little history lesson which is fun. Class and lectures are easy to follow and anyone can get an A if you follow what he tells you which is clear as day.
Pay great attention to the syllabus, do the reading notes, and complete the study guide questions before exams 1 and 2. This will ensure your success for the class. (For the online course, at least.)
This is one of the few classes I have taken where I leave remembering and understanding almost all the information we learned. I really enjoyed this class. He is clear on how he grades, and his exams are based on lectures. One thing you can not do in this class is procrastinate. Do the study guide and you will do well.
Phil is one of the best professors I have ever had, he helps you not only understand politics but make you interested in them. His exams are based ONLY on the lectures, this does not mean you must attend each class since he has all lectures recorded online as well. He cares about his students and makes you want to go to class. Take him if you can!!
Professor Gussin runs a straightforward but engaging class. Lectures are informative, and he's always willing to provide feedback. To succeed, stay attentive, take good notes, and utilize resources like Unstuck study for study prep. Recommended for students interested in politics.
Professor Gussin is a diamond in the rough. He does an excellent job of making even the most dull aspects of politics intriguing and deserving of discussion, which makes his lectures incredibly captivating and fascinating. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is very friendly. All things considered, if you want a fantastic professor, take him!
Professor Gussin is very clear on what he wants from students. Watch his lectures, take the notes as you go through them and this will be a very easy class. Final is open notes and you can simply copy/paste your answers directly into the test. His discussion grading seemed a bit random but overall you can tell he cares about his subject.
I really enjoyed my 4-week, online course with him! Even his pre-recorded lecture videos were engaging and interesting and he clearly has a lot of passion. He would give every individual student detailed feedback and answered every question very eagerly. I honestly wish I had taken this class in person, because I think it would've been really fun.
Phil is an awesome professor who genuinely loves what he does. His lectures reflect that. I wish I could have taken his class in person, but his lecture videos were still engaging enough to make up for it. Although his grading is tough, it forces you to really learn and watch his lecture videos. I named my horse in Minecraft after him (in respect).
Took over the summer. Does not care about the textbook, just use a quizlet. VERY LECTURE HEAVY! Legit idk how you'd survive without watching the lectures and taking notes, but they're pretty fun when you speed them up and in decently short parts so it's digestible. Do the practice tests as much as possible. Put effort into discussion posts.
He's very passionate about his work so participating is very necessary but he's fun to learn from ( I may be biased history is my favorite subject )
Phil was very straightforward. Don't buy the textbook. Exams are a piece of cake so long as you actually pay attention to what his lectures are saying. Very achievable, I took this class as a Sophmore in high school. He does talk a bit slow in his lectures, so turn the playback speed up and it'll be perfectly fine.
Honestly one of the best teachers at COC. His lectures are full of interesting facts along with the important topics that need to be covered. His tests reflect his lectures almost identically. Super easy to talk to, very helpful and overall teaches a great class. For it to be a political class, he keeps everything unbiased.
I took his class over an 8-week course during the summer, and it was a lot to keep up with. He uploads lecture videos with a guideline of the notes you are supposed to take. You MUST watch those videos to pass any of his exams. Overall, he was a great professor, but his class was super time-consuming.
Love Professor Gussin! I've read complaints from ppl who took his online class so I recommend in person! He is really good at explaining material and assignments are easy. I've learned so much politically through his in-person class n I would take again.I cant stress enough, if you actually want to learn, take in the in-person class!
This professor lectures are interesting and digestible. He is so sweet and funny. He gives a clear and rounded idea of political science. I learned so much through his class. FYI- if you take his online class YOU HAVE to watch the lecture videos. They are doable to watch and easy to fit in your schedule. 100% recommend his class.
