Easiest A you will ever earn in your life. The lectures teach you diddly squat. He rambles for an hour about useless information and will only dabble in what you need to learn. Tests are open book with page numbers given. So, if you actually want to learn something, take someone else. Want an easy A, take Dr. Phil.

I love Dr. Phil. Every test I have taken for one of his classes has been take home, and if you don't get 100, you're an idiot. Class is pointless. He just talks about his own personal stories of being a psychologist for children. Very interesting. He doesn't believe in grading by tests, he believes you learn best from real life examples. good class
Dr. Phil is prob the easiest teacher ever! Open book tests, no quizzes. None of the lectures are relevant to exams, he just goes on about the news in the world. Very cool and laid back.
Easiest teacher ever!!! I have him for 2 classes this semester and it is awesome! He is so nice, and full of information, his classes can get a little boring because he just rambles on the whole time. But, the tests are open book and there are no quizzes. Great class!!
You dont have to show up for class. Nothing he discusses is relevant to the exams, but he is interesting and funny and his class is quite enjoyable if you do go. Midterm and Final: both open book. No quizzs. 2 very easy papers. This is an easy A class. You'll learn and it'll help your GPA. what could be better?
Wow. No doubt the easiest class you'll ever take and I know a friend who took bowling. He trims out all the stuff other teachers think is important and just gives us the meat of the book. Plus, he's probably the third nicest person in the world after my mom and Mother Teresa. I hope you take him.
Your grade is based on 3 tests, all open book. I learned a lot about clinical psychology through his stories and lectures. He gives quizzes, and takes attendance occasionally, which can only help your grade. The lectures are interesting. He's probably the nicest professor I've ever had. Highly recommended.
OMG! I felt in love with Dr. Krasula. He became my best PSCY teacher ever!!! He is so nice and he knows a lot! He is really passionate with his job as a therapist and professor. Although class attendance is not mandatory... you will be looking forward to go to his class again.
Dr. Phil is the nicest teacher I ever had. He is very passionate about his work and I would highly recommend taking him.. you will learn so much about psychology from him!
He is the best teacher I have ever had. You can tell he is truly passionate about his love of helping people. Truly inspirational as a teacher pertaining to how he really motivates students into furthering their education to be a therapist. Take all his classes if possible.
Dr. Phil is AWESOME! Grade is based on two tests, which are both open book, so buy it! Class isn't mandatory, and the lectures don't have much to do with the tests, but he has a good sense of humor. He talks about current events for the first half of class-I've taken two of his classes, and they were both EASY A's. Take Dr. Phil!
EASILY THE BEST TEACHER AT NIU EVER!!!! IT IS AN EASY CLASS BUT YOU LEARN SO MUCH. HE IS AWESOME AND IM DEFINITELY TAKING HIM AGAIN
Dr. Phil looks and sounds exactly like Robert from the TV show "Everybody Loves Raymond!" That aside, he is an awesome teacher--probably the nicest you will find in all your years of college--and although attendance is not mandatory, it's your loss if you don't, because he teaches so much that applies to the real world, not just dry textbook info.
Amazing teacher!!Just listening to the stories he tells will make you want to be a better person. His class is easy but you learn SOO much if you actually go to class and it's not just boring material out of the text book. He's an overall great teacher and person. I wish i could take him for all my psych classes...
Amazing man. Really insightful.
Class was the easiest I have ever taken at NIU. I didn't even attend the final two week because sitting in class was useless since he gave take home exams. He likes to tell everyone his personal opinions on everything and comes across only thinking his opinion matters.
Phil Krasula is an awesome teacher. You can tell that he really cares about kids and their welfare.
Best teacher at NIU! Very sweet guy and very passionate about the subject and his job. I would take his classes every semester if I could!
He has heard that everyone says he is an easy A. Well thats not true. He doesn't usually lecture from the book, but it is very helpaful to have for the midterm and final. The final paper is a large portion of your grade. He talks from real world experience and makes it more interesting. He truly has a passion for what he does as a clinician!
Dr. Phil is awesome! He's real and down to earth, tells it like it is. I enjoy his class because he is very insightful and talks about current events which is useful! He's also a good advisor, always on time, unlike other advisors I've had. Also I'll agree with an previous post that he does look like Robert from the tv show "Everybody loves Raym
Dr.Phil is an awesome teacher, and you can learn more from him about real world psychology than any of the other professors. That being said, his test, especially the final, was ridiculously hard. He does curve the final grade. So,if you enjoy not studying, and taking an exam based solely on the book, with a precarious outcome, then take this class.
Dr. Phil gives you a very good look into real world stuff. He uses the text but discusses real stuff. He is a real world Psycholigist. The class is real easy too. But you do have to attend, its 25 percent of your grade.
He is the best teacher ever!!! If u come to class u get attendance points and a current update on current events....His tests r easy if u study...Use personal experiences in ur paper and u will get an automatic A....I had him for this class and Psyc 324....Most awesome teacher ever!!! :)
Great teacher! Makes the class really interesting.. he is always upbeat and excited for class. If you show up and pay attention in class you will do excellent! He makes the psych world come alive.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!
good class
Graet teacher. You couldn't fail unless you tried or skipped a lot. attendance is mandatory i think only 2 absences allowed. but he is funny and nice. the tests are take home open book open notes... he is helpful and there is a paper due but it is pretty self explanatory no worries! would deff. take him again and loved his class
Good teacher, actual real world psychologist. Had him for Psychopathology and his stories from his experience were helpful. This class, he spent most of class time telling us about his kids. You'll learn a lot from him. Online exams are difficult but open book. 1 very easy paper. Mandatory attendance unfortunately. Take him for PSYC 316.
This prof talks about his kids and his juicer. Anything I learned from this class I learned from reading the book. Also, he has a really skewed grading system. Seems like a good psychologist but is a terrible prof. Can't teach.
This teacher does not teach what you will be tested on. He doesn't even write the test. He is a very nice man! He is probably a GREAT psychologist, but he is not a very good teacher. (and you rarely if ever talk about what you will be tested on)
Worst teacher I have ever had in my college career! His grading system is skewed. You have been warned DO NOT take this teacher.
Grades ridiculously heavy on attendance, u gotta go to every class. One issue with this guy is that there will be questions on his test (1 or 2) that have no right answer and if you talk to him he will tell you to email him.. when you email him, he won't respond. I've taken about 3-5 classes with him and this happens on his tests every single time.
Dr. Phil is one of the best Professors I have had yet. A lot of lecture, but you will look forward to it. He has a great outlook on life and is a genuine good human being. I will def miss his class. The class was composed of 2 tests and 1 paper and points for attendance. This man has been a clinician for 20+ years...great stories!
Awesome teacher. Lots of experience. Would take again:)
I really enjoyed having Dr. Krasula as a teacher. He is very experienced and has brought a lot to the classroom. I would definitely take his class again!
Dr. Phil is one of the rare teachers that you will find that does not read word for word the powerpoints to you. He gives great insight on whatever subject is being discussed. You will look forward to his class! He keeps things very entertaining. His tests are pretty difficult though. But overall it is hard not to learn a lot and not do well.
i learned so much. i would like to take another class with you, if that's possible.
Not a bad class. He tends to take a lot of time talking about things not really related to the material. Although this can be annoying, the material is not hard.
Dr. Phill is an awesome guy, but a really unorganized teacher. He has a TON of first-hand knowledge and does inspiring work, but be prepared to spend the entire class talking about his experiences and nothing about the tests. Exams are usually online, but very hard!
Dr. Phil is so interesting! He really knows what he is talking about and is so passionate about what he teaches! He knows first hand, and will share his experiences with you! Yes, he does get off topic alot, but usually about something interesting! I would totally take another class with him!
Dr. Phil i an excellent professor. He has a ton of experience and his stories are interesting, I was never bored every time we had class. I couldn't get enough of his class since I took a hybrid class, we only met three times in sixteen weeks. I am going to be taking another one of his classes next semester.
Krasula is an awesome psychologist but a TERRIBLE, and I mean TERRIBLE, teacher. Unless you would like to spend 3 hours each week talking about current events and Krasula's off topic stories, I do not suggest his class. He never responds to e-mails and the exams cover chapters that were never assigned. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
good teacher. Class moves along nicely and is interesting. Does not give studyguides and you must get the book.
Dr. Krasula was not a good teacher. He got off subject all of the time, was unorganized and changes the grading scale at the end of the semester. For example, regular scale is 90-100 is an A, 8-89 is a B etc. His changes to 93-100(A),86-92(B). I learned more about him and his family than I did about the actual course information within the class.
He is the most unorganized professor I have ever had. He does think a lot of himself. This was a great class to do your hmwrk in because nothing he said related to the class. Easy info and open booked exams.
After his first class, I emailed him to tell him how immensely invigorated I was with his class. He is unbelievably dedicated and INCREDIBLY knowledgeable. He has decades of experience and there is so much to gain from his class. I have now taken a second course with him. VERY WORTH IT! If you have Psych interests, he IS the teacher for you!!
Dr. Phil was a great instructor. You do need to read the material from the book in order to do well on the Exams. If you like research and typing papers, this will be an easy class for you.
This guy is great! Take him if you get the chance! I took 316 over the summer and although it was a lot of work it was the BEST online class I have ever taken. How every online class should be with videos and discussions. Overall Dr. Phil is quite impressive in the field & as a professor!
I took Dr. Phil's class two years ago when I was at NIU i currently have transferred to DePaul but I have to say he was once of the best teachers I have ever had. He does not go strictly by the text so you need to read and if you have prior interest in Psychology you will do fine because he talks about ACTUAL "psych" events going on in the world
I took his online course and talk about easy! He is an easy grader. Every weekly assignment is a paper with thoughts/opinions on the materials provided. He is a great guy and seems to care about his students. He keeps class interesting. I am never bored writing my papers! I am taking another course with him next semester!
He was a horrible teacher! Not only did he waste class time by talking about things that aren't related to psychology, he was no help when we had questions. He does not check his email, he does not teach, and he has so much going on in his life he doesn't even know what you have and have not gone over. The only perk is open book midterm/final.
Easy class. Do the weekly assignments and you're set. Easy grader with open book midterm/final.
Took this 316 last semester and enjoyed the class, this semester was a different story. Was painful and yes his tests are open book, but he picked the most obscure facts to test us on. No study guides, is not very helpful with questions. Wouldn't suggest taking a class again with him.
Weekly "papers" - 2 pages reviewing the chapters and content given each week + a response to 2 peers. Face-to-face meetings are not necessary because he just talks about what we should already be reading. Do the assignments and you'll be fine.
I once raved of this man but after taking him again found many inconsistencies with his stories. 3-hour night class, no break. Spent LARGE amount of time on tangents. Powerpoints took forever. I'm a good student, but his exams ask the most obscure, horribly-worded questions. Very hard; would fail without open note. He has overworked himself. Mania!
His classes are easy! read the book because he doesnt teach much, just talks about random stuff.
Avoid this guy. He teaches 4-5 classes. Prefers phone calls over emails. Frequently changed due dates, length of paper due. He can be lenient but it's totally not worth it. Exams are open book but so obscure-it's a hunt to find the exact answers. Assignments due Monday at midnight. A horrible policy.
Dr. Phil here has his hands to many cookie jars which allows him to go of on tangents in class about random things not even relating to what we read the night before. He never tells us when papers until 3 days before the deadline. He will set you up for failure. SO my advice if you get Dr. Phil. go to class Read and study from the book.
Even though he sometimes may be unclear about what he wants sometimes, I absolutely enjoyed his class. He is a fantastic person and a genius in the field of Psychology. If you want to learn a lot and be completely interested during class, take him. Honestly, the smartest professor I have ever had. Loved, Dr. Phil!
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Phil and his lectures. He is a very intelligent man and is involved in a lot of things. His stories are interesting. I didn't mind when we went off on tangents because they were interesting. He seems to really care about what he does. I would take him again.
He was a fantastic teacher the 3 lectures we had in class. He was super interesting to listen to. He had us write a short paper about the readings, some articles, some youtube videos, and some other things each week. These were EXTREMELY easy and I STILL learned the information. I found the topics really interesting.
This class was easy but however I didn't care for his teaching style very much. Whenever you have a question and email him, he takes a week to respond and he doesn't really answer your question. Having to do a 5-7 page paper + final exam is a little much to do at the end of the semester. There could've been a little more variation with weekly hw.
This class was easy but however I didn't care for his teaching style very much. Very disorganized, and didn't answer your questions very well. We had to write 2-5 page papers for every week which is easy but too redundant, their could've been a little more variation. The assignments were time consuming and they were only worth ten points.
Dr. Phill may have a lot of experience in the field of psychology but teaching is not his forte. Attendance is mandatory, but he spends most of the lecture talking about sensationalized new stories rather than teaching the course. Exams are difficult; he chooses obscure questions from the textbook rather than questions meaningful to the course.
classes were a little boring but quite interesting. Tests were hard but hes pretty generous with the curve. There is a 5-7 page paper but it was not very hard. Make sure you attend class because you get attendance points
Great teacher, gets off track a lot but gives all the resources necessary to pass tests, many of which are open book. Open book final and he always curves tests.
He is nice and his assignments are relative and interesting. But he cannot be reached at all easily. Only by phone... sometimes. He's inflexible. Example: his in person lectures don't go over any material and he wont even let me, a commuter who needs to work that day, miss an in person "lecture" (pizza party) that takes place AFTER the final exam.
Mostly an online class. LOTS of homework BUT it was pretty easy stuff. Only had a midterm and non-accumulative final, both were open book. Unless you don't do the work or buy the book its pretty much impossible to fail. Phil is definitely busy and overworked though and seems to get his classes mixed up. Good guy though, very understanding.
He goes off on random tangents about technology and how your brain will soon be overcome by robots. Which last time I checked, doesn't correlate to behavioral disturbances in children. Although his tests are incredibly easy, and you can use the book on them, he's very unclear in lecture and almost impossible to get in contact with.
To be honest, he's a cool teacher. The only problem is he doesnt lecture about what is going to be on the tests or quizzes.
This is a class where you have to teach yourself and he will go over some points for clarification. He mainly talks about news and other people's research work, which is insightful, but irritating at times. I felt like he was more of a motivational speaker that really emphasized on health and positive affirmations. Funny guy and effective teacher
Be prepared to take lots of notes from the book and PowerPoints
Dr. Phil is really passionate about psychology and has a lot of real world experience. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to succeed. If you need help with anything he is more than willing to work with you and he provides opportunities for extra credit.
Absolute favorite psychology professor at NIU! I took every class he taught because of that !
He talks about his experiences, which are interesting, unfortunately, they aren't what we need to know. This is a self taught class. There are 2 reaction papers, and a few open books exams and quizzes. Go to class because he randomly takes attendance, which is worth 20 points/day. His lectures may not be relevant but they're interesting. got A
Dr. Phil is one of the best there is. Many years later I am still utilizing the life skills he passed along to me. He will teach you things that not will not only make you a better person, but life skills you can use in everyday life. When I had my first child I though back to Dr. Phil and what he had taught me and it made my life much easier.
Dr. Phil is an extremely interesting dude, and his viewpoints are very interesting. He talks a lot about his past experiences but they all relate to the class itself. He's a caring professor but keep in mind attendance does count for points.
Dr. Phil has interesting stories every day. Attendance is mandatory. He never really lectures about the content for introductory psychology. There are 3 papers, 2 exams, and couple of quizzes. The exams and quizzes are open book. The papers are graded pretty easy. The class is pretty easy.
He gets off topic A LOT but his stories are truly inspirational. He talks a lot about his real life experiences which can be helpful for psych students. Tests and quizzes are online which is nice but most of the content in the tests and quizzes are not covered in class.
Took his online class and there was a mistake on a homework assignment costing me 20 points and I emailed him for 3 months straight, called him many times, even emailed his TA all he ever said was that he would look at it. Terrible teacher who doesn't have time for his students.
Dr. Phil is a great teacher and his class is pretty straightforward. If you don't like to write papers then don't take this course because it all paper writing. However, this class was easy you just have to put in the work. I emailed his TA a couple of times and he was really helpful too.
This class is writing intensive, but don't let this scare you. It will make you a better student and a better person down the road for your career. I learned so much from this class it was amazing. I highly recommend Dr. Krasula to anybody taking a Psych course.
Dr. Phil is a great professor and knows how to keep the attention of his students. He is always there to help, reachable by phone and met me multiple times before or after class when i needed clarification on any matter of the class. Homework is not heavy, but there are tons of pop quizzes which makes it so that you have to stay on top of things.
I was intimidated by the amount of writing that was expected from this class. Im talking like 8 pages a week. BUT it is mostly all about your thoughts and opinions on things which makes it easy and fun to write. If you put the thought and effort in, you'll do fine. Plus, that's the only homework you have and two tests the whole semester.
Where to start? The guy is obviously out of his mind to subject people to writing 8-12 pages per week for an undergraduate-level course. He assigns at least 10 articles, video clips, podcasts, and chapters in different books. This is NOT a graduate level class. Don't teach it like it is. He's impossible to reach. Not good. Don't take this class.
I was super excited to take Dr. Phil since I heard great things about him from friends. I took his online class and will never take a class with him again. He is hard to reach and rarely answers his emails and prefers people to call him even though he doesn't answer. He also is NEVER clear on when things are due and often gets due dates mixed up.
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Phils class! The papers are long that are due every week but very easy to write! He tells you to read chapters are articles, but you can skim them and write a quote from it and be able to get 100%! I took it online! Very easy and he always answers emails and phone calls!
Dr. Phil is very knowledgable of Psychology. Weekly papers, 10 pgs each on average, plus a midterm and final. You can do very well if you try on the papers.
I actually took 2 classes from him at the same time because Im a pretty hard worker and figured whats writing a couple of papers every week. What I wasn't expecting was the massive workload, the inability to reach my professor at ANY time and the absolute joyless lit id have to read. I love taking an online class but I'd never do it again with him.
Dr. Phil gives incredible and personable feedback every week on the assignments. He gives you areas to improve on and tells you what you did well. Dr. Phil is truly inspiring and pushes his students to reach their learning potential, even if PSYC is not for the individual. One of my FAVORITE courses and professors at NIU!
I took this class online and it was great. 1 paper due per week BUT its all opinion based. He will give you resources and you just have to say how you felt about them and if you can relate to it at all. He was so helpful and nice throughout the semester and emailed often with compliments on papers. He was great, strongly recommend
Dr Phil was amazing. Make sure you complete all assignments and you are guaranteed to pass. Be ready to read and write papers, there is one due basically every week. He gives good feedback so you are able to do better on the next assignment.
Dr. Phil is great. He really wants all students to succeed. He provides clear expectations from the beginning. LOTS OF WRITING!
Dr. Phil is simply the best. He can get very off-topic during his lectures, but I believe I learned the most from his tangents! He's a fairly easy grader, but you will have to write quite a lot. His tests (if he has them at all) can be a bit difficult but he usually makes them open book. He never failed to make me laugh during class. Great guy!
Dr. Phil tends to go on a lot of tangents, but he is one of the sweetest & most caring professors I have ever had. I have taken two classes with him, Personality & Psychopathology, & they were both set up the same. He requires weekly papers, but they are so easy! Other than that he has a few random quizzes & exams that are all open note. Easy A!
A steady stream of homework each week - the papers mentioned here. They are 1 paragraph OPINION responses per reading for the week. SO easy if you've done ANY apa writing before, takes 1 hour/week, I was shocked by what some people wrote and got A's for on these. Do the 1 HW paper each week, 3 tests, 1 final paper & <5 min video, and get an A.
Nice guy, horrible professor. Weekly papers are unnecessary, deterring from learning content. Links and articles shared often dont work. You CANNOT get a hold of him. Its an online class, answer your emails. Prefers you call, never picks up, & asks for no vmails. Mixes up due dates, messes up grades. SO UNORGANIZED! Disappointing experience!
His class is straightforward, give a reflection on links and articles. Problem is, every class this man teaches, he has u write 3-5 pages min weekly. When talking 1 on 1, he barely tries to help. He is by far the worst communicator. Wants u to call but does not pick up. Hates emails, doesn't pick up, tells you not to text his number... The worst.
When I took this class, I wasn't expecting to have graduate level papers due every week. Dr.K isn't available for any questions and doesn't want to answer any questions involving grades or class work. He leaves any of those questions to the TAs and they usually don't respond for weeks on end! I would definitely not recommend this class to anyone!
He really respects students and wants to help the community. tons of experience. you need to call him if you have questions-no email. The 5 page weekly paper and final is based on your opinion on websites or videos like tedtalks.Takes 1-2 hours/week. Very organized & consistent. Those who dont like him probably overthink the assignments. very nice
Dr. Phil was a great teacher. The papers (5-7 pages) he assigned weekly were mainly opinion-based and were not hard to write. The final is a ten-page paper on any mental disorder plus a five-minute presentation. He will accept late work if you email him stating why they were late but try your hardest to turn everything in on time.
His lectures can get sidetracked, but they are always amusing and you will always learn something interesting and useful. Dr. Phil and his lectures stand as a reminder that psychology and academia don't have to be so stuffy. His lengthy writing assignments prepare students for the assignments given in grad school. This is underutilized in undergrad
An accelerated online course, so each week, 10pg papers. They were mainly personal reflection, though, so it wasn't too bad. He gave good feedback and a lot of praise, clearly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Didn't have to buy any textbooks! He gave us so many amazing, very educational, free online materials.
Dr. Phil sometime live lectures but it's not mandatory. He grades easily & provides feedback. Pefers phone calls over emails. Lots of papers and replying to peer papers. The topic of papers can be disorganized, people can write about whatever psych topic/article they choose at times so there's a lot of freedom to express yourself.
This was the easiest class I've taken. There's a paper due every week but it's not hard. You write a paragraph or two on the chapter from the textbook and a couple paragraphs about what you learned from the recorded lecture. It's basically a reflection. There's also a couple quizzes and exams. Very easy grader, if you put in the work you'll do well
Not a hard class, just a lot of writing. Syllabus was never updated from previous semester, and he did not double check assignments to make sure things were correct or accessible. If you are wordy or opinionated, you shouldn't have issues getting to the page count on assignments. But everything about how he organized this class was hard to follow.
The worst professor I have ever had at NIU. Extremely unorganized and does not like emails, but rather phone calls. The work given is very difficult and gets your grades and due dates mixed up way too often. The required in-person lectures we had were a complete waste of time. If you have the option to take this class with another professor, do it.
This was my second course with Dr. Krasula. There is a ton of material to read and A LOT of writing, but Dr. Krasula truly values his students and their thoughts. He is not a tough grader and offers tons of extra credit. Dr. Krasula went above and beyond to help me obtain honors credit when he did not have to. He is a very genuine and caring person
You learn so much in each class! This is a great professor!
I loved Dr. Krasula's class! The reflections are long, but they are not hard at all! This is a very flexible class, if you have questions, he prefers phone calls over emails, but make sure to ask your small groups first. There are only two exams; you get to work on it with your group, and it's open note! I would highly recommend taking his class
horrible, and hard to reach
no feedback and unclear instructions and makes using blackboard and reaching him a headache, take any other professor besides him
while there are alot of papers, Dr.Krasula is an extremely understanding & down to earth professor! He is an easy grader, he just wants to hear your thoughts & see how you're retaining the material. Don't be scared to reach out to him if you are struggling, he is very understanding & will try his best to meet you where you are.
A lot of work and a lot of writing with participation
Great lecturer. I took the one day a week course, so it was pretty long, but he has a lot of experience in the field and I learned a lot from the personal stories he told. I always left class inspired and excited about the field. Papers are sort of long but not hard at all. He just asks that you reflect on material. Tests are done with a group.
Dr. Krasula is a very passionate professor, typically regarding the success of the class. His assignments follow the same format, with one 4-5 page essay due every week. While these papers are simple to write, they are time-consuming. Dr. Krasula is difficult to get ahold of as he only takes calls. The layout of his coursework is also unorganized.
