Very funny guy, I've had a lot of Poli Sci teachers and he's the only one I would positively recommend by the end of the class!

easy but you can pick up a lot if you pay attention and actually care. kept me interested for the majority of the class time. also willing to discuss topics with you during and after class. funny at times as well

The class grade is composed of 3 exams(written & scan), 1 report, and 3 assignments. Prof. Saenz is a cool guy: open-minded to other's point of view, understanding in regards to absences, helpful, and does want everyone to do well. I learned a lot more in his class than in Nagao's. Doesn't hurt that he's cute, too.

Great professor. Does his best to make politics interesting. Still, students can learn something. The only way you can get anything lower than an A is by not trying, and even then, I don't see how anyone can fail his class.

Lets just say this, I got 1007 points out of his 1000 point grading scale. Millions of ways to get extra credit, as easy as hitting a wrong answer on his tests. You gotta work to fail this class.

Phil Saenz is an excellent teacher. Very clear, good examples, and the test is a blank study guide, so study it!! He gets you into Political Science because he relates it to the real world, so that it makes sense, and is clear.

Saenz is a good teacher. He is straightfoward and uncomplicated. Study what he gives you in blackboard. There is no textbook needed. He takes attendance in the beginning of the week. There is plenty of memorization, scantron test, and group assignments. I think the semi-hard part was memorizing the written exam stuff.

This is a class you will never mind going to. There is a lot of open discussion and Professor Saenz keeps the jokes coming... even if they're bad ones :) You'll learn a lot and have fun at the same time. The class is pretty easy so there is very little stress.

I had him for 101 and 102. Easiest classes you will EVER take, he GIVES YOU THE ANSWERS to the quizes, exams, and final! His jokes are funny, most of the time, and even though he is more liberal than me, I felt that I was pretty much getting an unbiased lecture, unless he says, "This is my opinion." Phil, is a very good teacher, he really cares if you do will for you can tranfer to a 4 yrs. He is answers your emails, as long as it is about the class, and keep the Blackboard up to date for you. But make sure you LISTEN to him and DO what he tells you! Yes he is very sexy!!

Took this class over the summer. Good teacher. No textbook required. He has all the material to read on Blackboard. He tells you exactly what what is going to be on the exams, so very easy A if you come to class and spend a little time reading his material. Only "hard" part of the class is the paper...make sure you have ALL of the requirements.

I took his class online and it was short term. I love it because there's no textbook required. He provides the reading material and you just gotta print 'em. They're about 20 pages each section (4 sections altogether). He's not the type that re-sets the test for you so BE VERY CAREFUL or go to the library when taking the test! Overall, he's easy

Took him as a fast track course online..he was great and pretty easy to understand, only had to email him once or twice with any questions. Didn't have to buy a book, which is nice. Would take him again definately. i think he makes a better online teacher than in class teacher though. ^.^

PS 101. -- Great teacher. Little arrogant sometimes but in a good way. Knows his stuff. Class consists of mostly open notes assignments, group projects, etc. Tests are pretty straight forward. He's a funny professor and knows his stuff about politics. His class is an easy A and the quizzes are similar to the exams. Make sure you spell check your PowerPoint presentations because he'll put you on the spot. I say take his class because it's interesting and the girls find him attractive.

BEST TEACHER EVER!! Seriously Phil is so great. I had little interest in politics before this class but it opened my mind so much. I learned an incredible amount of info. The quizzes are open material but you don't even need to look at your notes that much because Phil is such a good teacher you remember most of the stuff anyway. Loved this class.

I took the online course and it was very helpful, he doesn't require to buy a textbook, he gives you notes to study on. Throught the course you will need to participate in DB and do some quizzes, Mr. Saenz is always willing to help you with any Q. Take the class.

He was great to learn how the government and the political science is important for the elections coming up this year. It is explain in plain language so you can understand it without scratching your head what is he saying. Everything was online meaning NO TEXTBOOK.

Amazing teacher! He is so far the best teacher I have had in SWC. The teacher is hilarious and makes his class fun. Totally recommend anyone to take his class! :)

This is the best Professor at SWC! He is kind, nice , friendly, funny and humble. All you have to do is show up to class every day and study for the tests which by the way are not hard at all. Homework is important but easy. He makes you think before you say something he likes people to participate throughout his lectures. I Loved his class :)

This class was great. Although he's a tough grader he leaves comments on your paper and gives you multiple extra credit opportunities. He gets a little off topic sometimes. You get the grade that you work for basically. He does take the time to get to know his students.

Print the lecture notes, pay attention, study you'll be fine

I'm new to politics, but joining in conversations from this class was really edifying. He provides insight on your current stances, and tries to be unbiased about it so you can think for yourself. He's a great person to take if you're not even interested in politics, and he's passionate about his job. Keep up with his Ppt slides and you'll pass.

Great teacher, the best social science professor I've had. He has a great sense of humor and makes usually confusing stuff simple, for which I am grateful because P.S. is actually indispensable. He's strict on papers but fair; appreciates effort and participation. You'll do fine as long as you're responsible (he disapproves of procrastination) ;).

Outstanding teacher. He gives you the grade you earn. He provides all materials needed to pass. His lectures are on point and interactive. His humor keeps the class interested. He lets you know upfront whats expected of you. The fact that he provided all materials and did not need to buy a book shows commitment to students.

I took his PoliSci class way back in 1993, he makes it interesting to want to attend his sessions. I had no real understanding of PS until I took his course.

Professor Saenz Is a good professor. He gives you all the resources for all of his work. He is very informative, He gives extra credit, he is funny, and you will learn a lot about what is going on in the world.

He is a super sarcastic guy but in a good way. The reading materials are kind of long but sometimes funny because he would put in some funny comments. His lectures are funny, but you need to pay attention to what he says for the quizzes. The tests have questions from the quizz and the quizzes are open notes so take notes! Do research before hand!

I don't know what the others are talking about but this class is unbelievably easy. Instead of buying a textbook he provides one online he has made. He teaches what he tests. He does have 2 written tests, but they are all memorization. He provides extra credit and he allows some tests and quizzes to be open note and open class. Super cool professor

PROS: Gives lots of extra credit, extended deadlines, allowed notes for some exams, also allowed to work in groups on two tests due to covering a high amount of material and dealing with complex concepts. CONS: Takes attendance right on the hour. No study guides is what I disliked the most.

Every lecture he gives and the stuff he tells you to read read will be on a test, pretty straight forward. He made some test/quizzes more of a "group" project so their was no reason to fail them. He provides you with many sources and websites that will help you understand the class more. At times he had the whole class laughing. Totally recommend!

You get to talk a lot about politics that is going on right now in his class room sometimes it takes the whole class time but it's cool. If you say anything that doesn't make sense he WILL tell you. He's a funny guy but when it comes to trying to talk to him after class he's not really that approachable.

Class is very active with participation and lectures. Debates can occur in the class intertwined with the lecture of the day. Test, quizzes and homework are guided by the class lectures so make sure to pay attention. One research report in the class given notice ahead of time. If pass all the test and don't do report, will pass with B. Fall 2016

I have met other students who are majoring in Political Science & have complimented Professor Phil Saenz as one of the best Academic Professors that teach Political Science. He enables his students to learn & absorb the information he teaches. He has instilled greatness in his students. That is admirable. With Appreciation Thank You Professor!

TAKE THIS CLASS! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Prof. Saenz is a good Prof, but this class moves slowly. In my mind it was a HS civics class (Do they still teach those?) that could and should have been taught in half the time. If you've previously taken a U.S Govt. class this should be a piece of cake for you. Be careful of page length on the research paper. Too long Fail!

I'm happy to be a POLISCI major! This man is legit! Clear grading criteria, provides the reading material and then some! Exams, DB's gives the option to drop the lowest exam and take final for double the points. PAY ATTENTION TO DEADLINES! I wish he taught PS 103 and 104! Will definitely keep in contact for POLISCI success at SWC. Awesome person!

Saenz is a great teacher. His grading is explained so clearly, no one really doesn't have an excuse to do bad in his class. He has a couple of tests but he gives out guides for you to study. You also have one major essay and oral presentation, don't procrastinate on it! I did and it is exhausting. Overall great class, I'm taking him for 102!

Easy class all exams are true and false base. Before each exam he gives a quiz which have the same questions that the exam will. He even lets you use notes and partners. He offers so much extra credit that it can potentially raise you a full letter grade. Tends to ramble off topic a bit but its all world news. Super intresting and would take again

I'm a poli sci major, and I took both his 101 and 102 classes. They were so darn awesome, I wish I could take him again. There's so much to discuss, with what's currently happening in our politics, whether it's in the US, or internationally. You'll learn so much about government, I know I learned even more than what I knew! Wish he taught 103/104!

I love Professor Saenz. I learned so much in his class I wish I could take it again. He gives you everything you need to ace every test plus lots of extra credit. He's a funny guy & he actually lets everyone have their own opinions. He is one of the few professors left who you can express your views with & not worry about your grade!

To get an A is to read all the materials he gives you so that you can pass the test. Also, do the extra credit! He also lets you drop one test to double the points for your final.

He's a great teacher who gives you a closer look at current events. His class is easy and tests are as easy as it can get

Professor Saenz is a dedicated professor, he comes very well prepared to class ready to teach us and help us comprehend what he lectures about. I really like the way he sets up the class and involves us throughout his whole lecture. I never get bored, he keeps me interested through the whole class. You don't see many professors like him anymore.

Good things about Saenz. He provides everything; lecture notes and what to study. Take advantage of the extra credits which totally helps balance your grade. Took him for fast track and was the best. Several Discussion Posts and exams; exams are multiple choice & T/F Questions, some questions were confusing by the way he word them but really easy

Saenz is my favorite! The syllabus is clear, a few exams (open notes), oral presentation and report, research paper. Seems like a lot but goes by so fast and easy if you stay on it! Wish he taught 103-104!

Has a few discussion boards, 3 quizzes, 2 assignments, 1 paper and a final. Took this class as part of an 8 week program and it was perfect. Learned a lot, no textbook required, just read his reading materials and do all the work and you will be fine. Lets you drop one quiz or assignment and take the final for double points.

Super chill guy, totally recommend. He gives you the material that is going to be on the test so all you have to do is study it. There are a few homeworks but they are really not that hard. The essay does require effort and research but that's what college is about, and his standards aren't even that high. Easy A if you put in the work.

Professor Saenz is a cool, funny type of guy. His class is pretty good just show up and do the work. Instead of buying a book, he tries to save students money by making his class material printable off of canvas. He also have videos for his materials. Had difficulties understanding some of his instructions but I always reached out for clarification

If you're looking to fulfill another transfer requirement, get an easy A, and boost your GPA, this is a great class for you. Although this was just a gen ed for me, I still left the class having learned things about politics, the politics of where I live, and the structure of government. So long as you complete & try on everything, you'll get an A.

Saenz really knows what he is talking about, and grants him an applauding ovation for his informative teaching methods. I recommend going to lecture as well as watching his lectures that he provides via canvas. The exams are incredibly easy as long as you watch these videos and take notes. He also provides numerous attempts to achieve extra credit.

If you do the work and pay attention in class, it's an easy A. Would take his courses again!

Professor Saenz is an excellent professor. He explains everything well and in depth. Class discussions are interesting and always helpful. He is a funny guy so the lectures are fun. He also teaches PS102 and I'd say the same about both courses. He is also great at responding to emails in a timely manner.

It was my second time taking this course, it is easy to fall back since the material is quite easy. He gives 4 extra points in tests including the final. You can also drop an assignment and take the final for double. Gives a lot of extra points. No late work accepted. Tests are 100 questions long with a time limit of 1hr and 30 mins. Overall good.

Ive taken two of Phils classes, and he is one of my absolute favorite teachers on campus. I always want to show up to his class. Hes funny, easygoing and extremely organized! Ive learned a ton from his class and hope everybody gets a chance to take him. Lots of group work and participation makes it really engaging.

Professor is hilarious, really nice and he cares about his students. The tests and quizzes are easy because he gives you all the questions for you to answer, so you know what to expect. You do have to do some homework, essays and presentations. If you put attention, do your homework and study a little you will do great. Ask questions.

I'm not a big fan of political science but prof. Saenz's class was the best course I have attended during this semester. Like most professors that I have encountered during my two years at SWC, he showed the best qualities that any truly passionate teacher has - Being inspirational, charismatic, and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!

The perfect class to take if you need for GE requirement. This class will teach about politics that we see nowadays, and the most challenging thing is the research essay (start doing ASAP). The professor is clear with the teaching, and he provides tools such as links & videos with the purpose of completing the course. If you want to learn, take it.

I took Saenz for the online spring intercession. From the first day, he had all the assignments & tests listed, so there were never any surprises as far as due dates. He emailed us every day to remind us about chapters & assignments as well as news he thought was relevant. Do the work and you'll pass! He will also answer any questions you have.

Great teacher! very caring when it comes to the subject. Had him during the Kavanaugh hearings, we had tons of in class discussion over the current political climate. You can tell he cares about the subject, his material was always great. Could say enough great things about the guy. Study, do the work and ace the test you'll do fine.

The assignments are up at the beginning of the semester. However, he grades extremely hard. He would remove points if you did something wrong even though his instructions are unclear. Do all the extra credit! Do all the assignments & go to the lecture, this will help you on the tests! Do not miss any assignment, I believe you can get an A.

Professor was very informative and is very passionate about politics. As a Public Administration major I enjoyed his lectures and his assignments that help you understand government and politics better. If I could take his course again I would. There is also extra credit given.

Professor Saenz is a very strict grader. His assignments are doable but his lectures are honestly boring. You can get an easy A, if you actually read the materials and do not miss any of the discussion boards. Make sure to do your best in his class or else you will fail.

Professor Saenz is a tough instructor but as long as you do the work and study, you'll be fine. He does assign a LOT of reading (but gives a good amount of time to finish) so I would recommend taking this class if your other classes have light workloads.

He is a great teacher and he's funny so he keeps class interesting. I thought political science 101 was very similar to political science 102. The class was not hard.

Professor Saenz is a really smart teacher. I am a political science major(law). So, I might be biased, considering I enjoy learning what he teaches. But, I highly recommend him to anyone whos willing to listen. He has been my favorite teacher so far. I hope he keeps up the good work.

He is one of the greatest professors at SWC. He is a strict grader on essays, but you can get an easy A if you read the materials and watch videos in modules. There are two group projects, and these are really helpful for exams. I'd like to take his class again!

He's passionate about his work, informes you well on political spectrum but is not one of those who instigates on changing your mind. He actually opens your mind.

His class had the most clear instructions on work. His lectures were meaningful and relevant. The topics of the exams matter. You can study within a group, and you can chat in class over the material. The best poli sci course you can find!

This class was the best of my semester. The instructions were clear, we were encouraged to work in groups, and the lectures were interesting and captivating.

He was charismatic, engaging, and he presented a clear grading criteria. He encouraged us to work in teams, and It really helped raise my grade in the class. Better than most poli sci professors on campus for sure!

The GOAT! This was my favorite class in all two years I spent before I went on to transfer to another university! The work was so fair, I could not even bother writing the midterm essay! The tests were multiple choice, but he did have us be in groups, and he highlighted the answers for us! His jokes were hilarious! Just study essay questions!

Extremely patient, and gives clear instructions on work. The lectures include documentaries that we can watch. The midterm essay was fun, and not difficult at all! He offered extra credit in November if you offered canned good donations to a charity.

His lectures were great! I enjoyed the class thoroughly and he was amusing. All of the assignments are pretty straightforward. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, the assignments and readings are easy. The class helped me to connect government and politics to real-world issues and I recommend it to anyone.

Assignments are long but very clear to do, exams are anywhere from 50-100 questions but he tells you what module to look the answer from, also provides study guides. He provides good feedback on anything you get wrong. I would take this professor again.

Lots of HW, but they are straightforward. Professor Saenz is very caring and willing to help you if you need help. Super nice and cares a lot about his field. Very interesting subject, and you can learn a lot if you do the assignment sand watch the videos he sends out.

His class is super structured and easy if you read the required materials which are not long at all. tests are long but all multiple choice.

Professor Saenz keeps his PS102 class engaging with captivating lectures and group work. The multiple-choice exams are easy if you study the essay questions, and unstuckstudy ai is a great tool for test prep.

He's a very good professor who knows a lot about Political Science. The grading was fair and the quizzes came entirelly from the readings (he provided pdf). There was one report but we could drop the grade for that and double our final points (the final was as easy as the other quizzes). Offers a lot of exra credit

It's a good teacher, sometimes his explanations are not clear but the whole class was ok, he has around 2 different extra credit assignments throughout the semester (use them).

It's a fairly easy class. The professor supplies the reading material in modules and lecture slides. Passive Aggressive? A smidge, but nothing that is worth whining about. Grade is really heavily based on tests but the tests are multi choice and lots of extra credit. No late work submissions, but no timed tests and good extra credit opportunities

Professor Saenz is the best PS professor available. I took 101&102 and would've taken him for 103&104 if I could. The assignments outside of the quizzes are a little stricter, and you will lose points if you don't follow his instructions. Just make sure to be detailed and implement all the requirements for those assignments and you will do great.

I took PS 101 and 102 because the professor is truly great. I learned a lot in both classes. You can tell he's really passionate about politics, and that makes his classes very interesting and engaging.

The best professor! I took PS 101 and 102, I wish I could've taken PS 103 and 104 with him. His assignments are fairly easy, honestly just show up pay attention, do the work and you'll get and easy A. He gives an opportunity for you to replace a grade on an exam therefore if you bomb one you can still pass.
