Loved taking this class from Phil. Really low-key, funny, and practical class. Phil maintains a low-stress atmosphere, while giving practical and helpful feedback on each person's public speaking style. Highly recommend.

Phil is a competent yet casual teacher, giving the class a more relaxed feeling. While I would normally be nervous for every speech assignment, I felt acceptance and support from both the teacher and fellow classmates. The skills learned are invaluable to the many opportunities present and future. Great boost to my GPA too! Highly recommended.

Phil's the best. His class is fun and by the end of it your public speaking skills will be superb and if not at least you'll have had a good time. His feedback can be direct so watch out if you have thin skin, but its really helpful.

Youre grade is based solely off of the speeches you give. But Phil doesnt want you to hate your life and takes a lot of the stress out public speaking. He expects you to try and do your best and will give feedback, but hes not going to rip you apart. Honestly this was was a stress relieving class for me and had so much fun taking from him!

Very friendly and fun teacher. He gives good feedback on speeches. Assignment load isn't bad either for a 3 credit class. I would recommend this teacher and class to everyone.

Phil was an amazing teacher! There were a couple events which we had to show up to outside of class which were inconvenient (I was marked down for not going because I had a class during these times), but Phil works with you to figure it all out. He gives constructive feedback, and his classes were always entertaining. Easy class, and worth the time

depending on how easily you can speak infront of others this class is super easy. you give 6 or 7 speeches throughout the semester and are graded solely on whether or not you stand up and say words. You're given feedback but that doesnt affect the grade. The teacher is super relaxed, knows his stuff and is pretty funny.

Phil Clark is literally the GOAT. He is super chill but is really helpful when it comes to learning how to be a better public speaker. The class is really light, just make sure you try on your speeches each week and you'll get an A. For real though, take this class if you want to learn, have fun, and get an easy 3 credits of A to boost the GPA.

This class is great. I was going to drop out of it because I hate public speaking but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. You get to know all the people in your class really well and make great friends. I learned a lot and met a lot of super cool people!

This class is awesome!! I would highly recommend. Phil is super awesome, the class is not hard at all, and I learned a lot! All you need to do is follow the criteria for the speeches and you will get a good grade in the class. The class was also really social and super fun because everyone becomes friends and you get to support each other!

Best class at BYU hands down. Phil is the chillest but actually helps you improve on your public speaking skills. He's really understanding too which is great because we all have other classes that are really heavy and he gets that. If I could take this class every semester I would. Great if you want to improve public speaking or speech writing skills. Each week you are assigned a different style of speech to prepare for the next class. You will get an A in the class even if your speech sucks. As long as it is on topic, within the time requirement, and is the correct style. Super chill and fun class, you will learn a lot.

This class was one of my favorites. I'm a firm believer that you should take a class like this every semester that you can truly enjoy and not worry too much about the grade. Phil was kind and honestly just cared that we got better at speaking. Our class became such good friends and he facilitated a good atmosphere. Take public speaking from him!!

Professor Clark is FANTASTIC!! Super nice and helpful with the feedback he gives. Class is super interesting and important to take for the future! He really makes sure the speeches are oriented towards times in the future when you might need to be ready to speak. Speeches almost every week, but super chill class makes speaking not as horrifying.

Phil is awesome. I took the class for an easy A but I also wanted to get better at speaking in groups. This class fulfilled both. It was a little frustrating at first because he's not easy to please and he's a harsh critic but it pushes you to be better. If you take his feedback and show improvement you'll do great.

Public speaking with Phil was such a good experience! He is very experienced in the subject and is also such a cool guy. There were only a few lectures which he gave from memory and background basically. Class was just once a week, and most of the time we presented speeches that we prepared the week before. It goes fast and you improve a lot!

Public speaking with Phil was a great class! The way he grades the class allows you to learn a lot and receive lots of good feedback as well as a good grade.

First off, the way he inputs the grades, it's basically a pass/fail, except if you pass you get an A. Simply put you are guaranteed an A for this 3 credit class There's only like 5 or 6 speeches and they're pretty easy. Just prepare a little bit and breathe. If you're looking for a chill class, take this from him. Good practice and a chill time

It was a chill class. He is a great and funny teacher and he makes things interesting. I wish I could've gotten more specific feedback on my speeches to know exactly how to improve, but I still felt like I became a better public speaker.

It is a very useful class and the only work is to prepare a speech or presentation pretty much weekly.

This class was actually pretty fun and it was a relief that he didn't require much homework or testing. Professor Clark is super nice! Sometimes I felt like I didn't know exactly what was expected to me, but if you refer to your notes and ask him questions, you'll get along fine.

I really enjoyed taking Public Speaking with Professor Clark. I feel like I definitely improved and grew as a speaker in this class and Professor Clark does a good job to help you feel comfortable speaking in front of the class.

Honestly probably one of my favorite classes that I've ever taken in the three years that I've been at BYU. Professor Clark just cares about your progression and effort, what education should actually be about. I think also more than any class you get out of this one what you put in. So put in the effort and you'll enjoy it.

This class was super easy and very beneficial! You give 6 speeches over the semester (none of them longer than 5 minutes). An A is 70%, so the easiest 3 credits you will ever take. Class generally got out early too, which was awesome.

Amazing class. Definitely difficult in a different way, meaning that I didn't have a lot of homework or quizzes to study for. Instead, you have to get up in front of the class every week and give a speech and receive feedback. Obviously can be nerve-wracking, but you can get so much out of the class. Def recommend

Professor Clark is pretty chill! Your weekly assignment is to prepare for your next speech. At first you may feel like you don't know what you're doing, but just ask questions! He was pretty quick to respond to emails I sent. Also, after every speech he gives feedback on a rubric. Look at the rubric! Stick to the rubric and life will be good!

Professor Clark cares most about your individual ability to deliver a speech. His grading criteria and teaching style are more oriented towards personal progress rather than mindless standardized testing. I felt that he conducted the class exactly how I would want a STDEV class to be conducted.

He was so kind! Only one class a week but for three hours. It was a bit long but we usually got out early. We had about 1 speech a week and he was really nice with his grading! 100% you should take this class from him.

This is a super fun class! Professor Clark is nice and understanding and funny. Just once a week for 3 hours, you just have to write a speech each week, easiest 3 credit class! I loved listening to all my classmates' speeches. He has a very clear rubric. I improved each time I gave a speech and was so proud of the final speech I gave! No final :)

Phil is incredible! I am a huge fan of his class, and of him as a person. His class helps you to become a better, more confident, and more prepared public speaker. Attendance is crucial in this class to succeed. The only homework required outside of class is preparation of your speech for that week. One of my favorite classes & professors at BYU.

Super nice guy. Expect to give a speech about every week. He grades them pretty hard with a 3 point rubric, but luckily he curves the class grade so an 80% is an A. This class was my lowest grade, but I didn't have to worry too much because I knew the curve would come in clutch.

Phil is great!! Come to class, prepare for your speeches, and pay attention to where you have been docked points so that you can improve in those areas. Not difficult to get an A, he just wants to see that you have been pushing yourself and have been growing throughout the semester. The topics are very open, so be creative and have fun with it!

I learned a ton from his class, my ability to speak in front of a crowd has gotten so much better, as well as my confidence in my ability to crack a joke and speak to the needs of a specific crowd. The class has honestly the least time intensive class I have taken at BYU--only 30 minutes outside of class to plan each speech.

Professor Phil is awesome! This class does require you to put in effort and work because you have to give a speech almost every class, but as long as you put in the effort you will receive the grade that you want. This can be a no stress class if you just stay on top of your work! 10/10 recommend!

Phil is a great professor! Classes were basically showing up and giving a speech (typically 5 mins) and listening to everyone else's speeches. Only classwork is writing/practicing your speech and giving it. No tests, etc. He's really chill and easy to work with. I would highly recommend taking it will Phil!

Grade is completely based off of performance in speeches, however it is still possible to get an A if you are not a great speaker. No homework. Class one day a week.

There are 7 total speaches that you have to prepare.He helps you know what you need to prepare. If you want feedback make sure to ask him right after class or else he'll forget. Attendence is reccomended, but you can make up your speach the next week. He is super nice and funny. All you need to do is try your best to improve and you'll get an A

Really good professor and a really easy A. You have to give a new speech every week so attendance is recommended but you can also make up the speech the next week if you can't make it. When I say lecture heavy, I mean constantly listening to other students' speeches. It can get long and boring. That has nothing to do with Clark. He's a good professor. Gives upfront feedback on our speeches that pushed me to try and do better. Can sound discouraging but it's not.

Super chill class, all you do is give a quick speech each time and their is a final presentation night at the end of the semester.
