He is a famous economist! A fantastic instructor and a extremely nice and caring guy.
He is a best Prof @ BSU, his classes are never boring. He makes learning fun, also has a great sense of humor.
His lectures jump all over the place, tough to follow at times, and grading scale still doesn't make sense to me and it's been 2 years since I had him!

Unbelievably funny and genuinely interested in his field. No, he's not going to talk about every last detail: that is why you buy the books and read them.

I'm pretty sure he's actually insane. He never made any sense. You learn from the book not from him. Don't expect to go to class and have anything clarified-do it on your own. He gives the option of making the final worth 100% since so many people have quiz averages of 40% come midterm. He's funny and totally out there, but not an organized prof.

This guy is certifiably insane. I love his class, it's not too hard, and I think you learn a lot from it, but he's pretty crazy. Small woodland creatures in underpants. Threesomes with Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears. Hookworm.
a favorite of mine. funny, smart, awesome lectures, (i would listen to him lecture even if i wasnt getting a grade) tough but fair grading (have to really work if you want an a), puts alot of effort into grading papers, makes you think about the material.
Tough professor to have for a beginner level class, he explains class material at a 300 or 400 level. Would not recommend taking 201 from him; however, he was enjoyable in class. Makes lots of jokes and all the class material is in the study guides, just not easy to follow his lectures.
Brilliant Man! Insane too, but he's a great prof and even if you don't understand what the hell he's talking about, he's entertaining as hell.
Like everyone else says... he is crazy! But really knowledgeable. I have learned more in this class than any other class on campus. I recommend him for Econ because it is a complicated subject and he makes it enjoyable.

He always kept the class interesting. Likes to go on long tangents about what seems to be nothing but if you pay attention he starts to make sense. Buy the study guide and you'll do fine
He is great and keeping your attention with his crazy ramblings. He also makes the class fun and very clear about what he expects. The tests are not too bad especially if you go to the study sessions. He also gave us the option to replace our grade with the final grade if so chose. I took the class in the summer so I dont know about other sessions

He is really funny and he knows his stuff. However half your grade is quiz averages and half is the final which is alot of pressure....i would try to get someone else

Good teacher and very entertaining. His lectures are hard to follow, so make sure you read the book and study guide.
If you have a bit of prior knowledge about economics then this prof will help you understand even more indepth, however for people who know nothing about econ, perhaps try someone else. Overall great prof, I thought. His quizzes are relatively easy, as long as you buy, and use the study guide. 100% quizes/test, there's no homework.

"Count the damn boxes" Funny guy, slightly annoying, likes to use profanity to keep the class' interest. No homework, grade = weekly 'pop' quizzes with the option to substitute the final for grade. He uses a messed up grading scale; 80-100=A, 70-80=B, and so on.
This man is RIDICULOUS. So many good stories to tell friends. Learned a lot about economic history. Thought I was going to get a C+ in the class but I ended up getting an A after it was all said and done. It challenged me and I grew because of it. Also there is a book report that is difficult to write. Be aware.

Professor Coehlo makes Economics a very enjoyable topic. I found his stories hilarious and was very entertained. USE YOUR STUDY GUIDE! Almost all quiz questions can be found in the study guide. Some of the quiz questions are difficult, but he reviews questions that were missed and explains them to you.
"Back in the day, when I like overdeveloped women from underdeveloped countries." Quote perfectly summarizes this man. He is freaking hysterical, his lectures are interesting, and he knows his stuff. Class is hard, but if you use the study guide you will be fine. Thank god he changed his grading scale though.
Use the study guide and do the problems in the handouts and you are almost guaranteed a B or better.
This class felt like my longest class ever. He says "um" at least 50 times a class session, and he isn't very helpful when it comes to explaining things. I'm lucky I had economics in high school.
Basically every class consisted of him drawing graphs on the board that didn't pertain to what we were being tested on every week. Not that good at explaining things, which made it harder since I never took Econ in High School. Pointless "pop" quizzes every week, assigned seating, "Um" used to many times. I dropped it - best decision ever.
Easy grading scale of 80% A, 70% B and so on... If you pay attention and follow along in class you will do just fine. Many people get confused but I think this is because they stop paying attention. If anyone tells you its hard or he sucks they are just not good enough in school to handle the way he teaches. He is also pretty damn funny.
Easy A. Dont need to buy the textbook. Quizs are always base on guide book, nice professor
Crazy and tests describe him and his teaching. you never will have homework but you have 13 tests worth 50% of your grade and the final is worth the other 50%. He is really funny but teaches you NOTHING!!!
TERRIBLE professor. He gives "pop quizzes" nearly every week over content he doesn't cover. The class constantly has to correct him because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Excessive cursing. Don't take this class. Save yourself the time, frustration, and confusion.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I learned so much in this class and his sense of humor is hilarious. People that don't like him probably don't get his sarcastic jokes. You will need the book for this class because the weekly quizzes are mainly from the book. If you come to class it would be difficult to get anything below a B.
Professor Coelho is a great guy! There are quizzed every week that comes from the study guide. Great sense of humor and lots of jokes. Quizzes and your midterm/final are the only grades. Final is worth either 50% of your grade of 100% of your grade. You get to choose.
Not an easy class at all. But Econ is tough regardless. Final is worth 50% of your grade unless you choose 100%. That while situation is just nerve wracking. Quizzes every week that make up the other half. Very funny and smart guy. Knows his stuff. You'll learn a lot in his class. Buy the workbook! It will save your life. Grading scale will too
Tough class! Studying is a MUST! Do what he tells you, which is use the books and you will succeed! It doesn't have to be too hard. It's what you make it by your commitment to study. His grading scale is a huge help and there is a quiz every week! The final is worth 50% of your grade which can be never wrecking. He's hilarious and brilliant
Ok Coelho is a crazy guy. He makes plenty of jokes (often distasteful), and ends up ranting for most of the class. Final grade is 50% quizzes and 50% final exam which is made up of questions straight from the quizzes. Easy grading scale 80% is an A. While he was entertaining, I didn't end up learning anything except how to pass his class...
One of the best profs I've had at Ball State. His lectures are sometimes all over the place but he is a genius and I learned a ton about Econ history. I think about the world differently thanks to his class. Your critical thinking will be put to the test but isn't that what college is all about...
Do not take his class. he tells you to read the book, but to not use the formulas in the book because he makes up his own. Very difficult to comprehend.

This class is really easy, people are just unmotivated to use the review book. Just glance over it before the quizes and you will do fine. Almost everything the teacher does it to get you a good grade
Amazing teacher! He is very good at explaining things over and over again in different ways. He is very helpful and drops quizzes at the end. He allows you to use a cheat sheet on all quizzes and the final!
Terrible professor. Sure he made some good jokes, but not worth the frustration of sitting through lectures that he does not test over. Do yourself a favor and try to find another prof. It's in your best interest to do so.

I had him for 202 and your grade is based on 10 quizzes and a final. You take 14 quizzes altogether and he drops the lowest 4 to boost your grade a bit. Just please read the study guide and take the tests in the back of the study guide and go to his office hours if you need the extra help he's nice and he's willing to help.
He sounded like a guy that knew his topics, but the way he explained things was very difficult to understand. He is really old and used non applicable examples in class. The class was really hard because of him. His attendance policy is dumb. Do not take this guys classes.

Overall he was a good professor, he gave pop quizzes every single week which means that you have to stay on top of your reading. He's a clown and makes a lot of jokes in class too
Super funny guy, but this class is awful. Weekly quizzes on content that we don't go over. Super confusing class and he doesn't help out much with your questions. Don't take this class.
DON'T TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES. He doesn't know how to teach. There are quizzes every week that are worth 50% of your grade and the final exam is worth the other 50%. Doesn't answer questions well or even use Blackboard. Might say one helpful thing each class but gets off subject the rest of the time. Get ready to teach yourself the whole class.
I really did not like Coelho as a professor at all. He is very hard to pay attention to because he always gets offtrack. Honestly my average quiz grade was 510 and I studied. BUY THE STUDY GUIDE. He allows you to take the final for however much you want it.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES! He just rambles. and doesn't specify what chapter his "lecture" is covering. 50% of your grade is based on quizzes given weekly, and the other 50% is the final
NOTE: His grading method is (#RIGHT-#WRONG)/TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE. It makes the class stressful, so be careful. If you read the book and listen to his lectures, though, it's a pretty interesting class. He's definitely a character, so the lectures are pretty entertaining. I would take another one of his classes just for fun.
All grades are based on quizzes and tests. Syllabus doesn't match up to what chapter you are doing, so you don't know what the quiz will be over. Avoid if possible. He'd be a 5 if he told us what the quizzes went over.
This class should be somewhat easy, but not this this teacher. He is extremely difficult to pay attention to, hard to learn from, and get off subject at least 5 times a minute. He has weekly quizzes that are hard to study for, mostly because he doesn't tell you what it will be over. I wouldnt ever recommend this teacher to anyone.
Don't even waste your time with this professor, go with someone else.
He's overall a pretty funny guy and doesn't try hard to be liked by his students. He does his own thing and that's ok sometimes but after awhile it can get old. Would recommend him over some of the other Econ teachers. Don't buy the book just get the study guide, all his quizzes come right from that.
he is not that bad. People just do not want to work hard. You have quizzes every week( only 10 questions, really easy), YOU ARE GIVEN THE ANSWERS IN YOUR STUDY GUIDE. Your grade is made up of 50% quizzed 50% final. He drops like 6 quizzes too. It's overall really easy as long as you study the study guide before class!! take him to avoid real tests
Mr. Coelho's lectures are entertaining, but he almost always gets off topic or uses examples that aren't easy to understand. His class is 50% quiz grades and 50% final exam, so theres not a lot of room to miss points. His syllabus doesn't line up with what he says quizzes will be over and I had to teach myself most of the material from the book.
Pop Quizzes sneak up on you. Some are tough too. Also, on the quizzes you have things that you never even talked about.
Skip class? You won't pass. Go to class? You still won't pass. I did not understand a single concept that this man "taught." All of his teaching is through examples. Quizzes always include questions on topics that have not been talked about, let alone taught.
Microeconomics is hard in general. Coelho acts as if this is the easiest class at the University. He can also be very insulting. He calls on random students during class and asks them questions. If they are wrong, he makes them feel stupid (he even asked someone how they got into the University). He's very rude!!! NO TO COELHO!
Absolutely do NOT take Coelho's class. There are no notes to follow; he only rambles and writes illegible words on the board. He is very rude and offense and makes comments that are not appropriate for class. He acts as if the material should be obvious to everyone and he does not care when everyone fails the quizzes. Worst class I have ever taken.
This class is extremely hard. Even if you study some things do not clik and the quizzes never correlates with the syllabus. You can study chapter 12 and the quiz be 15. The final is worth 50% of your grade. But he is an interesting teacher his lectures woth keep entertained
He sucks
I've never had a professor more ill prepared and unorganized. He goes into every class not knowing what he wants to accomplish, so he wastes time by over explaining simple concepts, or tell pointless stories. For some reason he waits until after the quiz to teach you the material. He once said "I'm too old to change the way I teach." Avoid him.
