HE IS KINDA CUTE, AND HE IS VERY NICE. HE REALLY SEEMS CONCERNED THAT YOU PASS AND ARE LEARNING THE MATERIAL! HE MAKES HISTORY INTERESTING, AND HIS TESTS ARE EASY(IF YOU STUDY THE EASY NOTES!)!
His class was the worst History class ever presented. His lecture was extremely boring and it was as if the textbook was talking.
The worst teacher i have ever had! He needs to go back to teach grade school. He insults students, and bores you to death! worst of all: attendance is required!!!! i urge you to take someone else!
I would rather read straight from the book 3 hours a day, than listen to this clown.
Very Bad Teacher! He will not help you outside of class, His test seem to be easy, but no one ends up making the grade they should make. I got a B. He reads his lecture straight from his notes, so does he really know what he's talking about? NO!!!!!!
His class is the worst. He will be happy to give you a C on everything you do no matter how good it is. He is insulting, uninteresting, and an overall horrible teacher. If you really want to learn and do well, take someone else.
This is a very understandable instructor and his lectures are easy to understand and very informative. He truly cares if you pass and he will help you after class. He offers quizzes to make sure you are following along with him and they are easy.
davis seems okay...i'll update after the first test..at least he tries to make it interesting
Boring class. No major studying required.
His class was very boring, but he gives study guides on his test!!! He is just very boring.
Really knows his stuff; especially about Southern History. Goes out of his way to help you if you ask for help. Tells great stories and uses videos, too. He is single, drives a nice car, has never been married; would make a great catch!!!
Class would be better if it wasn't 3 hours long, but other than that, Great class. Gives a Study guide for the test, which is basically a replica, have to write 2 or 3 papers, which aren't all that hard and kind of fun. A movie or two, would take again
Good teacher, a little boring. He takes role so you have to show up. Gives a study guide, would take again!!
I think that he is a very interesting teacher who loves what he does. If you think that a class is hard just because you have to study than you need to be someplace else.
Professor Davis is an excelent teacher who realizes that his course is not any more important than other courses at Tech. He is willing to help you out and it is impossible to fail his class.
Prof. Davis is a really good teacher. He goes over everything at a perfect pace and is very helpful. He actually replies to emails! He really likes to teach and does a good job of it. I would take him again.
He gives you everytihng you need and helps you out when you need it. Hell, he'll just about do anytihng to help a student. Two papers in his class, two tests. That's about it.
Great Intsructor! Can ramble sometimes. Take a lot of detailed notes. dont ever miss a class.
He is an awesome teacher! I am taking his class next semester, too, because he is so good! He makes history a lot of fun, and you get to watch movies!
Davis is THE ****. He'll help you any time you need it and WANT you to succeed. That's the difference you seldom notice in teachers. Me; I appreciated the time he took and the way he loved the subject. He's REALLY cool.
Awseome teacher. Really wants students to do well. Go to class and take notes and you will do well. Only 2 tests and 2 papers. Definietely take him if you have to have History! Liked him so much I am taking again for 2020.
Awesome teacher. His classes are fun. His lectures are well formatted (and he hands out great study guides and notes) though he can sometimes ramble. He will do ANYTHING he can to make sure you get the most fair grade possible. The only problem I had was that he tended to look only at one side of the class room when lecturing, so raised hands was sometimes not enough to get his attention although when you did get his attention, he was as helpful as he could be.
An Excellent teacher. His tests were challenging but the format lends itself to an "A" if you know what your doing. His lectures include everything you ever needed "or wanted" to know about American history and you will come away with an actual undderstanding of the material. He is very helpful, intelligent and friendly aqd I highly recommend him.
Professor Davis talks a LOT!!! Be prepared to take at least three to four pages of notes every class. His tests are not hard and he reviews well for them, but there's only two so study!! Don't miss class and take clear notes. He rambles sometimes but it could be a lot worse.
I loved his class.... He is very helpful and he rly does want ppl to learn and do well n his class.... He will help you n anyway poss. I would suggest taken him.... However, he does give alot of notes, and he does get off topic alot, but I think it is jus because he loves what he does and wants to share it with his class.... He is very sweet..
Great person who is passionate about teaching. I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone. Be prepared to take a lot of notes **Avg of 8-15pgs a night**, has only 2 test but is NOT out to fail anyone. Really helpful, enjoyable to watch and listen. Does ramble, but that is ok.
He is a great teacher. He talks alot so you have to talk notes fast, but I would suggest taking him to anyone. I never liked History, but he made it fun for me. He loves what he does and you can tell. He will help you if you don't understand. You now have 3 test and 1 paper and that's all the grades so be prepared for the test.
Good teacher. Hes super nice and really helpful. I guess you could say he really has a passion for history so sometimes he rambles on and keeps you a little after class. Overall though he is good.
I've always hated history, but this guy made it interesting! He's very nice and loves history which is a good thing. If you are not sure about a subject that is on the study guide for the test, he will help you with it. Loved him so much that I'm taking him for History 2020. 3 hours in a night class with him once a week is worth it!
If you have to take History 2010 then get in Davis' class. He lectures on everthing that is on each test and even gives you a study guide that has all the things on it you need to study for the test. He is very fair on his grading system as well. The only down side is that you will probably get out of class a little bit late.
I loved his class the first time so much I took him again. He is the best teacher I have ever had. All that I did was take notes, studied the study guide and had him explain what I didn't understand before every test and I always made A's. I couldn't have asked for a better prof. I would take him for any class and would recommend him to anyone. :)
This is the best teacher ever! He is so interested in what he teaches. I take a 3 hour night class which would be AWFUL if he wasn't an awesome teacher. Its not a hard class at all and he tells you exactly what will be on the tests. All you do is take notes...lots of notes. But he's great, I would definately recommend him!
Amazing teacher. I went in to this class loathing history and now I love it. He talks a little fast and you can't always write down everything he says but he'll go over stuff again if you need it. Tests aren't too hard, but you do need to know your stuff. Works with you a lot if you need help. I wish he taught 2020.
Very good teacher. Gives you a study guide before each test and it has everything you need to know on it including the essay questions. You have 3 tests and one paper.
So he loves to talk, small price to pay for a teacher with a genuine concern for his students ' best interest. 3 tests and a paper. Paper and 2 tests count 60%, final 25%, and 15% from weekly responses to questions (attendance) He grades a little tough on the paper and test essays. I am taking him again for Hist. 2010.
Worst teacher ever had in college. Better of just reading the book on yourown the whole semester. Will read directly from the book and seems to have no interest in his own field. Aviod at all costs.
A great professor, really knows his stuff and definitely is interested in the field. His study guides for tests are great, but beware, he does have maps and you will have to have some map-savy. Overall, just take notes and study the test guide and you should do fine, great teacher.
Knows what he is talking about... and talks alot. Study guides for the 3 test which have everything you need to know. Large Lecture class with no essay questions. Pay attention and take notes and you will not need to read the text book.
History is really boring. I went to class some and listened and took notes. Looked a lot of the information off of the study guide up on the internet. Not a very hard class. Don't expect him to cancel class, and he needs a watch you will never get out on time.
He is a great lecturer. I really enjoyed his class. His test are somewhat difficult, but if you take good notes and study the review handout you will do fine. He's good too about answering any questions you have and working with you on making up assignments.
Davis is a GREAT History teacher, he knows his stuff. However, he does talk A LOT. He will also take you over class time which I noticed annoyed everyone in there. Overall, I would say take him, especially if you have to take this class, he is one of the best in the department.
Professor Davis is very intelligent. He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching, which makes the class more interesting. He is my favorite instructor.
Easy class, he like to talk ALOT but he is not boring with the material. Test are easy of you even attempt to study. He gives study guide and attendance is not mandatory.
I have taken Davis for both of my required histories. From what I have heard from other students who have taken histories at Tech Davis is one of the easiest. Go to class, take lots of notes, and study them for the tests and you should make an A on the tests.
I really like Dr. Davis's class. He REALLY knows what he is talking about and he's such a nice guy. His tests are really hard basically just take notes and study them and the study guide and you will do fine. I got an A and pretty much just went to class and took notes and studied the night before a test. TAKE HIM!!!!!!
I loved his class. He said funny things a lot. He is really passionate about history which makes you more excited about it. Never opened the book. tests are easy if you study. Best history professor at tech. TAKE.
Very helpful and understanding when you miss class. tests are a little tricky, but if you study and understand the study guide youre in good shape.
Davis is easy and his test are easy. Davis is one of the easiest professors here at tech. I love his teaching style and he is kinda monotonial but overall an easy teacher but you will need to take notes to pass his tests but they are generally easy as well
Great teacher. He is really friendly and his passion for history is really evident. TAKE HIM. He's a cool guy. Tests are kinda hard but if you take notes you will do fine.
Take Him. Great guy loves history. Cares about his students. Will do anything to help you. If you can take his class best teacher Tennessee Tech has.
Professor Davis' passion for History is so evident and it is contagious. He is very intelligent and will help you in any way possible. Adorable and dorky. Wonderful teacher and historian. His tests are not easy but he helps you in any way he can. He just wants you to KNOW hitsory.
Great class. Professor Davis realizes that most people in American History are not history majors, and teachers accordingly. He gives study guides for all tests, and the quizzes are open note. I learned a great deal in this class, and went on to take both parts of American from Davis.
TAKE HIM! he has a passion for history and it shows in lectures. EXTREMELY courteous, i am not a history major and he understands that and teaches accordantly. Attendance is mandatory if you want an A. If you study and take notes you will do fine
This teacher knows his stuff and wants you to learn it also. He is very interesting and easy to pay attention. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! His tests are so difficult but he is willing to help you however he can.
Professor Davis is THE BEST! I took him for 2010 and 2020. He is so enthusiastic and excited all the time! He makes history so much fun! I would take him for any course regardless of what it is. It is a shame he only teaches two courses because he's one of the best professors at Tech.
Really nice guy. Can't help but to like him. Really loves history. Maybe a little too much because he never realizes when class ends. Open note quizzes, tests are not easy but if you study you should be fine. I would recommend him.
This guy is the guy to take for history. He does a great job of keeping your attention in class and always provides a study guide for his exams. All you have to do is take very good notes and ask him about the map section BEFORE the test!
I love History and Davis does too, he just has a different way about things. His note-taking is somewhat difficult, but quizes are very easy if you attend and listen. He gives out study guides for the test that will really help you. He talks the whole time and it can be boring at times, but he does have some interesting stories.
Professor Davis is the best history teacher I have ever had!!! he is very good at what he does and you can tell he really enjoys teaching. Attendance is not mandatory but it would be advised to go to class and take notes. He lectures the entire time but he is very informative and has great stories!!! definitely would recommend him!
Dr. Davis definitely has a passion for history, and he's very engaging. Tests are a bit difficult with little to no studying. Definitely someone you'd want to take for your history classes.
AWESOME TEACHER! MAKES THE SUBJECT INTERESTING. MUST BE IN CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. EVERYTHING COVERED IN CLASS IS ON TEST. GIVES A GREAT STUDY GUIDE.
Dr. Davis is a very helpful professor with a passion for what he teaches. He class isn't difficult if you just show and take good notes. Start studying the guide he gives at least a week before the test and put some effort into the papers and you should be fine!
Before I took this class, I hated History. Now, I love it! He says you will need a textbook, but I never even picked it up. He is very clear and passionate about what he teaches. You must attend class to do well on the tests!
I highly recommend Prof Davis! There is no need to buy the textbook- no reading or papers due. He clearly goes over everything you need to know in the lectures. Attendance is optional, but you need to be there to take good notes! There are online quizzes each week. As long as you take notes and pay attention, you're good. Study for all the tests!!
Best History teacher, his class is super easy and the way he teaches makes the material easy to remember.
Davis has very hard tests but if you study about 2 weeks in advance and understand the material you will make an A. Davis has been my favorite professor at Tech so far he's so entertaining and very very helpful. I definitely suggest taking him!
Davis is very entertaining in class. he gives you outlines that you can download or print. it is very difficult to take all the notes you need to because he moves so quickly. quizzes are easy and online, tests are ridiculously hard. History at Tech isnt a strong subject, but Davis gives extremely difficult tests with no study guides.
One of the best teachers at Tech, he is so passionate about his work and it shows in his lectures. He does not go by the text book at all and his lectures are very easy to understand and easy to follow. His tests are so easy and are exactly from the lectures I would definitely recommend him for any history course he teaches.
I recommend Davis. His quizzes are on iLearn and easy. His tests, however, are hard. The tests are 50 questions on a Scranton, usually 25 multiple choice, 15 matching (people/events), and 10 map questions. They're are 3 tests. Study in advance because cramming for this class will not work.
I loved Dr. Davis! This man radiates happiness. He is always in such a GREAT mood! His tests and quizzes are soooooo easy and you don't even need a textbook. He is extremely friendly. Couldn't ask for a better professor, he was by far my favorite from my first semseter.
Mr. Davis is an absolute darling. He is incredibly helpful and the class is entertaining and interesting. The tests were always difficult and you have to study the maps! The map section always brought me down. I definitely recommend this class. I loved it and I haven't met anyone that hasn't adored Mr. Davis.
Easy A! I had him for both history classes. Take good notes, study hard for the tests, and you'll do great!
I really enjoyed this class. You can easily make an A if you attend every class and take notes. His lectures are extremely interesting but he will hold you the whole time every time. He was extremely helpful.
Prof Davis is a great lecturer. The class is easy to make a B in if you just show up and pay attention to what he says. He has an organized way of telling history like stories. With him, you definitely get your money's worth. He never cancels class and always holds you until the last minute-maybe even more. Nevertheless, definitely recommend.
Prof Davis is simply amazing. He knows a whole lot about history, down to very little details, and he presents everything like a story. He is also very humorous, whether he chooses to be or if he just comes off that way. He is the man to take whether you want an easy class or you want to learn a lot. I can't wait to take him again next semester.
He lectures the entire class and never canceled or let out early. We never took attendance. Don't buy the book. He said the only use for it was if you missed class or needed more clarification of the subject. 2 tests, 1 final. Gives study guides, use them and tests are easy A. Gives weekly online quiz. Easy if you went to class, okay if not.
Davis is a wonderful professor. Show up, pay attention, take some notes, and you will do well. Everything comes directly from his lectures, which he always manages to make interesting. No major studying required and you won't even want to miss class because he's a humorous and intelligent fellow. Wish I'd taken him for HIST2010.
His lectures are very informative and easy to follow. He will add stories and life experience here and there. Class is far from boring. I've actually learned more history from him than I ever have. Tests are clearly outlined and are over the study guide. Study map identifications. If you attend and pay attention you'll do just fine.
Never uses textbook, the only notes he gives you are an outline that you are supposed to fill out in class. He is very knowledgeable in history, however he speaks very fast and goes off track a lot so you never know what you should write down on the outline. The only grades are online quizzes which are incredibly easy, and 3 exams.
Prof. Davis is one of the best professors I have ever had! Don't buy the book. Quizes and tests are made directly from class lectures, so you have to go to class to do well on them. He makes history into a story so lectures are enjoyable in my opinion. He offers great extra credit and is always very understanding. Nice guy and interesting class.
Professor Davis is an amazing history professor! I absolutely loved his class. He gives an outline and follows it and only tests you on things that he has covered (attend and pay attention to lectures)! He is extremely likable and approachable and he cares about students learning! He is funny, too.
Put in the work and you will do fine. professor Davis is nice and interesting and has minimal reading for his class
Dr. Davis is a story teller and makes digesting history easy. Take notes and review his study guides and get an A.
Davis is awesome. He loves to tell stories. Show up to class and take notes and he does pop quizzes but they are online so you can use your notes. Tests are easy. Easy A. Definitely taking him for HIST 2010.
Interesting lectures. But you better have most of what he says written down. Much of the stuff is in the book but its a lot of reading.
Dr. Davis is an amazing lecturer and it really feels like hes just telling the class a good story. There are 3 tests, all multiple choice and 12 short online quizzes. The test book is optional and you should be able to make an A if you go to every class and pay attention.
Very good professor! He makes history fun, and the class is easy as long as you go to class.
Entire is graded of open note quizzes and 3 test. Study for the test and show up for class and you will do fine. Great teacher and makes the material enjoyable as he possibly can. Wished I would have taken him for HIST2010.
Davis is a great professor and all-around nice guy. A true cinnamon roll if you will. He tells history like a story so lectures were actually enjoyable. I would definitely recommend coming to class and taking good notes, because his exam questions primarily come from there. Also, study well because his questions can be tricky.
After my first exam I met with Professor Davis because I was overall concerned about my grade. I wanted to understand what I did wrong and what I could improve on. As we went over my exam he proceeded to tell me he was "disappointed" in me. He rambles in class, makes no sense, and a know it all. The class average for exam 1 and 2 were below a 70.
Professor Davis was the BEST history professor I could've asked for! Great lectures, funny guy, gives LOTS of opportunities for extra credit, he genuinely made coming to class a pleasure. I would say coming to class is the smart choice considering that's where most of his exam / quiz questions come from.
He doesnt take attendance but you should go to class. He has a way of teaching history like a story. He makes history interesting, you will have 12 quizzes (lowest two dropped) and three exams, they are not cumulative. Even the final isnt cumulative. I am dumb and I made an A in the class. I dont understand the bad reviews on here.
Professor Davis has been the best history teacher Ive had. Even when we had to go online, I still enjoyed his lectures although it wasnt the same as in person. Hes very authentic and cares for what he teaches. I am for sure taking him again.
I hated his questions on exams and quizzes. They are very specific and sometimes are so wordy they do not make sense. You take 3 exams and 12 quizzes. He does not post the quizzes on a regular basis and that is extremely annoying. I wish he would just post one every Wednesday or something so students can block out time. I would not take him again.
I was never too big into history but he made me look forward to each class. His lectures are easy to listen to for the whole class. There isnt much you are graded on besides tests and quizzes but the outlines have highlighted what will be on the test. Tests match the quizzes so as long as you keep up with the class you will be golden
Dont expect him to be able to get in contact with him if you take him online. He has a discussion board designated to asking him questions and says in his syllabus to email him if you ever have questions or need help, and he NEVER responds. The class itself was easy enough, but not being able to get in contact with him was honestly ridiculous.
He's so enthusiastic about history and clearly loves to teach. You kind of have to zone in when he's teaching though because he WILL go off topic, so finding important information is sometimes hard to get. He's the sweetest man, but lectures are sometimes confusing.
So enthusiastic about the history he is teaching. Listening to his lectures is like being read a story which makes the class actually fun to learn in. Come to class and take good notes while he lectures and you can easily pass. One of my favorite teachers I've ever had
He made this class a lot harder than it should have been. He rarely ever answers emails and if he does it takes him days. I wont take any of his classes again if I can help it.
I took the online class. There is no homework to buffer your grade, just quizzes and exams. (all his quizzes on are on quizlet) He does give extra credit however it is not worth a lot of points. I personally wish he posted lecture slides with his recordings so its easier to go back and study instead of having to rewatch all the recordings again.
His lectures are very interesting but his outlines for notes don't always match up with what you need to know on the exams. It's hard to know what information you need to study and his study guides include every topic in the notes outline plus things he didn't add to the outline, so you essentially need to memorize everything he says as he says it
His lectures and outlines DO NOT match what he asks about on exams. His questions are made to confuse you and are about very small details that you would never know to study. He will not get back to your emails. He celebrated the class average being a 60 on the first exam we took and said it was the highest average he had had on that exam in years.
Professor Davis was a great instructor and you can tell he really cares about history. His lecture videos were interesting and funny, which helped keep my attention when watching them. I took him for the maymester term (10 day course) and it was a great experience. I would recommend him for your history classes!
I took him for HIST 2010 and 2020; LOVED him. His lectures were very interesting and engaging. He's a really sweet guy and very understanding. I wish I could take him for all of my classes!
I had him for both 2020 and 2010. Hes very nice. I really enjoyed 2020 and thought he did a good job teaching it. The test were fairly difficult, but nothing impossible. But Ive now had him for 2010. His class is about the same. But his test are ridiculously hard and completely impossible to study for. His test now feel full of random trivia.
Philip is so sweet. He always showed us pictures of his sweet dog he was understanding and caring. I would take one of his classes again. His outlines are easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but try to go as much as you can and you will get a good grade.
The course can be challenging, but engaging with the materials and using tools like Unstuck ai for study prep really helps. Lectures are interesting, but exam questions tend to focus on specific details. Overall, a worthwhile class if you're willing to put in the effort.
Professor Davis is one of my favorite at tech!! His classes are lectures.. so it can be boring.. but attendance is not mandatory and he posts every single lecture on iLearn for you to watch. There are weekly 5-question quizzes on iLearn (he usually gives you some answers) and there are 3 exams total. Study what's on the study guide & u'll be fine!
Loved learning from him a lot as an international student. I didn't know a single word of history when I started the course but ended up with an A. It's all thanks to Professor Davis. His way of teaching and interpreting the content is so easy to grab and so inspirational. Just go to the lectures & listening only can make you pass the exams well.
