Great teacher who loves what he does. His courses feature a lot of information so it's not an easy grade but how passionate he is about the subject makes it an interesting class. He does like the sound of his own voice though and usually will go off on political tangents, but that's the only bad part about the class.

Ok, let's start yes he's a cool professor. He has some issues with arriving to class on time. He is passionate about what he's teaching, he takes it serious and feels you should too, so don't use your cell or talk in class. His exams are pretty easy as long as you follow his study guides, text, and tutorials. Be in class! If not email him.

He's nice and friendly. The class is simple - all you do is listen to him the whole time, but it can get really boring. He gives all the notes and study guides online. 2 essays and 3 tests. Didn't use the book at all

VERY EASY teacher. Probably studied 10 minutes for each exam and ended getting As on all but one. Just an easy lecture class. He is really boring though. Makes you do a 6 page paper at the end. DO NOT procrastinate for it. Gives out some extra credit as well.secret: on a test if there as an "all of the above" option, it is most the correct answer

This professor is fantastic. He knows the material very well and is capable of answering practically any question you pose. He provides a great amount of extra study materials and lets the students know exactly what they need to study for. Also has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend any course he offers.

This professor is very close-minded and old fashion. Every lecture, he will mention something related to him and Africa and will try to crack corny jokes to make the class laugh. He is very hypocritical at times by getting extremely angry at tardy students but he, himself, often shows up a little late. At times, he also has quite the temper...

If you don't mind a very dry and boring lecture then suffer through it and take his easy exams. There is zero class participation. He talks the entire time and usually refers to his experience in Africa 50% of each lecture. Very unfortunately I do not (as an A student) feel I learned what I thought I would.

He will spend most of the time talking about Africa. Very knowledgeable about it. Learned a lot more about Africa than Anthro. If the test were on Africa alone I probably would've Aced his class. He's a good teacher, I was just a bad student who wouldn't study. Tests are based on his very detailed study guides. He's kinda boring though.

Barros is very smart and loves to talk. Be prepared for long lectures and no overload on homework which is great. He has like 3 tests, and two essays. Show up on time, ask questions, readdo the study guides and you will pass. If you read all the assignments on blackboard he gives you, you will learn a lot and pass the tests easily. Some EC also

Don't think about asking questions or engaging in the lecture. Each class is only him talking. Best way to pass the class is to not listen and just read the study guides he gives because nothing he talks about during the lectures are on the exam. He is very knowledgeable but monotone and boring. Wish it was more interactive.

Yes, boring & no class interaction but interesting when he talks about Africa. Requires 2 papers to pass the class (6 & 8 pages) but is a lenient grader. Use study guides and you will do fine on the tests. Definitely take advantage of the extra credit opportunities, he does not grade on the curve and it can make the difference!

All he talks about is africa--super cool and inspirational but not relevant to the class or his lecture. He has study guides for his lectures and exams which you should print out and study because thats exactly what is on the exams. You have to show up bc he does pass an attendance sheet around; answers on exam are 910 d-all the above

WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! Prof De Barros is a really nice guy, but his lectures are way too long! All he does is talk about Africa. He only requires to papers, but if you don't do them you will NOT pass the class! Please do yourself a favor and take it with a different professor! If you want to be bored to death then go for it!

Excellent professor. Very interesting though he does diverge often in lectures to talk about his studies in Africa which I found very interesting. Professor de Barros is very kind and willing to help. I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Papers were abundant yet if you know the material and follow the directions, easy to pass. Would take his class again

Easy A. Offers E.C. If you study his guides you get A's on tests. Essays not bad, just time consuming and he is very lenient on turning essays in late. Unfortunately, he is vocal about his own political opinions, and personally this ruined the class for me. I do not recommend this teacher.

Interesting class, but a lot of info. He does have pretty much all you need to know in the study guides on blackboard so be sure to study those before tests. Some days he's pretty serious, some days he'll be making jokes all class, but overall he's a good professor and I would take him again. DO NOT GET CAUGHT USING YOUR PHONE DURING CLASS!

He's an archaeologist by trade. He has spent a lot of time in the field so he speaks from experience and first hand observations . He goes the extra mile to ensure you have all your learning accommodations met. He welcomes discussions and debates where appropriate. Tests are fairly easy as long as you read and do the tutorials.

He was one heck of a teacher, given that this was pre covid, the way he had explained the material was entertaining and very clear that a chimpanzee could pass!! I would definitely take his class again 10/10, 100/100, etc
