moderately hard for an organic teacher. extremely helpful if you go to him during office hours. talks a lot about england and tries to make the confusing concepts easier to understand. I would take him again for the rest of the series.
He's really smart. He cares the most about the learning outcome of his students. If you put forth the effort, you will get the grade you deserve.
Dr. McMullan is beyond a reasonable doubt the most helpful and understanding professor at Tech. Although his tests are challenging, he gives multiple opportunities to improve your grade. The chemistry department needs more professors like Dr. McMullan who actually TEACH!!!
Terrific teacher. Goes out of his way anytime a student needs anything. Class was challenging but totally worth it in the long run. I would gladly take his class over again if I could.
P-Mac will genuinely strive to help you understand any material that you can't comprehend on your own. Great professor with a great personality; he's definitely the Chemistry professor you want to have at Tech.
He is the best chemistry teacher. He explains everything very well and if you do not understand it, he is willing to help you until you do.
He is a very good teacher. He explains everything very well in class and if you do not understand it then you can just go to his office and he explains it in a different way until you understand it.
Very good professor with excellent clarity in his lectures. Makes the class bearable and fun. Exams are tough but he is approachable for help any time.
P Mac is great. He gives you these homework sheets (which you usually fill out in class--for your own benefit, not a grade) so you can practice problems and check answers in the book. He genuinely wants you to learn & wants to help you in any way possible.
Dr. McMullan is very approachable & genuine. He obviously has empathy & compassion for students & their struggles with a difficult subject like chemistry. I've never had another teacher like him, esp in the science dept. Exams are difficult, but he takes into consideration your effort.
P-Mac was the bomb! Great teacher! Wants you to learn and is always a very understanding teacher!!! Gotta love him! Even if he takes your phone!
Amazing as a professor and as a person. Knows his chemistry impeccably. Tons of charisma and genuine desire for students to learn something. Always positive, yet realistic. Glad to have met this person, he is a good example to live by.
Dr. McMullan is awesome! I absolutely love his class. He has a great sense of humor and he knows how to take a joke as well as dish one out. He is very helpful if you go see him. He also gave my class retakes if we didn't like our grades. He would hold review sessions before the retake to go over the test. I HIGHLY recommend taking P-Mac!!
Great teacher, incredibly helpful. Is very animated and uses it as a tool to encourage positive interaction and continued engagement. very fair with grades. But, as the quarter progresses is harder to find during his office hours.
Very energetic and helpful. Makes chemistry easy and fun to understand, although he's honest about his tests: if you don't go through the book at all, you won't do well on his exams. If I had the chance, I'd have taken him for 251 and 252 as well
P. Mac is the best & that's that.
He is by far the greatest teacher ever. Absolutely hilarious. Keeps you engaged the entire time and is knowledgeable about the material. I can't say enough about him, and neither can anyone else. Read the other reviews.
He goes over problems in class and answers any questions you have. If you don't like asking questions in front of everyone, like me, he has flexible office hours and is very approachable outside of class. Overall, just a great teacher.
He likes to teach early classes, and it can be hard to stay awake in his class. He keeps office hours and is willing to help, but does not go out of his way to help. The way he teaches his class is by working examples in class, and thats it. If can't learn from just examples, don't take him, otherwise he is pretty cool, and has a fun Irish accent.
Amazing professor. He uses worksheets not power points to help teach, which to me is a better concept of learning. Also, he is willing to help . If you visit him in his office he will help you with any answers you have!
I've had Pmac for CHEM100, 102 & soon organic Chem. If I could, I would take him for all my chemistry classes. He teaches with worksheets that follow the textbook & are helpful study guides for the tests! He sticks to his office hours & will answer any questions! He's bloody marvelous.
Best chemistry teacher at Louisiana Tech! He goes out of the way to help his students. He's a sweet guy but also hilarious.
I took him for both 250 and 252 over the summer and he reads straight off of the powerpoint, does not do retakes for organic, so if someone tells you that its a lie. He assigns way too much homework, and you don't learn squat, and he's super boring in class. You don't even have to go to his class if you don't want to because it isn't helpful.
I have had PMac for all of my chemistry classes so far and have loved him. While sometimes the lecture can be confusing, the best thing to do is visit him during office hours. He is very willing to help students understand.
He really enjoys joking along as he teaches because it helps students stay focused. He tries very hard to get students to understand. Everything is out of 120% so you have a better chance to pass. I've taken him for all 3 of my chemistry classes and I recommend you do the same.
If you study the worksheets you do and class and know how to do them, you will pass the tests easily. super funny. awesome accent.
PMac is always really funny and is usually a really good professor, but sometimes he gets a little distracted and is hard to follow. His tests are fairly easy, but there is usually one question on each test that was not covered in class and can be found in the textbook. I would definitely take him again but he may be confusing to some.
PMac is a great professor, if you have the opportunity to take him for any of you classes work your schedule so that you can. His tests aren't as easy as the rest of the chemistry teachers but there's lots of opportunity ti bring up your grade if you don't do too well on tests. Go to office hours if you have any questions at all. He's just great.
Very helpful teacher, dedicates his office hours and more time to teach students
Love his accent! Lectures aren't bad. Tests are tough, but you can go to his office for help.
One of my favorite teachers here at tech, P Mac gives the best lectures. He's hilarious but also makes sure you learn everything you need to. His accent also helps you pay attention, and he cares a lot if his students are learning the material. He gives excellent examples and his tests have extra credit. Super easy and I learned a lot.
ONLY PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD THAT ACTUALLY CARED. WHEN I WOULD WOAL INTO HIS OFFICE FOR HELP THE 6TH TIME THAT WEEK, HE STILL HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND WAS HAPPY TO HELP. HE GENUINELY LOVES HIS STUDENTS AND HIS JOB. 1 IN A MILLION. PMAC IS THE BEST PROFESSOR @ TECH!!!!
This man is too precious for this world
He is by far my favorite lecturer at Tech to this point. He is the best at explaining chemistry principles and I actually learn in his class. His tests aren't as easy as other professors but for organic he uses the test bank so if you can get ahold of that you're fine. He is funny, charismatic and has an accent. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS.
McMullan is amazing. He uses the book some but you have to have it in order to the homework and for some chapter information he tests you on. He is hilarious and loves chemistry which makes the class fun. He will thoroughly explain things if you do not understand and is available in his office hours if you need help on the homework.
PMac is awesome! And that's all you need to know. Best chemistry professor at tech, best at explaining everything, always go to his office hours, great accent, cheesy jokes, also your life will be hell if you take any of the other professors for organic, there's a reason why his class fills up first every quarter.
Best at tech so helpful and tests are super easy.
He makes learning chemistry very fun and pretty easy. McMullan is good at explaining the problems in class. His tests are mostly math based and similar to the notes you take in class. He has been my favorite teacher so far!
Fantastic. Will help you if you need any help during his office hours and encourages question in his lectures. Absolutely great chemistry teacher.
Best chemistry teacher I've every had. Doesn't grade super hard, but if you pay attention in class and do your homework you should be fine.
Chem 100 with him was a breeze so I passed with an easy A. This made me SEVERELY underestimate Chem 101. I failed the first two tests. Point blank. So after that happened, I busted my ass working to pass the class. He noticed because even though I was supposed to get a D, he gave me a B. Thanked me for participating when I handed in my final.
Hilarious guy with a cool accent. Easy class if you already kinda know the material. He explains things in weird ways sometimes, though. But he is really accessible and encourages you to come to his office hours if you need help. Tests have 30 questions but are only graded out of 25, so if you miss 5 you can still make a 100.
PMAC cares so much about his students & is clear about his goal to help us learn/understand the material rather than memorize it. He is very helpful during office hours, so I highly recommend making use of them.
Pmac is a wonderful professor, he really cares about all his students. He is willing to help if you need it, if you go to his office hours a lot. He will crack jokes with you in class. His test are the easiest but he his grading scale makes up for it. I would definitely take him again and I prefer him over other professors.
The absolute gold standard for any Chemistry teacher. Funny, relatively easy class as long as you pay attention, caring, and makes it easy to study. There's a reason his sections fill up faster then you can say "I wonder if PMac's class is available."
Absolutely love this man! The nicest teacher I have met at tech. Wants you to actually succeed and knows his students by name. If you get the chance to take him do it. you won't regret it!
10/10 One of the most amazing professors that I have ever had.
Honestly? Didn't learn a thing in his class. Cool guy, not the best teacher. What he taught in class wasn't on the test, you just have to kind of guess for that. Still made an A, but cant remember a single thing from the first part of organic chemistry.
Hilarious and keeps you awake when he lectures. He lectures and everything sounds like it makes sense until you think about it and you have absolutely no idea what he is talking about or where he got it from. He doesn't clarify his notes unless you ask so definitely ask questions. He is very willing to help you if you go see him.
This man is precious and I would take him for every class if I could. Hes one of the best professors Ive ever had. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS AND DO THE HOMEWORK. YOU WILL BE OKAY
Get ready to study, his grading scale helps a lot but do NOT underestimate it.
Dr. McMullan's class is a fun one to attend. He makes lots of jokes and makes the learning atmosphere very comfortable for students. His tests are somewhat difficult if you do not understand the material 100% percent. I suggest going to his office hours for clarification before a test.
Pmac is a great teacher he will explain anything you don't understand. Beware though there is no more test banks. So make sure you go to class and learn.
So, you are taking Organic Chem, PMac wants to explain anything from lecture that is not understood, provided that you attend class and visit him in office hours. Rumor has it the test banks from previous years, no longer reflect new material, and the textbook will be a new edition. OCHEM is no joke and you must put in the time to learn all of it.
Enthusiastic about what he teaches, goes into detail, all tests multiple choice. Use textbook to practice and success will be ensured
PMAC is known as being easy because of his test banks, but he does not use those anymore. There was a test every 2 chapters and he tries to cover each chapter in 1 day, so you basically have a test every week. I felt like the classes were review for something we should already know and the tests were 100 times harder than any example done in class.
No fire in your belly to succeed? Expect reward without effort? Not up to snuff? Too distracted by your phone? Not self disciplined enough to study? Dont be hard on yourself. Just blame your teacher.
Though he is knowledgeable, his lack of organization resulted in him teaching an entire chapter of chemistry in an hour. Additionally, he made all the homework for the chapter due the same night. This was during finals week. The 20 point scale is used because no one actually learns anything. I cannot fit everything he does wrong!!!!!
Wonderful professor. I have taken him for quite a few classes and learned so much from him.
Pmac explains concepts really well. You have to go do the problems. He takes time to help if you have the motivation to do well. Would def take again.
Best organic teacher on campus.
P. Mac is a solid choice for organic chem. He always goes out of his way to answer questions and gives examples that really flesh out what he's talking about. Additionally, he is quite the humorous fellow! Never a dull day when you're taking P. Mac!
Took Pmac and he was a pretty solid choice, but it really depends on your learning method. He lectures from slides that are basically right out of the book, which we could've done on our own. Would've appreciated more examples in class. He also puts questions on his exams that he knows will be tricky. It's a tough class but he's a solid choice.
Test are so hard and nothing like the questions from lecture. Homework is done on aleks and will take you forever do finish and its very hard. Definitely would not take his class if you want an easy A. Most people rn have a D or lower
Best chem teacher ever. Passionate about chem. He gives you a "worksheet" which is several pages and that's how he teaches in class he goes through the worksheet and teaches you how to and why. He is a lot of help during office hours, and it is enjoyable. Very hilarious and kind. Definitely, someone you want to have. It made me love chemistry.
What it's ACTUALLY like. LEARN THE WORKSHEETS. The tests are basically the worksheets. If you don't pay attention in class and learn the worksheet, YOU WILL FAIL. He is EXCELLENT and if you need help go to office hrs. To the ppl that say he's bad or it's hard. I PROMISE YOU they didn't pay attention or go to office hours. It's easy if you TRY.
He is a very good chemistry professor. He is funny and made an 8 AM class enjoyable. Sometimes he can move fast, but he is always available in his office and really wants his students to learn. He also gives bonus on his tests. I would definitely take him again.
PMac has been one of my favorite professors so far. He knows the content and can explain it in a way you can understand. He is also always in his office hours if you need help with anything. During class, He cracks some jokes to lighten the mood at 8 am and interacts with the students so nobody is afraid to ask questions. I definitely recommend him
I've always hated chemistry, but Pmac makes me enjoy it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I recommend making every lecture. He thoroughly enjoys chemistry and enjoys meeting with students more. If you want an easy A, office hours are your best bet. He will go into further detail for whatever issues you're having and will clear your mind of any doubt
McMullan (PMac) is a solid choice for the Ochem series. His exams (multiple choice) are fair for the material covered, and you cannot rely on lectures alone for success. Studying is about 25% memorization and 75% practice problems (!!!). He is very helpful during office hours visits as well. Despite Ochem horror stories, an A is very achievable.
PMac is an awesome professor, his tests are pretty hard but he is willing to work with you. He is very energetic and funny but is very strict about no phones and will call you out. He is really knowledgeable about all things chem.
I took PMAC for OChem, which is a really hard class, BUT he made it really enjoyable. He is SO willing to work with you if you talk to him or go to your office hours. He is so passionate about chemistry and really wants students to know and understand what is going on.
While the material can be hard to grasp PMAC is always available to help outside of class and answer any questions you have. Hands down the best OChem teacher at tech.
Pmac's class was a lot of fun, and I don't even like chemistry. He is very caring and his lectures are very informative. you could earn a lot of bonus points on his tests which really help your grades. On one test i got a 32 out of 100, but with the bonus and studying at his office hours I still got an A. Would take him again if I was a Chem major.
PMAC treated me as his own. Any student taking the MCAT needs to take this professor. He makes it all seem simple! The exams are NOT easy. There is simply not enough time in class to run through the whole chapter. 1. Do the homework 2. Read the textbook and answer the practice questions 3. Office hours SAVED my A. God bless you PMAC!
Took PMAC for the entire organic chemistry series and he was phenomenal. He was available during office hours to help me with questions I had from lecture. Organic chemistry can become very difficult in certain times but PMAC wants students to succeed in his class and is willing to work with you to help you.
I took PMAC for the entire organic series and would recommend to anyone who wants to learn. Not the easiest A but put in the work and you will EARN the A. PMAC is the reason why I decided to ditch wanting to be a MD and pursue a PhD in Chemistry full-time because his passion about organic made me fall in love with the subject matter. Legend.
The absolute best Organic professor
Everyone loves him and he may have a 15pt grading scale but you need it just to pass. He rushes so much through the lectures usually teaching a whole chapter in the class before the test. He is at his office hours when he says. No other grade other than the tests to help you. Tests are harder than the lecture or the worksheets.
5 exams, thats it for your grade. he is nice guy that makes class fun but content is very hard
have a quiz to start the class, then explains next weeks topic and what will be on quiz, then you do the lab with the TA and complete the worksheet. if you study for the quizzes then its easy
Very funny and loves to interact with the class. He gives you a document about 100 questions for practice problems, but some of those problems will be on the test. He also grades 12.5/15 so you can get up to a 15/15 on all tests. But, his lectures do not really explain how to do the work and I had to use outside resources like youtube.
Dr. Philip McMullan is an excellent professor for CHEM 101. There is no hw, just 5 tests, but very easy because he gives us practice tests that are very similar to the test. Take him if you can!
DO NOT TAKE FOR GEN CHEM LAB- he gave tests before every exam that were graded for correctness so you have to get a 100% on the labs. His "lectures" that he gave a week before the tests make absolutely no sense. Good Luck.
