He's ok. I feel like I may know about Calc than him and I just took one year in HS thouhg. He is not funny and is not really good at teaching, Im not sure why he is here....O well.
He was a funny teacher with the ability of teaching.
Dr. Mummert was my favorite professor from my Freshman fall semester. He is generally likable but also can make the complicated topics in calculus easier to learn. The class is still pretty difficult, even if you have taken calculus before. My experience was easily completing the homework and then struggling on the exams because they were hard.
Love this guy. My favorite professor by far. Exams are a bit difficult, but he has helped tone them down in terms of difficulty when talking with the other professors. Go to class. Don't need the book unless you want more practice. Doesn't take attendance. Very kind, enjoys spending time with students and going to lunch with students. Great guy
Dr. Mummert is a total dad. At first it came off as patronizing, but after I got used to it, I really learned a lot from him. He is very helpful outside of the classroom and easy to understand in lecture.
He is the best!!!
He is a very good teacher who tries to get students more involved in math. If you take the time to ask questions and go to his office hours he is very helpful. Expect his tests to be extremely difficult, and more than likely it will look nothing like the exams from the past.
To sum it all up, Dr. Mummert is a lot like a dad in the class. Which makes sense considering he has several young kids of his own. He is one of those rare professors that makes sure you understand everything. Sometimes he will make a surprise visit to your recitation too. He is extremely helpful and will pop a few dad jokes in lecture.
Wow. This is the best math professor I've ever had to this date. He doesn't take attendance, but being there makes a world of difference. He does tons of examples, he's very helpful and nice, and he looks like Captain America. Nuff said. As of this writing he is assistant head of the Math Dept, and has a big influence on the exam. Go to lectures
Teaches Calc I amazingly. I messed up hard on the first exam, as reflected by my final grade, but an A is very achievable with effort.
Best math lecturer at Purdue. Thoroughly explains the concepts and then works through several examples all which are easily understood because he elaborates all the while. His dry humor is an added bonus.
I took Calc 1 with him last fall and really enjoyed it. He has a dry sense of humor, which makes the lectures enjoyable. Attendance isn't mandatory, however if you miss lectures you probably will miss key things that will be on the exams or homework's. I enjoyed having him as a professor enough that I decided to take Calc 3 with him this fall.
Dr. Mummert is my favorite professor! Only math lectures I've enjoyed attending. He never makes you feel stupid, is pretty funny, and explains stuff well. The only downside is that he loves math so much that sometimes he can get a little overly theoretical.
Mummert is great professor who clearly explains complicated mathematical concepts and provides just enough examples to cement your knowledge, but still leaves you to figure out the complete application on the homework. Don't even think about skipping a lecture, you'll fail the next quiz let alone the test
Obviously, Calculus 3 on the engineering track at Purdue is not going to be easy. However, he is an AMAZING professor who explains everything really well and always takes the time to answer questions after class. If you're forced to take this class, he's the best professor for it.
No attendance taken. Has video lectures uploaded on boilercast. Really nice guy, has dinner meeting, invite intertional students to his house on thanksgiving. BE AWARE he has some boring jokes tho, which can be pretty awkward if you are watching his lectures online
Nice guy, tried hard, interact with students but has boring jokes.
Professor Mummert is a great instructor and a great guy. He explains different topics very clearly. He is very approachable and supportive. He is humorous as well. I enjoyed my Calculus 3 experience with him.
I came into this class as a freshman and calc 3 at Purdue was the first time I have ever been challenged in any math class, and I had to study for hours upon hours to get an A. However, Mummert is a fantastic professor and he explains even the toughest concepts very clearly. If you are taking calc 3 here, take it with Mummert, you won't regret it.
I have only been to class once for 20 minutes but I can say that Prof. Mummert is a fun lecturer. He also has classes online and knows his subject very well. However, his exams were really unusual considering past exams for the course and math exams in general. Study hard for his notes.
Hands-down the best math professor I've ever had. Very easy to talk to and has clear, easy-to-follow lectures. Class material is tough but does a great job of thoroughly explaining the material in a passionate and humorous way.
There's a lot that could be said about the nonsense that is Purdue math, but Dr. Mummert is an AMAZING professor. I originally had Cai, and after failing the first exam, I nabbed my friend's Boilercast info and watched him online. He makes sure to explain everything clearly, does example homework questions, and he is the sweetest guy ever :)
Easily the best math lecturer in the entire department. Super organized, color-codes all of his notes down to the individual variables, and always finishes lectures on time. Explains many of the harder subjects in multivariate calculus in simpler terms, and then builds up from there. Also uses real-world examples frequently.
Had him fall sem for calc3 and I loved the video recorded lectures. He's funny, goes out to eat with students once a week, and notes are easy to read since he color codes well. Don't fall behind because class does get difficult later on. Grading is a bit tough (not the professor's fault) but there's a curve.
This class wasn't too difficult as a introduction to proof class, but he was still careful not to leave anyone lost. He would regularly stop class to answer questions and would not move on until he felt everyone had a solid grasp. The only way you can fail this class is if you refuse to ask for help, and don't open the textbook.
His explanation of the concepts is somewhat insufficient, and sometimes his jokes make it a bit distracting to focus on the key ideas.
Mummert is a great professor. In lectures, he speaks slow and explains concepts well but gets a little boring but it's Calc so there's not many ways to make it fun. Exams are extremely difficult and nothing like the homework or quizzes, so understanding concepts and doing his in-class examples are important.
He genuinely cares about every student. He has meals with his students every week which he has trademarked as, "Meal with Mummert". I was worried about taking Calculus for the first time at Purdue, but he is so amazing and got me off to a great start in college. If it wasn't for the final, I would have gotten an A. Can't wait for Calc II with him!
I like his lectures. I like that he doesn't just explain what something does, but also why it matters, how it came about, how you can use it. His occasional jokes lighten up the intensity of the course. He always pauses and makes sure the class *understands* what's going on. He's a real academic that cares about his students.
Was pretty good at explaining concepts and had many times where you could meet with him to get help. Whenever he creates the test they are hard so study a lot for the exams.
Mummert's lectures are good and he teaches the material enough to understand it, but watch out for his exams. His exams are nothing like past exams, and he makes easy concepts hard on tests by giving problems with weird quirks. Even if he is a good professor, taking 166 with a worse professor but less confusing exams may be your better bet.
I went to his lectures for Ma162 even though he was not my professor because he was so good. Yes, the class is very hard but he color coordinated all his notes and explains the material very clearly. By far the best math professor I've ever had!
Overall, good professor but can go about things in a theory way instead of a integrated way.
Does a great job of interacting with the class and making sure that all questions are answered before moving on to a new topic. Puts a lot of effort into making sure that students feel seen, was never able to make it a trademark Meal with Mummert, but they always seemed like a good time. Exams are extremely difficult, study lots, watch out.
Prof Mummert is a really nice guy. In lecture however he covers concepts and formulas instead of doing practice problems. Beware the exams, they are much harder than the past exams. To prepare for exams, look at the study questions on MyLabMath. Go to office hours, he is willing to answer questions.
He is a really nice and enjoyable professor.
Dr. Mummert is truly one of the best professors in the math department. Strongly recommend taking his class, however, you gotta study a lot for his tests.
He is a very good professor. He lectures with humor and sarcasm, but also understands the material very well. He will never tell you if something specific will be on the exams, because he wants you to learn the math, not the exam. The exams are very difficult, I would suggest doing an insane number of practice problems. But the final is reasonable.
I took him for calc 1 and absolutely loved him. He really knows the information well and is available to help outside of class if you need him. He is funny and makes his lectures interesting. You do have to work for your grade and make sure you understand the concepts when it comes to the exams. The exams are difficult but are definitely doable.
Very good professor. Also very accessible
Mummert is an amazing lecturer and his exams are crazy hard
I have never seen a man as dedicated to properly color coding his notes as Dr. Mummert. He had a great vibe and would just occasionally mention how much he loved math. Also he had an existential crisis about numbers which was very entertaining. 10/10 wholesome man.
You have to put in the effort and understand the material well if you want to pass this class. Mummert was an amazing professor. He knew the material well and how to explain it. He would make his lectures fun by just inputting hints of sarcasm and little jokes. He cared about his students and I would definitely take his class again. Loved him.
Dr. Mummert was a good professor, learned a lot from him and his engaging lectures. He does make you have to think more by yourself and exams are very hard, study A LOT beforehand.
One of the best math professors at Purdue. Enjoyed the class. Dr. Mummert is always ready to meet outside the class and help students. Dont miss out the chance to go for feasting with faculty with him
Great professor who cares about his students even when there are hundreds on them. Attend office hours and go to his "Meal with Mummert" they are a great place to get to know him and have a fun time. He is always willing to help out and give adivce
He did a good job explaining the topics but he would go through examples that were extremely basic and compared to the homework. The test are extremely difficult and unforgiving so make sure you study a ton.
Very nice guy, but exams are too hard.
This was by far the most challenging class that Ive ever taken. However, Dr. Mummert explained everything very well, students and instructors were very responsive on our classs Question/Answer forum, and Dr. Mummert was there if you ever needed help with anything (and kind too!). The course is difficult, but taking it with him is a solid choice.
I can clearly tell he's a nice guy and enjoy watching his lectures, but just like what everyone else says here, his exams are very difficult.
I took this class in the Covid-era so all the lectures were online. Dr Mummert made this lectures quite well and I actually preferred this to a typical lecture class. However, The tests were incredibly difficult. They were short answer with NO partial credit, which means even the simpliest mistake could cost you almost 10 % of your test.
I took this during COVID, so our experiences may differ: The class goes super fast. Mummert is a good lecturer imo. The exams are out to get you. Don't take them lightly. They are in a free response format, so study that way. Give yourself ample time for homework because it is way harder than it should be. The homework is made to make you drop out.
Mummert's lectures are very clear and concise, and he goes out of his way to explain the origins/theory behind what he's teaching. In addition, he color codes his notes so that they're very easy to follow, especially if you're just looking at the slides. However, you do have to work for the A, and beware the exams.
In lectures and homework, he gives easy examples compared to the actual content of the exams. The curves don't support the majority of students.
Mummert did a good job organizing his notes for his lectures.. He also did a good job covering review problems and going through midterms. However he would pick really easy examples for the notes and made the midterms really hard. The midterms were a mix of his questions and book, but they were hard. Definitely go to S.I if you can.
Explains things well, lectures are detailed.
I have Dr. Mummert as my lecturer for MA162 during a COVID semester. The online video lectures are very well organized and easy to follow. He explains the content very well. The course is work intense with three homeworks and two quizzes (created by your TA) weekly but Dr. Mummert makes it manageable and fair. There are many options to get help.
Professor Mummert's lectures are incredible considering how professors had to pivot to accommodate online lectures so suddenly. The course itself is somewhat difficult, with tons of homework and quizzes, but Dr. Mummert manages to make it as accessible as possible. If you pay attention in class and take the homework seriously, you will get an A.
Loved him. He really wants you to pursue a math major, watch out.
His lectures are great and he teaches very well. This class had a lot of quizzes which weren't terribly difficult, but they were certainly a burden on top of all the other course work I had. The primary struggle of this course is the exams/midterms. These tests are very difficult, you get no notes, and only the most basic of calculators. Good luck!
I really enjoyed Dr. Mummerts teaching style. The lectures are all color coded and he makes it very clear what hes doing at all time. Also just a nice guy in general, would be happy to have him again!
His course is quite challenging, but hes an amazing lecturer, and you can tell hes excited and energetic about the content he teaches which makes a huge difference!
Professor Mummert is awesome! I was on campus for the Spring 21' semester and was only hoping for a C. I know that a lot of people have to retake this class or simply pass it but an A is possible if you put in the work from the start. Ask questions as they come and he will be willing to re-explain concepts to you! Will make you love calc :)
Hes an all around chill and interesting guy. Hes able to look at past exams and tell the students which questions go overboard and which do not. He also lets you know ahead of time over what to expect on exams. He teaches well and made my semester enjoyable when I expected a hard class.
Professor Mummert is a fantastic teacher and his lectures are very enjoyable. He brings enthusiasm into each lecture and has a good sense of humor.
The exams are multiple choice format and I was always well prepared by accessing the exam archive and attending his review sessions. I took AP calc AB and this was my 1st college math class. The first third of the semester was material I learned in high school and then we ventured off. Even the new material was pretty easy to learn, as hes great .
The exams are way harder than the homework. The homework and quizzes don't prepare you for exams at all nor do they affect your grade enough to help you. If you are an incoming freshman, only take this class if you took calc BC in high school (and did well). Only those kids did well in this class and it ruined the curve.
absolutely loved mummert, even though the class was not the easiest he made lectures very engaging and was easily accessible if you had questions. overall a great professor to have if you get the chance.
Aside from MA162 being extremely difficult, the professor makes the content extremely clear. That is why I'm choosing him as my professor for MA261. His lectures are good and he always posts lecture videos and notes in case you miss lecture. He has a sense of humor, which makes the class much more enjoyable.
Prof Mummert gives great lectures that make the content very clear. MA162 is tough, but his lectures make it easier. Tests can be challenging, so make sure to try to understand the concepts behind the formulas to do better, and previous tests will be your best friend.
He's a good lecturer, I just didn't go lol.
Mummert is a great professor. Although the class was extremely difficult, he made it manageable. He is enthusiastic about teaching and actually cares about his students. I went to office hours almost every week and he was always very helpful. His notes are also color coordinated and organized so it's easier to understand.
Professor Mummert is an excellent lecturer, and it's not easy to get bored listening to him.
Amazing lectures, really loved how he color coded everything so that it was easy to follow. He makes real-world comparisons when explaining topics which make it easy to understand. He cares about his students and tries to help everyone succeed. 3 midterms and final are difficult, but the curve is huge at the end of the course.
Very good lecturer. Writes very clear notes and the lecture recordings are great if you miss class or need to review material. Tests are very difficult sometimes to the point where you can't truly be prepared enough for it.
Very hard class but Professor Mummert is amazing! Great guy that obviously cares about his students. Material is difficult though, seek help when you need it.
Really uplifting and fun in the lectures. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to pass you should go in person.
GENUINE W TEACHER. Should be the standard for university math professors. Takes a very engaging way of teaching and his explanations of difficult concepts such as infinite sums or arc lengths or trig sub makes the material so much easier to learn. His lectures are easy to follow and he goes at a pace that contributes to everyone's learning.
Great professor all around. Would highly recommend.
He's very enthusiastic about the subject and is always there for people to ask questions and does a very good job of explaining topics. I really wish I had him again this semester.
Professor Mummert does a great job with his lectures and going through past example problems that are requested by students. His tests are not easy and you really have to understand the material if you want to get a decent grade in the class. There's a lot of homework assigned each lecture and recitations are only once a week.
Had him for two semesters and I absolutely loved the way he taught. For a visual learner like myself, the way he writes things in real-time and includes plenty of drawings was so nice, he's also quite animated. But his exams are bloody awful. They're difficult to an excessive degree and the averages were all horrible. Still a great prof overall.
He is an engaging lecturer and does practice problems and review sessions before exams. The exams are rigorous and typically pretty different from past exams.
Detailed notes and slides, although he does move kind of fast. I wasn't afraid to ask any questions and he's very patient. His exams however (for Calc II, MA 162) were insanely hard and are weighted heavily (15% per midterm [there's 3], 25% for the final). The highest class average on any exam I took was 68%. Overall pretty decent, but not perfect.
Professor Mummert cares about his students and what he teaches. His lectures are not mandatory, yet I would highly recommend them. The exams were often brutal, but such is Purdue math.
Gonna be honest, I didn't attend any of his lectures after the first exam because an assistant prof taught my class (but I still had the same tests from Mummert). Relied off of Chenflix to save my grade, but even then I got kinda behind lol. Idk how I managed a B, especially with such hard exams.
Mummert was the best calculus professor. He made the material easy to understand and made himself approachable for asking questions and frequently checked for understanding. His tests were difficult, but he made a point to prepare his students for each exam. 10/10 would reccomend.
Professor Mummert is an amazing and engaging lecturer. He finds a balance between showing the beauty in mathematics without driving too deep into the technicalities for non-math majors. Lecture usually start with a warm-up question where you can discuss with peers, guided hand-written notes, and a stretch break during the middle of class.
Mummert's lectures are well organized and he uses lots of colors and visuals in the notes. He seems like a nice guy and is entertaining to listen to in class. Grade is made up of homework due twice a week, a quiz once a week during recitation, and three exams. Exams are consistently difficult, but practicing with Boiler Exams makes them doable.
Mummert is one of the most casual and caring Professors I've had the pleasure of learning from. He makes really hard concepts much easier to understand. There is no extra credit and the class is very quiz and exam heavy but you can do it. Going to class in person helps a lot. Absolutely wish I would've had him for Calc 2 and 3
This as his first time teaching grad students, and you could tell. The online master's program offers flexibility for those with full time jobs, which he did not. Students who couldn't find a proctor were forced to drop the class. Exams were shockingly hard, reminded me of undergrad calc. Lectures were interesting though, and the curve was huge.
The Purdue math GOAT (>Chen) taught the class really well. Having quizzes instead of midterms (for this class not calc) is awesome.
Professor Mummert puts a lot of effort and energy into his lectures, which are very informative. You can do well in this course if you studied, did the homework, and paid attention during recitation. He had review sections before the exams which were very useful for answering questions. I would strongly recommend him!
Best math professor I've had at Purdue. Explains things very well in lecture, and he was so fun that it actually made me want look forward to the class.
I had Professor Mummert as my first Math lecturer at Purdue and now, being a Junior, I can say he still the best professor I've ever had in college. He is very funny, his classes are dynamic and clear, he gives 5-minute pauses so we can clear our minds, makes math exciting. I had him for MA162 and MA261 and would love to have classes with him again
Don't take all the positive ratings at face value. Mummert can be lengthy in his explanations at time and does not explain things in the most straightforward way. Often times, it was hard to follow some of his lectures. The exams are ok.
Passionate about what he teaches and an incredible professor.
For this class, the prof did not use a textbook, so all the material was given by him through lectures. He does a good job in posting lecture videos and notes, but the exams were pretty difficult as we did not know what to expect due to it not being a textbook based class. His grading is very harsh, which is surprising for a non proof based course.
Homework is easy enough but exams are rough (the final was borderline unfair), and his lectures feel like he's just telling you about the material so the internet will be your friend (not office hours). I wouldn't say the class was fast paced, but he skims over a lot of material by showing you equations without ever diving into any of the intuition
Professor Mummert is by far one of the best instructors I had at Purdue. He is amazing at breaking down complex ideas.
He is an enjoyable lecturer and really a good guy, but makes his class miserable to follow. Homework every other class (3 class/wk), and often doesn't post the homework or teach the required lecture until the day before or DAY OF homework being due. A ton of assignments mixed with no way to get ahead, makes life hard for busy or motivated students
One of the best professors I've had made a difficult class easy and understandable.
He is a great lecturer and easy to follow most days. The homework, although only a few questions, was difficult and questions got very complex. The content is not bad and he lectures on what he wants. Since there is not textbook, you rely heavily on what he says in lecture. Meets you halfway on tests as long as you study. Kind and funny.
Dr. Philip is an outstanding math professor, blending humor and care in his teaching. The course involves substantial homework's and challenging exams, but at the end, you would come out with an incredible knowledge.
Prof. Mummert is an amazing lecturer who has an amazing ability to simplify really tough problems. He gives a skill sheet before the exam and all the problems come from that. MA527 is homework heavy and the tests are average in difficulty but the grading scale is quite lenient.
The professor is engaging but the workload can be heavy. Lectures are helpful, but no textbook means relying heavily on class notes. Exams are tough but doable with consistent studying. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for exam prep.
Wasn't my prof, but he subbed one day and he was awesome. Him and Toms are the Calc 3 goats.
Prof. Mummert is the GOAT of calculus. I had him in 2020 fall semester for calc 2 and spring 2021 for calc 3 and he actually made calc fun. He has a very approachable teaching style, anyone can learn calc well from his lectures. He also had a lot of character and genuinely cared about students. Thank you professor you made school awesome :)
He think he is currently the course coordinator and is such an interesting lecturer. I took his class in Spring'25, and though I didn't attend the 8:30 am lectures, I watched all the recordings the same day. Such an engaging lecturer. Would retake this class with him!
Very tedious and frustrating course. Dr. Mummert assigns way too much homework and I didn't find his lectures particularly helpful. The exams are fine if you are able to understand the homework, but the homework is just too time consuming. Not an enjoyable course at all. Do not take it with Mummert.
He's an ok professor, but a caring person. I think his lectures are fine, and he often breaks down concepts and draws parallels to basic math concepts, which is good. But there's a lot of homework, and it's MUCH more difficult than lectures. The tests are relatively easy, though, and he's somewhat lenient with grade cutoffs.
He seems like a nice guy, but he assigns a lot of homework. One assignment for every lecture. Because there isn't a textbook it is hard to study for exams because he doesn't provide any study guides and wants you to study using the homeworks. It's also hard to do the homework because it felt like the homeworks didn't correlate with the lectures.
Excellent Teacher, he prepares you well for the exams, just spam boilerexams and go to lecture review for the exams and youll do amazing
Mummert's upbeat demeanor made learning Calc 3 easier at 8:30 AM. The course material is hard because it's Purdue math but Mummert was good at explaining concepts. His pictures are awful, but awful in a "haha" way and not a "I can't understand this" way.
Great class
learned well from lectures
Great professor, attended most lectures even though it was optional.
Might be the most sendy and ferda professor on campus additionally hella chill and gave me his linked in. Also its really cool that he had 6 kids we need more people like him. On a real note he gives very good lectures and the exams are fair and representative of the material.
His lectures are entertaining and he makes them fun by throwing in a few jokes here and there. The tests are a little scary because they are multiple choice with no partial credit, but as long as you study it is chill
Fantastic professor, very clear to understand and he actually wants you to succeed. He makes lectures very worth attending.
Prof. Mummert is an excellent professor who clearly understands the content he is teaching. He often defaults by explaining Calc 1 concepts and then relates them to Calc 3 ideas. Every lecture introduces a new topic, and has at least 2 examples to follow. Tests are a bit daunting due to each question being 6 points without partial credit.
this man is very funny. best professor ever. he explains all concepts really well and i didn't have to study a lot outside of class because his lectures were super informative.
Mummert is the absolute goat of Calc III. He is especially helpful this semester (Fall '25) because he is the course director and he teaches exactly to what the exam will be. He is super funny but a little cutthroat if you ask a stupid question.
Professor Mummert was an amazing calc 3 lecturer. Textbook is required to access the homework but you do not need to read it because his lectures are so good. He always makes sure to cover what will be on the homework and the exams. He also makes very good analogies to calc 1 and clearly knows his stuff. You definitely need to study for quizzes.
Professor Mummert was an amazing Calc 3 lecturer. He always explained it so that the students could easily understand. He refers to the textbook but will mostly do it his way when the textbook's way is annoyingly ambiguous.
Dr. Mummert has a uniform lecture style. He reviews a problem from the previous topic, explains the intuition of the new topic, and then gives a formal definition that we use to solve examples until the class ends. He is caring and invested during office hours. I have no complaints other than he forgets that nothing is trivial to underclassmen.
If he is available to take during your semester, definitely take him. He is a very great professor, understands concepts without beating them into the ground, and seems to genuinely care that students learn the material. I personally do not know anyone that has his lecture and dislikes him.
If Isaac Newton and God had a baby, it would be this man. Because of him, math is never about rote memorization but pure, intuitive internalization. Literally a one in a billion talent. I would name all my kids after him. My GPA is saved, my soul is ascended. We are truly not worthy. The absolute goat. 11/10.
The exams in this class were very tough. You could spend two weeks prepping for them and still do poorly. Overall just very unfair class
Genuinely he was born to lecture. He is wonderful at teaching you how and why things work, as long as you pay attention.
Professor Mummert is an amazing professor. His lectures are easy to follow and he often starts with a review of a calc 1 concept and then connects it to calc 3. He assigns lots of homework but if you do it, the homework really helps in preparation for the tests. The tests can be difficult but if you do practice questions you will be fine.
Amazing professor. Insanely difficult exams as they focus more on conceptual understanding
This professor is a great lecturer. He is great at teaching the concepts and using visuals to explain the topics. Sometimes he is pretty fast in his lectures, so make sure to reread your notes so you understand everything. The only complaint is that the tests are REALLY hard.
Professor Mummert is an excellent lecturer. He makes complex concepts easily digestible within each 50 minute lecture. Homework is manageable, but in my opinion, not very helpful for the six option multiple choice exams. Use the past exam library as your study guide.
Mummert makes otherwise difficult calc 3 concepts simple and intuitive to understand. His lectures are extremely engaging and easy to follow, with the right amount of actually funny jokes. Exams are very difficult but I don't think that's in his control.
Mummert does his best to get all of his students through tricky concepts in Multivariate Calculus. Gives you EVERYTHING you need in the lectures so be sure to listen up. As long as you pay attention to everything (and he will often hint at things that might be on a test), you will be fine.
Mummert is a good lecturer. He is clear and will answer questions in class. He writes tests that are very different from previous years tests, which makes them tough to study for. The homework problems were not particularly helpful for the tests themselves, as they were often unlike the types of questions on exams.
MA 261 is heavy on conceptual understanding. Mummert did an excellent job explaining the concepts. Does a good job drawing 3d surfaces to help you visualize the concepts. Exams were tricky. Go through the past exams to study; lots of past exams.
