THis is a class that has been meant to have students fail in pursuit of financial benefit to the department of math. I was told by a former teacher that taught this class. Pina is the director and makes it very very hard to pass it. Do not take it at FAU.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! I was warned not to, and I really wish I would have listened...I was a straight A math student in every other math course I have taken, so I thought I would breeze through college Algebra. FAU math dept. makes this subject so much harder than it is. You'll regret taking it!

horrible person wouldnt aswer your questions gave the wrong answers to the problem for the review of the test on purpose as well he doesnt consider any suggestions unles he benefits on tourturing the students in any way

Total tool. Thinks he is god and is totally inconsiderate of other students. Amazing how this guy is incharge of the department. If you get him, kiss your social life goodbye. Oh yeah, he sounds like the guy from Reading Rainbow, makes me chuckle every time I hear him speak.

This class was a nightmare! I studied my butt off for hours, and barely passed the exams. 1/2 of the students dropped the class mid-semester.

THE WORST TEACHER EVER! THIS GUY DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING MOST OF THE TIME! NO ONE LIKED HIM! HE WAS VERY UNHELPFUL AND YOU COULDN'T TALK TO HIM BECAUSE HE WOULD FLY OUT OF THE ROOM WHEN CLASS WAS OVER! NEVER TAKE THIS GUYS CLASS. YOU'LL PROBABLY FAIL!

He sucks, doesn't speak English well, writes problems on the board without explaining anything in a straight-forward way, assigns HW & quizzes every day and moves very fast. Everyone drops his class or else they fail. I switched into MGF 1106 because prof's syllabus said to take "lower-level" math if you can't handle his class. MGF isn't that easy.

I don't reccomend him. He moves very fast and explains problems in the most complicated way possible. He thinks everyone should understand math the way he does and if you don't, you're screwed. He was COMPLETELY disorganized the whole semster, once we found out there was a test on friday on the wednesday before!! Try to get into Boyntons lecture.

If you want to waste your time money and effort take this teacher, he spends no time teaching you anything in class and leaves it all for his TA's to do. Every study guide has 80 questions and only 25 on the test. Test are impossible. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER EVER.............

AWFUL TEACHER!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY!! i found out this past monday about an exam on friday that i have no idea what its all about. if you want to pass i suggest avoiding this man. very disorganised, gives no help, and assigns homework like a madman. he's never on time and he's always the first one to leave once class is over.

It is an algebra class yet we do everything but algebra.. we do calculus and physics in algebra? Rarely replies to emails, and never posts grades... Clueless to this day what my standing in the class is.

I wanted to give his guy a chance despite the comments and I fully regret it. He sucks. The end. He doesn't care about students, belittles them, and assigns crap he never even collects. He sucks at explaining anything and assumes everyone took up to calculus in highschool. Definately just take this at PBCC. Save your money.

he uses the same type of questions from review packet if not same exact questions on the tests so these have the potential to be very easy if you enjoy wasting hours teaching yourself.don't even bother listening to lectures. show up and do online hw just in case he gives a lame "quiz". doesnt tell u your grade and sometimes wont show up for class.

Do not take this class, especially if you're not a math person.He He makes everything way harder than it needs to be and doesn't come to class before tests. He is a terrible proffesor and does not know what he is teaching, very unclear "this guy plus this guy equals this guy" he expects you to be a child protegy. totally unhelpful if you email him this semester he had 144 students in his classes and the average was a 47.99 106 students were failing, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!

First off, just bcuz people go to PBCC to take this class doesn't mean your a loser. Taking it there is much cheaper and much easier since most of us will not need graphs, variables & crap later in life anyway.Those who pass with A's in his class have absolutely no life &are math nerds or just suck up. There's a reason only 30% pass MAC 1105 at FAU

One of the worst teachers I ever had. And I'm not a slacker! I studied like crazy in this class and I still am confused. He's horrible at explaining things ("this plus this divided by that...then you do this"), he doesn't answer e-mails, and he doesn't tell us our grades for each test! Be wise & take it with someone else, unless you're good at math

He is the worst teacher ive had! Hes smart but can't explain things 4 someone bad at math 2 understand. He is unorgainized and never tells you what your grade is. He told me he would be at his office at a certain time and never showd up and usually runs over class time 5-10 min. I never even opened my textbook. DONT TAKE HIM EVER! AVOID AT ALL COST

I took him for statistics and had him for college algebra. he is prob the worst teacher ive had. after listening to his lecture you will be more confused than before. We had group projects, couple tests, random attendance and random quizzes...my advice is to never take him, you will learn abo****ely nothing and possibly become dumber

He was the worst professor ever. I took AP stats in high school & loved it and learned so much but he was terrible. Never got our grade til the end of the semester & he just made it up by looking at you. If you dont care to learn take it. No tests really, exam was take home. They some how allowed him to teach a higher level stats this year.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Is at least 15 minutes late when he shows up at all. Tests out of the book but does not actually teach the material. had us retake exams but never let us have the originals back so we could find out what was wrong. I needed the homework tools that come with the book but he refused to use it.

He doesn't know how to explain things. He has wrong answers on the test for every single test except the final. He is very disorganized. He postponed tests at least 2 times. He left everyones grade at a B when I know my grade is a B+/ A. He won't respond to peoples emails. This was in the summer. Horrible don't take him

Rarely shows up on time. Has not graded a single quiz, and has only given back one exam. We are near the fourth exam and he promised our test back three weeks ago. He is a joke, yes he is good at math, but cannot teach it.

I am a straight A student. This professor is terrible. Doesn't teach. In fact, one class he handed out a review for everyone to do while he read a book. He comes to a 50 min class late. His homework assignments do not match what he is going to "teach" in class. I did work ahead of time too. He doesn't respond to texts, calls or emails.

Never taught anything! You have to teach yourself everything. Went to the Coordinator about him. Wasn't able to study for correct quizzes b/c His outline of Quiz dates & what chapt it was listed incorrectly. Never stated what quiz was on until day of quiz. Coordinator stated he was to hand out the new outline of quiz/exam dates-never got it!

One of the worst professors i've ever had. He wont post dates for tests/quizzes online, so if you dont go to class, you will have no idea when there is a test. But then when you do go to class, he will either show a video of someone else teaching, or literally tell you to leave and go do hw instead. He makes learning simple material so confusing.

Pina is AWFUL!!! He shows up late, he leaves in the middle of class to go to his office for things. He will spend all class working on one example of a problem, he'll completely mess up and confuse himself, and then ask the students where they think he made the mistake. Pina is completely worthless!!

He hardly shows up to class on time, always 10-15 minutes late. so do not bother rushing to class in fear of being late. When i did go to the lectures i found him VERY hard to follow he didn't seem to make sense. i stayed home the rest of the semester and did the online home work and quizzes and went to class when he posted about a exam. AVOID HIM!

Pina is terrible. I wish I hadn't taken Math for Liberal Arts with him. He is always late, goes on these incredibly long rants, and then just ends up confusing himself and everyone else. His teaching is worthless. Seems like even he doesn't know the material, or at least if he does, he's godawful at explaining it. Definitely stay away from him.

This is basically what sums him up... Late for class. Terrible at explaining. Boring. The only good that comes out of him is that his class is very easy to pass due to the fact that he drops a lot of grades. All I did was learn the material myself and show up on test days. That's the best way to pass his class.

Late to class and when shows up, shows videos of other professors teaching then comments about what they did wrong. He doesnt reply to email or the office number he gave nor does he supply a syllabus. Do not take his class.

He shows up late to class often. He does not use a syllabus. He is very unorganized and unreliable. He does not teach clearly or correctly, and is not skilled in his subject area. But, he will help you out if you need extra time to complete a test or need to retake one, etc. And he gives you the benefit of the doubt often enough.

This entire class was a complete mess. When trying to teach material, he confuses you and then he'll go ahead and confuse himself. When giving an example question, he often gets the answer wrong. He writes on the board with his back facing you so no one can see what he's writing. He drops a lot of quiz and HW grades which helps, but he's awful

This class is a joke, the unorganized professor makes it laughable but its not because the questions he uses are way more complex than what was discussed, if any examples were even discussed.

I would say one of the worst professors I've ever had, unorganized, couldn't get the right answers on his own examples. handed 1 of 4 exams back, so never knew your grade throughout the class. Doesn't seem to understand the material very well. I do not recommend him. He's extremely Lazy.He doesn't know how to teach and really isn't helpful.

Granted this was an online course for college algebra BUT the only grades we received were MIDTERM and FINAL !!! it was absurd, no homework, aleks, quiz, or extra credit ! Although you may be thinking college algebra may be an "easy A" you are SO very wrong...

DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Doesn't care about the class, always gets confused with his own examples. as long as you complete the quizzes and exams in the Lab you'll pass. expect to teach yourself throughout the WHOLE semester.

If zero was an option that would be more suitable. Avoid professor at absolutely all costs. he changes due dates and has insanely unrealistic expectations. If only i knew this during adddrop week.

Trust all the reviews you see here, he's absolutely horrid as a professor. He's a good guy but he just cant teach. He'll confuse himself in lecture, comes unprepared, puts things in the exams/quizzes that weren't on the homework. You're more than likely going to teach yourself the coursework and end up more confused than not.

easy A for his stats class, labs are mandetory. he explains absolutely nothing! but the class is still very easy as long as you are familiar with excel.

signed up for liberal arts math 2 thinking it would be like liberal arts math 1, however I was sooo wrong. Taught nothing but statistics in a class that barely even covers it in general. Paid no attention or care to other majors that are taking his class that aren't in business. Highly recommend for those who are business majors; other majors DONT.

Horrible. Will not be taking any more of his classes. Doesn't get his point across clearly. Mostly had to teach myself. No homework which was nice but would've liked to have known if i was doing the work that he gave us was right. Don't take him

I should've went with my original instinct when I saw the low rating for this prof. Nice guy, but unorganized is an understatement. It is the 3rd week & he+his aid just NOW begun giving instruction. He's the only prof who uses a program called Rstudio and it's difficult, especially with how unstructured this class is. I am an A student,very nervous

Honestly, he is barely a teacher. He does not teach anything to the class and tells you that if you don't want to show up then don't. He does not help you at all. Everything is online.

I took this class for stats23 and I had to take it again. Now that I'm taking a different professor I'm passing with flying colors. Pina is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and take Pham. Even the tutors in open lab think pina is awful! Seriously, don't take any class with him.

Worst professor I've had. Comes to class late/unprepared, even on a test day. Lectures are never planned, just rambles on. Expects you to do homework assignments and never grades them. I studied about 15 - 20 hrs for each test just to fail. Nothing seems to matter, since he just passes you at the end. It's sad how much time I wasted in this class.

Instead if writing a huge paragraph, let me summarize everything in one sentence: do not take this class...

Just no. He is always late 5-10 minutes and always comes in with notes he printed out 2 seconds before class starts. So unorganized, he does not follow his syllabus. We are supposed to have an assessment quiz of 2 questions everyday in class for attendance but has failed to do so. Runs over class time A LOT the next teacher has had to kick him out

If you have the chance to take this class with another professor, do so. If yo don't attend his lectures you will be lost, and even if you do go to the lecture you will be lost. He doesn't explain things well ever and he expects you to know everything for the tests, when he explained nothing. He also doesn't stick to the syllabus.

In this course you will have to teach yourself. I used Khan Academy and went to the lab. He will take weeks if not over a month to grade your tests. For the final, he lets you bring a sheet with anything you want written on it and an 8 point curve. If you don't pass the final he will let you retake. Communication wise, very, very, poor.

Not the best professor in the world. Definitely didn't learn as much as I thought. But he's INSANELY easy. People don't do well in the class, but he curves everything so even though it's bad class, it's definitely possible to get an A.

The subject matter of the course itself isn't difficult. However, I don't believe the professor himself knows what he's talking about. He over-complicates everything by using a programming software, lectures don't make any sense, incredibly disorganized, cancels class frequently, and always late. I have never had a worse professor in my life.

Professor Pina is completely unorganized. He does not have set office hours. He is condescending. He doesn't respond to emails. Incoherent rambling during lectures. Completed homework "disappears" and scheduled quiz's not released on time. Avoid at ALL costs. I had to drop the class.

The class itself is not very hard, just a regular college algebra class. The lectures and "study sessions" are absolutely useless, hardly anyone attends them. The problem with this guy is that he claims to be available for students and that its best to text him, however he never responds or looks to help out.

He barely understands the material that he is teaching. He never responds to emails and does not even have the correct information posted on canvas. Going to his classes are pointless, you mind as well teach yourself the material. The work load is not bad, just takes awhile since you have to teach yourself everything.

This professor is a mathematician, not a statistician, so he does math approaches to solve stats problem. Looks like he might know the material, but does not know how to teach it at all. Does not answer emails, not clear about deadlines, not clear about assignments either. Forgetful, clueless, messy. He is a good person, though.

He's a very good person but wow he is an awful professor. Deadlines are everywhere, so unorganized, talks about things that do not relate to this class whatsoever. This is Intro to Biostatistics not math or whatever stuff he talks about ok I don't know what the heck I am doing in this class

If you are a person who struggles with math, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is a terrible communicator, his lectures make no sense, and you will basically be on your own in this class. PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR!

This is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. He is horrible at communication and he uses this coding website for this class that no one knows how to use and he doesn't explain how to do any of it. He simply assumes everyone knows how to code. DO NOT take a class with this professor. He needs to be fired ASAP....

He does not teach!!! Literally called the dean to complain. He would spend 30+ min looking through his emails while we waited for him to start the class. The only reason I passed was because of my study group, youtube tutorials, and the free tutoring. He never explained how to use statcruch, which is literally all you need for the exams. RUN.

This is my brutally honest review of Professor Philip Pina. I was warned prior to the beginning of this semester to not take him. Obviously I didn't listen... Let this be a warning to you! Anyway, he is one of the most unreliable people I know. I attempted to email him 8 times this entire semester and he only responded once. He also doesn't teach..

Had an absolutely terrible experience in this course. Professor Pina does not teach a single thing and changes due dates like crazy. He mentioned that there would not be class on a specific day and then continued to have class any, which I missed preventing me from being able to take an exam. Do not take this course with this professor!!!!

if you email, you won't get a response all semester. There's lots of homework and lots of quizzes and exams. your grade on Canvas is not right, they are on mylab so you won't find out what you are missing until it's too late. assignments are also not on canvas, so if you don't constantly check mylab, you will fail. He also cancels lectures day of.

didnt even bother to update canvas till the 4th week of class, is saying we have a quiz on monday but hasnt said anything about whats on it, even though he said he would make a announcement. All around just careless

The professor was very disorganized. There were no exams except the final, and homework assignments were rarely graded. Lectures on Zoom during class time were hard to follow, and most students were left confused with R studio. While everyone ended up with an A, the lack of structure and clarity made the class difficult to learn from.

The professor does not know how to teach at all. Many of the quizzes contain information from previous chapters that should not be tested on. He has no idea how to use the software and often fails the homework in front of us. Despite this nearly every one in the class had a very good grade because his class really is a joke.

Very nice guy but teaches the class like you already taken statistics. Does not follow the syllabus at all. Very hard to understand concepts. And it honestly feels that you are teaching yourself. But no one gets below a B. But still. Do NOT take him. If you get him, do as much as you can to switch!!!

This professor truly has no idea how to teach this topic clearly. The only reason I did well in this course was through watching YouTube videos and teaching myself the topics. Multiple homework assignments and a quiz each week. He would never respond to emails or texts even after sending multiple. I definitely do not recommend him.

Very disorganized.. For a teacher who is teaching an online class, he does not know how to use Canvas properly and does not communicate what he wants very well. You cannot see your grade because nothing gets put in. He made the final due at 3pm and didn't make an announcement. Every other assignment and exam has been due at 11:49pm. Set up to fail
