Definately one of the more fun profs. Kind of eccentric. High expectations.

Excellent professor. Over all awesome guy. I learded a lot from him!
thought i would hate music but he makes it interesting and funny. take him
Cool guy who really enjoys what he does.
BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD! Take him lightly, have fun and do work (not hard)
Forces you to attend class to learn nothing. His method of music is so wrong.
very funny guy! best music teacher that i have ever had! i wish there were more music requirements in my major so i could take his class again!

I agree... best music class. Takes it slow and unless you have no music ability you'll do fine.
kicked me out of his class for not doing work....if you take this class make sure you do your homework
great teacher! funny, smart, patient and helpful. i wish i could take more classes with him! easy class as long as you do your work, which isnt hard.

Music majors beware and good luck. Who knows what kind of personality Tacka will have with the next class. He's unapproachable, unclear, contradictory and flat out rude. He picks his favorites from the beginning and no matter what you do it's not enough.
Dr. Tacka, in my opinion, is a great teacher, he knows what he's talking about. He makes the class fun, with some jokes. My first day of class he started talking about how much he likes South Park, definitely a cool guy!
bad bad teacher....expects too much for ppl who never played piano before....bad attitude, rude...do not take
He is a great teacher, I learned alot from him, especially how to write lesson plans. You may hear a lot of bad rumors or whatever, but honestly if you do exactly what he tells you,he tells you what he wants, you will do just fine in his class
He is easy to talk to. He makes the class easy for those who are willing to do the work.
Great teacher! Goes slow for those who know nothing about music. Fair and patient. Great class, one of my favs...and i dont know ANYTHING about music...wish i could take more classes with him!
I LOVE TACKA!
it's TACKA TIME! love him! he helps you to understand everything and is such a nice guy! He knows his stuff, and he teaches you in a way so that you are able to teach someone else. He's an awesome guy and a great professor! YEAH TACKA!
Tacka is the best music teacher i've ever had!! He's such a good teacher and his class is easy to follow as long as you go. His tests are simple and he's extremely friendly!!! Take Tacka whever you can its a gaurenteed A and a good time!!
The first day of class will probably scare you, but after that, you will realize that Dr. Tacka is one of your favorite profs at MU. His classes are always fun and he is very helpful. He wants to see everyone succeed. Don't miss out on Tacka Time!!!
What a jerk! This guy is a total ass. Everything revolves around learning the piano and recorder. He expects you to already have a significant amount of musical ability. Way too demanding. Thankfully, I will never pick up these instruments again.
To be honest I didnt care for his teaching style. I felt like he had his favorites!!! He expected way too much out of people who had no experience with the piano or the recorder. Other than the class being required, I will never benefit from this class!
I had Tacka when he was at Georgetown. He's a GREAT professor and makes you learn by doing. his style is engaging and entertaining. He's genuinely interested in helping you.
A waste of time. A lousy teacher. Enough said.
great guy, very helpful and understanding...had no interest in class and no musical talent but he made class fun...must practice though!!
Good teacher, if he likes you. He tells you whats going to be on the tests. He can be a little intimidating at first, but overall he's a good teacher.
A poor example of a teacher. Not helpful in and outside of class. The only way to pass his class was to be on his and Mr. H's good side. He failed to explain what we needed to do in his class. He doesn't have a very chearful disposition. For all out there, this is the real Tacka
Cool proffesor. He likes to joke around, which class fun.
Tacka was a great teacher and he make class easy to go to at 7:45 in the morning! He's really friendly inside and outside of class. At first he seems like he would be tough on students; just get to know him and he's aweseome. Make sure that you participate! :)
I think he is a horrible teacher. does not offer any help, and is such an ass. I had mono this sem and he demanded i be at class and able to sing. class is long and boring, and will not help you with anything.
he is NOT AT ALL a helpful teach. To those who said that he picked favorites, and said he's all about playing the piano and recorder, A-FREAKIN-MEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!
I really liked him. He offers extra help and makes class low stress... if you know what you're doing.
Easy class, but lots of homework. Do things his way or its completely wrong, and he lets you know about it. I had the three hour class and he always let us out at least 45 min. early. Not bad if you do what he wants.
Awesome teacher, enthusiastic, makes you learn, great methodology, funny

He is almost bipolar. Sometimes he is very nice and helpful, and sometimes he acts like he has no time for you. You must go see him during his office hours so you can get everything exactly his way. If one thing is different from how he taught you its wrong and he will humiliate you for it!
Tacka is so much fun. I have him at 8am and as much as I HATE early morning classes, his class is my favorite. The class is totally engaging. He starts with the basics and always breaks down the songs into simpler parts. We usually have homework, but none of it is overwhelming. I totally reccomend him.
All I have to say is I hope next semester's class is using the concept plans we came up with 2 years ago...I'd stay up til 2am on average churning those out, and all basically just to help him with his book. A nice enough guy one on one, totally leveled with me, but man...get your act straight with those class projects.
Tacka can be a challenging teacher, but he really does teach you how to play the piano. His evalutations are really not that hard...He is not out to get you, he WANTS you to know what you're doing. I really liked him! And if you have any questions, he has NO PROBLEM helping you. I do reccommend Tacka.
Dr. Tacka is so much fun. He makes the funniest comments that make you think...I cant believe he just said that!!! Take Dr. Tacka....he will brighten your day:)
This prof. knows what he is doing! If you get anything out of this class, it would be highly detailed procedures and strategies. I started the class with practically NO knowledge or interest in teaching elementary, but after taking this class, I feel prepared and think that it would be fun! A lot of busy work though for T&H's book, but a fun class.
This class is a lot of work, but none of it is too hard. It's just very time consuming. I love how Tacka directs and guides his class. He is my favorite teacher. WAY TO GO TACKA...UR AWESOME
Great class! I wanted to learn to play the piano and I did. The basics from the beginning of the class are repeated all the time, but it helps you remember the information.
tackas a good guy. i was terrified of his class when i heard we had to sing and play the piano... but i learned a lot. i actually really enjoyed going to his class, he puts you on the spot but if you dont know the answer, he moves on. hes a really smart guy and willing to work with you. i definitely advice taking language of music.
Dr. Tacka's class was very enjoyable and fun! He teaches you how to play the piano and keeps class interesting by mentioning funny stories. Performance tests are very easy, allowing you to redo a song if you messed up. If you can, take him!
I really enjoyed this class. It is easy if you have any musical background. Evaluations aren't bad at all. You will learn how to play basic piano. Be prepared to be put on the spot and practice! A lot of work but not very hard at all.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This is the best class I have had yet at Millersville. Dr. Tacka keeps class fun and interesting. You have fun, you learn a lot, and he makes the material very easy to understand. An A is easy to obtain in this class. I felt like I was in elementary school music class. Best class ever.
This class is awesome! Just like an elementary school music class. It's such a relief, after a hard day of classes, to go to Tacka's class and play games and relax. And get this - you can have fun and actually still learn a lot! Amazing!! Take this class with this man!!
Tacka is hilarious, and his teaching style is great. He keeps it simple so you understand concepts. He does expect you to keep up, and there are a lot of in-class exercises, some with partners, etc. He will call on you randomly so be ready. Performance exams aren't bad, just practice, he's not too tough of a grader.
Dr Tacka is very easy to follow and understand. He is willing to answer any questions and very helpful. He is also very well-versed in his field.
LOVE HIM!
He's brilliant! He always pushes his students to do well, and his class is pretty easy. He tends to give a lot of work, but the work is really beneficial. One of my favorite professors by far!
Tacka is amazing! At first he's a little intimidating but once you learn how he teaches he's the best! Go to class and have fun. Learn some songs and you'll get an A without a doubt!
Dr. Tacka is AWESOME!!!! He is an amazing teacher who has taught me a lot. He is entertaining but don't tick him off, because he will embarrass you. Still, he just makes music fun!
Best professor ever. My whole class was full of muscial geniuses exept me & I actually got something out of the class. Good man, too. Very easy to talk to. I'll miss that class.
Dr. Tacka is a fabulous teacher and great man. I did my entire Kodaly certification with him. I thought I was a good teacher, but with his help I am a better musician and educator and my elementary students are definitely benefitting from the training he gave me.
Dr. Tacka is by far my favorite professor at Millersville. His Intro to art music class was a blast and extremely interesting. He'll just ramble on and make funny jokes. He's hilarious and he finds ways to make the class easy and interesting. I will miss that class and him
Dr. Tacka knows his stuff! I took a Kodaly summer course from him at Belmont University. He is a brilliant professor who knows both the academic and practical realities of music education and knows how to communicate that to his students. I would highly recommend him to serious music ed students.
I'm not a music major but his class is fun. You will need to use the book because there is no way non music majors can pick this up the first time. The tests are easy and simple.
Best teacher! always helpful. I would take very class with him that i could he was amazing !!!
Dr. Tacka is possibly the best prof at Millersville. Hes extremely nice and is extremely helpful. His tests are easy if you pay attention in class and do your homework. He has a great sense of humor! If he sees that youre giving it a concious effort, he will help you the whole way. Im an ITEC major and even i think this guy is awsome!
At the beginning of the semester, i was dreading the fact that i had a music class. i just didnt want to be bothered with it. By the end of that semester, i absolutely loved that class because Dr. Tacka was teaching it. The guy is awsome! hes very nice and absolutely hilarious! it doesnt matter who you are, you will like Tacka, i gaurentee it
HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE, if you have no musical ability you will fail. If you are, he would be good. He makes the material as hard as he possibly can.
Excellent instructor... clearly defines sequencing, demonstrates how and why certain methods words, and keeps class fun.
Dr. Tacka is literally the best. Great at explaining, so funny, sarcastic in the best ways, respects every student, and is such a fair grader. I wish I had an excuse to take on of his other classes!
Dr. Tacka is a really nice guy and is helpful when you go to see him in his office, but this is a very hard class for a 100 course number. You will have a lot of homework that you will need to complete on time. Just do all your work and SUBMIT THE VIDEOS HE ASKS YOU TOO and you'll get by with a B.
If you miss one class, he will flip out on you if you don't email him. He literally gives so much information each class that if you miss one theres a good chance you will be way behind. However, he is hilarious and a great guy. Just don't ever get on his bad side and make sure to do the textbook work because it will only help you in the end.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HIM!!!! Professor Tacka makes fun of his students and calls them out infront of everyone. If you have anxiety expect to be physically sick before every class. He tries to act like a nice guy but he's not! He's very picky but never explains what he wants so if you don't do it the way he pictured he will yell at you.
For me, his class was very easy as I knew the material. But he still makes you think. You will get singled out but everyone will. You have exams and tests, but he is constantly testing you in class. He knows all his students very well even if it doesn't seem so. Made an easy A into a healthy challenge for me. Also KNOW YOUR SONGS
Very disrespectful to his students.
Dr. Tacka will indeed trash on the class for the first month in an effort to make you want to work to please him. Spoiler Alert: it works. He's a stellar musician and teacher and I would take any class with him in a heartbeat. I learned so much from him and I know he truly cares about my academic and emotional performance.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSORS'S CLASS! I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSORS CLASS! Dr. Tacka is the most disrespectful and rude instructor I ever met. He tells his student's to shut up, while embarrassing them. I went to his office for a question and he was so unprofessional! I would not recommened this professor! Not even to music majors!
At first, Dr. Tacka may come across as harsh, but he's trying to see if you can hold your own. Got to know your stuff. Be prepared for criticism and feedback, but don't take anything too personally. By the end of the semester, I absolutely loved Dr. Tacka! I learned so much from him. He knows his stuff! I can't wait to take another class with him!
He's an okay teacher. He can be rude to some students and also will embarrass people at times. He'll call on random people, so always be listening and know what's going on. He can be hard with grading things and doesn't always give clear feedback. He's a nice guy and can be funny. He knows what he's talking about and is willing to help his students
Dr. Tacka is certainly one of my favorites! In the beginning of the semester he may seem very intimidating, but as time goes on, he definitely mellows out. He will be tough, but he's only doing it to better the student. Bottom line, do what's expected of you and you'll pass with flying colors. Great guy, really enjoyed working with him.
This professor is incredibly rude during class and embarrasses students for his own entertainment. This professor is incredibly unprofessional and insensitive; find another professor if you can.
Loved his class so much and I could not wait to come into his class. He will randomly call on people but if you know your stuff about music theory and solfege you'll get through this class easily!
Ive only had him for a weeks and I hate him. He gives unclear directions, is very tough in grading, and just LOVES to embarrass students for his own entertainment. He doesnt care how hard you try. You could be the hardest working student in that class, e-mail him frequently and ask questions and still fail. If you can help it, dont take him!!!!!
Dr. Tacka abuses his power, and publicly shames/belittles students if they aren't doing well in his course, despite any personal or medical issues the student has. I have witnessed him harass students many times. If you plan on coming to MU to major in Music Ed., it is not the place to go. You will be required to have him for 4 separate semesters.
Dr. Tacka comes off as really scary and harsh but once you get to know him he's not too bad. Attendance is mandatory for this class and doesn't believe in excuses. His directions for assignments are very short and unclear, he also gives little to no feedback. If you attend class and ask questions you will pass.
Dr. Tacka really made me be able to learn things and bring me out of my comfort zone. I was able to pick up things quicker and he helped when needed.
This teacher is very difficult and is not organized. Emailed him multiple times for help and he refers me to support for HIS links not working. Told me I wasn't prepare and I'm unprofessional since I didn't understand his select content. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Dr.Tacka is a wonderful professor. He has high expectations for his students and gives them all the tools to succeed. A message to Incoming Freshmen music majors, Dr.Tacka may seem scary at first, but once you get to know him, you'll realize he wants the best for you. His class will be your first taste of what college is like.
Dr. Tacka is a very respected dude but personally I dreaded going to class several times. He is funny and very silly at some points but it's so horrid when he's in a bad mood. I understood better music theory in a way I wouldn't have before because him. Don't miss unless it's like an emergency. He will call you out if you are wrong/haven't practice
This is what I wish I would've known before Tacka's class. For one, he is a great teacher. Now with this, comes ups and downs. If you have ever seen the movie "Whiplash", this is the type of teacher he is. Not as crazy though. If you have no background in music theory, you will need a good tutor to get you through this course. Tough love, but great
Like the guy and get along with him, but Ive watched him belittle students. Also dont like that he makes you buy his textbook that he wrote that costs like 200$. You need to buy it new as well because most of the used ones have ripped out practice pages. Ive got a 98 in this class but i know lots of people struggle with his class.
Dr. Tacka will call on everyone in the class, and call you out if you don't know what's going on. Know your music and do your homework and you'll be fine. The first few weeks he's pretty hard on the class, but as the semester goes on, he chills some. He WILL check textbook work. Otherwise, he's a nice guy and I overall enjoyed the class.
