very smart
I know I had him for 102, I had him for Marriage and Family (103?). He's kind of hard, but really down to earth and nice. Take him! : )
he makes the class very fun and speaks very clearly.
Awesome teacher, really knows his stuff.
AWESOME teacher. I would love to take another of his classes.

Nice dude. Very helpful. Classes can be dry sometimes but very intresting at other times. Like to be given a bad time about the Penn State football team. Exspecially if a he is told that the Flordia GATORS are better than Penn State.
vilardo is rad
Awesome teacher. Loved his stories about going to school in South Africa.

He was great. His lectures were actually interesting, and althought here was a LOT of homework in the course he was VERY leniant about late work. The class was great.
He was ok

Prof. Vilardo is an excellent professor. He's easy to understand and grades moderately. This class is writting intensive but very interesting and worth taking.
exceelent and very capable teacher, gave me lots of useful insight into the field of sociology and its tremendous importance in today's world. The class was by far the most clear and concise of any of the 4 online courses that I took this semester. A++
Probably the easiest professor I have ever had. Very nice as well. I would recommend him.
He was alright. I wasn't overly impressed with him or his teaching style.
Dr. V was great! The class was a lot of work but worth it. He makes it very interesting. While I hated doing the writing assignments for the readings I actually learned a lot from the reading assignments. I never new there was still slavery in the world. I'd defiantly recommend this class.
AWSOME teacher. Very insightful, very intellegent, and enteresting. I have taken 3 of his classes, not easy, there alot of work, but well worth it. I have gotten A's or B's in his classes. Great guy, understanding, and leinent.
This is a writing course, there were 4 essays, a quiz and discussion board every week. His grading was fair. The quizes alot of times didn't have alot to do with the material, same as midterm and final. It was a demanding class, but not too hard.
Very good professor. Unbias. Open-minded. Kept class interesting.
I took this class during the Summer and it was a lot of work. Vilardo is a great teacher though ... and I would take another of his classes. He was very knowledgable .. there was a lot of reading and writing ... I started to see from a different prespective. His visuals helped ... but I didn't like the small groups discussions. Plus, he's hot!!!
help!!! forget this class. and he obviously logs on this website to rate himself. i actually saw him doing it when i went by his office.
Do not take this class! Very biased about what you write. If he agrees you get a good grade, if he doesn't he'll fail you! Not kidding!
He was a fairly easy grader but he wasn't very helpful. He wasn't as active in the online class as I would have liked.
Great teacher!
great model for university courses! hard, but fair. he isn't as hard nosed as he likes to appear. this is NOT a teacher for slackers!
He's a nice guy. However, he does grade you on if you agree with him or not. I don't agree with him on some thing, but I will admit my mind has been expanded greatly by his class. However, I still think he should work a little on his grading, be a little more objective. At least he's nice about it.
He is the best teach I have every had
took social problems class, and its a lot of reading but very interesting stuff that makes you think about the world differently I would recommend him but come ready to work
Tough but very knowledgable. I learned a ton, but there is a lot of reading and writing in this class!
He is a pretty good teacher . I hate the ce6 stuff but its not that bad of a class.
The articles he chooses for the students to read are very interesting! As long as you do your homework and follow the directions...you will pass. Very clear directions! Loved the class!
He was clear, easy going, and treated his students with respect.
Great teacher, very helpful and hilarious.
Great professor. Very easy to understand and all of his lectures were interesting. His downfall is the use of CE6, which is the reason I didn't do well on homework or quizzes- I rarely remembered to check the website. There's one major assignment which was really interesting to complete.
Great teacher. Interesting material, fun discussions, fair grading.
Very good teacher. Clear on what he wants for assignments, straightforward, and has a good sense of humor about his work and the world
He is a very good professor that knows a lot about his professions and wants his students to learn a lot about how the world works and how it really is
He really knows his stuff
I love Mr.Vilardo, he is a lifesaver and absolutely cares about education, if you work hard or show you care about the class, he will work equally hard for you! He will give you your money's worth and exudes professionalism. All the best to you Prof!!
He really knows his stuff and is very helpful. Open discussions in his class helps the material sink in and makes it easier to relate it to current times.
Great professor! He is very nice, and knows what he is talking about. He brings up his own personal family life that relates to the topics. The homework is very explanatory, and as long as you do your readings you should pass the class :)
Great class! There's a lot of reading but it's not time consuming and it's easy to understand. Professor is AMAZING! Discussions are also great. I would definitely recommend this class!
I definitely would recommend professor Vilardo. I took him for both SOCI 101 and 102 and really enjoyed both classes. Class discussions were very interesting and he has a lot of background knowledge and always knew what he was talking about. Taking his classes helped me secure my plan to purse a degree in sociology.
Do the work and you'll be fine.
Phil's the bomb. Loved this class!
Good teacher. To be honest, I really didn't like him at the beginning of the class, but by the end, I really liked his style. He is an understanding teacher who really tries to present the material so you not only understand it, but know it.
This class was amazing! At first for the first week or two you have to get use to his teaching style but after that you will love the class. He does assign a quiz at least every other class but only 10 multiple choice.Read the chapters and you will do great! Great teacher and keeps the class laughing
I swear he is the best teacher i have ever had. he keeps the students engaged in discussion. He is very funny always keeps the class laughing. Come to class regularly and do the work. textbook is used very much. There is a quiz everyweek and a discussion and 2 exams. I definitely recommned him . He is such a nice and funny guy.
I would not recommend him as a teacher. My personal opinion is that he is very critical about certain things and very confusing. He was very rude at times too. He needs to have more respect when he says somethings because certain things he says can offend people.
At first your just a little confused about his teaching style, then you get used to it, you need the book the one with the globe on it, you take onine quizes every week pretty simple if you read the material before hand, the articles are extremely long though, and you do one research paper on your choosing. And class discusions pretty ok
Great teacher. Always willing to help.
Sociology of Problems. This course has a paper and presentation due towards the end of the course that should not be waited until the last minute to complete. As for his teaching style, I quite like the open discussion style teaching in which we talked about problems in society and possible causes/solutions instead of just answering questions.
Sociology of the Family. This course was very interesting to take and a lot was learned about how families were formed in the past compared to what is happening to families now. I enjoyed the teaching style, which is open discussion. The midterm and final were a little difficult so make sure that you read through all the assigned materials.
Professor Vilardo was very helpful. The way he set his online classes up are very easy, and helpful as well. I was able to pace myself more easily in this class than any other online class. This class is reading intensive however. If you take this class, you will have a lot of work to do.
He's an excellent professor and knows what he's talking about. He really relates the text to real day occurrences. His assignments are clear and pertain to the material, which actually does come up again on the tests. It's overall a great class and I couldn't imagine taking it with any other professor. You do have to dedicate time to the class.
Great professor! He really opened my eyes to the world. Do the work and you will do well in the course.
Went on a study abroad with Phill to Turkey! was the best experience! he explains the sites , and gives you clear ideas about the culture! He knows what he is talking about. If something is unclear he will explain it to you!!! I would command takings this class, as long as you participate, do your work, you will enjoy this class! he is cool!!
I think he is very informative and loves to teach his students.
Great professor, great lectures, and great discussions. Really interesting class and professor.
AWESOME
Be sure to pay close attention to his power points (they're actually not boring). Participation and attendance matters! It's a pretty straight forward class. Be sure to READ. He assigns (interesting) homework assignments weekly. He puts a lot of things into perspective. I thought he was a great professor.
He's a very good professor. His lectures make you think about things you would have never thought to think about.
SOCI-102 is a very interesting class, and he knows what he is talking about.
Many grades were omitted from the final grade, thus making the final and midterm worth a large portion of the grade. These tests were very much from the textbook questions.
Prof Vilardo is a really chill guy. He's knowledgable, but it was hard to retain info from lectures bc the nature of them just was regular talking and it's hard to turn that into educational note-taking form. It's easy to get a good grade in the class. Just show up; he makes the rest so easy. The actual material of the class is so boring though.
Currently taking his SOCI 101 online course and he's ridiculous. He hasn't given a single person a 100% on their assignment and he doesn't make powerpoints or nothing he uses an online website to teach us and the website is flawed.
Professor Vilardo is awesome. I took his class for SOC102 Social Problems. He spoke clear and interacted with us in class. Best example was when he examined our water bottles & food for a social problem discussed in class. His lectures are informative but you need to read your book so U can pass quizzes & assignments. Read & listen you'll pass EZ!
Interesting lectures and topics. He assigns one assignment a week with a article and you compare it to the chapter. There is two exams with definitions, multiple choice and essays that he gives you prior to the test so you can prepare for it. There is a group project but it is easy and interesting.
All lectures, hard to follow
Awesome professor. He really cares about the students. He teaches about social problems from a global perspective, helping me understand how problems like immigration exist around the world. Easy B if you just complete the assignments and attend class.
Great prof!
attend classes, do assignments on time and participate in class and youll pass
I really enjoy attending Professor Philip Vilardo's classes. He has a unique way of making the sessions interactive and captivating, which makes learning an enjoyable experience.
Dr. Vilardo makes learning fun! He has a great sense of humor and his mastery of the subject is both superb and inspirational. I enjoyed taking this class and would take another with him if I wasn't graduating this month. I enjoyed taking this class and would highly recommend The Sociology of the Family to any student.
He was very nice, and very patient. I turned in work late and didn't take off points off. He was funny and caring.
he was a very lovely teacher he made coming to class worth it every time, attendance is graded but its not a burden to show up. I would highly recommend him. would take again if needed to 10/10
Professor Vilardo is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He makes class engaging and connects well with his students. The course load is not too heavy and as long as you're engaging in class you will find the course to be very fun! I genuinely learned a lot and Professor Vilardo made it very easy to want to participate.
Professor Vilardo is a great professor. His discussion boards are pretty straightforward. Also, he is very understanding; if you have an emergency, let him know! Overall, this class is nice, and he shows how much he cares for this course.
Dr. Vilardo is not only a great professor, but a wonderful person, too. He cares about his students and is passionate about the subjects he's teaching. He's well-versed in what he teaches and explains everything well. Just participate, communicate, and turn your assignments in on time, and you'll learn a lot.
He's super chill and likes to joke sometimes. Definitely recommend his course, just make sure to keep up with your assignments and you should be good.
I recommend taking Prof. Vilardo for your Sociology class. He gives clear constructive criticism on papers and is very nice. I wish I took his class in person so I could physically meet him! As long as you read the chapter and complete all the work on time you'll be fine! And don't worry only one paper every two weeks... not to bad!
Took one of his in person classes the semester before and decided to take his online class because he was a good professor. I will say, he's defiantly a better lecturer than an online professor. Wasn't very present, but gave good feedback on assignments. Definitely more of a teach-yourself class. Would recommend him for in person, though.
One of the best professors at HCC, hands down. Very kind, patient, and has a clear passion for sociology. Lectures were more like open class discussions, making them super engaging and easy to follow along. Workload is managable even though I had almost no time to do them. Totally planning on taking another class with him!
Amazing professor who isn't afraid to have an open honest conversation with students that pushes everyone in the class to think critically.
He is a great professor. If you get to know him, he will likely
If you have the opportunity to take an upgrading course with him, you will have a good time. Just don't procrastinate, and you'll be fine ;)
One of my favorite professors this semester! He clearly has passion for sociology and you can tell during the lectures. He used an "un-grading" system and I LOVED it! He wants the students to actually learn and not get ruined over letter grades. IF you do the assignments promptly and actually try you'll succeed 100% regardless. Easy 10/10!
