HE MAKES THE CLASS FUN, IT IS VERY UNDERSTANDABLE AND EASY...HE DOES GIVE QUIZES AT EVERY CLASS BUT THIS MAKES EVERYTHING ELSE EASY.
Easy class and a good instructor.
Best teacher in the department.
ok if you want to take an easy clas take this on with JONAS.... this class was a waste of money if you wanted to learn something. he gave us every single answer to each quiz and exam. good luck getting this class.
ug he was fun in class but his tests are not very clear, his text sucks, and he makes you do Aplia assignments everyday---however he has the best grading system I have ever seen
IF U HAVE A CHOICE TAKE THIS CLASS..i am not joking...tests and quizzes straight from online just memorize online answers and u will get and EASY A!
He's a nice guy. He just doesn't explain things as easy as they should be all the time. His tests are very confusing, but he will take time w/ you in office hours to help you understand better. if you need to take an Econ class, take it with him.
He teaches nothing that will appear on his tests. Out of our 58 student class 37 had a c-d or below on our tests and 40 had a d or lower on our homework. His grading system is the only thing that saved the people not in these numbers.
jonas isnt that bad. his lectures arent as boring as most econ lectures, and hes the best teacher ive had so far in the department. you do have to study to do well in the class, im pretty sure my entire class is failing. if you actually study, the tests arent bad at all. theres homework every night online though, which is a bit ridiculous.
he cant teach with**** but his gradn scale is freakn awesome. i went from a dc to A n the class. he takes the two highest grade between ur final aplia test. just do good on the online hw or the test. the final is exactly the same as the ol test. take jonan.. u might hate him n the beginn but u will love him at the end. BEST CURVE I EVER SEEN!!!
1st class was goofy. He set up groups randomly and it made me want to drop. The group points from those in my group who stopped coming counted towards my grade. His system rocks at the end. I didn't use the text save for one assignment. If you come to class and take notes, you can do well on his tests. He tries hard to make it interesting.
This class was ok...Entering into the class I knew absolutely nothing about economics but passed the class w/ a 2.5. Funny guy and easy on the eyes. Math background will help you with this class.
Took Web Mirco class, really good.
Great teacher, funny and keeps you interacting so you understand. Read and study vocab and you'll do fine.
really easy class, just do the reading and come to class and you'll get an A. End of the year project is simple
Mr. Jonas makes sure that you understand what he is teaching. If you don't, he will slow down and make sure you figure it out. He's highly educated for his age and I suggest taking a course with him. He has a "slacker-proof" grading system.
Had Jonas for Macro and Micro. He is very intelligent and tries to keep the subject as interesting as possible. Also very helpful and relatively easy. I am terrible with econ, yet I ended up with a B. This man knows his stuff.
Extremely well-calibrated, Mr. Jonas is by far the best teacher I've had....in America.
Ich bin ein Jonas! TOLL! Er ist fantastisch!
I found this class hard to understand. I learn by doing and he does not offer homework to practice. If you learn by memorization and regurgitation then take this class. He is obsessed with group work. From the first day you are placed in a group and every class there is something to do as a group. I prefer to earn my own grade!
On the very first day of class he scared the living hell out of me because he made himself seem like such an ****. After a while you begin to realize he really is just doing the best he can to help every person in the class... and there are at least 70 people in this class.
Eco is not a strong area for me, but I think he does good at trying to help everyone understand what is going on and does try to make lectures interesting. We never have homework, just group assignments at the end of class. I would recommend taking him for this class.
great prof!!
Great teacher who will help everyone understand the basics of economics. Groups can be a little scary, but as long as you don't get stuck with terrible people it's fine. The class is easy if you pay attention.
Great teacher!! He had a great understanding of the topic and was able to put a lot of the information into layman's terms which made it easier to understand. He is also willing to help you if you if you have a hard time with the class.
I had him for ECO 201 and loved him so I had him for ECO 202. Great Teacher!!
great teacher. very friendly helpful and understands/enjoys what he teaches!
Took his hybrid class and thought he was amazing. The class is fast paced, but if you show up and do the reading the class will be a breeze!!Will definitely be taking his Macroeconomics course as well.
No homework except final presentation. Thorough and takes time to make sure everyone understands. All classwork done as a group, which usually improves your grade. All of his lectures are in powerpoint and accessible online--book isn't really necessary. Allows older editions of the book--$$ saver! GREAT TEACHER, GREAT CLASS!!
Very helpful and uses real world experience! Taking him for ECO 201
Very helpful and uses real world experience! Taking him for ECO 201
Great lectures with a delightful accent.
Great teacher keeps the class interesting. Very fair on grading and drops your lowest test. He will make sure you understand before moving on. I feared the class and he made it easier. Not a econ person, but he made the class understandable and easy for me!
Excellent teacher (love the accent). I took his hybrid class and although the quizzes are extremely difficult since they are solely based off your own understanding of the assigned reading it does not make or break your grade (in fact i failed almost all quizzes and still received an A. Very funny and easygoing and fair.
Keeps class interesting. Asks students if they have ANY questions at the start and end of every class, then gladly answers them. Pretty laid back professor but doesn't take pity on lazy students. GO TO CLASS, study a bit and you'll do fine. Group stuff is annoying. Just pray you get placed in a good mature group on the first day of class!
Very entertaining and helpful teacher. Like other comments state, if you go to class you will do well, because he won't move on until everyone has an understanding. Ask questions! Oh, plus he sounds like the Terminator.
Smart, interesting and entertaining in the classroom. I learned a lot.
I took his hybrid class. I loved taking this class with him. He knows how to teach, and how to make you understand the material!
I would not recommend taking his online macro and/or micro classes. The online program used is boring to read and the homework sets are very difficult. It is time consuming and unfortunately I did not learn much from the course.
Great professor, hard class but well organized.
He is a great educator. He enjoys teaching this subject.
great teacher very helpfull took hi hybrd class alot of homework no tests
Great teacher. Good sense of humor. Enjoyed his class
I took ECON 201 & 202 with Jonas and I definitely recommend it. The class is basically reading a chapter, taking a quiz on it, and then eventually taking a test...and repeat. Simple and easy.
Very challenging course, although this professor does his best to make it understandable.
Really good guy! He makes complex ideas simple to understand. I took his summer class and he allowed us to drop 3 of our lowest scores. The homework assignments were time consuming but not too hard. I plan to take Micro with him next summer. I would recommend taking Macro with Jonas. Great teacher!
OK If you want to be discouraged about an already difficult subject take this online. Assignments an quizzes designed to confuse, frustrate, and trip up student. Some of questions on quizzes not even in text! Can't believe this is a course for beginners at a community college. What a shame!
I hate econ, thinks it's like the philosophy of business. But have to take it for my business minor. Mr Jonas was quick to respond to emails, and can explain things well. However, I hate online work, it removes the teacher from grading the logic behind students answers
I took ECO201 & 202 with Jonas. He puts the final up the first week of class and you can take it over and over throughout the semester to practice. Read a chapter, go to lecture, do the homework, take a quiz, and then eventually test. Very clear expectations.
Class was really tough but easier to get through with this Mr. Jonas. He explained things a lot better
I wouldn't suggest taking this class online! Other than this class I have a 4.0 and I was in fear of failing. All of the class work is based on the reading so you have to read a lot.
I really enjoyed him as a teacher. At the beginning of every class he gives the students a chance to ask any questions and takes the time during class to make sure every key objective is understood. You will have to work hard for this grade but welcome to college. Not every class is going to be a breeze.
Knows the subject matter, explains things well. Strict with his "no phones in class" policy. Nice guy.
Would recommend over Sipcic any day.
Does not curve grade or give extra credit. Must earn your grade by putting in your own work - grade reflects YOUR effort. Used the online textbook bc we had hw due every week. DO THE HW AND GO TO CLASS AND YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TROUBLE PASSING WITH AN EXCELLENT GRADE. Tests are tough, be prepared to know your stuff but he explains everything in class.
All tests are timed and there was ten of us still taking it and if its not completed with in HIS timeframe all unawnsered questions are zeros. he took half of my classes tests instead of giving like 15 more minutes I am an honor student and i have never met a professor that would rather see half of his students fail because of a time limit.
Attendance extra credit. 1 homework assignment and quiz (10 questions) per chapter. For hybrid class, all online. 3 chances to do each homework, grade the average. Unlimited changes for quizzes, best grade wins. Got average of 87% quizzes and 92% on homework, went to all classes, got 58% on exam, still got 90% (A) in class. Great at explaining
Honestly loved this guy and his class learned so much about econ and got a B/A. Highly recommend.
Hybrid class eco 201 and 202. Attendance counted as extra credit, (be careful if you have financial aid). His lectures were on point and well prepared. don't expect to get out early. he does have a little bit of an accent but great control of the language. I would recommend him
Reading is a must for this class, don't expect to skim and get an easy A. He wants you to understand every major objective before moving on, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Also, participate, not only does he expect it, it gets your brain thinking and you will find yourself with a better understanding of the topic. Great Professor!
Philipp is one of the greats at Valley. I wouldn't see a need to take Econ courses from any other teacher if Philipp is available. He grades fair and if you need explanations on anything he will help.
I would have to admit, the way he sets up his classes to only "unlock" next weeks homework by completing (70%) the previous week is kind of what is wrong with our youth. Coddling this younger generation so they "do their work" is what is wrong with them. College is for adults, cut the cord. All in all, great teacher.. you must work! ITS ECON!
He's a really great teacher. He makes sure you understand the material before moving on which helps. Do the homework and quizes and you'll be fine. WAY better than Ron Cipcic!!
Philipp Jonas is an excellent instructor. However, do yourself a favor and enroll in his actual class instead of the online version if given the option. He is great at explaining the material, and attending class is extra credit. Final exam is very difficult - keep up with the moodle quizzes. The Aplia code is needed.
Great professor. If you are willing to put in the work it will be an easy pass.
Phillip is always willing to help if needed. He cares about his students. Homework assignment and quiz are due every week (stay on top of these). Once you complete all the homework and quizzes there is a final exam. Great communication for an online class.
Mr. Jonas is a awesome teacher who has a lot of patience with students. Does a great job explaining each chapter so that students truly understand. Imperative that students attend each class to be successful.
He's quite literally the best, most thorough teacher I've had. He's very professional, and facilitates active classroom participation, without being pushy. The subject matter is simple if you keep up with the course work, and you can make up any missed assignments on the last day of class. 10/10, just take this class.
Mr. Jonas was amazing! Beyond fair and very gracious. Mr. Jonas's first priority is that you understand the material being taught. As long as you put in the work, he will ensure that you succeed! Best class I've taken at KVCC.
Mr. Jonas was my favorite professor at KVCC in my 5 semesters there. I took macro and microecon with him. The tests and homework were difficult for most people, however I went from knowing nothing to a lot about econ after completing his classes. He has a slight accent, but speaks clearly. He is strict with punctuality and phone usage.
Jonas is like a necessary evil. The class is passible as long as you put in the effort. The class is really hard but also fun. Its kind of like being on a sinking ship full of clowns.
Jonas is a very good teacher. He will explain in as many ways as possible until you understand it. He has office hours and will go over assignments, quizzes, etc and make sure you understand. You will need to textbook to do anything. Great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but i can make or break your grade. GO TO CLASS
I've had Jonas for two classes (micro and macro). Both of which have been my hardest classes I've ever taken. However, if you put in work and show up to class you will pass. Jonas is a great instructor and if I had the option to take him for another class I will.
Jonas is a good instructor, knows the subject very well. Tests questions are very thought provoking; you have to read his questions very thoroughly to get the right answer; final exam was 30 % of grade, get less than 50% you fail the course (less than a 2 pt).
Phillip Jonas is by far one of the best professors I've had at KVCC. He makes sure no student is left behind, and gives plenty of opportunity to ask questions for clarification. The class itself was quite easy for me, but others struggled. GO TO CLASS! He is a great lecturer and ensures that the students engage in the lecture.
Excellent lecturer. Always takes time to answer every question and makes things as clear as possible. I used the book the first three weeks and then never touched it again because his lectures covered everything. Final is open note, open book so take detailed notes! Offers up to 10% of grade in extra credit.
Jonas communicates the material clearly and effectively during lectures and the rest of the course, including homework and quizzes, are completed outside of class online. This format is great if you stay caught up on homework and quizzes in correlation with the lectures. You can achieve an A in this class if you try.
Jonas is the best econ teacher at KVCC. He is honest about his class loads. I took 201 and 202 at the same time and still passed with good grades. If you get behind, make sure to catch up quickly. Uses a recording browser for quizzes but allows open note/book. Really time consuming. Unlimited attempts for quizzes/final. 10% EC for attending classes
Doesnt teach the material his own words.
Being an online class, it is more of a "the material is there, you teach yourself". He does put videos up and goes over the material but you are generally in charge of learning the subject matter. However, you pretty much have the entire semester to do the quizzes and the home work is pretty easy. I would recommend taking him!
This class was just hard for me. It's very important to go to class because you will get confused and lost quickly. I found the quizzes to be like completely different than the homework and it made it difficult. I've heard he is better than the other Econ professors though and to take him.
I just got my bachelors degree and through the entirety of my college career, Prof. Jonas was by far the best instructor I have ever had. I took both Macro and Micro economics with him and his lectures were incredibly engaging and concise. This is the only Prof. I have ever felt obligated to write a review for. Can't recommend him enough.
Jonas is very flexible within reason. He also explains things very well. The primary things he has issues with is that he doesn't write his own homework or tests. So sometimes information is conflicting. Other than that I would say, you must keep up with the homework, otherwise you will fail this class.
Although it was a tough class, I found it interesting and professor Jonas has many extra resources and recorded lectures (which he is dressed incredibly sharply in) to aid with a difficult class. I loved the class and found the material useful. He used all of the required class resources instead of other profs that sometimes don't use them
Had him for 201 and 202. Way better than the other econ professors, open note quizzes and tests too.
This professor is pompous and treats people like they have no value. He is a complainer and a negative thinker and he has poor opinions of this country he is not afraid to share
This class was hard. I haven't had any issues in any other class at KVCC (I had a 3.92 until this class and I took it during my last semester at KVCC). I don't know what else to say other than it felt impossible for me to get an A.
Great lecture videos that cover the course material and he allows you to retake the tests as many times as you want. Would definitely reccommend!
Jonas was very caring to all his students- making sure everyone got the material before moving on. I like how he allowed us to use notes(paper) on the quizzes. For this, it is important, you want to make sure you take detailed notes and to pay attention- carefully. Attendance was not mandatory for us but he used the attendance for extra credit.
Mr. Jonas is an excellent instructor. Always professionally dressed, uses constructive feedback when talking to students and is not condescending. His classes are well structured, be prepared for a class-long lecuture every class that he uses video presentations with, but if you pay attention and put the effort in, you can easily pass.
Overall decent experience this professor/class. The content can get challenging, especially at the end of the course. His expectations were very clear & the class was well organized. Some of the lectures weren't super helpful with the homework/tests; while others were extremely helpful.
He was a good professor and his lectures were easy to follow along.
Chilled for ~30 minutes during a lock down when a guy with a knife was outside. Great personality during class and it's very straightforward and easy to succeed if you put the effort in. Cool professor, 10/10 would take again.
He genuinely cares so much about his students, even writing out his own content to avoid having them pay for a textbook. The way he provides lectures and notes (online & in-person) makes it so much easier to focus on actually learning the content. He manages to make difficult content interesting and enjoyable. By far the best professor I've had.
Worst class I've ever taken. The lectures/notes were nothing like the quizzes and exams. The class was unreasonably difficult. He tries to make it so it's hard to fail but I've never struggled so much with a class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
His lectures are both informative and entertaining, test and quizzes are unlimited attempts. He truly cares for his students and if you have a question he'll gladly go over it until you understand. You'll learn a lot in his class and you won't feel overwhelmed with work. Mr Jonas is easily the coolest German dude I ever met. I highly recommend him.
He was a pretty cool teacher, I took one class online and one in person both were good. Attendance was not mandatory and his online lectures are super good. Typically 1 quiz a week, unlimited attempts, and he lets you go as far ahead as you want.
Professor Jonas was a highlight of my time at KVCC. He made the expectations very clear, and made it very hard to get a bad grade. Throughout the semester I had my fair share of personal struggles, and Professor Jonas was understanding. He uses an online textbook that you do not have to pay for. Unlimited retakes. Overall, would 100% recommend him!
Professor Jonas is a good instructor, his class is easy since its hard to fail since all of the quizzes and exams have unlimited attempts. No need to buy a textbook since he uses a free online version. If you take his class in a blended course, all attendance is extra credit. He also provides notes that you can print off if you use them.
