Easily my favourite prof I've had at Queen's. His lectures are funny and engaging and he's just an overall awesome dude.

Phil is very energetic and really cares about his students. This can be seen from his powerpoints, that explode with enthusiasm and positive energy, alongside the clear and concise content. Loved taking FILM 240 with Phil and would strongly recommend taking this course, or any other courses with him in the future.

Professor Gauthier is absolutely wonderful!! He was able to make early 3 hour lectures very enjoyable and informative! Would recommend taking his courses!

Phil is one of the best profs you can get in the film department - I've had him for 240 and 215 and he has consistently been able to make 3 hour lectures funny, interesting, and engaging. He genuinely cares about his students and is so nice and easy to talk to if there's an issue or you just have a question.

I honestly enjoyed his 3 hour lectures every week, and didn't get bored at all (he mixes lecturing with pop culture videos and games to exemplify the topics he is presenting). He is super enthusiastic and engaging and truly cares about all of his students (plus he makes some bomb jokes).

Professor Philippe was an amazing professor, each class was very fun and engaging. This class was by far the best class I have taken so far here at Queen's.

Phil gives the best lectures I've ever had - he's hilarious and presents information clearly for what will be on the tests. As long as you attend lecture and study the powerpoints, the tests are very straightforward and easy to do well in.

Phils lectures are FANTASTIC! Hes always so funny and makes class entertaining. He is a great professor, and I highly recommend him. Just be prepared for 3 hour lectures.

He always does his best to make the long lectures entertaining by including jokes, sound effects, and video clips. He also listens to your concerns, for example I did not agree with the grade I was given for one of the exams, and when I approached him he went through the exam and remarked it. My grade was raised more than 10% when he checked it.

He is the nicest Prof I have ever experienced at Queen's. He truly wants his students to not only enjoy their lectures but even their exams! He makes the space feel safe and he is always happy. I want to take every class he teaches at Queen's!

I was worried to take a 3 hour night class but Philippe made the time fly by! He taught information in such fun ways and made sure to reach everyone using many methods to teach. The time was broken up in fun ways by videos and kahoots. The first midterm was marked hard but Philippe did talk to the TAs afterwards about being to strict. Gr8 Prof!

Everytime I hear the words WAAAAAHHHHHH!, I will think of Phil. I enjoyed his FANTASTIC LECTURES!, even if they were three hours long. His Kahoot quizzes were great too, as was his dancing to the background music. Overall, he was a great professor who cared a lot about his students. I highly recommend him. 10/10, A Real Legend.

I took FILM 240 as an elective. I had heard from others how great of a prof Phil is so I decided to give the class a try and I am so happy I did. Each lecture feels more like a show than a class. Phil makes teaching super entertaining however the material he conveys sticks. He cares so much about his students, and is very accommodating!

Took 215 as an elective and liked it a lot! Go Philippe!

Im a first year science student and took this course as an elective because I thought it was interesting, I got As on all my tests but didnt do that great on my end of term paper. I had never written an essay in uni yet and minimum guidance was given. The TAs were disorganized and rude

Prof Gauthier is extremely open and transparent. When there was a issue with the grades he was honest about making a small mistake and went into a very detailed explanation of how he grades the material in his courses. Also, he makes online courses more engaging than many in person lectures I've attended.

He puts a tremendous amount of effort into his modules. They are interactive and funny but full of knowledge as well. He also has weekly quizzes about the weekly module that really assist in ensuring that you have understood what you have just read. It's a better way for me personally to absorb and remember the module. Overall great professor!

Absolutely wonderful professor. This class was the first one I took at Queens that I actually loved, and it is all because of Mr. Gauthier. You have to do mini pop quizzes after each week that are worth about 2%, but all of the answers are in the reading material (that is really interesting, and fun to go through). I love all the GIFs he uses!

I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class and believe that Philippe truly cares about his students. He makes learning fun and always uses engaging content that makes you want to delve deeper into topics mentioned in modules in your free time. Favourite prof at Queen's thus far.

Lots of lectures and small quizzes in this online class but it is all manageable. Course material was interesting and easy to understand. Its hard to to say a lot about a professor in an online course but I enjoyed the class and all of his notes. I am planning on taking another course with him online.

Professor Gautheir gave great classes! I enjoyed the subject material and was really impressed by how applicable to the real world it was. I learned a lot and his modules were fun, enjoyable and informative. He is great for communicating quickly and with care. A great class and prof!

I'm pretty garbage at online courses, but I found this one to be a piece of cake because Professor Gauthier is so fantastic. The course is beautifully organized, and he's very engaging and while the lecture slides are long they're not overwhelming. I'm taking his FILM260 class online and even though we've never met in person, I'd give this man a kidney. He's definitely not one of those "old school" profs. He's funny, genuine, and gives us a much-needed reminder that professors aren't actually robots. The course itself is THE BEST elective I've ever taken, no "tricks", just learning.

Very interesting class, not the typical type of stuff you'd find in an online university leveled class. It was fun, light and uplifting. The Professor follows the rules, but puts his students first. I have never had a Professor who is so sympathetic and willing to help in anyway he possibly can before, Professor Gauthier was a breath of fresh air. Although the course was not necessarily easy, it was enjoyable because he puts his heart in soul into what he is teaching. Amazing.

He is a really good prof! Very enthusiastic and interesting. He really makes the lectures fun and interactive. He plays songs, funny videos, sound effects, and kahoots at the end of class. The tests and assignments aren't too difficult either. The lectures do drag on a bit, and the 3 hour class could definitely be shortened (it often ends early).

This prof makes it easy to do well if you are putting in the effort. He works hard on his lectures and actually cares about the well-being of his students. So do yourself a favour and show up, laugh at his corny jokes, and appreciate one of the few profs who are passionate about their course and rooting for their students to do well. 10/10

This is my favorite professor in Queen's University and his class is super intriguing including FILM 240 and FILM 260(Online). He gives very fair grades and thorough feedbacks, I would definitely take his classes again in the future.

Im a kinesiology student in my 4th year here at Queen's and Ive never taken a film course before but after taking this one, I regret not taking more throughout my time at university! The prof is always in incredible spirits and really puts a lot of effort into making this class the most fun it possibly can be! Would definitely recommend!!!

Honestly, I had him for two 3 hour lectures basically back to back and still went to every one. He was very fair in the way he did things and overall Has been my favourite prof Ive had at queens. He gives ample opportunity to do well and I cant wait to take another one of his classes.

Online course but I wish I had taken a course with Gauthier in person! His lectures are interactive which make doing the module so much more fun. There are weekly quizzes of 3-6 questions each but there are easy to do. You have to get each part of the questions correct to get full marks, though. Overall the course is great! Happy Birthday!

I have now taken two courses taught by professor Gauthier and they have been the best online courses I have taken at Queen's University. From the layout to the delivery, everything is amazing. This course is a great display of how a professor can change your learning outcome by making a course fun, enjoyable and educational!

A really great person and prof! Puts a lot of effort into being engaging and creating lectures that you want to read. Assignments and quizzes are manageable and interesting. Only downside is strange curve-like grading scheme he uses; it takes a while to get used to which throws you off at first.

He has been very supportive and has really dedicated himself into engaging his students in class! I really enjoy his lessons a lot

The class was well-suited for online. Lectures were asynchronous notes that kept you engaged with videos/graphics/graphic organizers. Grading breakdown seemed fair - quizzes after each module, and a couple shorter writing assignments that fed into the final project writing. If you pay attention and take notes and follow directions you do well!

I REALLY like prof. Gautheir and I am so ready to take another course which taught by him in the next year! Though it is a online course, the content he provides is really engaging and I really like the way that he act like a friend! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

American singer Reba McEntire once said that to succeed in life, you need three things: A wishbone, a backbone, and a funnybone. This may be true, but she neglected to mention the most important fourth thing: An excellent film teacher! I highly reccomend Professor Gauthier's course to all students interested in new media.

Professor Gauthier has special talent to keep things light with his amazing lectures. He has made the course extremely enjoyable. It is an online course but I would love to have a chance to meet him in person. He is awesome like his notes.

Grading criteria could be more specific, like adding some examples on each part. The instruction of assignments could be clearer on guiding students to do a better job on them.

Prof. Gauthier's class is so fun to take!! There is a lot of funny jokes (at least I think) in each lecture notes! The workload is okay and the difficulty is reasonable! I am really looking forward to attend one of his in-person class!!

I never thought I would enjoy a class as much as I have this one. Everyone needs to know (or do they?) that this is a hidden gem. Please do yourself a favor and take Film 260. Follow instructions, which are clearly listed not only in the syllabus, but also in the emails the professor generously sends out in advance of all assignments. TAs rock!

I have taken a lot of online courses and TAed several too, but the stucture of this one is one of my favourites! I particularly loved how engaging the interactive modules were and the weekly posts from the prof :)

This course has been absolutely incredible and given me so much more insight into topics that I already loved. Prof. Gauthier is an amazing instructor and should be an example to other prof. of online courses in how to make the material, fresh, interesting, and accessible. I would take any course he teaches!

This course is well organized and also has different forms of evaluation that provides each student a chance to excel. I really LOVED what Professor Gauthier did with this course all the way from support, to the interactive course notes, to much more! I felt very connected to thi course.

Only downside of this class is the group project in which you all share the mark.

I really appreciate Prof Gauthier dedication to his students, it was extremely helpful especially when I reached out for help not to be turned away or disregarded. As well the interactive course notes made learning very easy as they were a fun read.

I really enjoyed Prof. Philipes courses. He is very funny and I like his teaching style. I open there are more participation marks, since I am not very active to the course if there is no requirement for me to read or discuss the materials from lecture, so I do hope there are more participation marks, it will push me to engage in the courses.

Overall I found this course and Prof. Gauthier's online lectures / preparations to far exceed my already high expectations, and my interest in the field of video games studies and video game culture is much greater than it was prior to this course.

Film240 is my first course which I do some work about film. Course content was very interesting and exciting. This course was out together very well. I really enjoyed it.

I liked the content of this course a lot. I thought the OnQ page was great ! Everything was pretty easy to find. Personally I thought this course workload was a bit too much. For remote learning, the lectures were quite intense and took up a large chunk of my day to get through.

Very interesting and exciting material. Prof. Gauthier was very kind and supportive and did all that he could to help his students succeed. Best Prof Ever! :)

The weekly notes were really awesome and I can tell that Prof Gauthier put a lot off time into developing this course and trying to make it as enticing and interesting as possible. I learned a lot from him and really enjoyed his teaching methods.

Film 240 is a great course! It taught me a lot and I really love it. Good to meet a nice teacher like him. I really enjoyed the interactive notes because a lecture can be very tiring. The simplistic format and funny comments throughout was awesome.

I like this course topic: popular culture, which helps me deeply understand popular culture in my life. The course material is clear and useful. The discussion part is great for studying. Having taken this instructors courses before, I have to say it's been an absolute blast!

Smart, Funny, Prof! The course material in this course was highly conducive to engagement as it was entertaining and fun, while educational. I really enjoyed going through the weekly notes, and course material was clearly presented in them.

LOVED his energy. I always looked forward to reading the "AMAZING and MIND BLOWING" interactive course notes. Also found the videos imbedded very helpful, and gave me a little break from reading.

I cannot rave enough about professor Gauthier. He is one of the best, if not the best, professor I have ever had. I really enjoyed his witty emails, announcements and interactive notes because this kept me up to date and also made his course a lot more intrigued because he can be really funny.

Expectations for the course were easy to understand and execute given the descriptive course assignment descriptions and student exemplars that students could refer to. Interactive course notes are fun, but rephrasing the concepts multiple times (e.g. "in other words") can make it hard to follow and identify the key points. Nevertheless great prof!

i did like how the course content was presented through an interactive format, it made it more enjoyable and engaging. This course provided an expected amount of work each week, unlike other courses where the work load was up and down FILM 240 was balanced and spread out accordingly.

This is the first film course I have taken, so I don't have much background on it. But I found the course material very interesting and really enjoyed learning material I have never been taught before. Great professor! A valuable experience!

Professor Gauthier is an excellent instructor. The course structure is doable - it has quizzes, mastery questions, and a final assignment that can be done well, even in a compressed format. The material is also fascinating and thought-provoking. I recommend this course, especially for those who like to think critically.

Something that I've found this course excels in is building a community and strong relationships online. In a lot of my other online courses, I have felt no connection to any other student or the professor. I think the emphasis on participation has created a good atmosphere where students can get to know each other a little more.

Prof Gauthier was awesome. For a super condensed summer class he keeps everyone on schedule, is always available for questions, provided interactive (and hilarious) course announcements and just generally held a class that fostered learning.

Film courses with Dr. Gauthier are always absolutely phenomenal. I have yet to be confused by an assignment because of unclear guidelines. TA grading also tends to be very good and understandable. Feedback has always been helpful!

I enjoyed this course. As it was completely out of my element and taken out of interest it was a great introduction into FILM. I enjoyed Prof Gautier use of pop-culture as examples when explaining certain concepts in the class. It helped to make the theory of the course more accessible and interesting.

This course fulfills an elective course requirement. I found the resources available and the written instructions on each activity very informative; I appreciated it. Returning to school after twenty years is an intimidating experience, but the instructions made the experience smoother.

Having never taken an online course before I was a bit apprehensive, however Professor Gauthier made it really easy to understand, laid out everything clearly and clarified any questions we may have had about the coursework and the websites themselves which made it quite easy to understand what was expected of us and how to navigate online.

I enjoyed the fact that there was no late penalty and instead, that late work was not accepted. This really helped me stay on track and complete my work at the appropriate time, instead of taking any extra time that is usually provided in other courses. I also found the modules engaging and easy to follow along. The course was designed very well.

Gauthier put a lot of time into his interactive notes to make learning in his class not only compelling but fun! I appreciated all the weekly reminders from him as online classes can sometimes be difficult to keep track of. The layout of his course on onq was also easy to to navigate and find due dates, which was great.

It's a course that I am finding comes in most conversations I have, it teaches you about the things that consume our lives and gives a very interesting view of how things actually appear. I loved the module format. Makes it look really clean and honestly all of this course content and especially layout of time were very digestible, not overwhelming

I enjoyed the course and felt it broadened my horizons as I have never taken a film or media course. The course content is really relevant today which makes you really find your own path of interest within the course. I felt the workload was reasonable and the quizzes and assignments were achievable.

Charismatic, hilarious, and compassionate. Very in tune with modern university students. However, deadlines are strict and you must be aware of them, as there is a number of assignments.

I felt this course fit my interests, it was very engaging and covered a wide range of interesting topics. As someone who majors in Gender Studies, this course directly correlated with my interests. This course could be a cross-listed course with Gender Studies.

As a science student, I was worried about being successful and understanding concepts in FILM 260. This couldn't have been further from the truth. Dr. Gauthier is an amazing teacher and cares about his students. He makes the course work interesting and easy to understand regardless of your background. If you have the chance, take his classes!

I had him for both FILM 240 and 260. He is an incredible prof who creates really engaging online lectures that I always enjoy reading. He is such a kind and happy person and it is very clear that he loves his job as a professor and his students. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him I 10/10 recommend it!

Philippe Gauthier runs a very nice course if I do say so. The material is presented splendidly and was clearly made with enthusiasm. He puts himself into many aspects of the course, and his humour breaks up the monotony of most online coursework. Seems like a fun fella, and is a great professor who cares about his the course and his students.

If you need to take a summer course, TAKE THIS ONE!!! Not only is the class interesting enough to make you want to understand, but Gauthier's hilarious character also makes doing the work enjoyable - which is hard to come by. This course should be the gold standard for all other courses - it is simply perfect. It just can't get better. My king.

Quizzes are not easy and you need to really be able to apply the concepts in your essays and final research project

LOVED Gauthier! I took his class during COVID and his was the only online course that actually engaged me. Modules were interesting and had various videos or clips, assignments were very doable and were not time consuming, and he always took the time to create weekly update videos and check in with us. Professor Gauthier makes learning complicated and interrelated concepts fun and interesting. He brings about media concepts through relevant and fun media known to all, and still considers the potential of those who might not know the media he is referencing. His courses are amazing, and I am sad this is my last.

This was the best online course I have ever taken. I really felt like I was engaging with the materials and the content. I felt like I learned a lot and was well prepared to complete what was required within the course. The only thing I wish could have been different was the timing of the quizzes.

goated professor, loved his energy both in person and virtually! Took this class on the recommendation of a friend, and will be recommending it to others in the future due to how great it is! I particularly loved the mastery questions. His karaoke was incredible, audition for the voice!

This course was a bit different from most other courses I have taken in the past, which is why I enjoyed it so much. I really enjoyed how the course content was presented. Instead of pages on pages of notes, the professor would include multimedia elements, like videos and photos and GIFs, which helped to enhance my understanding of the material.

This was such an amazing course. I wasn't sure if I would like the material but it was taught in an extremely digestible and fun way that always kept me excited to learn more. Prof is hilarious, passionate about everything, and has great taste in cat images

I very much enjoyed the class. Prof Gauthier is very positive and excited. He is great at making the course fun. However, sometimes I found his interactive course notes confusing (e.g. not using the correct grammar/sentence structure) which made it hard to understand topics at some points. Overall, it was a great course.

Professor was so passionate, I love his energy in this course. The course was great and well laid out. My only concern was having the due date for assignments on Friday vs Sunday was hard for me as I woke full time during the week.

I thoroughly enjoyed the content of FILM 260 and the way it was delivered - the professor has an excellent sense of humour! The one-week grace periods were extremely beneficial and the instructor was very responsive on the Course Questions Forum, even on weekends, which was extremely appreciated.

the course overall was really interesting. I did like that the quizzes were structured in a way that forces students to read the material over again. I found the delivery engaging and creative- which matched the overall tone of the course. The instructor was kind and attentive and really passionate about teaching.

Prof Gauthier is a very engaging speaker and a lot of fun! It is clear that he put a lot of care into making this course the best it can be, and as accessible to students as possible. He responds to email inquiries quickly and he is very good at helping us students stay on track (ex: reminders of upcoming due dates). Overall, I had a great time!

Instructor Gauthier is a considerate person who accommodates my disability related needs, he is compassionate about his students and affectionate about his courses however he could improve the structures of his courses to be more accessible and the pronunciation of his speaking to be more intelligible.
