He's a funny guy and is always making jokes in class and keeping things interesting, which can be difficult in a theory-based course. His accent is a bit hard to understand but it's nothing too severe. I find the class to be easy and classes are unnecessary to attend because he posts slides online and exams questions are taken straight from slides.

Prof Gauthier is very enthusiastic and will go out of his way to help you out. His teaching is interesting and engaging and his lectures are very funny. He makes sure you know what will be in the exam, so skipping class is definitely not recommended. He thankfully does not struggle with technology. Do recommend 10/10

By far the best prof I have ever had! He is absolutely hilarious! Every lecture is more entertaining than the last! This prof is so enthusiastic it's impossible not to be in a good mood when you get out of his class. He is very helpful and very organized and you know exactly what to expect on the exams.

The course is boring, but the prof is great. He posts everything online and tells you the information you need to know for the tests. He is easily approachable, makes a lot of jokes, has a lot of energy, and is extremely nice. He gives 2 mini quizzes but the quizzes and tests are easy. I would take another class with him in a heart beat. He rocks.

Il est un de mes professeurs préféré de mon parcours universitaire. Même si la matière du cours n'est pas la plus intéressante, il trouve un moyen de la rendre intéressante avec des effets sonores, des vidéos, etc. Il est drôle et souhaite vraiment que ses étudiants passe le cours. Les photos pour sa maman ou les vidéos de Rick Astley sont de mise!

Admittedly, I'm not too interested in the subject matter, but Prof. Gauthier's enthusiasm is infectious. Exams are low-stress and healthy for your GPA: just have to learn the power-point slides. There's a high probability of getting bonus points too. Plus instead of a final, there's only a paper. It's a great complimentary course to take.

He is organized and clear in his teachings while making students learn in a happy environment. I would be very inclined to take another course with this professor and recommend 240.

This course was genuinely interesting and easy to do well in if you do what the prof says. He is hilarious and entertaining, but also genuinely a good person who cares about your performance in the course. If you study what he tells you to, you will do well and the material isn't painful or difficult to learn! I would definitely recommend it!

Super awesome lectures that are fun and interesting. Be prepared to laugh. There are 3 exams throughout the semester and one final paper. It is all pretty easy as long as you know the material. The Prof is also really understanding. I learned a lot in this class. I'm really glad I took it. My semester would have been boring without it.

He teaches a pretty fun subject but he makes it even more interesting! He's super funny and he's always willing to help! The class is pretty easy with 3 tests and a final essay. He's a fun guy and was always encouraging us in his emails to us about tests! Just take a class with him dammit!

The class was made interesting by his unique lecturing approach! He managed to find a way to make 3 hour lectures go by slightly faster while making you remember the content you learned. Mad respect for the guy, hilarious at times and really knew what it was like to be in a student's shoes. The course wasn't challenging but very lecture oriented.

Philippe was super helpful when it came to providing insight for the exams and the final paper. He was super funny which made showing up for the long lecture worth it because you knew it would also be a stand-up show. The lectures, although very much drawn from the content provided for exam prep, are definitely worth attending.

Prof. Gauthier is a one of a kind prof. He is very fun and keeps things light-hearted in a film history course at 7pm at night. High energy and always means well. Great guy, absolutely hilarious. I was in one of his film classes that he taught in English and he doubted himself sometimes but honestly his english was 100% understandable and his lectures made complete sense- take home exams were from the lecture slides but he can throw in some tricky questions so read carefully. Great class and guy overall

I'm so happy to have taken his class before I left uOttawa - he made up for the awful profs I had.

If you want to laugh and have fun while you're learning, this is the prof for you. I was super excited that I got to be in one of his lectures again and I wasn't let down. He's also really easy going and understanding of other things that are going on in students' lives.

The assignments relayed very closely to the material presented in lectures and the TAs gave excellent and constructive feedback. 5 stars would definitely recommend taking any course with this prof.

I really enjoyed this course, as I didn't know what to expect from a course from a different faculty than my own (Science). The online modules were EXTREMELY well organized and fun to follow. The quizzes were nice as they gave us opportunities to test our knowledge without high stakes. Overall 10/10 for the course and the prof!

What I liked about the course was the organization and the effort put in by Professor Gauthier in letting students improve. There are numerous chances given for the weekly quizzes and for each assignment, there is a preliminary step which students use to get feedback from others and to give feedback. The prof and TAs gave good feedback.

Rarely do professors even acknowledge the online resources as a viable option to teach, but Gauthier actually designed his notes to be both interactable and easy to read, which actually enhanced my learning and attentiveness by a lot. It was nice to have the textbook online. The movies we had to watch for class were really cool. Overall, this class was really cool and fun.

I normally don't learn well through completely online courses, however, his interactive course notes were very informative and interesting. Every time I sat down to start the course notes I would always finish since they were so entertaining. I really enjoyed how the course had structure in indicating where we should be in our work.

Class was easy, teacher is super nice. There were no midtemrs and there was no final exam. 10% is participation, 63% is online quizzes where the questions come straight from the textbook (all multiple choice), and 37% were "assignments" that are all multiple choice that you redo until you get 100%.

Professor Philippe Gauthier has been the most engaging, caring, and funny professors I've ever had in university. I took his 5-8PM intro to communications class and he keeps his lectures under 1 hour - 45min. There were only 4 in person classes and the other times we would just join an online zoom that would be posted later on the Brightspace.

He's an amazing teacher, he tries to make his class less boring and entertaining, he tries to make jokes in class and make sure everyone is enjoying the class. The one thing he does the most is cancels class and most stuff are online and open book! NO EXAMS, quizzes online, I suggest you take his course for easy grade for an elective.

One thing that could be improved is the Question de connaissance need to have their own presentation posted attractively instead of always only going back to the syllabus.
