Tough class, a lot of long papers to write, many hours spend in and outside the classroom but professor was great and easy going. He makes you work for the grade but you can learn a lot from his class.
Prof hamid made the class fun eventhough some of the topics were uncomfortable for some of us. He have 3 exams and an optional final. Took the best of 3 exams. The exams werent horrible. Alot of people didnt come to class afterva while but it was a huge lecture hall. He seemed like a nice guy.
Lectures dont give you anything new and they are posted online, you can read it from home. He is nice guy, but he needs to get ready before class better or something. I went to every lecture and read every chapter and i got C+. Some of the questions in a test are not covered in the lectures and I just guessed them. Hes not the worst though.
he was a nice guy, and made the class fun. like the other person said, he gave an optional final that could replace an exam score. the final was pretty straight forward.
He basically reads the slides. Too much material for exams. He's not considerate at all! with anything.... not a fair professor.
Hes a pretty chill professor. his exams are straight forward do you do have to read the textbook. the exams arent the hardest thing in the world
Exams straight foward but must study. Picks best 4/ 5 exams. Lectures are not boring would def. take him again
pretty easy class, the only thing is you have to read the textbook. like the other people said, he took 4 out of 5 exams which was nice
He literally just reads from the slides w/o adding anything impt. Im a straight A student, pre-PA & I got a C+. I went to almost every lecture but unless u memorize the txtbk forget it. For the group presentation he grades it so harsh that for the stupidest thing hell take like 10 pts off. The class itself is interesting but he makes it boring.
he really made me appricate psychopathology. he gave us an optional final in which we could throw away one of our lowest grades. the exams seemed fair. i didnt think group presentation was bad. I got a 90 on it. he curved it as well.
really cool guy that really seems to know his stuff. he gives extra credit and an optional final exam.
250 is a heavy course load class as it is, but he tried to make it as easy as possible. Your grade is based off of 4 papers, 2 tests (all multiple choice) and participation. He is extremely helpful if you take the time to ask him questions and use all of the time given for the class (3+ hours), use him and the TA for help and you can do okay!
he's a chill professor and is quite caring. it's important to emphasize that you DO NEED THE TEXTBOOK. he has 4 exams and a SEPARATE cumulative optional final. so one of those 5 is dropped. just read the textbook chapters thoroughly and you will do good on the exams. don't solely rely on the slides because that accounts for only like half the exam
He's okay. Curves exams, few points only. Does not prepare students for exams at all and requires you to ask him questions for review classes or he leaves first 10min of class. 5 exams, only 4 counted, exams based mostly on textbook, exemplifies pearson slides. Lucky enough to give extra credit at the end, total of 3 pts. He is knowledgable.
psy 250 is a alot of work but he made it as easy as possible. his grading was also pretty relaxed. you'll pass if you just do the work.
Took this class for spring 2020. It is a hard class and he doesnt make it easy. His rubric is very confusing for the papers. total is 4, 10 page papers (switched to online change to 7) and 3 exams lowest dropped). He made me sad. He will make u sad dont take him. Confusing and unapproachable. Bad. STAY AWAY!!
100% of ur grade is exams, no homework, quizzes and no attendance or participation. Exams are 40 MC and two SA, the MC is very easy if you actually read the textbook, like literally every answer is in the textbook. He's funny and gives interesting lectures but he tends to be vague with answering your questions about the exams and kind of a hardass.
He made this class so much harder than it needed to be. Refuses to record & upload lectures. Your grade is based on exams only (which is lazy of professors IMO). No proper study guide . Tests have to be done on/during the day/time stated (We're in a pandemic and this is unrealistic). I would suggest taking this class with a different professor.
Professor Hamid is great! Good class, straightforward, your grade is based on the exams, read the textbook and review the slides and you will be fine- no HW- lectures are interesting- He makes it easy to understand. Would definitely take him again!
Straight-forward class, no bs. 5 exams; lowest score dropped 25% each (4 counted). most lectures were asynch but synch were mediocre, based on notes from textbook. read the book (literally word for word) and you'll do well. everything from the assigned readings are testable.
Class was graded on 4 exams and 1 optional final. The exams are straight forward, every answer is found straight in the textbook. He also curves the exams sometimes. Study from the textbook and you'll do well on the exams.
Take any professor other than him. He is disorganized rambles, in 3 hour lectures, and is not reachable by email. 3 exams and 4 research papers. Research papers are not easy to begin with but on the first paper only a handful of students got 80s nothing higher bc of his teaching. He doesnt provide enough info and expects way too much. stay away!
The workload is heavy but expected for 250, however, this class is made tougher by the professor's attitude in class. He is a difficult professor to take online. It is important to have complete knowledge of what you've learned in 248 or you'll be reprimanded. Papers are graded very strictly and without any leniency. There are no second chances.
The entire class is him typing up emails that shouldve been done before class while we just wait. Bc he is so disorganized he has to push back due dates & papers are due within 1 Wk of each other. Hes rude & covers it by saying he just wants us to do well. He gives little information on what he wants from papers and grades harshly. HES TERRIBLE.
He knows what he is talking about. the exams were not bad Just had to prepare for them. HE CURVES!
I thought professor hamid was ok. the papers were hard but i went to office hours and he provided more feedback there.
I thought he was really nice. The class was online which is hard but he gave us recordings of lectures.
this was a tough class. l really wish he recorded though. 2exams 10% each and 4 papers worth 20% each. dont expect an A. If u pass with a D then consider urseldf lucky
grade is mainly 4 pprs and 2 exams. must have prior knowledge of JASP and PROFESSIONAL academic writing. gives good resources and feedback for academic writing, you get better after each paper. go to office hrs and listen to feedback! fair but tough so cant be dumb or lazy. curved final grade. dont buy txtbk. be clear with questions. not an easy A
strictly graded on 4 exams, no room to gain extra points, and no makeup exams allowed either.
Professor isn't as bad as he seems. There's 5 exams (all curved) and the lowest test grade is dropped. No hw or quizzes given. All he asks is for you to read the text book Extra credit isn't offered because our responsibilities are blunt and simple (just read) I didn't attend any classes, but read the chapters the night before and passed easily
He's the type of professor your high school teachers told you about. Doesn't necessarily make him bad, I felt like his class was fine and as expected. People only complained because I think they expected a more integrative class, but the class was light. You just need to read the textbook. No EC because no assignments were given.
Professor Hamid really tried to make the class as easy as possible for us. I attended his office hours and thats where I got the most help. He is really nice and really tries to help.
Not lenient nor understanding. THE TOUGHEST GRADER! Not accessible outside of class. Takes so long to reply to emails. You can't take him if you have other classes or a full time job. His class consumes all of your time. The anxiety that this class has brought me is unreal.
He is not a terrible professor, but he is tough. You need to understand the textbook and his lectures to pass the exam. The material keeps on building on from the first exam. If you don't understand the first few lectures, you will be lost for the rest of the semester. READ THE TEXTBOOK and attend his LECTURES!
Professor Hamid is definitely not a professor to just give you an easy A. He will give you all the tools you need but its up to you to strive in this class. He was extremely helpful during office hours and always got back to emails. He may not always be the nicest but he truly does want you to succeed in his courses.
super nice professor that tries to get you the best grade if you take the time to meet with him
I was told that this would be a hard class but Professor hamid mad an effort to make it as easy as possible. The class required alot of writing though.
he's very clear that the class is based on four exams. i dont prefer that but you can replace the lowest test with the optional final. his lectures help understand thhe material but its better to just read the textbook
This course is already tough but he lowkey made it tougher. Seems like he could care less if we pass. His feedback isn't constructive. he'll put "reword this" a million times then won't explain why you scored so low. Won't use his office hours to go into depth abt anything. Expects you to remember everything from psych 248 Choose another professor
He is a tough grader and offers office hours but doesn't really want you to come. He says that he can't help with your paper only if you have ONE or TWO questions. Very passive aggressive and acts as a know it all. Avoid!! Do yourself a favor and take a different class or different professor. It will make your life so much easier and stress free!
he was really nice during but the class was a lecture hall so it was hard to ask questions. I had to ask after class
This class demands that we take four tests throughout the semester that are extremely hard and that's all that counts towards your grade. If you fail even one exam, say goodbye to that B. I got a C+ that I worked incredibly hard for. I have never put this much effort into a class before and only received a C!! Just horrible!
really nice professor that seems to know what he is talking about. he gave us great examples of content. I am taking him again next semster.
He is one of the worst professors because this is the second time I have taken a class with the same professor since the last semester. I had difficulty with the exam because I couldn't study without going through the exercises and study guide for this course. I always got the lowest score on every test and he was tracking of time during the exams.
His exams are hard especially the fourth one. He puts some questions that are outside of what we learned in class. Not friendly at all. Expects us to come to class on time while he is always 5-10 minutes late. Deducts 5 points off your final averaged grade (even you have a good exam grades) when missed 3-4 lectures which is very dumb decision.
Avoid taking this professor if you can. He is the worst professor so far. He would expect us to come to class on time as he takes attendance within the first 5 min of class yet he comes late half the time. He reads off his slides and is very lazy. Just don't take him unless you want to teach yourself and show up every time just for attendance.
He is the toughest professor yet! He does not give study guides! He disregards your concerns and is sensitive when asked to slow down or repeat information. The exams are hard(40 questions) and based on four chapters (there are 16 in total). The final is optional. Attendance is mandatory! More than three absences, five points taken off final grade
Can't hate him, but don't love him. He is a very no bs, knows his stuff kind of professor who gives no extensions, no second chances, or any leniency on anything. He is very online savvy, but uses this to limits your time with the materials when he does post them (usually does not). Deducts 5 points off final grade for every 3x you are absent/late.
Okay for large lecture hall type class. Grade only based on 4 exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Someone like him does not care about the students. He does not share slides, study guides or even link to the textbook. I had him for an elective and it was incredibly anxiety inducing. He arrives late to class but takes offpoints from final when students are late.
required students to be on time while be consistently 10-15 minutes late throughout the whole semester. would rush thru slides bc he was late. ppt slides were HEAVILY copied from the textbook. exams were based on slides and questions were straightforward. class isn't hard professor is just difficult.
PLEASE AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! I took him for a class called cognitive processes and while the subject is interesting, this professor is a nightmare. He does not share slides, study guides nor tell you what will be on the test. You grade is determined by exams only. He seems to NOT not enjoy teaching. Also attendance is a part of the grade.
Most unprofessional teacher ever!!! He is rude, unkind, and does not care about his students. Why a teacher would ever want to decrease his students final grade because of absences is beyond my comprehension. Would have gotten an A as in my four other classes with the same # of absences which was only 5. Like things happen in life. Do Not Take Him!
Prof hamid was easy going. He knew his stuff. Just go to class and do the assigned readings and you will be fine.
He did a great job of explaining the content of the course. I feel like I got alot out of his class.
He is good at explaining the disorders and offered alot of examples from his work. I appreciated how he really tried to get us to understand the concepts.
the tests were fare. Professor Hamid was always willing to meet with me to talk about things i didnt understand and went over exams with me
He is not sympathetic to students in any way. His class is well structured but his attitude is not in the students favor. I did not hate being in his class, but I would suggest you look elsewhere.
He is really fair with students and somewhat by the book. His class is straightforward. 5 exams and you can drop one and the department makes him give a paper.
Ive taken two classes with professor Hamid. I found him to be nice when I spoke with him. I thought his exams were fair as well. I'd take him again.
I had a few classis with professor hamid. i thought his lecture was clear and appreciated that his grading was straight forward.
This is a tough class, I took it during the Summer and was very fast paced. If you take him I really recommend actually reading the book, he does not give study guides and may or may not post slides but if you are confused about a concept he will explain until you understand and review your test grades individually during office hours if needed.
Horrible! He has an awful attitude and all he does is read off the slides which is info taken directly from the textbook. 4 exams that are 25% each and he offers an extra credit paper (for like 2 points :/ ) He used to deduct points from people who missed his class, but now he just adds 3 points if you have 80% attendance. Overall try to avoid him.
his exams are so long and require you to memorize all of the information he gave you throughout the lectures. He takes off points if you don't attend his class five times removing one letter grade off of your final grade.
for Clinical Psych/344 . He is a good lecturer that he keeps you engaged with the material and seems genuinely interested in what he is teaching. Though he is tough. He will not go out of his way for students, and said he wouldn't accept the paper even a minute late. Test questions were fair and he gave a small curve if people didn't do well.
The tests are difficult, even if you understand large concepts, he gets super detailed with his questions. Its a lotttt of info, you cannot cram, start preparing for exams well in advance and go to class. He's a decent teacher, reads off slides, a little disgruntled but it's manageable. Don't mess up on the exams or you're screwed.
great professor and very fair
Currently taking him (and he knows I do not like him). I received a 4.0 last semester and still have straight A's in his class, but cannot stand his lack of professionalism and negative attitude every. single. morning. Just spoke to another student a few minutes ago as she cried over him. Very anxiety-inducing guy in general.
He switches up all the time!! He say's attendence isn't mandatory but then he changes it mid semester like attendence was extrea credit now its mandatory he's super lecture and test heavy overall hes just switches up constantly and so annoying
Honestly, I think the bad reviews come from people who didn't follow directions. He's super clear, realistic, and tells you exactly what he wants to see. it is a tough class but he does his best to make it as painless as possible. He explains everything and gives great feedback. If you put in the effort, you'll improve. I really enjoyed this class.
I wrote a negative review here and gave him a 1 rating, saying I had a 4.0 and don't like him. Since I don't know how to remove a review, I figured I would add another one. Overall, yes, he is a stressed, burnt-out guy, but he genuinely helps guide the class with writing papers. He also gave an insane amount of extra credit. Take him for psy 250!
he just doesn't really care to teach. his grades are based solely off tests he makes the tests extremely hard.doesn't provide any type of help for the tests. when you ask questions or need help for tests he doesn't answer his tests are specific and the language used on the tests are confusing. save yourself just don't take the class, unless needed
Throughout the semester, I have felt a lack of support from Professor Phillip Hamid. I feel sympathy specifically for people who are taking his class with English as their 2nd language. I feel for these people because of the wording on the exam questions. A lot of people including myself have been failing his exams because of his wording.
I'm really dissatisfied with the quality of education I got from this class and professor. While we reviewed all of the exams, there were questions about the right answer and on multiple occasions he didn't know, he said he'd have to look back at the textbook. That shows how the exams are too hard for even the professor, and that's VERY concerning.
Rude inaccessible. His course is graded by 3-4 exams only. Asked more in-depth questions about the lecture, says question is 'beyond scope of course." When needing medical accommodations for an exam, he did not respect the request. Everyone failed first 2 exams and was was very defensive Then allowed to bring in cheat sheet still were not helpful
Please be aware all of the GOOD reviews for Phillip are NOT Psych 210. If you are planning to take him for Psych 210, don't. His exams questions are way too lengthy and his choice of vocabulary is unnecessarily difficult. Many students were complaining about failing the tests so he implemented cheat sheets. Even with cheat sheets, students failed.
A TERRIBLE professor. Makes his tests difficult for no reason. He gave cheat sheets halfway into the semester because students were complaining about the difficulty. Even with the cheat sheets most of the class still failed… how do you give cheat sheets for the class and still have majority failing ??? RIP his class avg scores lol.
Don't take this prof for easy A! Your grade is how well you do on the 4 exams but exams are purposely difficult. He says its to "understand concepts rather than recall definitions" but he doesn't understand his own questions when students have asked for clarification. No study guide & cheat sheets were ironically not helpful. Choose another prof.
Overall this class is very doable if you stay on top of readings and attend lectures. It's lecture-heavy and exams are hard, but if you take notes and study consistently, you'll be fine. The professor is approachable, helpful, and willing to answer questions after class or during office hours.
Professor hamid is a great psychology professor he is knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about the subject. his classes were engaging and thoughtfully organized. Highly recommend!
Professor hamid was amazing! His energy, humor, and passion for 223 made class something to look forward to. He broke things down in a way that actually made sense, and he was always happy to help. Easily one of the most engaging and supportive professors at Hunter for me
he is cool when i spoke to him. class is straight forward attend classes an read and i did fine.
im not sure why this prof has such mixed reviews, he's really great. his lectures were engaging even tho he does just read off of his slides, he adds in a story of his own here and there and says certain things that later help you remember the concept you're being tested on. hes funny too, he is a little sarcastic sometimes but it's never serious
The slides are only accessible on Top Hat during class, but he doesn't mind people taking screenshots of them. There are 4 mandatory exams and an optional final. Exams weigh heavily into your final grade, but he curves them and allows you to bring cheat sheets, so it's not as bad as it might sound. Solid professor overall.
Final grade is based on the average of your 4 exams with the chance to replace lowest exam grade by taking the optional final. No homework, but expect to do a good amount of self-studying. He doesn't post his slides so screenshot them and review that along with reading the mandatory textbook. Great prof, easy A if you put in the effort and study.
