He makes you learn the material and really cares how you do. His tests are all off his notes. He also makes his classes fun and easy to learn.
One of the best professors on campus. Gives very energetic lectures and cares if you learn. Very approachable. Would recommend him for any class.
Not that great for teaching. Goes off into dry commentary and tangents. Strange individual. Probably better off with another econ prof.
aside from 2 subjects (economics and sports) you are probably smarter than he is. tests/quizzes are really confusing and he will sometimes screw you over. try to avoid him if you can.
likes to relate sports to econ, so if you arent into that kinda thing, can be hard to relate to him. his notes are messy and sometimes hard to follow. although he is a very nice man.
Miller just wrote the notes on the board and talked about the topics as he went along. He is a good teacher and knows what he is talkign about. He does relate Econ to sports. DO NOT walk into his class late. He will get pissed and start swearing. Funny if its not aimed at you. Funny guy.
He goes really fast and his tests and quizzes are hard. When someone asks a question he says to see him after class. Ok but what if we all have the same question? Avoid if possible!
This guy is one great prof IF you've done your reading and IF you think at all about what goes on in class. But if you don't want to work, take sociology or something. Plays a mean guitar, too.
Mr. Miller is super funny and loves Beer (so I had an easy time relating and I'm a chick) He really cares if you are learning the material or not. It's touch class and you'll have to put some time and energy into it but I would definately recommend him. He loves Missouri so wear the rivals hat!!!!
The best teacher i have had so far. tests and quizes are not bad if you go to class and take the notes. The only people i know that didnt like him were lazy and werent passing for reasons unrelated to his teaching.
I went to class every day, and I wasn't too sure what was going on. I thought the tests and quizzes were hard, and he said himself he likes to make them challenging. I just barely got a B.
really great guy that loves to teach. trys to make this stuff as fun as it can be. tells funny stories and loves sports.
Great Teacher!! He cares if you learn and takes time to prepare for class. Take him!!!
Just like most good teachers, you do well if you do your part and try to learn. Economics isn't easy for most people, and if you are one of those people, then he may be difficult. Good guy too, in and out of class.
Great guy. Huge into sports, so makes Econ as interesting as it can be. Everything on tests and quizes are in the notes, no suprises. If you go to class, look over notes before tests, you should do just fine.
macro i think no homework
Almost nothing he writes on the board (which is all abiviated, so if you miss a class or weren't paying attention when he said what it ment - you're lost) is actually on the test. Terrible teahing style. Not very interesting. Can't believe he has his PhD in economics. Would never recommend. Definately retaking this class.
He's a terrible professor. I am an economics major and this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. On top of that he's a sarcastic ****. He seems nice at first.
Phil is an interesting guy, he likes to talk sports and knows what he's talking about. He likes to stick to Baseball and College Football as main topics because those interest him the most. My advice is to take this in the fall so you can at least apply his connections between College Football and Baseball to the class.
Not a bad teacher but you have to go to class to get the notes. No homework or attendance points only 3 tests and then the final.
Hes a good teacher for the most part. He drops one test which makes things easier. Curves a little. Tests are a little hard. Class is interesting when he gets into sports.
Miller sucks. Sure, he's enthusiastic about sports, but when it comes to economics, it's hard to undersand. He goes by the notes too quickly and the book sucks--it doesn't go along with his notes at all. So if you don't go to class, you're completely lost. He's hard and basically he SUCKS. Don't take him if you don't have to.

He's not bad. Makes class very dull but writes everything down and tests come right from the notes.
Great class, anyone interested in sports should take. tests are easy and mainly based on notes so as long as you attend class you should do fine
I would recommend him. But expect to study. I wish he would have done assignments to help balance the grade. But he doesn't, your grade is based on three tests and the final but he drops one test (the lowest of the first three). His tests are really hard but the tests are primarily on lecture notes. He explains things so everyone understands.
He is very straight forward and tells you the 1st day what he expects of you. It's nice because attendence isn't mandatory, so as long as you have a buddy in class, you don't have to go. Get ready to study for tests-he leaves the last 2 test for the last month of the semester so it's really crammed.
He is an excellent professor, very helpful and very into his subject. Going to class helps very much and I would recommend doing so but its up to you. Take his class!
I though sports and economics combined would be great, but a monday night 3 hour power point is not at all intriguing. If he added some projects or something it would be a more interesting class. 3 tests one being a final, not cumulative and never used the book just straight notes. I expect to get B to a B+
Has a clarity of style that makes economics fun and interesting. did a great job of refreshing us on Calculus in about an hour!
Nice guy and great sense of humour. Very down to earth. He is a great teacher and loves the topic he teaches. He makes everything very clear to understand with many examples. I suggest taking him.
WELL, this class was weird ! he gives easy explainations every class (beer, pizza, football examples)and the exams were very confused !! every one thought he did well in his exams but when they get the grades it completely the opposite, he is the only one who teaches this class I got a D in his class and I'm not gonna take it with him again.
He makes economics very interesting and gives a lot of examples. He's very down to earth and chilled. You'll get along with him if you watch American football.Exams aren't easy but aren't hard either. You have to study hard for the exams. Final is cumulitive. No HW just attend class and study hard for the exams and he'll make you love it.recommended!
Great guy. Loves sports and uses many examples of them. He knows what he's talking about. I recommend him. Usually get out of class early
one of the best teachers i ever had. really good at explaining things. got an A in the class. TAKE MILLER
Take good notes, study notes, take test.....Explains information well
Really good teacher, relates alot of things to sports. Always willing to help you out.
Grades become subjective after final.
This class was so boring!! You would think being a sports economics class that it would be interesting, but he just wrote notes on the bored and lectured. No videos or anything interesting. Just 3 tests total for grading. I was hoping for a fun project or something but listening to a guy talk for 2 and a half hours wasn't fun. Don't buy the book.
Miller is a nice guy and will explain stuff if you talk to him. He just lectures and has tests. Simple. NO ONLINE GARBAGE! I liked that about it. The material is sort of dry but it is econ. He has a bit of a sense of humor, but is dull compared to Professor Simonson for Macro (he rocks). Overall, the class is pretty good. Take it.
Easy class. DON'T BUY THE BOOK, just go to class and take notes. I highly recommend Miller! Fun personality that keeps you interested
Miller is the best teacher I have had. He is a huge sports junkie and relates many of the material so students can understand. I would recomend this class to everyone. Great Professor hands down. (no need for the book IF you go to class)
Just hated this guy. Didnt help you at all, and made things so confusing.
Super easy class. He does not require attendance. I only went to class 3 times other than going for the tests and still got an A. Good teacher and makes econ pretty easy to understand.
lots of information, he explained it well. Many notes to take, but I understood everything he said.
I really liked this professor. His notes are easy, but class is a bit boring. Will answer any questions you have and he has practice exams online that are similar to the actual test.
great teacher always talked about sports to make the class some what entertaining and he keeps you awake. It was my first econ class and i loved it
Attendance is not mandatory and there is no homework, but going the class and reading the book on unclear topics is an easy way to do well. Overall a decent class.
I would say attendance is mandatory to get a good grade on the exams (which is your whole grade) you must have the notes either get them from someone, or go to class exams are your whole grade no homework or any other points no extra credit you get one dropped exam out of 3 he is a super funny guy nd makes the class enjoyable! just study the notes!
He was just a teacher that liked to write everything on the board, made everything so confusing… an the whole class is based on test grades. so stupid
just notes, nothing interesting. he writes notes everywhere so your not sure how to keep it all in line. everything based on three test.
He LOVES his whiteboard
Your grade is based off of a few tests. The tests are based off a bunch of BS he writes on the board. You must write down EVERYTHING he writes on the board in order to study for the tests. NEVER used the book. Horrible professor! Don't take him.
Don't have to attend, but if you skip class you're screwed. Final grade is based off of two 30 point midterms and a 40 point final. You do get to drop your lowest midterm, but if you're a bad tester, you have your work cut in for you.
Many asked for help, all refused. Tests did not reflect lecture material. Got mid-term grades 1 week before finals--good luck if you did badly. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!
There are a total of 3 exams plus the final and your grade is based off of only theses exams. One exam is dropped but if you are a bad test taker, this class will be a challenge. He writes a lot of his notes on the board but is very disorganized and hard to follow. Do not need to attend class but it is highly recommended. Do not need book.
Great teacher. Great guy. He is helpful and enthusiastic. His sports econ class is very interesting if you like economics.
Lectures are very long and boring. Writes everything on tablets and projects it on an overhead. Uses a lot of short cuts when writing his lecture notes, so beware. Hard to guess what your grade is. He goes by 3 tests and one final. Lowest test score is dropped. Don't need the book, though you will have to attend class for lecture notes.
Funny dude. Class is optional, but highly recommended. Book is not necessary. 90% OF THE QUESTIONS ON THE TEST ARE PROVIDED WITH THE PRACTICE QUESTIONS. Study the practice questions, show up to class, pay attention, you will be fine.
This class had 3 test and a cumulative final. This was the only things that were part of your grade. He drops the lowest score. Does not work well will students if make-up needed (even if its a school event). Lectures are boring. No electronics (even computer) in class. Buying the book is a waste of money - study from stuff on d2l
His class consisted of three tests and the final-all 30 points, & he drops your lowest score. He does allow you to drop your final if you're happy with your grade after the first three tests. The entire class is worth 90 points so you have to do good on the tests. He just writes notes for you to copy, and you have to go to class to get the notes
Really does a great job teaching, best econ teacher in the department i think. fun class, makes you laugh, not hard of a class, didnt even buy the textbook, show up to class and take notes, and youll pass just fine. Uses real life experiences as examples and doesnt just read out of a book like saleheen kahn
3 tests worth a total of 90 points is your entire grade. I only went to class about 6 times over the semester but I received an A in the class. He was a good professor and his study guides are a must.
The best teacher to take in the economics department! Econ is not an easy course for anyone but Phil makes his classes interesting, provides you with practice questions which are put directly into the exams. He genuinely cares about his students. Showing up to lecture is a MUST. Youtube videos such as ACDC Econ helps with anything you need help on
He made difficult economics easier to learn
Great teacher. I enjoyed his lectures so I learned alot. Attendance was not mandatory. No homework - just 3 midterms and a final. He dropped the lowest midterm. Great class with no surprises. Study the book, study guide, and your notes and you should get a good grade.
Makes it easy to pass a class that to me was one of the most boring subjects I could have ever taken a class about. He's lively and a decent instructor, and should I need more econ, I would probably stick with him. His grading method is simple; three tests and a final, and the lowest score is dropped. Do well on the first three tests, skip final.
First of all, GO TO EVERY CLASS. Even if you don't pay attention, it's the little things such as the rules of economics that will save you in the test. Memorize the study guides, the questions are often the exact same or very similar to the study guides. I would take a week before exams to study, I got an average of A- on each . Not hard if u care
Writes down notes alongside the class so you know what you need to have memorized. Anything that he doesn't write on his notepad won't be on the tests.
No homework, but lecture heavy class. The tests are not as hard as you think if you study for it. You rarely use the textbook, but it is helpful for understanding the lecture. Other than that he is type that makes economic-related jokes.
Good teacher if you're only doing micro/macro as a general, but skips stuff you need for higher level econ. Went into my Labor Econ class without some knowledge I needed (first thing that comes to mind is the income effect & substitution effect). Luckily I was able to catch up with explanations in class, but it should taught in the first place...
He is good! But he has so many heavy lectures! Do not worry, he gives you practice problems. You need to read the books! All he teaches are from the book! Even though it is not used, you still need it! First exams is the most tough one. Make sure show on the class and study hard! I also like his sense of humor.
Nice Professor, means well but his beginning Econ 202 class seems way more complicated than it should be. Tests are hard, basically just draws graphs the whole lectures, abbreviates everything. Makes goofy little side comments, avoid this teacher for economics, overall nice professor, hes just makes the subject more difficult.
Miller is a great prof, with a ton of knowledge. If you aren't a good test taker, I'd recommend to not take this class. The class is out of 90 possible points, there are four tests total, each test is 30 points and he drops one of your four exams (lowest score) With that being said, if you have 1 or 2 bad tests, you will not receive a good grade.
Easy class but you have to go to every class to pass since he doesnt post notes online. 4 tests and the lowest score is dropped
You are only graded by 3 exams out of 4 and he gives 5 extra credit points at the end but I really recommend attended the lectures or you'll get very behind. Great professor!
Professor Miller had some entertaining lectures. He loves to crack bad jokes. I though that the content was fairly easy, but the tests were hard. There was no homework. Your entire grade is based of the tests and a little extra credit assignment at the end of the semester. He also does not grade anything. Even the tests were graded by the computer.
Dr. Miller is one of the best professors I've had. He is clearly passionate about teaching econ. No homework, just a few exams with the lowest score dropped, including the final. Also posts practice questions on D2L. Has great, entertaining lectures and great communication outside of class. Take econ with Dr. Miller if you can!
Took microeconomics online asynchronous. Professor Miller posted lectures covering the material; textbook was not needed. There were 4 exams, with lowest score dropped, including the final. There was also an extra credit quiz for 5 points, which is significant since the class is only out of 90 points. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Miller.
Funny, makes lectures and Econ interesting.
Graded only based on exams. There is no homework. Overall a pretty easy class but easy to fall behind. Prof. Miller has entertaining lectures and you can tell he cares about teaching.
The lectures are pretty interesting, however you would be alright if you never attended one. Your grade is determined by 3 midterms and a final, all weighted equally, the worst score is dropped. Lectures do not connect to exams, just crank out the provided practice problems and you're golden. Attend lectures to learn, not to get a good grade.
10/10 dad jokes. If you attend the lectures and take the same notes he does, you'd have to actively try to fail the tests in order to do so.
Dr. Miller is great. I would describe him as the typical cool dad who wants to be friends with everyone. Tests can be hard but it's all from material from in class, if you go to all the lectures you should be fine. The only grading was from four 30 multiple-choice questioned tests, with the lowest score of those dropped. an A is 80/90 points.
Took this online asynchronous only and lectures were somewhat correlated to tests, still had to use google to find most of the answers. Although it is a super easy class to do as there is no work. Would recommend online if you have to take this class.
professor Miller is fun. test will all be online, even thogh he says they'll all be in person they will be online. he cares for every students well being and grade. Like i said, very fun. you dont need to show up to all the lectures, you can pass just by looking up the answers on the tests, if you actually want to learn something show up and listen
Miller is super informative and charismatic, he's such a good professor. There is no homework so tests count for your whole grade. Theres 3 tests and a final, each worth 30 points and he drops the lowest test. the class is hard if you don't show up and listen to his lecture but he has review questions and answers. he's an amazing prof
Grade based on 3 tests + a final, entirely based on lecture material. All tests are open-book, non-cumulative, and online. Final is identical but cumulative. Reading is not mandatory but recommended. Jokes during lecture, gives real world examples, and has clear tone and handwriting. Uploads practice questions on each chapter which is very helpful.
Definitely cares about his students doing well. No hw, graded on 3 exams and a cumulative final (in-person, not open book, uses scantrons). Your lowest exam score is dropped. I struggled on the first exam but focused more of my studying on the practice questions he posts for each chapter and did significantly better and the rest of the exams.
Tests are all multiple choice and you're graded off of 3 tests (there's 4 he drops lowest). You need to do practice problems to do good on his exams. His lectures are interesting and yet he didn't seem to like questions very much. Overall, a good teacher!
good professor, its amazing how much those practice questions helps with exams. No homework, no textbook, no attendance. Take notes in class and actually learn the material and you'll do just fine. One last thing to add: Under no circumstances take pictures with your phone of anything in his class or he will report you/fail you.
This class is out of 150 points and is graded on a curve with 15 extra credit points. The lectures can be miserable as they are on a notepad and aren't always the easiest to read. Professor Miller is very passionate and makes some cheesy jokes. Overall easy to get a good grade. One test is dropped as well.
Phillip only has 5 things in the grade book, 4 exams and one extra credit quiz at the end of the semester. If you do bad on an exam you are pretty much guaranteed not to get an A. Also the material he goes over in class is slow and boring, and barely relates to the information thats on the exams. Don't take this class if you don't have to.
Professor needs a better setup for his online classes. Each of his videos used a notepad and there are so many tools at his disposal to use powerpoint or other lecture methods. Very boring to listen to so many videos and felt like they didn't pertain to material on the tests. Only had 3 midterm exams with some homework thrown in here and there.
He is a fun and understanding professor. Go to his office hours and he will help you understand if you are struggling. I didn't buy the textbook and he never required a reading in it. There are only 90 total points in the class & 1 extra credit quiz. Very difficult to pass if you do bad on two exams. Lowest exam score is dropped. Overall, loved him
Econ was definitely the worst class I have EVER taken, makes zero sense and useless in the real world. BUT if you have to take it, Miller is good. Graded by few things (90 in 3 exams - has 4 but drops 1 & if you like your grade going into final you don't have to take it), 60 points in homework, 1 extra credit quiz for 15 pts max. Glad its over!
Professor Miller's ECON202 class is a manageable one. Exams are the main focus, with no homework but practice questions that can really help. Attendance is mandatory, but the lectures are engaging with real-world examples. Unstuck ai was a handy study tool alongside the practice questions.
Pretty good professor. Three tests, one extra credit test, that's it. Please go to lectures, don't make my mistake. Practice problems really help!
Professor Miller is a very decent choice! If you have to take an Econ Class, definitely take it with him. He's a very humorous and jovial guy that just wants students overall to succeed. He does host office hours regularly and is fairly open and approachable. Easy communication, and very understanding to reiterate concepts you didn't understand.
Very chill. Yaps a lot but you can pass the class if you study and do practice questions
