I felt like the teacher was a harsh grader and he was not really clear with assignments or requirements for the class. He was very hard to get a hold of and took a long time to grade assignments.
Professor Nelson not only looks out for his students and is more than willing to work with you but he actually enjoys what he does. Homework is expected, test are not hard, in class reviews, extra credit, he is organized, responds quickly to students, would take any class he offers. You will have a hard time finding a better professor at SLCC.
I really enjoyed taking a Professor Nelson's class. He is extremely knowledgable and experienced in the field that he teaches and you can learn a lot if you're willing to ask questions. There is homework, but it's not too difficult and will prepare you for the exams. He was very responsive to the concerns of his students and I highly recommend him.
Unlike many of my past classes, Professor Nelsen has real world experience in the subject he teaches. He is an attorney who started and grew a million dollar business from nothing. He shares very helpful insights during the lectures and makes class enjoyable. I will be taking more of his classes.
Phil is awesome! I took his business law class and would definately recommend it to anyone who wants too study business or law. He is a great guy and he wants to help you succeed.
There is biweekly unit homework and test. If you do the homework the test are pretty easy. Most of it can be found if you google it for both homework and test. There was two projects. They weren't too bad either. Overall its a pretty easy course if you stay on top it and do the homework.
This class may not be the easiest class you will ever take but it is worth it. I feel like I was able to learn a ton during this class and really get to know a little more about both business and law. You definitely need the textbook but will do just fine on the assignments if you use it. Quizzes are hard but doable.
Professor Nelsen is a great teacher. He is easy to talk to as well as easy to listen to. He really wants you to be successful. He is very successful in his personal life and that carries over to his classroom. He has a lot of useful knowledge. He made returning to school after so many years not as scary as i thought it was going to be.
An online course, easiest class i've taken. Just a bunch of online busy work and tests and a book report.
Pretty easy class, lots of work however. He was definitely a fair grader even though i missed 3 quizzes. Easy B.
Due dates were not clear on assignments. The schedule we had all semester was for a class he was teaching on a different day.
I took this class online and professor Nelsen commented on every assignment with detailed constructive feedback. The fact that he cares really shines through. I learned a lot in this class.
Professor Nelson is a great professor! textbook is not needed but the MyBizLab online code definitely is. Okay, Okay, I know its not ethical but all of the quizzes and tests are take home and you can google the questions and the answers will pop up either on biology forums or science forums. sorry y'all, gotta do what ya gotta do.
Professor Nelsen is a fantastic teacher. I was worried about taking the class online, but he was great. All the material is online. He has weekly assignments and cases you go through. Not hard if you do the reading. Great feedback. Awesome Teacher! Wish I could take all my classes from him.
Professor Nelsen is a great teacher. He is there to help his students succeed and that is exactly what he does! He truly knows the law inside and out and gives clear answers to questions asked. If you do your work and stay on top of your assignments you will pass.
He makes class very interesting. He reminds you of every quiz and exam before they're due and he does Kahoots. I would definitely recommend Phillip.
I took MGMT 2040 (Buisness Law) from Professor Nelsen, It was also a half semester class, so everything was done a little faster. I was worried that this would be a problem, but, Professor Nelson's class was so smooth and had everything correctly posted and all in order. I was worried, but this ended up being my smoothest class 100% due to Nelsen.
Professor Nelson was a great professor. I enjoyed this class so much and enjoyed learning about business. He grades fairly and is extremely reasonable. I'm so glad I had him for my professor. Highly recommended
I actually really enjoyed this class. Professor Nelson was great, clear direction. Only thing I would suggest was optional assignments be removed or used for extra credit if listed.
Phillip was great! His class online class is very organized and due dates are clearly set. He is willing to work with you and you can tell he wants his students to succeed in his class.
Super kind, and easy to communicate with and very understanding!
This was my first ever online class. Everything about this class is very organized. Even though it was an online class, I felt that it was very engaging. He really cares about his students!
His way of teaching is great. He teaches you what you need to know while being funny and chill at the same time. I have had him for two different classes and enjoyed each one. He has an amazing life story and has experience in what he is teaching which to me makes him more credible.
Class had reasonable time deadlines, feedback was prompt and helpful. Information was useful. Email questions responded to quickly. Nice professor. I am hoping to take additional classes from him. Don't hesitate to take his online class.
Prof Nelson is great. He has a lot of business & law experience and always makes sure he uses real world experiences to explain what we are studying. Ill be taking more classes from him for sure.
He does a good job both upfront & throughout the semester clarifying expectations & what it'll take to pass the class. He's VERY knowledgeable on every one of the course topics (and most others you throw at him). And, to be honest, he's easy on the eyes.
He is a reasonable professor
Professor Nelsen is a great instructor in Business. Unlike the old saying, he can both DO and TEACH. He is a business lawyer outside of SLCC and is highly knowledgeable on Business. Taught me a lot, and I'll be taking some more of his courses in the future. Would recommend him.
Professor Nelson worked with me when I had a medical emergency during his semester class. He not only gave me the opportunity to make up or re-do the work I missed, or didnt do as well on, but allowed me to take my time finishing the upcoming assignments as well. To have a teacher that looked at me as a person and the whole situation means a lot.
One of my favorite classes I have taken at SLCC. Awesome teacher. Takes time to build relationships with students and goes over the real life application of his classes. Very knowledgable and cares about his students success. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn anything about business or entrepreneurship.
WOW! I learned so much from him! He is one of the best professors I have ever had! I wish I could take more of his classes, as I learned so much from him! The class has a lot of reading, I would have learned even more and gotten a better grade if I had read as much as I was supposed to. He gives great lectures and note taking is really easy.
Took Prof. Nelsen's 1010 course. Still an excellent teacher. All the material is in canvas, no book. Great teacher of law. He also is a lawyer so he knows his stuff. Hope he teaches more. TAKE HIS CLASSES! You'll be glad you did.
Professor Nelsen was as close as my cell phone or computer if I needed help. He was quick to give me feedback if I had questions about the quizzes or End of Unit Exams. I liked the fact he was open-minded to accept other points of thinking or perspectives. I learned a lot from this course I did not get in all the other courses leading up to this.
The teacher gave a clear outline on what he wanted for each assignment you could work at your own pace and he responded very quickly if there were any questions. You didn't have to buy a text book, there are just readings that the teacher supplied. Quizzes we're open book and could be taken more than once! Very good class it was easy/interesting
Great professor, kind of an easy class, BUT HE NEVER ANSWERS BACK! Easy class, no many people show up after a month and I am sure they passed. Very relax and knowledgable professor! Again, if you have a doubt do not email him, just talk to him after class!
Professor Nelson was a great professor. Definitely lecture heavy so be prepared for that. Otherwise, an easy A. He was great! The tests were easy, the only homework was the mybizzlab, online homework that Persons put out. One paper and the final. Great teacher. He is very caring and is will to learn to form his students.
Professor Nelsen was great. I took this class online and the class was put together well. The material was easy to understand and it was easy to complete the assignments so long as you read the material. The grading criteria was very simple and if you do the work, you'll pass the class.
This online class had a TON of homework. Quizzes and Exams have many "better/best" and random questions about things that only appear once in very LONG chapters, videos, etc. Quizzes and exams are timed and do not allow you to go back and look over or redo questions once answered. My advice is, if you don't have to take Business 1010, don't!!
Professor Nelsen was great, at first I was kind of skeptical about the class 2050 because it's a Business Law class but his class is very fun, interesting, and most importantly the assignments are not hard. His course materials are very organized and straight-forward, there's no final test. Throughout the semester there's 3 tests of 15 modules.
Hands down the best professor I have had in the last 4-5 semesters. He is very fun to be in class with, has stories for EVERY topic that are interesting. He is very easy to get ahold of, very outgoing for the students, and an approachable guy. I would strongly recommend anyone considering a class that he teaches, to choose him as the professor!
Prof Nelsen is fantastic! Even though I took the class online I felt like he really went above and beyond to communicate with us and offer us extra study help (like the Kahoots he prepares). His entrepreneurship story is awesome too.
Professor Nelsen goes above and beyond to help his students. Every topic he teaches he uses real world information that makes it interesting. Everyone in our class loved him. The only thing I didnt love is that we had to buy the textbook but that isnt his fault. I would definitely take his classes again!
He is easily reachable, communicates well and is very encouraging to the students. There is quite a bit of homework, but its not bad as long as you keep up with the work. Everything is straightforward and he tells you what you need to do and reminds you. Overall a great online teacher
I really loved his teaching style. He was always available and willing to answer your questions.
very grateful for the feedbacks on the analysis.
Easy to work with and if you make a solid effort youll do fine in the class.
Very smart professor. His lectures are interesting, captivating and entertaining. There's a lot of work, and he definitely gives you the tools and resources needed to succeed. Would definitely recommend him to anybody!
Mr. Nelsen was a really good teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed his assignments even though they were some work. He gave good feedback and is always easy to get a hold of with any questions you may have. I learned a lot from his class even with it being an online course. Good teacher, would suggest taking his class.
Good class. Pretty simple to pass.
i would definitely take from him again he is very informational and helpful
This was one of thee most organized online courses I have ever taken. Very clear and well put together. Phil is a super awesome guy. I was honored to take a class from him. Really wonderful.
Great teacher to take lecture from and very knowledgeable!
Phil took the time to go through the textbook, get the information that was useful so we didn't have to pay for a textbook. The quizzes and the exams made sense. He really is an AWESOME teacher
Phillip is awesome! He wrote the entire text book so guess what, NO TEXT BOOK FEES! It was a great class! I took Business Law with him and it was a great class! If you have taken BUS 1050 then you will be ready for this class since it is a lot of reading, but this class is much easier and Phillip is AWESOME!
I took legal environment of business 2050 from this professor. It was the easiest class I have taken at SLCC. There was some work to do and keep up with the schedule was important, but it was very easy. I did take the class in 2016 and it may have changed since then, but it was an easy A then.
Nice teacher that gives good feedback. Class is well structured and the same every week so you know what is expected of you. Expect to spend about 2-3 hours per week.
I took two classes with Phil bus1010 and small business management and I absolutely loved it. I always value when subject is taught by someone who has knowledge based on own experience, that shows examples in real life, knows how to apply theory in practice. Every class was valuable, Ive learnt a lot and would recommend it to anyone
Weekly assignments consist of reading a chapter, 4-5 small assignments including a discussion. Every few chapters there are unit exams, also an overall final and a term paper. Even with all the work it was a great class, I learned a lot. Professor Nelsen is understanding, he wants students to learn. Best online class I have ever taken.
Phillip Nelson was a very good online instructor. His class is laid out very clearly and the modules make everything easy to find and understand. All of the modules consist of reading, quizzes, discussion board, and a module test. The class is very interesting and the grading is fair. Overall a very enjoyable online experience. You can work ahead!
Phil is a great prof. He dont really go easy on you. But if you need to take the easiest class then you should not go to college we come here to learn and hard classes help you learn. That being said he is willing to work with you and help you achieve a good grade in this class and it is clear that he cares about his students.
It was hard for me being online. I think next time I would want to take it in the classroom. The tests were really hard.
Phillip makes businesses interesting, although attendance was not mandatory I was glad when I went to class because it was interesting and went fast. His lectures also cleared up a lot of confusion that I had when reading the text. I would definitely recommend him as your professor if you get to choose. He is a very smart guy and I learned a lot
Since the class was a hybrid, I didn't get as much class time as I would have liked. But Professor Nelsen went through the chapters with us, and made us aware of what would be on the quizzes, tests. I would recommend taking a class taught by Professor Nelsen.
Great Teacher, well informed on this topic of business and is HIGHLY Recommended.
great teacher he dont remind you of quiz each week but really helpful and clear info given. buzlab code need for a but not book. i passed without doing buzlab
Super cool teacher! He sill work with you on everything and class is mostly a lot of fun. He teaches you new tricks and also helps put everything in terms of the real world. 10/10 would take again.
Seriously awesome professor! Gives a lot of real life experience and really cares about the students. Goes the extra mile to help you reach your potential in class. I would totally take another class from him. Just get your work done and participate and you'll do great.
Great class, easy to follow great professor
Phil was an amazing teacher. He really got me excited to come to class and that is not easy to do. Especially with a person like me where school, in my opinion, tends to be pretty boring. Highly recommend this professor. Best I've ever had. Super helpful, understanding and, if you participate in class, there's no way you won't succeed.
An amazing person is happy to help any student with a lot of opportunities to pass the class.
I was really impressed by his credentials and background in business and his class was extremely educational. I learned a lot.
Honestly, just read the material and you will pass. There was a big writing assignment but there is ample time to work on it. I did this class online, as long as you are disciplined, youll get an A
Professor Nelson was great, very quick grading, modules and information were set up perfectly. Just be ready to read.
I really loved Professor Phillip Nelson. The work is very predictable because it stays the same from week to week. You do need to pay attention to what you are learning and you'll do well on the quizzes and exams. Very clear grading and good with feedback. I normally don't like discussions but he had some fun, thought provoking ones that I enjoyed.
No textbook but sends lots of reading pages. read all or you fail everything. On case analysis, and everything else, you have to have everything he is looking for and would do himself, if not you lose points. Make a schedule and don't fall behind, it will be harder to catch up. You get out what you put into it.
This is one of the best classes I have had(out of 23). The instructor is clear with instructions, materials are great, easy to read and to remember. The quizzes are from the text, what is most important. There is home work you have to deal with, but it is a online class so it is reasonable amount. I would take this prof again for sure.
he gives a good lecture and willing to help you. there are three open book tests and no final. lots of reading and for every chapter, a discussion or in-class participation, short essay, and quizzes. this class was not difficult but you just have to put in some time and effort.
The best professor
The online class for MGT 2050 was very easy to navigate. The e-textbook comes with the class. The class is divided into chapter readings a vocab quiz after each one, an overall quiz on that section, a small group discussion, and a case analysis each week. No final only 3 exams. Great professor he is super quick to respond and gives good feedback.
Professor Nelsen is one of, if not the best, teachers I have ever had. He held great lectures and discussions that allowed everyone in class the be heard and understood. Not only did he hear us but he made sure we knew that he genuinely cared about what we were asking/saying even if it was off topic. Professor Nelsen is loved and respected.
I really enjoyed this course. It was for an elective in my major and Phillip Nielsen made it easy to understand and was straightforward. He was friendly and helpful. I have zero criticisms for him.
Easy class with a great teacher who is qualified through experience and not just book smarts. The class did seem overwhelming at first but the text book is all online and the tests are all open book. I spent maybe 2 hours a week on the tough weeks with homework. Really informative class and would take again.
Professor Nelson really sets you up for success it's just a lot of work. DON'T procrastinate the online lab and mastering. It really hurts your learning and there are lots of questions from both the lab mastering & the video lectures from the other professors. Make sure to watch those. Takes about 2-6 hours a week in order to get an A.
I took his class online. I enjoyed the class and learned a great deal. There were no lectures. There were prerecorded videos from various professors that were really helpful. They didn't cover as much as the textbook though, so if you're an auditory learner, might be harder. Quite a bit of homework, but not hard. Useful and not busywork.
I loved this class so much!
This class was super easy, theres several assignments to do weekly but are all do-able within a 1 hr or less. he lets you retake everything 2 times or more depending what it is. All the exams are open book and around 50 questions. Also, he takes feedback very well and cares about the students! 100% recommend!
Professor Nelsen is an awesome teacher to talk to and is super professional regardless of what the topic is.
Phil is great. He cares about the success of his students. He gets off topic sometimes, but it is all relevant. He makes good use of class time to cover content and usually get out of class early. He writes his own textbook and offers it free of cost. Open book exams. Highly recommend.
Strongly recommend taking a class from him. He has a lot of real-world experience and stories that make class really interesting and enjoyable. The homework isn't too bad and he does a few unit exams instead of a final which is nice. He also wrote a textbook for the class so you don't have to buy one. For sure one of the best professors I've had.
Genuine professor who cares about his students.
He offered plenty of extra credit which helped bring up my grade. Overall, great class!
He was great! 10/10 recommend
Phil is part of the reason I decided to take this course. He is very knowledgeable and will always give great feedback for both things discussed in class and things that are not relevant at all. His personal experience in the field makes him a perfect professor for this course. 10/10, would take again
I took small business management with Professor Nelsen, great class and he's very easy to get a hold of if you have any questions. Weekly discussions, exercises, and open book quizzes (with multiple attempts) all assignments are open from the beginning so you can skip ahead if you'd like!
Really great and engaging professor, you will learn a lot if you go to class. There are assignments you will have to complete every week that take upwards of 2-3 hours, however, they are pretty easy but mind numbingly boring and long.
Phil was a great professor. I actually took MGT 2020 from him but there wasn't and option for it. It was a hybrid class but i really liked going in person as he is very knowledgeable and great professor to ask questions and hear his experience with business.
Overall, he's a super great teacher if you're able to handle taking an online class on your own. I've emailed him a few times and it's hard to get in contact with him quickly. There's timed adaptive learning assignments, worth 25 points on an online book that take FOREVER, have a bunch of concepts and questions that never seem to end.
The syllabus made a point that he was part of creating the McGraw Hill online book/program, which is basically all that is used. Be ready to read, a lot. Mind-numbing 'adaptative learning' modules that take hours, asking the same questions 10 different ways. I emailed him with questions and never received a response.
The class is very easy other than the amount of work that has to be done. Expect to be doing at least 1-3 hours of assignments every week that are just boring. I loved the discussions we had in class though those were entertaining. Professor Philip Nelson himself is very nice, understanding, and realistic.
The workload for this class is substantial, but the topic itself is fun and satisfying to learn. I've sent about 4 emails to the professor over the semester and haven't received any response to this day. He will send announcements about receiving emails on different questions meaning he clearly sees them but doesn't respond, which is frustrating.
Take his class! I'm taking another class from him because I enjoy his lectures. His assignments are time-consuming and can take a few hours (mostly reading) but I've learned a lot. There are exams and a final, but they're doable if you study. I took his hybrid class and enjoyed attending, though it wasn't mandatory. Overall his class isn't too hard
He's a good guy. Lectures are ok. But the McGraw Hill classwork are really, really bad. Nothing is really hard, the regular assignments take awhile but have good information. The exams seem like they were written by drunk AI.
Keep up with the material and do your work and your grade will be great.
Professor Nelsen has a lot of experience in the field and brought an air of calm regarding subjects. Great class.
He does grade ANYTHING! He takes up to a month and a half to grade 3 assignments. I'm pretty sure he doesn't even read them he just puts in a 20 of it was on time and a 19 if it was late, yes the class is very easy but with zero communication it's really easy to lose motivation to want to do the work especially with up to 16 assignments a week.
He is cool. I just took his business law class online, everything is set up super well to pass. And it was all interesting to learn! Lots of homework due each week, most of it is graded by canvas. The discussions and papers each week however he has to grade and he takes a while to get them graded, lots of people in his class. Good feedback though!
I really enjoyed my time in this class and really enjoyed Phil's talking, he has a lot of anecdotes and stories from his experiences as a business owner and his time working in the field. 25% of his lectures actually cover the lessons though so plan to self teach a lot. I will take a class taught by him the next opportunity I get. Lots of homework.
One of the best professors ever at SLCC! He is very knowledgeable and clear on the course outcomes. He also gives meaningful feedback. He does get strict on the case analysis, but know this is important for you. He is also approachable outside of class and offers resources regarding launching your own business and litigation questions.
